You're too young to think about going 'home', Ate Belle. Way too young, you're about the same age as my mommy--and I personally think mom is very young (40s na siya) and always with her projects in the garden, pool, yard work, building house in bohol, family support, etc etc. You have a great husband and a great nick in the arts, oi! You'd make a great mom, believe me. :) :)
In fact, i want mommy to live up to 100, hahaha, if the good Lord is willing to bless us. Kai i cannot imagine living my life without my mommy----i love her--im her first baby--and she is my one and only. :)

And besides, we didnt even go fishing together yet, LOL!

Mao jud wat ate' C said "Life life today not tomorrow". Enjoy it!

Here is another favorite, though it is Japanese.

The song is sung by Hideaki Tokunaga in the late 1980s and is the original version of Mike Ito's "Ikaw Pa Rin".

Love this song...

Make sure pood to visit a Podiatrist kai maka inspect na sila if naa bay ingrown toenail infection--maka debilitating ra ba na--as it is common to have primary, secondary and tertiary infection in a wounded area of the nailbed. Specially if you walk around th grass/wooded area barefoot and if you have a wounded toe---ma result in sulcus growth or footworm/hookworm infection.

Keep your bodies clean, guys, and most especially never to forget your feet.

It all boils down to economics and demographics.  There are more Hispanics than there are Filipinos in the USA and it has been estimated that by 2016 they will outnumber African-Americans as the leading minority culture in the US.  Though Hispanics have varying ethnicity (Mexican, Spanish, Colombian, Puerto Rican, etc.) they all speak one language.  Whereas, though we may be classified as Asians, our languages (kay daghan ra ba jud) are distinct from that of other Asian countries.  Producing Filipino music in the US would be far less profitable for the players of the American music industry than producing Latin music.

Very true, also the Filipino is also fond of English versions, no?

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Thousands of foreign workers, mostly Bangladeshis, have been forced to camp in the car park of Kuala Lumpur's international airport while waiting for their employers, a report said Saturday.

The Star newspaper said the immigration department had turned a section of the car park into a temporary shelter for the foreigners and that more permanent facilities are being built there.

An immigration counter had been set up to process visas and paper work for employers and agents, it said.

One worker, Bangladeshi Kho Kan, told the daily that he had arrived two days ago with 24 other men who had been told they would be working in Malaysian factories.

"We have to use our own money to buy food while waiting for our agent to pick us up," he said.

An agent who came to the airport to collect 50 workers said that delays were often caused by miscommunication between agents in Malaysia and Bangladesh.

"Some agents had no idea that their workers had arrived, so they wee not here to pick up the workers. If agents fail to show up within seven days after the arrival of the workers, the workers would be deported," he told The Star.

TAIPEI (AFP) - Hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese will take to the streets on Saturday to boost the island's latest bid for United Nations membership ahead of next week's annual General Assembly.

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) hopes half-a-million people will join a rally in the southern city of Kaohsiung to promote a referendum on applying to join the UN under the name "Taiwan."

President Chen Shui-bian and DPP presidential candidate Frank Hsieh are expected to use a videolink to address overseas Taiwanese groups gathering in front of the UN headquarters in New York, the party said.

"We urge the public to participate in the event to support the UN membership referendum, to voice their wishes to the world and let the world see Taiwan," DPP chairman Yu Shyi-kun said.

The opposition Kuomintang (KMT) party estimates 100,000 people will attend a separate rally in the central city of Taichung.

The KMT is also calling for a return to the UN and is proposing its own referendum on whether should the island should push to join as the "Republic of China," its official title, or "Taiwan."

Some 15 of Taiwan's 24 allies have proposed the island's membership application to the General Assembly, which will decide whether to discuss it when the annual session opens on September 18.

The independence-leaning Chen has repeatedly vowed to press ahead with the planned vote despite warnings from Beijing and Washington, which says the move is move provocative and could heighten tensions in the region.

In a speech this week, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas J. Christensen said Washington "must strongly oppose" the vote, fearing downsides for both Taiwan and the US which is treaty-bound to protect the island.

"The frustrating truth is that needlessly provocative actions by Taipei strengthen Beijing's hand in limiting Taiwan's space and scare away potential friends who might help Taiwan," Christensen told the US-Taiwan Defense Industry Conference in Annapolis.

Chen on Thursday defended the referendum, saying it would not alter the cross-strait status quo or imply a change in the island's official name.

