You're welcome, Julai.

She's indeed a  brave marine, and most of all, a gentle mother.
Her children are lucky to have mother like her, where the cubs come before the persona.

The story that touched me was a female American marine who was involved in the battle for Faluja, where she saw a young Iraqi Child in the middle of the crossfire. She ran to the child, took her helmet and placed the helmet on the child while holding and caressing the child till support group came to retrieve the child.

Even in the midst of combat, the woman's motherly nature shines through.

Its not even her child, but she took charge and claimed it as her own. Risking her life for a baby she never even knew.

The female marine that saved the child. Taken before she rescued the child.

Im just sharing with all my Valencianons in here the beauty and warmth that we experienced yesterday. The Image of the Blessed Santo Nino was taken to Tito Jan-Jan Palaca's and will be held for a week. There is another gathering on the 19th of January. I won't be able to make it, so we're visiting on Monday before we leave for college.

I know my Titas and Titos that were at Feast Day Celebration visit Tubag Bohol and this is my tribute for them. And for our dear Hometown of Valencia, Bohol.

God Bless Everyone!

Today, January 12, 2008 we celebrated the 8th day of the novena and dedication of the Blessed Divine Infant, the Sacred Santo Nino de Cebu. The celebration was held at our house here in New Jersey, where many of my mother's friends and family (from Valencia, Garcia Hernandez, and Davao, Bohol etc. came to visit and celebrate with us the Glory of the Blessed Child Jesus).

I took some pictures of the event and some videos.

This is our own Valencia-American EB here in New Jersey.

God Bless all of the hard working and faithful Valencian-ons and all who call for the Guidance and Help of the Blessed Santo Nino De Cebu, who is God Eternal. Maayong Gabii Everyone!

Pedophiles need to be skinned alive.

It is a shame that there are old men that come to the Philippines for sexual purposes. These kinds of people are truly wolves. They prey on the needy and desperate, and the sad thing is that there are many that will give in to their wishes.

Does the RP have strict anti-pedophile laws?

Question and Answer / Reply: Hillary or Obama???
January 12, 2008, 03:32:53 PM
I've had conversations with some of my friends who are against Hillary, and pro Ron Paul, McCain. Many men still are intimidated by having a woman-President. Many argue that the United States 'cannot' have a woman president due to the shear political power of the United States and the need to portray the Superpower as a forceful, willful and masculine entity; one that does not back down to any threat. Many think and protest that having a woman president of the Leader of the Free World would illustrate the United States as a weak country. Easily intimidated.

What say you?

Ah interesting replies. I liked your reasonings, Brownman. ;)

As for me, it would be a hard decision. I don't know.

Immortality is very tempting. Though I would loose all my loved ones; I would be able to dedicate more time to advance medical science, and observe the progress and evolution of medical science through the eons. To observe the possible human colonization of our system and/or other systems in our galaxy or beyond.

Also, as an immortal, i would be able to link the new world of humanity with the old. A living, breathing, history book, and one that can personally attest, and not be subject to objective interpretation; as what history vis-a-vis books depends on.

I dont know; i feel split in this question, myself. This offer would be a tempting one. Immortality, many can only dream of it.

A professor is giving the first year medical students their first lecture on autopsies, and decides to give them a few basics before starting. "You must be capable of two things to do an autopsy. The first thing is that you must have no sense of fear." At this point, the lecturer sticks his finger into the dead man's anus, and then licks it.

He asks all the students to do the same thing with the corpses in front of them. After a couple of minutes silence, they follow suit.

"The second thing is that you must have an acute sense of observation: I stuck my middle finger into the corpse's anus, but I licked my index.

The average salary of a Registered Nurse here in the United States can range anywhere between $70,000- $100,000+

As of right now, the United States is in need of at least 2 million nurses.

There is no immediate 'decrease' in the need of medical professionals (nursing, medicine, pt, pharmacy).

In the old times, didn't people marry their own siblings?

