Saudi is a very peaceful country, but very un-democratic. You can not imagine the tight security here.

There are checkpoints in every corner and  they are arresting anybody who is propagating extremism.

Majority of the Saudis are against violent change and extremism. They even ban the Palestinian head scarf which represents Holy War.

I can say that Al Qaeda is 99% iradicated in Saudi. However, it continues to flourish in the mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Last July, President Bush visited here and no civilian nor vehicle is allowed within 1 Km range from his route.  We can only see him on TV.

There are even more Al Qaedas in UK and Germany than in Saudi.

I know one and that is technical training to the urban poor. This is empowerment of an individual for self sustainability; thus, eradicating or knocking down poverty (borrowed from GEC).

It is like the saying that I've read somewhere in Tubag Bohol: "Give a man a fish and he will feast for a day; Teach him how to fish and he will feast for a lifetime".

Rosamia5, many people in Tubag Bohol are willing to help people with noble endeavour. However, how can we be sure that you are not a part of a scam. Sorry to ask but you know the world these days.

Hence, please introduce yourself and from which country and university you are based.

Thanks

Thanks Manay,

Seaweed farming is not only hot cash, but also provides a clean living. It cleans the water, provides oxygen, provides shelter for small fishes and shrimps.

The plastic it produce is biodegradable and will become top soil.

If you remember Mr. Rostico Dabatos, the guy in the reception of DFA when you renew your passport in Cebu, he is my causin and they have a sea weed farm in Talibon since I was in high school.

Another possible course for Manny is BSEED major in Music.

I noticed Manny Pacquiao is a fast learner.

If you observe, na improved iyang English in just a very short time.

Also he knows how to face the media and all his lines are un-scripted. It just came naturally from his mouth. The way he talks (English or Tagalog) is very spontaneous which reflects his quick thinking.

His reasoning power can handle bluffs and candid questions. I think he could be a good lawyer.

Any product  nga naay label sa ingredients carrageenan it means naay seaweed ana mostly beauty product naa ang carrageenan like lipstick.

Raq,

Among ig-agaw sa Hingutanan Island, Talibon dugay ra nga nag sea weed or guso farming, since high school pa ko hangtod karon.

Karon among companya dire nangita ug Sea Sponge supplier bisan asa sa kalibutan. Do you know anybody in Bohol?

So, kun dunay tag U$D 0.25 or less, pahibaw-a ko. Basta kini nga sea sponge processed na, meaning bleached, dried and light brown in color, 3-4 inches in diameter.

Kini nga sponge gi gamit sa paligo sa new born nga mga bata ug in demand ni worldwide.

Makapangagho man sab ta. Kahibaw na mong tanan nga walay Christmas dire sa mong lugar nga gi trabahoan. Dili gyud nimo ma feel ang Christmas in the air ug wala kay makita dire nga resemblance ug Christmas in the streets.

Macks, the owner of Legacy Group is Celso delos Angeles.  He is based in Bicol region.  It's more likely than not that he invested in stocks in Wall Street which we know now that most are almost negative of value already.

Gaka panic attack ko ani na news.  My aunt in Davao works at Legacy.  She has big exposure and she also had friends invest their money in Legacy. Not only is she losing money, she will also be jobless. My aunt in CDO invested her husband's retirement unya ang interest monthly maoy gigamit for monthly consumption nila.  And now it's gone.

My cousin is president/manager of one rural bank in Cebu owned  by Legacy.  She called me this afternoon and she asked for prayer kay naa sya'y prospective buyer sa iyang bank.  She is not worried about catering the massive withdrawal these days but ga worry sya come early January kay daghan mag mature na time deposits.  Hay, grabeh kalisud jud.     All these talks about bank holidays reminded me of my own experience back then as a banker of a struggling bank.  Dili lalim gajud!  You have to face the wrath of your clients...

Amerkano man lagi to ang ilang regional manager nga akong nahimamat.

Agora will always be part of my childhood memories.

Mahal man mokaon sa BQ sauna.

So, iyang gilabay sa bintana ug may iro nga mikuha niini.

Murag tinood to kay mga 6 years old ko adto ug nahinumdom ko nga dunay pula nga square nga naa sa baston sa akong lolo. Basi mao to ang librito.

We Pinoys are known for our unusual superstitious beliefs that exists in our culture and tradition for centuries. When I was a kid, I heared tons of stories about supernatural powers, magic stones, dagons, sinyal, anting-anting. When you are a kid, your imagination runs like a Harry Potter movie.

Meanwhile, other cultures like the Chinese are still practicing thier indigenous beliefs even during this modern times.

Because denying these things is denying our roots, our ancestors.

Lets Talk, lets share the stories of our Lolos and Lolas.

So, unsa ang imong nahibal-an nga anting-anting, dagon, agimat, sinyal superpowers, etc nga kabilin sa imong Lolo ug Lola?