Names and titles are highly sensitive in the row between Taiwan and China, which split after the end of a civil war in 1949.

The island, under its official name the Republic of China, lost its UN seat to China in 1971.

Its efforts to rejoin the world body using its official name have been repeatedly blocked by Beijing, which regards Taiwan as part of its territory awaiting reunification.

World Daily News / Japan launches moon probe
September 15, 2007, 02:47:42 PM
By CARL FREIRE, Associated Press Writer
Thu Sep 13, 9:59 PM ET

TOKYO - Japan's space agency launched its much-delayed lunar probe Friday, beginning what it calls the largest mission to the moon since the U.S. Apollo flights.

The Selenological and Engineering Explorer â€" or SELENE â€" probe was launched aboard one of the space program's mainstay H-2A rockets from its launch-pad on remote Tanegashima island.

Footage of the launch carried live over the Internet showed the rocket racing upward through slightly hazy skies to the southeast. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said the craft's engines and navigation systems appeared to be operating normally.

The launch of the $279 million SELENE probe came four years behind the agency's original schedule. Japan launched a moon probe in 1990, but that was a flyby mission, unlike SELENE, which is intended to orbit the moon.

It canceled another moon shot, LUNAR-A, that was to have been launched in 2004 but had been repeatedly postponed because of mechanical and fiscal problems.

A mid-August launch date for the SELENE also had to be scrubbed after some improperly installed components were discovered that required replacement.

The SELENE project is the largest lunar mission since the U.S. Apollo program in terms of overall scope and ambition, outpacing the former Soviet Union's Luna program and NASA's Clementine and Lunar Prospector projects, according to Japan's space agency.

It involves placing the main satellite in orbit at an altitude of about 60 miles and deploying the two smaller satellites in polar orbits. Researchers will use data gathered by the probes to study the moon's origin and evolution.

The main orbiter will remain in position for about a year.

World Daily News / Quakes, aftershocks worry Indonesians
September 15, 2007, 02:46:06 PM
By ANTHONY DEUTSCH, Associated Press Writer
Fri Sep 14, 11:28 PM ET

PADANG, Indonesia - Days of colossal earthquakes and tsunami warnings have forced traumatized Indonesian villagers to seek safety in the last place imaginable: graveyards.

With only plastic sheeting to keep her family dry, Dasima joined hundreds camping in the mud between headstones on the flat, high ground, far from the ocean's reach.

"I am very afraid of another tsunami," the 50-year-old said two days after an 8.4-magnitude temblor sent a towering wave into her remote fishing village. "We will stay here until we feel it is safe."

Seismologists warn, however, the worst may be yet to come.

Kerry Sieh of the California Institute of Technology has spent decades studying the fault line that runs along Indonesia's western coast. He is among several experts predicting a repeat of the powerful earthquake that triggered the 2004 Asian tsunami, which killed more than 230,000 people in a dozen Indian Ocean nations.

"No one can say whether it will be in 30 seconds or 30 years," he said. "But what happened the other day, I think is quite possibly a sequence of smaller earthquakes leading up to the bigger one."

Wednesday's quake shook four Southeast Asian countries, damaged hundreds of houses and spawned a 10-foot-high tsunami. At least 17 people were killed. A series of powerful earthquakes and dozens of strong aftershocks followed â€" including one measuring 7.8 and another 7.1.

The wall of water that slammed into several fishing villages along Sumatra island's coast Wednesday swept away nearly a dozen houses, but overall damage was "minimal," Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said after an air force aerial survey.

A nine-member U.N. assessment team reached the same conclusion after visiting the area, saying that a major international relief operation was not required, John Holmes, the U.N.'s emergency relief coordinator, said in a statement from New York.

Many people said a public awareness campaign launched after the 2004 tsunami paid off, including warnings issued over mosque speakers and training provided by local officials on how to escape a disaster.

"When the earth started shaking, some people yelled, 'It's time to go up the hill ... Let's get going," said Fadil, 35, a father of two, describing how he and hundreds of neighbors watched from above as the 10-foot wave approached. Hundreds of houses were damaged, but no one died.

Elsewhere, however, electricity blackouts prevented some sirens from going off.

The latest quakes â€" together with the 9.0-magnitude temblor in 2004 and an 8.7 quake in early 2005 â€" deeply concern experts.

The fault, which runs the length of the west coast of Sumatra about 125 miles offshore, is the meeting point of the Eurasian and Pacific tectonic plates, which have been pushing against each other for millions of years, causing huge stresses to build up.

