Travel and Tours / Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China
March 20, 2008, 08:02:09 PM
Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China
     Home of Narcessus
Zhangzhou is located on the lower reaches of the Nine-Dragon River, and forms a "golden triangle" with Xiamen and Quanzhou. It is a time-honoured city as well as a well-known "land of plenty".
As early as 5,000 years ago, the ancient Minyue people began to settle here. In 686, the second year of Chuigong in the Tang Dynasty, Chen Yuanguang the Pioneer Saint of Zhangzhou established Zhangzhou Prefecture by the Zhang River, today's Yunxiao, and assumed office as governor. In 786, the second year of Zhenyuan in the Tang Dynasty, it was moved to today's place. In the Ming Dynasty, it was changed to Zhangzhou Fu, the prefecture of the Ming Dynasty. In 1951, it became a city. Today, Zhangzhou has nine counties and a district under its administration which are Xiangcheng, Longhai, Yunxiao, Zhangpu, Shaoan, Dongshan, Changtai, Nanjing, Pinghe and Huaan, covering an area of 12,607 km2 and having a population of 3,760,000.
Zhangzhou is both beautiful and rich. The 33 scenic spots have a long history of reputation, such as Nanshan Temple, Sanping Temple, Ciji Palace, Yundong Rock, Ancient Fortress of the Song Dynasty, and ancient castle of Tongshan. The urban district, Xiangcheng, has always been reputed as the "City of Flowers and Fruits". The narcissus is a speciality of Zhangzhou, so the city is also called "Hometown of Narcissus". The mandarin orange of Zhangzhou, the banana of Tianbao, the Litchi of Qiuhu, the date of Yunxiao, the pomelo of Pinghe and of Huaan are called the "six renowned fruits of the South Fujian" and have won an international fame.
Interestingly, the South Fujian dialect is spoken with local variations tin the counties of Zhangzhou. As Zhangzhou is a major native place of Taiwan compatriots, custom here is quite similar with that in Taiwan; the Jin Song and Xiang Opera share the same origin with the Gezi Opera in Taiwan; there are Taiwan Banana, Taiwan pineapple and even Taiwan Road,...From the city to the countryside, there are marks showing the close relation of Zhangzhou with Taiwan.

The Nine-Dragon River

The winding Nine-Dragon River is the second longest river in Fujian. Its name came from a legend that in the sixth year of Datong in the Liang Dynasty nine dragons were seen playing in the river near Longtan.
The Zhangzhou plain, an alluvial plain of the Nine-Dragon River, is the largest plain in Fujian, and has always enjoyed the laudatory titles of "Barn of the South Fujian" and "Homepage of Flowers , Fruits, Fish and Rice."

Mumian Nunnery

Mumian Nunnery at the foot of Nine-Dragon Hill near Zhangzhou had its name for Mumian Village where the Nunnery is sited. In front of the Nunney stands the Mumian Pavilion, a place where County Magistrate Zheng Huchechen in the the later years of the Southern Song Dynasty executed Jia Sidao.

Hundred-Flower Village

Hundred-Flower Village, about 2.5 km from Zhangzhou City proper in the southern suburb, in a sea of flowers, is a famous spot for viewing flowers. The village was originally called Changfu Village. Since Yongle Period in the Ming Dynasty, villagers have lived by planting and selling flowers. In 1963, Zhu De, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, came here to enjoy the flower show and suggested that the village be built into a "hundred-flowered village". Thus, the village changed its name to present one. Now, villagers have planted more than twenty thousand species of flowers and cultivated more than ten thousand potted flowers and miniature trees, many of which found market abroad.

Mist Cave Rock

The Mist Cave Rock was named so because in rainy days white mist will come out of the stone cave in the mountain. It was said that in the Kaihuang Period in the Sui Dynasty someone raised cranes in the mountain and villagers could often hear the singing of the cranes. So the mountain is also called Crane-Singing Mountain. Viewed from distance, the Mist Cave Rock looks as if it were a man- made miniature scenery. Wandering about in the Mountain, one can see a dazzling variety of stone inscriptions everywhere, which were mostly written by celebrities. Thus, the Mountain is called the "Forest of Inscriptions in South Fujian" and regarded a treasury for the study of the calligraphy in the past.

The Jiangdong Bridge

The Jiangdong Bridge, lying 17km away from Zhangzhou, was first built in the Shaoxi Period during 1190 and 1194, in the Southern Song Dynasty. The original bridge was a pontoon one. There is a legend concerning the building of the bridge. In 1214, the seventh year of Jiading, when the bridge was undergoing a reconstruction, the swift current washed away huge stones meant for the piers time and again. One day, to the builder's surprise, a tiger crossed the river without much difficulty, Then he sited the piers on the tiger's route and succeeded in laying the foundation for the bridge. So the bridge is also called "Tiger Crossing Bridge". The original bridge was rebuilt several times until 1972 when it was changed into a reinforced concrete one. However, the ruins of the original bridge still remain and serve as a material object for the study of ancient Chinese bridges.

