LAS VEGAS â€" Refusing the invitation was simply out of the question.

Manny Pacquiao was about to rest at his suite at the hotel Thursday night when the request came in.

Could he spare a few minutes to meet with former United States President Bill Clinton?

Pacquiao readily agreed.

In no time, a limousine fetched the Filipino superstar and some of his associates, including Environment Secretary Lito Atienza and Deputy National Security Adviser Chavit Singson, and brought them to the Chris Palmer Steak House at the Four Seasons Hotel.

And there, indeed, was Mr. Clinton, who was attending a global trade show in the gambling haven.

Mr. Clinton, a fight enthusiast, and Pacquiao exchanged pleasantries, talked about the environment and, of course, boxing.

As it turned out, Mr. Clinton is eagerly awaiting the Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton duel on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) for the Briton’s International Boxing Organization light welterweight crown.

After a photo session with Clinton, with armed bodyguards in tow, Pacquiao was whisked back to Mandalay Bay.

Pacquiao could hardly remember what they specifically talked about. He said Clinton wished him well.

SKY-MAP.ORG (or WIKISKY.ORG) is an interactive information-management system which encompasses the entire outer space. The basic element of the system is a detailed map of the whole star sky that mirrors more than half a billion celestial objects. No additional instructions are necessary to browse the map or change its scale. The process is very easy. By using the smallest scale, the user can view the whole star sky at once. Using the largest scale, the user can view tiny areas with the most distant and weakest sky objects.

Pound for pound, Manny Pacquiao is the best boxer in the world. But even more important than holding that distinction, Manny has connected with the people of his home country, the Philippines, to the point where he's almost like a god. The people have rallied behind him and feel like they're a part of him, because they can see his talent, his dedication, his grace and his class. The grip he holds over the Philippines is similar to Nelson Mandela's influence in South Africa. I can surely see Manny becoming the Philippine President one day.

In fact, he already ran for Congress in the Philippines but lost, in part because voters thought he could do more for the country as an inspirational champion boxer. I agree with the Filipino people. Manny, 30, already has a true global reach, and his influence will only expand as he gets better. Manny is from the Muhammad Ali school. He's a boxer, a puncher and a mover â€" a champion in four weight divisions. He doesn't stand there and take shots. He throws that wicked jab and is so quick to dodge trouble.

Boxing needs a guy like Manny. Too often, when something positive develops, the sport takes two steps backward; you never know where the black eye is going to come from. With Manny, you don't have to worry about that. He just loves the sport and knows he's carrying the hopes of his country in the ring.

Lewis, the former world heavyweight champion, is a boxing commentator for HBO Sports

Fast Fact: Pacquiao is the first athlete the Philippine Postal Corp. has honored with his own stamp.

ScienceDaily (Apr. 30, 2009) â€" Thanks to the 24-hour media coverage about swine flu, we’re all aware that a potential flu pandemic could be high. But before you stock up on face masks and hand sanitizer, it’s important to put some things in perspective.

William Sutker, M.D., chief of infectious diseases at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas says that first and foremost, we should remain calm.

“As of now, there is no need for people to panic. So far, there have been very few cases reported,” says Dr. Sutker. “At this point, it is unclear if the swine flu outbreak will develop in to a full blown pandemic.”

Although there are many myths and misconceptions floating around, Dr. Sutker says the facts about swine flu are these:

   1. Swine flu or H1N1, is a particular strain of Type A flu (Type A and Type B are the usual strains seen every year). Swine flu is typically associated with pigs and usually contracted by those who have close contact with the animals. However, this strain can be spread from person to person.

  2. Swine flu is treatable. “Although the type of flu we saw this season was not sensitive to
some of the common antivirals that were available, swine flu is,” says Dr. Sutker. He says it can be treated with Tamiflu and Relenza, available by prescription. However, Dr. Sutker adds that these medications should be used carefully as overuse could lead to drug-resistant strains of the virus.

