phases of matter

Matter can exist in four phases (solid, liquid, gas, and plasma) and a few other extreme phases, like critical fluids and degenerate gases. The phase diagram of water (above) shows its phase at various temperatures and pressures.

Pangaea was a supercontinent consisting of all of Earth's land masses. It existed during the Permian and Jurassic period. It began breaking up during the Jurassic period, forming continents Gondwanaland and Laurasia, separated by the Tethys Sea.

ozone layer

The ozone layer is a region of the stratosphere which contains most (about 90%) of the Earth's atmospheric ozone. It is about 10-25 miles (15-40 km) above the Earth's surface. The ozone layer shields the Earth from Ultraviolet B rays that come from the Sun. The ozone layer is becoming depleted, and there is an "ozone hole" over Antarctica.

oceanic plates

The crust of the Earth is broken into plates. The plates are enormous chunks of rock that float atop the soft mantle. The plates are moving at a speed that has been estimated at 1 to 10 cm per year. Oceanic plates (those that are under the ocean) are thinner, younger, and denser than continental plates. These underwater plates are about 75 kilometers thick and are made of basalt rock. They are relatively young since plate formation (seafloor spreading) occurs at the margins of oceanic plates.

obsidian

Obsidian (also called Apache tears) is a volcanic glass that is usually black, but is occasionally red, brown, gray, green (rare), dark with "snowflakes," or even clear. mass extinction

magnitude

The intensity of an earthquake is described by a number in the Richter scale, called the magnitude. Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24th of 1897 in Atchison Kansas. It is said that the year of Amelia Earhart's death is 1937 however the place of her demise is unknown. This soon to be world famous aviator's
first taste of aviation really did not impress her all that much. A while after seeing that airplane at the state fair, Amelia Earhart went to a stunt flying exhibition where her life long love of flying was born. During that fateful exhibition a pilot dove towards Amelia and a friend while they watched the show, most likely in an attempt to scaring them. Amelia Earhart stood her ground and as the plane swooped over her head that this was her lifes calling.

After she graduated from high school in 1915 Amelia Earhart worked for a time as a nurse's aide in a Canadian military hospital during the first world war. Earhart attended college and became a social worker. Amelia Earhart took her very first flying lesson in January of 1921 and just six months later through a lot of hard work was able to put together enough money to purchase her own plane. The bright yellow plane named "Canary" was used by Amelia Earhart to set her first women's flying record for reaching an altitude of 14,000 feet.

Amelia Earhart entered several flying contests over the years that weren't taken very seriously by men. Through these competitions she met George Putnam who would eventually become her husband. However still wanting to remain independent Amelia Earhart thought of her marriage more as a partnership and had been quoted as saying the relationship was "dual control".

In the years that followed Amelia Earhart continued to smash flight records while planning her last adventure. At the age of forty years old Amelia Earhart wished to be the first woman to fly around the world. The ill fated flight was not the success she hoped it would be as she and her co-pilot never made it to their final destination.

While no one knows for sure what happened it is a theory of many that Amelia Earhart and her co-pilot were captured and possibly killed by the Japanese in Saipan.

lava

Lava is molten rock. It usually comes out of erupting volcanoes.

lava bomb

A volcanic bomb is a chunk of viscous lava (over 64 mm) that is ejected (thrown) from a volcano. Since they are still viscous when ejected, they often have rounded, aerodynamic shapes. Type of bombs include: breadcrust bombs, ribbon bombs, spindle bombs, spheroidal bombs, and "cow-dung" bombs.

lava dome

A lava dome is a dome-shaped mound that is formed around a vent by viscous lava.

lava tube

A lava tube is a tube-like, underground conduit formed by flowing lava. The flowing lava crusts over at the edges and drains out onto lower ground - what is left is a smooth, tube-like tunnel with hanging lava stalactites and a flat floor - a lava tube.

lahar

A lahar (also called a mudflow or debris flow) is a moving mixture of rock, water, and other debris that falls down the slopes of a volcano and/or a river valley. Lahar is an Indonesian word.

WA pa gihapon igkita ang usa ka mananagat nga gitahong nawala sa lawod sa dihang nanagat atol sa pagdaut sa panahon didto sa lalawigan sa Davao del Sur.

Nasayran nga migikan sa ilang balay ang 50 anyos nga si Arturo Daya, minyo ug nagpuyo sa Sityo Lacobe, Barangay Talagutong, lungsod sa Don Marcelino, Davao del Sur, niadtong Marso 10 ning tuiga.

Tungod sa kabalaka sa pamilya sa gidangatan ni Daya, midangop sila sa kapulisan niadtong Dominggo.

Sumala sa pamilya nga ang biktima sakay sa bangkang de motor kay managat bisan og daut ang panahon.

Wa magdahom ang pamilya nga di kini makabalik mao nga nangayo na sila og tabang sa lokal nga gobyerno sa lugar.

Hasta mga silingang mananagat nitabang na sab pagpangita kang Daya ug naglaum nga way dautang nahitabo kaniya.

Gisugdan na sa kapulisan ang search and rescue operation aron makit-an si Daya sa lawod diin siya nanagat. (Dondon Dinoy)

igneous rock

When molten rock cools, igneous rock is formed. Intrusive rocks are igneous rocks that have formed (and cooled slowly) beneath the surface of the Earth. Extrusive rocks are igneous rocks that have formed (and cooled more quickly) at the surface of the Earth (like obsidian). Some igneous rocks include granite, obsidian (volcanic glass), basalt, and andesite porphyry.

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord rescues them from them all. (Psalm 34:17-19)

Trust in the Lord and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security. Take delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him. (Psalm 37:3-7a)

NAKABSAN sa kinabuhi usa ka lalaki human nabangga ang gimanehong motorsiklo niadtong Domingo mga alas 5:30 sa hapon didto sa Camp-1, Maramag, Bukidnon.

Giila ang biktima nga mao si Melquisedeth Yandug, 55, minyo, taga Purok-13, Barangay Poblacion, siyudad sa Valencia.

Nasayran nga nagmaneho ang biktima sa iyang motorsiklo ug pauli na niadtong tungora dihang pagliko sa dalan natabo ang usa ka motorela nga miresulta sa pagsungag.

Sa kakusog sa pagkabangga ug kakusog sa pagpadagan sa biktima nilagpot kini ug nabunal ngadto sa motorela. Nibanda pa ang biktima una nabunal pag-usab sa semento.

Gidala pagdali sa duol nga balay tambalanan sa dapit apan tungod sa
grabeng naangkon niini dali kining giduso sa Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) ning siyudad sa Cagayan de Oro.

Pipila usab ka oras ang pakigbugno niini sulod sa emergency room apan mga alas 12:25 kagahapon sa kadlawon nakabsan sa kinabuhi ang biktima.

Ang pamilya niini dili makadawat sa nahitabo hinungdan nga ilang pasakaan og kaso ang motorela driver kinsa giingong nitipas sa dalan mao nga nasapon sa motorsiklo.

Ang patayng lawas sa biktima nga anaa sa morgue sa NMMC sa pagsulat ning balita gikatakdang ibalik sa puloy-anan niini sa Bukidnon.