"There is a strong indication this foreshadows the big one," said Danny Hillman, an earthquake specialist at the Indonesian Institute of Science. "We all agree there is an 8.5 or stronger earthquake waiting to happen."

That's exactly what residents along Sumatra's western coast, which is expected to bear the brunt of the next disaster, are worried about. The island was hardest hit by the 2004 tsunami, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the deaths.

In the fishing village of Sungai Pisang, just south of the badly damaged city of Padang, hundreds of people were too scared to return home after the recent tremors sent a large wave washing into their bay.

Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, with a population of 235 million people, is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.

World Daily News / Japan PM race between Aso and Fukuda
September 15, 2007, 02:45:04 PM
By ERIC TALMADGE, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 27 minutes ago

TOKYO - The race to replace outgoing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe narrowed to two candidates Saturday as the ruling party said its conservative No. 2 leader and a dovish party stalwart who favors warmer ties with Asia will run.

Declaring their intention to run in the Sept. 23 party leadership election were ruling party Secretary-General Taro Aso, a former foreign minister whose acerbic comments about China have drawn protests from Beijing, and Yasuo Fukuda, a former chief Cabinet secretary who opposes visits by prime ministers to a controversial war shrine.

Abe announced suddenly this week that he would step down and then was hospitalized for exhaustion.

Both candidates are longtime officials of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, and are likely to follow Abe's pro-U.S., pro-reform platform.

Aso, however, quickly moved to distance himself from Abe, who lasted only a year in office and suffered a series of setbacks over scandals and gaffes involving his Cabinet ministers.

He also called for an "open" selection process, referring to criticism that the selection of the next prime minister was essentially a matter of negotiation between ruling party factions, rather than a democratic contest.

"It is my duty to shed the image that the LDP is going backward," Aso said.

Aso, who as foreign minister was a high-profile member of Abe's Cabinet, has long been seen as a likely prime minister, but Fukuda seemed to be gathering support. After announcing his intentions Friday, he won immediate backing from several party heavyweights, putting him in the front-runner position.

Fukuda also led Aso in a public opinion poll conducted by Kyodo News agency released late Friday.

Fukuda said he was moved to seek office because the party is in crisis. "This is an emergency situation, so I will do what I must do," he told supporters. "I have a strong sense that I should do this for the country, to move Japanese politics forward."

Party officials said a vote will be taken Sept. 23 to formally name Abe's successor as party leader. The winner is assured election as prime minister by Parliament because of the Liberal Democratic Party's majority in the powerful lower house.

It was unclear if any other ruling party members would run. The deadline for filing a candidacy is Saturday.

Aso, 66, and Fukuda, 71, both come from a line of politicians.

Fukuda's father was Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, and Aso's grandfather was Shigeru Yoshida, a pivotal prime minister in the 1950s.

Ideologically, however, they tread different paths. Aso hews to sharply conservative views, and once suggested that Taiwan benefited from being colonized by Japan in the first half of the 20th century. He also drew protests from Beijing for saying that China was a military threat.

Fukuda is a dovish critic of Abe's government and favors tighter relations with Japan's Asian neighbors, while opposing prime ministerial visits to the Yasukuni war shrine, which critics such as Beijing accuse of supporting militarism.

The leadership upheaval comes as the ruling party is facing increasing calls for snap elections in the lower house.

Opposition Democratic Party of Japan leader Yukio Hatoyama said it was fruitless at this point to allow the Liberal Democratic Party to choose the next prime minister on its own.

"The prime minister will not have the mandate of the people," Hatoyama said. "We should hold elections as soon as possible to judge the will of the public."

The voters appear to agree.

Fifty percent of respondents to an Asahi newspaper poll favored a lower house election â€" up 11 percentage points from a previous poll at the end of July. The poll of 1,029 people said 41 percent supported the opposition, while 33 percent favored the Liberal Democratic Party. As is customary in Japan, no margin of error was provided.

Meanwhile, about 28 percent of respondents to the Kyodo poll said they think Fukuda would be the best choice as prime minister, while 18.7 percent supported Aso. Respondents were asked to choose from a list of Liberal Democratic Party politicians. Kyodo interviewed 1,059 eligible voters Thursday and Friday by telephone.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Kaoru Yosano assured reporters Friday that Abe would hold power until a successor takes charge, despite spending the next few days in the hospital.