   3. So far, 40 people in the United States have been diagnosed with swine flu. In comparison, anywhere from 5 to 20 percent of the population in the United States is diagnosed with human strains of the flu every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

  4. The symptoms of swine flu are mild. Although the symptoms for swine flu are similar to those of the regular flu, such as fever, chills, body aches and coughing, they are no worse than regular flu symptoms. “However, there seems to be an increase in nausea and vomiting amongst those infected with swine flu. Again, these symptoms can be associated with regular strains of the flu as well.”

   5. You can not get swine flu from pork products. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture scientists you can not catch swine flu from food products.

Dr. Sutker adds that the most powerful weapon in our defense against swine flu is basic flu prevention protocol. Just like any other strain of the flu, swine flu is spread by coughing, sneezing, etc. so in order to protect yourselfâ€"or to avoid spreading it if you are infectedâ€"practice good respiratory etiquette. Follow these tips:

   1. Wash your hands. “Hand hygiene can not be stressed enough,” advises Dr. Sutker. “Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer. As always, this is the single most important prevention technique that we have available.”

   2. Cover your cough or sneeze. “Flu, like any other contagious respiratory disease, is spread by contact with infected droplets such as those released during a cough or sneeze.” Cough or sneeze in to a tissue and throw it away. If you don’t have a tissue, use your shirt sleeve or hand, but make sure to wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.

   3. Avoid public places if you have been exposed. “Any crowded area is the last place you should be if you think you have been exposed,” says Dr. Sutker. “Do your friends, family and co-workers a favor and stay home. You will not only spare them becoming infected too, but you’ll need the rest in order to get better.”

  4. If you think you are infected, see your doctor. “We are advising people to avoid going to their local emergency room if they are feeling sick as they can easily become overwhelmed,” adds Dr. Sutker. “Instead, make an appointment to see your family physician so they can start treatment immediately.”

With only a few minutes' warning, a ten-story tsunami will shatter the usual peace of the Caribbean resort islands of Guadeloupe, a new study says (tsunami facts).

The tsunami is expected to be generated when a major landslide, on the island of Dominicaâ€"about 30 miles (50 kilometers away)â€"plunges up to a million tons of rock into the sea (Dominica and Guadeloupe map).
"It is not a case of if the landslide and tsunami will happen, but when," said Richard Teeuw, from the University of Portsmouth, U.K., who led the team of geologists that made the discovery.

"Most likely it will be triggered by a major earthquake," Teeuw added. "It could happen in a hundred years, or it could happen next week."

As many as 30,000 people could be at risk, the researchers say.

Seismologyâ€"Powered by Google Earth?

Using satellite images from the Google Earth software, Teeuw and his team surveyed Dominica, gaining a bird's-eye view of rock outcrops normally obscured by vegetation.

They noticed that the north coast of the island is unusually straight, indicating active earthquake faults.

Further investigations on the ground revealed large tension cracks along the flank of a volcano, Morne aux Diables (Devils' Peak)â€"convincing the team of the landslide threat (volcano facts).

Defenseless?

Speaking at a press conference Friday, Dominica's disaster-preparedness minister sought to quell panic over the findings.

"There is no scientific indication that such an event is imminent and therfore [sic] we should begin to take measures immediately," Charles Savarin said, according to Dominica News Online.

No matter when the landslide strikes, Guadeloupe, a French territory, would be largely at the mercy of any potential tsunami.

Currently there are no tsunami early-warning systems in the Caribbeanâ€"and very little to brunt the impact.

"Prevention is the most important thing for Guadaloupe," said study co-author Carmen Solana, also from the University of Portsmouth.

"Perhaps some artificial reefs, or even a small, half-metre [foot-and-a-half] promenade wall can reduce the energy of the tsunami waves."

The hot and humid days of summer could prove a death knell for the swine flu outbreak currently sweeping around the globeâ€"at least in the U.S., Mexico, and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, experts say.

