And female orangutans are included too â€" they’re dressed in skimpy outfits and sent out to be ring girls.

Female orangutans are dressed up as ring girls. (Picture: EPA/Diego Azubel)

Bizarrely, tourists are still flocking to watch the disturbing shows.

Photos have emerged of depressed-looking orang-utans at a fight that was held on Sunday at Safari World, Bangkok.

The shows have been called ‘cruel and exploitative’ (Picture: EPA/Diego Azubel)

Orangutans are being made to fight each other in boxing matches, for ‘entertainment’.

The endangered apes usually prefer to be alone, and rarely spend time on the ground because they prefer hanging out in trees.

So they probably don’t enjoy being dressed up in Muay Thai gear and sent into a ring to throw pretend punches and kicks at each other.

PUYRA BUYAG

Gutter language!

Kinsa may mobalibad og kuwarta kanato?

(JPC)

The abominable actions of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi soldiers were fueled by meth, records show. A new book, Der Totale Rausch (The Total Rush), by German writer Norman Ohler, will profile the rampant drug use after years of researching both German and U.S. records. Ohler, whose research shocked him mostly because of Hitler’s drug use, said the drugs are what helped, “maintain his delusion until the end.”

Nazis took to Pervitin: a pill-like crystal meth. At first it was an over-the-counter drug sold in European pharmacies guaranteeing alertness. According to Ohler, one pill was enough to keep the Nazis awake for hoursâ€"and allowed them to hike almost 36 miles in a dayâ€"making Nazis think of it like coffee. Once the effects wore off Nazis were became short-tempered and angry.

A 2005 Der Spiegel report explained how Pervitin made its way into the hands of German soldiers citing a military doctor’s experiment of it on 90 college students where the doctor said the pill would  “help win the war.” Not even six months later and millions of the drug were flown to the Nazis where they were handed out before invasions. Ohler said Pervitin was specifically used for Blitzkriegs like the invasion of Sudetenland, Poland, and France.

Hitler, who famously used heroin, doping agents, and other hard drugs, according to his physician Dr. Theodor Morrell’s notes, may or may have not used Pervitin. If he did, it would’ve made for a dangerous combination since long-term meth use can have neurological effects causing aggressive behavior and psychosis, while long-term heroin use effects decision-making and causes irrational behavior when stressed.

“I always give opportunities to those people who are handicapped.

Naa gyuy mga challenges but I take it in positive way. And whatever trials that come into my life, I bear it in a positive way,” dugang niini.

Kini nahitabo atol sa summer dihang first year high school pa siya.

But the admiral’s accompanying PowerPoint slides were direct. Up popped a map of the South China Sea on two giant screens next to the stage. At the top, large text read “Reclamations in the South China Sea.” On the map, colored dots identifying islands China, Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia all claim as their own.

Otsuka raised his concern that commercial fishing fleets were being used as maritime militia to defend reclaimed islands.

“This may provoke, sooner or later, a debate how the conflict between military and maritime militia, if any, should be handled,” he said.

It was a brief exchange that showed that there is much more to be said. About 20 minutes into his speech, the think tank moderator informed Yubai he had reached his allotted speaking time limit. Yubai paused as his translator nervously relayed the message. Yubai continued and a concerned look appeared on the translator’s face.

“If all these [people] can hear and understand Chinese,” he said, “I would [have been] shorter.”
#6038
The exchange came at London’s Defence & Security Equipment International, or DSEI, conference, which gathers naval leaders from around the world. Yubai sat with U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Jeff Harley, assistant deputy chief of naval operations for operations, plans and strategy, and Vice Adm. Umio Otsuka, president of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Command and Staff College.

Yubai spent most of his speech talking about the Maritime Silk Road, Chinese President Xi Jinping’s concept of creating ports along global trade routes. But the real point of interest was the South China Sea, where U.S. and Japan have protested China’s island-building. U.S. Adm. Harry Harris, Pacific Command commander, has said the islands are clearly intended for military use as forward operating bases. China has been rapidly building a giant airstrip Fiery Cross Reef. The U.S. Navy has released video of the islands by a P-8 spy plane. The Navy also released audio radio calls of the Chinese Navy telling the American plane to get lost.

