Leonard in particular was superb, calmly draining shot after shot for 17 of his 36 points in the third quarter alone. The effort marked his 15th game of at least 30 points this postseason -- a feat surpassed only by Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kobe Bryant.

"When someone pulls a maneuver like that," Clark added, "It's really hard to slow down or stop or maneuver quickly to avoid the collision."

The Russian version of the story is that the US ship is to blame.

"The US guided-missile cruiser Chancellorsville suddenly changed course and cut across the path of the destroyer Admiral Vinogradov coming within 50 meters of the ship," the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement. "A protest over the international radio frequency was made to the commanders of the American ship who were warned about the unacceptable nature of such actions."

Naval affairs expert Bryan Clark offered some clarity on just how risky this type of situation is, explaining that 50 - 100 feet for a destroyer is comparable to being inches from another car while barreling down the freeway.

"It's really dangerous," he told Business Insider. "Unlike a car, a ship doesn't have brakes. So the only way you can slow down is by throwing it into reverse. It's going to take time to slow down because the friction of the water is, of course, a lot less than the friction of the road. Your stopping distance is measured in many ship lengths."

The Russians are telling a different story, accusing the US Navy of suddenly changing course and cutting across the path of its destroyer. The US Navy has released videos of the incident to back its narrative.

The US and Russia are blaming each other for a close encounter in the Philippine Sea on Friday, when a Russian destroyer nearly collided with a US Navy cruiser.

The US Navy has backed up its version of events with photos and videos.

The US Navy caught a Russian destroyer on video as it closed with a US warship, nearly colliding with the American vessel in a dangerous close encounter at sea.

The Russian destroyer DD572, which Russia identified as the Admiral Vinogradov, closed with the US Navy Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville on Friday, putting the sailors on board at risk, US 7th Fleet said in a statement.

The US Navy says the Russian vessel engaged in "unsafe and unprofessional" conduct at sea. Specifically, it "maneuvered from behind and to the right of Chancellorsville, accelerated, and closed to an unsafe distance of approximately 50-100 feet."

Through four Finals games, Leonard is averaging 30.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from 3-point range. He is operating on the same level as LeBron James and Kevin Durant, where even his off games mean 30-plus efficient points.

Leonard is the rare star who can not only separate his team from the pack but also become a run-stopper when the situation calls for it. Game 4 wasn't won in the first quarter, but Leonard ensured the Raptors didn't lose it.

That's why the Raptors are heading back to Scotiabank Arena just one more win away from the NBA championship.

And so the Warriors have twin motivations for Monday: Win to stay alive and also to play once more at Oracle for a Game 6. Yet at this point, with the dynasty showing cracks, that might be a lost cause.

"I know we're capable," said Kerr. "We've got a lot of talent and got a lot of pride and these guys have been to The Finals five straight years for a reason. They're going to fight the whole way."

Green added: "I've been on the wrong side of 3-1 before, so why not make our own history?"

Well, that now-or-never talk is fine. Yet it's all about the Raptors making history now, and stopping the Warriors' streak in the process. It's all there for the taking for Toronto: One win, a chance to celebrate on the home floor, and a marvelous and striking professional rebound for Kawhi Leonard, who surely will be named Finals MVP should all of the above happen.

Dare we say, it's the Raptors title to lose now.

A title anointed to the Warriors even before the season began.

Well, plenty has happened in the last seven months. And especially the last seven days.

Kawhi imposed his will on the game and his team followed him. He gets the job done.
WARRIORS FORWARD DRAYMOND GREEN

"He imposed his will on the game and his team followed him," said Draymond Green. "He gets the job done."

This is why Kawhi's value to the Raptors is priceless. Until now, Toronto lacked a player with his presence, someone who forced other teams to gameplan differently, someone who seems to thrive when the stakes are highest and is driven in these situations. They didn't have that with DeMar DeRozan or Kyle Lowry, the leaders and best players of those teams that flourished in the regular season and failed in the postseason.

Leonard clearly has the Warriors rattled and their defense stressed whenever he's in isolation or bracing to attack.

"He hit every big shot, every big momentum shot," said Curry.

Just the same, the Kawhi-inspired defense weighed heavily not only in this game but for much of the series. With the exception of Curry's monstrous 47-point outburst in Game 3, Toronto hasn't yielded much from the Warriors — surely, Kevin Durant's absence and Thompson's missed game contributed. Yet the Raptors are floating Leonard around the floor, sneaking in doubles on Thompson and Curry, leaving Green open and encouraging him to shoot, and essentially making it tough for the Warriors to go on a big scoring spree. Toronto has outscored the Warriors in 13 of the 16 quarters of this series.