The Old Crater at Longhai

The Old Grater at Longhai lies on the shore of Niutou Mountain at Baitang, Longhai County, former Haichen County. According to scientific records, its last erruption dates back to more than 22 million years ago. Today, the dark gray stone columns and walls stick out tilted and overlapped from the crater and emerge and diappear with the tide, displaying the charm of nature.

The Scene at Bachimen(Eight Feet Gate)

Bachimen, a key junction of Dongshan Island and the mainland, was originally a ferry. In 669, during the Zongzhang Period in the Tang Dynasty, Chen Yuanguang led his army to reclaim South Fujian and brought about the prosperity of Dongshan Island. To honour Chen's merits, people called the ferry "Chen Ping Ferry". In 1664, the third year of Kangxi, the Qing government built here an eight-foot-high wall with a fort, so as to cut the connection of the people in Dongshan with an anti-Qing general Zheng Chenggong. Then, Chen Ping Ferry was changed ito Bachimen. In 1960, the People's Government built a dyke here, joining the island to the mainland and making it a penisula. In 1973, on the dyke was builtthe Xiangdong Aqueduct, leading fresh water into the island. The projects of the dyke and the aqueduct have add to the beauty of the island.

Dongshan Island

Dongshan Island is the second largest island in Fujian, a beautiful island well known for its eighteen scenic spots.
Quiet Dongmenyu is surrounded by sea. There is a seven storeyed stone tower, erected in 1526, the fifth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty. Thus the place is also called Tower Islet. The tower is one of the best scenes in Tongshan and serves as a navigation mark as well.

Jokes and Humor / "The Obedient Wife"
March 11, 2008, 11:53:30 AM
There was a man who had worked all his life, had saved all of
his money, and was a real "miser" when it came to his money.
Just before he died, he said to his wife..."When I die, I want
you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I
want to  take my money to the afterlife with me."
And so he got his wife to promise him, with all of her heart,
that when he died, she would put  all of the money into the
casket with him.
Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was
sitting there - dressed in black, and her friend was sitting next
to her.  When they finished the ceremony, and just before the
undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said,
"Wait just a moment!"
She had a small metal box with her; she came over with the
box  and put  it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the
casket down and they rolled it away. So her friend said,
"Girl, I know you were not fool enough to put all that money in
there with your husband."

The loyal wife replied, "Listen, I cannot go back on my word. I
promised him that I was going to put that money into the
casket with him."

You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket   with
him!?!?!?"
"I sure did," said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my
account, and wrote him a check.... If he can cash it, then he
can spend it."

Top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom.

While he's in there, the husband whispers over to his wife, 'Listen,
This guy is an escaped convict. Look at his clothes! He's probably

How he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't

His wife responds: 'He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my
Ear.
He told me that he's gay, thinks you' re cute, and asked if we had any

Jokes and Humor / High-tech pinoy joke
February 27, 2008, 06:07:12 PM
Three men--one American, one Japanese and a Filipino were sitting naked in a sauna. Suddenly there was a beeping sound. The American pressed his forearm and the beep stopped. The others looked at him questioningly. "That was my pager," he said, "I have a microchip under the skin of my arm."

A few minutes later a phone rang. The Japanese fellow lifted his palm to his ear. When he finished he explained, "That was my mobile phone. I have a microchip in my hand."

The Filipino, not to be outdone, decided he had to do something just as impressive. He stepped out of the sauna and went into the toilet. When he returned, a piece of toilet paper was dangling from his behind.

The others raised their eyebrows and stared at him. The Filipino finally said, "Well, will you look at that, I'm getting a fax."

Mike and Larry are walking in the forest when Mike gets bit on his @$$ by a snake. He's afraid the snake is poisonous, so Larry suggests that Mike stays there while he goes to find the nearest doctor, which is a mile away. After a while, Larry arrives at the hospital & informs the doctor that his friend got bitten by a poisonous snake. The doctor says to cut a small "x" where he got bit, and suck the poison with his mouth & spit it out. Soon Larry returns, and Mike asks him "What did the doctor say?"

Larry answered, "He says you're screwed."