“I’m firmly convinced that the problems around the South China Sea, so far, can be successfully solved with the joint efforts and consultation of the hosting countries around the South China Sea,” Yubai said.

Otsuka, in his remarks, shared the fable about a woman who tells her husband of 30 years she had a dream that she received a giant diamond ring for her birthday. She asks her husband what the dream means? So, for her birthday, he gave her a book about the meaning of dreams.

The Japanese admiral said, “As not a native English speaker, I hope you pick up what I truly mean from the context by reading between the lines.”

SEPTEMBER 14, 2015
BY MARCUS WEISGERBER

LONDON â€" In a rare appearance together, American and Chinese admirals sat alongside one another to present their views on maritime security in the Asia-Pacific region. The audience came to hear about one thing, the South China Sea, and China’s commander was clear: “It belongs to China.”

There was political theater and a few one-liners, as the panel remained cordial and the admirals were all smiles during handshakes before and after. But the tension was real and the messages direct.

“The South China Sea, as the name indicated, is a sea area. It belongs to China,” said Vice Adm. Yuan Yubai, who commands the North Sea Fleet for the People’s Liberation Army Navy.

Yubai said China is working with the U.S. military on a code of conduct for aircraft encounters, which he hoped would help avoid conflict among the five nations with claims in the South China Sea.

“I believe after this code of conduct is successfully passed, all the neighboring countries around this area will have good communication with each other whenever such unexpected encounters occur,” Yubai said.

When the stock market sank in 2009, Sandy Chaikin of Philadelphia, lost 40% of the money she’d invested in mutual funds following her financial adviser’s recommendations. “I asked my financial adviser to sell, but he suggested I ride it out,” says Chaikin, 65.

That experience was enough for the veteran marketing executive to look for a new way to invest â€" mostly on her own, but with guidance from her husband, Marc, a long-time investor and CEO of Chaikin Analytics.

“It’s become very rewarding to be able to take control of my own finances and to have the confidence to say that I can do it,” she says.

The Education a Late-Bloomer Investor

After the 2009 rout, Sandy started soaking up stock information on Yahoo Finance and reading articles about specific stocks on the popular investing site, Seeking Alpha.

Her education (plus a roaring bull market) paid off.

Leap of faith: Tens of thousands of Hindu pilgrims take holy dip to celebrate India's Kumbh Mela festival

Dreadlocked Indian holy men and Hindu pilgrims washed away their sins with a religious dip during the second Kumbh Mela bathing or Pitcher Festival at Trimbakeshwar in Nasik, India on Sunday.

Hindu devotees take a holy dip in the waters of Godavari river to celebrate the festival which honours the victory of gods over demons in a furious mythological battle.

The sadhus, or 'Godmen', naked and with their faces painted, danced and chanted alongside tens of thousands of pilgrims celebrating the Shahi Snan, meaning 'royal bath'.

Hindu sects followed one another in shedding their orange robes before splashing joyously into the sacred water at Nashik. Their time to bathe lasted just seconds, however, as hundreds of police officers frantically blew their whistles to signal for them to hastily make way for the next wave of devotees.

The Kumbh Mela -a celebration of faith in which Hindus bathe in a sacred river - is held every third year and is rotated between four holy sites.

As a result, it takes place at Nashik every 12 years and although it isn't on the same scale as the editions on the Ganges at Haridwar and the Saraswati at Allahabad, it still draws millions of pilgrims.

Nashik is unique out of the four venues in that it has two main bathing sites, the Godavari river in Nashik and nearby Trimbakeshwar temple ghat, stretching the emergency services across a wide area.

The Kumbh Mela has its origins in Hindu mythology, which describes how a few drops of the nectar of immortality fell on all of the places that host the festival, the fourth being Ujjain in central India.