Hounded by the Raptors' perimeter defense, and maybe gassed from two nights earlier, Curry made only a pair of 3-pointers Friday and never developed a rhythm. And while Thompson returned from his injury with 28 points, he was harmless in the fourth quarter and his team quiet.

"They've been aggressive all series in trying to take space away from me and Klay," Curry said.

As the Warriors and the crowd disappeared from the arena, there was a sense of finality in the air inside Oracle. If the Warriors don't win Monday, then the last memory of their home of nearly six decades will be a deflating one. Instead of dreamy visions of Curry and Thompson and Durant spraying jumpers, it will be Leonard punishing the Warriors and the home team powerless to stop him or from being pushed to the brink.

And speaking of Durant: Coach Steve Kerr has now gone radio silent about his superstar's availability for Monday or beyond. The subject has become tiresome because there's no resolution regarding someone who hasn't played in a month.
#621
Oh, something else: Nick Nurse, the first-year Toronto coach, kept pressing the right buttons with his various defensive schemes and substitutions as Golden State failed to break 100 for the first time this postseason. And the Raptors seized control of the series, ensuring that Scotiabank Arena will be a mixture of tense and hysterical Monday for Game 5 (9 ET, ABC). And that's just from Drake. The crowd will be hyped, too.

This is the moment that the basketball population in Toronto has long awaited, to get a sense something special is about to happen, or at least could. And this was made possible by a former Finals MVP who, this time last summer, was in exile with his reputation, at least in San Antonio, in tatters.

By November, in Toronto, none of that mattered.

"Once we saw him early in the year, your team's vision of who they can become changes," said Nurse.

Leonard is a victory away from another Finals MVP and trophy, and mostly a sense of redemption. His passion and championship drive was evident Friday in two stages, both influential to his team.

He set an example early by showing pep from the opening tip, carrying the Raptors with 14 of their 17 points over the first 12 minutes.

And then, coming out of halftime, Leonard went scorched Earth once again. He posted 17 points and five rebounds in the third, and this time the Raptors lent support. Toronto outscored the Warriors, 37-21, and spent the rest of the game keeping a sneaker pressed on the Warriors' throat. Kawhi tore through the Warriors constantly, totaling 36 points and 12 rebounds. Yet it was his tone that influenced the game just as much, if not more.
#622
You understand exactly what the Raptors did Friday and how it was done? They emerged from the halftime locker room with fire and outclassed a team known for championship pedigree and owning third quarters in the postseason. Kawhi Leonard, who's uplifting a team and a country, began the onslaught with a pair of 3-point jumpers. The Toronto defense, relentless most of the night and throughout the series as well, squeezed the Warriors and especially Steph Curry.

Time after time, Serge Ibaka delivered a counter punch with a key jumper off the pick and roll or a defensive stop. Ibaka had 20 points in 21 minutes in what was his first strong outing from jump to buzzer. Fred VanVleet, felled by a stray Shaun Livingston elbow to the chops in the third quarter, was left bloodied and missing a tooth in a scene that embodied Toronto's grit.

The Raptors simply wore down the more experienced Warriors and Golden State never came up with an answer. Toronto stole the atmosphere — a smattering of red-garbed Raptors fans suddenly cheered louder and stomped harder and stayed buzzed long after the buzzer — and sent the Warriors off the court with heads bowed and egos deflated.

OAKLAND, Calif. — What once began as a fantasy, then progressed as hope and then grew to a reasonable wish has now evolved and crystalized once again. And this time, everyone south of Saskatoon can begin to see it and maybe even buy in.

The Toronto Raptors have the scent of a champion.

This may come as a surprise to the nostrils of anyone who saw them crumble in past postseasons or figured their chances of getting out of the East this season were dicey ... but Toronto just took a pair of NBA Finals games at Oracle Arena — and maybe closed it down in the process. The Raptors are headed home with one game to win and history on their side.

Thirty-four times in The Finals have teams taken 3-1 leads, and they sipped champagne all but once. (Let's not discuss that lone team to lose; the Warriors are suffering enough.)

This latest Raptors victory was impressively convincing, especially considering the circumstances. They stared at a desperate home team, one that welcomed back Klay Thompson after a one-game injury absence ... a two-time defending champion known for rising to the occasion ... and the Raptors dusted them anyway.

