Beauty is not a luxury. Beauty is essential; it is food to our souls. Without beauty we become spiritually malnourished. As with food, we can get by on empty calories for a while, but eventually it will catch up to us and we will find ourselves becoming weak and unable to stay focused or be as healthy and productive as we want to be. So it is with beauty. We can work or live in a harsh, cluttered environment for only so long before our souls become weary and our passion wanes.

Nourish your soul daily. Take a walk through the park, spend time in the garden, sit on the beach, read the beautiful language of Gods word, or watch the majesty of a sunrise or sunset. When you do, you will plug into the power of the God who created this majestic world.

Fish that could walk!

Classified as Critically Endangered (CR) on the IUCN Red List 2007

Description
The spotted handfish is one of the world's most endangered marine fish. This extremely distinctive fish is almost pear-shaped and unusually, has hand-like 'paired fins' that enable it to 'walk' along the seafloor ; both the pectoral and ventral fins are used in this locomotion (4). When swimming through the water, the unpaired or 'median' fins (such as the tail and anal fin) are used (4). These fish are cream in colour with a myriad of dusky brown, and occasionally yellow-brown spots (4), the pattern of which is unique to each individual (3). Some individuals also have orange markings on their fins. Handfish have a small lure just above their mouth, the function of which is unknown but does not appear to be used to entice prey .

Seven Founders of the Order of Servites

(13th century)

Can you imagine seven prominent men of Boston or Denver banding together, leaving their homes and professions, and going into solitude for a life directly given to God? That is what happened in the cultured and prosperous city of Florence in the middle of the thirteenth century. The city was torn with political strife as well as the heresy of the Cathari. Morals were low and religion seemed meaningless.
In 1240 seven noblemen of Florence mutually decided to withdraw from the city to a solitary place for prayer and direct service of God. Their initial difficulty was providing for their dependents, since two were still married and two were widowers.

Their aim was to lead a life of penance and prayer, but they soon found themselves disturbed by constant visitors from Florence. They next withdrew to the deserted slopes of Monte Senario.

In 1244, under the direction of St. Peter of Verona, O.P., this small group adopted a religious habit similar to the Dominican habit, choosing to live under the Rule of St. Augustine and adopting the name of the Servants of Mary. The new Order took a form more like that of the mendicant friars than that of the older monastic Orders.

Members of the community came to the United States from Austria in 1852 and settled in New York and later in Philadelphia. The two American provinces developed from the foundation made by Father Austin Morini in 1870 in Wisconsin.

Community members combined monastic life and active ministry. In the monastery, they led a life of prayer, work and silence while in the active apostolate they engaged in parochial work, teaching, preaching and other ministerial activities.

Abbot and disciple of St. Columba. Fintan was a hermit in Clonenagh, Leix, Ireland. When disciples gathered around his hermitage he became their abbot. A wonder worker, Fintan was known for clairvoyance, prophecies, and miracles. He also performed very austere penances.

February 17, 2009, 12:35:57 AM
 It was something like this;
Stop what you´re doing,  try to  focus on your breathing.
Breathe deeply (nostrils)
Exhale slowly( mouth)
Feel your body relaxing.
Repeat 3-5 times, and try to think what the anger is all about. Express saying I feel ...,   refraining from using the word YOU. This is a real challenge but as you mature you are less prone to anger.

I was taught in my psychology class to get in touch with your feelings. Negative feelings like anger is a special issue since it is affiliated with force, hate and strong words. We were trained some breathing techniques to master the feeling & rationalize before letting the steam go. Harsh words once spoken is almost impossible to take back. The hurt is done and it is difficult to say I did not mean to say it.

Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love

St. John Vianney, Priest (Patron of priests) Feast day - August 4 Universally known as the "Cure of Ars)," St. John Mary Vianney was ordained a priest in 1815. Three years later he was made parish priest of Ars, a remote French hamlet, where his reputation as a confessor and director of souls made him known throughout the Christian world. His life was one of extreme mortification.

