since i came in this part of the globe, i've never seen a president in the USA who is as passionate as Obama regarding his platform of government. until now he is still going from one community forum to another, even facing his Republican opponents and engaging them in a debate, just to explain and assure the people about his well-intentioned dream for healthy America.

i am just wondering how could one face all of those emotional debates, if he is not totally convinced that his program is not a pile of bullshits.

hehehehe ! ako ra sad ni ha.

I think Obama is still campaigning. He's very good at it, but I think he is doing a piss poor job at being president. From the Rasmussen polls,  his popularity has taken quite a dive.

It still is a democracy and when a lot of people protest against a bill, no matter how passionate you are, you should take that into consideration.

I think what they've done is just shove it down everybody's throat regardless if you want it or not.

I can be passionate about some things...it doesn't mean its right or its not b***, but I can be passionate...ang mga bayoooottt ilansang sa crus !!! waaa...just kidding. :-)

In my opinion, European medical doctors are willing to work outside their area, that means "Doctors without borders"  are  mostly Europeans. This altruistic attitude is developed since they see it here in Europe the benefits of cheap medical treatment, in comparison to some third world countries.
Some German doctors and the like go to our country to serve some areas like Mindanao (medical mission) and spent their holidays there. Manambal sila for 2 weeks dayon bakasyon 1 week ni-anang lugara.
There is a best surgeon in London who works in African countries during summertime to operate on legs and limbs maimed by mines. This Cambridged educated doctor collects some donations from his very rich patients and buys prothese for his African project.
German-Fil friendship organizations, sends medicines and medical tools to Luzon especially in Cordillera province.
I think Mdb is right, dinhi ang mga tawo dali ra nimo mapangayuan kon bahin sa hinabang labi na ang Germany kay nakatilaw sila ug giyera, they start from the scratch, they know what poverty is really like.
Lorenzo, this is my experience here, I don´t know how the American counterparts do their share of loving their neighbors.

There has been quiet a few US medical missions too. My Aunts in Tangub hosted a group for a few years in a row. Sila tanan mga puti, nag mission ra gud pud and dala books, crayons and pencils for the children.

Also, there has been a medical mission in Tagbilaran for the past 2 years that are from the US too. Kanang Botika sa Katawhan diri sa Tagbilaran, solicited from and donated by generous donors from the US man sad. I think naa sad sagol from other countries pero kadaghanan from US

You have  a  point  Lorenzo   but  think  about  those  that  can't  afford what  you  can  because  you  are  a  doctor...

We also have to think, where is the money coming from ? From us taxpayers of course. That's life. It may be cruel and mean to say it, but we can't save everybody.

I would love to send all my relatives in Bohol to school, but I can't afford it. I wish I could feed and clothe all of my poorer relations but I can't.

We all can relate to this because in our families we have poorer cousins and richer cousins. We try to help as much as we could but we still can't help everybody.

Furthermore, we also have cousins who don't help themselves. Alangan naman ikaw maningkamot para nila.

Its thesame thing. There are a bunch of people in the US who opt not to have insurance. Mao gud puy ila by choice. There are also a bunch who cannot afford because they chose not to afford.

Example : We have a rental house that we are renting to this family. They are late a lot of months and there was a time that they were 3 weeks late so we went to give them an eviction notice. Come to find out, they have 3 flat screen TVs, high end furniture, etc....hmmm....talk about priorities. Would we be expected to save them ? NO WAY ! that is their problem...

In the US, there is no shortage of those kinds of people too.

Jellybean, I don't think the laborers care where they put the posters up. They just put everything up and be done with it. Its mind numbing, grueling work under excruciating heat...what do you think ? Besides, I don't think they have the luxury or time to stop AND think. They do what they're hired to do, end of story.

if people don't want posters on their trees or on their yards, SHUT UP AND TAKE ACTION. Take it down. After all, your yard and your trees are yours and they are your responsibility. For them to whine about it is stupid and doesn't accomplish anything.

My general view on elections (sukad pa ni sa una ug maski as apa ni, sad to say)...

Wew! What's new?!!  ???

Pailad man gani sa una, karon na ba hinoon, bwahahaha. Kinsa man nila (o ninyo) ang matinud-anon nga DILI mamalit ug boto, ug kung kinsa usab nila'y (o ninyo) ang dili mobaligya ug boto (di mangayo ug di modawat ug pabor)?  :P :P :P

I'm apt to use sa expression nilang mga taga-Inabanga: "Bag-o galing?!!"   ;D

:-) walay pagka-usab.

