I tried as much as possible to speak in light Castillian, where they speak with a lisp, but my heavy bisayan accent overbears it, haha. Mike, I am unworthy, im only a mere student. The praise goes to Dr. Rizal.

Bohol Directory / Reading of 'Mi Ultimo Adios'
December 02, 2007, 02:37:30 AM
The following is a recording and reading of the original Mi Ultimo Adios, written by Dr. Jose P. Rizal. This is in the original Spanish vernacular, as it was meant to have been heard and read. For those who do not understand Spanish, I will provide the written English translation of the intended meaning in the Spanish written poem.

I tried as much as possible to instill proper Castillian-style Spanish dictum as Dr. Jose P. Rizal spoke the Castillian version of Spanish, which is the lingual form spoken in the central heartland of Madrid, Leon, Castille and Borgos.

(I speak Spanish rather slowly--as I am not a native speaker, however the Great Dr. Jose P. Rizal would have read this in resilient speed--the way Spanish was meant to have been read. )

My Last Farewell

Farewell, my adored Land, region of the sun caressed,
Pearl of the Orient Sea, our Eden lost,
With gladness I give you my Life, sad and repressed;
And were it more brilliant, more fresh and at its best,
I would still give it to you for your welfare at most.

On the fields of battle, in the fury of fight,
Others give you their lives without pain or hesitancy,
The place does not matter: cypress laurel, lily white,
Scaffold, open field, conflict or martyrdom's site,
It is the same if asked by home and Country.

I die as I see tints on the sky b'gin to show
And at last announce the day, after a gloomy night;
If you need a hue to dye your matutinal glow,
Pour my blood and at the right moment spread it so,
And gild it with a reflection of your nascent light!

My dreams, when scarcely a lad adolescent,
My dreams when already a youth, full of vigor to attain,
Were to see you, gem of the sea of the Orient,
Your dark eyes dry, smooth brow held to a high plane
Without frown, without wrinkles and of shame without stain.

My life's fancy, my ardent, passionate desire,
Hail! Cries out the soul to you, that will soon part from thee;
Hail! How sweet 'tis to fall that fullness you may acquire;
To die to give you life, 'neath your skies to expire,
And in your mystic land to sleep through eternity !

If over my tomb some day, you would see blow,
A simple humble flow'r amidst thick grasses,
Bring it up to your lips and kiss my soul so,
And under the cold tomb, I may feel on my brow,
Warmth of your breath, a whiff of your tenderness.

Let the moon with soft, gentle light me descry,
Let the dawn send forth its fleeting, brilliant light,
In murmurs grave allow the wind to sigh,
And should a bird descend on my cross and alight,
Let the bird intone a song of peace o'er my site.

Let the burning sun the raindrops vaporize
And with my clamor behind return pure to the sky;
Let a friend shed tears over my early demise;
And on quiet afternoons when one prays for me on high,
Pray too, oh, my Motherland, that in God may rest I.

Pray thee for all the hapless who have died,
For all those who unequalled torments have undergone;
For our poor mothers who in bitterness have cried;
For orphans, widows and captives to tortures were shied,
And pray too that you may see you own redemption.

And when the dark night wraps the cemet'ry
And only the dead to vigil there are left alone,
Don't disturb their repose, don't disturb the mystery:
If you hear the sounds of cithern or psaltery,
It is I, dear Country, who, a song t'you intone.

And when my grave by all is no more remembered,
With neither cross nor stone to mark its place,
Let it be plowed by man, with spade let it be scattered
And my ashes ere to nothingness are restored,
Let them turn to dust to cover your earthly space.

Then it doesn't matter that you should forget me:
Your atmosphere, your skies, your vales I'll sweep;
Vibrant and clear note to your ears I shall be:
Aroma, light, hues, murmur, song, moanings deep,
Constantly repeating the essence of the faith I keep.

My idolized Country, for whom I most gravely pine,
Dear Philippines, to my last goodbye, oh, harken
There I leave all: my parents, loves of mine,
I'll go where there are no slaves, tyrants or hangmen
Where faith does not kill and where God alone does reign.

Farewell, parents, brothers, beloved by me,
Friends of my childhood, in the home distressed;
Give thanks that now I rest from the wearisome day;
Farewell, sweet stranger, my friend, who brightened my way;
Farewell, to all I love. To die is to rest.

SYDNEY, Australia - Australia's new leader said Friday that he would pull his country's combat troops out of Iraq by mid-2008 â€" making good on an election promise that is likely to disappoint the U.S. government.

Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd swept to power at elections last Saturday that ended more than 11 years of conservative rule under John Howard, who had strong personal ties with President Bush and was one of America's few staunch allies in Iraq.

"The combat force in Iraq we would have home by around about the middle of next year," Prime Minister-elect Rudd told a radio station in the southern city of Melbourne.

Rudd went to the polls with a policy of withdrawing Australia's 550 combat forces in Iraq, while leaving several hundred other troops there in supporting roles such as guarding diplomats. Australia also has about 1,000 troops in Afghanistan, a deployment Rudd supports and has no plans to reduce.

Bush was the first foreign leader to phone Rudd to congratulate him on his election victory, and the Australian leader said he would visit Washington early next year, with Iraq certain to be at the top of the agenda.

Rudd said Friday that his government had not begun discussions with U.S. officials about the withdrawal plan, and that a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Robert McCallum would be arranged soon.

Earlier this week, McCallum said U.S. officials looked forward to talking the plan over, and noted that it did not mean all Australian troops would be leaving Iraq.

"It's a situation ... where Australia is determining how it's going to reposition its forces, how it's going to deploy its resources in a new and different way, and we are looking forward to working with Mr. Rudd in achieving it," McCallum told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio.

As Prime Minister, Howard sent 2,000 troops to support the U.S. and British forces that invaded Iraq in 2003, and about 1,600 remain in and around the country. He had refused to set any timetable for pulling out the troops, saying that terrorists worldwide would be emboldened if they left or if the U.S.-led forces are defeated.

Rudd says the Iraq deployment has made Australia more of a target for terrorism.

White House spokesman Alex Conant had no immediate comment on Rudd's Friday remarks, but referred an Associated Press reporter to comments this week by Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, President Bush's adviser on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At a press briefing Monday, Lute said he knows Australia and Poland, "two key and very strong allies," have announced decisions affecting their forces in Iraq. He noted that both countries "are already making sizable commitments" to the war effort in Afghanistan.

Earlier this week, Poland's new defense minister said the country would likely pull its troops out of Iraq as early as mid-2008.

BEIJING (AFP) - Japan wants to reach an accord with China over exploring lucrative gas fields in the East China Sea by the beginning of 2008, an official here said Saturday.

The Asian nations, two of the world's largest energy importers, are locked in a disagreement over the boundaries of their territorial waters. Eleven previous rounds of talks on the issue since 2004 have failed to reach a breakthrough.

China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his counterpart Masahiko Komura spent a good part of their talks Saturday discussing the "sensitive" subject, said Mitsuo Sakaba, a spokesman for Japan's foreign ministry.

"We shared the same view that this matter should be solved before the visit of the Japanese prime minister to China at the end of this year or early next year," he said.

"The two ministers touched upon various aspects of this issue but we could not reach so-called solution," he said.

Sakaba said resolving the dispute was not a prerequisite for organising Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's visit to China, seen as a further sign of warming relations between the two countries.

China began drilling in the gas-rich area in 2003, having rejected a maritime border that Japan takes as the starting point for discussions. Beijing says its economic zone stretches nearly as far east as Japan's Okinawa island chain.

Both sides have blamed each another for failing to reaching a deal.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, on a rare visit to Tokyo in April, called for the two countries to resolve the maritime row peacefully, although Beijing has stood by its territorial claims.

BRUSSELS (AFP) - The head of Belgium's Flemish Christian Democrats on Saturday abandoned efforts to form a coalition government, after more than five months of fruitless talks, plunging the country further into crisis.

Yves Leterme announced his decision to Belgian King Albert II after the two Dutch-speaking Flemish and two francophone parties involved in talks failed to bridge their differences over devolving more power to the regions.

His move, swiftly accepted by the king, deepens the political crisis in the country where some are even talking of a possible split between the richer Flemish majority to the north and the poorer French Wallonia region to the south.

"The last weeks and months I have done all I can to bring this task to a successful conclusion," Leterme said in the parliament building after throwing in the towel.

"Unfortunately that has not been possible. Our country needs a stable government and reforms that will permit it to tackle its problems head on, as well as improving the functioning of our institutions".

He added that he had been aware, when he had first accepted the task of forming a government "that I was taking a political as well as a personal risk".

He remained available to work towards a solution to the political impasse, he said.

The deadlocked coalition talks have meant Belgium has so far spent 174 days without a new national government.

The heart of the problem is that the Flemish majority wants more power for its own region, a move the Walloons fear would mean they lost out politically and financially.

Leterme, whose Flemish party came out on top in Belgium's general election on June 10, could not bring the parties together. So he decided to abandon his attempt to become prime minister at the head of a Christian democrat-liberal coalition.

