let's just wait what's the outcome since i can feel some people are going to become sacrificial lambs. BSP and PDIC found several banking malpractice that the legacy group and its banks are doing like giving loans without collaterals, giving loans to unknown people with spurious addresses and giving loans without credit investigation reports. how can you let someone get a loan involving millions of pesos without even getting the money but can get the 1 percent share of the commission? that practice alone merits a case of estafa, qualified theft, falsification of documents and anti-money laundering. how much penalty does it carry? that i don't know...

Health and Food / 5 dirtiest foods
December 17, 2008, 10:52:06 PM
The 5 dirtiest foods
by Sarah Jio, Vitamin G, Glamour Magazine, on Wed Dec 10, 2008

I know someone who never washes their fruits and vegetables after bringing them home from the market because he believes that they're washed at the store. Um, no. Read on to learn about what some call the "5 dirtiest foods" and for a food safety wake-up call...

****
The dirty food list, according to this fascinating piece I found over at AOL Health include the following:

Eggs: While most eggs aren't going to make anyone sick, experts estimate that more than 2 million germy eggs (as in Salmonella infected) get into circulation each year, sickening 660,000 people each year and killing as many as 300. Um, maybe we should think twice about eating that cookie dough (or, judging by our conversation on Vitamin G, perhaps you'd rather take your chances?). How to buy cleaner eggs? Make sure the carton says they're pasteurized and never buy a dozen that contains any obvious cracks or leaks.

Peaches: They're pretty, but that's just skin-deep. Health experts warn that peach skins are doused in pesticides before they make it to grocery store to prevent blemishes. On average, a peach can contain as many as nine different pesticides, according to the USDA. This is one fruit you might want to buy organic (which may have blemishes, but won't have pesticides). (Here's How Peaches Can Help You Build Muscle.)

Pre-packaged salad mixes: Surprise! "Triple washed" doesn't mean germ-free say experts. Pathogens may still be lurking so be sure to wash your greens before tossing in your salad bowl. (Don't make these salad mistakes!)

Melons: Get ready to be grossed out. According to the article, "when the FDA sampled domestically grown cantaloupe, it found that 3.5 percent of the melons carried Salmonella and Shigella, the latter a bacteria normally passed person-to-person. Among imported cantaloupe, 7 percent tested positive for both bugs." Ewww. Your best bet: Scrub your melons with a little mild dish soap and warm water before slicing. (Stay healthy with these delicious winter fruits!)

Scallions: Blamed for several recent outbreaks of Hepatitis A, and other bugs like the parasite Cryptosporidium, Shigella and Salmonella, scallions present a food safety problem because of the way they grow (in the dirt) and lack of proper washing. While you can't control what happens in restaurant kitchens, you can give them a super-duper washing at home before cooking with.

Other dirty foods in the article include chicken, ground beef and turkey, raw oysters, and cold cuts.

The bottom line: Don't be afraid to eat these foods, just be aware of the precautions you need to take before enjoying them. Most food-borne illnesses are the result of hygiene carelessness somewhere in the food chain. Protect yourself!

how are they going to identify valid deposits from spurious deposits? they should instead confiscate or freeze the assets of the accounts being owned by the managers and other biggies of legacy and the banks involve who are also deposited in their own banks. that's a clear banking malpractice since they are offering big interests and they wanted to take that opportunity for their own personal interest.

Nag-iisang pag-ibig ang nais makamit yun ay ikaw
Nag-iisang pangako na di magbabago para sayo

San ka man ay sana'y maalala mo
Kailan man asahan di mag kalayo

Tanging ikaw lamang ang aking iibigin
Walang ibang hiling kundi ang yakap mo't halik

hindi malilimutan mga araw natin kay sarap balikan
At lagi mong isipin walang ibang mahal kundi ikaw

Malayo ka man ay sana'y maalala mo

kamaayo pangasaw-on aning doktora uy. buotan na, kugihan pa jud.

