Depende maam Inday, there are those people nga close nimo, nga mosulti nga mamaylo kay mauwaw moingon nga mangayo.....pero di na mobayad.

Sorry, ice cream isn't on the list! But the following foods do have nutrients that can help fight stress and depression, says Elizabeth Somer, RD, author of Eat Your Way to Happiness.

Food: Oranges, lemons and other citrus fruits
Mood-Boosting Ingredient: Vitamin C
This vitamin helps you cope better in stressful times by lowering your levels of stress hormones. If you get a lot regularly, you'll feel calmer during tough situations.

Food: Nuts
Mood-Boosting Ingredients: Vitamin E, arginine (an amino acid) and magnesium
A handful of nuts will keep you full and satisfied because they have a low glycemic index-which means they don't jack up your blood sugar levels and cause mood swings. It also makes you feel good to eat something that seems decadent (they're considered a little bit naughty because they're high in fat) but actually has health benefits.

Food: Leafy greens
Mood-Boosting Ingredient: Folic Acid
Research has shown that the folic acid in leafy greens such as kale and spinach can reduce depression and even improve blood flow to the brain. If you're not eating at least one serving per day you're more than likely low in folic acid, so try getting more or consider taking a multivitamin that contains it.

Food: Salmon
Mood-Boosting Ingredient: DHA (an omega-3 fatty acid)
The omega-3s in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines have been found to improve your mood while lowering the risk of depression and age-related memory loss. The depression link is so strong that American Psychiatric Association suggests that anyone taking antidepressants and/or going through therapy also boost her intake of omega 3s.

Food: Dried cherries
Mood-Boosting Ingredients: Potassium, magnesium and vitamin C
These nutrients all work to curb your body's stress response. Dried cherries also keep your brain healthy because they're packed with antioxidants (including vitamin C), which prevent damage to your brain cells that can lead to memory problems.

When dealing with former loves, as I have told them, "We may no longer be lovers, but theres no reason to act uncivil with one another." Most of my former loves are close friends now, they come by whenever they want to hang out, or I drive to spend some time with them. Enjoy the sunset, see the stars, and open a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc together. Enjoy.

Workplace & Productivity / 7 Smart Career Tactics
November 08, 2009, 04:16:08 PM
One of the keys to a successful career is making the right decisions at critical junctures, whether you're fielding a job offer, asking for a promotion or plotting your next move.
Beyond those major decisions, every day presents myriad, small opportunities to make good -- and bad -- choices that could have a big impact.
In an uncertain economy, knowing how to proceed at these junctures becomes even more critical, according to Arizona-based business and workplace consultants Jamie and Maren Showkeir, co-authors of "Authentic Conversations."

Here are seven tactics to help keep your career on track.
1. Don't play the blame game.
It's better to acknowledge your role in the company's problems -- and contribute to their solutions -- than to blame management or your coworkers.
"Once you see yourself as being in control of your future, you can change the conversation with your coworkers, by saying, 'We need to do our best to make this business work, or we'll be in even deeper trouble,'" Maren Showkeir says.

2. Skip the gossip and get down to work.
Send a message to coworkers about priorities by concentrating on the tasks at hand, instead of spreading speculative information.
"If you're spending time speculating on what may happen next, it's counterproductive," Maren Showkeir says.

3. Get the real story.
Avoid unnecessary anxiety by approaching a trusted colleague to find out the real bottom line with your company.
"It's easy to get caught up in the what-ifs," Maren Showkeir says. "My advice is to go find out what your manager or boss knows, and figure out how to prepare for the future."

4. Don't play the victim.
Identifying problems within your company won't get you anywhere, unless you follow through with strategic solutions.
"Being a part of an organization means having information, making sense of it, and acting on it," Jamie Showkeir says.

5. Think big picture.
Collaboration is more important than ever during difficult times, so it's wise to put aside any rivalries for the sake of your company's future.
"If you're working together, you have the power of many minds to get things done," Maren Showkeir says. "Collaborations can be a really powerful way to both strengthen the business for when it improves again and to not feel so alone and overwhelmed by all the work staring you in the face."

6. Be a listener, not a talker.
Remember that what's left unspoken during a meeting is just as important as what's on the agenda.
"If we don't discuss concerns and fears, we're missing two-thirds of what's relevant to a project's success," Jamie Showkeir says.

7. You gotta have hope.
In the workplace, misery doesn't really love company, so try to focus on the possibility of better times ahead.
"Would you rather place your bet on the future by engaging in hope and optimism, or be pulled kicking and dragging into it?" Jamie Showkeir says. "How we answer that question ultimately drives our behavior and our success in how we engage others."

