...common things.

everybody can write, but not all can write to entertain, persuade or shift paradigms.
everybody can write, but if not a soul read whatever that is, it's still worth the trash bin.
everybody can write, but only those who have the gift and the Muse or Duwende to bug the person all the time, can write as if words fall like manna from heaven.

Welcome Rv!

you look "gwapo" labi na siguro kon makita tibook face:-))

I personally think that Tagbilaran is already so crowded and congestic city.
There was a plan before to moved the capital city of Bohol to Carmen.

Unya ibeautify ang Tagbilaran..himoan ug daghang nindot nga park.

There is also enough space to build a new domestic airport in Carmen.

Hi Asianfairy~

Yes. Pwede na buhatan ug subway system. heheheh

Though Tagbilaran is as green as green peas (pun intended), and a couple of public parks (Plaza Rizal, CPG Park, what else pa ba?) add to its appeal, it is the upkeep of all these that poses a challenge.

On the idea of transferring the capital to Carmen, I beg to differ. I simply could not imagine. heheheh.

peace out!

Hi Grazie7y!

...Tagbilaran has grown so fast I could barely recognize it. The last time I went home, I was enthralled with the yacht club at the pier area. Dang! It was postcard perfect! clear waters, loverly yacht, with equally loverly houses perched on top the cliff of Dauis facing the port area. It totally floored me! The streets are wider and all, but traffic becomes monstrous during rush hour! This is trivial, but there are always downsides to the growth of a person, or a place or what-have-you.

Yes. I agree with you that Bohol as a province is, well, for (my) lack of better words, nice. Personally, no other province comes close (toink me Palawenos, except Palawan, hahaha). But sometimes if progress is not well-planned, not well-managed, it will backfire in the long run.

Baguio, used to be called "the summer capital of the Philippines," is a wastebasket already. The level of carbon monoxide in Session Road has gone up beyond tolerable level since (many) years back. Houses by the mountainside seems to pop up like, well, mushrooms. In spite of all these, I still love Baguio for all its worth (the early morning walk, the fresh strawberries, dirt-priced veggies and ukay-ukay and all). Yes of course, the climate there is favorable practically all-year round.

Dumaguete, where summer is eternal, attributes its distinct charm to the old houses and institutions that has made a mark, of its youthful exuberance to its student populace (of S.U.), and to its Boulevard where many a writer have immortalized, to say a few of its pakpak.

Here's wishing that in spite of all these new developments going around, the city we love so much will retain its character, so that those who grew up there, like us, when we are old and grey, we could still come home and trace good memories.

...this is probably bec. I have set my own standards on what a city should be like.
that it should have a distinct charm!
that it should be like the quaint and laid-back Dumaguete. Or like Baguio nga even if you walk miles and miles you won't break a sweat!
karon, naay na may mga snatcher sa Tagbilaran oist! it has really grown so big a city

General Topic / Inday! the Inday text series ::
October 17, 2007, 05:31:04 PM

It’s a lazy Sunday morning.

By the time I wake up, the crowing of the cock is still drifting in the Sunset Drive neighborhood. The last song syndrome, the (Christmas) song ubiquitously heard in all department stores starting yesterday, is still clinging in my head like a hangover.

With my bedroom windows eternally open and sleeping only in boxer shorts, the chill this morning exceeds the past rainy morning. The sunlight that escaped the overcast is sifted by the bamboo curtain, streaking in the floor filled with laundry.

My alarm clock, dead since a month ago, registers 1:30am. Then my handyphone by the bedside table blinks that familiar blink. It’s 7:30am, with 8 messages queuing up.

What I always look forward to a morning like this is the Inday Text Series. With all these humorous (green), motivational to religious (ahem!) forwarded messages, you’ll never know when it fights for its own space in the inbox.

Inday is a rather high-brow and philosophical household staff whose spiels would equal Plato or Shakespeare. Pun intended. I’m sure you have your own dose of Inday also.