Yes, the ancient Egyptians would intermarry in order to preserve the 'purity' of the Divinity of Pharaoh's progeny. It was popular to breed with cousins, and siblings. Even in ancient Rome, it was rather popular to marry a cousin or even a sister; the Emperor Nero himself had sexual relations with his own mother and sister. Genetically, breeding with relatives are counter-productive; leading to an increase of homozygous genes; leading to the same allele at the same locus on both members of a chromosome pair and thus creating genetic deleterious defects. It manifests in neurological problems, cardiac and respiratory problems, and manifestation of impotence in male and female offsprings.

The 'purity' that was conceived in incestuous relationships within ancient kingdoms was in all-reality a self-indulged suicide on the said royal dynasty's line. Due to such practices, weak and incompetent rulers were made. Usurping power from an ambitious 'other' was the usual case. As in the case of the end of the old Caeserian line in Rome after the death of Claudius and Nero; and after the death of Rameses II the Great of Egypt, etc.

Bible Study / Internalizing the Proverbs

Please share your favorite proverbs, particular excerpts, and share with us the graces that you have found in reading the Proverbs.

I personally like to take the time to read the book of Proverbs at least once a week. Its words soothes the heart, and directs the just. May it be a blessing and a light to you. As it is to me and many others in here.

Blessings to all.

Bible Study / Beautiful Psalms
January 12, 2008, 09:37:47 AM
Psalm 50

The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

General Topic / Response to Barter Question
January 12, 2008, 09:17:21 AM
In dealing with the barter system; one has to understand four principle factors. Counterpurchase, Compensation Arrangement, Offset and Debt-For-Nature Swap.

In counterpurchase, the participant parties sign two separate contracts that specify the goods and services to be exchanged. In this way one transaction can go forward even though the second transaction needs time. Whereas in Compensation Arrangement, One party agrees to supply technology or equipment that enables the other party to produce goods with which the price of the supplied products or technology is repaid. Offset arrangements are designed to offset the negative effects of large purchases from abroad on the current account of  a country. Ex: a country buying an air-place may demand that parts and components be acquired in the local economy. Debt-For-Nature Swaps are when firms or entities buy what are otherwise considered to be nonperforming loans at substantial discounts and return the debt to the country in exchange for the preservation of natural resources.

The Cons

1. Transactions are purely bilateral in nature and are not competitive since they squeeze out competition from a third market or specify the export market.

2. Countertrade is a second-best solution

3. Concerns regarding the valuation of countertrade transactions and with ensuring that appropriate tax payments are made.

4. “Instead of there being a double coincidence of wants, there is likely to be a want of coincidence.”

5. The ability of countries and their industries to adjust structurally to more efficient production may be restricted.

6. The 'less productive' nation states would become inherently enslaved to the 'more productive' states.

7. Escalations of regional, border, and intercontinental wars would erupt for access to key precious resources in the inter-continental barter/countertrade system.

Bolivian government representatives will meet with breakaway governors next week in a bid to avert a political split that threatens to tear the Andean country in half.

Bolivia's president, Evo Morales, who held talks with provincial governors this week, has antagonized opponents in the gas-rich east with plans for a new constitution that would give more power to the indigenous population, who form a sizeable majority elsewhere in the country.

Morales, who became Bolivia's first indigenous president when he was elected in 2005, has vowed to redistribute the wealth from Bolivia's natural gas fields -- the second largest reserves in South America -- for the benefit of the whole population and has nationalized much of the country's oil and gas industry.

But his plans have been consistently opposed in eastern regions, based around the city of Santa Cruz where many multinational energy companies still operating in Bolivia are based and where most of the population trace their ancestry to Spain.

Those grievances came to a head last month when the governors of four provinces -- Santa Cruz, Tarija, Beni and Pando -- declared autonomy from the central government in the capital, La Paz, after Morales' allies in the National Assembly approved plans for a controversial new consitution.

The constitution, which has still to be endorsed by voters, would impose heavier taxes on the four breakaway states, as well as overturning a two-term presidential limit, allowing Morales to run for president indefinitely.

Governors in eastern Bolivia opposed the proposed constitution because it was passed without the presence of opposition legislators.