last time nga akong nahibaw-an nga usa ka doktora nga akong amiga in which pareha ug principle ni doktora oi kadtong naa sa sikatuna. wherein she started from a humble beginning being a midwife serving the rural areas in balilihan and sikatuna. later she realized that she wanted to serve them more so she decided to take up medicine and years passes by, she eventually became a doctor. but since balilihan already have a resident MHO, she was taken by sikatuna where she eventually became a household name and settled there for good. she is now married to the son of the mayor of sikatuna who happens to be a distant relative of mind.

kudos to these new breed of heroes.

i think there is a proposal or a bill being made in congress to up the PDIC insurance to 1M from 250k. i dunno what is the progress but this bill came up when the big banks in US shut down because of the recession particularly the AIG and lehmann brothers.
going back to Legacy, i think they are just using that name to suck in more money from people but eventually they are putting it another account or company. im sure the people behind all of these are smiling secretly and doesn't show any remorse.
a good friend of mind from iligan made a initial deposit to PCRB cagayan de oro amounting to 200k but he was persuaded by other friends to close the account and not proceed in putting his 1.2k as well. he did the right decision.

i think the best way for the seaweeds farmer in bohol is to put up a cooperative if they don't have one. it can really help them augment their income in so many ways because they can control what they sold and their income will be solidified plus they can use it for another income generating project.

Question and Answer / Who is smarter, Men or Women?
December 16, 2008, 11:04:43 PM
Who's Smarterâ€"Men Or Women?

When it comes to intelligence, the battle of the sexes continues.

People continue to debate the question, Who is smarter, men or women?

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia have released a study that may help settle the debate.

The researchers note that there have been lots of previous studies which found that head size correlates statistically with intelligence--not quite a widely known fact.

Because on average a man's body and head is bigger than woman's, many might believe that men are more intelligent than women.

The researchers say, however, that is not the case. Men and women consistently score equally on intelligence tests, experts agree. Women are just as smart as men.

Job Interview: What Not To Do The University of Pennsylvania Medical Center report also addresses the question, If head size correlates with intelligence and women have smaller heads, why don't they have lower intelligence?

The recent study concludes that men and women simply think differently.

"We are beginning to get an explanation for the lack of intelligence disparity between men and women," said Dr. Ruben C. Gur, noted psychology professor, author of the new study.

"Women have a higher percentage of tissue devoted to computation than men. Men have a greater proportion of tissue assigned to the transfer of information between distant regions."

The recent study found that women have a higher proportion of "gray matter" than men. Men have a higher proportion of "white matter."

Gray matter is where computation takes place with nearby regions in the brain. White matter is responsible for the communication between groups of cells in different areas of the brain.

Forty men and 40 women, ages 18-45, participated in the study on intelligence. The study has received national attention and appeared in several media outlets including the Journal of Neuroscience.

The New York Daily News also reported on the study in a story by Michael Segell and noted: "Women's brains are organized around instant linkage, which explains why they can become best friends with a stranger while standing in a check-out line."

The newspaper also noted, "Men's brains are designed to draw connections between seemingly unrelated ideas and feelings--between a new car, say, and sexual arousal."

The study also offered a possible explanation of why men are better at certain mental processes than women and vice versa. Generally, women excel on verbal tasks, while men do better on spatial tasks.

An example of a spatial task given to the study participants involved viewing an array of lines fanning out at angles. Shown a second set of two shorter lines at similar angles, the participants were asked to identify which lines in the original fan array matched the angles of the shorter line.

Experts agree that the debate on intelligence between men and women is one battle that will go on and on, without a winner on either side. But one thing remains clear, the experts say, men and women do think differently.

