My goal in life?

That really is a hard question, Mike. Ive been thinking about this question earlier today, and when I think about it all--what really matters in life is our ability to care for our loved ones, raise our children the best way possible and enjoy life in the present, diba?

I guess my main goal in life is to emulate my father; he is my role model, really, he is the best example of a man for me--he is hard working, totally dedicated to his family here and back in the Philippines, loving towards his wife and never forgets to show his love, he is God-fearing, his retiscent character (he is the typical patriarchal figure--and he commands great respect from his family, friends and co-workers in the hospital). He is a man who has gone through so much in life---he lost his own father when he was only 21 y/o when he was still in Engineering school; despite such financial and personal problems associaed with the loss of his father (as my father was the eldest of 7 children!) he remained strong and with the GRACE of GOD, found an Engineering job in Saudi Arabia--where he worked to send the rest of his brothers and sisters to college--and at the same time---stayed loyal to my mother.

They say that a man's character is defined by his works--it really is true, jud. I hope and pray that I become as responsible and decisive as my father---I would like to impress him so that when I am a father in the future, he will smile and commend me. His approval is very important for me...

Travel and Tours / Destination: The Ukraine
September 08, 2007, 05:05:23 AM
I do recommend people to travel and explore the beauties of Eastern Europe. The region, per se, isn't as developed as western europe such as France, Germany, Britain etc, however, it has its own glimmering beauty that has remained untouched by Soviet rule. Here are some areas in The Ukraine that I highly recommend you all visit.

The Federal Capital Region: Kievan Oblast

St. Sophia's Orthodox Cathedral (its a 10th century cathedral that has survived mongol, turkic, russian, french and german invasions)

Kievan Kiast: Sculptures dedicated to Soviet Universality---you can really feel the power of the USSR in sculptural tones.

Inside St. Alexander's Cathedral (built in 1200s---everything inside is original)

++++++++

Carpathian Mountain Region

++++++++

Lviv Western Region: Lvivski Oblast

Rural towns

Lvivian Opera House (Note that the architectural style is similar to Austrian styles of the 19th century---the opera house was built by Austrian architects on behalf of the Russian Czar)

French Piedmont. This statue of 'Lady Freedom' was erected in the early 19th century---by French Legionaires when French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's forces invaded the Russian Empire (which at the time ruled over Lviv--and the domains of present day Ukraine--as well as Russia proper)

Roman Catholic Cathedral in Lviv region---built by French forces during the early 19th century--when France invaded the region.

+++++

More to come!

BEIJING (Reuters) - Two Chinese company executives are being investigated over a disaster last month that killed close to 200 miners in one of the worst accidents to hit the country's coal industry, state media reported on Friday.

Zheng Zhenxiu, the chairman of the privately operated Huayuan Mining Co., and company deputy general manager Zhang Canjun face investigation over the flooding of a coal mine shaft in the eastern province of Shandong that trapped 172 miners, Xinhua news agency reported.

Efforts to pump the shaft dry continue, but officials have said there is no hope of finding any survivors. Another nine miners were trapped by flooding in a nearby shaft.

Shandong authorities "are undertaking a comprehensive investigation" into the disaster, said Xinhua.

The report did not explain the nature of the investigation into the two executives or whether they have been arrested.

But the announcement appears to fly in the face of previous official claims that the mine floods were a "natural disaster."

The miners were trapped when a river dyke burst in torrential rain, sending water rushing into two mine shafts.

Relatives of missing miners have bitterly criticized Huayuan, saying that managers failed to act on warnings about flooding and did not move quickly enough to move the miners from rising waters.

More than 2,000 people have been killed in China's coal mines in the first seven months of this year alone, despite repeated government campaigns to clean up the industry that has long been the world's deadliest.

China's death rate from mining accidents was 70 times that of the United States in 2005 and seven times worse than Russia and India, Xinhua has reported.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australian Prime Minister John Howard said on Thursday he would tell Russian President Vladimir Putin that he would not approve the sale of uranium to Moscow if there was any possibility it could be resold to Iran or Syria.