Between eight and 10 million pilgrims are expected to attend the two-month-long Hindu festival this year.

TOKYO â€" Mt Aso, a volcano on Japan’s main southern island of Kyushu, erupted on Monday, Japan’s Meteorological Agency said, blasting a plume of black smoke 2 kilometers high, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The 1,592-meter Mt Aso is one of the most active peaks in Japan but is also a popular hiking spot. There were a handful of people at a parking lot near the peak but they were being evacuated safely, officials said.

They said the eruption had come without warning.

Kyushu Electric Power Co said the eruption would have no impact on its nuclear plants, one of which - the Sendai nuclear plant, roughly 160 kms south of Mount Aso - was restarted in August.

Television footage showed black smoke boiling into the sky and ash was falling as far as 4 kms away, NHK national television said.

Japan lies on the “Ring of Fire” - a horseshoe-shaped band of fault lines and volcanoes around the edges of the Pacific Ocean - and is home to more than 100 active volcanoes.

Mount Ontake in central Japan erupted unexpectedly last year, killing 63 people, the worst volcanic disaster for nearly 90 years. In May, a remote island south of Kyushu was evacuated due to another eruption.

Stern warning

Aggravating the case for Pangalangan was his failure to disclose that the Ombudsman and the Senate blue ribbon committee had recommended him investigated “for possible anomalies committed while in office, during his work at the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel.”

The court did not say when and for how long Pangalangan worked at the state institution.

Initially handling the case, the IBP’s Commission on Bar Discipline ordered Pangalangan suspended for two years, giving a “stern warning” for him to reform.

But the IBP Board of Governors felt such penalty would let Pangalangan off easy: it amended the ruling in 2013, ordering the lawyer’s disbarment.

The case was elevated to the high court in November 2014.

“The court defined the issue as whether respondent had committed gross immoral conduct which would merit his disbarment. Resolving this, the Court agreed with the IBP and adopted its resolution,” read the summary of the ruling.

‘Deplorable arrogance’

In upholding the IBP’s ruling, the high court also cited Pangalangan’s absence during proceedings on his case.

“In all, Atty. Pangalangan displayed a deplorable arrogance by making a mockery out of the institution of marriage, and taking advantage of his legal skills by attacking the petition through technicalities and refusing to participate in the proceedings. His actions showed that he lacked the degree of morality required of him as a member of the bar, thus warranting the penalty of disbarment,” the court said in its ruling.â€"Tarra Quismundo

In an en banc ruling on Tuesday, the high court upheld the Integrated Bar of the Philippines’ (IBP) decision to kick Pangalangan out of the legal profession as it found “preponderant evidence” that the respondent had been “committing gross immorality in the conduct of his personal affairs.”

“The practice of law is a privilege given to those who possess and continue to possess the legal qualifications for the profession. Good moral character is not only required for admission to the bar, but must also be retained in order to maintain one’s good standing in this exclusive and honored fraternity,” the high court said in its ruling, parts of which were released in a summary this week.

Voting unanimously, the high court found Pangalangan guilty of “gross immorality” and of violating the 1987 Constitution’s provisions on the family.

Article 15, Section 2, of the Constitution says: “Marriage, as an inviolable social institution, is the foundation of the family and shall be protected by the State.”

He was also found guilty of violating several canons of the lawyers’ Code of Professional Responsibility, particularly provisions against “unlawful, dishonest, immoral or deceitful conduct,” “conduct that adversely reflects on his fitness to practice law,” and “scandalous” acts that discredit the legal profession.

For serial womanizing and other grossly immoral acts, a longtime lawyer has been stripped of his license to practice law.

The Supreme Court en banc has disbarred Quezon City lawyer Ian Raymond Pangalangan for violating the Code of Professional Responsibility and Lawyer’s Oath, ordering his name to be immediately stricken off the Roll of Attorneys for his illicit pursuits.

