Mayor Dan Lim said that contrary to what his critics would like the public to believe, the killing had little to do with a breakdown of peace and order.

"These types of crimes are a consequence of a loose lifestyle. It can happen to any place and should not be an indication of the peace and order situation in the city," he added.

we hope, mayor, that you are right, and this case and other cases will soon be solved.

Kinsa mang ang kamao mo himo ug wine, champagne, beer or whiskey adtong panahona?

So be it as suggested by Glacier. TUBA is the official drink of Sandugo Festival. Also, the color red of tuba symbolizes blood.

kung pwede lang unta...naay makamao mohimo og promo aning tuba. kay karon kung tuba imnun, ang mahunahunaan sa uban, taga-baryo sook ray manginomay ani (which is 90% true). unsaong tua na man tas beer ug hard liquor modimdim. mawa man ang tuba kung tuparan og San Miguel ug Tanduay. hehehe.

Hofelina, I don’t disagree your post... My reply was to Calles point!

I am not a Filipina or balikbayan, I am a "resident status", married with another resident, who is heritage from Bohol! We live in Philippines part time and run our company there. I know very well the situation and culture pattern in Philippines,, With "new eyes and experience" from at least 4 different cultures I think I know what I am talking about!

Yeah of course I never buy alcohol beverage to teenager, I am teetotaler self.

our culture, bridge, is now so saturated with cultures and lifestyles from other countries. truth to tell, for me, filipinos have this endless capacity to embrace the cultures of other people. our people adopt foreign ways of life so well that it becomes almost like our own, as you have seen it, the drinking binge among youngsters, for example. they think this liberal mindset, like your country of origin or other Western world, is the way life must be enjoyed.  now, you get the dose of what these cultural influences have done to our people and to our Maria Claras. so don't complain!

YES, it wasn't necessary to use expletives but I just can't help it if somebody even implies that not being able to speak Pilipino(Tagalog) is not Filipino enough because as I had mentioned before, it is a form of oppression by fellow Filipinos particularly of or from Luzon who are a "minority" in terms of having a widely used and more understood Bisayan or Bisayan-based dialect/s. Are we "Mga Bis/Daks" going to tolerate the berating of our Tagalog/Tagalog speaking brethren? My thread is veering quite far from from what we are supposed to be discussing.

My point on this post is that we as "Bisdaks" were once envied by our fellow Pinoys in the North and the South of the country because of our fluency in the English language. But sad to note that because of the insistence of the usage of Pilipino as a medium of instruction and the flooding of mundane mind-numbing Tagalog soap operas, added by the sad period in the Philippine education system wherein enrolling in the course of Education was the way for "bobos" and "bobas" back then, to earn a college degree. It was also at this period in Philippine history that teachers, educators where maligned (which still happens today) for being poor educators which eventually produced also poor quality of graduates... And indeed we need to improve and once again regain our fame as fluent english speakers and communicators if we are to ride the bandwagon of ICT(information communication technology) corridor kay moangay tag sa dili, dako jud og sweldo ang mga nanarbabo sa call centers unya daghang kog nailhang mga amigo as well as acquaintances nga na haw-as sa ilang pagka ala-ot (economically-speaking) tungod kay naay miyembro sa pamilya nga naka trabahog call center.

A woman decides to have a facelift for her 50th birthday.

She spends $15,000 and feels pretty good about the results.

On her way home, she stops at a newsstand to buy a newspaper. Before leaving, she says to the clerk, 'I hope you don't mind my asking, but how old do you think I am?

'About 32,' is the reply.'

'Nope! I'm exactly 50,' the woman says happily.

A little while later she goes into McDonald's and asks the counter girl the very same question.

The girl replies, 'I'd guess about 29.'

The woman replies with a big smile, 'Nope, I'm 50.'

Now she's feeling really good about herself. She stops in a drug store on her way down the street. She goes up to the counter to get some mints and asks the clerk this burning question.

