they have an early 5 am mass, too! i remember waking up at 5:30 am and asked where one of our katabang , Manang Arsing, was. I found out that she had left early to attend the 5 am mass. When she came back, she was wearing all white, and still had her head dress, the one that covers the back of the head and the face. old style gajod ni si Manang Arsing.

the next day, i left early to join manang arsing for the 5 am mass. i was so amazed to see so many people attending the 5 am mass. Valencianhons' faith life really inspire me! After mass, the people went about their daily and work life, etc, truck drivers, nurses, fishermen, doctors, teachers, municipal workers and administrators etc. Inspiring!

Tagaan og grasya sa Senyor Santo Nino...

Indeed, scholars may have logical explanations for these strange phenomena but the people of Valencia attributed all these to the miracles of their beloved Senor Santo Nino, the Refuge, the Comforter, and the Protector of His people in times of sorrows as well as in times of joy.

III. In October 15, 2013, a massive eartquake hit Bohol Province, leading to the destruction of much of the local infrastructure of the province, the loss of many other churches in other towns around Bohol. However, miraculously, Valencia's Santo Nino Parish was unscathed.
#517
II. During World War II, a competition among the Bolo Batallion and Women’s Auxiliary Service under the Bohol Area command was held in Valencia. The competition was participated in by contingents from the towns comprising half of the province. The contingents from the other towns have already arrived a day before but on the eve of the competition. Japanese ships were sighted in the high seas and intelligence report indicated that a landing was planned to attack the huge gathering of the resistance movement. At the news, people immediately scampered away to all directions. The contingents from other towns were reported to have fled to their respective hometowns passing through mountain roads and uncharted trails, while local residents braved the dark night to reach evacuation huts in forests and mountain bushes. The Japanese forces, however, failed to make the landing. Filipinos who served in the Japanese forces recalled after the war that Valencia that particular night was completely invisible due to the heavy fogs that surrounded its shores.

I. Once, a severe drought hit the town which threatened to bring famine and starvation to the people. A novena was said in honor of the Holy Child and no sooner was it started when the much awaited rains came to save their crops and work animals. In another incident, a big fire fanned by a strong breeze broke out in the vicinity of the church. Fearing that the fire might raze down the church, the parish priest rushed inside to save the Holy Sacrament and the statue of the Sto. Niño. Coming out, the priest raised the statue of the Sto. Niño reverently towards the raging fire and miraculously the wind calmed down and the fire was easily controlled by the gathering parishioners.
#519
Valencianhons attributed the following samples of extra ordinary incidents to the miraculous intercession of the Santo Niño of Valencia: -
#520
Fr. Mariano Cornago was the first parish priest of Valencia. He started the building of the poblacion and the construction of the church. He was succeeded in January 1878 by Fr. Francisco Arcaya who completed the construction of the church on September 7, 1882. He also completed the convent started by his predecessor and build the old cemetery surrounded by a wall of stone tablets we call ”cota”.
#521
History of Santo Niño of Valencia

In the beginning, Valencia was part of Dimiao. The establishment of the parish of Valencia came a year after Panangatan, Canmanico and Cutcutan, all eastern barrios of the old town of Dimiao were constituted into a separate and independent town named Valencia on October 27, 1869. The Senor Santo Nino was officially installed as patron of Valencia, Bohol by virtue of letter number 877 of the Ministry of the Overseas Territories in Madrid, Spain dated September 3, 1870.
#522
Within the church is the original icon of Senor Santo Nino that came to the church when it was first built in the 18th century. Valencianhons, since the founding of our town, celebrated their baptism, first communion, confirmation, marriage, and also final rites in this beautiful church. Thanks to the blessings of Senor Santo Nino, our parish survived unscathed by the Earthquake that ravaged Bohol in October 2013.

Viva Senor Santo Nino ! Viva ! Viva ! Viva!

One of the signs of the genuineness of inspirations, especially extraordinary ones, is peace and tranquility of heart in those who receive them, since the Holy Spirit is indeed powerful, but with a strength that is gentle, mild and peaceful...On the contrary, the evil spirit is turbulent, bitter and restless. Those who follow his hellish suggestions in the belief that they are heavenly inspirations can usually be recognized because they are unsettled, headstrong and haughty. Under the pretext of zeal, they silence everyone and find fault with everything...In the name of zeal for God's honor they indulge in the passion of self-love.