"If [the new swine flu strain] is like other types of influenza that have been tested, it would have a lower transmission rate in the summer," said Jeffrey Shaman, an assistant professor at Oregon State University in Corvallis, who studies how the water cycle affects the spread of disease.

Earlier this year, Shaman found that flu viruses survive longer and transmit more easily during low absolute humidity, a condition commonly associated with cold, dry winter weather.

"When we get to June, humidity rates will have increased substantially and might make for less transmission," he said.

Furthermore, in pigsâ€"where the flu is common in the United Statesâ€"outbreaks normally occur in colder months, particularly in late fall and winter, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Swine Flu-Susceptible Population

Though Mexico is relatively hot and humid year-round, it does have seasonal differences, Shaman noted. The dry season in México City runs from mid-December to about now.

"If this newly emerged virus developed or came into existence in México City during early March, the lower-humidity conditions then could still favor an outbreak" of swine flu, he said.

In addition, everyone may be susceptible to this H1N1 swine flu strain, because it's new. Such virulence would make an outbreak possible no matter what the climate, Shaman noted. Higher absolute humidity might only slow the swine flu's spread.

Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association, added that the new swine flu virus may "peter out as it gets warmer," especially now that we're at the end of the traditional flu season.

Summer Slowdown

Though transmission of swine flu could decrease in the months ahead, it won't simply disappear, Oregon State's Shaman added. The question is whether the post-summer H1N1 swine flu virus will be worse, milder, or just barely noticeable?

"These things, unfortunately, really depend on the biology of the virus."

Jal Joshua Talks about Singing in the Philippines

PEP recently interviewed Australia’s Got Talent 2nd placer Jal Joshua Lebumfacil revealing a glimpse of his life from he was still in the Philippines. It’d be remembered that Jal openly said in the contest that he had just migrated to the US from the Philippines in about a year. Below is the text of the interview:

PEP: From where do the Lebumfacils hail?

Jal Joshua: My father Jesus Lebumfacil Jr. is from Toledo City, Cebu, Philippines. My mother Jocelyn Aldueso Lebumfacil is from Carcar, Cebu.

PEP: When did you and your family migrate to Australia?

Jal Joshua: We migrated last March 2008. My mother Jocelyn, who used to work with Atlas Fertilizer Corporation in Toledo City, applied for a Permanent Resident Visa under the Independent Skilled Migration for Accountants.

PEP: We noticed in the videos that you already have that Australian twang and accent, so we take it you easily blended in with the locals (Australians, Fil-Australians and other races there) after you arrived from the Philippines. It looks like you did not have a hard time adjusting there.

Jal Joshua: It was hard at first for me because I missed my schoolmates and friends at De la Salle-ASMC in Toledo City, and my cousins, too. Their [Australians'] accent is also different from ours, but I soon managed to adjust to it because I got lots of Australian friends in school.  Australians are very friendly, too.

PEP: There were older videos of you singing, uploaded on YouTube. It looks like you really started performing in front of other people at a very early age. How old were you when you started singing and what age were you when you started performing in front of other people?

Jal Joshua: I started singing maybe at the age of six but I started singing in school programs at De la Salle-ASMC at the age of nine. After which my mother convinced me to take voice lessons at A. Salonga School of Music located at SM Cebu City where I got the chance to join in two recitals and performed at some shows at SM.

PEP: What were the contests you joined and won?

Jal Joshua: Search for Singing Idol 2006-Toledo City, Cebu. Singing Pop Star 2007 (by DYRB)-Gaisano Metro, Cebu City.

PEP: What or who made you join Australia’s Got Talent?

Jal Joshua: I was the one who was interested to join Australia’s Got Talent and my parents just helped me to get the required application forms. I watched the previous episode of AGT and I liked it. I always loved to perform in front of the public.

PEP: Tell us what it’s like standing onstage and performing in Australia’s Got Talent?