The clerk responds, 'Oh, I'd say 30.'

Again she proudly responds, 'I'm 50, but thank you !!'

While waiting for the bus to go home, she asks an old man waiting next to her the same question. He replies, 'Lady, I'm 78 and my eyesight is going. However, when I was younger, there was a sure-fire way to tell how old a woman was. It sounds very forward, but it requires you to let me put my hands under your bra. Then, and only then, can I tell you EXACTLY how old you are.'

They wait in silence on the empty street until her curiosity gets the best of her. She finally blurts out, 'What the hell, go ahead.'

He slips both of his hands under her blouse and begins to feel around very slowly and carefully. He bounces and weighs each breast and he gently pinches each nipple. He pushes her breasts together and rubs them against each other.

After a couple of minutes of this, she says, 'Okay, okay....How old am I ?'

He completes one last squeeze of her breasts, removes his hands, and says, 'Madam, you are 50.'

Stunned and amazed, the woman says, 'That was incredible, how could you tell ?'

The old man says, 'Promise you won't get mad ?'

'I promise I won't' she says.

'I was behind you at McDonalds.

More women needing cash go from jobless to topless
By Karen Hawkins

CHICAGO - As a bartender and trainer at a national restaurant chain, Rebecca Brown earned a couple thousand dollars in a really good week. Now, as a dancer at Chicago's Pink Monkey gentleman's club, she makes almost that much in one good night.

The tough job market is prompting a growing number of women across the country to dance in strip clubs, appear in adult movies or pose for magazines like Hustler.

Employers across the adult entertainment industry say they're seeing an influx of applications from women who, like Brown, are attracted by the promise of flexible schedules and fast cash. Many have college degrees and held white-collar jobs until the economy soured.

"You're seeing a lot more beautiful women who are eligible to do so many other things," said Gus Poulos, general manager of New York City's Sin City gentleman's club. He said he got 85 responses in just one day to a recent job posting on Craigslist.

The transition to the nightclub scene isn't always a smooth one - from learning to dance in 13-centimetre heels to dealing with the jeers of some customers.

Some performers said they were initially so nervous that only alcohol could calm their nerves.

"It is like giving a speech, but instead of imagining everyone naked, you're the one who's naked," Brown, 29, said.

Eva Stone, a 25-year-old dancer at the Pink Monkey, said dealing with occasional verbal abuse from patrons requires "a thick skin."

Makers of adult films cautioned that women shouldn't rush into the decision to make adult movies without considering the effect on their lives.

"Once you decide to be an adult actress, it impacts your relationship with everyone," said Steven Hirsch, co-chairman of adult film giant Vivid Entertainment Group. "Once you make an adult film, it never goes away."

The women at the Pink Monkey say dancing at a strip club might not have been their first career choice, but they entered the business with their eyes wide open. The job gives them more control and flexibility than sitting in a cubicle, and "it's easy, it's fun and all of us girls ... look out for each other," Brown said.

In this economy, "desperate measures are becoming far more acceptable," said Jonathan Alpert, a New York City-based psychotherapist who's had clients who worked in adult entertainment.

For some, dancing is temporary, a way to pay for college loans or other bills. Others say they've found their niche.

Dancers at the upscale Rick's Caberet clubs in New York City and Miami can make $100,000 to $300,000 a year - in cash - even with the economic downturn, club spokesman Allan Priaulx said.

Priaulx said 20 to 30 women a week are applying for jobs at the New York club, double the number of a year ago.

Still, analysts say, the industry isn't immune to the economic recession. Business is down an estimated 30 per cent across all segments, including adult films, gentleman's clubs, magazines and novelty shops, said Paul Fishbein, president of AVN Media Network, an adult entertainment company that has a widely distributed trade publication and an award show.

"In the past, people have said this industry is recession-proof," said Eric Wold, director of research for financial services firm Merriman Curhan Ford. "I definitely don't see that; maybe recession-resistant."