Accustomed to the most severe austerities, beleaguered by swarms of penitents, and besieged by the devil, this great mystic manifested a imperturbable patience. He was a wonderworker loved by the crowds, but he retained a childlike simplicity, and he remains to this day the living image of the priest after the heart of Christ.

He heard confessions of people from all over the world for the sixteen hours each day. His life was filled with works of charity and love. It is recorded that even the staunchest of sinners were converted at his mere word. He died August 4, 1859, and was canonized May 31, 1925.

Perpetua and Felicity were martyred in Carthage by Emperor Septimus Severus in 202 or 203. They were in a large group of Christians who had been rounded up and imprisoned. Perpetua received a dream where she saw a ladder stretching from earth to Heaven covered with sharp implements of torture and a serpent at the bottom. She saw Satyrus, one of their number, run up to the top of the ladder without injury. He encouraged her to ascend, “but mind the serpent.” She used the serpent’s head as if it were the first rung and ascended to Glory. With this vision, she encouraged the others to follow faithfully in martyrdom. St. Satyrus was martyred first, then Perpetua. Then the rest all followed. This was done in the arena as entertainment for the pagans. St. Perpetua was a 22 year-old noblewoman, married, with a newborn son. St. Felicity was a slave and was pregnant. They waited for her to give birth before they martyred her, but they made her watch her seven sons be martyred by various means before her eyes. St. Felicity gave birth to a girl, who was spirited off to be raised by Christians. Then she was thrown to the lions and stabbed with spears. It is said that St. Felicity was martyred 8 times, once with the death of each of her sons, then her own.

St. Felicity - pray for us!

St Juliana

According to the account given in this legend, St. Juliana lived in Nicomedia and was betrothed to the Senator Eleusius. Her father Africanus was a pagan and hostile to the Christians. In the persecution of Maximianus, Juliana was beheaded after suffering frightful torturers. Soon after a noble lady, named Sephonia, came through Nicomedia and took the saint's body with her to Italy, and had it buried in Campania. Evidently it was this alleged translation that caused the martyred Juliana, honoured in Nicomedia, to be identified with St. Juliana of Cumae, although they are quite distinct persons. The veneration of St. Juliana of Cumae became very widespread, especially in the Netherlands. At the beginning of the thirteenth century her remains were transferred to Naples. The description of this translation by a contemporary writer is still extant. The feast of the saint is celebrated in the Latin Church on 16 February, in the Greek on 21 December. Her Acts describe the conflicts which she is said to have with the devil; she is represented in pictures with a winged devil whom she leads by a chain.

Traffic pollution causes genetic changes in the womb which increase a child's risk of developing asthma, research suggests.

A study of umbilical cord blood from 56 children found "reprogramming" of a gene associated with exposure to compounds in traffic fumes.

The gene was associated with asthma symptoms at age five, the researchers reported in the PLoS ONE journal.

It is the first time pollution has been shown to influence genes, experts said.

We know that children living in polluted areas have a higher incidence of asthma but what we didn't know was it was affecting a gene
Dr Keith Prowse, British Lung Foundation

They also recorded the mothers' exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) - a by-product of combustion present in high levels in heavy-traffic areas - during their pregnancy with backpack air monitors.

The researchers found a significant association between chemical changes which control activation of the gene and high levels of maternal PAH exposure.

It is an example of an epigenetic change - where environmental factors influence the activity of genes but do not cause structural changes or mutations in the genes.

Previous work suggests the ACSL3 gene is involved in the structure of cell membranes.

But more work is needed to unpick the role of the gene in asthma.

"Our data support the concept that environmental exposures can interact with genes during key developmental periods to trigger disease onset later in life, and that tissues are being reprogrammed to become abnormal later," said Dr Shuk-mei Ho, study leader and director of the Center for Environmental Genetics at the University of Cincinnati.

She said detecting early signs of asthma could help prevent the disease than can affect as many as 25% of children in areas with high levels of traffic pollution.

Dr Keith Prowse, vice-president of the British Lung Foundation, said the study was interesting.

"We know that children living in polluted areas have a higher incidence of asthma but what we didn't know was it was affecting a gene."

