i don't know, ashton. i gathered that the location of Tagbilaran Airport has become a metropolis. it's too small to accommodate big planes and it can't be extended due to its location. panglao is a good location "kuno" since it has a vast plain terrain.

i just hope panglao would not become another boracay. well, boracay has learned their lessons the hard way, though.

with our vigilant eyes and ears, we can make Bohol progress sans pollution (in many aspects!)

LGU Philippines / Re: Political Dynasty in Bohol
August 31, 2007, 04:39:12 PM
people already know that jun. it's just hard for them to follow that. oftentimes, people blame the "government" for the hard times they are drowned into but then again, it's the people who chose those who are seating in the government. but then again, it's a vicious cycle. it's like the chicken and the egg thing. unless we break the cycle, we will all be drowned into the suffocating truth of poverty and all that comes with it.

we have to learn this all together.

Mike:

How can I help? I don't want to handle the money. I'll ask DYRD if they can help  or Bank of Commerce mismo.

Talking about the pictures, the local newspapers are unethical. They showed a colored close up shot of the slain security guard with blood all over.

My cousin who works at china bank, which is stands next to city savings bank and bank of commerce got a video of the slain security guard and the wounded suspect on her camera phone.

Introduce Yourself / Re: WHO AM I?
August 30, 2007, 03:24:24 PM
Jun: Yeah, love begets love. Good things beget good things. I just believe that if one holds that great big love in one's heart, then every good thing would naturally emanate from within. Goodness comes natural for that person.

Here's 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. The Book of Love.

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,
but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant

5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; [2]

6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

:)

Good news to All Artists, Cultural Workers, and Heritage Advocates: The Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage (BACH) Code is ready for its second reading at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. It will be sponsored by the SP Committee Chair for Culture and Arts. The BACH Code is prepared by a group arts and cultural advocates! Great work guys.

The code hopes to protect, promote, and develop the cultural (tangible and intangible) heritage of Bohol.

The Panglao International Airport is a project of the National Government. It's a joint project of the Department of Transportation and Communication, Department of Tourism, and Manila International Airport. With tourism as one of our major economic driver together agriculture, the airport hoped to boost the tourism industry and thus giving a boost to our economy.

Personally though, I'm against of putting the airport in Panglao since it's such a small area and people are afraid that it will become too crowded. But then again, I'm hopeful that it will be managed well. With people more and more aware and involved of Bohol's development, I just hope things will work out well. Let's continue to be involved with how things are going.  :D

JUN: yes, it's really a good song. one of my favorites.

WHO AM I?

3 positive things about me:
1. i'm passionate about work (and expect other people to be the same)
2. i'm optimistic about other people (but can be pretty naive about other people's negative sides)
3. i believe in love (love begets love! everything follows: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, meekness, faith!)

3 negative things about me:
1. i can be lazy at times
2. i'm often impatient with things (i don't like to wait for people and opportunities to come my way)
3. low tolerance to mediocrity (i often hide it  but i get annoyed by half-hearted work and little talent? grrr!  ;D)

?me sings a song from FAME, the musical:

OUT HERE ON MY OWN by Irene Cara

Sometimes I wonder where I've been
Who I am
Do I fit in.
Make believin' is hard alone,
Out here on my own

We're always provin' who we are
Always reachin' for the risin' star
To guide me far
And shine me home
Out here on my own

When I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you

Until the morning sun appears
Making light of all my fears
I dry the tears
I've never shown
Out here on my own

When I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you

Sometimes I wonder where I've been
Who I am
Do I fit in
I may not win
But I can't be thrown
Out here on my own
On my own

traysikol ra amo diri...

Bitaw...

I like a red 1978 (that's the last year they produced the beetle, right?) VW beetle. My dad's car when he was a bachelor was a red (that turned pale yellow later) beetle. I had the chance to ride it when I was little. I have great memories of it. I like to have one. The new beetles now look different. Sayang. I love bumblebee of Transformer. He was a beetle in the cartoon versions (di ba?) but the new movie turned him into that posh sports car. What was that onic?

My Korean Kia Picanto is red. It's a hutchback. Small but spacious. I like it. Just good enough for a petite person like me! heeheh! And just good enough for the narrow streets of Tagbilaran! But it can be tough, too. I rode it to San Isidro via Antequera with huge boulders and rocks along the way. It was a fun ride! I like driving it to Trinidad, too. Through the long straight roads, I can drive fast. Wooooh! With my picanto, I drive and usually survive! bwaaha!