Howard said he would put Putin "through the ropes" when he meets him on Friday in Sydney on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific leaders' forum.

"The condition on our selling uranium is that we obtain the guarantees necessary to satisfy us that it won't go to Iran and Syria," Howard told local radio.

"We will be taking the Russians through the ropes in relation to any arrangement we have and we will be wanting to satisfy ourselves completely that won't occur," Howard said.

Australia, with 40 percent of the world's reserves of uranium, exports the mineral to 36 nations and hopes to sign a deal with Putin at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies Western accusations he is seeking nuclear bombs, saying Iran's nuclear program is meant to generate electricity.

Iran, the world's fourth largest crude exporter, has said it wants to build a network of nuclear power plants with a capacity of 20,000 megawatts (MW) by 2020 to enable it to export more of its valuable oil and gas.

Russia is Iran's closest major ally and has helped water down international sanctions against Tehran.

Asked by Australian media whether Russia could be trusted not to onsell uranium to Iran, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Moscow was fully aware of concerns about the development of nuclear weapons in Iran.

"I really suspect that the Russians understand the threat of an Iranian nuclear weapon," Rice said late on Wednesday in Sydney.

"Let's remember that Iran is an awful lot closer to Russia than it is to the United State or to Australia. I know that they would be very careful about the proliferation of any material to Iran," Rice said.

Washington accuses Iran and Syria of supporting terrorism and bars both countries from receiving U.S. exports and controls sales of items with military and civilian uses.

Australia recently ended a ban on uranium sales to India, reversing a policy of selling the nuclear fuel only to Non-Proliferation Treaty signatories.

Australia is currently negotiating safeguards for A$250 million ($205 million) worth of uranium exports to Beijing. Japan is also set to sign a deal with Australia to secure uranium for civilian nuclear energy use, Kyodo news agency said on Wednesday.

World Daily News / S. Korea rebuffs Bush; North makes nice
September 08, 2007, 01:14:17 AM
By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 17 minutes ago

SYDNEY, Australia - In an unexpected twist of events, President Bush's bout of diplomacy in Asia hit a snag in dealings with longtime ally South Korea and drew a conciliatory gesture from "Axis of Evil" member North Korea.

Just hours after Bush suffered an awkward moment on Friday with South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun over terms for ending the Korean War, Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill announced a breakthrough in efforts to get North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.

North Korea has invited nuclear experts from the United States, China and Russia into the country to survey and recommend ways of disabling all of its atomic facilities by the end of the year, Hill, the chief U.S. envoy to the communist regime, announced Friday. The team will go next week.

Hill called the overture "another significant step toward the de-nuclearization" of the Korean peninsula.

Bush wraps up his Asian visit on Saturday, meeting with the leaders of Japan and Indonesia, attending a final session of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and then heading home. His weeklong trip started with a surprise visit to Anbar province in Iraq.

He returns to a big week for his Iraq strategy. Congress comes back from its August recess. A key progress report on Iraq will be delivered by Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq. And the president is expected to address the nation on whether he will modify his Iraq strategy.

In an unexpected confrontation, Roh publicly challenged Bush during a picture-taking session to pledge support for "a declaration to end the Korean War." That conflict ended in a truce in 1953, not with a peace treaty, so the two sides technically remain at war.

Bush said North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has "got to get rid of his (nuclear) weapons in a verifiable fashion" for the United States to agree to sign a peace treaty. Roh told Bush he should "be a bit clearer in your message" and Bush shot back "I can't make it any more clear, Mr. President."

By coincidence or design, Hill showed up at a White House press briefing here a few hours later to announce that North Korea appeared to be following through on a promise to rid itself of all nuclear facilities capable of being used for weapons.

"This is the first time we've had real nuclear experts" from the three nuclear states in the six-party talks "go and have a look," Hill said.