Applyan lang nimo ug simple marketing strategy nga natural ingredients, with no harmful chemicals, for daily use, gentle exfoliating, hypoallergenic, safe for the environment. Butangan lang ug warning nga do not recycle. Hehehe. Unsa kaha ang brand name nga puede ani nga producto.

Naa pay mas short cut sa bunot nga ilo. Magpa slide sa palwa.

I appreciate your great concern to our environment Bolingitboy. Sa tinood, this is the only material thing that our kids, the future generation can inherit. If you love your children, give them the best air, water, food and sunshine.

Kini raba nga business climate is very volatile and unpredictable.

First of all, what we are doing is serving the enemy.

Since the Galleon Trade centuries ago, we were the leading supplier of Copra and Rice in the whole world which peaked during the Marcos Regime. Philippine economy was once Envied by Southeast Asian countries, until Malaysia become an established Country. From that time, our copra was rivaled with Malaysian Palm Oil until one false report by the US FDA in the 80's pointing coconut oil as full of cholesterol and may cause cancer. This negative findings prompted US consumers to switch to Palm Oil which signaled the death of COCOFED.

I was in high school at that time and that news is still fresh in my mind. In my own opinion, this could be an economic sabotage.

The result is environmental degradation because former coconut plantations were cut-down and turned into coco-lumber or the land is turned into residential lands. Also Educational programs which were sponsored by COCOFED were stopped causing dumbing down or decline of our professionals since that time.

Now, the number one producers of coconut is India and we have nothing.

We deserve apology from US FDA for that negative publication. At present time, coconut oil is re-introduced as health food, but we are too late because India took over our place in the world market.

For Gods sake why are we doing this? We are not only defeated against this competitor, but we are now serving/promoting it.

What if we have all Palm Oil in our farms and suddenly the world demand will suddenly stop. There will be massive famine.
#734
Of course monocroping is bad for the soil and the environment. As well as the biodiversity.

Some Malaysian companies are buying lands in Mindanao under the names of influential people, for this purpose. In fact it is already happening as I am writing this.

Not only the biodiversity is affected, but the indigenous people who are residing in that area will be displaced or relocated, just to be owned by few rich people.

This is unethical and should stop.

Moreover, if Cha-cha or Charter Change is ratified, these Malaysian businessmen will have legal rights to own the land. They can rock & roll without limits, seeping away our resources like pests. Our local/small-time business men will stand no chance against these international giants.

This is undermining/dishonoring the ideals and valor of our heroes who spill blood in ousting foreign dominance.

In these modern times the world is at war, not on bullets, but on economy.

Hi Gener & Benne san,

I'm not frequent with Tubag Bohol due to work constraints these days.

Like Gener, I am also in Saudi and living in Al Khobar. In fact we are just neighbors (about 60 Kms away) from Jubail.

Thanks Gener for Gener-ously sharing your inspiring thoughts. I am sure it opened other people's perceptions about life and going abroad, which is rather a sacrifice (in our case).

As everyone knows, our income in Saudi is not too favorable compared to other countries. However, I still considered myself lucky because my wife and 3 young kids are here with me and that is the only compliment. This makes me think about the future of our country, when present generation is in constant trauma of a separated family. Perhaps only our being a resilient race helps.

At an early age, your kids knew what is Faith. It is comparable to Christian faith, where Physically you are not there, but they felt your care and they are looking forward to your coming back. "Remote Parenting" is a new vocabulary.

By the way, did you went to the Filipino Fun Day at Half Moon Beach Yesterday? Eric Santos, the singer was the guest. I did not went because tickets are high.

How to remove the middleman?  Organize a cooperative.  This is very practical and it helps the fisherman to get the most of their catch.  Life is not really easy for them, I know they sell the bigger ones and the rest smaller catch are consumed.  There are authorities who must help them. TB members who are in our province please try and see some possibilities.
I am not updated of our government agencies, I think we can do some urgent letters to them to get their attention.

Middle men are the integral part of the supply chain. Thats why we have SEC and DTI to control/regulate prices and regionalize companies; i.e. business licenses have limits to certain boundaries.

Needless to say, SEC & DTI must do their task & responsibilities without being told.

BNC & Manay,

Gi introduce pa gani to siya sa among class.

Mao nga nawad-an ko ug gana.

So, ang akong trabaho karon is International Trading ug mi angay ko ani nga trabaho.

Way back in 2002, we have an engineering group (mga barkadas) that conducted feasibility study of exporting a wind turbine from Netherlands to the Philippines.

Lingaw - lingaw lang every weekend and just to satisfy curiousity. We inquired prices and shipping costs, custom duties, taxes, etc.

So, our findings are, it is very feasible and the overall cost of materials including shipping, etc. will break even at the end of the year and cost of maintenance is very minimum which is only lubricating. Each wind turbine (average size) could generate electricity for 50 household with rate of 50% cheaper than NAPOCOR.

