Thank you for sharing your most illustrious career in biblical study. Unbeknownst to you, my little dear, is that I attended a prestigious private college in the United States. In my stay as a Molecular Biology & European History double major (while under the competitive pre-medical track), i managed to minor in religious studies. I studied the Q'uran for 2 whole semesters, 1 semester on Intensive Middle Eastern History, as well as 1 Semester on Christian Historiography, 1 semester on comparative religious text (bible, tanakh, and the q'uran), let alone was an active member on our Collegiate Catholic Newman's Society (a collegiate body that focused on catholic study, as well as intensive biblical study).

I may be a 'plebe', but I dare say, you should watch your mouth in your comparatives, little lady.

I was also humbly selected as a Collegiate Trustees Scholar (through my humble knowledge in things, was awarded a scholarship of over $35,000 + an additional $ 75,000;  then selected as one of 15 students out of a list of 500 to attend a study abroad program in the Ukraine..which was based on one's GPA and academic standing). But of course, a person of little knowledge like me cannot compare, dare i even blink, to the likes of you....

Pathetic...  :'(

The Philippine Medical Association has asked Aquino to be the 'driving force' behind an effective implementation of the country's anti-smoking commitments with the World Health Organization.

The group said Aquino should do this as part of his duty to safeguard the health of Filipinos, especially young people.

This move on the part of the Philippine Medical Association smacks of malice, to say the least.

Manila - Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, a known heavy smoker, on Monday declined calls for him to become the poster boy for the country's anti-smoking campaign.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Aquino was already cutting back on the number of cigarettes he consumes daily, but was not ready to give up the habit.

'I think it's unfair for them to ask the president to be the anti-smoking poster boy, knowing that the person smokes to de-stress himself,' he said.

'This is a very stressful job, so let's allow the president some way of de-stressing,' he added. 'He still plans to cut down on smoking. Let's leave it at that.'

The Philippine Medical Association has asked Aquino to be the 'driving force' behind an effective implementation of the country's anti-smoking commitments with the World Health Organization.

What can I say but I am sorry,
I apologize for what I do to you,
my daily ruthlessness and cruelty.
What can I do but ask for your forgiveness
and your patience. For someday,
I promise you, someday I swear
on the beards of the prophets
and on the beard of the poet Whitman and
on the beard of the president Lincoln,
I will not stop you any longer,
I will let you go free, I will take down
the fence around you made of sharp blades.
For someday, I promise you, I will let
you run wild through the valleys
of my face like a stallion, I will let you
wander over the desert of my face
like a holy man in his vision of heaven
and hell, I will let you grow, blossom
and flourish, and I will stroke you
and comb you and keep you orderly
and free of knots and tangles,
and you in turn will make me look
distinguished, a wise old man as I stroke
you looking serious, looking as though
I were thinking deep thoughts about
life and death. But I will be thinking
only about you, my beard, my second face,
and this will be our secret.

"Christian attitudes to suicide : In the past, the Church taught that suicide was a serious sin; suicides were not allowed a Christian funeral, or buried in holy ground. Survivors were severely punished. They believed it showed a deliberate rejection of God’s gift of life.

Today, the Church has changed. Much more is known about depression, stress, grief and other causes of suicide. Instead of condemning victims, the Church tries to understand, and support the relatives. Most Christians believe it is wrong to commit suicide, but understand why people try it. The right response to suicide is to be loving and forgiving. People should be helped, not condemned."

The Big Necessity
The Unmentionable World of Human Waste and Why It Matter
s
Rose George

Holt Paperbacks, July 2009
ISBN: 978-0-8050-9083-3, ISBN10: 0-8050-9083-5,
5 1/4 x 8 inches, 304 pages

"One smart book . . . delving deep into the history and implications of a daily act that dare not speak its name." â€"Newsweek

Acclaimed as “extraordinary” (The New York Times) and “a classic” (Los Angeles Times), The Big Necessity is on its way to removing the taboo on bodily wasteâ€"something common to all and as natural as breathing. We prefer not to talk about it, but we shouldâ€"even those of us who take care of our business in pristine, sanitary conditions. Disease spread by waste kills more people worldwide every year than any other single cause of death. Even in America, nearly two million people have no access to an indoor toilet. Yet the subject remains unmentionable.

