A dispute over the mounting of an electrical post led to a shootout yesterday in barangay Bolod, Panglao town which left two wounded including former Panglao mayor Dr. Doloreich Dumaluan.

Based on reports flashed over Station dyRD, at around 2:10 in the afternoon yesterday, Dumaluan confronted personnel of the Bohol Electric Cooperative (Boheco) who were setting up an electrical post for power connection at
a resort undergoing construction adjacent to the Dumaluan Beach Resort owned by the former mayor.

Dumaluan purportedly told the Boheco linemen to stop mounting the post since it is within the 20-meter salvage zone.

At the height of the confrontation, a worker at the newly constructed resort identified as one Teodulo Macalandag, 43, a resident of barangay Tiptip, this city, allegedly shot Dumaluan with a handgun.

The former mayor was hit on his left shoulder as one of his resort's security returned fire hitting Macalandag on the left arm.

Dumaluan was rushed by his bodyguards to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital where his assailant Macalandag was also brought for treatment.

Doctors at the GCGMH tried to extract the bullet lodged in his back.

Police Inspector Junnel Kadlaon, Panglao PNP and Tourist Police chief told the Chronicle they will come out with the results of their initial investigation anytime today.

Police recovered from the crime scene a 9MM black pistol and empty shell of a .45 caliber revolver.

In an interview with dyRD anchorman Chito Visarra while Dumaluan was on the way to the hospital, the former mayor said he tried to stop the Boheco personnel from installing the electrical post since it was within his property and it violates the 20-meter public easement.

However, according to the former mayor, Macalandag suddenly drew his firearm and shot him.

Unconfirmed reports said the suspected triggerman was employed by Virgo, a Manila-based security agency. He was reportedly linked to a murder case before.

In a separate interview with the dyRD news team, Macalandag said he shot Dumaluan due to a prior incident accusing the former mayor of manhandling one of his co-workers in the new resort.

Lawyer Albert Tinampay informed the Chronicle that his client, Jacinta Nair, owner of the new resort beside Dumaluan Beach Resort filed four charges of grave coercion against Dumaluan since July this year.

More than 14 years ago, Dumaluan also survived a gun attack which almost killed him after the suspect shot him after coming from a barber shop together with his son along CPG Ave., this city. The gunshot bore a wound through his neck.