The syndrome -- known in medical circles as apical ballooning syndrome or stress-induced cardiomyopathy -- is triggered by an emotionally traumatic incident. Causes have included a bank robbery, the death of a loved one, the death of a pet, a hurricane, an earthquake, a surprise birthday party.

The event sets off an unexplained physical reaction that causes the left ventricle of the heart to balloon, sometimes up to double its size. In its stretched form, the heart muscle can't pump properly, so blood flow is restricted. Patients feel winded and can experience chest pain, nausea and dizziness.

Philippine Business News / Guv To Mayor: Act Now
March 30, 2009, 02:09:41 AM
Guv urges mayor: Act now!
The Bohol Standard

BOHOL Gov. Erico Aumentado has urged Mayor Dan Lim to expedite the construction of the ultimate solution to the flooding, foul odor and environmental pollution problems in some areas in Tagbilaran City â€" a centralized wastewater treatment facility.

In a letter to Lim, Aumentado expressed his grave concern over media’s latest tag of Tagbilaran as a ‘stinking city’ from ‘crime city’ of the recent past.

“Obviously, media refers to the foul odor in the drainage system along CPG Avenue in front of Rose Pharmacy and Mercury Drugstore up to the corner of Allied Bank despite the fact that the unauthorized connections were already cut off. Similar foul odor is also noted at the Central Market and ICM area in Dao District,” the governor observed.

The tag does not sit well for Tagbilaran City which has been lauded as one of the Eight Dream Cities in the country by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), cited as one of the most livable cities in terms of quality of life by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and the gateway to Bohol’s tourism havens. Thus, the first impression the city gives to tourists and guests is of utmost importance to the rest of the province, he wrote.

Aumentado added that his concern was “heightened more than ever” because of the forthcoming Sandugo Festival, Tigum Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan or TBTK (Global Conference of Boholanos) and the Bohol Day celebration where President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is invited to be the guest of honor on the historic day, July 22.

“On this score, I urge your good self to expedite the process for the construction of Tagbilaran’s waste water treatment facility which you promised to be in place by the time the drainage system and the San Jose Street asphalting shall be completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH),” he reminded the mayor.

All your conditionalities have been met â€" including the concreting instead of the asphalt overlay of CPG Avenue as programmed originally, Aumentado said.

“It is your turn to honor your commitment done publicly and during the [Bohol Circumferential Road Improvement Project Phase 2] BCRIP 2 coordination meetings which I presided,” he added.

The governor also said that he learned from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) Central Office that the city government has filed a loan application for the establishment of a centralized waste water treatment facility in Taloto District.

However, It has not yet complied with DBP’s requirements to release the funds for the purpose until now, he observed.

“Thus it is time for the city government to focus on the requirements and implement with dispatch the waste water treatment facility to erase once and for all the ignominious sobriquet of “stinking city”,” he wrote.

Aumentado reminded Lim of the general welfare clause under Section 17 of the Local Government Code where it is the executive’s responsibility to abate public nuisance such as foul odor in the drainage system, prevent pollution and environmental disaster, among others.

“Just as you have risen to the occasion when Tagbilaran was branded as “crime city” before, I know that with the same fervor and able leadership, you will marshal the talents and resources of the city government to solve the problem head on. I know you can do it, but do it fast â€" and now,” he said.

Bohol media strongly condemns harassments
By: Ven rebo Arigo

Bohol media has strongly condemned the recent harassments and threats to its members and the “senseless, shameless assault to press freedom.”

In an approved en masse board resolution, the Bohol Tri-Media Association (BTMA) outpoured its dismay over the on-going affronts towards its members---and the very freedom of the press which is enshrined in the Constitution---after a series of recent harassments.

The group cited these recent assaults to press freedom victimizing, first, radio blocktimer Roberto “Batchoy” Alba, then radio reporter Roger Balamad and, most recently, radio blocktimer Nestor Daarol.