7. http:// and https://

Hypertext Transfer Protocol, which is usually shortened to HTTP is a tool that ensures all the content and data for a specific webpage are shown and work correctly in your web browser.

An improved version of this protocol is HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure). Webpages that begin with "https://" have an extra layer of encryption that protects your personal information and passwords from being accessed by others.

This is especially important for e-commerce websites, governmental sites, and online banking because on these sites you use your ID and payment information. So, to know that a web page is secure, look at the URL address of the website and make sure it starts with an "https://" instead of just "http://".

6. E-Commerce

Electronic commerce sites, also called e-commerce, are online businesses that enable their customers to make purchases through a website. E-commerce has exploded in the past few years, and every day, billions of dollars are spent online.

E-commerce sites can either belong to a specific brand and offer a certain kind of goods, or it can be a retailer that usually offers a variety of different goods produced by other companies. eBay and Amazon are some of the most famous online retailers that sell just about anything, but nowadays, most businesses, starting from clothing brands and ending with pharmacies or grocery shops have websites as well.

When shopping online, you will have to enter credit card information or your PayPal information. Before purchasing something from an e-commerce website, make sure their webpage is secure, which we will teach you about below.

Adm. John Richardson, the chief of naval operations, previously described aircraft carriers as a "tremendous expression of US national power." A carrier strike group is an even stronger message. "CSGs are visible and powerful symbols of US commitment and resolve," US European Command said in a statement on Tuesday.

The USS Abraham Lincoln, a mobile sea-based airfield, is the lead ship for the carrier strike group that bears its name and is outfitted with a highly capable carrier air wing.

The US military is deploying additional assets to the Middle East to deter a possible Iranian attack, the Pentagon announced on Friday.

The USS Arlington, an amphibious transport-landing dock used to move troops for expeditionary operations, and a Patriot surface-to-air missile battery are on their way to the US Central Command area of responsibility

These assets will join the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group and the B-52 bomber task force deployed to this region earlier in the week.
The US is sending even more firepower to the Middle East in response to unspecified threats from Iran, the Pentagon announced on Friday.

The USS Arlington, a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock used to move Marines, amphibious assault vehicles, conventional landing craft, and rotary aircraft, and a Patriot surface-to-air missile battery capable of eliminating certain types of incoming missiles and aircraft are on their way to the US Central Command area of responsibility.

The deployment is part of an ongoing effort that began on Sunday to deter a possible Iranian attack on US forces or interests in the region, the Department of Defense said, stressing that the movement of US assets is "in response to indications of heightened Iranian readiness to conduct offensive operations against US forces and our interests."

5. Social Media

Any online media outlet that promotes interaction with other users can be called social media. These sites are free to join, and many of these sites have millions or even billions of users that can connect and interact with each other through a specific social media outlet. Facebook and Twitter are some of the largest social media sites out there, but there are a lot of others, too.

YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, Tumblr, Snapchat and Reddit are all popular social media sites as well. When selecting a social media to join, ask your friends which one they use the most and decide what content you prefer to watch: if videos are your jam, YouTube is your best bet, but if you're more into sharing photos or writing your thoughts, Instagram and Twitter respectively are best for you.

Apart from connecting with friends, social media offers all kinds of entertaining and informative content. Many public officials, community centers and businesses have official social media pages nowadays, which can be very useful. At the same time, beware of hackers and protect the information you share with others by managing privacy settings on your page.

4. Blog

Think about a blog as an online version of a writer's column. Anyone can start a blog, and you can find blogs written both by amateur and professional writers on a vast variety of subjects starting from sports commentary to gossip to tech tips and everything in-between.

Blogs can be a good source of information, but they can also be not so credible, so always be critical and think about whether or not the author is qualified enough to give you advice in a specific field. Like a writer's column, blogs are often written in a more informal style and are very personal, and you can often comment on a blog post in the comments section. Many blogs today are very highly developed and serve as a source of income for their authors.

Daniel Craig will return for his fifth, and final, movie as Bond.

Craig will return as Bond despite saying in 2015 that he'd rather "break glass and slit" his wrists than play Bond again.

Variety reported last year that he'd be paid $25 million for Bond 25.

During an event at James Bond author Ian Fleming's GoldenEye villa in Jamaica, the cast and filming locations for "Bond 25" were confirmed. The movie will take audiences to London, Italy, and more. Daniel Craig's Bond will be joined by returning faces such as Naomie Harris' Moneypenny and Ben Whishaw's Q, and a recent Oscar winner was revealed to be the movie's villain.