"If you look at cord blood and you find the gene has been modified you know the child is more likely to get asthma so you can treat them early."

I´m glad to hear that, there was a case that some Turks keep both citizenship, Turkey and German. As the German government discovers this in the city of Hamburg, they confiscate their German passports, and there was panic, they have to renew all their working permits, permit to stay etcetera.
I was asked by the authorities to retain only one passport and I said yes. This was a necessity for my children so it is easier for them to travel.

Our Blessed Lord has made a very special promise to those who venerate His Holy Face in terms of the likeness that they themselves will have to Him in eternity

“All those who, attracted by my Love, and venerating My Face, shall receive, by virtue of My Humanity, a brilliant and vivid impression of My Divinity. This splendour shall enlighten the depths of their souls, so that when they are in eternal glory the Celestial Court shall marvel at the marked likeness of their features with My Divine Countenance”.

A woman modeling a miniskirt.  The miniskirt (often hyphenated as mini-skirt) is a skirt with a hemline well above the knees (generally 20 cmâ€"about 8 inchesâ€"or more above knee level). The mini was the defining fashion symbol of "Swinging London" in the 1960s.

Last Friday, December 1 was the 19th World AIDS Day, and an enterprising seamstress in New York decided to commemorate the big day with a very special wedding gown. Consisting entirely of 12,500 individually colored and stitched-together condoms, the result is quite fetching.

So with the average sex frequency of married couples holding right at 98 times per year according to a 2001 Durex Survey, this supply of condoms ought to keep the average married couple child-free for about 127.5 years.

There was no word about whether the condoms had been used or not before being sewn up into this dress, but with all that stitching involved, their use after the wedding ceremony was not recommended. – Charlie White

Changes happened as she was open in tv about it. Women´s movement demanded the same rights as if they are employee. Domenica was active in helping women who would like to devote themselves to other profession.  She became a streetworker advising girls/women about the risks of the occupation.
Through her work, prostitution is a legalized job in Germany.

Dear Jerwin,

Looking at the variations from the original, I reacted differently to each pictures. I din´t expect that it could affect me. At the end I would personally prefer the original. I have had a friend buried and the atmosphere and weather was just the same.
Thank you fo showing us your talent and other possibilities.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

Today, MSF provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, to challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for improved medical treatments and protocols.

In 1999, MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize.

What is pitiful in their situation is that, they are sometimes under attack. No protection are given to them. They are also victims of kidnappings. This holds true if they help civilians and there are warring factions.

Lumine, there are plenty of priveleges accorded to a foreigner to stimulate investments in our country, especially your husband is married to a Filipina (naturalized or not). Please check the website of the Phil Foreign affairs to know the  details.

Her famous “ecstasy of the Passion”, which would last from Thursday noon until 4.o’clock on Friday afternoon, began in 1542 and continued each week for 12 years, when it finally ceased at her own urgent pleading, for the confluence of great numbers of visitors, among whom were 3 future Popes, was seriously disrupting the religious life at the convent. During these ecstasies, which have been fully authenticated, Catherine would witness all the stages of Our Lord’s sufferings. The wounds, which the Savior suffered during the flagellation, the crowning with thorn, the carrying of the Cross and finally the Crucifixion became visible in her body. St Catherine also had the gift of miracles and is known to have held what might be termed telepathic conversation with such contemporary Saints as St Philip Neri in Rome and St Mary Magdalen de Pazzi in Florence â€" neither of whom she had ever metâ€"without leaving her own convent in Prato.

There is  discussion here in Germany since everything is insured. What if a person will be hurt of any debris (hypothetically)?  Will the satellite owner pay the damages?

She is american bred, just like you!  So you could appreciate now what it means freedom of speech, freedom of opinion which is sad to say forbidden in some countries.

This is common in Iran, hanged from a crane.

The fundamentalis Mullahs are very angry at her being an infidel. She just make a parallel about  2 different orientations and she is very accurate.
Nobody dares to say such thing not even in liberal Germany.