To think that most species of snakes are rather meek. Pero lisod ning nagdako ta with this unfortunate association.

Syempre, it also comes with education. Most people won't bother to investigate those things that they fear, they would rather run away. :-) Some people would bother to actually read up and learn and realize that snakes are also God's creatures. While Satan used the body of a snake as a vessel, he is no different from a possessed person...we accept the person as inherently good, but not the evil spirits that possessed him .

To be fair, there are quite a few number of snakes wandering around in our beloved Bohol that is poisonous so people are not willing to take that chance. I heard that there are more people killed by dogs each year than by snakes... interesting huh ?

Be Honest, even if Erico is not
Be Honest, even if Erico will not
Be Honest, even if Erico cannot

Hahay, both of those politicians ma-intriga na kaau, syempre, what do you expect from career politicians.

Speaking of the environment, mao ni akong nakit-an pag uli nako last December. Maka-gaba jud pag-ayo.

Dili bya ta mo-ihaw ug baboy nga buntis, baka nga buntis o kanding nga buntis, pareha ra sad ani.

To those kinds of people that they need to feel that "high" of having "made it", good for them. They deserve it. Laliman ba gud pud ang tinag 12hr duty 6 days a week. Lahi-lahi man ta. For those who are like me nga mabaw ug kalipay, sige ra pilit sa Mama, ligo dagat, tambay sa barkada unya bisita sa mga kahayupan,  I hope ingon sad sila nga "good for you" ( or more probably, pagkang tihika si Ging-ging,wala man jud ni duga). wahahaha !

Preha ming ga trabaho, dli lang ko sige mag overtime, dli sad ko nagapadala ug daghang kwarta buwan2..pero gamay ra man sad ko utang, wala man sad ni complain akong mama, wala sad ni complain akong bana..awp..ok ra pud nako.   :)

hey!! gud day 2 all. According to that topic, we can`t just be too narrow with the situation and the real status of Filipino student`s. First, consider the nutrition that most Filipino student eat daily. Is the food they intake very nutritious to support their mental need? Do they have enough vitamins to sustain their strength daily? These are the vital needs of students for them to attain good mental function.

KAMO BA NAA MO`Y SAKJANAN..PERO WALAY IKAPALIT UG GASOLINA,....MAPADAGAN BA NA NINJO?

To be honest, there are lots of cheap even free fruits and vegetables that should be nutritious to our people. We have lots of edible flowers that grow wild in the Philippines. The gumamela/hibiscus for example...also, like the asparagus plant, darn, we don't see a lot of asparagus soup but rather, we make the leaves as corsages. They grow like crazy.  Peppers are very resilient and easy to grow. It even survives extreme Texas weather, 110 deg in the summer and just this winter, it dropped to 18deg...my peppers are 3 yrs old. Imagine how they would do in our rich soils and tropical climate in the Philippines.

Kangkong and Malunggay are like weeds...sure they get killed come winter time but they grow enough in the 6 months of the year for me to have soup. Imagine if they grow year round without the help of fertilizers...you know...like in Bohol.

Its not just a matter of solving nutritional deficiencies but a deeper more inherent problem of the underlying attitude and habits of the population at large. :-)

______________

LOL ! my first reaction was laughing until I was breathless....but then I thought about it,maybe this guy's serious so thought I'd share.

Earlier today, (Saturday, dec. 5, 2009) My mom and I parked at St. Joseph's Cathedral by Garden Cafe in Tagbilaran City to run a few errands. When we got back, we found this note stuck on the windshield of our car. Not sure if this is some sort of joke or if he's for real. You decide.

I saw this MOST Special friend at 'Mira Villa Resort' Tagbilaran last May 12,2009, and I gave her a Bible paper; but she was so special to me from her Beauty, character, and personality, I wasn't able to speak. - We BOTH would like to find each other again; she may be in Cebu or anywhere working, or in school, but is Boholana; and would have relatives here. - Pay attention to the above length hair; she can be found simply because of that, and with her age. - She is GWAPA x 50 million, and is a Very Special lady. She is Smart, maybe 5'3"-4" in height, is slim, small features, has light eyes, likes to wear her hair in 'Pony Tail', has very light skin, but is Simple ('Flawless') - I also saw her at B.Q. for a moment Oct. 12 ( Five months to the day. - And I had an older mom tell me, 'When the heart is totally full, the mouth is totally empty.' And I said, 'Wow!, do the younger ladies know that? :-) ) - Please if you ever think of, or see Anyone like this, ask her 'if she was at Mira Villa Resort last May 2009, in receiving a Bible paper from an American'; and if she says yes, ask her contacts, and email me at God2us@yahoo.com and I will arrange for you a P10,000 cash. ( Again, we Both would like to find each other again), And I MISS HER VERY VERY MUCH, so please do your best, and don't lose this paper and email address, and THANK you.