In a short statement the royal palace announced that King Albert "had an audience in the early afternoon with Mr. Yves Leterme. Mr. Leterme asked to be discharged of his mission. The king has accepted his request."

The move came after Leterme issued an ultimatum to the four parties to agree to three key points by Saturday morning

When one of the francophone parties refused to endorse his proposals on state reform, that proved the last straw for Leterme.

"It's not just a government crisis, it's a national crisis affecting the states' structure, and who can say, its very existence, " one francophone MP said.

So far no credible alternative to Leterme has been identified to succeed current Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, whose administration continues to run the country despite losing the June election

Thus Leterme's departure would hurl the country will only stoke existing fears, and hopes in some quarters, that the country could eventually split in two.

A spokesman for the far-right Vlaams Belang party, which was not involved in the coalition talks, said Leterme's failure to form a government demonstrated that a federal administration was no longer possible.

"I think this has proven that you can't form a government that represents the interests of both the north and south of the country.

"You don't need to be a separatist to realise that," said party spokesman Yoris Vanhaudhem.

The nationalist party was calling for a government to be formed to deal with day-to-day running of the country "while talks take place about preparing to divide the country," he added.

KHARTOUM (AFP) - Two Muslim members of the House of Lords on a mercy mission to Sudan met with jailed British teacher Gillian Gibbons at a secret location in Khartoum on Saturday and said she was in good spirits.

Lord Ahmed and Baroness Warsi, from the upper house of parliament, arrived in Khartoum on Saturday and met with Gibbons who was jailed for 15 days on Thursday for allowing students to name a teddy bear Mohammed.

The meeting came the day after thousands demonstrated in Khartoum against what they said was a lenient sentence, with some calling for her death.

Gibbons was jailed and ordered to be expelled for allowing pupils in her class of seven- and eight-year-olds to give the bear the same name as the Muslim prophet, as part of a school project.

The prospect of the mother of two, who was arrested on November 25, facing a maximum sentence of 40 lashes, six months in jail and a fine, sparked outrage in Britain.

Warsi, a member of the Conservatives shadow cabinet, told Britain's Sky News television by telephone that "Gillian was surprisingly in good spirits ... She was actually in good humour. She was telling jokes."

She said Sudan's Islamist-led government "wants to resolve this matter ... Clearly they are under pressure from many quarters here in Sudan."

Foreign Secretary David Milliband again telephoned his counterpart, acting foreign minister Ahmed Karti, to express London's "deep concern."

He said Gibbons had been transferred to a "more comfortable and secure environment" where the peers met with her for an hour and a half.

Before meeting the teacher, the pair met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sumani al-Wassila and told him they were seeking amnesty for Gibbons, a source close to the government said.

Wassila said the peers were "also representing the Muslim community of Britain" where many of the faithful have been dismayed by the teacher's jailing and by Friday's angry demonstration.

A Sudanese government source said it was unlikely the two would meet President Omar al-Beshir on Saturday as he had previous engagements.

A British embassy spokesman told AFP the two were "on a private visit with the (Sudanese) government ... We welcome any efforts to help in the case, but we're not involved in their programme."

The visit by the Muslim peers -- more acceptable negotiating partners for Sudan's Islamist regime than the government of former colonial master Britain -- came as Gibbons' lawyer said she did not want to appeal Thursday's verdict.

The lawyer also voiced optimism that Gibbons might be freed by a presidential pardon.

"There is a probability she will be released before the end of her sentence," Kamel Jazuli told AFP. "The president has the right to do this for any prisoner and I don't exclude that he will do it."

"I did not appeal for practical reasons, because that's what my client wanted."

Miliband has called in the Sudanese ambassador to London twice for talks on the issue, underlining that Gibbons' actions were the result of an "innocent misunderstanding."

Sudanese and British authorities have declined to say where Gibbons is being held out of concern about a repetition of Friday's angry scenes when thousands of men marched through central Khartoum and some called for her execution.

The embassy official said Gibbons had spoken to her son on Friday and that "she was happy about that and she's still doing well."

The diplomatic crisis cames at a time when Khartoum was already at odds with the West over its actions in the war-torn region of Darfur.

The trial itself took place behind a significant police barrier to avoid demonstrations which, as with last year's publication of caricatures of Prophet Mohammed in Denmark, have previously led to violence.

The spokesman for the Sudanese embassy in London blamed the Khartoum demonstrations after Friday prayers on members of "hardline" mosques.

"There are many mosques and different groups congregating in different mosques... After prayer, people in particular mosques, not the mainstream, were the ones shouting the slogans to this effect," said Khalid al-Mubarak.