1. It is a fact that among the first Filipinos who migrated to the US during 1800's were the Ferniz family of Mansasa, Tagbilaran, Bohol.

2. I remembered vividly during my childhood years that our relatives from the US visited our home in Tagbilaran, Bohol. They were some of our lost relatives whom my father met during the late 50's & early 60's when he was working in the US. I was grade five at that time and thier visit was a month after the Tagbilaran Fiesta (maybe June 1978 or 1979). They were the newly wed couple ELEANOR ALBA and GERALD FLAHERTY. Four years passed and I was in 3rd year high school, AGNES FERNIZ ALBA (Eleanor's mother) visited us with some friends. That was maybe July. Agnes doesn't look like filipino as her mother was half Irish, but surprisingly, Eleanor her daughter looks more Filipino, with profile like Gloria Diaz.

Then, when I was in 1st year college, a biographer working for the US government named Marina Morales came to Bohol to investigate and document about lineage/roots of early Fil-Am communities. Since she came without a guide, she inquired from the Catholic Women’s League about Ferniz family in Bohol, hoping to find some information from baptismal records. Luckily, the parents of my best friend Crispin Penaso Jr. were active lay-ministers at St. Joseph's Cathedral. They immediately brought Mrs. Morales to our home and I remembered it was one early morning. She interviewed my father who had substantial knowledge of our lineage.

As an adult, every memory came back in pieces. I was curious and it became my passion to dig deeper. Through word by mouth, and research, I found the following data.

Though still having gaps, I hope I could complete this research through this beautiful site “Tubag Bohol” and through your help my dear friends (living in the US):

About GALOC Oil in Palawan, I strongly suggest we should close it.

We are buying crude oil from it at $80 per barrel. While, Dubai crude is at around $60 per barrel.

Why sacrifice our seas for potential oil spill if we can buy cheaper oil from the Middle East.

GALOC Oil venture is a lossing enterprise. All parties are lossing, but the biggest lossers are us, the Filipinos because we have the biggest risk.

Palawan is home for the underground river, a promising winner for the New Seven Wonders of the World and a great tourist attraction. We should not combine Oil and Tourism Industry.

I saw one reality show in the US where contestants are dared to eat different kinds of insects like spiders or cockroach or raw genitals of cow, etc. in exchange for US visa. Most of the contestants were Mexicans and some Chinese who want to become US citizens. Such shows in the US have high ratings.

Such is unethical and whoever enjoys such show is a sick person.

It is no different from watching in Roman arenas where followers of Christ battles with lions.

Around 60% of our senses are focused in our eyes, so if you close your eyes for sometime, you will notice your other senses will sharpen like touch, smell, taste, hearing.

So if you want to deceive somebody, let this person look & focus to one object then they will disregard other things even if you put fire under thier feet.

Anonymous Diary Blog / Re: Remember Your Dreams
November 09, 2008, 07:50:32 PM
I rarely experience a dream, but most of my dreams are apocalyptic. Like there was a great war and we are chased by huge planes & chopper and were firing amunition, then there was a big plane tha crashed in front of our house. I also dreamed of some heavenly body that looks like a planet and it came near the earth. There was also a dream where another country attacked the Philippines the soldiers were in parachute and shooting every filipino on thier way and everyone were scrambled and running. Also there was one dream that China nuked us. Also there was one where I was in a building and there were 4 tornadoes that hit and all glass windows were ripped off and flying. All settings are in Bohol.

Since they are very rare, I can remember most of them.

Lorenzo, can you interpret my dreams?

Let there be light!
No rest for the river
Night without darkness
Is here forever
Come one, come all
Run away from the day
With no light anyway
Find rest in the river
Rest in peace in with river

GEC,

I miss twilight by the Loboc River,
the landscape with its water of blue color,
the sunset's gentle expression of rose,
pink, vermillion and cotton candy clouds
the rays reaches outward in strokes
as the cool wind rises, the sun sinks
and color flees into the delicate skies,
transforms from red hues into
darkness of boiling Stars & bulging Moon
Calm is the sound of sleeping river
and its orchestra of critters.

I look, I stare, I wonder,
as I lay lazy by my bamboo chair (lantay kawayan).

General Topic / Re: President Obama
November 08, 2008, 05:19:59 PM
Personally, I liked Obama because his life is an underdog drama. I am sure that big part of his heart belongs to minorities. I can see his being focused and organized through his campaigns. Other aspects: Harvard, our generation, close to Asian people, brilliant, not attached to big corporates, represents renaissance, Martin Luther King, social revolution, etc.

I first saw him two years back at a documentary for the poorest county in the US. That time, he had already the big ambition and started his campaign from the streets of his county while jogging and he joined outdoor basketball games with youths. He showed underprivilaged schools with damaged classroom facilities and discussed about solving youth violence and crime rate.