Queen: I lost that memory but I'm sure I said thank you. I usually say "thank you" to generous and kind words being said to me. It's not really "owning" what you say I have but it's being thankful that someone appreciates me. Rest assured, the feeling is mutual. Hail! Hail the queen!

Ashton, yeah. So I've heard... (as if waz ko kaabot ato! hehehe! I'm young pa man!)

RE: Helping Others

We can contact a school, an orphanage or a crisis intervention center. The University of Bohol has an adopt a school program and it's helping schools in Corella, Loay, and somewhere else. We can help them, too.  ;)

Or we can help the Bohol Crisis Intervention Center (BCIC). It's a home of children and women survivors of incest rape, rape, physical abuse as well as the babies of these children and women. They have therapy sessions, skills training, medical and legal assistance. Organizations, churches, schools, and NGOs visit them to help them in different ways. We can help them, too. Those who wish to send help can contact FEED THE CHILDREN PHILIPPINES, INC., the NGO that is managing this government facility.

I remember one of you here was planning a get-together, maybe we can visit the center for a reach-out activity. Last time I was there, we had an art workshop/therapy with the kids.

Yep, yep, yep. there's more to art than aesthetics gayud.  ;)

Nindot tong among giadto sa Dagat-dagatan, Novaliches last year. The village is a relocation area for scatters in Manila. UNFPA helped out in organizing the village to come up with population-health-environment programs. The youth helped out in their advocacies. One way to organize the youth was through the performing arts. They have a dance group and a band, who also writes its own songs about issues concerning the youth like poverty, teenage pregnancies, drug addiction, peer pressures, family problems, gender issues, and others. They have produced 2 albums already.

I hope NGOs, schools, and individuals can also do something like this. Like encourage our local bands to produce songs with depth and value. Dili nang binisayang binastos. no?   8)

La Salle people look down on ADMU and vice versa. UP looks down on everyone! UP, ADMU, and DLSU look down on AMA! (LouyA!) toink! Depende lang sa magpapildi. It even brings chaos labaw na kung UAAP na kay moabot gyud sa point nga magbono gyud og DLSU ug ADMU na ang magduwa.  ;D UP hates the pa-coño effect of ADMU and La Salle. I bet ADMU and La Salle hate the barumbado effect of the Isko. School culture lang na but away from that culture and being individuals stripped to the core, dili man sila ing-ana.  :)

Still, beyond the "discriminating" facade, I know there is deep respect among institutions. I know UP recognizes Silliman labaw na sa field of arts and literature. I recognize Silliman for being the instrument of my Christianity.  :)

I took up Bachelor of Arts in Film and Audio Visual Communication at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. I proceeded to enroll in a graduate program in Comparative Literature for a year but dropped out after my enrollment records are nowhere to be found in the registrar's office. I then went to the De La Salle University in Manila and took Masters of Arts in Communication Major in Applied Media Studies. I finished all my academic requirements and finished my comprehensive exam. I then went home to Bohol to have my research for my thesis. I ended up working for the government. And no thesis until now!  :(

UPDiliman was founded in 1908 by the Americans. It's a state university but is autonomous in its operations. It's not under CHED and DECS. Sa habuganay, UP ang kinahambugan for they say, "There are only two universities in the Philippines- University of the Philippines and others." Bitaw, the university is not the best university daw in the Philippines but it has the best students daw. The students are taught how to learn so when they go out to the real world, they fit like Cinderella's shoes on anyone's foot. hehehe! The students are taught academic freedom and are influenced to fight for democracy, human rights, and wayward government officials, among others. Haha! Too much freedom that you can wear your pajamas to school (which my math prof once did)!

De La Salle University Manila was founded in 1911. It's run by the La Sallite brothers. It's the subject of a lot of "discriminating" jokes from the University of the Philippines and Ateneo De Manila University. Anyhow, I found out that the school has a close-knit family relationship and its faculty are very concerned and caring towards its students. It hopes to develop good leadership among men and women through Christian values for the development of the country.  ;D

I do not work for BTO but this is what i have to say.

The BTO and the provincial government of Bohol has hired pacific consultants international to create the Bohol Tourism Master Plan. This service provider is the one who created the tourism master plan of phuket, thailand and some other Asian countries like Indonesia.