World Daily News / Spy chief warns of China web threat
December 02, 2007, 01:59:15 AM
LONDON (AFP) - The head of Britain's domestic security service has warned business leaders that China has been carrying out state-sponsored espionage against vital parts of the economy.

The director-general of MI5, Jonathan Evans, wrote to 300 chief executives and security heads at banks, accountancy and legal firms, warning them they were under attack from "Chinese state organisations" via the Internet, The Times said Saturday.

It is thought to be the first time London has directly accused Beijing of involvement in web-based espionage, the daily said.

Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown said last weekend he is due to visit China in January next year. The Times said Evans's warning, which it had seen, threatened to cast a diplomatic shadow over the trip.

In particular, Evans warns companies doing business in China to be on their guard against the Chinese Army, because they were using the Internet to steal sensitive commercial data.

The newspaper quoted a security expert as saying that among the techniques used by Chinese groups were "custom trojans" -- software that hacks into a firm's network and feeds back confidential information.

The MI5 letter, on which the Home Office (interior ministry) refused to comment, includes a list of so-called "signatures" that can be used to identify such trojans, plus Internet addresses used to launch them, it added.

ISPARTA, Turkey - Thousands of people flocked to mosques in Isparta on Saturday to pray for the victims of a deadly plane crash that killed all 57 people on board.

Investigators, meanwhile, searched for the cause of the crash, while one technician was reported to suggest pilot error could have played a role.

The Atlasjet MD-83 was flying from Istanbul to Isparta in Turkey's southwest early Friday morning when it crashed, killing 50 passengers and seven crew members.

The weather and the visibility were good, officials said, but the aircraft suddenly disappeared from the radar a few minutes before it was supposed to land.

Military helicopters with thermal cameras spotted the wreckage on a hill about 7 miles away from the airport. Bodies strapped to seats, clothes and pieces of scrap metal were strewn across a large area.

Many shopowners in downtown Isparta closed their stores to attend prayers. Musa Akbay, a civil servant, came to a mosque in the city center, holding his 7-year-old daughter's hand.

"None of the dead are people that I knew. But I came here to pray for them," Akbay said.

Many attended funerals of some of the victims in Isparta, which lies north of a high mountain range along Turkey's Mediterannean coast. The population of the province of the same name is less than half a million.

Vahit Tuglaci, who lost a cousin in the disaster, said he still could not believe what happened. "We waited with some hope but believed he was dead when we saw him," Tuglaci said. He said he saw his cousin in a morgue.

Canser Unveren, who lost a friend, heard of the crash shortly after it happened.

"As soon as we heard of the crash, we started praying for salvation. But it did not happen," Unveren said.

Sefa Inan, honorary chair of the Association of Plane Technicians, said evidence suggests the crash was due to pilot error, daily Aksam newspaper reported.

"Probably it was flying too low. I think the head pilot realized the hill was there at the very last moment," he was quoted as saying by Aksam.

Inan was not involved in the investigation but he said he spoke with technicians who were involved in the plane's routine checks. He said he was told the plane had no technical problems.

A group of physicists who were working on a national nuclear project were among the victims.

But there was no reason to believe that terrorism or sabotage was the cause, said Ali Ariduru, head of Turkey's civil aviation authority. The crash site is far from where separatist Kurdish rebels, mostly known for hit-and-run attacks targeting soldiers, operate.

Investigators found the flight data and cockpit voice recorders, the civil aviation authority said Friday afternoon. The Sabah newspaper said the recorders were sent to United States for study.

Dogan news agency released a transcript of the conversation between the Atlasjet pilot and the Isparta control tower, but the exchange did not indicate any problem.

Atlasjet, a private airline established in 2001, operates regular flights inside Turkey and chartered flights to Europe and other foreign destinations.

In Renton, Wash., Boeing spokesman Jim Proulx said the company would provide technical assistance to help investigate the crash if invited by the Turkish authorities.

He said the plane was delivered in 1994 by McDonnell Douglas before its merger with Boeing, and that the original customer was not Atlasjet.

PARIS - Leading international powers may soon have an agreement on a third United Nations resolution on sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, a French official said after high-level talks in Paris Saturday.

"We could have a resolution in the short term," the official said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks.

The talks came a day after the collapse of an 18-month European effort to persuade Iran to stop uranium enrichment.

When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all

I'm on your side

When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you

I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Lean On Me

by Bill Withers

http://youtube.com/watch?v=JR0NZqu6igg&feature=related

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you don't let show

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me

So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Lean on me...