General Topic / The History of Christmas
November 08, 2009, 04:11:32 PM
In the Western world, the birthday of Jesus Christ has been celebrated on December 25th since AD 354, replacing an earlier date of January 6th. The Christians had by then appropriated many pagan festivals and traditions of the season, that were practiced in many parts of the Middle East and Europe, as a means of stamping them out.
There were mid-winter festivals in ancient Babylon and Egypt, and Germanic fertility festivals also took place at this time. The birth of the ancient sun-god Attis in Phrygia was celebrated on December 25th, as was the birth of the Persian sun-god, Mithras. The Romans celebrated Saturnalia, a festival dedicated to Saturn, the god of peace and plenty, that ran from the 17th to 24th of December. Public gathering places were decorated with flowers, gifts and candles were exchanged and the population, slaves and masters alike, celebrated the occasion with great enthusiasm.
In Scandinavia, a period of festivities known as Yule contributed another impetus to celebration, as opposed to spirituality. As Winter ended the growing season, the opportunity of enjoying the Summer's bounty encouraged much feasting and merriment.
The Celtic culture of the British Isles revered all green plants, but particularly mistletoe and holly. These were important symbols of fertility and were used for decorating their homes and altars.
New Christmas customs appeared in the Middle Ages. The most prominent contribution was the carol, which by the 14th century had become associated with the religious observance of the birth of Christ.
In Italy, a tradition developed for re-enacting the birth of Christ and the construction of scenes of the nativity. This is said to have been introduced by Saint Francis as part of his efforts to bring spiritual knowledge to the laity.
Saints Days have also contributed to our Christmas celebrations. A prominent figure in today's Christmas is Saint Nicholas who for centuries has been honored on December 6th. He was one of the forerunners of Santa Claus.
Another popular ritual was the burning of the Yule Log, which is strongly embedded in the pagan worship of vegetation and fire, as well as being associated with magical and spiritual powers.
Celebrating Christmas has been controversial since its inception. Since numerous festivities found their roots in pagan practices, they were greatly frowned upon by conservatives within the Church. The feasting, gift-giving and frequent excesses presented a drastic contrast with the simplicity of the Nativity, and many people throughout the centuries and into the present, condemn such practices as being contrary to the true spirit of Christmas.
The earliest English reference to December 25th as Christmas Day did not come until 1043.

Fashion Trend / 5 great benefits to better brows
November 08, 2009, 04:07:20 PM
It’s amazing what great eyebrows can do for you. Just some eyebrow maintenance techniques and other simple steps can change many areas of your life.

1. With great eyebrows, you will look your best, even without makeup on. Women look amazing without makeup if they happen to have well-sculpted brows. It changes the whole structure of your face.

2. You’ll always be your most beautiful self. When you’re at your best, your life will improve by leaps and bounds.

3. You’ll be more self confident. Knowing that you look great, you’ll feel better about yourself and have more confidence. And having more confidence means that people will be drawn to you.

4. You’ll be more attractive to prospective loves. Looking for a little romance? If you’re looking great, you’ll improve your odds! No one can resist a beautiful looking lady.

5. You’ll be prettier! Heck, we all want to look great, right? You’ll look so much better with the right eyebrows!

MELBOURNE (AFP) - â€" A "miracle" Australian baby has become the first person cured of a rare and deadly brain-melting condition after doctors gambled on an experimental drug tested only on mice, they said on Thursday.
The child, known only as "Baby Z", was facing a painful death of seizures and brain damage from molybdenum cofactor deficiency, a genetic defect which causes a build-up of toxic sulphite and usually kills in months.
But she made an amazing recovery just three days after first being given the untested treatment which was flown in from Germany and rushed through the courts.
"We are looking at her now and she is just an absolute miracle -- she has defied everybody," her mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told reporters.
Baby Z started having seizures within 60 hours of her birth in May 2008, prompting her family to appeal to biochemist Rob Gianello to help beat the previously incurable condition which affects just one in a million Australians.
"There was courage and there was death -- we opted for courage," the mother said. "If she wasn't treated she would die a very painful death."
Baby Z's doctor Alex Veldman said Gianello discovered an experimental drug which had been successfully used on mice by Germany's Gunther Schwarz, but had never been tested on humans.
As Schwarz couriered his entire stock of the compound from Cologne to Melbourne, doctors were in a race against time to get ethics approval from the hospital and a court order clearing its use, with Baby Z worsening by the hour.
"The team ... managed to get this therapy from bench to bedside in about two weeks, a process which normally takes several years," Veldman said.
Within hours of receiving her first dose of the drug, cyclic pyranopterin monophosphate (cPMP), Baby Z's sulphite levels plunged by more than two-thirds and were at normal levels within about three days.
Veldman said Baby Z's alertness improved and her twitching slowed rapidly, with her seizures dropping by 90 percent in three weeks.
"The response was just amazing," he told AFP.
"We can treat this in humans for the first time in (the history of) mankind. It has the potential to save lives all around the world."
Baby Z's development has been slowed by the brain damage she suffered before the treatment, and Veldman said she would need a cPMP injection every day for the rest of her life.
But her mother said the baby, now 18 months old, had started speaking and was physically active.
"Every day just gets better and better. We look at her every day and just think, 'Wow'," she said. "(The procedure) was a tiny bit of hope but, when you have nothing, that is a lot of hope."
Veldman said a second child, "Baby P", had since started cPMP treatment in Germany and was "improving rapidly".
The cases were now being analysed ahead of a planned international human trial of the medication at Melbourne's Monash Medical Centre, he said.