"Bond 25" has had a rough journey to this point, though. The movie was pushed back from its original release date this November to next spring after director Danny Boyle exited the project over creative differences. Now, "Killing Eve" creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has joined to polish the script.

It's unknown when the movie's title will be revealed, but for now, here is everything we know about "Bond 25."

3. Web page

A web page is any window displayed through a browser that has a specific URL address. When browsing through the Internet, you're skipping from one webpage to another, much like you would through a page in a magazine. Webpages can contain a variety of different content, such as text, images, videos, links, and advertisements.

Unlike a magazine page, however, the elements of a webpage are dynamic and interactive: you can scroll through the page or click on specific areas that will expand more information or direct you to other related pages. Several related web pages can make up a website.
#644
2. URL

URL is an acronym for the term "Uniform Resource Locators", which, in essence, is an address that your browser uses to find a specific file or webpage on the Internet. These addresses are everywhere on the Internet and in real life. Every time you click on a link on Google, for example, it takes you to a new URL address via a link.Nowadays, anything starting with ads to business cards contain a URL, which usually looks something like this: https://www.ba-bamail.com/. This can be shortened to www.ba-bamail.com, as your browser adds the https:// part called a protocol automatically. As for the ending, it can also be different depending on the type of website you're visiting: .com, .net, .edu or .org and many others exist.
#645
1. Web Browser

Every time you're accessing the Internet to search for something or visit a website, you're using a web browser. Browsers are pre-installed or downloaded software the task of which is to help you navigate through the Internet. Most browsers are free, and you can have more than one browser on your smartphone or computer.

Some of the most popular web browsers are Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

With the rise of the Internet, terms like encryption, cloud computing, and URL have become household words, but we often lack the in-depth understanding of these words, no matter how important and widespread they may be. And it's not our fault either, as most of us weren't taught any of this in school. At the same time, we use the Internet to connect with others, to make purchases and even to manage our banking or healthcare, and not understanding Internet jargon may leave us helpless or, in the worst case scenario, it can even expose us to hackers and identity theft.

If this is about you and you think you're missing some knowledge about Internet lingo, on this list you will find 10 essential Internet terms that every beginner should understand.

British climber Robin Fisher died on Saturday while climbing Everest. In an Instagram post published just days before his death, Fisher wrote "around 700 more people will be looking to summit from Tuesday the 21st onwards... with a single route to the summit delays caused by overcrowding could prove fatal so I am hopeful my decision to go for the 25th will mean fewer people. Unless of course everyone else plays the same waiting game."

In total, when adding the 11 people who've reportedly died in 2019 there have been 306 recorded fatalities on the mountain.

Mount Everest is facing its deadliest climbing season in recent years, with at least 11 people reported dead so far in 2019.

Christopher John Kulish, a 62-year-old American citizen, was the latest casualty on Monday. He died after reaching the top of Everest on the Nepalese side of the mountain, a Nepalese official told Reuters.

While Everest has always been considered dangerous, this year has proven to be particularly devastating — with the recent slate of deaths attributed largely to overcrowding. The crowds have trapped climbers for hours in the mountain's deadly "death zone," where oxygen is limited and the body's cells begin to die. If climbers face too much time in that zone, they risk their lungs or brain filling with liquid.

Warriors beat Raptors 109-104 to even NBA Finals
By BRIAN MAHONEY | AP Basketball Writer

Jun. 3, 2019 12:23 AM ET

TORONTO (AP) The Golden State Warriors relied on a champion's heart to overcome their weary bodies.

Klay Thompson scored 25 points before leaving with a hamstring injury, Stephen Curry had 23 and the Warriors ran off the first 18 points of the second half on the way to a 109-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night that tied the NBA Finals at one game apiece.

With Kevin Durant already out and Thompson eventually joining him in the fourth quarter, the Warriors don't feel great - but they would've felt a whole lot worse flying home in a 2-0 hole.

''I think that when you get to this stage, our DNA shows up,'' Curry said.

Andre Iguodala, himself slow to get up after a hard fall in the first half, made the clinching 3-pointer with 5.9 seconds left after the Raptors scored 10 straight points to cut it to 106-104.

Kawhi Leonard had 34 points and 14 rebounds for the Raptors. They had won five straight since falling behind 2-0 in the Eastern Conference finals.