After the Malu Fernandez OFW issue that rocked the blog community, I’m sharing the Inday SMS stored in my archive. It’s the first Sunday of September for crying out loud! Here’s my dose:

Let us hear Inday make some philosophical noise:

“Success is often the result of taking a misstep in the right direction. Show me a person who has never made a mistake and I’ll show you somebody who has never achieved much.”

--sagot ni Inday nung sumabog and microwave na ginamit niya.

-------------------------------------

Would you please buy many fishes for this week’s meal?

Inday:          Judging by your statement, I believe you meant a variety of fish. The term ‘fishes’ although rarely used, connotes a plethora of different kinds of the said gilled aquatic creatures. But the more pressing questions before I go to the wet market would be: What type of fish? Fillet or not? Forzen or fresh? (pauses) Ahh… given the meager budget afforded by this household’s quasi-peasant class taste, I assume I shall source the staple “ ga-lewng-gong.” Am I correct?

Amo:           L***e!

-------------------------------------

Nurture others with positive, truthful words, not words that hurt. It doesn’t cost anything to do so. But mean what you say and say what you mean. Do it everyday. This is one of the most obvious qualities of the most beloved people. If you cannot be generous financially, at least be generous with your words.

--yan ang sinabi ni Inday noong di siya pina-utang at pinagmumura pa ng amo niya.

-------------------------------------

I’m so sick and tired of this cruel life! In solitude I always thread this life’s endless road, amidst the spooky, cold and uncertain darkness of the night. Shouting relentlessly at the top of my lungs just to touch your ears and answer your exotic cravings…

--magbabalot, sosyal at depressed, kaibigan ni Inday

I will end this entry with something fit for a Sunday’s consumption. This one is a statement about the OFW household staff.

From the Filipina who made Momma P.I. truly proud:

Q: "What do you say to the people of the world who have typecasted Filipinos as nannies?"

A: "I take no offense on being typecasted as a nanny. But I do take offense that the educated people of the world have somehow degenerated the true sense and meaning of what a nanny is. Let me
tell you what she is. She is someone who gives more than she takes. She is someone you trust to look after the very people most precious to you -your child, the elderly, yourself. She is the one who has made a living out of caring and loving other people. So to those who have typecasted us as nannies, thank you. It is a testament to the loving and caring culture of the Filipino people. And for that, I am forever proud and grateful of my roots and culture."

--Miss International Precious Lara Quigaman (2005)

Hail!

There you go.

Now, Santa, can you hear me? I’ve been good all year. iBook lang please. Promise, I’ll never procrastinate. ;)

I have accomplished to tour Bohol province's places of interest for the nth time, visited my folks in my hometown 15 km. from Chocolate Hills, gone Dolphin watching, snorkelling in Pamilacan island, travelled 5 hours to Cebu Northside, attended a series of seminars and gone under the knife of a surgeon, all in a week's time. POW!

There were highs and there were lows. But to keep balance, the supposedly long weekend, that spans a week, was a tad too wanting.

KICK-OFF: After taming the wild schedule of the quarter--with all the test paper construction and all things in-between as the 2nd quarter ends, I found my way to Hazel's company. Bored with the usual fare of a Friday night, we hailed a cab that brought us to an artist's haven of a cafe in the outskirts of the Cebu Business Park. It was a gig of an unknown artist, a part of the rising lot, I presume. Her dusky complexion did not betray the texture of her voice. On her playlist is a line-up of well-loved folk, rock and country music. Like all black artists' voice, it was soothing. Their group's name escapes me now, but the charm of her voice left a desirable aftertaste like a vintage Bordeux. All the other artists, or somebody that looks like them--hardcore rock fanatics, were congregating next door for the limited engagement type of a gig. It was rather a brief company, but a relatively smooth transition of time, as I ushered the next day to a different adrenaline rush in the island.

DAY ONE: While rummaging through my workstation for a misplaced file, I got a call from my college buddy Amed. He and his future wife Michelle, together with their family on both sides, planned to spend the weekend before halloween in the Republic of Bohol. In such a short notice, I was able to catch up the gang at 9PM, which was dismayed earlier not to get a room at Alona Tropical (my personal favorite in the Alona beachfront). Fully booked as always.