But as I've said, the promotion of eco-cultural tourism in the province is not merely the job of BTO. Our pursuit is a collective, collaborative, team effort among LGUs, NGOs, business entities and the PGB. The BTO has done its part. Perhaps, kuwang para ninyo. But it has worked on its share for Bohol to become a no. 1 tourist destination in the country in 2005 and its succeeding years. BTO has been part of WOW philippines and Travel Mart for many years. I was there at the intramuros for WOW 2005 and we were adjudged the best booth there by the Region 7 DOT Chair Ms. Roa. The BTO was in Korea and Japan, and lately in China. As I mentioned in my other posts, I saw how the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier along with Boracay took the limelight in Nanning, China during the 3rd China-ASEAN Expo. I was not there for the expo but I was there for an international exhange program. The Chinese were so amazed with Bohol and the Philippines.

As for the videos that you were lamenting about, it must due to the lack of consultations. The Chocolate Hills are seen in the last part of the video but it's not in the song. Sige na lang. It was done years ago. Today, we have a DOT Region 7 video done by Teddy Ramasola. Of course, wa na gyud makalimti ang Bohol. Teddy also created a Bohol video, which is sponsored by BTO and the province of Bohol.

I guess, its easy to put blame on government just for the mere fact that it is government. i myself has so many complaints about our system. But before we say anything, look closer and examine the realities. Let us remember that the government is not just Erico Aumentado or Julius Herrera, it is the people who work hand in hand to progress this little island province of ours to put it in the top 10 developed provinces in 2010. The government are "the little people" like us working hard to put our visions into reality. They need to a little tap on the back for booting Bohol out of the Club 20 poorest provinces in the Philippines.

I was about to lose my hopes on the government system but I saw how the people in the government strive to become better and I appreciated it. If you, too, will just look how the people in the government are struggling but trying hard to make a difference, then, you'd understand what I mean.

Gahilak pod ko ani. :P I can't help it. There was this activity among international youth leaders trainees in Nanning, China and we were to introduce the Philippines to the Chinese officials, media, teachers and students of the China Guangxi International Youth Exchange Institute as well as to the delegates from Laos. We showed the video "biyahe tayo" before a powerpoint presentation about Pinas. Grabe, nanghilak ang mga Pinoy. The Chinese students shouted after the presentation, "Please, take us to the Philippines!" Grabe gyud ang feeling.

We often take for granted what we are and what we have as Filipinos especially when we are here in the Philippines. Kung mahilayo na 'ta, ana nato mabati ang kamingaw ug mahimata sa kanindot sa atong nasud.  ;D

The Philippines is still home. And Bohol is our paradise. Mabuhi ang Bohol!  :)

The University of Bohol (UB) used to be called the Rafael Palma College (RPC), named after a great Filipino scholar of his time. It was established in 1946 after the WWII. It reached university status in 1970. Today, UB is gearing up for accreditation from PAASCU.

Remember the tagline, "Where students today, leaders tomorrow?" Mao na ang UB.

One day, she was "misbehaving" so my co-teacher caught her attention. My pupil then faced the teacher and said in a shrill voice, "You, you wicked stepmothah!"  ;D

Bucarez started out selling the cookies packed in brown paper bags. eventually, they used a sealed plastic bag with the a picture of the chocolate hills drawn on it. Now, the cookies are packed in that unique packaging.

i love the kisses.... mwah!

(ripped from my column, LA VIDA LOCA at lifestylebohol, bohol chronicle)

Mcluhan’s Global Village: A Bohol Experience

Yes, I wrote about him before. It’s not that he’s my favorite (or is he?) but Marshall Mcluhan and his theories on global village and technological determinism keep on trailing behind me like a tail of sorts (ooops, as if I have one?) With technological determinism, he contended that technology is an extension of the human faculty. He talked about the wheel as an extension of the feet and the book as extension of the eyes. Today, we say that the computer and the internet have extended most of our faculties- our eyes, mouths, ears, arms, hearts, (and our entire being, that is) and enabled us to reach other people just by clicking the mouse and tinkering with the keyboard. Indeed, technology has shrunk the world into a smaller community and made interaction among world-wide neighbors more constant and immediate. The world has become Mcluhan’s global village.

Now, the tail is wiggling as I browse the internet enjoying my interaction with fellow Boholanos from all over the world in Tubag Bohol at www.tubagbohol.mikeligalig.com. For the past few weeks, my own faculties have been extended through Tubag Bohol, which its members now call their virtual home. This addictive website created by Michael Ligalig (yes, the writer/poet Mike, who is now based in Thailand) allows its users to post and read news updates and articles of various topics from politics, education, history, culture, tourism, entertainment, and even chismis among others. And since it works as a forum, it allows users to post comments and feedback. Thus, the site’s name.  Although, it does not have a chatroom, it works like one with users logging online 24/7.

