Where, we could ask, did this unbelievable mass of water go when it subsided? From where did the dove get the olive leaf? If all vegetation had been submerged for a number of days there would not have been any live trees. Flood waters kill vegetation very quickly.

A great deal has been made of Genesis 7:21 which says. "And all flesh died that moved upon the earth." The word 'earth' is from the Hebrew word 'erets' which can be translated also as land, country, field or world. The earth here is the Adamic land or where the Adamic people lived. It is interesting to note that only the people, cattle, fowl and creeping things that lived on dry ground were destroyed by the Flood (Gen. 7:23). There is no mention made of sea creatures.

If we take the Genesis record to mean that all the high mountains in the world were covered with water, then the Himalayas would have been covered. This means that a flood to a depth of six miles.

If the Flood were universal and all land had been covered to a depth so great, even the fish in the sea would not have been able to survive.

and the conclusion is: you are refering Bible verses
so it includes God too-amen (closed) hagoo!hehehe

Facts and Trivia / Re: DID YOU KNOW
March 10, 2008, 04:46:36 PM
James Buchanan- was the U.S's only bachelor President

Born: 4/23/1791
Birthplace: Mercersburg, Pa.

James Buchanan was born near Mercersburg, Pa., on April 23, 1791. A Dickinson graduate and a lawyer, he entered Pennsylvania politics as a Federalist. With the disappearance of the Federalist Party, he became a Jacksonian Democrat. He served with ability in the House (1821â€"31), as minister to St. Petersburg (1832â€"33), and in the Senate (1834â€"45), and in 1845 became Polk's secretary of state. In 1853, Pierce appointed Buchanan minister to Britain, where he participated with other American diplomats in Europe in drafting the expansionist Ostend Manifesto.

He was elected president in 1856, defeating John C. Frémont, the Republican candidate, and former President Millard Fillmore of the American Party. The growing crisis over slavery presented Buchanan with problems he lacked the will to tackle. His appeasement of the South alienated the Stephen Douglas wing of the Democratic Party without reducing Southern militancy on slavery issues. While denying the right of secession, Buchanan also denied that the federal government could do anything about it. He supported the administration during the Civil War and died in Lancaster, Pa., on June 1, 1868.

The only president to remain a bachelor throughout his term, Buchanan used his charming niece, Harriet Lane, as White House hostess.

See also Encyclopedia: James Buchanan.

Died: 6/1/1868

International Women's Day, the U.S., and the U.N.
IWD was commemorated in the United States during the 1910s and 1920s, but then dwindled. It was revived during the women's movement in the 1960s, but without its socialist associations. In 1975, the U.N. began sponsoring International Women's Day.

International Women's Day is now an official holiday in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. In addition, events are held all over the world.

Some of the issues the U.N. and International Women's Day have focused on include the following:
About 25,000 brides are burned to death each year in India because of insufficient dowries. The groom's family will set the bride on fire, presenting it as an accident or suicide. The groom is then free to remarry.
In a number of countries, women who have been raped are sometimes killed by their own families to preserve the family's honor. Honor killings have been reported in Jordan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and other Persian Gulf countries.
According to UNICEF, 100 million to 140 million girls and women have undergone some form of female genital mutilation. Today, this practice is carried out in 28 African countries, despite the fact that it is outlawed in a number of these nations.
Rape as a weapon of war has been used in Chiapas, Mexico, Rwanda, Kuwait, Haiti, Colombia, and elsewhere.
2007's theme was: "Ending Impunity for Violence against Women and Girls."

International Women's Day
March 8th commemorates women's rights and peace

In its various incarnations, ranging from a communist holiday to a U.N.-sponsored event, International Women's Day has been celebrated for over 95 years.

Inspired by an American commemoration of working women, the German socialist Klara Zetkin organized International Women's Day (IWD) in 1911. On March 19, socialists from Germany, Austria, Denmark and other European countries held strikes and marches. Russian revolutionary and feminist Aleksandra Kollontai, who helped organize the event, described it as "one seething trembling sea of women."

As the nascent annual event developed, it took on the cause of peace as well as women's rights. In 1915, Zetkin organized a demonstration in Bern, Switzerland, to urge the end of World War I. Women on both sides of the war turned out.