Sounds like straight from a high school girl's playbook...unfortunately, grown up women practice it too.

As Christians you are to encourage wellnes for everyone. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and own choice just so long as your not hurting anyone or getting in their way.

If you're unhappy with where you are, your responsibility to yourself is to rectify the situation and go somewhere else...well...as grown ups...we also have to consider our mouths to feed. I don't know him but I wish him luck too.

our freedom comes with responsibilities...Well said...When people negatively point at things other people have done...they call it Freedom of the Press...but when they are asked what they have done to help...they simply  continue and persist to negatively point out the works of others...
This is a sad, reality about freedom and responsibility...maayo na lang; these kind of people are in the minority...the problem is they are the most talkative...probably in the hope of covering up their non-performance...this is true specially now when elections are approaching...Be Wary, Discern and be Conscious of these wolves in sheep's clothing...They can usually be identified by their foul language and angry tone...

Just the other day, i got a phonecall from my Mama. One of the mayoral candidates in Tagbilaran City and the radio station that supports him are bashing all the department heads under the current administration because they are unsatisfied with the way things are done. Well, no organization is perfect...but you can't expect to get unrealistic expedited service from the government either. Not even in the US and specially never in the good old Philippines. talk about procedural red tape..!

The only reason my mother even knew of this planned attack was that one of the reporters in question apologized to her in advance and told her that if he and his fellow reporters do not say what they are supposed to say, they will get fired. No matter that they and their families have been recipients of the other candidate's generosity or of my mother's personal generosity and help.  The radio station in question has a beef with the current administration allegedly because of tax evasion and how they got caught tapping electricity from somebody else.

By favoring the other candidate, they are hoping that the charges against them will be dropped if their candidate wins.

No matter the candidate they're supporting has never held a career job...no matter that the candidate they're supporting has not even passed the civil service exam...no matter that the candidate they're supporting has done NOTHING...not a single project that he can call his in Tagbilaran City.

But again, like the previous posters said, these kinds of people are loud and talkative. They talk and talk and when you ask for proof, they don't have any. All they do is point fingers and find mistakes. Criticize others even though they haven't done anything for themselves or for the city.

Oh well, to be fair..i think that's how politics go...here in Texas, its thesame. The gubernatorial ads were just like the Philippines. intriga diri, intriga didto...iningles lang. LOL !

I just hate the fact that since this candidate in question is running out of ammo, he's resorting to picking on government officials who aren't even elected and who have served 30 yrs or more with a good record in the city just because they are serving under the current administration.

hmmmm....food for thought for the stupid prick...if he does win, those officials he is bashing will still be the department heads of their respective departments. They have been for the last few mayoral terms and most of them have been doing a pretty damn good job...given what they have to work with. I don't think he thought it through that if he will win, he's already antagonized his "cabinet" and they won't be too inclined to help him with his projects...IDIOT !

hahay... I wish he will just campaign to highlight the reasons why he should be voted in, instead of campaign to smear and pull down his opponent. If I was the thinking person, I'd think to myself... Board Certified Lawyer...or...sketchy no-career-except-small-town-politics loudmouth.  Unfortunately, we need the majority, not the thinking population.

On a very unrelated topic....I think Baba Yap will win as a Tagbilaran City Councilor. I don't know him personally but from what I hear, even 60yo grandmas are hugging and kissing him and having their pictures taken with him because  "he's soooo poggiiiiii" LOL !

Haven't been here for a while...but this is a good read.

10 years ago, I was a freshman in UPDil when my parents caught me joining EDSA II and promptly deported me back home to go study in HNU and killed off my aspirations to go to UP Law.

Looking back, doing that was probably the best thing that happened to me. I took accounting...got drunk every night with my girlfriends, managed to hang on to the Dean's list and got married when I was 20. No, didn't get preggy, and no kids yet after 6+yrs of marriage.