Moving from the underground sewers of Paris, London, and New York (an infrastructure disaster waiting to happen) to an Indian slum where ten toilets are shared by 60,000 people, The Big Necessity breaks the silence, revealing everything that matters about how people doâ€"and don’tâ€"deal with their own waste. With razor-sharp wit and crusading urgency, mixing levity with gravity, Rose George has turned the subject we like to avoid into a cause with the most serious of consequences.

Science and Research / The Importance of Human Waste
February 21, 2011, 01:55:30 PM
First I establish that I am no scatologist, fetishist, or coprophagist. I don't much like toilet humor (and by now I've heard a lot of it). I don't think 2.6 billion people without a toilet is funny. Then I tailor my answers and language to the social situationâ€"still managing to spoil many lunchesâ€"by explaining the obvious. Everyone does it. It's as natural as breathing. The average human being spends three years of life going to the toilet, though the average human being with no physical toilet to go to probably does his or her best to spend less. It is a human behavior that is as revealing as any other about human nature, but only if it can be released from the social straitjacket of nicety. Rules governing defecation, hygiene, and pollution exist in every culture at every period in history.

It may in fact be the foundation of civilization: What is toilet training if not the first attempt to turn a child into an acceptable member of society? Appropriateness and propriety begin with a potty. From this comes the common claim, usually from sanitation activists, that the toilet is the barometer of civilization. How a society disposes of its human excrement is an indication of how it treats its humans, too. Unlike other body-related functions like dance, drama, and songs, wrote the Indian sanitarian Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, "defecation is very lowly." Yet when discussing it, he continued, "one ends up discussing the whole spectrum of human behavior, national economy, politics, role of media, cultural preference and so forth." And that's a partial list. It is missing biology, psychology, chemistry, language. It is missing everything that touches upon understanding what the development academic William Cummings called "the lonely bewilderment of bodily functions."

If my questioner is religious, I say that all the world's great faiths instruct their followers how best to manage their excrement, because hygiene is holy. I explain that taking an interest in the culture of sanitation puts them in good company. Mohandas K. Gandhi, though he spent his life working towards ridding India of its colonial rulers, nonetheless declared that sanitation was more important than independence. The great architect Le Corbusier considered it to be "one of the most beautiful objects industry has ever invented"; and Rudyard Kipling found sewers more compelling than literature. Drains are "a great and glorious thing," he wrote in 1886, "and I study 'em and write about 'em when I can." A decent primer on sanitary engineering, he wrote, "is worth more than all the tomes of sacred smut ever produced." Anton Chekhov was moved to write about the dreadful sanitation in the far-Eastern Russian isle of Sakhalin. And Sigmund Freud thought the study of excretion essential and its neglect a stupidity. In his foreword to The Scatologic Rites of All Nations, an impressive ethnography of excrement by the amateur anthropologistâ€"and U.S. army captainâ€"John Bourke, Freud wrote that "to make [the role of excretions in human life] more accessible ... is not only a courageous but also a meritorious undertaking."

If the cultural standing of excrement doesn't convince them, I say that the material itself is as rich as oil and probably more useful. It contains nitrogen and phosphates, which can make plants grow but also suck the life from water because its nutrients absorb available oxygen. It can be both food and poison. It can contaminate and cultivate. Millions of people cook with gas made by fermenting it. I tell them I don't like to call it "waste," when it can be turned into bricks, when it can make roads or jewelry, and when, in a dried powdered form called poudrette, it was sniffed like snuff by the grandest ladies of the 18th-century French court. Medical men of not too long ago thought stool examination a vital diagnostic tool. (London's Wellcome Library holds a 150-year-old engraving of a doctor examining a bedpan and a sarcastic maid asking him whether he'd like a fork.) They were also fond of prescribing it: Excrement could be eaten, drunk, or liberally applied to the skin. Martin Luther was convinced: he reportedly ate a spoonful of his own excrement daily, and wrote that he couldn't understand the generosity of a God who freely gave such important and useful remedies.

take heart.  the human figure and its bones and innards are at least studied closely, and the study renders some students speechless at the beginning. ;D

Hmm, I'm sure one encounters epizeuxis among the bones and symploce in the entrails, among others...  ;D

Weird and Extreme / Grasshopper has biggest testicles
February 21, 2011, 12:14:22 PM

It kind of makes you wonder how they hop with those things.

