Happy New Year to all!

Mine is not an unusual story. Everyone and everybody has one way or another narrated some if not all of what I am going to tell.

My life is a roller coaster of desperation, courage, happiness and a bit of all summed up feelings that an individual feels in his/her lifetime.

I have spent half if not two thirds of my life away from my family, spending Christmases and New Years most of the time away from them. Been there, been here and at the end of the day have temporarily settled in one place - United Arab Emirates.

My 26 years in the UAE have brought me all kinds of challenges, may it be personal or professional and I was able to face and carry them all, except for one - recent lost of a loved one who has been an important part of my life - my beloved MOTHER - though I know that in her lifetime, I have given her everything not to mention heartaches and pains.

It was so painful to know that in a matter of one year I lost her to the big "C." She has been my mother first of all, my friend, my everything...the rock within me and the whole of me. Her lost made a big void in my inner me, as if a part of me have gone with her to eternity - I am confused, in a dilemma as to what will come next, but as everybody's been telling me, I have to move on, which at this very moment is what i am slowly doing.

I tried to forget her loss, and pretend that she is still there for me and for us.

When she was still in this world, I used to call her once or twice a day, to know how is she doing, to listen to some tsismis she will tell me, some developments she has, everything there was and there is and there will be.

We argue a lot because of differences in opinions, reasons, decisions from petty to big things and all yet at the end of the day, we either compromise or just forgive and forget; and still our love for each other stands and prevails.

During her sufferings, for the last few months of her life, I was wishing that I was with her because of the long time I was not with her, but she told me, she still understands me, as I have to continue working for my future and prepare for my old age.

She foresaw that I will be alone for the rest of my life as my two children are already married.

Towards her last months, every time I called her, though she is not a whiner or a person to complain of whatever pain she felt, I can feel through her words that she is silently suffering and in much pain.

Then I talked to her on the phone one time, it was in the morning of the day she was brought to the hospital. She did not tell me that she wanted to go to the hospital, because she was already feeling very weak for the reason and for fear that I might not push through with the plan that I have to send back home her favorite great granddaughter whom she had seen through from a mere six-month old baby until this year.

It pained me to think that from the time I brought my granddaughter to live with her parents abroad, she felt more pain than her sufferings have brought her. When even she was in the hospital, she told my auntie not to tell us.

The last time I talked to her on the phone, was when she was still conscious the following day after her hospitalization and I even told her that I thought you are already okay, which she answered, I AM.

I never knew that, that was also the last time I can talk to her normally, because upon my arrival a week after she was hospitalized, she was already in coma, though she still can hear us talking to her.

I can see the pain in her, her grimaced face when she moved but still I cannot hear my NANAY complain. When she wanted to answer affirmatively, she groans as if she wanted to talk or nods her head in agreement, she still hanged onto her life and be with us for as long as she can, yet GOD has something for her to ease her pain and sufferings. He took her four days after my arrival and when everybody had talked to her either personally or by phone to ask her forgiveness and to tell her that we are letting her go.

We lost her before this Christmas, making my holiday season very sad and bleak, though I've tried. That pain of letting her go, made me feel that I am now alone, at the same time console myself that she is already with HIM, with my grandparents and most of all my father, happy through everlasting life.

This message is my way of temporarily letting go of the pain, that built up inside of me since she passed away. I was just narrating some memories of her last days that have stayed in my heart and mind.

I won't mind if readers won't understand what I have written, enough for me that I found a way out to ease a bit of what I felt.

Thanks for having this space for me.

Best regards,

Marseille - U.A.E.

A Filipino woman’s deportation from Israel has been delayed by a custody battle over her four-year-old daughter who holds an Israeli citizenship.

The Haifa district court on Thursday allowed the girl, whose father is an Israeli, to stay with her mother in a detention center in Hadera while the custody battle remains unresolved, according to Israel’s Ynetnews.

The court ordered the girl’s father to take her to kindergarten class every morning from the “Michal" detention center in Hadera.

The report said the girl’s parents met several years while her father was still married. The girl, the product of their affair, was born four years ago.

The Filipino mother went for a visit to the Philippines with the girl about two years ago. A few weeks later, the mother told the child’s mother that his daughter was ill.

The Israeli father went to the Philippines and found the mother and daughter living in a broken down shanty at the edge of the village without basic hygienic conditions.

The father took his daughter back to Israel, where she was hospitalized. Doctors believed she fell ill because of the poor conditions in the village where she stayed in the Philippines, Ynetnews reported.

The mother went back to Israel in March 2006 with a tourist visa procured by the father. Since she could not secure a permanent visa, or authorization to work in Israel, the mother now faces deportation. She has been in detention pending hearing of her deportation case.

The court said the mother's deportation may have to be delayed "until the custody matter is settled." GMA

The DFA will designate a call center (556-0000) dedicated to entertain the increasing number of passport applicants, Cristobal said.

The DFA Consular Office has also strengthened the mobile passport services in coordination with the local governments.

“This means that passport applicants can apply in their respective localities where the mobile services will be set up. Usually, the mobile services are set up in major populated centers like malls," Cristobal said.