BEIJING - China has ordered judges to use the death penalty more sparingly by showing leniency for murderers who cooperate with authorities and white collar criminals who help recoup their ill-gotten gains, the government said Friday.

The order is the latest effort by Beijing to reform capital punishment in China, which is believed to carry out more court-ordered executions than the rest of the world combined.

"Capital punishment should only be given to an extremely small number of serious offenders," said a statement posted Friday on the Supreme Court's Web site explaining the new order. The order was issued to provincial courts on Wednesday, it said, without releasing the full text.

When possible, the statement said, judges should sentence an offender to death but with a two-year reprieve â€" a penalty often commuted to life in prison if they behave well in jail.

The order said crimes of passion, such as the murder of a family member or neighbor, should not automatically result in the death penalty if compensation is paid to the victim's family. Those convicted of economic crimes should also receive lighter penalties if they help authorities recover the money, it said.

China regularly executes people for economic, nonviolent and political crimes.

On Tuesday, a former official with the Agriculture Bank of China was executed for taking bribes and embezzling bank funds worth about $2 million, according to local media.

In July, the country's former top drug regulator was executed for taking millions of dollars in bribes to approve substandard medicines, including an antibiotic that killed at least 10 people.

China doesn't officially release death sentence figures.

Amnesty International says China executed at least 1,770 people in 2005 â€" about 80 percent of the world's total. But the true number is thought to be many times higher.

While the Supreme Court order called for greater restraint in ordering executions, it still upheld the use of the death penalty as a deterrent.

"We must hand down and carry out immediate capital punishment in regard to heinous cases, with ironclad evidence that result in serious social damage," it said.

An amendment to China's capital punishment law, enacted in November, requires the Supreme People's Court to approve all death sentences, ending a 23-year-old practice of giving the final review to provincial courts.

The change followed reports of executions of wrongly convicted people and criticism that lower courts arbitrarily impose the death sentence.

HYDERABAD, India (AFP) - Police in India's high-tech southern city of Hyderabad said they had called in thousands of reinforcements fearing fresh violence during major Hindu and Muslim religious events.

The city was rocked by bombings last month which killed 43 people, while bomb attacks on a mosque in May left 11 people dead.

Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state, is home to the India headquarters of several hi-tech firms.

"Fifteen thousand policemen from the neighbouring districts have been deployed to assist the 8,000-strong city police," senior police official B. Reddenna told AFP on Friday.

"For the first time in 27 years, the Ramadan and Ganesh festivals come together. They are important festivals for both communities. As it is, it is not tense but the smallest incident may cause the greatest trouble," he said.

On Friday Muslims began the fasting month of Ramadan, while on Saturday Hindus begin a 10-day festival celebrating the elephant god Ganesh.

Security has also been stepped up in the western financial and entertainment hub of Mumbai, another city where police see a high risk of terror attacks and communal violence.

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto will return home on October 18 after more than eight years in exile, a senior aide said on Friday, but the government said she had to face corruption charges.

Bhutto faces a slew of such charges and possibly arrest. But she has been in talks with President Pervez Musharraf about the chance of sharing power after a general election due around the end of the year.

"Benazir Bhutto will be landing in Karachi on October 18," Makhdoom Amin Faheem, vice chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, led by Bhutto, told a news conference.

Asked about the possibility of her arrest, Faheem said: "We are ready to face any situation. We can handle any eventuality."

The developments will be closely watched in Washington and other Western capitals. Pakistan under Musharraf has been an important ally in U.S.-led anti-terrorism efforts.

Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani said Bhutto could return home, but told Reuters: "The law will take its course. She has to face corruption cases pending against her in the courts."

Earlier this week, authorities bundled off another former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, to Saudi Arabia hours after he landed at Islamabad airport following a seven-year exile.

But Sharif is the man Musharraf ousted eight years ago, whereas Bhutto is a potential ally.

Sharif's brother Shahbaz expressed dismay at the idea of a power-sharing deal. "The struggle for democracy and the rule of law will be deeply hampered by this arrangement between Musharraf and Benazir," he told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp from London.

Faheem said on-off talks with Musharraf were again in limbo, but didn't rule out some understanding being reached.

"In democracy, the door for talks is never shut," he said.

Musharraf and Bhutto have been trying for months to secure a pact that would help him get a second five-year presidential term and allow her to return without fear of prosecution.

A presidential election by the national and provincial assemblies is due sometime before October 15.

Musharraf has seen his authority eroded and popularity dwindle since an unsuccessful attempt to fire the country's chief justice in March.