There is a new study about "Light Pollution" as per the cover page of National Geographic Magazine's November issue. Night without darkness causes emotional problems and anxiety to humans and alters migration/mating habits to animals.

Dire sa KSA, it was anounced that fuel prices will go down by Mid November. The previous price of SR0.65 will come down to SR0.45 x 12 = P5.40 pesos per liter ($0.12 cents per liter).

Also the King mandated that prices of all locally produced commodities will be reduced up to 50%. The royal family is very powerful here and they can close any company who violates by thier rules.

Hi Prescy. It is a spice of a relationship, but it should not resort to violence because we have the court created for peaceful settlement.

This is just a normal situation for Hollywood celebrities, but they will not resort to violence. Let their money do the talking.

God forbid, I will be forced perhaps to beat my wife for reason of stupidity, but out of Jealousy? You can not force a woman to love you if she don't.

Moreover, it is not ethical to beat someone weaker than you, this is bullying. Why won't this husband go find someone his size for a fight.

Fighting your wife in public is too scandalous and would hurt your children's self esteem. This is not right. We have the court to settle matters legally and peacefully.

Apan ang wala ma anticipate sa US is the counter strategy of oil importing countries. So instead of depending on oil, they switched to alternative bio fuel like ethanol from Sugarcane and Corn and diesel from palm oil.

Since wala na kaayo mo import sa oil, due to alternatives. OPEC was forced to increase the prices per barrel, just to compensate thier yearly projections. Thus the world price in oil sky rocketed.

In turn, this cause chain reactions to prices of commodities in the US, which created inflation and further caused people in the US to depend on thier credit card and to avail credit to pay another credit.

Since the borowers can not pay thier loans due to inflations, the insurance companies who catered the banks, got the exit wound and collapsed. This has caused Chaos now.

GALOC Oil diay ang name ani nga Oil, which is derived from a place in Palawan called Galoc oil fields.

Accordingly, as per the latest news, Philippine based Oil companies were given access to take sample of GALOC Oil. However, after testing, PETRON declared that their equipments are unable to refine this kind of oil. Their refineries are designed for Arabian type crude oil which is thicker in consistency.

Meanwhile, SHELL Co. declared that thier refineries could handle such type of Oil.

The question is, will the foreign Corporations who drilled the oil, sells it to Shell Phils.?

As per the press interview, the drilling company informed that it has yet to be decided by their board.

You see, since they have 60% of the oil share, they have most rights to decide where to sell the oil. Perhaps the approving comittee forgot thier patriotism during the signing of the contract due to SOP (under the table). For foreign companies, it is much cheaper to give a few millions to our officials to get their objectives. It is much easier and cheaper than to go through the right/legal procedure.

Actually, we have gone too out of topic on this thread, but the main point is that, there will be less corruption if we are under American rule.

Also why should Filipinos bother if we will become the 51st State? Since we will automatically become American Citizens, the logic would be America don't own us, "we own America" should that happen. Filipinos would automatically become part owner of USA.
#767
JEZ, the principle of credit card is you have to have a big loan first and pay it off. That is if you are aiming to avail a bigger loan. If you have a good credit score, you can easily avail bigger loan amount. But of course, you have to pay it off, otherwise the interest will get bigger and bigger by time.

The main cause of this credit crunch is the lack of understanding of the mechanics of credit in the USA. Most of the borrowers who failed are imigrants who does not have the capacity to pay and who does not have the full understanding of american credit system.

In addition, Philippines was the richest country during the Spanish occupation due to the tobacco monopoly and the Acapulco Trade.

There are even places in Acapulco with residents that looks like Filipinos. They were probably the Filipino sailors and labors who stayed for good.

They are very rich in OIL..why would they buy one from Palawan.. nganu magpakalouy man cla?  kagamay ra sa OIL makuha sa Palawan compared to the OIL being produced by OPEC members..

Thanks Lorenzo, this is very informative.

I never thought Andalusia would become as modern as what I saw from your post. Most of their old architechture is still preserved and mixed in contrast to new technology.

What I thought of Andalusia is a medieval town like old cities in Italy. Because from our history lesson, Andalusia was the frontline of the Holy Crussade where Morrocans fought with the Christian north. So, I thought of Medieval with Castles, horses and nights.

What I knew also is that thier main produce are Olives and orchard. I wonder why the Spaniards did not brought Olives to the Philippines. Maybe our climate is not suitable for its growth. It is one of the most expensive oil.

Actually, most of Bohol Towns were named after Spanish towns and names like:
- Sevilla = Seville
- Cortes = Cortez
- Albur = Alburquerqe
- Velencia = Valencia
- Bilar - Basque town of Bilar
- Duero - Duero is a Spanish family name
- Carmen - Carmen
- Trinidad
- Etc.