Under a deal reached in February after years of negotiations, North Korea agreed to relinquish its nuclear programs, including one that has produced bomb material. In return, Washington agreed to open talks on establishing normal diplomatic relations with the North and to explore removing a terrorism designation for Pyongyang, among other inducements.

The parties to the agreement include China, Japan, Russia and South Korea as well as the U.S. and North Korea.

"This is an idea the North Koreans came up with," Hill said of the plan to let outside nuclear experts in. He said it was hoped that the full dismantling would be completed by Dec. 31.

Meanwhile, the White House played down the testy exchange between the South Korean president and Bush and said the meeting went smoothly. "There was clearly something lost in translation," National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.

And despite Roh's challenge for Bush to make a declaration to end the war, the war was not between the United States and the North but between the North and the United Nations, and Bush alone could not end the war with a simple declaration. "As we say, `all parties involved,' " Johndroe said, when asked about the mechanics of achieving a peace treaty.

In June 1950, the U.N. Security Council, acting on a resolution advanced by the United States, called on its member states to help South Korea repel an invasion by the North.

Bush also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He later told reporters the two leaders talked about missile defense and fishing.

Moscow bitterly opposes a U.S. plan to base an anti-missile radar system in the Czech Republican and interceptor missiles in Poland. Putin has proposed instead that Russia and the United States share a Russian-rented radar station in Azerbaijan and that missiles could be deployed at sea or in nations such as Turkey.

Putin said he and Bush agreed that experts from the two sides should meet again and travel to Azerbaijan.

World Daily News / UK girl's mother considered suspect
September 08, 2007, 01:12:06 AM
By IAIN SULLIVAN, Associated Press Writer
57 minutes ago

PORTIMAO, Portugal - The mother of a British girl whose disappearance sparked an international search is considered a suspect in the case, friends and family said Friday. The girl's aunt said police suggested 4-year-old Madeleine McCann might have been killed accidentally.

Madeleine's mother, Kate McCann, was questioned for more than four hours Friday, her second day of questioning, and family friends said she was expected to be formally declared a suspect under Portuguese law. Earlier, family friend and former spokesman Clarence Mitchell told The Associated Press that police told Kate McCann and her husband, Gerry, that they would both be named as suspects.

Kate McCann left the police station just before 4 p.m. without being charged.

Justine McGuinness, a family spokeswoman, said Portuguese police alleged that Kate McCann might have been involved in her daughter's death. Police summoned the couple after receiving new forensic evidence.

"They believe they have evidence to show that in some way she is involved in the death of her daughter, which is completely ludicrous," McGuinness told British Broadcasting Corp. television.

McGuinness said the allegations related to traces of blood found in a car rented by the McCanns. She said the car was rented 25 days after Madeleine disappeared May 3.

Gerry McCann's sister, Philomena McCann, said police were suggesting Kate might have killed Madeleine accidentally.

"They are suggesting that Kate has in some way accidentally killed Madeleine, then kept her body, then got rid of it," she told Sky News. "I have never heard anything so utterly ludicrous in my entire life."

It has been more than four months since Madeleine disappeared, and Portuguese police have been criticized in Britain for the apparently slow pace of their investigation. Three months after her disappearance, sniffer dogs were brought from Britain and uncovered new evidence â€" reportedly including traces of blood â€" that had been missed in earlier forensic tests.

John Corner, a family friend, told the British Broadcasting Corp. that the listing of Kate McCann as a suspect gave him "an uncomfortable feeling that the police are not looking outward" for Madeleine's abductor.

On the Web site http://www.findmadeleine.com, Gerry McCann said any suggestion "that Kate is involved in Madeleine's disappearance is ludicrous."

"We will fight this all the way, and we will not stop looking for Madeleine," he wrote.

Under Portuguese law, the legal move grants certain protections to suspects, but allows police more latitude in questioning. Police also have to show suspects whatever evidence they might have against them.