Curry appeared to be laboring as well in the first half, returning to the locker room in the midst of six straight misses to start the game.

But the Warriors cobbled together a good enough finish to the second quarter to keep it close, then stormed out of the locker room with one of their vintage third-quarter charges that have been so frequent during their run to five straight NBA Finals.

''Third quarter we didn't play well enough. We missed too many shots,'' Raptors guard Kyle Lowry said. ''They got out in transition and got a little confidence going. We lost the game there.''

DeMarcus Cousins was inserted into the starting lineup and delivered 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and Draymond Green had 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists - missing by one assist a fourth straight triple-double.

The series moves to their Oracle Arena for Games 3 and 4, with the first NBA Finals to be played outside the U.S. assured of returning to Canada for Game 5.

The Warriors will hope to have enough healthy bodies to get through it. Thompson landed awkwardly after a 3-point attempt early in the fourth quarter and limped off soon after, with backup center Kevon Looney already missing the second half with a chest or shoulder injury.

And Golden State is still without Durant, who missed his seventh straight game with a strained right calf but hopes to return during the series.

For now, they got key contributions from Quinn Cook, who hit three 3-pointers, and veteran center Andrew Bogut, who wasn't even part of the roster most of the season but came off the bench for three baskets.

''It was a great win. We got to go home and protect our home floor and we'll see about all the injuries,'' coach Steve Kerr said. ''But I'm very proud of our team and in particular all the guys off the bench.''

Kerr said Thompson told him that he thought his injury was minor and he'd be fine, but added that ''Klay could be half dead and he would say he would be fine.'' Kerr was unsure the nature of Looney's injury.

Fred VanVleet scored 17 points for the Raptors, who had red T-shirts with their slogan ''We The North'' hanging on seats around the arena.

The Warriors sure were seeing red, especially Curry, during a mostly miserable first half when they missed 20 of their first 28 shots.

He hung his head and didn't even attempt to run back when VanVleet stole the ball from him and made a layup to give Toronto an 11-point lead with a little more than 2 minutes remaining in the half.

But Curry made two free throws for the final points of the half to cut it to 59-54, then the Warriors came back and pitched a shutout until nearly the midpoint of the third quarter during a series-changing - perhaps season-changing - swing.

Iguodala had five quick points including a 3-pointer that moved Golden State into the lead at 61-59. The surge continued with three straight baskets from Thompson and three more from Green, whose last one capped the 18-0 run that Elias said was the longest to start a half in NBA Finals history and made it 72-59 before Toronto finally got on the board with a 3-pointer with VanVleet with 6:20 remaining in the period.

''They moved the ball really well and were running freely,'' Raptors center Marc Gasol said. ''Once they run freely, everything opens up for them.''

The Warriors had won 12 straight Game 1s and this was their first time playing from behind in the finals since they were down 2-1 to Cleveland in 2015. They showed no signs of concern during the off days, and Thompson suggested part of the problem during their 118-109 loss Thursday was rust after they had nine days off in between series.

Their bigger problem early in Game 2 was the defense of the Raptors. But Toronto - which had a 23-0 advantage in second-chance points - missed a chance to take a comfortable lead into the half and couldn't overcome its 37 percent shooting, with Pascal Siakam going 5 for 18 for 12 points after scoring 32 in the opener.

TIP-INS

Warriors: Curry had his streak of 30-point games snapped at six. Wilt Chamberlain and Rick Barry share the Warriors' postseason record with seven straight. ... Kerr earned his 76th postseason victory, moving past Chuck Daly and Don Nelson.

Raptors: Siakam missed his first three shots, as many as he missed in Game 1 while going 14 for 17. ... OG Anunoby was active for the first time in the playoffs after having an emergency appendectomy April 11, but didn't play.

FAMOUS FAN

President Barack Obama sat next to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver across the court from the Toronto bench, getting a loud ovation and "MVP! MVP!" chants when shown on the overhead video screen and introduced in the second quarter.

The US military is far superior to Iran's in every significant way. Iran's air force consists of about 330 combat aircraft, mostly aging or obsolete US, Chinese, and Soviet models, including American F-14s that predate the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Its navy has about 130 combatant surface ships, along with three diesel submarines, and its troops number a little over half a million, with roughly 350,000 soldiers in the army and another 150,000 in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which the Trump administration has just labeled a terrorist organization.