The BTMA loudly denounced the harassments and threats, saying they have only shown a bankruptcy in understanding the indispensable role and supreme responsibility of the media.

It said it is the profession of the media to act as a watchdog of good governance and public interest and to report on often controversial issues affecting the community it serves.

Bullying and threatening individual mediamen as retaliation for unfavorable reporting do not only put at risk the target journalists and their families, according to the BTMA.

This writer was physically harmed and threatened over a year ago before the series of recent attacks and harassments involving victims Alba, Balamad and Daarol.

The biggest press organization in this part of the country said attacking and threatening the media people is also clearly detrimental to the need of the greater public for vital informations to be published or aired.

The BMTA assailed the harassment to the members of the media in the performance of their work as an evident suppression of the people’s right to know.

The officers of the association vowed to stand in rock solidarity with their colleagues who, for their courageous work, have become victims of aggression.

Those who signed to conform to the board resolution are president Lito Responte, vice president for radio Peter Dejaresco, treasurer Jerry Pabe, secretary (this writer), auditor Batchoy Alba, and board directors Kit Bagaipo, Tibbs Bullecer, Jr., Atoy Cosap, Nestor Daarol, Bob Galero, Arnold Lucas, BJ Torralba and Chito Visarra.

As the Fourth Estate, the media or press has to act as guardian of public interest to sustain the uncompromising crusade for truth in a modern democracy, the group said.

The BTMA said any attempt to silence the press is death to the people’s democratic right to express.

After reading about the arrests, i do hope the investigation does not end here. There is so much more to this than meets the eye and i hope and pray that the people arrested will now tell the truth to who is really behind it all. . There is so much more sinister and deep rooted, i hope the police get all of his wifes text messages she sent martin over the last few months which i know included some death threats and also only started once she got her british visa refused.. . Martin was befriened by his perpertrators and lured to his death, its all so obvious to everyone and we all know what we believe, lets just hope the case does not close here and true justice is served. .

that's all we hope for, steve. foreigners and filipinos alike.

na^ tudlo-i na lang daan basin maparehas ani nga istorya nga giforward sa akong miga...

Little Johnny was 7 years old, and like other boys his age, rather curious. He had been hearing quite a bit about courting from other boys and he wondered what it was and how it was done.  One day he took his question to his mother, and she became flustered.  Instead of explaining things to Johnny she told him to hide behind the curtains one night and watch his older sister and her boyfriend.  This he did, and the following morning Johnny described everything to his mother.

Sis and her boyfriend sat and talked for awhile, then he turned off most of the lights.  Then he stated to kiss and hug her.  I figured sis must be getting sick because her face started looking funny.  He must have thought so too because he put his hand inside her blouse to feel her heart, just like the doctor would - except he’s not as good as the doctor because he seemed to have trouble finding her heart.  He was getting sick too, because pretty soon both of them started panting and getting all out of breath.  His other hand must have been getting cold because he put it under her skirt.  About this time sis got toward the end of the couch.  This was when the fever started.  I know it was a fever because sis told him she was really HOT.  Finally, I found out what was making them so sick…. a big eel had gotten inside his pants somehow.  It just jumps out of his pants and stood there about 9 inches long.  HONEST! anyway, he grabbed it in one hand to keep it from getting away.  When sis saw it she got really scared.  Her eyes big and her mouth fell open, and she started calling out to God and stuff like that.  I should tell her the ones I saw in the lake!  Anyway, sis got brave and tried to kill the eel by biting its head off.  All of a sudden, she made a noise and let the eel go.  I guess it bit her back. Then she grabbed it with both hands and held it tight while he took a muzzle out of his pocket and slipped it over the eel’s head to keep it from biting again.  Sis lay back and spread her legs so she could get a scissor lock on it.  And he helps by laying on top of the eel.  The eel put up a hell of a fight.  Sis started groaning and squealing and her boyfriend almost upset the couch.  I guess they wanted to kill the eel by squeezing it between them.  After a while they quit moving and gave a great sigh.  Her boyfriend sat up and sure enough they had killed the eel… I know it was dead because it just hung there limp and some of its inside are hanging out.  Sis and her boyfriend are a little tired from the battle, but they went on courting anyway.  He started hugging and kissing her again.  And by golly the eel wasn’t dead after all.  It jumped straight up and started to fight again.  I guess eels are like cats…they have nine lives or something.  This time sis jumped up and tried to kill the eel by sitting on it.  After about 35 minutes of struggle,  they finally killed the eel.  I know it was dead this time because I saw sis’s boyfriend peel off the skin and flush it down the toilet.