I have a doubt that Anda was derived from Andalusia. Like Albur was derived from Alburquerque.

How about THE LAST MARRIED POPE?

He was Adrian II (867-872). Actually he was married before he ascended the papal throne, but after being elected pontiff, he refused to adopt celibacy or renounce his family. His wife, Stephania, and their daughter lived in the Lateran Palace with him for a short time. Later, one of his chief rivals abducted his daughter and married her by force. Many previous popes had been happily married. In fact, Pope Hormisdas (514-523) was the proud father of Pope Silverius (536-538). Although Adrian (or Hadrian, as he is sometimes called) was the last to marry, subsequent popes fathered numerous children.

Sir Felix,

Let me explain.

Perhaps SEC is full of personnel who doesn't have knowledge in economy 101. One proof of it is the recently drilled Oil in Palawan where 60% of it's proceeds will go to the financiers who are foreign owned, 30% will go to the Philippine Government and 10% will go to the contractors. Naunsa na man ni oi. Nabali na man ang Policy, imbis nga 60% Filipino ownership and 40% Foreign. Since, foreign ownership is 60% so they are the ones who decide where the oil will be sold, which is most probably to China being the most energy hungry nation in Asia. I heared the news nga ang OPEC aw PNOC diay (corrected sorry) mura pa ug nagpakilimos nga mihangyo nga baligyaan unta sa Oil nga gi drill sa Palawan, apan gi tubag sa mga owner sa corporation nga we will decide that matter. What? Na unsa na man ni oi!

Secondly, mas daghan pa ang atong import compared sa atong export, so in the long run, nagka gamay ang atong ekonomiya, nagkapobre ang Pilipinas due to Globalization.

He is a trapped criminal, grabbing the last resort which is public sympathy.

Ubusan nang Lahi? I don't understand his logic. We are all Filipinos.

If this man is brave, he should have attacked and claimed Sabah Malaysia, instead of making trouble in his own land.

Sabah Malaysia is ours. Let us not waste time, bullets and blood killing each other in Mindanao. It should be one bullet for every Malaysian soldier.

It should be ubusan nang lahing Malaysian in Sabah by driving away Malaysian race and establish our flag in Sabah.

i dotn know how true, but ang nakpait lang Mack wla kay freedom of religion sa Saudi. tinuod ba nga dli daw ka pwede mangadye dra .. dakpon daw ka kun makit-an?

Mao lagi BNC, lisod kaayo dire. Mabuhi man unta ang imong lawas, apan patay ang imong kalag.

Kung makit-an ka nga magdala ug Bible, Rosary or any religious picture, ang punishment deportation.

Since namatay si King Fahad, nagpadala ang Pope ug representatives to Mecca to attend the burrial. Since then, the relations of Muslims and Catholics developed.

So, when Pope John Paul died, the new King of Saudi King Abdullah, the brother of late King Fahad went to Rome to be the representative of one of the seven Churches.

When Pope John Paul II died, he fulfilled his duty to unite the 7 Churches as mentioned in the New Testament because all representatives of the 7 Churches including Islamic, Orthodox, Protestant, Evangelical were there during the burial rights. He was the 1st Pope to unite the 7 churches with 100% attendance, but during his death.

After that, there were rumors that King Abdullah used to visit the Pope during his diplomatic trips to Europe and they become good friends.

Also a rumor spread from the Physical therapist of King Abdullah who is a Filipino that there is a plan to legalize Christianity in selected parts of Saudi Arabia where Churches for Catholics and Chapels for Protestants are allowed.

In my place called Al Khobar, there is a secret Catholic and protestant Church inside Aramco. Once the law is passed, this will be opened to the public. Like in Dubai, Bahrain and other Islamic countries where there is an open Church for Christians.

Actually, Saudi is a very holy place for us Christians because Mecca is where Abraham performed sacrificial lamb instead of his son. Also Mt. Sinai is found there.

Also, for the Muslims, Jerusalem is one of the 3 places they have to visit when they perform thier pilgrimage or Haj, but now it is controlled by the Jews and they can not come there. There is a building there where Muslims believed the location of the manger where Jesus was born. Half of the building is a Mosque for Muslims and half is a Church. This is the only building where christians and muslims pray together. Actually, Jerusalem was derived from the Arabic word Dar Al Salam, means House of Peace.

So I don't understand why Christians and Muslims are fighting in Mindanao. Infact, both are the closest Religion with very little difference in terms of teaching.

There were controversies weather Bohol Republic was formed during the time of Dagohoy or it was during the Filipino - American War when American forces took over after the Spanish-American mock war when Spain sold us to the Americans.

Nevertheless, should Bohol Republic had formed, we would be the second country within a country if I'm not mistaken.