Russian Women and the February Revolution
Both Zetkin and Kollontai took part in the most famous International Women's Dayâ€"the March 8, 1917, strike "for bread and peace" led by Russian women in St. Petersburg. The IWD strike merged with riots that had spread through the city between March 8â€"12. The February Revolution, as it became known, forced the Czar Nicholas II to abdicate. (Russia switched from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in 1918, which moved the dates of the February revolution [Feb. 24â€"28, old style] to March.)

The "Heroic Woman Worker," Soviet Style
Kollontai, a minister in the first Soviet government, persuaded Lenin to make March 8 an official communist holiday. During the Soviet period, the holiday celebrated "the heroic woman worker." Today it is still a Russian holidayâ€"celebrated in the fashion of Mother's Day with flowers or breakfast in bedâ€"in which men show appreciation for the women in their lives.

General Topic / General information on Germany
March 10, 2008, 03:00:05 AM
Official Name: Federal Republic of Germany
Capital: Berlin (Current local time)
Government Type: Federal republic
Chief of State: Angela Merkel, chancellor
Population: 82.4 million
Area: 137,821 square miles; about the size of Montana
Languages: German
GDP Per Capita: $31,900
Year of Independence: 1871
Web site: Bund.de

Go to the Germany Travel Guide »Exploring the New Berlin: Anyone who lived through the fear of the Cold War can't help but shudder at the memory of the Berlin Wall. Since reunification, civic planners, with almost manic enthusiasm, have demolished large sections of what once stood as a scar across the face of a defeated nation. The architectural changes and urban developments that constantly update the cityscape around Berlin's Friedrichstrasse and Potsdamer Platz can be confusing. But regardless of which renewal program is churning up rubble at the time of your visit, a pilgrimage through what used to be the most bitterly contested urban turf in Europe can't help but provoke powerful emotions.

Hiking in the Bavarian Alps: In summer, alpine hiking is a major attraction in Germany. Hikers can observe a variety of wildlife, often including endangered species. Two of the best areas are the 1,240m (4,060-ft.) Eckbauer peak, on the southern fringe of Partenkirchen, and the Berchtesgaden National Park, bordering the Austrian province of Salzburg.

Ascending the Zugspitze: If the gentle inclines of the Harz Mountains or the Thuringian forests aren't dramatic enough for you, ride the cable car from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the top of Germany's tallest mountain, 2,963m (9,720 ft.) above sea level. The view from the top is suitably panoramic, and you'll find an appealing aura of German-ness that comes from the many hill climbers and trekkers who fan out across the hiking trails.

Spending a Midsummer's Night in a Biergarten: When the temperature rises, head for the unpretentious cheer of the nearest Biergarten (everybody in Germany seems to have a favorite, so we're not even going to try to name the "best"). These watering holes, which often feature trellises, climbing vines, Chinese lanterns, and arbors, offer low-cost fun on soft summer nights. You can order platters of hearty food with your beer or bring your own picnic.

Cruising the Elbe, the Danube, and the Rhine: This trio of rivers, along with their tributaries, dominated German commerce for hundreds of years. Today, an armada of tugboats, barges, and cruise ships still plies the muddy waters beside riverbanks lined with the historic majesty (and sometimes the industrial might) of central Europe. Cruises begin and end at large cities of historic interest and last anywhere from 6 hours to 7 days.

Boating on the Königssee: A romantic poet would praise this lake, near Berchtesgaden in Bavaria, for the forest-covered mountains that surround its cold, deep, dark waters. The baroque chapels and fairy-tale hamlets on its shores supplement its natural grandeur. The boat you ride will be powered by very quiet electric motors, so you can hear the extraordinary echoes that bounce off the rock faces.

Science and Research / Robert Alexander Schumann
March 10, 2008, 02:30:10 AM
Robert Schumann,[1] sometimes given as Robert Alexander Schumann,[2] (June 8, 1810 â€" July 29, 1856) was a German composer, aesthete and influential music critic. He is one of the most famous Romantic composers of the 19th century.