Tranquility of spirit is one of the most pleasing virtues in the spiritual life; every Christian must try his or her hardest to acquire it. How sweet and pleasant is the consideration of the life of our Savior! In it we see marvelously resplendent this perfect tranquility amid the multiplicity of events that succeeded one another.

Very inspiring gajod. His rebuffing of the status quo and the powers of the world is akin to what the Lord Jesus Christ did when The Lord Jesus Christ chastized the Pharisees, the Sadducees on their actions and self-righteousness. At his core, Pope Francis is a priest, and to be a priest is to be like Christ. He truly is a Vicar of the Lord Jesus Christ. I like him. He inspires me.

Viva Il Papa ! May many, many, many more young men answer the calling to the priesthood and emulate this Christ-like calling...! ;)

December 13

If we have a bit little of the love of God is us, to Him alone should we give honor and glory; He has placed it in us, for without Him we can do nothing. There remains for us the obligation of gratitude. This is the way God works toward us in His goodness; He gives us His benefits and expects only our thanks in return. Since without His grace we are nothing, assuredly we should live in thanksgiving, doing nothing except for His glory.

The consideration of sins committed is accompanied by a certain horror and consternation which terrifies the soul, so there is need to replace it with confidence in God...It is necessary to fear, but it is likewise necessary to have hope: fear, so as not to become proud; and hope, so as not to become discouraged or despair. Fear and hope should never be separated, because if fear alone is present, then we give way to desperation; and if there is hope without fear, then we have presumption...Yes, we must always unite a confident hope to the fear that arises out of an awareness of our sins.

There is no need to doubt that we possess faith in God, simply because we find it difficult to keep clear of sin, or find ourselves diffident or even fearing that we will not be able to resist occasions of temptation. No! Diffidence in our strength of will is not due to lack of resolve but is a true acknowledgement of our misery. The fear of being able to resist temptations is better than considering ourselves strong and secure, because all that we do not expect from our own strength we hope to receive by means of God's grace...We must simply be on our guard and be humble so as not to fall victim to temptation.

Question and Answer / Re: What is demonology?
December 12, 2013, 10:57:14 AM

The Catholic Church's top exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth.

The Catholic Church's top exorcist, who claims to have sent 160,000 demons back to hell, says he wants Pope Francis to allow all priests to start performing the ritual to deal with a rising demand for exorcisms from the faithful.

Father Gabriele Amorth, 88, who also heads the International Association of Exorcists, told The Sunday Times that he will ask Pope Francis to allow all priests the right to do exorcisms without the church's approval. According to the report, priests currently need special approval from their bishop to perform the rite and it is rarely granted.

"I will ask the pope to give all priests the power to carry out exorcisms, and to ensure priests are properly trained for these starting with the seminary. There's a huge demand for them," said Father Amorth.

He explained that he was inspired to make the request after watching Pope Francis perform what he insists was an exorcism on a man "possessed by four demons" in St. Peter's Square.

"The pope is also the Bishop of Rome, and like any bishop he is also an exorcist," Amorth reportedly told La Repubblica newspaper. "It was a real exorcism. If the Vatican has denied this, it shows that they understand nothing."

"There was now, more than ever, a need for exorcists to combat people possessed by 'sorcerers' and 'Satanists,'" he noted in that report.

An 84-page update of exorcism rites compiled in 1614 and drawn up in 1998 stipulates how Catholic priests trained as exorcists should operate. According to the guidelines established by the church, they have to follow a ritual known as "De exorcismis et supplicationibus quibusdam," or "Of exorcisms and certain supplications."

Amorth explained that Pope Francis' exorcism on May 19 helped to balance the growing atheism in the world where people don't believe in the Devil anymore.

"We live in an age in which God has been forgotten. And wherever God is not present, the Devil rules," said Amorth.

"Today, unfortunately, bishops don't appoint sufficient exorcists. We need many more. I hope that Rome will send out directives to bishops around the world calling on them to appoint more exorcists."

Amorth is also an outspoken critic of yoga and Harry Potter books and dismissed them as ungodly hobbies.

"Practicing yoga brings evil as does reading Harry Potter. They may both seem innocuous but they both deal with magic and that leads to evil," he said.

In addressing Harry Potter, he said: "People think it is an innocuous book for children but it's about magic and that leads to evil. In Harry Potter the Devil is at work in a cunning and crafty way, he is using his extraordinary powers of magic and evil."

"Satan is always hidden and the thing he desires more than anything is for people to believe he does not exist," he noted. "He studies each and every one of us and our tendencies towards good and evil and then he tempts us."