Jal Joshua: At first I felt a bit nervous but once I was on stage, I managed to overcome my fear. I just had fun and performed the best that I could.

PEP: We saw how the judges and the studio audience loved your performances. How come you didn’t win? Were you disappointed?

Jal Joshua: It is based on the public’s vote, so, maybe, my total number of votes was lower than that of Mark Vincent, the winner. I am already happy and contented on being in the top 2 and I think being in the finals is just an incredible experience for me. All the finalists were really good talents and anyone of them deserved to win.

PEP: Did you think your being a Filipino contributed to your not winning the contest?

Jal Joshua: I don’t think so. I don’t believe there are many racists in this place. Being in the top 2, I’m sure Australia liked my performance, too. It’s just that only one should come out the winner.

PEP: Did you expect to be this popular when you joined the AGT?

Jal Joshua: No, it is hard to expect too much. Let’s just leave everything to God. Whatever He wills for me, let it be.

PEP: What is your reaction to those who have positive comments on your YouTube videos, especially your grand-finals performance?

Jal Joshua: It is just amazing and I am glad that many people love my rendition.
PEP: Do you know about Charice Pempengco, Charlie Green, Arnel Pineda and Moymoy Palaboy? They are Filipino YouTube sensations like you, too. What can you say about them?

Jal Joshua: Yes, I know and I like them. They are all great singers and how I wish that one day, I could be like them.

PEP: So what’s going to happen now after AGT?

Jal Joshua: Only God knows…

PEP: Do you have plans of returning to the Philippines to start a career?

Jal Joshua: I don’t have any plans to return to the Philippines, at the moment. I am still young and I want to focus on my education first. But who knows what the future offers for me?

PEP: What is your message to the Filipinos?

Jal Joshua: I would like to say thank you for all those who appreciated my talent. I know I still need a lot of training, but I will try my best to develop this God-given talent.  For those who have the potential in singing, don’t be afraid to show and share your talent.

Love Talk / Five Dating Habits -- Cute or Crazy
May 01, 2009, 02:41:43 AM
I bring this up because a couple weeks ago, he had the ladies participate in an impromptu game show that he called "Cute or Crazy."

Not surprisingly, one contestant's habit of letting her cats choose her boyfriends was dubbed "crazy," while another's Riverdance reenactment qualified as "cute."

Many of us have some behaviors that might be misinterpreted as kooky, when they're actually just quirky. Take, for example, how I get livid if anyone dares to crack one of my magazines open before I've had a chance to browse through it. That's perfectly understandable. Right?

To aid you in your quest for true love, I've compiled a list of behaviors and characteristics that can be cute, but sometimes graduate into the crazy.

1. Animal Attraction: Where pet ownership falls on the "special" spectrum is usually a question of quantity. One pet is fine. Even two is OK (though less so). Once you get into multiples, you start to scare people. The crazy cat lady cliché didn't come out of nowhere.

However, even if you only have one animal in your life, dressing Benji up like he's your mini-me is pushing it. Sure, if it's below zero, some breeds need a little extra wrapping, but no dog should ever don a tutu or a tiara.

Not only is it undignified for your pup (who now secretly hates you), it screams, "I am a lunatic" to the world at large. Encouraging your dog to lick you on the mouth and/or addressing it in baby talk are red flags to people who might have previously considered getting naked with you.

2. Toys In The Attic: Holding onto your cherished childhood teddy bear is one thing. A menagerie of stuffed animals crowding him out of your bed is just creepy.

3. Love Me!: Being open to new activities with the person you're dating is important, which is why sitting through the occasional basketball game, even though you prefer hockey, shows you're a good sport. However, turning up with your face painted in Knicks colors is trying way too hard.

4. The Nurturing Caregiver: When Niko brought Cathy back home to his somewhat sloppy bachelor pad after their pivotal third date, he was excited. She was cute, fun, and vivacious. He was definitely thinking girlfriend material when he left her a key the next morning as he headed off to work.

