USA and Canada / Re: Imam charged with sexual assault

Sex crimes case against imam widens
By Chris Doucette ,Toronto Sun

TORONTO - New information has come to light in the investigation about a religious leader from a Scarborough mosque already accused of sexually related offences involving five kids.

But Toronto Police won’t say if that means more alleged victims have come forward since they went public this week with their charges against the 48-year-old man, who has lived around the globe.

“The ongoing investigation is progressing, however, no new charges have been laid,” Const. Wendy Drummond said Thursday, unable to elaborate.

In an effort to protect the victims involved, police have been tight-lipped about the case since announcing Wednesday that Mohammad Masroor was arrested on Aug. 10.

Investigators won’t even reveal exactly what charges have been laid against the Toronto man, nor would they reveal the ages of the victims, except to say they’re both male and female.

Police have only said Masroor faces 13 charges and the allegations involve “sexual related offences and threatening death.”

Masroor is an imam at the Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society on Danforth Ave., just west of Danforth Rd.

Members of the mosque, who were shaken by the news, have said he teaches the Qur'an to young girls and boys at the mosque and in their homes.

Police have confirmed the five alleged victims who have so far come forward were students of the accused.

Investigators claim Masroor used his position of authority to commit the offences and they fear there are more victims.

“We believe there are other victims, but we have no idea where,” Drummond said.

Masroor came to Canada in 2008, but he has lived in Asia, Europe, Florida and Michigan.

It’s hoped any other victims will learn of the charges through social media and contact their local police, Drummond said, adding investigators in Toronto will work with officers from other forces when and if the need arises.

She said officers are aware of cultural differences are assisting with the investigation in an effort to ensure any potential victims or witnesses feel comfortable about coming forward.

The fact the accused is someone who is “held in high esteem,” and that charges include threatening death, only add to the sensitive nature of the case, Drummond said.

Masroor remains in custody pending a court appearance Monday. http://www.torontosun.com/2011/08/18/sex-crimes-case-against-imam-widens

Wild brawl ends Georgetown’s exhibition game in China early
By Jeff Eisenberg
Thu Aug 18 11:21am EDT

At the same time as Vice President Joe Biden is visiting Beijing in hopes of improving relations between the U.S. and China, another group on a goodwill trip from Washington encountered an unexpected diplomatic hiccup.

Georgetown had to leave the court during the fourth quarter of its exhibition game against the Baiyi Rockets on Thursday night in Beijing after both benches emptied and a wild brawl erupted between the two teams. None of the Hoyas were seriously injured despite trading punches with the opposing players and having to dodge chairs thrown onto the court and water bottles hurled from the stands.

The best account of what led to the melee comes from the Washington Post's Gene Wang, apparently the lone U.S. reporter in attendance.

Wang wrote that the game was tense from the outset and had to be stopped earlier after two players exchanged words. At one point, a Rockets player even berated John Thompson III as the Georgetown coach yelled instructions to his players.

The hard fouls and constant bickering eventually devolved into bedlam when Bayi big man Hu Ke was called for a foul against Georgetown guard Jason Clark. The senior made it clear he did not appreciate the hard foul, sparking the initial exchange of shoves that led players from both benches to run onto the court in defense of their teammates. -- http://rivals.yahoo.com/

USA and Canada / Imam charged with sexual assault
August 19, 2011, 09:46:50 AM
AP â€" Wed, Aug 17, 2011

TORONTO (AP) â€" Police have charged an imam at a Toronto mosque with 13 counts of sexual assault and say there may be more victims in other countries.

Det. Karen Armstrong said Wednesday Mohammad Masroor, 48, abused his position of authority when he taught the Koran to students at the Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society and in private homes in Toronto since arriving in Canada in 2008.

Armstrong says Masroor also worked and lived in France, Germany, Bangladesh, Hungary, Singapore, Sri Lanka and most recently in Florida and Michigan in the United States. Armstrong says they are appealing to the public to assist in finding other victims.

She says the charges involve five victims both male and female and that the investigation is ongoing. -- http://news.yahoo.com/

#50732
AFP â€" Mon, Aug 15, 2011

Scientists in Canada said Monday that they plan to study whether eating dark chocolate not only satisfies sweet tooth cravings, but protects against sunburn as well.

The study by researchers at Laval University in Quebec will monitor the effects of chocolate consumption on fair-skinned volunteers between the ages of 25 and 65, each of whom will be prevailed upon to eat three squares of chocolate per day for 12 weeks.