The political standoff has also provoked protests and violence in cities across the notoriously volatile country.

At least three people were reported killed during opposition protests in the central city of Sucre, where a special assembly has been drafting the new constitution.

Last month Morales vowed to defend the new constitution and lashed out at what he called the racist politics of Bolivia's elite as he addressed thousands of supporters in La Paz.

"They must give back the money they took from us," he told a cheering crowd. "We will retroactively investigate all the big fortunes, and the corrupt are now trembling with fear."

Morales also cautioned those who he said wanted a "a division, a coup d'etat," The Associated Press reported. "We won't permit Bolivia to be divided," he warned.

Japan's ruling coalition forced a bill through parliament Friday to revive a U.S.-backed anti-terror mission in the Indian Ocean, clearing the way for Japanese ships to return to the region after a months-long absence.

Following the vote, Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba ordered ships to prepare for dispatch. The fleet should leave port in two to three weeks and resume operations in five to six weeks, the ministry said.

Japan had refueled ships since 2001 in support of U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan, but was forced to abandon the mission in November when the resurgent opposition blocked an extension.

The measure enacted Friday will limit Japanese ships to refueling boats not directly involved in hostilities in Afghanistan, a restriction aimed at winning over a public wary of violating the spirit of the country's pacifist constitution.

The United States had lobbied hard for the mission, and U.S. Ambassador Thomas Schieffer made a rare public foray into domestic politics on the issue by meeting with lawmakers to urge their support.

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's government was deeply embarrassed by having to withdraw the mission in November, a step that cast doubt on how far Tokyo can back Washington in its global war on terrorist groups.

The lower house vote, which approved the measure 340 versus 133, followed the upper house's rejection of the bill earlier in the day. Under a Japanese law last used in 1951, the upper house can be overruled by a two-thirds vote in the lower chamber.

Schieffer cheered the passage on Friday.

"Terrorism is the bane of our time," he said in a statement. "By passing this legislation, Japan has demonstrated its willingness to stand with those who are trying to create a safer, more tolerant world."

Fukuda and other ruling party lawmakers have argued that the mission was needed to fulfill Japan's obligations in the global war against terrorism and give the country a world role commensurate with its economic clout.

"It has been of great detriment to Japan that this mission, which addresses international needs and is in our national interest, has been suspended," ruling party lawmaker Akio Sato told parliament ahead of the vote.

"Japan must join the world in the fight against terrorism," Sato said.

But the opposition accused the ruling camp of forcing its will on the people.

"This is a clear abuse of power," said Yoshito Sengoku, a lawmaker of the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan. "The government will now surely lose the trust of the people."

Japan's naval mission in the region over the past six years provided logistical support to forces involved in the war in Afghanistan. It mainly supplied some 132 million gallons of fuel to coalition warships, including from the U.S., Britain and Pakistan, according to the Japanese government.

Public opinion polls show Japanese are gradually coming to accept a greater role for their troops abroad -- as long as it does not involve combat.

President Bush arrived Friday at the first of five Arab nations on his Mideast mission to seek support for an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

But U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned not to expect an outpouring of public support from those countries for the president's initiative.

"There isn't going to be a blinding flash in any of this -- not on this trip, not on the next trip," Rice told reporters aboard Air Force One, as they traveled to Kuwait.

"But this is a process that's moving forward," she said, noting the long-standing disagreements between the two sides.

"There will be a period of time, undoubtedly, in which the two sides continue to be very far apart," she said. "But over time they'll move together."

She added, "So much has already happened in this process that I think there is reason to be hopeful."

Bush's eight-day trip to the region -- his first as president -- is centered on the ambitious task of sealing a long-stalled peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians.

For the past three days in Israel and the West Bank, Bush met with top Israeli and Palestinian leaders. He called on Israel to pull out of the territories it has occupied since 1967, and on Palestinian leaders to dismantle "terrorist infrastructures." Bush challenged both sides to begin peace talks immediately.

Bush is looking for Arab support as negotiations move forward, specifically asking for those nations to "reach out to Israel." It is an appeal Bush has said he will look to emphasize during his visits to Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Upon Bush's arrival in Kuwait City, children presented him with flowers along a red carpet trimmed with gold.

Bush is scheduled to visit the palace of Sheik Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, leader of the country that his father, President George H.W. Bush, helped free from Iraqi occupation in 1991's Persian Gulf War.

Used as a base for U.S. forces, Kuwait will host Bush as he meets with Iraq war commander Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. troops.

Bush also is scheduled to join a roundtable discussion with Kuwaiti women on democracy and development.

Israeli President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert bid farewell to Bush Friday at Ben Gurion Airport in a red-carpet ceremony, where Bush accepted Israel's invitation to return in May.

On that visit, he will check on peace negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians and celebrate Israel's 60th anniversary, White House officials said.

The president spent his final day in the Holy Land visiting Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, where he laid a wreath for millions of Jews killed by Nazi Germany during World War II.

Memorial chairman, Avner Shalev told The Associated Press: "Twice, I saw tears well up in his eyes."

According to AP, Shalev also described how Bush said Allied forces made a mistake in not attacking the Auschwitz death camp, where from 1.1 million to 1.5 million people were killed.

"We should have bombed it," he said, according to Shalev and reported by AP.

Wearing a yarmulke, Bush placed a red-white-and-blue wreath on a stone slab that covers ashes of Holocaust victims, according to AP. Bush then lit a memorial torch.

The president also flew via Marine One on Friday to Galilee, where he visited several biblical sites, including Capernaum, and Mount of the Beatitudes.

A major challenge for Bush's mission has been focusing the trip on Israeli-Palestinian peace while other issues -- Iran, Pakistan, Iraq and soaring oil prices  dominate headlines and serve as reminders of the region's instability.

World Daily News / China blogger beaten to death
January 12, 2008, 09:00:43 AM
Authorities have fired an official in central China after city inspectors beat to death a man who filmed their confrontation with villagers, China's Xinhua news agency reports.

The killing has sparked outrage in China, with thousands expressing outrage in Chinese Internet chat rooms, often the only outlet for public criticism of the government.

The incident has also alarmed advocates of press freedom, who say municipal authorities had no right to attack a man for simply filming them.

Police have detained 24 municipal inspectors and are investigating more than 100 in the death of Wei Wenhua, a 41-year-old construction company executive, Xinhua reported on Friday.

The swift action by officials reflects concerns that the incident could spark larger protests against authorities, whose heavy-handed approach often arouses resentment.

On Monday Wei happened on a confrontation in the central Chinese province of Hubei between city inspectors and villagers protesting over the dumping of waste near their homes.

A scuffle developed when residents tried to prevent trucks from unloading the rubbish, Xinhua said.

When Wei took out his cell phone to record the protest, more than 50 municipal inspectors turned on him, attacking him for five minutes, Xinhua said. Wei was dead on arrival at a Tianmen hospital, the report said.

Qi Zhengjun, chief of the urban administration bureau in the city of Tianmen, lost his job over the incident, Xinhua reported Friday.

The beating was condemned online. "It's no longer news that urban administrators enforce the law with violence," said an editorial on the news Web site Northeast News, according to The Associated Press.

"But now someone has been beaten to death on site. It has brought us not surprise, but unspeakable anger."

Chen Yizhong, a columnist on Xinhua's Web site, asked why violence by city inspectors is allowed to continue. "Cities need administration, but urban administrators need to be governed by law first," he wrote.

An international press freedom group, Reporters Without Borders, protested the killing.

"Wei is the first 'citizen journalist' to die in China because of what he was trying to film," the group said in a statement.

"He was beaten to death for doing something which is becoming more and more common and which was a way to expose law-enforcement officers who keep on overstepping their limits."

World Daily News / Suharto suffers 'alarming' decline
January 12, 2008, 08:59:47 AM
Suharto suffered an "alarming" multi-organ failure and was placed on a ventilator Friday, doctors said, as family members rushed to the former Indonesian dictator's bedside.

Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said she was not optimistic, telling El-Shinta radio the ventilator was a "last attempt" by doctors to keep him alive.

"I don't think it will help," she said.

The 86-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition one week ago with anemia and a low heart rate. He initially responded well to a blood transfusion and kidney dialysis.

His condition has fluctuated almost daily, but Friday's drop was the most dramatic.

Marjo Subiandono, the chief presidential doctor, said Suharto suffered multi-organ failure and was placed on a ventilator after his breathing became fast and shallow. Earlier, doctors said there were signs of infection in his lungs.

"His condition is deteriorating," said Ismoyo, a cardiologist, who was among those describing Suharto's state as "alarming."

"It's worse than it was this morning," Ismoyo said.

Patients have been cleared from part of Pertamina Hospital to make way for Suharto, whose regime was widely regarded as one of the most ruthless of the 20th century with up to a million of his political opponents allegedly killed or imprisoned.

Several nearby rooms were packed with family members and close friends, some praying and chanting verses from the Quran.

Suharto was ousted in 1998 amid massive student protests and nationwide riots, opening the way for democracy in this predominantly Muslim nation of 235 million people.

The retired five-star general withdrew from public life, venturing from his comfortable villa on a leafy lane in the capital only to attend family functions or for medical emergencies.

A series of strokes in recent years have left Suharto with permanent brain damage and impaired speech -- keeping him from facing trial.

He has been accused of overseeing a purge of more than a half-million opponents soon after seizing power in a 1965 coup. Hundreds of thousands more were killed or imprisoned in the decades that followed -- crimes that were left unpunished.

Transparency International said Suharto and his family also amassed billions of dollars in Indonesia's state funds -- an allegation he has denied.

Victims and relatives of those who died gathered outside the hospital Friday, some carrying banners that said "Bring Suharto to Justice!"

"His illness should give momentum to the human rights commission, legislators, the president and the attorney general to investigate all the abuses for which he was responsible," said Sumarsih, whose daughter Wawan, was killed by troops during a 1998 anti-Suharto protest. Like many Indonesians, she has only one name.

"He is sick, and people can forgive him for humanitarian reasons if they want to, but they should not forget our grief."

Effendi Saleh, 68, agreed.

He said he was imprisoned without trial from 1969 until 1979 after being accused of having ties to the Communist party, a charge he denied. He was employed by Unilever Indonesia at the time, and acknowledged only that he had been a labor activist.

"I'm sorry Suharto is sick, but I can't forgive him," said Saleh. "I suffered for many, many years. Someone has to be held accountable."

Suharto has received a steady stream of visits by high-profile officials in the last week, including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono -- now in Malaysia -- Cabinet ministers and Muslim clerics, a sign of his continuing influence over the ruling elite.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla showed up at the hospital late Friday after receiving word about Suharto's deteriorating health. Try Sutrisno, who served as vice president under Suharto, also came.

Doctors said earlier Suharto would need a second pacemaker -- he suffered low-level cardiac failure after muscles in one section of his heart stopped working -- but repeated Friday that the procedure could not be performed until his condition stabilized. He remained hooked to a kidney dialysis machine.

Opposition leader and human rights activist Aung San Suu Kyi was taken from her home, where she is under house arrest, for a meeting with a government official on Friday, witnesses said.

Suu Kyi is believed to have met with Labor Minister Aung Kyi, who is also serving as the minister of relations, a position the junta created in early October to be a liaison between government and Suu Kyi. It would be their fourth meeting, if true.

The liaison position was created after a meeting between Ibrahim Gambari, the U.N. special envoy to Myanmar, and military junta leaders.

Aung Kyi -- viewed as a moderate -- was appointed amid international pressure following September's bloody crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrations.

One of the position's goals is to help resolve disputes arising from clashes between pro-democracy demonstrators and government security forces that are believed to killed more than 100 people, including 40 Buddhist monks.

Myanmar's military junta has admitted to detaining more than 2,900 people during its crackdown on the protesters.

The peaceful protests, led by monks, were sparked by a huge fuel price increase imposed by the military government, and quickly escalated.

Video smuggled out of the country showed unarmed protesters being beaten by the military regime's security forces, and one man -- believed to be a Japanese journalist -- was shot and killed at close range.

Suu Kyi left her home around 1 p.m., was taken to a government state guest house, where previous meetings have been held and returned about an hour later.

The detained Nobel Peace Prize winner has been under house arrest from 1989 to 1995, from 2000 to 2002, and from May 2003 until now.

She has been regarded as the voice of democracy in the nation since 1989, when her National League for Democracy won the country's first free multi-party elections.

World Daily News / Reply: The Crying Issue
January 12, 2008, 08:57:47 AM
I personally was touched by her crying. Its very personal to see an intimidating and vibrant political figure such as Hillary Clinton shed tears. I personally thought the woman never cried, only due to her strong dogged-willed personality as a Senator of New York and as the former First Lady of the United States.

Tears shed some light of 'human-ness' to this political figure.

May the best one win.

Hi folks...Mackey asked me to put this here so since Lorenzo mentioned it in this topic according to the search engine, here is a link to the trailer to "Prince Caspian", the next movie in the Narnia series due out on May 16th.

The girl playing Lucy, Georgie Henley, also plays the young Jane Eyre in the latest BBC production, where I must admit to being infatuated with Ruth Wilson. This is a great show which should not be missed playing on you local BBC or PBS channel. The DVD will be released here in the US on Jan 18th if you miss it or one of the episodes on TV...joey

That will be a great movie! I was a big fan of the Witch, Lion and the Wardrobe cartoon movie back in the 80s/early 90s. When Narnia came out couple of years ago, it was as if my childhood memories came back again. I loved the book, the movie, for the most part, stayed in line with the theme of the book.

Did you watch Bridge to Terabithia? Its another great book. The life morals in these movies are great, bar none.

Chess clock? sus para hardcore chess players pood na, 'te. Your Tito must be really good to want one, lol.
I have an interesting anecdote that will always remind me to never underestimate anyone. Last semester, I played a game of chess with a girl I took out on a date, and as we came back from the movies, i took her to my place to get to know each other. She wanted to play ToD, but i decided a better game to play was chess. (In hindsight, i dont know why i did that, LOL, sigoro i wanted to conquor her lang in the game ;) ). She told me she never played it, so i felt confident-naturally-what man doesn't? haha. But when we started to play, I realized she fibbed me, i risked everything to use a King's  gambit to allow my offense to form, but i realized that she was a good player--then she admitted that she did play chess multiple times kono. As I  was loosing my pieces, and eventually lost the game, she kept on smiling which pounded me uy! Hahaha
We of course got to know each other more afterwards. Pero the moral of the story is never underestimate a woman. You just might not know how good she really is ;)

Inspiration & Hope / When Prayer is Difficult
January 11, 2008, 10:49:54 PM
Everyone has days when prayer seems difficult. There are times when we seem unable to concentrate when distractions continually draw the mind away from our intention. The pressure of a particular worry, anxiety about the future, the need for a difficult decision, can interfere with a genuine desire to pray. At such times the deep need to come close to God for peace and help can in fact create tension which makes the attainment harder. If we are honest, we must admit that there are times when the desire is simply not there and we would rather be doing something else.

That is the time to relax and not feel guilty. We are coming in prayer to a loving Father, not to a tyrant who demands a period of homage or to a troublesome old relative. We need not get too hung up about 'spiritual dryness' or 'the dark night of the soul'; such longer alienation can be a reality of an intense spiritual life but for most of us the bad times are temporary and have specific causes.

What is true for an individual may also be true for a group which may have the same difficulties. There may be the burden of a big problem that all are carrying, or trouble which afflicts one or more of the members and involves the rest, or unresolved tensions within the group.

Whether the block is individual or collective it is often helpful to keep commitment to the period of prayer. The discipline of prayer is helpful not because God demands it arbitrarily but because we need it. The habit is strengthened by each observance and weakened by each refusal. Therefore try to use the time set aside and not expect it always to be filled with exciting personal experiences.

Remember the words of Scripture can speak for us when our own prayer will not come.

Staying with the problem can be valuable and help us to hold on to the assurance that it will not go on for ever. Sometimes we need to know that God is not remote from our pain but is alongside us in it and feels it too! We also need to give ourselves permission to opt out if we don't feel up to tackling it. There might be occasions when the best thing to do is just stop and have a chat which relieves all the striving and tension. It is not a competition but a relationship â€" so relax. Sometimes it is better to go and do something else!

The sweet praises of the Most High, will rise like incense to His Mountain. Sweet are We to HIM.

Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. A large quantity of incense was given to him to offer with all the prayers of the saints on the golden altar that stood in front of the throne; and so from the angel's hand the smoke of the incense went up in the presence of God and with it the prayers of all the saints.'

That is true. In the end, the final Judge is the Lord God The Most High, who is seated atop the Mountain of 12 stars, and before him layeth the Powers, the Cherubim, the Seraphim, and all the Hosts of Heaven. He is the final judge, the final redeemer, not men.

Ang gitoo ani is to live your life according to morality, to your christian teachings, if you are not a christian, then live your life with compassion to others. Live with Love. For the Lord God IS Love.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

This is very unfortunate.

There is also one incident that a patient wake up in the middle of the operation. The patient could not move, but could feel the sharp pain while the doctor sliced her stomach and she can feel while doctors emptied her intrails.

I think there is a movie made recently based on this incident. I think similar story was also featured in the TV series Grey's Anatomy.

I think Lorenzo could explain this more.

Yes, the movie you're referring to is Awake starring Jessica Alba. The movie draws conclusion with the reports by physicians and surgeons of patients experiencing Anesthesia Awareness; about 1% of Americans that undergo surgery and given some kind of anesthesia experience the physical side effects of the analgesic, stiffness, imobility, yet their nervous system, particularly in the central and peripheral nervous system are not fully inhibited, therefore, when the surgery begins, patients literally feel every cut and movement. Some patients -- including people getting heart surgery, emergency surgery, or C-sections -- may be more likely to experience anesthesia awareness. That's because doctors may need to use a lighter dose of anesthetic to keep the patient (or baby, in the case of C-section) stable.

Patients may remember procedures that involve local anesthesia, but that's not anesthesia awareness.

The use of brain function monitors during surgery can cut the chance of a patient experiencing anesthesia awareness, according to Bloom, Guidry, and colleagues. But the doctors warn that those devices don't rule out all possibility of anesthesia awareness. They describe a fine line between too little anesthesia, which may lead to anesthesia awareness, and too much anesthesia, which may cause side effects including nausea and vomiting after surgery.
About 21,000 Americans experience Anesthesia Awareness every year.

Mr. Ferniz,

If you are looking to read more into the medical phenomenon of AA (Anesthesia Awareness), you can go onto The New England Journal of Medicine, the leading medical forum here in the United States and in the West. There are articles on this subject matter. Here's the Link, Mr. Ferniz. Enjoy.

Vendetta?  It's not my language lorenzo. But I am just telling here the true story of priscilla. If you are reading her column in a local newspaper in Bohol, she sounds a bitch saying nasty things on Bohol and its people. How you will know when in fact, I believe, you are not reading it online? I'm not judgmental, but you see how this woman is spreading malicious stories that she is maltreated by her editor Fred Amora. And she writes as a hubby because she has no intention to grab the salary for the Boholanos. See, how stupid she is?

I think TubagbOhol members should know that irrational this woman is.

If she claimed that they were hardly treated by the Manila media, it's a fallacy: THE TRUTH IS SHE IS BANNED TO COVER PRESIDENTIAL VISITS BECAUSE OF HER BEHAVIOR. SHE HAS NO RESPECT OF AUTHORITY.

THE MARO, WHICH IS ASSIGNED TO GIVE ACCREDITATION TO LOCAL MEDIA BANNED HER BECAUSE FOR 3 TIMES SHE BEHAVED UNPROFESSIONALLY AS A MEDIAWOMAN.

WELL, SHE IS NOT REALLY A MEDIAWOMAN, IT JUST HAPPENED THAT SHE IS AN AMERICAN AND SHE KNOWS HOW TO SPEAK. BUT IF YOU READ HER COLUMN, IT IS MORE THAN DIRT. SHE SHOULD TAKE UP MASCCOM.

HOW PITY.

A Filipino nurse in Great Britain died hours after giving birth in May 2004 when an anaesthetic was fed into her arm instead of her back, online reports revealed Tuesday.

An inquest in Great Britain this month showed that theater nurse Mayra Cabrera, 30, suffered a heart attack last May 11, 2004 when an epidural anaesthetic was mistakenly put into her arm.

Cabrera was giving birth to her baby, Zachary, at the Great Western hospital in Swindon Wiltshire when hospital staff injected her with Bupivacaine. The baby survived but Cabrera died as a result of the wrong use of the powerful anaesthetic.

The inquest disclosed that the despite the efforts of doctors, they were unable to revive her.

Cabrera's husband, Arnel, was forced to return to the Philippines because his work visa depended on his wife having work. The couple worked at the hospital where she died.

Arnel said doctors told him that his wife died of an embolism during childbirth, which is a very rare occurrence. He said he was only informed of the real reason for his wife's death one year later.

Wiltshire coroner David Masters told the jury in Trowbridge that there had been two other deaths at hospitals in the UK in the last decade caused by the epidural drug Bupivacaine being administered intravenously. Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust has admitted responsibility for the death of the Filipino nurse.

www.abs-cbnnews.com

Just as what the experienced nurses in here have already reiterated, this case is an example of the sad and unfortunate. Negligence on the part of the Obstetrics staff in accidentally placing the strong anesthetic in the wrong place. It is a shame that she died, but the important thing is that the child was saved, hoping of course there is no long-term neurological damage to the child vis-a-vis the use of the strong anesthetic. The hospital should be held responsible. I think the husband and the family of the victim have a case. They should have demanded reparations for the negligence; because of that a life was lost.

I dont know. Perhaps the Obstetrics floor was filled with patients; perhaps there wasn't enough nurses; perhaps the physician in charge was inexperienced etc. There are many factors that culminated to the wrong insertion.

All they can do now is assist in the healing process. Monetary grant would help in the process.

Of course. I am totally against this 'blame game', which always seems to be a pragmatic and statist condition when regarding the situation in Bohol. I'm tired of it. The fact is, as evidence and witnesses declares, the blame is on the truck driver, Mr. Peter Blanco, who is a worker of the Municipal government. By that right, it is in the peripheral responsibility of the municipal government to have done something after the immediate pronunciation of Zachary's death.

The right thing to do would have been to offer condolences to the bereaved family, and not staying quiet, as if that would help.

We, members of Bohol and foreign based Boholanos, only know about this because of Mike posting it here on Tubag Bohol and Precious writing about it in the chronicle. I would like to give my thanks to them both to sharing the news with us here. Either than that, the bulk of us, who are stationed and living abroad, would have never known of the said situation.

It is always EASIER for us to know vis-a-vis a hindsight view. Its always easy for us to say "oh we should have done this, done that." In all reality, one cannot simply go back in time to remediate a said error. Be responsible, take responsibility when it is due. People will respect you more that way. Despite the hardships that fall your way.

It is clear who is at fault in this case. That is still not going to bring Zachary back to life, who was only 24 years old, bata pa na (he is 2 years older than I am).

I give my sincere condolences to the family, and to Zach himself.
One thing is clear. He loved Bohol. Bless him for that.

it was the american's fault why he died. it wasn't the fault of the dumtruck's driver. it's already a filipino culture that when an american died in the philippines though his/her fault, we always blame the poor filipino.

You can't say that. The fact that there was negligence on the municipal government's part in failing to send apologies for the death of Zach, and the coherent lack of action done on the said situation. The fact that it took couple of weeks for action to have been done? It is unfair and rather insensitive with regards to the family of the victim, all back in the United States.

Please be sensitive about this matter pood.