Pangalangan, a married man who had been practicing law since 1991, was exposed when a fellow lawyer sued him in 2007 for “illicit relations, chronic womanizing” and other “unscrupulous practices” that betray the values demanded of those in the practice.

Complainant lawyer Roy Ecraela was among the many husbands Pangalangan had scorned: the former’s wife is one among the several women with whom the latter had had extramarital attachments.

In his complaint, Ecraela cited Pangalangan’s string of indiscretions, including relationships “with a number of married or unmarried women … some of which were simultaneously occurring, even while respondent was himself married.”

About one billion people in the developing world, or 15 percent of the global population, practice open defecation. India is the country with the highest number of people practicing open defecation: around 600 million people. This is 47% of India's population. Most of it occurs in rural areas where the prevalence is estimated at 65 percent of the population. --Wiki

This is certainly true for Wolfe, who has long identified as a gay woman but now finds herself with the prospect of having a boyfriend. "I guess we're just another straight white couple now," she says with a laugh, though she quickly affirms that she and Bologno will "always be a queer couple."

Soper's current girlfriend, Johanna Campbell Case, had to deal with similar questions when they started dating. Campbell Case says she was very attracted to Soper but had never dated a trans person. "I always felt like I was scratching at the surface of my sexuality, and with Soper I feel like I've had this huge awakening. It's the best relationship of my life."

Campbell Case considers Soper her boyfriendâ€"a designation that's helped him feel more comfortable with his gender identity. "It feels really good to be seen as on par with other men," says Soper. "I'm just like the other guys."

For families of trans people too, seeing their loved one with a partner can be incredibly encouraging. One of the biggest concerns from Bologno's family was over whether anyone would be willing to enter a relationship with a trans man. Having Wolfe, he says, makes the answer pretty obvious. As Bockting explains, "When the family sees a person in love and in a relationship, they can no longer deny that this transition is good for them."

But ultimately, the importance of being in a relationship as a trans person goes far beyond just feeling more socially acceptable. Transitioning is a long, complex and often alienating process: Without support from family, friends or a significant other, it can seem impossible. "I know that this is who Freddie is and always has been," Wolfe says of her partner. "But it takes feeling loved to do this."
#6097
Those are statistics Alana Feral, 32, understands well. She tried to talk to her family about coming to terms with her female gender identity several times, but soon realized that "no help was forthcoming." Without money or support, Feral says transitioning didn't seem like an option. Instead, she made the extreme choice to join the Army's special operations forcesâ€"an act she describes as a "passive form of suicide." She served for six years, including a stint in Afghanistan as a medical sergeant. Though she still publicly identified as male, Feral says she actively tried to compensate for her inner femininity by "building a character…a mix of the Terminator, John Wayne and Wolverine." But by the end of her tour, the pressure of maintaining the facade was too much: "I remember sitting next to an open chopper door and wanting to jump out."

Though Feral says she had been open with her then-girlfriend about her gender identity questions, when she got back to her home in Asheville, her "body issues and dysphoria made sex very difficult." Ultimately, her girlfriend saw through the mask. "She brought me a dozen red roses, told me she loved me," Feral says, "and broke up with me because she 'didn't want to be a lesbian.'"

Feral says the breakup was a kind of relief, because it confirmed that she could no longer hide her true self, even when she wanted to. It proved to be just the push she needed to start the long transition process.

It's a common occurrence in transgender relationships: As trans people start to embrace a new gender identity, their partners often must come to grips with their own sexual identity. Often this can end a relationship, but according to Bockting it can also help both partners become more open-minded about their own sexuality and the labels they put on it.
#6098
It's an issue Bockting has devoted two decades to trying to understand. He has spent so long studying the LGBT experience because, he says, there's "hardly any research on understanding transgender people as social beings in loving relationships."

To change this, Bockting started Affirm, "a study that aims to learn more about the identity development and health of people who identify as transgender." William Mellman, one of Bockting's Ph.D. students and the coordinator of Affirm, is spending the next 12 months talking with trans people and their partners in New York, San Francisco and Atlantaâ€"the first comprehensive study of its kind.