My former colleague Rose, who purposely went to Bohol to celebrate her birthday, had her soiree also in the not so distant Dumaluan Beach. I got the invites as early as September. I promised to drop by on my way to Alona, but did not make it. It was past eight when I parked my dirt bike near the junction. One missed celebration of good food, good company and the good life!

DAY TWO: Taking the island tour is like knowing the back of my hands. I advise the gang to take a stop at the Bohol Bee Farm to sample organic produce. The itinerary was changed last minute. First stop eventually was at the centuries-old Dauis Church. The Gothic in design church, whose facade tries to achieve a replica of St. Paul's Cathedral in Vatican left much to be desired. The interior though, with its vaulted ceiling and all the paintings, looked grand and divine. After we said our prayers to my patroness, Our Lady of the Assumption, we headed near the old convent, then off we go to the Sandugo marker passing through the land bridge that connects Panglao island to Bohol mainland.

Second stop was in the famous Baclayon Church and Museum. I annotated all the information I could recall about the history of the church and the broa--the delicate delicacy whose history dates back to the coral walls of the church.

Then the Chocolate Hills complex beacons as the driver navigated the snaking concrete road. The day's heat made buko juice a must-buy after the climb from the viewing deck.

Off we go to my hometown. The stretch of the dirt road, in between the well-paved one, made the trip a drag. We finally reached my hometown too early for lunch. After meeting my folks and taking lunch, the trip toward the hanging bridge in Loboc, with a stop-over at the man-made forest for a picture-taking was a good breather for our sore bum.

Shooting the falls was next. The boatman assigned to us provided a lot of information about the old town, the captive tarsier, Dagohoy the hero, Panaghoy sa Suba the movie, the river and its composition, as well as its temperance by way of flood and of course, its falls.

DAY THREE: I once thought that Apo island has the best dive spot. I had one, big, huge mistake because right in my home province' backyard lays the great underwater world of Pamilacan. The sudden drop or the underwater cliff is home to a variety of fishes that for a lot of reasons, I need to study marine biology to identify all of them. I was just there, stunned with the beauty of its marine life. Barracudas, anemones, blue ribbon, what have you, perhaps Nemo wasn't there, taking his day-off for the long vacation. I will devote another page of an entry for the beauty of Balicasag after I ease this backpain I have now while typing this entry.

Earlier,  we had to wake up at 5:30AM to prepare for dolphin watching. After 30 minutes in the outrigger, a school of dolphins started to be playful. Finding the best spot to be near them was a whole lot of fun, and chasing to be near them was another.

In the evening, as I checked my email, I was elated to hear that my poems were a part of many shortlists--it's this part in me that seeks validity if I am able to communicate well through sound and imagery. I also seek for another person's viewpoint on the maturity of my persona. Proved effective.

I didn't have the drive to take photos this week. POW!

DAY FOUR: Cebu-bound

DAY FIVE: Seminar-Workshop on Evaluation Tools

DAY SIX: A Seminar for Class Advisers in San Remegio

DAY SEVEN: Surgical Procedure *cringe*

DAY EIGHT: Get to work now kiddo!!!

My back hurts, really. Wooooooooooowowo!

Officially signing off.

In a way it may be creepy.  I'd just like to think that it's sacred ground, hollowed by tradition and the faith of our forefathers.  Wa hinuon ko kahibaw og naa bay wa nag-sapatos didto. It seemed quite peaceful when we went there. :)

Oh, I see. I discovered karon lang that it's a sacred ground. At any rate, I should visit the place again, when the schedule this break is favorable.

Thanks for the info

Btw, i know its rather off-topic (and i do apologize for that), but when are you going to Tibet?

No worries.

Anyhow, once I have saved enough moolah to go to Tubattaha (LOL), then I'm off to saving another moolah to start the Tibet expedition (LOL). These are just in my head, all in my head. Maybe, and maybe, one of these days.