Kate and Gerry McCann, both doctors from central England, have spearheaded an intense media campaign since Madeleine disappeared May 3 from the holiday apartment in the Algarve where she was sleeping with her 2-year-old twin siblings. The parents say they were at dinner at the time at a nearby restaurant, but were checking on the children frequently.

The McCanns toured Europe with photos of Madeleine, even meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. Celebrities including J.K. Rowling and David Beckham made public appeals that helped the family raise more than $2 million.

Kate McCann was questioned for 11 hours on Thursday at a police station in Portimao, a town in Portugal's Algarve region, and faced a media scrum as she returned for more questioning Friday morning.

The couple have maintained their innocence throughout.

The McCanns "continue to deny absolutely they had anything to do" with their daughter's disappearance, Mitchell said.

He said Kate McCann had found the police questioning "grueling."

"It's very intense, but she's remaining strong and determined to prove that they had nothing to do with their daughter's disappearance and they are innocent victims of the crime," he told The Associated Press.

Family spokesman David Hughes said police had told Kate McCann they wanted to ask 22 questions, but had not said what they were.

Police spokesman Olegario Sousa said authorities have received some results from forensic tests of the apartment, but declined to elaborate on the findings.

The tests â€" on specks of blood, clothing and other objects in the apartment â€" were conducted at a British laboratory.

Mitchell said the McCanns had not been informed of the results of the tests.

The couple's cause, and their apparent strength in the face of adversity, has hit a nerve among millions, who have followed their lives as they cared for their other children and attended a local church in Praia da Luz, the seaside town where Madeleine disappeared, and where they stayed ever since. Photographs of the bright-eyed, fair-haired girl have been posted throughout Europe and elsewhere.

The publicity has helped lead to numerous reported sightings of the girl, from as far away as northern Europe and Morocco, amid speculation she might have been taken by an international pedophile ring.

Just after Kate McCann entered the police station Thursday, another family representative read out a statement from her appealing to what she called Madeleine's abductors to "do the right thing."

"It is not too late. Please let her go or call the police," she said.

The only formal suspect until now has been Robert Murat, who lives with his mother near the hotel from which the girl disappeared. He has always maintained his innocence.

Sousa said he was prohibited under Portuguese law from discussing the case, but Murat's status as a suspect had not changed.

QuoteOnic unsa man ka doktor? o pastor???

Hahaha id like to think that I'm a religious student scientist. Science--in all its wonders: biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, neurophysiology--all of which I love---is a mere manifestation of my Lord's greatness and infinite wisdom. He gave me, a lowly and humble man, the ability to understand some of his great works. I glorify him each and every day for his blessings upon me--and his creations to the world.

Scientists unravel the codets of the ancients--or analyze specific enzymes--or test different kinds of chemicals and their pervasive effects to a certain test subject. However, think about it this way---even as we, humans, like to glorify ourselves in our ability to understand science--------all of these chemicals, fossils, bio matter etc it has always been here. Even before we were able to think or understand concepts of law, science, materia etc---all was already provided by HIM.

Mao na ang ahong view.

asa man gud diay imong place dodong? *joke*  ;D

I'm attracted to intelligent women myself, not that I'm a lezbot ha.  ;D

But I've realized, sa nagka edaran nako, that intelligence in itself is not attractive kung ang batasan ngil-ad. There are so many smart women who are also major b**ches.

hahahahahahahha oi jatiiii! sure ba ka ma'am? buotan ba ko??? haha, pero tinuud jud what you said ma'am C2, personality does count pood---pero there should be a balance ug personality, intelligence and looks. Kai..if the girl only has personality-----too nice becomes a problem...siguro uwag-uwagon nang baji---di pood na maayo. Diba? :D  Ug good looks ra and walay yamo ug brayns sa ulo---then only good for one reason: sa tug-tug ra.

