She's an oldie like me. Nine yrs old na siya, Mr Onicul.  

There's actually a romantic story behind my finding her. Ang auntie sa among amigo namatay, she was 89 yrs old. She was an old maid and Anna was her dog. When she died, iyang nephew naka inherit sa tanan, including Anna. He didn't want her though so he called us to see if we could babysit her for a week while he goes on vacation, and then pagbalik daw niya he will take her to the pound. When he came to get her later that week, I couldn't let Anna go. I fell in love with her.  

Naa ko'y pics niya pero dili man ko kamao mo post. I'm sooo low-tech.

I couldn't choose just one. I've been fortunate in that I've had the best teachers gyud.

But the very first was my lola (I call her mommy), she raised me, and taught me so many wonderful things. She's a brilliant woman.

Next would be my Tia Linda (now in heaven with God), she was a 5th grade math teacher. She was also my coach kung mag apil2x ko'g contest. Kung masayop gani ko'g pronounce sa usa ka word, aw paka ang kamot.

Then, Tia Pacit, my 6th grade teacher. She was a great mentor.

Daghan pa gyud ko'g mga teachers nga paborito, but these 3 are tops in my list.  

I already did.  

No regrets.

That is also a trait that is unique with bol-anons. Dili man gyud ang pagkaon or ang pista ang ulion ba, but what it represents. Coming together as a family. It's a tradition. 

I couldn't find anything wrong with being bol-anon. Almost everyone I know, are either lumad bol-anons or have some bol-anon blood in them. And they are all remarkable people. Bol-anons are very protective of their own. I grew up in Bohol but moved to Mindanao (where my parents lived) when I was a teenager, and a lot of Mindanaoans (maybe about 80%) ang ilang kagikan kay Bohol man. Sa among lugar sa Mindanao, mag tinabangay man ang mga bol-anon. Unya, mag dungan pud ug panguli inig ka Mayo kay ma mista. LOL Mopugos gyud ug sakay sa barko bahala'g wala'y teheras basta maka uli lang.

Samot na gyud ko ani nga "walang tulugan!"

I guess I am included in this statistic, of the so-called Philippine Medical Diaspora. The reason I left my job in the Phils was simple and quite obvious -- compensation. I was a young, single professional with no dependents, with a job that was generally considered "well-paying", and yet, month after month, I found myself struggling to make ends meet. And that despite being stingy (bol-anon gud, medyo tihik gyud) with money.

I have a cousin though, who's a surgeon in Mindanao. His wife is a teacher in the college of nursing sa ilang lugar. They both made the choice to stay in our country. The husband goes home to Bohol a couple of times a year to perform free surgeries on indigents. I really admire him for that. He is one of only few who are able to look beyond themselves and their families, and see the bigger picture -- of serving and giving back to the community. There are times when I wish I'd stayed and do what he does, but then I've also realized nga mas naa ko'y gamit karong naa nako sa abroad kumpara sa kadtong naa pa kos atoa.

My mom told me about the election results in Inabanga, truly disappointing gyud. A college kid was declared mayor. But then they say his mom is quite powerful. Naa daw mga goons.
