Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

â€" Ezekiel 18:23

God desires for all of his children to come back to Him. There may be debate about how this plays out, but the Scripture is clear about God’s heart. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. His love is greater than our wickedness, and His voice still calls to us to turn from our ways and live.

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
â€" Luke 10:36-37

We may not realize how odious the parable of the Good Samaritan was to listeners in Jesus day. Notice that when Jesus asks an expert in the law who was the good neighbor, he could not even say the word “Samaritan”. Samaritans were seen as an impure people, yet as the parable unfolded it was not the priest or the Levite who helped the fallen man, but a person that a Jew would not even talk to. This story not only exposed the prejudices of Jesus day; it also challenges us to look past our judgments of others and extend the same mercy that we have received in Christ.

For me, I admire, adore, and love my father's sentimentality! A man of very few words, but when he speaks, it can move mountains. His devotion to family, and sacrifices for us his children is undeniable!

If it be God's will, I would want to be as great a father as my dad.

Inspiration & Hope / Only God Is Great
June 16, 2013, 03:29:26 PM

Ascending the throne at the age four, Louis XIV rules as king of France for 72 years, the longest reign in modern European history. Consumed with hiw own power, he called himself the “Great Monarch” and declared, “I am the State!” But in 1715, King Louis XIV abdicated his throne to death.

His funeral was nothing short of spectacular. The great cathedral was packed with mourners paying final tribute to their king, who lay in a solid gold coffin. To dramatize the deceased ruler’s greatness, a solitary candle burned above his coffin. Thousands waited in hushed silence as they peered at the exquisite casket that held the mortal remains of their monarch.

At the appointed time the funeral service began, and Bishop Massillon, who presided over this official act of state, stood the address the mourners, including the assembled clergy of France. When the bishop rose, he did something that stunned the nation. Bending down from the pulpit, he snuffed out the lone candle representing Louis XIV’s greatness. The people gasped. Then in the darkness, came just four words from behind the open Bible:

“Only God is great!”

Subdue, by Your grace, my proneness to love created things too much. Give me a love of suffering for Your sake. make me forbearing and kind to others, that I may avoid quarrels and contentions. Oh glorious apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered thy beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused thee to be forgotten by many, but the Church honors and invokes thee universally as the patron of hopeless cases--of things despaired of. Pray for me who am so miserable; make use, I implore thee, of that particular privilege accorded thee of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (mention your request), and that I may bless God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise thee, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor thee as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to thee. Amen

I will endorse to you the intercessory prayer to St. Jude Thaddeus. He is powerful in his aid during time of trial and need. Ask special graces for your sister as she endures this battle with cancer. I pray to the sovereign Lord Jesus Christ that your sister will be blessed with graces, strength and perseverance as we wait for God's will for her in her life. May the Lord's will be glorified.

May St. Jude Thaddeus, St. Peregrine, and all the saints in Heaven pray for your sister so that she will be nourished spiritually and physically. May God's divine will be made manifest and may we Glorify Him...all our days until will glorify Him endlessly in Heaven.

Jesus, You suffered and died for us. You understand suffering. Teach me to understand my suffering as You do; to bear it in union with You; to offer it with You to atone for my sins and to bring your grace to souls in need. Calm my fears; increase my trust. May I gladly accept your holy will and become more like You in trial. If it be your will, restore me to health so that I may work for your honor and glory and the salvation of all. Amen
#5161
Dear Lord, by allowing me to experience this affliction, so that I may share in your suffering on the cross for sin, you take a sublime chance that I might either draw closer to you for comfort, or turn away from you in my misery. O my Savior, grant me that precious grace to offer up my pain, as you did in Your Passion, to atone for sin. Help me to imitate your patience and to turn my complaints into offerings for my sins or for those of others, as you see fit. In this time of distress and pain, I ask, I seek, and I knock, for the grace of endurance, perseverance, and above all, trustful submission to Your Divine will, for my good and your glory. Amen.
#5162
Gentle Jesus, who cured the sick and laid a healing hand upon the lame, the blind and the handicapped, look with compassion upon me in my suffering. If it is not your Will to cure me, then give me strength to bear my burden and offer it up to You. You suffered so much for me. Give me grace to offer my sufferings in union with Your own, in reparation for my sins and those of others, for the needs of this troubled world, and for the release of the souls in purgatory. Mary, compassionate Mother, pray for your weary child. Health of the Sick, Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for me. Amen.