Bahin sa Food, kadaghanan man gud sa food sa developed nga countries mga frozen na ug dili na organic, I mean mga gulay ug fruits. About fish, I agree, daghang salmon diha sa Canada, but mo prefer ko ug gulay nga tropical sama sa Kamonggay, ganas ug uban pa.

So, mas lami gyud nang pareha anang picture ni Kiams nga fresh from the farm.

I am a sensitive person, but I keep my cool at all times. I believe that there is a proper place for everything.

As much as possible I want to maintain the image and composure that I want to show in public. I hold myself not to be carried away by any situation and become hysterical, crying, overlaughing, angry, etc. to the crowd I do not know. I show my real emotions only to my real friends.

That means if you saw me crying, you are something special to me.

Hi Mga Barkadaz,

Daghan na kaayo activities for closing of the year.

When I opened TB, I was so impressed with the pictures posted by Kiams (Thanks). It is very relaxing.

Ikaduha nakong reason, mitukar akong pagka kandingon kay ang temperature didto sa summer is 20 Centegrade which is like December early dawn sa atoa. Ika tulo, ang pagkaon didto walay fresh puro dilata up mga import ug walay rice. Basin mo tambok ko ug mao ra akong kamatyan.

Since stable pa man pod ang akong living, dire lang una ko sa mainit nga lugar, pero OK lang kay walay tax dire ug dili mi apektado sa recession. Mao lang gihapon ang presyo before the recession, barato ang isda (P250 usa ka sako) ug mibarato pa ang gasolina.

Regards ninyo diha.

Being a public figure who commited such crime is unforgivable. It is better to free 10 murderers who are ordinary person.

There is an on-going petition for President Gloria Arroyo to call back the pardon.

I will personally sign in that petition.

I will check if there is an on-line link for that.

Ngano man gud nga giwala man ang death penalty sa atong law?

Over populated man unta ta, nganong mahadlok man atong gobyerno mo impose ug death penalty?

Due to the "R" word, many companies in the US are finding other alternatives to meet thier projections. Asia is one of them.

Since we are in both ways affected by the USR, anything that we sell is discounted and our negotiators can not bargain. It is easy to bribe someone who is not financially fit.

The elders are right. Why explore underneath if the fertile soil above is already a God given treasure.

Look at the Palawan Oil, there is no way it solves our oil crisis. The financiers of the drilling projects, which are international companies will sell it to the country they want. Most probably to China. The Philippine Government tried their best to negotiate with this company that it will be sold to Philippines (PNOC). The price of that oil is only USD85/barrel compared to USD140/barrel in the Middle East.

As per my latest information, the oil will be sold by the drilling company and proceeds shall be 60% for the oil companies, 30% for the Philippine Government and 10% for the Contractors.

Personally, I can not tolerate the same administration to handle Benguet Mineral Exploration. Moreover, I can not tolerate the oil drilling in Cebu-Bohol strait to happen.

As I mentioned in my last year's post, the US economy will plunge further when election is aproaching due to uncertainty of investors. Stock market is almost freezed and if there is any activity it should be conservative.

However, it will start to pick-up after the results as business factions will also start to form. Confidence of investors to the new administration will pick up at exponential rates. At that time, the US economy is expected to bounce back which is expected during the 1st Quarter and with a peak during 2nd Quarter of this year. Normally, the 3rd Quarter is the slowest due to summer holidays and it is the deciding point or planning stage and market is still full due to the peak of quarter 2; hence, there is a slow down of investments worldwide.

Hence, if you are a stock market investor, you should not sleep during the early days of 1st quarter as it is the deciding point where stocks are still cheap and if you are lucky, you can be a millionaire overnight.

I heared the news today that the Philippine stocks market experienced its biggest loss in 20 years. It is very clear that Asian Economy is both directly and indirectly linked to the US Economy.

Kana bitaw Sweepstakes nga sugal man na pero tagsa ra mamalit kay legal man.

Naay different level of risk/chances ang kada sugal like Buwang is 1:2, Mahjong is 1:4 ang Lottery 1:999 ug mas grabe ang sweepstakes kay 1:1million (bale kon mo palit ka ug ticket sa sweepstakes, isipa na lang nga imo nang gi hatag).

I don't get it. Why will the BPO's increase in the Philippines if the US (biggest outsourcing country) has alredy slowed down.

If true, this indication is very dangerous to our Economy.

It means that the European Exporters to the US is diverting it's exports/shipments to Asian Markets including the Philippines. This is to keep their annual projections.

Please note that at this point, we do not need to import, we need to export. We need gains. We need to sell.

I think the Europens are making BPO's as lures so that our government will eat the bait and open our market to buy thier surplus export due to US recession.

Once again we are being fried with our own oil.

It seems that business is booming because BPO jobs are opening, but they need it to service the imported goods from Europe to sell to "Filipino Buyers". As you can see, European Exporters are doing this for thier own advantage and our Economist are fooled by thier tactics. Perhaps they knew (what is the use of years of schooling), but perhaps thier pockets are happy.