Analysts say he needs support from a mainstream party to retain the presidency -- the trouble is he has marginalized both the PPP and Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League faction.

PERSONALITY COUNTS

But while Musharraf and Bhutto share progressive, liberal leanings, and the United States appears to be encouraging moderate forces to coalesce, there are serious doubts about how long the two strong personalities could work together.

Bhutto's first condition is that Musharraf should quit the army and become a civilian president, but she also wants the law amended so she can become prime minister for a third time.

And having been sacked twice before in the 1990s, she wants some check on presidential powers to fire a prime minister.

To add to the difficulties, Musharraf's current political friends fear they could be sidelined by any deal with Bhutto.

The ruling coalition is mainly made up of the rump of Sharif's party and defectors from Bhutto's party.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Railways Minister and a close ally of Musharraf, said most issues with Bhutto, including Musharraf's army role, had been settled and the sticking point was the ban on a person becoming prime minister for a third time.

"The president has made up his mind on (the) uniform and he will speak out his mind at an appropriate time," he said.

Meanwhile, Musharraf faces a raft of legal challenges in the Supreme Court, regarded as hostile since his ill-fated attempt to sack the chief justice.

A nine-member bench of the Supreme Court is due next week to begin hearing a petition against Musharraf's bid to stand for a second term, and his right to be president and army chief at the same time.

If the case goes against him, and he still has no deal with Bhutto, Musharraf could put off his reelection for at least three months by dissolving the National Assembly and seeking a mandate from the next parliament.

In a worst case scenario, he could impose emergency rule extending the tenure of the parliament and postpone elections.

ROME (Reuters) - Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir said on Friday his government was willing to observe a ceasefire in Darfur from the start of peace talks with the rebels next month.

Bashir was speaking on a visit to Rome that has drawn criticism in Italy and abroad. The Sudanese leader also met Pope Benedict, who stressed respect for human rights and religious freedom in the vast African country.

Bashir said he hoped the October 27 peace talks in Libya would be the last of their kind and finally end a four-year conflict in the western Sudan region which foreign experts estimate has killed 200,000 people and driven another 2.5 million from their homes. Khartoum disputes the figures.

"We have given our government's willingness for a ceasefire from the start of the peace talks," he said through a translator at a news conference with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi, who called it a strong and important signal for peace.

Prodi, who has been criticized by European parliamentarians and Italian politicians for hosting Bashir during his rare trip to Europe, said he used the meeting to underline the "strong concerns" of the international community over the crisis.

The Sudanese president in turn urged Europe to pressure rebel leaders to attend the peace talks in Libya. He also maintained the situation in Darfur had improved and called for an easing of sanctions.

A ceasefire was agreed in April 2004 but has been violated frequently, with fighting blamed on government troops, rebels and Janjaweed militias.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has urged all parties to end the violence immediately and prepare for the deployment of 26,000 U.N.-African Union peacekeepers.

A potential obstacle to the Libya talks is Paris-based rebel leader Abdel Wahid Mohamed el-Nur, founder of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army, who has set conditions for taking part. Rebel commanders urged him on Friday to attend.

Amid reports that Nur had dismissed Bashir's ceasefire offer, the Sudanese president told another news conference late on Friday some rebel factions were "not ready to obtain peace." The rebels were increasingly fragmented, he added.

One Darfur rebel leader, Suleiman Jamous, was flown out of Sudan on Friday for medical treatment in Kenya after having been under effective house arrest at a U.N. hospital for 15 months.

Jamous, the humanitarian coordinator of the Sudan Liberation Movement, is respected in Darfur and considered a consensus builder who could help peace efforts and unify rebel groups.

"NO RED CARPET"

Sudan's predominantly Arab and Muslim government also signed a peace deal with the mainly Christian and animist south in 2005, ending more than two decades of conflict between the country's northern and southern regions.

The southern region has resisted attempts by the north to impose Islamic law on non-Muslims and the Vatican has formally protested at the treatment of Christians in Sudan. Khartoum denies repression of the mainly Catholic Christian population.

The visit on Friday was Bashir's first to the Vatican but not his first meeting with a pontiff. Pope Benedict's predecessor John Paul II in 1993 used unusually direct language on human rights to the Sudanese leader, who came to power in an Islamist-backed coup in 1989.

Bashir's visit has also stirred opposition within Italy from local human rights groups and some politicians.