For Basil Soper, 29, gender identity had always been an issue that was either dismissed or suppressedâ€"especially when it came to confronting his father, who he says was "drunken and abusive." Soper moved out at 16 and found a welcoming LGBT scene in Asheville, North Carolina. Still, Soper was homeless for six months, struggling to find the emotional and financial support necessary to start the transition process. He says he looked for solace in "excessive drinking and drug use."

Substance abuse is common among trans people. The Center for American Progress estimates that up to 40 percent of U.S. homeless youth identify as lesbian, gay, bi or transgender, compared with only 5 to 10 percent of youth overall. The same study found that 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth experience discrimination from their families, and they are also 8.4 times more likely to attempt suicide than their straight peers.

The text was sent to 2.4 million people by Freddie Bologno: "I've texted for DoSomething as Alysha for 3yrs, but I've been struggling. Im trans, Im Freddie!"

Bologno, 27, works at Do Something, a digital organization that helps young people push for social change through social media and text messaging. For Bologno, the text was a way to both come out publicly and start a conversation about being young and transgender. But before coming out to the world, Bologno had to talk to his girlfriend, Tile Wolfe. "I just started crying," says Wolfe, remembering the moment Bologno said he wanted to start taking hormones to transition from female to male. "Not because I was sad, but because this was suddenly so real."

Wolfe, 23, has lived in New York for five years and has always identified as a lesbian. She met Bologno four years ago while standing in line for the bathroom at Metropolitan, a grimy gay bar in Brooklyn. "I said something like, 'I hope to meet you again in a less gross place,'" Bologno recalls. Wolfe remembers the moment as "deeply corny." They've been living together for two years now, alongside Buddha, their chubby gray cat. "We're so in love," Wolfe says, blushing.

Like Wolfe and Bologno, there are hundreds of couples across the country with one or both members transitioning. And while transgender celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox have offered profound insights into what a transitioning individual goes through, there is little out there concerning what it's like to transition as a couple, or even what it's like to date as a transgender person or fall in love. "It's quite common for trans people to wonder, Will anyone love me?" says Walter Bockting, a psychiatrist and co-director of the LGBT Health Initiative at Columbia University.

A self-made millionaire says a seemingly innocuous daily habit could be keeping you from getting rich[/ssize]
Business Insider
By Kathleen Elkins

Stop complaining â€" out loud and in your head â€" if you want to improve your finances.

Much of what separates wealthy people from average people is mental â€" rich people simply think, act, and make choices differently than the rest of us.
In "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind," author and self-made millionaire T. Harv Eker identifies a seemingly harmless daily habit average people engage in that the rich refuse to: complaining.

"Complaining is the absolute worst possible thing you could do for your health or your wealth," Eker writes.

When you complain, you're focusing on what is wrong with your life â€" and what you focus on tends to expand, Eker explains.

"Like attracts like," the self-made millionaire writes. "When you are complaining, you are actually attracting 'crap' into your life."

This leaves very little room for growth, particularly financial growth.

A fact often overlooked â€" or dismissed as elitist â€" is that your friendships and relationships could also have a major impact on your financial success. Steve Siebold, a self-made millionaire who interviewed over 1,200 rich people, found that the wealthy are deliberate about choosing their friends, and their choices have implications for their success and their net worth.

Eker makes a similar point about negativity. Separating yourself from other complainers is just as important as resisting the urge to complain personally, he emphasizes: "Negative energy is infectious. Plenty of people, however, love to hang out and listen to complainers. Why? It's simple: They're waiting for their turn!"

It's an easy cycle to fall into, but a costly one.

If you're in a financial rut, or looking to grow your wealth, stop complaining â€" out loud and in your head, Eker advises, and help yourself out by surrounding yourself with an upbeat, successful crowd.

"Remind yourself that you are creating your life and that at every moment you will be attracting either success or crap into your life," he writes. "It is imperative you choose your thoughts and words wisely!"