Mother fainted.

4- Toxic relationships-  Who lives longer? Married women or Married men?  Married Men is the answer. Women take care instinctively.  Many women have a hard time walking away from toxic relationships. If you are in a unhappy relationship you have to extricate yourself, figure out how to make yourself happy.  Staying in a Toxic relationship damages your health by adding stress.  Work your problems out, seek help, and focus on being healthy.

hahaha. i found this very opposite to what i had personally witnessed tonight. i was in a dinner/disco and talking to five women, in their 70s, and all are widows...and i jokingly told them, "how did you kill your husbands?" and they laughed hehehehe.

Moral of the story: make sure you lock the door before you do it, whatever the time of day.

When my son Paolo was seven, he told me that one early morning before sunlight, he woke up to go to the toilet but was afraid of the dark. So as he usually did, he sneaked to our room to wake me up and ask me to accompany him.

He said as he was about to enter the room, he suddenly froze. Then he moved backwards and decided to go to the toilet by himself. Later that week, he asked me out of the blue in Japanese, "Daddy, what were you doing on top of Mommy?"

Flustered, I answered with a red face, "Moms and dads sometimes do labing-labing."

He nodded his head as though he was completely satisfied with the answer. I thought that would be the end of the story.

A year later when he turned 8, while I was tending to Baby Sarah as we were watching TV, he suddenly confronted me, "Now I know! You were making Sarah then."

Bantay jud mo kay kujaw ang learning curve sa bata.

Is it greed, hate or jealousy? that this guy must die? The truth is that foreigners have no rights here. They can`t owned properties without marriage, they have to pay for their stay even though they`re married.
A Filipino citizen could build the biggest house in Germany or make the biggest business in town, they could stay lifetime without paying a single cent. They get all the rights, what the foreigners don`t have here in the Philippines. Is it not unfair? I know what Iam talking about .

i don't think this is true and fair. i live here in a foreign country too and work my ass off just as hard as anyone who tries to make a living in a strange land. everyone who legally lives in a foreign country, Filipino or not, is paying their dues to the government where they live, whether they are making a house or establishing a business.

and i don't know why your statement has any relevance to this topic.

It was unfair for the media in Tagbilaran to lambast the teacher of that eight-year-old boy who, at that time of the incident, was still on his way to the school for his afternoon classes. Kalooy ni ma'am. The kidnapping attempt happened outside the school premises. The barangay captain of Moto Sur should have been responsible. Instead, he went to media and complained against the teacher. That is not fair, di ba? I heard, anak sa kapitan ang bata.

Hi Calle,

Dili baya ko English teacher or grammar police. Don't get me wrong, I never pick a fight over English. I also have my own lapses. I agree, our wavelengths here have already converged so that we can "decipher ways of murdering the English language" and get away with it. Dili baya ni phrase nga magama sa usa ka tawo nga galisud tawn ug English. In fact, you are very articulate. Abogado ka no?  I think my mother who is a retired English teacher will give you an A for creative writing.

Diri sa TB, magkasinabtanay jud ta tanan kay lain-lain man tag gigikanan, points of view, backgrounds, and yet keep an open mind. When we are talking on the same wavelength, rules of grammar should serve and not restrict nor oppress us.