A group of European parliamentarians led by Britain's Glenys Kinnock said it was surprised and concerned that Prodi would welcome a man "primarily responsible for the slaughter in Darfur."

Prodi's government -- which has agreed to send aid and helicopters, train troops and give financial support to peacekeeping operations in the region -- said the visit was useful in underlining the world's concerns on Darfur.

Bashir was asked why his government was not disarming the Janjaweed militias. Khartoum maintains they are outlaws and denies supporting them.

"One should ask who started military operations. We say rebels clearly started military operations," he said. "They forced the government to retaliate to defend itself."

World Daily News / Leftists reject Europe missile plan
September 15, 2007, 02:39:36 PM
Fri Sep 14, 7:49 PM ET

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Leaders of leftist parties in central Europe said Friday they oppose plans by Washington to build parts of its missile defense system in the region.

"We are concerned by the decision to deploy the system," said a statement signed by the heads of the Social Democratic or other left-leaning parties in the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. "We do not want any new missiles in Europe."

The U.S. made a formal request in January to place a radar base southwest of Prague. It would be linked with 10 interceptor missiles that would be based in neighboring Poland. The two former Soviet satellite states are now members of NATO.

Both the Czech and Polish governments are amenable to hosting the missile-shield bases. But a majority of the public in both countries rejects the idea, polls show.

Russia also opposes the plan, calling it a threat close to its borders. The United States has argued the system is meant to counter missile threats from Iran.

World Daily News / Syria on nuclear watch list
September 15, 2007, 02:38:31 PM
By NICOLE WINFIELD, Associated Press Writer
Fri Sep 14, 8:42 PM ET

ROME - A senior U.S. nuclear official said Friday that North Koreans were in Syria and that Damascus may have had contacts with "secret suppliers" to obtain nuclear equipment.

Andrew Semmel, acting deputy assistant secretary of state for nuclear nonproliferation policy, did not identify the suppliers, but said North Koreans were in the country and that he could not exclude that the network run by the disgraced Pakistan nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan may have been involved.

He said it was not known if the contacts had produced any results. "Whether anything transpired remains to be seen," he said.

Syria has never commented publicly on its nuclear program. It has a small research nuclear reactor, as do several other countries in the region, including Egypt. While Israel and the U.S. have expressed concerns in the past, Damascus has not been known to make a serious push to develop a nuclear energy or weapons program.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack declined to comment on Semmel's remarks but noted that the United States had long-standing concerns about North Korea and nuclear proliferation.

"We've also expressed, over time, our concerns about North Korea's activities in terms of dealing with A.Q. Khan and others around the globe," he told reporters.

McCormack said he was not aware of any countries making inquires to the United States about the link between North Korea and Syria.

Proliferation experts have said that Syria's weak economy would make it hard-pressed to afford nuclear technology, and that Damascus â€" which is believed to have some chemical weapons stocks â€" may have taken the position that it does not also need nuclear weapons.

Semmel was responding to questions about an Israeli airstrike in northern Syria last week. Neither side has explained what exactly happened, but a U.S. government official confirmed that Israeli warplanes were targeting weapons from Iran and destined for Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

The Washington Post reported Thursday that Israel had gathered satellite imagery showing possible North Korean cooperation with Syria on a nuclear facility.

North Korea, which has a long-standing alliance with Syria, condemned the Israeli air incursion. Israeli experts say North Korea and Iran both have been major suppliers of Syria's missile stock.

Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal told the Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat on Thursday that the accusations of North Korean nuclear help were a "new American spin to cover up" for Israel.

Semmel, who is in Italy for a meeting Saturday on the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, said Syria was certainly on the U.S. "watch list."

"There are indicators that they do have something going on there," he said. "We do know that there are a number of foreign technicians that have been in Syria. We do know that there may have been contact between Syria and some secret suppliers for nuclear equipment. Whether anything transpired remains to be seen."

"So good foreign policy, good national security policy, would suggest that we pay very close attention to that," he said. "We're watching very closely. Obviously, the Israelis were watching very closely."

Asked if the suppliers could have been North Koreans, he said: "There are North Korean people there. There's no question about that. Just as there are a lot of North Koreans in Iraq and Iran."

Asked if the so-called Khan network, which supplied nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea, could have been involved, he said he "wouldn't exclude" it.