DEAR ISLES,

As a medical professional, I want you to know that there are indeed many options available for your sister either it be a surgical resection of the neoplastic tumors / mass through tumorectomy. Strategically speaking Isles, if it is possible, the tumor should be reduced in size through radiation chemotherapy. When the tumor as receded in size, it can be surgically removed.

I know that there is a fear of radiation chemotherapy because of the toxicities to the living tissues / fast growing tissues. However, one can minimize the major side effect of pancytopenia through the intake of erythropoetin and CSGF (colony stimulating growth factors), which increases marrow growth.

We have a trial drug that is known to be quite effective, Isles. The Trade name here is : TARCEVA, the drug name is Erlotinib. It is part of the kinase inhibitor family of anti-neoplatic drugs. Do ask your sister's Radiology Oncologist if she is a candidate for this drug.

In all things, my dear ISLES, Pray, and continue to pray. I will keep your sister in my prayers for a positive outcome.

Yours Sincerely,
Lorenzo

Each of this weekend's Mass verses deals with second chances.  From 1 Kings 17, Ezekiel brings new life to the widow's son through the power of God.  From Luke 7, Jesus brings a man back to life.  And in Galatians 1, St. Paul tells us of the second chance given to him by God.

St. Paul's story from Galatians is important for us to keep in mind in today's society.  He persecuted the Church ruthlessly.  His goal, in his own words, was to destroy it.  Despite his efforts, Christ gave him a second chance anyway.

This is why we need to pray for our persecutors today.  St. Paul was one of Christianity's greatest enemies, but then he became one of the most important figures the Church has ever known.  His words formed much of the New Testament, and the Bible would not look the same without his many letters.

We do not know what God's plan for someone may be.  He has the power to change the hardest of hearts.  Actually, I spent most of my life speaking against Catholics, but here I am now - doing everything I can to share the beauty of the Catholic Church.

The Church has no shortage of enemies in the modern world.  Many of our views are not exactly popular with mainstream society.  Some of those who disagree with the Church will actually try to persecute us, but we cannot fall into the trap of engaging them in battle.

Our response should be to pray for our persecutors.  Instead of arguing about our differences, we need to pray for their conversion.  We need to show them the path to Jesus Christ.  We can have a larger impact on the world by helping to convert souls, than we can fighting over our beliefs.

Modern society is actively challenging our Catholic morals and beliefs.  Instead of returning hate for hate, do we have the courage to pray for our persecutors?

Now I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin. For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it...

We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works.

-Hebrews 10:24

How can we inspire others, the entire world around us, to live a life centered on Christ?  How do we convince them to follow the same path we are on?  The answer is simple in theory but difficult in execution.

If we want to "rouse one another to love and good works" as the author of Hebrews suggests, then we need to show love and good works.  Our words, our actions, the essence of our being should constantly radiate love and good works on the people around us.

People will follow our example.  They will see the love that we show to others and the impact it has on our lives, and they will want to do the same.  In theory, anyway.

That is why our faith needs to be a 24-7 part of our lives.  People will see our love and good works, but they will also see our failings.  Often times, they will notice how much we fall short more than the positive impact of our lives in other areas.  We definitely live in a society that sees the glass as half empty.

Every moment of every day, we are given the chance to show others love and good works.  Inspire the world around you by showing the true impact of Christ on your life.  To help the world center itself on Christ, we need to center ourselves on Him first.

O my most loving Mother, Mary,
as your little child I give You my hand:
take it and guide me this whole day,
so that I may do the Holy Will of God in all things:
in fighting against the world,
the flesh, and the Devil,
in conquering by means of those graces
which Thou dost give to all who humbly seek them from Thee.

Hence, I resolve to avoid the occasions of sin,
mindful that Thou dost give grace not so
that I may be invincible when I would want,
nor that I might love the things of this world,
but so that as Your little child
I might love God above all things,
with a pure and humble heart,
knowing that without God and Your charitable intercession
I am good for nothing.