Based on human logic, it is easy to link the following facts:

1. Claudio Teehankee Sr. is the late father of Claudio Teehankee Jr.
2. Claudio Teehankee Sr. is the 16th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines who served from April 2, 1986 â€" April 17, 1988
3. It was President Corazon Aquino who appointed Claudio Teehankee Sr. after the fall of the Marcos Regime. They should have close ties with the Aquino family until present, being administered the oath of office of President Aquino, two hours before Marcos version of the presidential oath-taking at Malacanang at noon of February 25, 1986.
4. Presently, former President Corazon Aquino is not at good terms with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
5. Election fever is coming.

Why pardon now? Did you see the connection?

The Analysis of Artifacts Recovered from a Metal Age Burial Site in District Ubujan, Tagbilaran City, Bohol

Information Obtained from: http://www.bohol-archaeology.com

In August 1998 a Metal Age burial site was discovered during a construction project in District Ubujan, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Central Philippines (See Map). The site was destroyed but many of the artifacts were recovered and donated to the provincial museum in Tagbilaran City. This included over 1800 earthenware sherds, 78 earthenware vessels, 130 glass beads, 31 fragments of iron tools, 96 human teeth, and a few glass bracelets and shell and stone artifacts.

In 2000, an extensive analysis was undertaken of these artifacts.  This analysis has provided important information on early trade, technology and traditions in the region. It has revealed that Bohol was an active participant in a regional network of maritime trade during the Metal Age. Numerous foreign goods reached the island including iron tools and glass beads. There was also an active trade in locally or regionally produced Sa-Huyhn Kalanay earthenwares. Furthermore, an analysis of the quantity, quality and variety of grave goods, as well as the type of internment, suggests an overall trend towards variation and elaboration of burial traditions. These results correlate with finding from other Metal Age sites in the Philippines and will provide important data for future comparative studies.

Following is a summary of the analysis which includes: a description of the site; the methodologies used in this analysis; the results of the analysis; and some of the preliminary conclusions.

THE ISLAND OF BOHOL/SITE DESCRIPTION
Bohol is the 10th largest island in the Philippines with a landmass of approximately 4117 sq. km. It is located in the southern part of the Visayan group of islands, with the island of Cebu to the northwest, Leyte to the northeast, and Mindanao to the south (See Map 2). Geologically, much of the island is dominated by limestone, and the southern coastline is fringed by extensive coral reefs and mangroves. The terrain varies significantly with broad valleys and low rolling hills in the north, and more pronounced mountainous terrain dissected by deep gulleys and gorges in the south.

The burial site was located in a small rock shelter on the southwestern coast of Bohol in the Sitio of Kabisi, District of Ubujan, Tagbilaran City  (See Map 3). This region contains extensive underground caverns, and an irregular coastline with steep, rocky cliffs. The rock shelter was situated adjacent to the coastline at an elevation of approximately 5 meters above sea-level.
The burial site was discovered in August 1998 during a construction project on the private property of Mr. & Mrs. Günter Gutknecht. The site was unearthed by laborers hired to construct a swimming pool at their private residence. Unaware of its significance, most of the site was destroyed by the laborers before the property owner was able to halt construction. As a result, the stratigraphy and context of the burial and artifacts were not recorded, but many of the artifacts were recovered and subsequently donated to the local museum where they are currently on display and stored.

METHODOLOGY
The analysis of the artifacts took place over a three-month period at the Bohol Museum in Tagbilaran City. A detailed inventory was taken of all the recovered artifacts. The majority of the collection consisted of low-fired earthenware sherds. Many of these sherds were large in size and showed fresh breaks as if the vessels were broken during removal from the burial; as a result, some vessels were able to be partially or almost fully reconstructed to their original form. The remaining earthenware sherds were counted, measured, weighed and classified based on stylistic and technological attributes such as sherd type, form, color and firing characteristics. Descriptive-stylistic attributes were based on traits defined by Solheim (1964) and expanded upon by Flavel (1997). Technological attributes were based primarily on classifications developed by Junker (1982).

The 130 glass beads were measured and classified by color, size, form and technology. The form and technological classifications were based on typologies developed by Santiago and Francis (Francis 1989a, 1989b, 1990a, 1990b). The metal tools were classified solely by form. Classifications were based on indigenous tool types, i.e., contemporary local tool forms. Due to the small quantity of shell and stone artifacts, no typological classifications were undertaken on these materials. Some basic data were also collected on the recovered human teeth.
In addition, one of the laborers who unearthed the burial(s) was interviewed to obtain some descriptive information on the stratigraphy and placement of the artifacts in relation to the skeletal remains at the site.

Finally, a comparative approach was used to understand the significance of the artifacts and site within a larger regional context. Published and unpublished research and site reports were reviewed, and numerous museum collections were cross-referenced.