Inspiration & Hope / Modern Miracle
September 15, 2007, 07:27:09 AM
BBC Reports:

Modern miracles

For many, miracles are distant legends. Others believe they are real events in the here and now. Here radio and TV presenter Roger Bolton recounts his sceptic's attempt to reconcile the two.
I don't think I believe in them, except of course when anyone I love is seriously ill or in danger, in which case I certainly pray for a miracle.

I was brought up in the evangelical protestant Christian tradition which disapproves of the prominence given to the Virgin Mary, dismisses any talk of her appearing to Bernadette in Lourdes, and positively revolts at the suggestion that the sick should go there to be cured.

But when I went to that little town in the French Pyrenees, armed with my scepticism, I was strangely impressed.

BBC NEWS: AUDIO

Listen to Radio 2's Modern Miracles
For a start, few physical miracles are accepted by the Roman Catholic Church as having occurred there - only 67 in the almost 150 years since Bernadette had her visions - and the church has a very rigorous screening process in place to evaluate the thousands of claims that are put forward.

The Church is more concerned with what might be called miracles of the soul, and there is no doubt that for many the pilgrimage to Lourdes is a life-changing experience.

LOURDES

Christianity's most visited place of pilgrimage after Rome
It's the focal point of pilgrimage 6m believers make each year
Many believe that there, miracles happen and that the sick can become well
In 1858, Bernadette said she saw Virgin Mary 18 times
I went there in the off-season, so was spared the mass crowds and perhaps the mass hysteria. What I found was love, compassion and concern.

The Bernadette "snow shakers" could be bought along with other religious tat, but the shops were well away from the true heart of Lourdes.

I have no doubt that many of the sick who go there are uplifted, given the ability to live with their illness and feel part of a community that transcends place, race or time.

Is that a miracle ? Whatever it's called, it is something wonderful.

Health and Food / How often do you trim your nails?
September 15, 2007, 01:01:00 AM
An ingrown toenail is a common condition in which the corner or side of one of your toenails grows into the soft flesh of your toe. The result is pain, redness, swelling and, sometimes, an infection. The condition usually affects your big toe.

Often, you can take care of ingrown toenails on your own. If the pain is severe or spreading, however, your doctor can take steps to relieve your discomfort and help you avoid complications.

If you have diabetes or another condition that causes poor circulation to your feet, you're at greater risk of complications from an ingrown toenail.

Signs and symptoms

Signs and symptoms of an ingrown toenail include:

Pain and tenderness in your toe along one or both sides of the nail
Redness around your toenail
Swelling of your toe around the nail
Infection of the tissue around your toenail

Causes

Ingrown toenails result when the nail grows into the flesh of your toe, often the big toe. Common causes include:

Wearing shoes that crowd your toenails
Cutting your toenails too short or not straight across
Injury to your toenail
Unusually curved toenails
Thickening of your toenails

Risk factors

Anyone can develop an ingrown toenail. But you may be more prone to ingrown toenails if you have toenails that curve down.

Ingrown toenails are also more common in older adults, because nails tend to thicken with age. This thickening or change to the curvature of your nails can cause ingrown toenails.

When to seek medical advice

If you experience severe discomfort in your toe or pus or redness that seems to be spreading, see your doctor. If you have diabetes or any circulation impairment to your lower extremities, seek the advice of a foot doctor (podiatrist) on how to properly care for ingrown toenails. Also seek prompt treatment for any foot sore or infection.

Complications

Left untreated or undetected, an ingrown toenail can infect the underlying bone and lead to a serious bone infection.

Complications can be especially severe if you have diabetes because the circulation and nerve supply to your feet can be impaired. Therefore, any relatively minor injury to your foot â€" cut, scrape, corn, callus or ingrown toenail â€" can lead to a more serious complication. In rare cases, an ingrown toenail can result in a difficult-to-heal open sore (foot ulcer), which could eventually require surgery. Foot ulcers left untreated may become infected and eventually even gangrenous. Sometimes amputation is the only treatment option.

Treatment

If home remedies don't help, your doctor can treat an ingrown toenail by trimming or removing the ingrown portion of your nail to help relieve pain. Before this procedure, your doctor numbs your toe by injecting it with an anesthetic. After the procedure, you may need to rest your foot and soak it in warm water. Your doctor may also recommend using topical or oral antibiotics, especially if the toe is infected or at risk of becoming infected.

For a recurrent ingrown toenail, your primary doctor or foot doctor may suggest removing a portion of your toenail along with the underlying tissue (nail bed) to prevent that part of your nail from growing back. This procedure can be done with a chemical, a laser, or other methods.