My point is, its easy to be idealistic when we're young. Easier to berate and go on and on about others when we are in our ivory tower in academe. I moved out of the Philippines and relocated to the US when I was 21 and boy was it an eye opener. No matter how much things are supposed to work in theory, in real life, it simply does not work. REALLY.

I hate to offend anybody but we Filipinos have our own smarts and dumbos, have our own hard workers and juan tamads, our own disgraceful tramps and respectable dames. 5 years living and working in Houston has taught me as much. A quick 3 week trip to Hong Kong educated me more.

While my husband and I  ( 33 and 27 respectively) work day in and day out to provide for our life, we see a lot of young filipina girls in their teens...(17,18, 19) marry 50 some yo men and do not work. Rather, spend their days lounging around gossiping in the filipino store. On the upside...I go to any hospital here and I kid you not, ICU nurses, specialized head nurses, you're bound to find a handful of normal hard working Pinays who are the nicest people on earth.

While there are times that I hear families of men in the US military trash Filipinas because their son or nephew brought home a hooker from Angeles City and now she's cheating left and right, I also hear an equal number of praise from other American families who married a Filipina or Filipino about how family oriented we are and how we are a great addition to their family.

Its good to try to make everybody feel good about being Filipino but in reality, we are all thesame. There is such a thing as The Universality of the Human Experience. We may differ in culture or in the color of our skin, but we are all thesame. The only difference I can see is in the general attitude about life.

Think about powerful countries...they're not perfect. In the US, there are tons of things that I would rally against if I had the time or energy. Heck, I don't think our president is doing a great job and a lot of our senators look like idiots on national TV. I would bet my bottom dollar that Philippine Political TV is just as entertaining. (sorry, I don't have TFC, not worth $30/mo when I just tv watch less than 3 hrs total a week)

The difference that I see is the pride in oneself to be part of a collective group. Here in Texas, people are damn proud to be Texan. The ones that weren't born here are proud to be an adopted Texan...and if you were in Florida, you'd see "i love Florida"...hell, think about those " I (heart) New York" shirts. Slogans like that arent just slogans or prints on a shirt. People really do feel that way. I have not seen anybody in my life...well Filipino anyway that is and was openly proud of where he or she is from.

I brag about Bohol, my friends brag about where they're from but nobody gets into bar fights because we think our province is better than the other.

The Italians here are proud to be Italians. They are proud to be Texan, proud to be American. But they are also proud to be Italian.  Same goes to the Irish, even the Polish and the Germans living here.

The Filipinos....hmmm....nobody talks about being proud to be Filipino. Everybody talks about vacationing but nobody really talks about pride in ones roots. Pride in one's work or pride in one's geographical origin. While the Italian, Polish, Russian, Chinese, German, even Iranian restaurants cater to everybody. The Filipino restaurants cater to only the Filipinos and heck, has that air of exclusivity. Not really very smart or bright from a business stand point. Most become a meeting place of the jobless or the illegals and the gossip mongers that interviews every other customer that comes in for lunch or dinner...or heaven forbid, you have white/black/latino friends.

I think we have to love what we are first and make peace with what we have and what we are born with before we can progress.  When we look at our "beautiful" candidates, we see mestizos and mestizas..I mean face it, that's what we consider beautiful. When we are in school and some balikbayan becomes our classmate. We automatically assume they are better because they've been overseas...we never look at them as equals rather, most people put them on a pedestal.

Heck, its almost even taboo to openly say that you love yourself or you love the way you look because you can be considered conceited.

Face it folks, our culture does not facilitate for us to grow and be smart and bright. Because if we are smart and bright and openly ambitious, we get shot down faster than anything you can imagine. We are almost scared to try because we are scared to fail...and scared to fail because we will have to face our friends and family who will relish in telling us "MIRISI !!!! AMBISYOSA MAN....WAAAAA"

And if we so succeed in being smart, bright and actually realize our ambitions, heaven forbid we are tired and do not wave at everybody on the way home from work, or nod at each and everyone in church or donate insane amounts of our income to everyone that comes a-knocking on our door. For our hard work, we are expected to share everything with everyone and leave nothing for ourselves lest we be called "hambugero" or "laog".  Sad part is...we are expected to share everything with everyone, even those who never does anything for themselves.

Sorry this is a long rant from a long silent period. I just had a trying day with a Filipino client who wants preferential treatment because he's Filipino and I'm Filipino and doesn't respect professional courtesy. I am not being snobbish, but yes, you can call me on my cell...but please, not repeatedly after business hours to ask me to do business favors...arghhhhh!!!!