America's military enjoys state-of-the art weaponry and employs battlefield tactics honed by decades of real-world combat. Iran's ability to modernize its military has been crippled by four decades of sanctions, and it hasn't fought a major war in 30 years.

In a conventional force-on-force war, like the 1991 Persian Gulf War, the US would win in short order, at least on paper. But wars aren't fought on paper, and the last notable tank-on-tank conventional land battle was the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

"There are two ways to fight the United States military, asymmetrically and stupid, and you hope that your enemies pick stupid," former national security adviser retired Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster said at a conference in Washington this month. In 2003, Saddam Hussein picked stupid. Iran would want to avoid that mistake.

If the long history of military conflict teaches us anything, it's that wars, like marriages, are easier to get into than out. War with Iran would be no exception.

On paper, it would hardly be a contest. "It won't be a fair fight," promised Gen. Frank McKenzie this month as tensions flared and the US dispatched warships and bombers in response to unspecified threats from Iran to US interests in the Persian Gulf region.

As the head of US Central Command, McKenzie would be in charge of drawing up and executing the battle plan, assuming he's not micromanaged by the White House.

Even while dismissing as "fake news" a New York Times report that contingency planning called for sending 120,000 US troops to the Middle East, President Trump indicated that his inclination is to go big or go home.

"If we did that, we'd send a hell of a lot more troops than that," he said.

On paper, Iran's military is no match for the US's armed forces.
But Tehran has asymmetric capabilities that it could bring to bear, and conditions on the ground as well as unexpected factors would make any US victory a costly one.

After his frigid second quarter, Curry answered with 13 points in the third. By the end of the third, Golden State had pulled within seven despite committing 10 more turnovers and shooting 10 percent worse than Toronto.
Siakam, meanwhile, continued to dominate in his Finals debut. The Kia Most Improved Player finalist scored 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting in the third quarter. Several of his baskets came even when guarded by Green, who just days earlier had proclaimed himself basketball's "best defender ever."

With a Finals lead at stake, Toronto relied on the depth. Then, Leonard then hit a step-back 3-pointer that pushed the lead back to double digits with 6:21 remaining.
The lead never fell below seven after that, and Lowry — the longest-tenured Raptor on the roster — sealed the Game 1 victory with a 29-foot 3-pointer.

The Raptors now find themselves in a position no other team has enjoyed over the last half-decade: leading the Warriors 1-0 in The Finals.

The Raptors and Warriors swapped the lead seven times in the first quarter, which saw Marc Gasol score eight points. That was an encouraging sign for Toronto, which is 8-1 in the 2019 playoffs whenever he scores at least that much
Curry kept the Warriors in play, scoring 11 points on a flurry of quick-trigger 3-pointers — including the 100th Finals 3-pointer of his career.

Role players made their mark in the second quarter. Simply put, the Raptors had more who did more. Pascal Siakam made his presence felt everywhere. Fred VanVleet kept up his post-baby hot streak. Gasol continued to be an issue for the Warriors' big men, one not even the return of Cousins could solve. By halftime, Toronto enjoyed a 10-point lead.
Curry, meanwhile, had cooled completely. The former two-time Kia MVP shot just 3-for-10 over the first two quarters, a clip only marginally worse than the Warriors' mark (36.6%).

For the first time since 2010, there is a new king of the East. In LeBron James' place stands Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors, who are enthusiastically enjoying their first Finals appearance in franchise history.

If anyone knows how to overthrow defending champs, it's Leonard. The star forward won Finals MVP when the San Antonio Spurs beat the James-led Heat in The Finals in 2014. Leonard and the Spurs led the Warriors by 25 points in Game 1 of the 2017 Western Conference finals — before he went down with an ankle injury that limited him to just nine games in 2017-18.
Now Leonard is in Toronto, the same city where the NBA debuted more than 70 years ago. On Thursday, the spotlight shifted back to Canada for the ultimate showdown between The North and The Bay.

On the other side of The Finals are a familiar set of faces. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and the Warriors ride into their fifth straight Finals appearance — the longest streak since Bill Russell's dynastic Celtics of the 1960s.

Yet as hot as the Warriors (winners of seven straight) have been, questions remain. Kevin Durant would not play in Game 1 due to a strained left calf. DeMarcus Cousins is back, but how he would be reintegrated was unclear.
Amid that uncertainty stands the original core of Golden State's dynasty. Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green entered The Finals playing with the same energy and passion that punctuated their pre-Durant days. Would that be enough to steal Game 1 in Toronto?