Philippine Daily News / Grenade explodes in an old church
November 08, 2009, 03:55:24 PM
POLICE are conducting a deep investigation to unmask the suspect behind the grenade explosion in an old church in Zamboanga City.
Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) reported that the incident took place around 1 a.m. Saturday at the old San Isidro Church in the village of Talon-Talon, five kilometers east of Zamboanga City.
No one was, however, killed or injured in the explosion that caused minor destruction of the old church's fence and have awaken some of the residents living nearby.
The Explosive Ordnance Demolition (EOD) personnel of the local police have recovered fragment of grenade that was used by the suspect.
They also recovered a letter addressed to Mayor Celso Lobregat which was submitted to the police crime laboratory to trace fingerprints.
No one among the residents living near the church was able to see the suspect since they were asleep at the time of the incident.

Love Talk / How To Have A Healthy Relationship
November 08, 2009, 03:48:33 PM
1. Do not expect anyone to be responsible for your happiness. Ask yourself why you weren't happy? Too often relationships fail because someone is unhappy and blames their partner. Your life is solely under your control, with your relationship you have to take the good with the bad. You need to give as well as take.

2. Make and keep clear agreements. Respect the differences between yourself and your partner. Do not expect your partner to agree with you on every issue. Reach a mutual agreement or plan, and then commit to it. If you say you're going to meet your partner for lunch at noon, be on time, or call if you're going to be late. If you agree to have a monogamous relationship, keep that agreement. Keeping agreements shows respect for yourself and your partner, as well as creating a sense of trust and safety.

3. Use communication to establish a common ground to understand different points of view and to create a mutual, collaborative agreement or plan. You can either choose to be right, or you can have a successful relationship. You can't always have both. Many people argue to be "right" about something. They say. "If you loved me, you would..." and argue to hear the other say, "Fine, you're right." If you are generally more interested in being right, this approach will not create a healthy relationship. Having a healthy relationship means that, while you have your experience, and your partner has his or her experience, you love and share and learn from those experiences. And if you can't reach any kind of mutual agreement, that doesn't mean either of you are wrong.

4. Approach your relationship as a learning experience. Each one has important information for you to learn. A true relationship will consist of both partners who need to equally contribute. Not only is that the only type of relationship that will work out, but it will work out in both of your favor.

5. Tell the unarguable truth. Be truthful to yourself and your partner if you want true love. Many people are taught to lie to protect someone's feelings, either their own or those of their partner. Lies create disconnection between you and your relationship, even if your partner never finds out about it. For any sort of relationship to work you need to have trust.

6. Forgive one another. Forgiveness is a decision of letting go of the past and focusing on the present. It's about taking control of your current situation. Talk about the issue and try to reach a mutual agreement on how to handle the situation in the future and then commit to it. If you can't reach an agreement, it's a bad sign. If you learn from the past and do not repeat the same pattern, it's a good sign. It's the only way to prevent yourself from more disappointment, anger or resentment. Respect your partner, when your partner tells you to leave them alone, do give him or her the time and space.

7. Review your expectations. Try to be as clear as you can about any expectations - including acceptable and unacceptable behaviour and attitudes, especially attitudes towards money. Everybody needs love, intimacy, affection, and affirmation.

8. Be Responsible. Here's a new definition: Responsible means having the ability to respond. Respond to the real problem, to your true needs. It does not mean you or your partner are to blame. There is tremendous power in claiming your creation. If you've been snippy to your partner, own up to it and say sorry. You'll be amazed how this works

9. Appreciate yourself and your partner. In the midst of an argument, it can be difficult to find something to appreciate. Start by generating appreciation in moments of non-stress, and that way when you need to be able to do it during a stressful conversation, it will be easier. One definition of appreciation is to be sensitively aware so you don't have to be sugar-coating anything; so tell your beloved that you love him or her, and that you don't want to argue but to talk and make it better.

10. Admit your mistakes and say sorry. Right after a misunderstanding or argument, tell your partner to give you some time to think of the wrong and right things that you and he/she did. Tell your partner to do the same thing and talk to them after 10-15 minutes. Tell your partner to give you time to talk and explain to them why you were angry, the wrong things you did, the things they did that you did not like and what you would like them to change. Ask your partner to do the same thing and give them a fair chance to talk and explain also. This will make your relationship stronger and help strengthen the communication between you and your partner.

11. Spend some quality time together. No matter how busy you two are, there is always an excitement when you do something together, when you share your precious time. Play a sport, eat at a restaurant, watch your favorite movies together. You will feel the magic of love and connection that you have with each other.

12. Laugh. Not only is it true that laughter is the best medicine, but it's also true that laughter can make a great relationship. In a tedious relationship, it is hard to communicate with your partner and share humorous feelings. Not only does laughing establish a connection, it can help keep passionate feelings in perspective.