When he returned home that evening, his apartment had been scrubbed clean and all the furniture had been rearranged. In the fridge, there were carefully labeled Tupperware containers full of food for the next couple days. Gulp.

Stopping by with soup for your illin' honey is one thing. Morphing into his mommy is quite another.

5. Background Research: Anybody who says they've never Googled their date is either lying or, well, lying. It's natural to want to know where he went to college or what his favorite band is. When you get into the realm of tracking down his social security number and last five girlfriends, you've crossed over to the dark side. Come back towards the light!

Agree.

And I don't think only the Admins have the right to tell a member about their fault.

Some members are online most of the time than the admins.

So they are the ones who get annoyed, irritated and are updated about the bad or good netiquettes of some here.

Besides, some of you don't listen to the admins anyway.

So I guess it's tooooo insulting to be reprimanded by a fellow member. :D

And also, aside from the admins, there are moderators.

Lately I've been winning battles left and right
But even winners can get wounded in the fight
People say that I'm amazing
I'm strong beyond my years
But they don't see inside of me
I'm hiding all the tears

Chorus:
They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
'Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

Unafraid because His arrow is the best
But even soldiers need a quiet place to rest
People say that I'm amazing
I never face retreat, oh no
But they don't see the enemies
That lay me at His feet

Chorus:
They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while

special mention to Lorenzo.. do you know this song?

1995 World Youth Day them song..held here in the Philippines

For God so loved the world
He gave us Him only Son
Jesus Christ our Savior
His most precious one
He has sent us His message of love
And sends those who hear
To bring the message to everyone
In a voice loud and clear

Let us tell the world of His love
The greatest love the world has known
Search the world for those who have walked
Astray and lead them home

Fill the world's darkest corners
With His light from up above
Walk every step, Every mile, Every road
And tell the world, Tell the world of His love

(Tell the world of His love)
(Tell the world of His love)

Our Lord our savior our king
Emmanuelle prince of peace
Begotten of the Father's love
Born to set us free
Let heaven and earth sing His phrases
His righteousness proclaim
Let every heart rejoice in His love
And magnify His name

Let us tell the world of His love
The greatest love the world has known
Search the world for those who have walked
Astray and lead them home
Fill the world's darkest corners
With His light from up above
Walk every step, Every mile, Every road
And tell the world, Tell the world of His love

(Tell the world of His love)

Let us tell the world of His love
The greatest love the world has known
Search the world for those who have walked
Astray and lead them home
Fill the world's darkest corners
With His light from up above
Walk every step, Every mile, Every road
And tell the world, Tell the world of His love

(Tell the world of His love)
Tell the world of His love

Cancer Screening: Doing More Harm than Good?

They say the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test may do men more harm than good if they don't already have symptoms of prostate cancer. And they have similarly grim things to say about other widely used cancer screening tests

a growing group of scientific heretics -- published in highly respected medical journals, working at some of the most august institutions -- strongly believe that it's time to rethink our whole approach to cancer screening.

That's because screening tests pick up many small cancers that would never have caused any symptoms. "Screening for cancer means that tens of thousands of patients who never would have become sick are diagnosed with this disease," says H. Gilbert Welch, MD, codirector of the Outcomes Group at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont, and a leading expert in cancer screening. "Once they're diagnosed, almost everybody gets treated -- and we know that treatment can cause harm." Tamoxifen for breast cancer can trigger life-threatening clots in the lungs, for instance.

Surgery for prostate cancer leaves 60 percent of men unable to have an erection. For that matter, some of the screening tests themselves carry risks: Up to 5 out of every 1,000 people who get a colonoscopy have a serious complication, such as a colon perforation or major bleeding.