Earlier research in Germany and Britain has found that chemicals in chocolate called polyphenals increase blood flow close to the skin, which helps protect against ultraviolet rays, but those studies were too small in scale to be conclusive.

The scientists at Laval University's Institute of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods hope to confirm the link in a study of 60 people, about half of whom already have been recruited, they said.

Test subjects who have been fed chocolate are to be exposed to ultraviolet rays in a laboratory and their skin then checked for sun damage. A control group will be given a placebo.

Scientists said the study will only include female participants so that researchers can control for the variability between the body's natural hormones in men and women. -- http://news.yahoo.com/

On the other hand, tambucho-killing is a very cruel way of killing dogs.  It consists of putting the condemned dogs in a small airtight metal box and inserting the tailpipe of a vehicle through a small hole.  The vehicle is then started and the exhaust fumes fill up the box.

What happens next is pure horror out of hell.  The dogs begin to suffocate from the smoke and fumes; they panic, they retch and vomit, they howl and bark, they frantically scratch at the sides of the metal box.  They twist and suffer spasms.  This extreme torture lasts for at least 10 minutes.

True, we know and like ourselves more than anyone else, so talking about ourselves comes easily and is pleasurable. But to do so excessively is to ignore others. And when we do so, we deny ourselves of the opportunity to foster powerful friendships and learn from them. For our own good, we need to drop any remnants of egotism.

Egotists believe that if they hadn't been born, people would have been wondering why. Yet, if we could only see how small a spot our death will leave, we would be able to give up our illusions of greatness. For as Charles Simmons (1798 ~ 1856) wrote, "When a person feels disposed to overestimate his own importance, let him remember that mankind got along very well before his birth, and that in all probability they will get along very well after his death."

We must take care not to become trapped in the imaginary world of superiority and inferiority. There is much more than peace of mind at stake. Much of the harm that is done in the world is done by people who want to feel superior. Why can't the Jews and Palestinians get along? Why do the Sunni and Shiite factions quarrel? Why do Hindus and Muslims fight? It is hardly surprising that Thomas Carlyle (1795 ~ 1881) wrote, "Egotism is the source and summary of all faults and miseries."

But it is not only what takes place in distant lands that we need to be concerned about. We also need to be aware of the happenings in our community, workplace, and family. Those who fall prey to egotism are quick to take offense and resort to violence. Road rage shootings are an extreme example of the possible harmful effects of unbridled egotism.

Have you ever been insulted? If so, how did you feel? Did you get angry? If you did, why? Isn't it because of pride? Isn't it because you're conceited? You see, there are only two kinds of egotists - those who admit it and the rest of us. Yes, we are all egotistical to a degree. That's just another way of saying we are all INSECURE to a degree. Why else would we get upset? If I were to call a 270 lb professional wrestler a 'skinny weakling,' do you think he would feel hurt? Of course not! He realizes that my words do not change his size and strength, so he would probably just smile at my ridiculous statement.

Egotism, then, is a mask we wear to hide the faults or weaknesses we believe we have. The foundation of egotism is the delusion that we're different, the delusion that some of us are better than others. But our mask will fall aside of its own accord once we realize that we are all the same. We share the same fears, hopes, and dreams. Once we understand that, there is nothing to fear, nothing to get upset about.

Egotism is the glue with which people get stuck on themselves
by Chuck Gallozzi

Have you ever met people who could only be described as self-centered, boastful, conceited, or vain? What makes them so egotistical? And what is egotism anyway? That's what a Prime Minister of the Tang Dynasty (618 ~ 907AD) wanted to know, so he asked an acclaimed Zen master, "What is egotism?"

The famous monk slowly turned his head to face his questioner, and while sneering said, "Only the greatest of fools can ask such a stupid question!" The Prime Minister grew red and trembled in anger. At that point, the monk revealed a peaceful smile and gently said, "THAT, Mr. Prime Minister, is egotism!"

FRENCH ACTOR Gerard Depardieu took a one-hour flight from Paris to Dublin Tuesday night and turned it into a three-hour flight because he needed to go to the bathroom.

At his seat.

Fliers know a plane can't take off if there's a leak in the cabin.

France's Europe-1 radio aired an interview with a passenger identified only as Daniele, who said that Depardieu appeared drunk and announced in French, "I need to piss, I need to piss."