He had hoped to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist, having been assured by his teacher Friedrich Wieck that he could become the finest pianist in Europe after only a few years of study with him. However, a hand injury prevented those hopes from being realized, and he decided to focus his musical energies on composition. His published compositions were, until 1840, all for the piano; he later composed works for piano and orchestra, many lieder (songs for voice and piano), four symphonies, an opera, and other orchestral, choral and chamber works. His writings about music appeared mostly in Die neue Zeitschrift für Musik ("The New Journal for Music"), a Leipzig-based publication that he jointly founded.

In 1840, after a long and acrimonious legal battle with her father, he married pianist Clara Wieck, a considerable figure of the Romantic period in her own right. For the last two years of his life, after an attempted suicide, Schumann was confined to a mental institution.

The troubled home loan servicer is being probed by Feds for using fraudulent lending practices, financial reporting.

Last Updated: March 9, 2008: 10:11 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The FBI has launched an investigation into the lending practices of battered home lender Countrywide Financial Corp., according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. The mortgage company is suspected of widespread fraud, the paper said, which may have contributed to the subprime mortgage crisis that has rocked the U.S. economy.

The probe will examine underwriting and mortgage origination practices, and whether the company misrepresented losses related to subprime loans.

Bank of America, which agreed in January to acquire Countrywide for $4 billion in stock, denied any knowledge of a federal investigation.

Calabasas, Calif.-based Countrywide is the nation's largest home lender, responsible for roughly one-fifth of the mortgages in the United States.

Mortgage mess CEOs defend pay
When the housing crash began, Countrywide (CFC, Fortune 500) was faced with an increasing number of subprime customers who were delinquent with their mortgage payments. The company was forced to essentially shut down its subprime lending operations last year to focus on originating loans that conform to Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac (FRE, Fortune 500) guidelines, considered to be safe investments.

On Friday Countrywide's founder and CEO, Angelo Mozilo, testified before the House Committee on Government and Oversight Reform, along with two other CEOs who resigned in the wake of the mortgage crisis -- Charles Prince of Citigroup (C, Fortune 500), and Stanley O'Neal of Merrill Lynch (MER, Fortune 500). All three defended their lofty compensation packages, despite the loss of billions to their companies and shareholders.

There is no evidence to suggest that Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500) will back out on its acquisition of Countrywide, the paper said, and may even be trying to speed up the process, according to some sources.

German Prosecutors Investigate Allegations Against Deutsche Bank Chief
March 09, 2008: 05:26 AM EST

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Berlin prosecutors confirmed Saturday that they are investigating allegations against the chief executive of Deutsche Bank regarding a loan to the Russian energy company Gazprom.

The bank says the claims are part of a revenge campaign by former media tycoon Leo Kirch.

The Berlin prosecutor's office is looking into the allegation, brought by a private individual, that CEO Josef Ackermann gave "improper advantage" to former deputy finance minister Caio Koch-Weser, spokesman Michael Grunwald said.

Koch-Weser in 2005 agreed to the government's guaranteeing a loan worth at least 1 billion euros to Gazprom from Deutsche Bank. Three months later, Koch-Weser was named vice chairman of the Deutsche Bank group _ a move widely questioned by opposition parties at the time.

Grunwald would not elaborate, but Deutsche Bank said the complaint was filed by Kirch, who is involved in a lawsuit against Deutsche Bank.

"We have full confidence in the work of the investigative authorities and assume that the investigation will quickly show the groundlessness of the accusations," said Christian Streckert, spokesman for Deutsche Bank.

Streckert said it was a "revenge campaign" by Kirch, who is suing Deutsche Bank AG for $1.85 billion over claims the bank's former CEO undermined his group's creditworthiness and contributed to its eventual bankruptcy by implying in a television interview in February 2002 that banks would not lend the group any more money.

Kirch's spokesman was not available for comment Saturday.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (CNN) 9th March 2008
â€" Eighteen people were killed and 50 others were injured early Sunday when a train slammed into a chartered bus near the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires, police said.

The crash occurred at about 2 a.m. local time when the bus drove onto the railroad tracks in front of an approaching train in Dolores, about 125 miles south of the capital city.

Local television footage showed the destroyed bus and train cars, overturned on the road and on the tracks. The train barrier bar was in the down position, and had been snapped in half.  Seats, luggage and clothing were sprawled about the scene, scattered for at least 200 feet in every direction.