Most of its users hide their real identities by using nicks and I only know a few of them in person but still Tubag Bohol is a place where I meet new friends as we exchange our thoughts and feelings about many things, debate on certain issues, talk about ourselves and other people, and share our love and pride for Bohol and its people. For my part, it also serves as my mental workout place where I can blog my thoughts.

Although Mcluhan contended that the medium is the message that leaves an impact on its user, I still believe that the message brought by the medium initiated by the user still has the greater impact on us. What I find heartwarming is how these Boholanos (wherever they are in the world) share their dreams for Bohol, our homeland.  Yes, most of them may be thousands of miles away but they have found means by which they can extend their faculties and virtually return home.

Mcluhan is right. What he failed to explain is why Boholanos have the need to return home labaw na kung mosakit na ang tiyan like the giants who formed the Chocolate Hills… hehe! That’s another story!

Come, join us!

***
Shrinking the world a little bit more is station DYRD, which is now on air 24/7 with a world-wide coverage through www.dyrdam.com. It’s extending our ears allowing us to hear more stories from Bohol wherever we are in the world. Speaking from the DYRD’s end, we say, “Good morning, good afternoon, good evening to everyone!”

Now, the global village is not just borderless but timeless as well.

***
Oh, well! The internet (as well as other technology and electronic gadgets- cellphones included) may have bridged our hearts from miles away and the words and emoticons on our screens may have put smiles on our faces, but nothing can replace the real presence of friends and loved ones we miss.

Gapaabot gihapon ’ta sa ilang pag-uli…

:P

Talk of the Town / Re: Chaos at Chocolate Hills?

i wish i could show the BP to you so you can also be a part of it. but the entire plan is 70 pages.  ;D maybe i'll give you the executive summary? maybe you guys can write what you want to happen to chocolate hills. like what you want it to become. what you want to see and experience there. unsa may inyong mga experiences diha sa inyong dapit? please, write back asap. wala pa man na naprint out ang plan. i still have it with me.  ;D  [/b]

for now, here's the gist:

we want the chocolate hills to become a true eco-cultural tourist destination. for now, the complex is a 30-minute experience. we want to turn it into an eco park and resort from being a mere look out point. we took our inspiration from the blue mountains region in katoomba, australia. it's a world heritage site, which banks on its mountains and valleys (its bio-diversity) as a heritage tourism area. they had the same experience with the chocolate hills. they also experienced a downfall of sorts. recently, they also repackaged the area. we were able to have a meeting with the blue mountains tourism council and their regional marketing group called the blue mountains tourism ltd. they were so helpful. they shared their experiences and even gave us their business plan. we also gathered inspiration from my trip to yulin, china where they had this eco-cultural trail within a tourist area (which is the yulin cave), which allows visitors to experience the chinese culture. shenzhen's cultural folk village was my inspiration, too.
we also used the DOT conceptual plan of the complex. but before we jumped into writing the business plan, we asked around, did a survey on what people want to see/experience at the complex.

regarding the legal form, aduna sab miy gi-recommend apan anaa ra na sa mga "nagdumala" kung unsa ang ilang i-approve. naa ra na sa mga "nagdumala" kung tagdon nila ang among business plan, which focuses on eco-cultural tourism (with emphasis on community involvement) kay sa tinouray ang carmen usa sa mga kinapobrehan nga mga lungsod dinhi sa bohol na unta ang choco hills man maoy atong "signature" tourist destination sa atong isla. aside from the consideration nga makasapi gyud ang complex, aduna sab untay mga services/activities nga makaapil ug makasapi ang mga tawo sa kumunidad. aside from community empowerment, there should be emphasis on cultural heritage, and environment protection.

Daghan pa kaayong issues regarding the chocolate hills. like the ownership issue for one, which is beyond my capacity to address. dili ko mo-comment on the present management or how they handle the finances or the financial report, or how the present complex look like. Basta kami naghimo ra mi sa among output for our 6-month training on public enterprise management nga gihimo didto sa davao, negros occidental ug sa sydney, australia. kami, as part of our training, were tasked to prepare a business plan (nga mura na man tog feasibility study ug operations manual...) kung gamiton, maayo. we already presented the plan to the local finance committee, to the members of the sangguniang panlalawigan, to the management executive team, to the governor, and to the pahrdf (which is headed by a Filipino, btw.)

to be continued na lang kay gigutom na ko. bye...  :P