Daniele said that when the cabin crew told him to remain seated during takeoff, "he stood up and did it [urinated] on the ground." -- http://www.philly.com/

Amoeba Parasite Causes Second Death in US
By IB Times Staff Reporter | August 17, 2011 8:50 AM EDT

Amoeba Parasite has caused second death in a month's time.

The victim is a nine-year-old boy from Virginia, who got infected with a dangerous freshwater amoeba, a Richmond Times-Dispatch report said.

The boy, Christian Strickland, died on Aug. 5 and the autopsy confirmed the death to have been a consequence of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis entering the brain.

Strickland died hardly a week after Courtney Nash, 16, from Florida succumbed to the same parasite caused infection. It is the first death in Virginia from amoeba parasite since 1969.

The parasite is commonly found in lakes and rivers.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the disease is not communicable and spreads rapidly, resulting on death within days. Health officials say, that though the disease is not very common, it does increase during summer.

Amber Strickland, Christian's mother said that he might have been infected when he dunked in an unidentified water body during a fishing camp he attended a week before he died, reported Foxnews.

"He went from playing video games to being brain dead," she said.

The symptoms of the infection could be a change in the sense of smell or taste, fever, sudden headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion and loss of balance.

Progression of the symptoms is rapid and could cause death in three to seven days, a Mayo Clinic Web site stated.-- http://www.ibtimes.com/

Try to go back one step sa pagsugod nimo anang relasyuna. What if minyo siya didto maong di siya pahigot diri or maybe dili gyud ka love niya.

Sad to say but sometimes sayaw nalang ta sa tukar sa kinabuhi. Ang mas maayo, Day, mao ang pagpangita na lang og work. Lower your standards para makasya nimo. Lastly you pray to God. Salamat.

DEAR Papa Joe,

Kimmy from Argao. Ang ako problema is all about my son´s situation and his father. It was almost 4 years ago, nabuntis ko sa akong uyab from UK.

Within those years okay kaayo ang dagan sa among relasyon ug nag-support sad siya sa akong baby. Pero ang problema kay dili man siya gusto mahikot, it means okay ra niya naa miy anakâ€" my life was stuck up within those years, nagpinaabot for nothing.

So I decided to break up with him. Full time mom ko, walay income. So it means at the moment nagdepende sa support sa akong anak which is not enough gani sa needs sa bata.

Unsaon mani nako nga pwerte gani gamaya, iyang pa minusan?

My second option is to change the family name sa ako anak nga aron kalimtan nalang namo siya. Sakto ba akong buhaton?

The Flower of Life was known around in ancient times, occurring in Temple of Osiris, Romania, Israel, China and many more places. Everything in the universe is Geometric, whether its people, trees, animals, planets, solar systems, stars, you name it. Everything in the universe comes out of this single pattern. The Metatrons cube forms from the Flower of life which forms the five platonic solids (Tetrahedron, Hexahedron, Octahedron, Dodecahedron, Icosahedron) which makes up the whole universe. Every element in the periodic table of elements has a geometric relation to one of the five platonic solids. So everything that modern science knows about elements and reality are tied together to the platonic solids, which comes from the Metatrons cube, which is formed from the fruit of life, which comes from the flower of life. -- http://listverse.com/

The Flower of Life is the modern name given to a geometrical figure composed of multiple evenly-spaced, overlapping circles. They are arranged to form a flower-like pattern with a sixfold symmetry, similar to a hexagon. The center of each circle is on the circumference of six surrounding circles of the same diameter.

It is considered by some to be a symbol of sacred geometry, said to contain ancient, religious value depicting the fundamental forms of space and time. In this sense, it is a visual expression of the connections life weaves through all sentient beings, and it is believed to contain a type of Akashic Record of basic information of all living things.

There are many spiritual beliefs associated with the Flower of Life; for example, depictions of the five Platonic Solids are found within the symbol of Metatron's Cube, which may be derived from the Flower of Life pattern. These platonic solids are geometrical forms which are said to act as a template from which all life springs.

According to Drunvalo Melchizedek, in the Judeo-Christian tradition, the stages which construct the Seed of Life are said to represent the six days of Creation, in which Elohim created life; Genesis 2:2-3, Exodus 23:12, 31:16-17, Isaiah 56:6-8. Within these stages, among other things, are the symbols of the Vesica Piscis, an ancient religious symbol, and Borromean rings, which represents the Holy Trinity. --Wiki