The Damage Screening Can Do

unnecessary therapies for cancer are a tremendous drain on our health care budget, already strained to the breaking point

patients  suffered serious side effects, even death, from treatment that they might not have needed says William C. Black, MD, a professor of radiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

No one intentionally prescribes unnecessary treatment, of course. But it's often difficult to know if a patient really needs to be treated, so the tendency is to be aggressive, just in case

George Brown. At 75, Brown was still a practicing lawyer in Denver last year when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. His doctor prescribed Lupron to block production of testosterone (which many prostate tumors need in order to grow). "I didn't realize that Lupron was chemical castration," says Brown. "I was extremely depressed. I was having hot and cold flashes. I cried at everything." Radiation therapy damaged his rectum and left him with little control of his bladder or bowels. He is now facing another round of a different testosterone-blocking drug.

Does Screening Save Lives?

only one cancer screening test, the venerable Pap smear, has truly slashed the risk of death. Between 1955 and 1992, according to the American Cancer Society, Pap smears cut the death rate for cervical cancer by 74 percent, and deaths have continued to decline each year.

Mammograms also offer a smaller benefit than many patients -- and doctors -- assume. Mammography's effectiveness has been hotly debated, but a carefully conducted 2005 analysis suggests it cuts the risk of dying of breast cancer by 15 percent, says the NIH's Kramer. That means a 60-year-old who gets regular mammograms shaves her risk of dying of the disease in the next decade from 7 per 1,000 to 6 per 1,000.

As for colonoscopy: It allows the doctor to remove polyps, growths that can turn into cancer. The best estimates suggest that colonoscopy can cut the risk of death from colon cancer by as much as 60 percent.

Eventually, researchers and doctors hope, better screening tests will be able to distinguish between cancers that need to be treated and those that don't. But until then, many experts believe, the decision to get screened should rest on an individual's values and his or her ability to handle uncertainty. "We have come to fear dying from disease more than dying at the hands of overzealous doctors," says Dartmouth's Dr. Black. The fact is, both are risks when we get screened for cancer.

Health and Food / Re: All About the Swine Flu Virus
April 30, 2009, 01:59:37 AM

from time.com as to why the virus is deadlier at Mexico..

"The Mexican deaths may also be attributable to some underlying coinfection or health problem that is simply not present in the U.S. cases â€" but that will require more investigation to uncover.

It's also possible that A/H1N1 began life in Mexico especially virulent â€" that country has apparently been grappling with the virus for weeks longer than the U.S. has â€" and evolved to become less dangerous by the time it crossed the border. That would not be an unusual evolutionary device, since viruses that are too deadly cannot survive if they kill off their host before being given a chance to spread. "It's fairly common in epidemics to see a trade-off between the ability to cause severe death and transmissibility," says Steven Kleiboeker, a virologist and the chief scientific officer for ViraCor Laboratories. The A/H1N1 virus may be attenuating itself as it spreads from person to person, becoming easier to catch but less dangerous.

The WHO, however, says that so far the virus appears to have stayed relatively stable during the chains of transmission, so it may not be mutating much. Still, the virus's current relatively weak state does not guarantee that it won't return later, much more virulent â€" which is exactly what happened in the 1918 flu pandemic that killed at least 50 million people worldwide. As the flu season comes to an end in the northern hemisphere, it may lead to a natural petering out of new swine-flu cases in the U.S. But the strain may continue to circulate aggressively in the southern hemisphere, which is just now entering its flu season, and then return to the north next winter.

Any conclusions now will be premature, because we still don't know what we're looking at. Experts predict we'll eventually begin to see fewer new cases in Mexico, as lab results separate real swine-flu infections from normal respiratory disease. Meanwhile, the anticipation of more cases and deaths in the U.S. has already been begun to be borne out. As the CDC's Besser himself has pointed out, swine flu is going to be a marathon, not a sprint â€" and we've only just gotten started."

Technology / Rocks at $138.00
April 29, 2009, 11:33:11 PM
Jodi Wykle knew her son would be thrilled when she gave him a new Nintendo DS for his birthday.