O my Mother,
I intend to gain all the indulgences which I can,
today and all days,
and I give them to Thee,
for the poor souls in Purgatory.
I ask Thee for all the graces necessary
for the eternal salvation of myself and of all sinners.
Forgive me for all my trespasses
and teach me to walk in the way of salvation.

Carry me to Heaven
and be with me all the days of my life.

Amen.

O my Mother Mary,
Mother of God,
turn not Thine eyes from me on account of my sins.
I desire to love Thee as a little child.
I am not worthy that Thou shouldst think of me.
How can I say that I love Thee
when my sinful life proves the contrary.
I weep but what do such tears as mine avail me.
Are they tears of penance?
Alas, how insignificant is my penance
compared with my sins!
O Mother, help me whose sins crucified Thy Son.

Amen.

Lord Jesus, You have said,
"Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart."
With confidence in Your loving heart
which offers rest to weary souls,
we come to You in this time of special need.
In Your unfailing love,
read the prayer that is written on our hearts,
and grant the grace that we ask of You,
in accordance with Your holy will.
In Your name we pray.
Amen.

Lord, there has been too much change in my life recently,
and I feel overwhelmed.
Because I try to be a responsible person,
I sometimes forget that it is unwise for me
to allow my sense of duty to override my common sense.

Lord, help me to allow myself more time to rest,
relax, and pray.
Guide me toward something spiritual to read every day
and a quiet time afterwards
to reflect on what I have read
and how it pertains to my life.
I truly want to simplify my life
and live more as Christ did.
Help me remember that there is no loss
or problem that I must face alone.
You are always near,
with Your love and compassion to comfort me.

Amen.

Friends,

Let us be mindful of loss of relationships. Despite the pain, let us remember the Love of God, which supersedes any wordly love. Let us entrust our dependence on Him, the Lord Jesus Christ, who loved us to endure the Passion for our sins.

Lord have mercy on us and be compassionate to us. Amen.

O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.

Remember that in God’s eyes, not one of us is useless. He doesn’t want to lose one sheep in His flock, not one! The one we call the devil, Lucifer, or Satan, however, would like nothing better than to see our destruction.

For most of us, the devil doesn’t turn us into Linda Blair types in need of an Exorcist (as in the movie of that title). His approach is more subtle but it can be deadly nonetheless.

Satan, the father of lies as our Lord referred to him once (John 8:44), tries to play on our weaknesses, our doubts and fears, even in good times, much less in the bad! Don’t let him get you down!

Do you feel like a failure? Frustrated beyond belief? At your wit’s end? Offer all that baggage up to our Lord. Give Him your frustrations and failures. Don't give them to the devil and his forces of darkness.

Do you feel lost? Think of people you look up to, or who inspire you. You think they’ve all had it easy? Look at Jesus. He was born in a cave to die on a cross between two thieves. He was abandoned as a common criminal by his disciples! He must have been a total failure, right? Not at all!

Our Lord came down on earth to share in our sufferings and to give His life not just for our Eternal Life but also so that we may see just how much He loves each of us. This love can strengthen us in our struggles and also help us to share our sufferings with His on Calvary. We can also get His grace, guidance and help through the Eucharist in Holy Communion and in Confession as well!

So, remember, as Blessed Robert Southwell, a 16th Century martyr for Christ once said "God gave Himself to Thee; give Thyself to God."

Dear Lord, during this trial,
I offer up to you my confusion
Give me clarity
I offer up to you my despair
Give me hope
I offer up to you my weakness
Give me strength
I offer up to you my pettiness
Give me generosity of spirit.
I offer up to you all my
Negative thoughts from Satan
So that when he asks ‘Where is Your God now?”
I may respond “Right here with me, giving me His grace
As a Heavenly beam of light penetrating your darkness!"

Dear Lord,
Help me to remember in these troubled times
The cross you carried for my sake,
So that I may better carry mine
And to help others do the same,
As I offer up (whatever your concern or problem here) to you
For the conversion of sinners
For the forgiveness of sins
In reparation for sins
And for the salvation of souls. Amen