Moscow, Russia, Dec.07, 2008 (vaticans.org) - Moscow Patriarch Alexy II today launched an appeal to live "a life of love, without forgetting our responsibilities toward others" and placing the family at the centre, during a television message for the Christmas observance of the Orthodox who follow the Julian calendar, like the Russians. Yesterday the head of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the vigil liturgy, according to tradition, in the cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. Among those present was deputy prime minister Dmitry Medvedev, who is now believed to be the future Russian president. The patriarch extended to him his wishes "that the joy of this holy feast give you strength and courage in your service for the good of our long-suffering people and Fatherland."

There are about 150 million Orthodox Christians who today - in Russia, in the Holy Land, and in some of the other Eastern Orthodox Churches - are celebrating Christmas according to the Julian calendar. This is thirteen days behind the Gregorian calendar used by Catholics, Protestants, some of the Orthodox, like the ecumenical patriarch, and the secular world. But on January 7 in Russia, both the secular and religious world celebrate Christmas as a national holiday, and the religious fasting from meat, sweets, and alcohol begun on November 28 comes to an end.

"Abortion, divorce, the hunt for profit and pleasure, neglect of one's own children who often fail to receive affection and education from their parents; all this," Alexy II emphasizes, "transforms the life of the individual and of the entire country into an existence without happiness and full of remorse of conscience."

Christmas was, for head of state Vladimir Putin, an occasion to repeat his summons "to national unity and to respect for traditional values", themes that he often recalls for the population. Putin participated in the Christmas celebrations in the ancient city of Veliky Ustyug, which for the Russians is the home of Santa Claus (whom they call Father Frost). From here, Putin sent his Christmas greetings to the citizens: "This feast . . . turns us to eternal spiritual values that unite millions of people, values that play a special role in the Russian history and feed our national culture".

Vatican City, Jan. 10, 2008  â€" The Pope is at one with Iraqi Christians touched by attacks in Baghdad, Mosul and Kirkuk, which for him are attacks against the whole people of Iraq. He therefore calls upon those who perpetrated such acts of violence to stop and forsake them.

In a telegram signed by the Vatican Secretary of State, Card Tarcisio Bertone, that was sent to the Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans, Card Emmanuel III Delly, the Holy Father said that he was urging “all those in authority to renew efforts towards peaceful negotiation aimed at a just resolution of the country's difficulties, respectful of the rights of all.”

“Deeply concerned to learn of the attacks on Christian targets in Baghdad, Mosul, and Kirkuk which took place last Sunday and yesterday,” read the message, “the Holy Father expresses his spiritual closeness to the injured and their families. To Your Eminent Beatitude, as President of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Iraq, and to the Archbishops of the cities concerned, he offers fraternal assurances of prayer as you seek to offer hope and strength to your people. He asks you, moreover, to convey his heartfelt solidarity to the superiors of the religious communities affected by these attacks, and to renew his sentiments of sincere solidarity with all members of the Christian communities in Iraq, Catholic and non-Catholic alike.”

“Mindful that such attacks are also directed against the whole people of Iraq,” the telegram adds that “His Holiness appeals to the perpetrators to renounce the ways of violence, which have caused so much suffering to the civilian population, and he encourages all those in authority to renew efforts towards peaceful negotiation aimed at a just resolution of the country's difficulties, respectful of the rights of all. Praying for a return to the peaceful coexistence of the diverse groups that make up the population of this beloved country, the Holy Father commends all the people of Iraq to the heavenly protection of our almighty and merciful Father.”

Philippines' inflation rate at 6.6 pc in 1999
Asian Economic News,  Jan 10, 2000
MANILA, Jan. 5 Kyodo

The Philippines posted a 6.6% inflation rate for the whole of 1999, significantly lower than 9.8% recorded in 1998 and below last year's 7% target rate, the National Statistics Office said Wednesday.

The office said December's inflation, on a year-to-year basis, increased slightly to 4.3%. For November, the figure was 3.9%.

In December, commodities recorded slightly higher inflation, while other groups either fell or remained unchanged, the office said.

The December rate for food, beverages and tobacco slightly increased to 0.6% compared with 0.1% in November. For clothing, the figure edged up to 4.9% from November's 4.8%, the office said.

In economics, the inflation rate is a measure of inflation, the rate of increase of a price index (usually some form of consumer price index). Equivalently, the rate of decrease in the purchasing power of money.

It's used to calculate the real interest rate, as well as real increases in wages, and official measurements of this rate act as input variables to COLA adjustments and Inflation derivatives prices.

The rate is usually expressed in annualized terms, though the measurement periods are usually different from one year. Inflation rates are often given in seasonally adjusted terms, removing systematic quarter-to-quarter variation.

here are two general methods for calculating inflation rates - one is to use a base period, the other is to use "chained" measurements. Chained measurements adjust not only the prices, but the contents of the market basket involved, with each price period. More common, however, is the base period reference. This can be seen from inflation reports from the "relative weight" assigned to each component, and by looking at the technical notes to see what each item in an inflation basket represents and how it is calculated.