Prevention

To help prevent an ingrown toenail:

Trim your toenails straight across. Don't curve your nails to match the shape of the front of your toe. If you have your toenails done at a nail salon, be sure to tell your pedicurist to trim your nails straight across. If you have circulation problems in your feet from disorders such as diabetes or peripheral vascular disease, see a podiatrist regularly to have your nails professionally trimmed.
Keep toenails at a moderate length. Trim toenails so that they're even with the tips of your toes. If you trim your toenails too short, the pressure from your shoes on your toes' tissue may direct your nails to grow into the tissue.
Wear shoes that fit properly. Shoes that place excessive pressure on your toes or pinch your toes may cause your nails to grow into surrounding tissue. If you have nerve impairment to your feet, you may not be able to sense if your shoes fit too tightly. Take care to buy and wear properly fitted shoes, preferably from a shoe store specializing in fitting shoes for people with foot problems.
Wear protective footwear. If your work puts you at risk of injuring your toes, buy footwear such as steel-toed shoes, which protect your toes.

Self-care

You can treat most ingrown toenails at home. Here's how:

Soak your feet. Do this for 15 to 20 minutes twice a day, using warm salt water (1 teaspoon of table salt per pint of water) or warm, soapy water. Soaking reduces swelling and relieves tenderness.
Give your nail some help. Put fresh bits of cotton under the ingrown edge after each soaking. This will help the nail eventually grow above the skin edge.
Use a topical antibiotic. Apply an antibiotic ointment and bandage the tender area.
Choose sensible footwear. Consider wearing open-toed shoes or sandals until your toe feels better.
Take pain relievers. If there's severe pain, take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) to relieve the pain until you can make an appointment with a podiatrist or dermatologist.
Check your feet. If you have diabetes, check your feet daily for signs of ingrown toenails or other foot problems.

tinood diay na makaayo ni sila?  ang among insurance kay dili man mobayad ana nila kay dili kuno na sila considered na medical doctor.

Dinhi sa united states, there are three kinds of medical physicians who are recognized by health insurance as true medical practitioners with the power to write out and give medical prescriptions:

1. Doctor of Allopathic Medicine (M.D)
2. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O)
3. Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M)

++++

The difference between the three medical fields is that the M.D physician is a contemporary physician that relies in traditional medical dogma, with great emphasis in the treatment of bodily ailments via the use of surgical treatments: invasive or non-invasive, as well as proper drug-assisted healing (prescription, radiology etc).

The D.O physician and his schooling is almost identical to that of the M.D physician, however the main difference is that the D.O is also trained to utilize osteopathic muscular manipulation, which is a semester based course to teach them the functions and modality of the different bones of the body. There is great emphasis in spinal manipulation, as with traditional medical dogma in this practice. The reason why there was a split between D.O and M.D is that D.Os believe that the body needs to be healed as a whole unit, and that drugs alone cannot be the only recourse to healing, but also mind and soul etc----this is a huge topic that has been widely debated by the medical community.

The DPM physician is a doctor of podiatry, and he is responsible for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of the foot, ankle and lower extremity (anything below the knee and hips). Treatment varies from nail removal, sulcus removal, bone reformation, amputation etc. He has the power within the law and power vested in him to provide care to patients with foot problems via the use of prescription drugs, surgical procedure or even manipulation.

+++++++++

Other health care providers that are outside this scope include: chiropractors, faith healers, naturapathic healers, herbal healers etc; and are not recognized by the health insurance community---as they do not have the power to provide and give medical prescription or perform surgery.

That is the difference, hope that helps.

hahahaha pariho sad na sa ang osteopathic manipulative care sa ang D.O physicians, 'te. Ilang theory ay every major internal versceri is attached to a specific interspinatous vein which runs horizontally across every major spinal bone ranging from cervical, thoracic and lumbar; and they believe and attest that the improper movement of a particular spinal bone will contort the interspinatous vein, which then leads to stress and prevents full passage of blood to the target visceri. Ilang view is that if they move the retorted spinal bone to its original position, maka help ease the pain.

Ang popular observation is when a osteopathic physician realigns the axis and atlas cervical spinal bones to proper position--which does medically ease the movement of the muscle above it, responsible for the head's movement from left to right, which is the sternocleidomastoid, sternohyoid, ornohyoid and the superior portion of the trapezius.

Naka observe baya ko ilang procedure....mo bilib jud ko nila. kai naa jud na ang truth---they are very osteomanipulative based.