U.K. researchers have determined the bushcricket is the animal with the largest testicles in relation to its body weight.

The species of grasshopper's testicles make up 14% of its body weight, researchers at the University of Derby have found.

However, the study also discovered they produce less sperm than those with regular-sized testicles.

"We couldn't believe the size of these organs," lead researcher Dr. Karim Vahed said. "They seemed to fill the entire abdomen."

In comparison, the testicles of a fruit fly make up 10.6% of its body weight.

Vahed said the "extra large testes" allow the male bushcricket to transfer relatively small ejaculates to a greater number of females. Female bushcrickets mate with up to 23 different males during their two-month adult life.

"Males don't put all their eggs --or rather sperm -- in one basket," Vahed said.

Ditty to lift our morale

By CHARLOTTE SPRATT

THERE are several versions of "Hitler has only got one ball" - sung to the tune of The Colonel Bogey March.

It is thought that it was first written in August 1939 as propaganda against the Nazis.

Writer Donough O'Brien claimed in his autobiography that his father Toby O'Brien had invented the ditty while working as a publicist for the British Council. He said he was trying to improve British morale with a song against the German leader.

That version began: "Göring has only got one ball, Hitler's are so very small, Himmler's so very similar, and Goebbels has no balls at all."

But no one has managed to discover who switched the lines to correctly say that it was Hitler who was missing a testicle.

Most versions now begin with the line: "Hitler has only got one ball."

Some go on to make the odd - but amusing - claim that "the other is on the kitchen wall".

Others claim his mother hid the missing testicle in the Albert Hall.

Comedian Ricky Gervais claimed in a gag during his Fame stand-up tour that he has checked the building out and never found it.

Almost all the versions refer to Hitler's mother, "the dirty b****r", being the one who lopped it off.

The second verse is: "She threw it over Germany, it landed in the deep blue sea, the fishes got out their dishes, and had scallops and b******s for tea."

Hitler HAD only got one ball

By ALEX PEAKE

AN extraordinary account from a German army medic has finally confirmed what the world long suspected: Hitler only had one ball.

War veteran Johan Jambor made the revelation to a priest in the 1960s, who wrote it down.

The priest's document has now come to light â€" 23 years after Johan?s death.

The war tyrant's medical condition has been mocked for years in a British song.

The lyrics are: "Hitler has only got one ball, the other is in the Albert Hall. His mother, the dirty b****r, cut it off when he was small."

Until now there has never been complete proof Hitler was monorchic â€" the medical term for having one testicle.

But the document tells how Johan saw the proof with his own eyes. In the account, he relives the horror of serving as an army medic in World War I.

He died aged 94 in 1985, but had told his secret to priest Franciszek Pawlar, who kept a note of their conversation.

Johan?s friend Blassius Hanczuch confirmed the priest's account of how the medic saved Hitler's life. He said: "In 1916 they had their hardest fight in the Battle of the Somme.

"For several hours, Johan and his friends picked up injured soldiers. He remembers Hitler.

"They called him the "Screamer". He was very noisy. Hitler was screaming, Help, help!

"His abdomen and legs were all in blood. Hitler was injured in the abdomen and lost one testicle. His first question to the doctor was: "Will I be able to have children?" "

Blassius said that when the Nazis swept to power Johan began to suffer nightmares and blame himself for saving Hitler.

Hitler's genitals have long caused controversy. Some historians dismissed the "one ball" song as propaganda. But an alleged Soviet autopsy on Hitler backed it up.

Records show Hitler did suffer a groin injury in the Somme.

It is the first time an interview with anyone who treated Hitler during WWI has come to light.

Dr Martin Farr, senior lecturer at Newcastle University School of Historical Studies, said last night: "This genuinely new twist is fascinating."