#7837
hi pepz,
kana pag ubos sa dollar naay advantage likewise disadvantage,
i try to explain ok?

kon mo ubos ang foreign currency- it means our peso incline to higher value
we are able to cope up a little bit the so called "inflation rate"
example.: ang Poland , 1Euro-equivalent to how many thousand of their currency na
meaning gamatoy kaayo ug value ilahang kuarta, mao usab hinungdan nga wla sila ma
qualified sa European currency,

imagine pepz ha,kini basihe, even ang Spanish "pesetas" ubos rag value sa atong pesos
naghinayhinay na kita ug compete sa foreign currency and that means our economic growth
is gettin better na, if and only if things would get to "stable" level, theres a tendency
that our prices would be cheaper na pod.

we are then trying to accumulate our standard, it really means a lot to our country.

disadvantage:
we pepz living abroad whos trying to help the family across the miles would literally see it
differently hence we have to double the amount to be send out there,
say instead of 100Euro which before reaches to almost 7000pesos
we have to make it 150Euro if we try to maintain the amount we usually send them.

more nxt time ok?

Travel Advisory from American Embassy Manila

Please share this with your friends and relatives.

Please be informed of the recent travel advisory to
the United States. However, not only pirated VCDs/DVDs
are on the hot list. Customs officials are also
looking into fake bags like Louis Vuitton, Coach, etc.
Please be informed that the American Association of
Publishers(AAP) has also alerted the American customs officers
to check out for pirated books. This information; was
given to me by Patricia Judd of the AAP.

Please warn all nursing graduates who plan to take the
NCLEX and CGF exams in the States not to bring in
these pirated books because there will be a penalty of
automatic deportation as violation of intellectual
property rights. If you know anyone going from the
Philippines and coming back to the USA , with
"pasalubongs" and "padalas," please read this
important enclosed advisory from the American Embassy in Manila.

Just a friendly reminder: if you have plans of going
to the U.S.,please take precautionary measures on all
"padalas," especially those containing fake/pirated
compact discs/DVDs. US Embassy employees have been
given an advisory that as US Gov't employees, we
should abide by the U.S.laws, including Intellectual
Property Rights (anti-piracy) laws.

As an additional incentive, the Consular Section
recently received a report that the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) searched the bag of a Filipino
entering the U.S. on NW 72 in Detroit.

During the search, 70-80 compact discs, 30-40 empty
DVD jackets and 10-20 DVDs were found. Since the
travelers were not American citizens, their visas were
canceled and they returned to the Philippines .

If they had been Americans, they could have been
subject to arrest and criminal prosecution in
addition to civil fines and penalties.

Please remember even ONE pirated item can jeopardize
your trip. Also, the fingerprinting system has
successfully been instituted in all port of entries. I
suggest you bring extra identification cards in
addition to your passport to facilitate your entry in
the US Immigration. I hope this is helpful to you.

Thanks and regards

U.S. Immigration , US Dept. of Homeland
Security & TRAVEL ADVISORY

This information is very alarming and I think it's
worth sharing to save you from trouble and
embarrassment.

A Filipino friend shared this email. His friend who
works for Homeland Security as Immigration Inspector
at LAX ( Los Angeles International Airport ) called
him yesterday to share the information that happened
last weekend. A FIL-AM citizen who was flying to the
Philippines for vacation was apprehended by an Airport
Immigration agent while she was checking in her
baggage and going through the X-ray machine. For some
reason, she was randomly checked and was told to open
all the envelopes inside her carry-on Coach bag.

They found 10 envelops addressed to different people
in the Philippines. When all the envelops were opened,
a total of $11,000 cash was discovered. They asked the
traveler if she knew the contents of the envelope. She
said no, because all the envelopes are just "padala"
and the senders didn't tell her whether or not there
was money inside.

Immigration agents showed her a Policy and guidance
stating that it is illegal to import and export over
$10,000 in any Asian countries to prevent the
possibility of supporting terrorism.

She was fined $500, her name was "red labeled" by
Immigration (means every time she enters and exits the
airport, she will be searched 100%),and she also
missed her scheduled flight to the Philippines for
being held almost 5 hours. Hard to believe that departing
passengers from the U.S. are also subject to the
policy but looks like it is being strictly enforced
now.

The lessons learned is before you accept any "padala",
make sure the envelopes are open and you physically
see the contents of it or just plainly say "sorry but
I can't accept any padala" for your own safety.

Hi Blue,

Our home visit was quite very expensive considering to the very low  Dollar and Euro rates. In MIA was very less  but in Tagbilaran it raises for about 50 centavos lang. Perti gjod nahong panggulitawo sa tig-baylo to have it higher bisan pag dako imo pabaylo-an- no chance gjod. 1 Dollar - 40.50Pesos ug ang kilo sa pasayan is 400 Pesos. And in Bohol Beach Club overnight is the Standard room is 79 $ without breakfast. We have lot of foreigners already living in Bohol and the prices is not anymore affordable to some of our co Pinoys.  Lisod gjod!

Thanks Bams 4d infos. mao jud na perting saka sa palaliton apan wlay increase sa sweldo, kon motaas ra ba ky
