Fungi do not bear flowers. They do come in different colors, although most are either brown or black. There are, however, species that are orange, green, red, etc.

Philippine Showcase / Re: Ang Pasko Ay Sumapit
January 27, 2010, 11:00:15 PM
"Where credit is due"
FUNFARE by Ricardo F. Lo
Updated May 15, 2002 12:00 (Philippine Star)

Funfare just got a letter from Ivar Tulfo Gica, founder-trustee of the Kultura Bisaya Foundation, Inc. and president of the Rotary Club of Manila East (1991-92), clarifying certain misconceptions about some classical Filipino songs and setting the record straight.

Excerpt of Gica's Letter:

The original Ang Pasko ay Sumapit is Kasadya Ning Taknaa, which is still the most popular Cebuano Christmas carol in the Visayas and Mindanao and being sung in its original Bisayan lyrics. The music was composed in 1933 by buddies Vicente Rubi with lyrics by Mariano Vestil, both of Mambaling, Cebu City. With the help of Manuel Velez of Sa Kabukiran fame, it was copyrighted also in 1933. In the early 1950s, Villar Records bought its rights, recorded and credited the entire work to the two Cebuano chums.

The song was used as background music in the film that starred Darmo von Frazier Acosta that wrongly credited Josefino Cenizal as the composer. Cenizal claimed he composed it, inspired by the strains from carolers on the Bantayan shorelines while he was passing through in a banca in Cebu where he evacuated during the war (1942), about a decade after it was copyrighted by Rubi and Vestil. But even if this was just claimed to be their Tagalog translation, its lyrics suffer in comparison to the spirit and ardor of the jagged musical lines characteristic of Bisayan compositions.

Observe the real McCoy: Kasadya ’ning taknaa dapit sa Kahimayaan/Maoy among nakita ang tagbalay nga masanagon/Bulahan ug bulahan ang tagbalay nga giawitan…

(‘Tis a moment of bliss, next door to Paradise/We behold a beaming family by this song blessed/…), incorporating the translation by Napoleon G. Rama, chairman of the prestigious Kulturang Bisaya Foundation, Inc. whose founding members include Chief Justice Davide, Ombudsman Aniano Desierto, retired Court of Appeals presiding justice Jesus Elbinias, former Sen. Rene Espina, UP President Francisco Nemenzo, ex-UP Pres. Jose Abueva, Concert pianist Ingrid Sala-Santamaria, Dr. Teresita Maceda, Dr. Erlinda Alburo, and others.

(Christmas is here/let us altogether/sing beautiful songs). Such a drab, dispirited translation, a poor parody of Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Ang nakalahi man gud sa ubang lungsod, bisan kon daghan og business establishments, taxes and fees ray ilang bayran ngadto sa LGU. In the case of Danao, ang LGU ang nag manage sa extreme adventure tourism, so derecho sa munisipyo ang income. LGUs are encouraged to manage economic enterprises (like markets, water systems, etc.), and Danao found the most profitable one. Layo ra kaayo ang income sa Panglao kon itandi sa Danao, even if most of Bohol's resorts are concentrated on the island municipality.

Danao is also becoming Bohol's prime showcase for organic agriculture.

Third-class municipalities have an annual gross that does not reach 50 million, which is the minimum gross for first-class municipalities. Danao has gone beyond this mark.

Danao, first class? bibo pa ang among barangay sa poblacion sa danao

Before the extreme tourism adventure package was offered by Danao, it was 4th or 5th class. Now that it is earning unexpectedly high from it, its income zoomed to first-class level, although as of now, it has not applied for reclassification. Mao ni sulti sa one of their senior LGU staff. More facilities and activities have currently been added. Puno kada adlaw. Maglalis na kon kinsay una.  True, mingaw ang lungsod, pero daku og income, which is the gauge of a town's classification.

Ok. Abi nakog natupngan niya ang Talibon, Ubay, Carmen, Tubigon, Loon, ug Inabanga, and lately, Danao, which can qualify for first class. When man ang Valencia nagsugod pagka 6th class? When pud sya na third class? That's a big leap, indeed.