RESULTS OF ANALYSIS
The inventory of artifacts indicates that the site dates to the Metal Age (400 BC - AD 900). The earthenware forms and styles, as well as the glass beads, bracelets and iron tools are all contemporary to items recovered from other Metal Age sites in the region. Additionally, it lacks any evidence of stonewares or porcelains, which if present, would indicate that the site dates to a later age.

The laborer who was interviewed provided valuable information on the layout of the site. According to him, the human burial was discovered at a depth of about 1 meter and the skeletal remains were surrounded by earthenware pots, glass beads, metal tools, and human teeth. These artifacts appeared to be placed in specific groups. For example, the iron tools were grouped near the feet, most of the pots were located at the right side of the body, and the footed vessels were located above the head. Somewhat deeper, at what may have been another cultural level, a few additional artifacts were recovered, including a few more earthenware vessels, glass beads and human teeth. This suggests that most of the artifacts were contemporary, but some may have dated to a slightly earlier period.

Due to the destruction of the site, it is not clear how many burials were represented, but we know that there was at least one extended burial and probably some associated jar burials. This interpretation is based on the recovery of the skeleton of an adult as well as human teeth from individuals as young as 3-4 years old up to adult. Some of the jars were probably used for burials, as secondary jar burials were a common practice in this region at the time, and teeth were commonly interred as part of this ritual.

Similar artifact types are found in other Metal Age burial sites throughout the Philippines, most notably, similar pottery forms and styles. These common elements include round-bottomed pots with carinations (angles), and bowls on ring feet or pedestals, often with cut-outs and perforations. The lips of vessels are also sometimes scalloped or notched. These are all stylistic and decorative elements of the Sa-Huynh Kalanay pottery tradition. Elements of this tradition are also noted throughout many areas of Island Southeast Asia suggesting that there was a widespread pottery industry and trade network at the time. A preliminary petrographic analysis of a small sample of the recovered sherds further confirms this interpretation.  It appears as if a wide variety of clay sources were being utilized, originating from different geographic sources.  A more detailed petrographic analysis may be able to help identify more precisely the geological origin of the clay sources and/or origin of the pots.

Several unique vessels were noted which may indicate a local tradition or the work of an individual potter. One was a small flat-bottomed, narrowed-mouth jarlet, approximately 10 cm high, and with a mouth diameter of 2.1 cm.  There were also two quadrapods (four-legged vessels), which are only documented from one other site in the Philippines, the Kalanay site in Masbate (Solheim 1964). Quadrapods have also been sporadically noted at other Southeast Asia sites, e.g., in Sulawesi (Callenfels 1951).

Some other important artifacts at the site included iron tools, glass beads and two fragments of glass bracelets. The beads were all monochrome, predominately red and yellow. They were manufactured using two different technologies; some were wound and some were drawn. Drawn beads are generally identified as being manufactured in the Indo-Pacific region, while wound beads are usually identified as Chinese (Francis 1990a, 1990b). One bead that stood out in the collection was a 14-sided opaque orange glass bead, 10 millimeters in diameter. It may have been modeled after the more common faceted carnelian beads from India. Similar glass beads have been noted in other areas of Southeast Asia, such as the site Oc-Eo in Vietnam (Malleret 1951), but overall, they are relatively rare.

The glass bracelet fragments are triangular in cross-section. One fragment is an opaque orange glass, and the other an opaque brick-red. Similar bracelet forms are known from Cambodia, Vietnam and Taiwan. The metal tools were made of iron, and included forms that resembled knives, daggers, chisels and bolos.

In summary, the inventory of artifacts included 78 earthenware vessels, over 1800 sherds, 130 glass beads, 31 iron implements, 96 human teeth, 2 fragments of glass bracelets, a few shell and stone artifacts, and some fragmented osteological remains.

It does not necessarily mean that to serve God wholeheartedly is to become celibate. But based on real facts, it is humanly impossible to perform the task as a priest if he is having a family. I will give you an example: If there is a female choir who needs to practice at early dawn, would the wife allow her husband if she is a jealous type?

Another example is the priest who became a martyr in East Timor. At the time of the seige, any married human being would have second thoughts of running for the sake of his family instead of choosing to die as a martyr.

That's why it is a personal vow for only one reason and that is to physically serve the church full time.

Lorenzo, kindly explain how some geniuses like Stephen Hawkings with a deteriorated physical state managed to maintain his brilliant theories and equation of the universe despite his near vegetative condition.

I remembered a movie about Adolf Hitler's clones, I forgot the title, it sounds like The 5th Protocol or something. Where, 5 clones of Adolf Hitler were raised in different environment. Their differ intellectually but have common character traits, like they have strong determination. Also they end the lives of their pets who does not meet thier expectations. That was an old movie when I was in high school. This movie tells that character traits are in the gene.