Instead, he was rocked.

According to WTSP-TV, the confused teen opened up his gift only to find bunch of stones and a rolled up Chinese newspaper in place of the popular handheld.

All I got was a rock.

Needless to say, mom was equally stunned.

"When he opened it, he was pulling the seal off, my sister-in-law carries a pocket knife and she opened it and that's when he pulled it out and it was Chinese newspaper and a bunch of rocks," she explained.

The troubling discovery prompted the Florida woman to contact the local Wal-Mart where she bought the curious box and complain, but reportedly workers there told her it wasn't their problem and that she should contact Nintendo instead. Of course, Nintendo told her roughly the same thing, leaving mother and son with a $138 box of rocks.

"They don't want to do nothing. They want me to keep the box of rocks. I'm not buying a box of rocks for $138," she said.

Amazingly enough, however, Wal-Mart soon caved after learning that the same box of rocks had been previously returned by another disgruntled customer. How exactly it made it back onto store shelves remains a mystery, but for her troubles, Wykle was given a full refund and a $20 gift card.

It's not the first time Wal-Mart has gotten into hot water for selling a questionable handheld. Earlier this month, a PSP system bought at a different Wal-Mart store in Florida was found to contain a memory stick filled with pornographic images.

ZURICH (Reuters) â€" A Swiss insurance worker lost her job after surfing popular social network site Facebook while off sick, her employer said Friday.

The woman said she could not work in front of a computer as she needed to lie in the dark but was then seen to be active on Facebook, which insurer Nationale Suisse said in a statement had destroyed its trust in the employee.

"This abuse of trust, rather than the activity on Facebook, led to the ending of the work contract," it said.

The unnamed woman told the 20 Minuten daily she had been surfing Facebook in bed on her iPhone and accused her employer of spying on her and other employees by sending a mysterious friend request which allows access to personal online activity.

Nationale Suisse rejected the accusation of spying and said the employee's Facebook activity had been stumbled across by a colleague in November, before use of the social network site was blocked in the company.

WASHINGTON â€" A never-before-seen strain of swine flu has turned killer in Mexico and is causing milder illness in the United States and elsewhere. While authorities say it's not time to panic, they are taking steps to stem the spread and also urging people to pay close attention to the latest health warnings and take their own precautions.

"Individuals have a key role to play," Dr. Richard Besser, acting chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Monday.

Here's what you need to know:

Q: How do I protect myself and my family?

A: For now, take commonsense precautions. Cover your coughs and sneezes, with a tissue that you throw away or by sneezing into your elbow rather than your hand. Wash hands frequently; if soap and water aren't available, hand gels can substitute. Stay home if you're sick and keep children home from school if they are.

Q: How easy is it to catch this virus?

A: Scientists don't yet know if it takes fairly close or prolonged contact with someone who's sick, or if it's more easily spread. But in general, flu viruses spread through uncovered coughs and sneezes or â€" and this is important â€" by touching your mouth or nose with unwashed hands. Flu viruses can live on surfaces for several hours, like a doorknob just touched by someone who sneezed into his hand.

Q: In Mexico, officials are handing out face masks. Do I need one?

A: The CDC says there's not good evidence that masks really help outside of health care settings. It's safer just to avoid close contact with someone who's sick and avoid crowded gatherings in places where swine flu is known to be spreading. But if you can't do that, CDC guidelines say it's OK to consider a mask â€" just don't let it substitute for good precautions.

Q: Is swine flu treatable?

A: Yes, with the flu drugs Tamiflu or Relenza, but not with two older flu medications.

Q: Is there enough?

A: Yes. The federal government has stockpiled enough of the drugs to treat 50 million people, and many states have additional stocks. As a precaution, the CDC has shipped a quarter of that supply to the states to keep on hand just in case the virus starts spreading more than it has so far.

Q: Should I take Tamiflu as a precaution if I'm not sick yet?