Waxing Crescent

A waxing crescent moonâ€"sometimes called a “young moon”â€"is always seen in the west after sunset. At this moon phase, the Earth, moon and sun are located nearly on a line in space. If they were more precisely on a line, as they are at new moon, we wouldn’t see the moon. The moon would travel across the sky during the day, lost in the sun’s glare. Instead, a waxing crescent moon is seen one day to several days after new moon. It rises one hour to several hours behind the sun and follows the sun across the sky during the day. When the sun sets, and the sky darkens, the moon pops into view in the western sky.

Because the waxing crescent moon is nearly on a line with the Earth and sun, the “day side” is facing mostly away from us. We see only a slender fraction of the day side: a crescent moon. Each evening, because the moon is moving eastward in orbit around Earth, the moon appears farther from the sunset glare. Each evening, as the moon’s orbital motion carries it away from the Earth/sun line, we see more of the moon’s day side. Thus the crescent in the west after sunset appears to wax, or grow fatter each evening.

Note that a crescent moon has nothing to do with Earth’s shadow on the moon. The only time Earth’s shadow can fall on the moon is at full moon, during a lunar eclipse. There IS a shadow on a crescent moon, but it’s the moon’s OWN shadow. Night on the moon happens on the part of the moon submerged in the moon’s own shadow. Likewise, night on Earth happens on the part of Earth submerged in Earth’s own shadow.

You sometimes see a pale glow on the darkened portion (night side) of a crescent moon. This glow is due to light reflected from Earth’s day side. It’s called “earthshine.”

Oh, I see. Thanks for the info dude!

I'm burying my nose lately with books by Mid East mystic, and Rumi, I must say, makes me do the dervish spin  as an aftertaste of reading his works. hahaha

Thanks for sharing, keep cool!

HOLY CAMOLAY!
I want to be here! Yehey!

I think it's the islet they've been talking about, the one near Poblacion in Panglao. I hope I'm not mistaken. In any case, I'll be there the soonest~
#665
O yea!

I missed their lemonade with the "tangad" (lemongrass) in it, and of course! the gumamela salad (adventurous to anything edible, eh!)

and it's a nice place to catch one's sanity, and keep it intact.

I'd have to agree that the place is awesome and well, creepy~

I've been to the place, summer of this year, backpacking with a dirtbike for little comfort--I was planning to traverse the Anda-Candijay road, at the peninsula's tip, but changed my mind when I reached the forested part, way past Lamanoc. Dang! It scared the wits out of me. Only later was I told that it is rebel-infested. Speaking of goin' banana's and almost burst the bubble. Phewww!

Please let me know.

Thanks very much!

Meanwhile, it's nice to be here. 'Hope to "virtually" meet and greet like-minded Bol-anons here.

About Me

roots: from Pilar, Republic of Bohol

PERSONALITY TYPE: INTJ
(Introvert-iNtuitive-Thinking-Judging)

An erstwhile decathlete in the Makati and Cebu corporate rat race, I have stopped catching my breath since then.

Running in the rain, skinny dipping in the moonlight, eating cheesecake and driving in the countryside are gold medals, owning a Van Gogh is platinum, big-time!

Balanced diet, regular exercise, travel and photography, and teaching kids are the elixer of life, the fountain of youth.

Opening doors and offering seats to women and elderly are still hip. Chivalry is still alive!

The smiles of children and the eyes of infants are their gifts to the world.

Widening my horizon means--leaving the country and gaining a multi-cultural perspective and experience in education.

I am proud of my heritage. I still do not lose hope that one day The Philippines will rise to greatness. *stop smiling or i'll pin you down*

My ultimate dream is--to work with UNICEF. *sigh*

In spite of my high venturesome spirit, I am headstrong in my decisions and will sweat bullets, eat and spit fire if necessary.

The pelting sound of the rain is poetry reading to me, the laughter of children are music to my ears.

I have low tolerance toward negative and stubborn people.

Finally, I AM A WORK IN PROGRESS, subject to mood swings from dry to wet season.