Jokes and Humor / A FILIPINO APPLICANT @ WAL-MART
February 10, 2008, 11:44:06 AM
A FILIPINO APPLICANT @ WAL-MART
Check this out...funny

An office manager at Wal-Mart was given the task of hiring an
Individual to fill a job opening. After sorting through a stack
of resumes he found four people who were equally qualified --
an American, a Russian, an Australian and a Filipino.
He decided to call the four in and ask them only one question.
Their answers would determine who among them would get the job.
The day came and as the four sat around the conference room table the
interviewer asked, "What is the fastest that thing you know?"
Steve, the American, replied, "A THOUGHT. It comes without any
warning;
It just pops into your head. A thought is the fastest thing that I know.."
"That's very good!" replied the interviewer.
"And now you sir?" he asked Vladimir, the Russian.
"Hmm.... let me see. A blink! It comes and goes without you knowing
that it ever happens. A BLINK is the fastest thing I know."
"Excellent!" said the interviewer. "The blink of an eye, that's a very
popular clich?for speed."
He then turned to George, the Australian who was contemplating his
reply.
"Well, out at my dad's ranch, you step out of the house and on the wall
there's a light switch. When you flip that switch, the light in the barn
comes on way out across the pasture. Yep, TURNING ON A LIGHT is the
fastestthing I can think of."
The interviewer was very impressed with the third answer and thought
he had found his man. "It's hard to beat the speed of light," he said.
Turning to Eleuterio, the Filipino, the fourth and final man, the interviewer posed the same question.
Eleuterio replied, "Apter herring da 3 preybyus ansers sir, et's obyus
to me dat the fastest thing is Diarrhea."
"WHAT!?" said the interviewer, stunned by the response. The others
were already giggling in their seats...
"Oh, I can expleyn sir," said Eleuterio. "You see, sir, da ader day my
istumach was peeling bad and so I run so fast to the bathroom, but
bepore I could THINK, BLINK, or TURN ON THE LIGHT, sir, I had alreydi shet in my pants!"
Eleuterio is now the new "Greeter" at Wal-Mart.

Is it possible to have a happy marriage after your husband has been emotionally and verbally cheating on you? ..
#5473
I know I have a happy marriage because when we have arguments or dli mi magkasinabot, we always kiss and make up. Nothing is left unsaid. Honesty and communication is our key with every aspect of the marriage. And also we say i luv u to each other everyday...  It is knowing that no matter what you do, you are loved. yea.. We’re happy
#5474

Love Talk / Reply: What Really Is A Friend???
January 29, 2008, 02:30:43 AM
Personally I feel that to be a best friend, you need to be a true friend. A true friend is someone that sticks besides you no matter what you do, how bad or how good. A true friend is someone that will stand up for you when they know that you are right about something but ain’t afraid to put you in your place when they know that you are wrong. A true friend is someone that will stand besides you through all of your battles and never leaves you alone when you are down. A true friend is someone that will laugh when you are laughing, cry when you are crying, and feel what you are feeling. A true friend is someone that will understand you no matter how messed up your way of thinking is and someone that will never hurt you. A true friend is someone that is not afraid to say sorry when they know that they were wrong. A true friend is the one that will take care of you when you are sick or down and out and never leaves your side. A true friend is someone that even when you are miles apart, you know that in your heart they are still right there by your side. That is what I feel about what a true friend is and that is how I would describe my best friends and soulmates: Karen and Maricel (in the Philippines), Ayen (in the U.S.A.) & Mymy (in New Zeland) and Me (in China).

The American Life
Message: Akala ng mga tao na nasa
Pilipinas kapag nasa Amerika ka akala nila madami
kanang pera.
Pag wala kang credit card, ibig sabihin
wala kang kapasidad magbayad.

Aka la nila mayaman kana kase may kotse
kana. Ang totoo, kapag hindi ka bumili
ng kotse sa Amerika maglalakad ka ng
milya-milya sa ilalim ng init ng araw o
kaya sa snow.Walang jeepney, tricycle o
padyak sa Amerika.

Akal a nila masarap ang buhay dito sa
Amerika. Ang totoo puro ka trabaho kase
pag di ka nagtrabaho, wala kang
pangbayad ng bills mo sa kotse, credit
card, ilaw, tubig, insurance, bahay at
iba pa. Hindi ka pwedeng tumambay sa
kapit bahay kase busy din sila maghanap
buhay pangbayad ng bills nila.

Akala nila masaya ka kase nagpadala ka
ng pictures mo sa Disney, Seaworld, Six
Flags, Universal Studios at iba pang
attractions.

Ibig sabihin,
ang dolyar mong kinita sa presyong
dolyar mo din gagastosin. Ang P15.00 na
sardinas sa Pilipinas, $1.00 sa
Amerika, ang isang pakete ng sigarilyo
sa Pilipinas P40.00. sa Amerika $6.50,
ang upa mo sa bahay na P10,000.00 sa
Pilipinas, sa Amerika $1,000.00++

A kala nila buhay milyonaryo kana kase
ang ganda ng bahay at kotse mo. Ang
totoo milyon ang utang mo. Ang bago
mong kotse 5 taon mong huhulugan. Ang
bahay 30 taon mong huhulugan. Ibig
Isang
malaking sakripisyo ang pag alis mo sa
bansang pinagsilangan at malungkot
iwanan ang mga mahal mo sa buhay. Hindi
pinupulot o pinipitas ang pera dito.
Hindi ako naninira ng pangarap gusto ko
lang buksan ang bintana ng
katotohanan!!!