A: No. "What are you going to do with it, use it when you get a sniffle?" asks Dr. Marc Siegel of New York University Langone Medical Center and author of "Bird Flu: Everything you Need To Know About The Next Pandemic." Overusing antiviral drugs can help germs become resistant to them.

Q: How big is my risk?

A: For most people, very low. Outside of Mexico, so far clusters of illnesses seem related to Mexican travel. New York City's cluster, for instance, consists of students and family members at one school where some students came back ill from spring break in Mexico.

Q: Why are people dying in Mexico and not here?

A: That's a mystery. First, understand that no one really knows just how many people in Mexico are dying of this flu strain, or how many have it. Only a fraction of the suspected deaths have been tested and confirmed as swine flu, and some initially suspected cases were caused by something else.

Q: Should I cancel my planned trip to Mexico?

A: The U.S. did issue a travel advisory Monday discouraging nonessential travel there.

Q: What else is the U.S., or anyone else, doing to try to stop this virus?

A: The U.S. is beginning limited screening of travelers from Mexico, so that the obviously sick can be sent for treatment. Other governments have issued their own travel warnings and restrictions. Mexico is taking the biggest steps, closings that limit most crowded gatherings. In the U.S., communities with clusters of illness also may limit contact â€" New York closed the affected school for a few days, for example â€" so stay tuned to hear if your area eventually is affected.

Q: What are the symptoms?

A: They're similar to regular human flu â€" a fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people also have diarrhea and vomiting.

Q: How do I know if I should see a doctor? Maybe my symptoms are from something else â€" like pollen?

A: Health authorities say if you live in places where swine flu cases have been confirmed, or you recently traveled to Mexico, and you have flulike symptoms, ask your doctor if you need treatment or to be tested. Allergies won't cause a fever. And run-of-the-mill stomach bugs won't be accompanied by respiratory symptoms, notes Dr. Wayne Reynolds of Newport News, Va., spokesman for the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Q: Is there a vaccine to prevent this new infection?

A: No. And CDC's initial testing suggests that last winter's flu shot didn't offer any cross-protection.

Q: How long would it take to produce a vaccine?

A: A few months. The CDC has created what's called "seed stock" of the new virus that manufacturers would need to start production. But the government hasn't yet decided if the outbreak is bad enough to order that.

Q: What is swine flu?

A: Pigs spread their own strains of influenza and every so often people catch one, usually after contact with the animals. This new strain is a mix of pig viruses with some human and bird viruses. Unlike more typical swine flu, it is spreading person-to-person. A 1976 outbreak of another unusual swine flu at Fort Dix, N.J., prompted a problematic mass vaccination campaign, but that time the flu fizzled out.

Q: So is it safe to eat pork?

A: Yes. Swine influenza viruses don't spread through food.

Q: And whatever happened to bird flu? Wasn't that supposed to be the next pandemic?

A: Specialists have long warned that the issue is a never-before-seen strain that people have little if any natural immunity to, regardless of whether it seems to originate from a bird or a pig. Bird flu hasn't gone away; scientists are tracking it, too.

The thought of you crossed my mind
I don't want to tell but you've always been an outlet
So here, I decided to share it online
Reaching out,  this is the nearest that I can get

This might be another of my good for nothing plan
But this time I am determined to be on my own
I want to show everybody that I can
And especially, for you to know that now I have grown

I am scared of what I'm about to do
My mind's all set for greener pastures next year.
I have all the back up that I need so I can go
So despite this fear, I will not stay here

God-willing, the crisis will stop
Yet I’m sure it wouldn't be abrupt
I am feeling its' effect already
That's another reason for all the hurry

I wish I could go back to being carefree
Wherein our playtime was my only worry
But I need to put my life on track
And have the broken part get intact.

Worry not of how I'll be
I will make you proud of me you'll see
You will be a priority when things get lovely
Panaceas after all are treasured securely.