Steal my heart and hold my tongue.
I feel my time, my time has come.
Let me in, unlock the door.
I've never felt this way before.

The wheels just keep on turning,
The drummer begins to drum,
I don't know which way I'm going,
I don't know which way I've come.

Hold my hand inside your hands,
I need someone who understands.
I need someone, someone who hears,
For you, I've waited all these years.

For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come.
Until my day, my day is done.
And say you'll come, and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

In your tears and in your blood,
In your fire and in your flood,
I hear you laugh, I heard you say,
"I wouldn't change a single thing."

The wheels just keep on turning,
The drummers begin to drum,
I don't know which way I'm going,
I don't know what I've become.

For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come,
Until my days, my days are done.
Say you'll come and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

Yea did you see the part where he takes the silicone implants from the anterior thoracic subcutaneous fat of the female patient? That was so awesome. Di pood ko gusto mo proceed ana uy--kai it almost seems like butchery pood na--for me that is. More power to M.Es and all the pathologists out there. It takes a lot of strength (moral and physical) to go into that kind of medical specialty. Pero it is very noble jud, 'te no?

We learn from each other, my dear Ate Belle. We have all touched each other spiritually and emotionally. That is the magic and miracle of this thing I call friendship.
I really liked your post, 'te. And hope that you guy are doing okay over there in Michigan. Keep warm pood ha? Na tugnaw na raba....

PS. I love you Ate Belle! Salamat kaayo for being my friend :).

For me, I really want a big family. I want at least 4 children. 3 boys and 1 girl, 2 boys or 2 girls, 1 boy or 3 girl. So long as I have one boy. LoL! I want to adopt a white baby, aside from having my own children. If my Lolo can have 7 children and my great great Lolo can have 15 children..then there is no reason why I can't have 4. hahaha!

I agree with Ms. Orchids. "The more, the merrier."

Ate, you know you are still very very young! Have you considered applying and going to med school now? I know that you're an intelligent pharmacist, and im sure the people and coworkers love you--you have good people-to-people skills. Dili pa man na too late for you, Ate. In fact, I have a friend who is a freshman in medical school (he attends St. Eustatius) who is 32 years old--and earned his MBA from Rutgers University--and for a while worked as a financial analyst for Prudential Life (the guy was enjoying a 6 figure salary before he applied for medical school). But it was his inner calling. And he's pursuing it.

Hahaha that is true!
God bless my Lolo Ciano. My Lolo hasn't changed at all, spiritually and emotionally. He still jokes around and has his 'Valenciano' style of personality. So humble, so loving, so caring, and always has his fatherly voice when talking to my mom and to me and all my siblings. Though is body is no longer strong, his spirit is so vibrant! The Lord has given him long life and strong intuitions. hahaha..i remember him telling me how his father and mother used to still call him "Ondoy Ciano" or 'Dong siano siano" when he was my age--as he worked in the farm--and fished. He hasn't change at all.

The same son, brother, father, grandfather and Friend. And God Bless him for that!

Hahaha now i just remember one other moment. God, i cant believe this happened, sa freshman year nako, ning adto mi sa Walmart. But thing is that in freshman year i didnt bring my suv with me so we decided to walk to Walmart (15 mile distance)---sa november man to. So Rob and I decided to walk there--hahaha--and on the 2nd or 3rd mile--it poured on us--rained like crazy. So we we tried to hitch hike hahahaha! No one picked us up cuz they probably thought were were maniacs or something (may i remind you that the area where we were walking on edge of a major highway...LOL!!
We arrived in Walmart about 2 hours or so but completely drenched! And I mean 'drenched'. We originally went there to get something to snack on--but instead we went to the men's section to buy socks, underwear, new pants, shirt and a towel..hahahaha! It was hilarious, we bought our stuff and went straight to the bathroom to get dressed..came out and the cashier was like, "So. Hows the fit?" Rob and I died laughing at that. LOL.

Luckily for us tho--there was a shuttle bus that took customers from Walmart back to Meadville (the town where our college campus is located). It became our 'inside joke' whenever we would go to the mall or something. He'd just make that typical face of his and say "Walmart, Al. Walmart" and we'd both crack up laughing. Our friends would wonder what we were talking about. Good times. Good times.

You are very kind and generous to do that, Pare! Bless your kind heart! But yes I am considering adopting a child in the future as well as having my own children because there are so many children out there who are in need of health care, education, and emotional, moral and physical support that only a family can offer. I am open to the idea simply because it is best to give than to recieve. If we give, we will be rewarded 10 fold. That is my view.

I hope and pray that all goes well on meeting little Tresha. God bless you and your family~