The last time I saw him was last Friday, January 15, at the 30th (Pearl) Anniversary of the Cebu Popular Music Festival at Cebu Coliseum. Vina Morales called prodded him to come up the stage while she, with other performers, was doing the concert finale number (Last Dance). Now I feel goosebumps remembering that he gave the cue "Last dance" for everybody to sing and dance till the end of that number. It was indeed his last dance.

Wikipedia: The Bohol National High School was renamed Dr. Cecilio Putong High School by virtue of a law sponsored by then Congressman Isidro Zarraga, Jr. amid a controversy where many Boholanos were not aware of the accomplishments of Dr. Putong, the poor Boholano who, though orphaned at an early age, succeeded in obtaining a good education with the help of his American mentors who recognized his intellectual ability and strong determination to rise above his humble beginnings. Dr. Putong held such position in 1952-53, during President Elpidio Quirino's term.

Of course, Bohol High is Bohol High . . . pride of the province.

Putong High ? . . . Putong Hall na lang . .

It is a popular belief (pero more of hungihong) nga magpasubli si Erico sa iyang distrito tungod kay iyang himoong dakbayan ang iyang lungsod (Ubay).  Abi man gani sa kadaghanan nga magpapili siya pagka mayor aron mamahimong first city mayor sa Ubay. But all these are chismis ra.

Roberto Cajes - representative, second district of Bohol
Ang iyang kinamagulangang anak babaye nga si Frances Bobbith kanhi president sa Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation (her political career is on hold, may ambisyon pa kini nga mamolitika)

Giingnan ba lamang ko nga: "Unsa man intawoy among makita diha sa Bohol, Brod, uy . . . tarsier ug kalamay?" At the end of the tour, giingnan siya sa iyang bana: "Honey, why did you not tell me about Bohol? This is a much more beautiful place than your home province!"  Nakabawos ko, ha ha ha !!! Divorced na sila karon, kay nakakita man og much more beautiful Filipina. Boholana tingali, he he he.

Dihay mga turistang taga Polomolok, Cotabato (where Dole has its plantations), ako'y nag guide nila paingon sa isla sa Cabilao (upon request of a friend). Unya kay molabay pa man sa Sandingan island (via a causeway) kansang batoon kaayong mga bukid gipangtamnan og cassava ug mais, nagsigi sila'g pangatawa kay grabe kuno ang Bol-anon, tamnan hasta bato. We're praying for miracles, matud pa  nila. I told them, exercise ra ang farming sa mga tigulang sa Bohol. For how could proceeds of such marginal agriculture build beautiful houses on the other side of the road. Sukad niadto, all praise na sila sa Bol-anon, at least during the time nga ako ang ilang guide.

Usually mga tables and furniture designs and akong natabang nila.

The first week sa among pagka roomates, giingnan ba lamang ko kon ok ba kuno ko moIninglis. Embarrassing kaayo. Later they learned that I worked as executive assitant of a senator. Tameme sila. Usahay, makapanghambog man gud ta, bisag dili nature nato, kon naay magbiaybiay nato nga walay kapasikaran.

Naka experience sab ko anang gibiaybiay ming mga Bol-anon sa first term namo as among the more than 250 full academic scholars sa usa ka state college. After sa first semester, 12 na lang ang nahibilin, ug 6 ka buok ming mga Bol-anon. Sweet revenge jud sa mga nagpakahilum lang.

Question and Answer / Re: tirong, kinsay nakakita?
December 25, 2009, 02:08:28 AM
Nanukad kini sila sa mga isla sa Southern Mindanao, and are erroneourly referred to in history books as Moro bandits. Daghan ni sila nga grupo. Here's an intro on the play ANG TAWAG SA BANTAYAN by Reigh P. Monreal which was staged last year during the relaunching of the Punta Cruz Watch Tower as part of Bohol's heritage tour destination:
