Lin, what do you mean by "those people back home who has nothing to gain nothing to loose"?  I think our people has to realize that they are the beneficiary of a good governance.  There's an urgent need to inculcate to the minds of our people that they have to be more smarter in choosing their leaders.  They should stop taking the "insults" (without them knowing it) by accepting money from these candidates.  Yeah, I always believe these candidates buying votes are insulting the the voting public.  It surely isn't generosity.  It's a form of corruption that these candidates are involving the people!  This got to stop jud.

'te, I completely agree with you. In order for this wretched phenomenon to cease, it will take proper action from the administration and the legislative body to place sanctions or arrest those who are propagating the act of vote buying. If no one is punished for these crimes, it will only continue and become part of the Filipino political culture. Its disgusting to think about it, but that is the only way it will stop. It has to begin form the bottom up, as well as cooperation from the heads of government.

One thing for sure, its going to take someone who has guts to quarrel with the 'powers that bee' in government, to challenge the so called 'status quo en politicum'

Who will it be? And when?

8. Whatever: Is a woman’s way of saying *&^% YOU!

9. Don’t worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking “What’s wrong?” For the woman’s response, refer to #3.

I know these two words very well. But I  never knew the signs.

I picked moral values because everything else in the list is a manifestation of moral values. If one has very strong conservative moral values, christian morality in particular, honesty, kindness, mercifulness etc will follow suit. If one lacks moral values, so to will the same variables manifest the correlation of that person's innate morality.

What attracts me the most is a person's morality. If it is similar to that of my own, it is a plus. I will admit, I am quite traditional and conservative in the true sense of the word. Simple ra ko, sometimes I have urges to get things, pero all in all, I follow a daily routine. Not too keen on 'drama-drama', sa ahong buhay diri, i like to keep a low profile jud. I think it is my faith, alone, that helps my moral values. Pero that is just my own personal opinion. So I am still in search of finding someone with similar qualities pood.

In tribute to one of the great leaders in Asia, and in our own times, the man that was Ir. Suharto. No doubt, one of the many movers and shakers of the region. The man that was a contemporary of our very own Ferdinand E. Marcos, and so with his death, ends the epoch of the Asian Dictators.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=z_RbTcg7hgM

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono led the ceremony, which began just before noon at
the Suharto family mausoleum near the city of Solo, Suharto's hometown, some 400km east of the capital.

Although he oversaw some of the worst bloodshed of the 20th century, Suharto is credited with developing Indonesia's economy and was buried with the highest state honours.

After a long reading of Suharto's military accomplishments, a shot was fired in his honour and Yudhoyono offered a salute.

"We offer his body to the motherland," Yudhoyono said. "His service is an example to us."

Islamic prayers were said and as his body was lowered, mourners tossed flower petals into his grave. A military band played a dirge.

Tens of thousands of mourners lined the streets of Solo to watch the motorcade carry Suharto's body to the mausoleum, many of them sobbing and calling the name of the man whose brutal rule brought stability to Indonesia.

'A great man'

Many waved Indonesian flags and threw flowers at his hearse.

"He was a great man," said Sumartini, a 65-year-old woman who, like many Indonesians, goes by just one name. "His death touched us deeply."

Suharto's body was flown to Solo on Monday morning after a brief ceremony at his Jakarta home, where a string of the country's political elite visited Suharto's family in a sign of his lingering importance.

"May god bless his soul and forgive his mistakes and sins," said Agung Laksono, the speaker of Indonesia's house of representatives.

Faithfully

by Journey
[mp3tube]78125d44db5fa27ee83fc8bd564a4e48[/mp3tube]

Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
Youre on my mind
Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sendin all my love
Along the wire

They say that the road
Aint no place to start a family
Right down the line
Its been you and me
And lovin a music man
Aint always what its supposed to be
Oh girl you stand by me
Im forever yours...faithfully

Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile
Through space and time
Always another show
Wondering where I am
Lost without you

And being apart aint easy
On this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy
Of rediscovering you
Oh girl, you stand by me
Im forever yours...faithfully

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Faithfully, Im still yours
Im forever yours
Ever yours...faithfully

Wicked Game

by Paulo Ricardo
[mp3tube]ef62d47092472579fd72efdfc6b5a2a2[/mp3tube]

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do.
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you.
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you.

No, I don't want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This world is only gonna break your heart)

What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you.
What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you and,

I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you.

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do.
I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you.
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you,

No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I... (This world is only gonna break your heart)
(This world is only gonna break your heart)

Nobody loves no one.

Jokes and Humor / The Proctologist
January 31, 2008, 06:51:54 AM
Of all the professions we fear, one stands out.  No, it's not
"mortician;" by then it's too late.  This is a word that makes a
certain part of our anatomy pucker in anticipation.  Yes, the word is
"proctologist;" the dreaded p-word!  The mere mention of the word
strikes terror deep inside most of us.  9 1/2 of every 10 adults
would prefer a root canal over a visit to Dr. Finger.  (Source: I
Made It Up Survey)  The other half is into that sort of thing.

Proctologist; from the Greek meaning "pain in the ass."  Did you
ever wonder who was the first proctologist?  My research shows it was
Dr. Ben Dover, who was fed up with mainstream medicine and wanted to
boldly go where no one had gone before, "I think I'll devote my life
to making people as uncomfortable as possible   since dentistry is
taken, I'll start at the other end."

Have you ever gone to a party and been introduced to a doctor.
After a hardy handshake, you discover he's a proctologist. Even wash-
ing your hands 6 times, you still find yourself only eating with your
left hand.  He is the one doctor you never ask for free advice, "Doc,
I've got this thing right here, can you take a look at it?  But he's
one person who's seen more assholes than you'd find at a political
convention.

Throughout the ages, proctologists have been the butt of many
jokes; butt I would not stoop to that level here.  I have given a
considerable number of minutes to formulating ideas to improve
people's concept of these doctors of the down under.

o In order for a proctologist to receive their medical certifica-
tion, their hand must fit in a size one glove, and they must have
   their fingernails removed.
o The proctologist's genitals shall literally be placed in the hands
of the patient. At the first sign of discomfort, the patient may
exert an equal pressure producing a similar discomfort.
o Proctologist's advertising shall NOT include phrases like:
"Let our fingers do the walking"
"We'll bend over backwards for you"
     "Please, take my seat"
"We give 'Moon over Miami' a hole new meaning"
     "It looks like the End"
o Doctors will not be allowed to use wise cracks or ice breakers
   like:
"I can't place my finger on it, butt you look familiar"
"Don't have a seat, I'll be right with you"
"Quick, nurse! Get the camera! They'll never believe THIS one!"
"Yes, I see a family resemblance"
"Hmmmm, looks like you're a quart low"
"The first three feet might be a bit uncomfortable; after that"
"Out of K-Y Jelly?  Oh well, let's do a dry run"
      "I'm putting you on a low-bean diet"
"Nurse, give me a number 2 sandpaper glove"
"How long have you had this crack in your butt?"
"I see you had pizza last night"
"When was the last time you had a lub and oil change?"
      "Ah, you must be gay"
"Nurse, come here   Ya want to feel something really weird?"
"Ooops, I think I lost my  watch"
"I've never seen stalagmites growing in one before!!"
"If you think that was a pain in the ass, wait till you get my  bill"
"Gee, I hope I can get this out"
"When was the last time you had your barnacles scraped?"
"Nurse! Who let this a** in my office?"

Yea, she asked alot about the Philippines when she was still here. I laughed when she said how popular Filipino soap operas were in Vietnam, apparently Filipina actresses are favored over there.

Buenos tarde Gai= Good afternoon, Gai. (you can say buenos dias, buenos tardes, buenos noches depending on the time of the day) the pronunciation is: Bwenos tardei

Yo estoy satisfecho satisfacerle= I am satisfied/pleased to meet you.
Pronunciation is: yo estoy satis fesho satis fattherlai (when speaking spanish, there are many ways to say a 'C', the proper Spanish way in saying a 'C' is with a soft 'th' sound. The same way you would say 'Th' in the word 'thumb'.

Ate Ging, after reading what you wrote, I immediately remembered this one excerpt in the Bible that relates to what you reflected.

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.
O give thanks to the Lord of Lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever:
The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever:
The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.

A bat is like a man, figuratively-speaking, he's a hunter-gatherer.

The following is a picture of bats in flight (searching for food):

Theres actually a lot of bats in Pennsylvania.

Gai, do you know what species of bat this is?

Its always very endearing to see a another fanatical scientist in these boards, Gai. The most important thing the Philippine government needs to consider is the preservation of our rich and wild fauna, as you have specifically demonstrated to us, just one example of the richness in species there is in one island. I can only imagine how many there are in the entire archipelago.

One thing is for sure, environmental preservation is a must in the Philippines. For scientists to say that the Philippines is rich in native fauna is truly and understatement.

Keep up the good work, Gai. I'm hungry for more to read.

Blessings are the things we take for granted.
Each holiday we notice what we see.
Most know the Earth is utterly enchanted
Yet walk through life and love mechanically.
Valuing one's gifts takes resolution
After days and nights of fantasy.
Love brings the sweet relief of absolution,
Enveloping our hesitance in need.
No touch inspires so swift a revolution,
Transforming all the hieroglyphs we read.
In your love is the charity of spring,
Nor self-obsessed nor blinded by some creed,
Embracing the grey dawns that blessings bring.

Poems and Poets / Wheels
January 31, 2008, 03:54:11 AM
My brother kept
in a frame on the wall
pictures of every motorcycle, car, truck:
in his rusted out Impala convertible
wearing his cap and gown
waving
in his yellow Barracuda
with a girl leaning into him
waving
on his Honda 350
waving
on his Honda 750 with the boys
holding a beer
waving
in his first rig
wearing a baseball hat backwards
waving
in his Mercury Montego
getting married
waving
in his black LTD
trying to sell real estate
waving
back to driving trucks
a shiny new rig
waving
on his Harley Sportster
with his wife on the back
waving
his son in a car seat
with his own steering wheel
my brother leaning over him
in an old Ford pickup
and they are
waving
holding a wrench a rag
a hose a shammy
waving.

My brother helmetless
rides off on his Harley
waving
my brother's feet
rarely touch the ground-
waving waving
face pressed to the wind
no camera to save him.

Poems and Poets / The Bat
January 31, 2008, 03:52:17 AM
Theodore Roethke

The Bat

By day the bat is cousin to the mouse.
He likes the attic of an aging house.

His fingers make a hat about his head.
His pulse beat is so slow we think him dead.

He loops in crazy figures half the night
Among the trees that face the corner light.

But when he brushes up against a screen,
We are afraid of what our eyes have seen:

For something is amiss or out of place
When mice with wings can wear a human face.

Gai,

I enjoyed reading the abstract, the samples of P. jagori as well as R. amplexicaudatus truly manifests species deviation throughout the island as you documented. I'm more interested if the same species exist in neighboring Cebu and can still mate with the existing species found in Bohol, or perhaps species deviation occurred as well thereby forcing the once-sister species to evolve to a totally different one.

Very interesting study, Gai. :)

Yes, Dong, Mocha is enjoying every bit of attention he gets.  Smiffy would say, "Dad, let's go to Mocha's house!" and not, "Dad, let's go to Ate Ging's house!" ;)  Mocha is a very smart cat and is so adorable. I really am not well informed about parapsychology and other paranormal studies, but we do have a class being taught by the Psychology department here on the aspects of parapsychology. I have a friend who is a doctoral student on Abnormal Psychology, and we discussed about the aspects of the electrificity of spirits, there are theories that spirits take advantage of electric energy to manifest themselves, per se in 'orbs' when one takes a camera. Usually, orbs are manifested in film when light is reflected back by some kind of object, in particular some paranormal experts go to cemeteries and grave-sites in the dark. They take random pictures of grave sites in total darkness, and when they produce the film, the area they shot was filled with orbs. I personally don't believe in it, however, its interesting to read the concepts of parapsychology.

There are thousands of students who attain their doctorates  (Psy.D or PhD) on parapsychology.

Today was a decent day, It was my first day of Nuclear Physics Laboratory, where I teach independent of the Professor. It was my first time teaching a course without the professor there, usually he's in his office and comes by to observe the class, but this course is part of my TA-ship, meaning I'm graded according to my ability to convey information. So far its not so bad, the class size isn't that bad, 41 students are in my lab and most of them are either second semester sophomores or juniors.
My first impression of the students is very positive, they're more serious than the students that I taught last semester in Ecology Lab, the students this year are more serious. Due to the shear number of students, I had to arrange them into 10 groups, about 4 students per group.

I just hope that my students remain focused, they all seem like determined students, I'd hate to see any of them fail my course this semester, specially since this course is a 'weeding-out' course. My main goal is to make sure that I have myself available for any of them if they need help with problems in lecture or in my lab.
#49189
Ah that explains it. Usually they say whenever there's alot of orbs in a picture, there is a lot of paranormal activity in the site.

There are special litigations that your relative could have pursued against the said company. Australia, as a democracy and a member of the UN and one that recognizes the Hague conferences is bound to its signature in protecting the human rights laws of all those who are citizens of Australia or peoples living within the territorial jurisdiction of Australia.

And as a ranking member of the Commonwealth of British Empire, it should abide by the core principles that were bequeathed by the British Enlightenment and by Parliament, which is the universality of rights. Equal and unalienable rights.

Reality>>>. We filipinos are also greatest racist. kasagaran man gud nato sige lang ta ingon sa mga puti og mga racista pero wala ta kabantay sa atoa nga ultimo mga bata gani makakita og negro dayon og sungog. Kakita gani og bombay ingnon dayon og baho. Anywhere in the world we can find racism.

This may be true, however every single human being despite their religion, creed, nationality or ethnicity will always manifest a sense of prejudice, it is natural to be somewhat indifferent to those who are foreign to your own, though there are exceptions. In general, it is so, specially in rather homogeneous societies; heterogeneous societies tend to have some instances of racism but not as high, due to the assimilatory process. So for Filipinos to hold some kind of prejudicial nature, it is only normal, rarely do I hear in the news media that Filipinos attack or ransack other people of a different racial stock. On the contrary, the Philippine government has a very loose and open-minded policy regarding foreign nationals, we don't have much of a racist ultranationalistic policy as compared to other countries.

For example, during the 1960s, it was common in south east asia to persecute the Chinese immigrants, in particular was in Indonesia during the 1968-1970 era when anti-communism was in the air. Many indigenous Indonesians (many of them poor) blamed the Chinese immigrants for being 'too successful' (its rather arbitrary in how they claimed this, with no basis at all, as if the Chinese were to blame for the laziness and inculpability of some Indonesian natives). There were race riots, leading to poor Indonesians attacking Chinese-owned businesses and killing and raping them, and looting their stores. The same can also be observed in Malaysia, in Thailand, as well as in Vietnam. What also is interesting is that most of their governments allowed this sort of backlash to occur, showing a 'state-sponsored racist policies' to immigrants. In the Philippines, however, this has never occurred. The Chinese and Chinese-Filipino were not attacked by the government, sure there are instances of racist pockets of Filipinos holding animosity on the success of the Chinese community here, however, for the most part are not physical in nature. One thing is for sure, though the Philippines is homogeneous in terms of ethnicity (over 90% of the country are part of the Malay-Polynesian ethnicity), the society is open to mingling and assimilation. The Chinese immigrants intermarry with the local Filipinos and thereby assumes his identity within the greater body of the Filipino masses and inherently declares his or her identity as 'Filipino'. This also counts for other nationals who immigrated to the country.

What separates the Filipino from the rest, is our natural open-mindedness. Our ability to adapt, and accept things over time.

Rarely have we as a people acted on violent passions, or racist passions. We have never had a 'cambodian genocide', 'race riots' (Thank God) in our history and never will. It is because we are different from the Asian region. We, unlike some Asians, have the concept of Christian morality. It is what separates us from them, they are, in essence, alien to our psyche. The Filipino is more European than Asian, we as a people inherited the fatalistic, and religious nature of the Spaniards. We have a clearly 'Hispanic' way of thinking.

NO........and   NO!

Truly loving someone - there is no chance for a double deal.  Loyal and  Respect your partner with her/his dignity.

There could be a second try or chance but.....trust will not be exisisting  anymore and it disturbs the marriage harmony at all.

Bitaw, pare.

When we take that oath in the wedding isle, "Till death do us part." It has to be so, in my beliefs.
You are married under the eyes of God, and under observance by your families. It is a sacred oath, marriage is, that two people give to each other, to promise that they are each other's. There is something special, beautiful and divine about it.

Take my parents for example, sure they have their bad storms (really really bad storms), but they love each other. Fighting is part of the whole deal, as what my dad says. They've been married for almost 25 years now, "there is no turning back" my dad always says. Hahaha. And it is really heart-warming to see my dad, from time to time say "I love you" to mom. We kids usually act all disgusted to hear it, but deep inside, we're happy for them and content that our ginikanans are still 'in love'. I can only wish 25+ more years for them.
