A doctor died while two other sustained minor injuries in a vehicular accident early Wednesday morning at the Archbishop Reyes flyover in Barangay (village) Luz, Cebu City.

Dr. Alan Yu, 60 of #3 Yucca Road, Rosario Heights, Bacolod City, was declared dead on arrival at the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City, traffic investigator Police Officer 3 Wilfredo Caperida said.

Caperida, who was driving his maroon Mitsubishi Adventure with plate number FFH 464, was coming from Barangay (village) Talamban area and was going towards uptown Cebu City when he was hit by a taxicab coming from the opposite direction at past 6 a.m.

Driver Polares Gonimil, 44, of Buhisan, with passenger Reshyl Timtim, 23, both sustained minor injuries.

Caperida confirmed that Gonimil, who was driving a taxi with the marking "RD-SAMC," was at fault since the vehicle he was driving had encroached on the opposite lane and had bumped the side of the front portion of Yu’s vehicle.

Caperida said Gonimil claimed that he accidentally swerved towards the opposite lane. However, Caperida believed that the taxi driver was running at high speed.

Bwahaha! Nganong naapil man ang traffic investigator sa aksidente?  ;D

GMANews.TV - Thursday, February 17

Vice President Jejomar Binay will fly to China on Thursday in a last-ditch try to appeal to the Chinese government to commute the death sentence on three Filipinos convicted for drug trafficking. In a report on QTV's "News on Q", Binay said he has been asked by President Benigno Aquino III to make the appeal on behalf of the Philippine government, in the hope that the three convicts are given a two-year reprieve and their death sentence eventually reduced to just life imprisonment based on Chinese law. Binay also visited the families of the three Filipinos, also at Aquino’s behest, but he was only able to talk with the relatives of Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, one of the two women sentenced to death.

According to Binay, the President wanted to know how the families are coping with the situation, and asked him to assure them that the government is doing what it can to save the three. “Nababagabag rin ho si Pangulo rito (The President is also quite worried about this)," Binay said in the GMA newscast. He noted that Aquino had already written the Chinese government to appeal the case of the three Filipinos, and that he (Aquino) likewise personally mentioned it to Chinese President Hu Jintao when they met during last year’s ASEAN conference. “Hindi ho nagkulang ang pamahalaan na tulungan sila sa kanilang depensa, sa pakikipag-usap [The government did not fall short in helping them with their defense and with negotiating with the government]," Binay added.

Last Friday, the Philippine government tried to set up a phone conversation with Chinese President Hu Jintao to appeal for a commutation of the death sentence, but the Chinese government has yet to accept the call. (See: Chinese Embassy: Court sustains death sentence on 3 Pinoys) Earlier on Wednesday, Villanueva’s mother and brother went to Binay’s office to seek prepare for their trip to China to visit her. They maintained that Villanueva was framed up, and that she was not aware that the bag, which she claimed her agency asked to bring to China in 2008, contained illegal drugs. Villanueva, 32, was convicted for smuggling 4,110 grams of heroin on December 24, 2008 in Xiamen.

The two other Filipinos facing the death penalty are:Ramon Credo, 42, who was convicted for smuggling 4,113 grams of heroin on December 28, 2008, also in Xiamen; and Elizabeth Batain, 38, who was convicted for smuggling 6,800 grams of heroin on May 24, 2008, in Shenzhen. Shenzhen and Xiamen are two of the most important entry points for Filipinos traveling from Manila to destinations in mainland China.

China: 'We follow strict judicial process'

Earlier also, the Chinese Embassy in Manila reiterated that the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) of China has sustained the death sentence on the three Filipinos after a thorough judicial review. (See: Chinese Embassy: Court sustains death sentence on 3 Pinoys)

In a press statement, the embassy said, "The death sentence on the three Filipino drug traffickers is the final verdict by the Chinese judicial authorities in accordance with law. As criminals of death penalty, their legitimate rights and interests have been protected in accordance with law."

"China follows strict judicial procedures in applying death penalty," it added, and went on to explain the lengthy process which is supposed to ensure that all the legal rights of the accused are respected.

The Embassy statement reassured the convicts’ relatives that China is ready to assist them should they want to visit the three.

For its part, the DFA said that while it will do whatever is still possible to save the lives of the three Filipinos, their death sentence should likewise serve as a wake-up call for overseas-bound Filipinos against becoming unwitting drug couriers. (See: PHL govt makes last-ditch effort to save 3 Pinoys on death row in China)

DFA: 208 Pinoy drug cases in China

This page requires a higher version browser DFA spokesperson Ed Malaya reminded Filipinos abroad not to agree to carrying other people’s baggage, especially if they had just met the person at the airport or online. “Our people must take full responsibility for their actions by being on guard," he said.