Naa raba baji sa ahong class nako--smart jud siya pero b#tchy siya kastanan---pero sexy man lagi. Dominating siya---pero you know...some men like dominating women.....

Philippine Laws / Philippine shares rebound
September 06, 2007, 03:32:05 PM
MANILA, Philippines (AP) = Philippine shares rebounded Wednesday, led by Manila Electric Co., with an advance on Wall Street overnight aiding the recovery.

The 30-company Philippine Stock Exchange Index gained 130.05 points, or 0.9 percent, at 3,342.35, after retreating 1.7 percent Tuesday.

"Last month's drop has been tremendous and the market is now recovering part of that,'' said Summit Securities President Harry Liu.

He cautioned that security concerns linked to the upcoming verdict in the six-year plunder trial of deposed President Joseph Estrada were "starting to be factored in by the market.''

Meralco led the advance, surging 7.8 percent at 83 pesos, as the power distributor bounced from steep falls caused by a lower-than-expected tariff hike.

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. climbed 1.7 percent at 2,710 pesos, in line with a rise in the company's American depository receipts.

Gainers led decliners 73 to 37, while 52 stocks were unchanged.

Russian President Vladimir Putin (2nd L) walks after being welcomed by Indonesian officials upon his arrival at the Halim Perdanakusumah Airport in Jakarta. Putin arrived here with a large delegation of energy, banking and weapons magnates for a one-day visit to boost trade and economic ties with this world's fourth-largest nation.(AFP/Ahmad Zamroni)

JAKARTA (AFP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Indonesia Thursday to discuss lucrative deals on weapons and natural resources, with a slew of agreements set to be signed.

In his first trip to the world's most populous Muslim nation, Putin will see energy and mining deals inked, as well as a one-billion dollar credit line established for Jakarta to buy Russian military hardware, officials said.

The Russian president, who is accompanied by a large delegation of energy, banking and weapons industry representatives, was due to meet with his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at midday (0500 GMT).

Delegations from the two countries will hold parallel talks during the one-day trip.

"The president (Yudhoyono) will talk about bilateral matters, especially how to step up economic cooperation in trade and investment," Yudhoyono's spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said, adding that defence cooperation was also on the agenda.

Among the deals set to be sealed is a memorandum of understanding on a joint venture between Russia's Rusal aluminium giant and Indonesian nickel and gold miner Antam, for setting up an aluminium smelter in West Kalimantan province.

The signing of a one-billion-dollar credit arrangement for Jakarta to buy Russian military hardware is also expected following Indonesia signing a memorandum of understanding on buying six Sukhoi-30 fighter planes at a Moscow airshow last month.

Russian oil major Lukoil is also expected to sign a deal with Indonesia's state-owned energy firm Pertamina on exploration of onshore and offshore fields.

Putin is slated to address the Indonesia-Russia business forum and attend a banquet before flying to Sydney for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. He is then due to fly to the United Arab Emirates.

The Kremlin leader's tour is seen by analysts as part of a Kremlin strategy of expanding diplomatic influence in Asia and the Middle East on the back of Russia's thriving arms trade and growing importance as an energy power.

Indonesia meanwhile is seen as seeking to reduce its dependence on US weaponry.

Military relations between Jakarta and Washington have been improving after a long period in which they were suspended because of the Indonesian military's human rights record, but Jakarta has been pursuing a broader military strategy.

The Kremlin leader's visit to Indonesia reciprocates a trip to Russia by Yudhoyono in December last year.

Trade between the two nations is relatively modest, with Russian exports largely limited to defence and Indonesia mainly exporting agricultural commodities in return.

Indonesia non-oil and gas exports to Russia totalled 273 million dollars in 2006 and Russian imports were worth 416 million dollars.

Reportedly accompanying Putin was the chairman of Lukoil, Vagit Alekperov, billionaire investor Vladimir Yevtushenkov, the head of the Russian nuclear agency Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko, among other business leaders.