Talk of the Town / Re: Tagbilaran - Rural Bank closed
December 15, 2008, 11:56:29 PM
what happened to the legacy group owned rural banks is a case of pyramiding scheme that uses banks as it's collateral to their clients. legacy group is practicing bad loans and bank procedures. if you do lifestyle checks on any legacy employees and agents, they all owned several properties such as houses, cars among others. where did they get the money? from their downline and commissions from bank depositors and creditors. they didn't show any emotions after news broke out of possible closure and receivership from PDIC because they all know that it's where the company and it's banks are heading long before. the case between legacy and BSP erupted sometime in june 2007 after BSP found out the irregularities and other anomalies by the mother company legay. but legacy was able to get  TRO from an RTC and BSP elevate the case to the supreme court where it took more than year to resolve. last 1st of december, supreme court announced it's ruling in favor of BSP in which legacy didn't even contest because they know they are in the losing end. and gues who reported the irregularities? it was jacinto "jack hammer" jamero who is a true bloodied bol-anon from loon. he was the previous owner of PCRB before it was purchased by Legacy. he filed several suits trying to claim back his bank but he lost the case to legacy. had he succeded in taking back PCRB, until now PCRB could have been alive and become one of the best rural bank in RP behind greenbank. PCRB's demise is a big loss to the cebuanos since it's been part of their lives since 1967 when the corporate members of this bank are the frasco's and durano's in the midnorth.

there is no such thing as substandard materials because all construction materials from cement to iron bars and cables passed the standards set by DTI. in this case, it's another case of corruption from the agency who contracted the project. several people lay claims that most government projects spearheaded by DPWH are bound to collapse because of lack of strenght since the materials are not complete. it's always 25-50% less than the proposed materials.

10. SM City North Edsa

currently, SM north edsa is at #10. if expansion of SM north will make it the 3rd largest, then another SM property will slide down to # 4 which is the SM mall of asia. therefore the order will become:

1.South China Mall
2.Golden Resources Shopping Mall
3.SM City North Edsa
4.SM Mall of Asia
5.Cevahir Istanbul
6.West Edmonton Mall
7.SM Megamall
8.Berjaya Times Square
9.Beijing Mall
10.Zhengjia Plaza

that puts 4 for china and 3 for RP all in all while the the top 4 is occupied by china and RP. what made the RP malls distinct is that they are all owned by the same owner.
other fact, of the top 10, SM owns the oldest (SM North) and newest (SM mall of asia) malls.

daghan nang rubout mahitabo sa pinas kung modaug si ping. sige man gani ang rubout nga senador pa siya. kana lang nahitabo sa parañaque, maoy pinakangilngig nga hitabo nga akong nahibaw-an kay 17 kabuok patay including a child. mas daghan ang sibilyan nga nadamay. at first ingon ang mga pulis nga suspect to sila pero later on ni-retract igo rang niingon nga it's unfortunate kay didto sila at the time of the encounter kay ang mga suspect nagpataka nalang kuno pamusil as desperate measures. matud pa sa mga saksi, ang mga pulis ang nagsige pataka ug pamusil.

Business and Economy / Oil falls below $43
December 09, 2008, 11:03:22 PM
LONDON (Reuters) â€" Oil fell below $43 a barrel on Tuesday, reversing earlier gains as investors expected U.S. data to show another drop in fuel demand in the world's top consumer.

U.S. crude was down 54 cents at $43.17 a barrel at 1418 GMT (9:18 a.m. EST), after sinking earlier to $42.89.

London Brent crude eased by 59 cents to $42.83.

The downward trend for oil remained very much intact.

"$40 a barrel could be difficult to break, but we expect WTI to go lower in the coming months. GDP, oil demand weakness and the crude overhang are much clearer than OPEC cuts so far," said SG Commodities Research said in a weekly note.

Oil traders were awaiting the 1700 GMT release on Tuesday of the U.S. Energy Department's Short Term Energy Outlook, which was expected to show downgrades in 2009 oil demand estimates.

In a forecast issued last month, the Energy Department said total U.S. oil demand was projected to fall by an additional 250,000 bpd, or 1.3 percent next year, after dropping 1.1 million bpd, or 5.4 percent, in 2008.

The outlook for global oil consumption is very much on the minds of ministers from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, which meets on December 17 in Algeria.

OPEC is expected to reduce overall production by a minimum of one million barrels per day (bpd).

"Oil is on a count-down to OPEC now and everyone is expecting them to come up with something big -- probably a cut of 1-1.5 million bpd," said Rob Laughlin, senior oil analyst at brokers MF Global in London.

"If OPEC doesn't make a big cut, this market is in trouble."