If the executions push through, Malaya said this will be the first time that Filipinos are executed in China for drug-related offenses.

According to the DFA, there are 208 drug-related cases in China at present. Around 36 of the jailed Filipinos were meted with life sentences while 72 others were given fixed-term imprisonment. About 19 cases are still pending.

Malaya noted that 72 Filipinos involved in earlier drug-related cases have been given two-year reprieves.

According to China’s laws, if the convict shows good behavior within the two-year period, the sentence is automatically committed to life imprisonment.â€"Jerrie M. Abella/JV, GMA News

Wife stabs husband who refused to date her on Valentine’s Dayâ€"police

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippinesâ€"For repeatedly turning down her request for a date on Valentine's Day, an angry and frustrated wife stabbed her husband on Monday afternoon, the police said Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, acting city police director, said that before the day of hearts, Fatima Tebeng, 27, had told her husband that they would be out on a date on Monday.

Jamal Tebeng, 30, agreed to his wife's wish.

Ocampo said that on Monday, Fatima made several calls to Jamal, who was then at the office, and reminded him about their date.

He said the wife felt rejected when Jamal could not commit to the date, citing his work.

“The husband said he was busy and he couldn't leave his paper work,” De Ocampo said.

In an attempt to convince her husband for the last time, Fatima decided to personally see Jamal at his office, De Ocampo said.

“Their house is on Claveria Street, which is just a walking distance to the office along Pilar Street,” he said.

But to her dismay when she got there, Fatima was told her husband had already left.

De Ocampo said Fatima had suspected that her husband went out early to date another woman.

He said Jamal's co-workers told investigators she appeared restless and frustrated upon knowing her husband was not in the office.

“They called up Jamal on the phone and asked him to go back to the office,” De Ocampo said.

When the couple crossed path, Fatima stabbed her husband with a bladed weapon and wounded him on the chest.

“He was rushed to the nearby Children's Hospital and is already in stable condition,” De Ocampo said.

He said the couple settled their differences but did know whether or not their Valentine's date pushed through.

I dreamt I was on this giant wooden pirate ship sailing across the ocean and on this ship were all these old, dead famous people (like Shakespeare, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin). At one point on our epic journey it started to storm really badly. It got worse and worse until Benjamin Franklin finally got up and said “Everyone! There’s no hope for us! We’re not going to make it! For the sake of humanity- YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!!” and everyone was like “YES SIR!!” and I was standing there like “whaaat..?”

But anyways, everyone on the ship started whipping out these old Cello cases and stuffing themselves into them and throwing themselves overboard.I started panicking because I’d FORGOTTEN my cello case, so I went over to Shakespeare and, right as he was going to hop in his, I shoved him over the edge of the ship. When he looked up in the midst of his falling and said “Et tu, Brute?”, I woke up.

History / London Beer Flood
February 16, 2011, 08:44:33 PM

On October 16, 1814, a vat of beer at London’s Meux and Company Brewery cracked open. Beer gushed out, causing yet another vat to open. The result was 550,000 gallons (or 4.4 million pints) of beer pouring through the streets of London. The wave of beer destroyed two homes and crumbled the wall of the Tavistock Arms Pub, trapping teenaged employee Eleanor Cooper under the rubble. The brewery was located among the poor houses and tenements of the St Giles Rookery, where whole families lived in basement rooms that quickly filled with beer. Eight people drowned in the flood. The disaster was ruled to be an act of God.

Last week's rounds of raids exposed the method of consignment deal in illegal drug retail as confessed by a 63-year-old mother caught red-handed in barangay Badiang, Inabanga.

One Pia Tacatani, 63, claimed to be just a passive retailer wherein a supplier delivers the packs of shabu to her house and only pays them when already sold.

She said young users in the neighborhood just go to her house to buy shabu and she only earned from the mark-up and disclosed that the supplier just hangs around the barangay to corner the business.

The police team even found some packs of shabu placed on a saucer with strips of tinfoil that are known paraphernalia in shabu pot session.

Some of the sachets of shabu were found beneath a Sto. Niño statue on her makeshift praying table.

Mora ra diayg namaligyag kendi...  :P

Bangsi was sold at P65 per kilo in Dumaguete City that day, while it was just P40 per kilo in Cebu. But it reached P120 per kilo in Candijay, and Garcia-Hernandez and P100 per kilo in Tubigon.

Hmm, buot ba kaha ipasabot ani nga mas hilig og bangsi ang Bol-anon kaysa Cebuano o Negrense?
