Behold, La Jota de Manila.

The product of 4 centuries of Spanish Influence.

Notice the form of the Flamenco; only it is Filipinized in form.

Beautiful,

This is why Historians refer the Philippines as "Europe of the East"
It is the only nation in Asia that is Europeanized in culture.

Ate, you don't give yourself credit. Bisaya has a lot of Spanish loan words baya and the numbers in Bisaya is Hispano-influenced.

Usa- Uno
Duha- Dos
Tulu- Tres

etc, etc,

Actually, it is very easy for a Filipino to learn Spanish because both languages have been mingled already. Spain too benefited from the Filipino.

An example is the dish called 'Adobo'. The dish is popular in Latin American and in Spain, but did you know that Adobo was originally of a Filipino dish? It was imported to Nueva Espana (Mexico) during the 16th century, there it adopted latin flavors such as the use of black beans, black pepper, etc, but the original dish was of Filipino origin. A clearly Malay dish.

Adobo is the most popular dish in the Latin World, including in Spain. Not many know that it was originally Filipino, then later 'Latinized'.

Dearest Caroline,

You were a close friend in summer of my junior year ha, you were my secret crush then and i enjoyed every minute every waking day that i was able to be with you. Remember when we walked around Georgetown University that night of July 20th, 2003? While everyone else was dancing and celebrating the closing of the NYLF internship, my heart was aching because I would never see you again, and as I was standing by the side of the Carr Library, i turned around to see you looking directly at me asking, "Why are you here by yourself, Al?"

Caroline you don't know how you made my heart jump to see your face! I wanted so much to run to you and pick you up with my arms, but a las I had to control my urges. I remember walking with you that night talking about our experiences in NYLF and it brought me such happiness to hear your voice. Your embrace was like sweet cotton candy, your breath was like an aroma of lily sprouting on a effervescent April morning as the dew of the night falls to its stem. The touch of your hand filled me with ecstasy. I wanted to kiss you so many times in my dreams, i wanted to hold you in my arms and many times over.

You will always be 'Caroline' in my mind. 5 years have passed, and still the image I have of you was during that summer of 2003. My first true 'crush'. I never told you that, but perhaps, you knew. :)

Always,
From the Heart,
Al

Lyrics:

you think i'd leave your side baby
you know me better than that
you think i'd leave you down when you're down on your knees
i wouldn't do that
i'll tell you you're right when you want
and if only you could see into me
ha ah ah ah ah ah

oh when you're cold
i'll be there
hold you tight to me

when you're on the outside baby and you can`t get in
i will show you you're so much better than you know
when you're lost and you're alone and you cant get back again
i will find you darling and i will bring you home

and if you want to cry
i am here to dry your eyes
and in no time
you'll be fine

you think i'd leave your side baby
you know me better than that
you think id leave you down when you're down on your knees
i wouldn't do that
i'll tell you you're right when you want
and if only you could see into me
ha ah ah ah ah ah

oh when you're cold
i'll be there
hold you tight to me
when you're low
i'll be there
by your side baby

oh when you're cold
i'll be there
hold you tight to me
oh when you're low

The Republicans were given the chance. For 8 years they ran the presidency, and for 4 years the Republicans dominated the house and senate. What was accomplished? Massive debt through this war, economic collapse, and an unemployment rate that has not been known since the time of Nixon.

The Republicans do not deserve a second chance. They had 8 years. Nothing was gained.

Miss Pam P,

Thank you so much for bearing with me during my 3rd year of high school, I know that I was not the best person to talk to. I was always putting you aside whenever you wanted to do something or whenever you called me, I would just hang up my phone because I would be embarrassed to be associated with you. My friends always mocked me for knowing you, I tried to confront them before, pero they made it so that if i continued to see you, my friendship with them would end.

My parents also did not want me to go out with a non-Filipina and that was the major reason why I did not see you after our 4th date. I never told you how strict my family was, choices were not made by my own person, but by my own parents. Please understand and please forgive me for my inability to tell you the honest to God truth.

Perhaps I was to childish to recognize this. I made you wait for a long time, and the one time when you met with me outside of John's house crying was like a knife stabbing my heart. I could not console you because I did not know how to react. You needed me to hug you then, but I did not, I walked away as you called my name, "Al, Al, dont leave me." Yet I walked away. My heart aches still remembering it. I am so sorry, Pam. I was a fool, an adolescent fool.

I haven't even talked to you since, I dont even know where you are now. Are you still in New Jersey?

Tinuud jud, Ate Ging. Your powerful statement shook me to the bones jud, 'te. It reminds me that right now as I am young and opt to proceed to future studies, to never forget my background and where I come from. Ate Ging, I will admit to you my brothers and sisters of my own faults and of my own sins, for being too proud before, for allowing myself to care not for others who did not like me or due to the competition I had in classes and in research. I told my mom about this and what she told me brought reality to me. And truly without my mom, who tells me the brutal honest truth, i would have already gone astray.

"Bran, anak, do not forget where you come from. Your lolo and lola did not even have education pero they were able to send me and your titos and titas to school. Do you look down on them for no education? Ang mama ug papa sa imung Daddy, do you look down on them because naa ra sila didto? Ayaw jud pa bastos-bastos ondoy, kai your ginikanans come from a humble and simple background jud. Ikaw, eldest ka , you must lead through example so your younger sister and brother will learn through you"

"Mo give thanks ka sa ginoo, ondoy, kai naka anhi ka kai gi taga-an man ko ug imung daddy ug chance to come here sa America. Be humble doy, ayaw pa saka-saka kai gamay ra man jud ta sa ginoo"

I listened to my mother's words. And I control my pride, I let it go whenever it is attacked, because it is not worth it.

Ate Ging, thank you kaayo for sharing this proverb. It teaches all of us a lesson. And for me, personally, it reiterates what my Mother and Father tell me all the time. "Be God-fearing"

I hope your friend learns from her mistakes as well, and that she changes her ways in looking down on other people.

Truly, I mean this when I say this, Salamaat kaayo for sharing this.
Your words speak the truth, Ate Ging.

Quotable Quotes / Reply: Try Even If You Fail
February 13, 2008, 01:59:27 AM
The great scientists, Watson and Crick were both unsuccessful in DNA synthesis, but they did not give up on the field of Molecular Biology. Nay, both of them collaborated and providence shined upon them both. The two of them were able, through their failures in the past, to learn from their mistakes and eventually mapped the Human Genome. They were able to construct the double helical structure of Eukaryotic DNA; and mandating the antiparallelity of the structure.

Hence, the birth of molecular biology. From which, led to human intervention of molecular-level diseases; understanding of those diseases and conditions and preventing or changing the outcome through chemical therapy. Because of the works of Watson and Crick, humans are now able to genetically clone DNA polyermases, peroxidases, proteins, chromosomes on the molecular level. And eventually on the organismal level.

It is true what Mr. Ayag said; every failure presents a window of opportunity and progress.

Great minds of the past were successful because they learned from their mistakes; which fueled their resolve.

February 13, 2008, 12:32:22 AM
Hitler was a brilliant orator. I give him that. He could rally thousands by a mere speech. The devil gave him the ability to seduce the minds of innocents through his voice and through his perverted reasoning.

He allowed his scientists to carry out scientific experiments on jews, gypsies, gays, slavs, children, women, elderly. They were treated like cattle, and not as human beings.

He was utterly disgusting. Perverted man who was gifted with some abilities through the Devil.

He lived by the sword, and he died by the sword. It is only a shame that the German people had to pay for his mistakes. Not all of them were evil, or believed in him, merely they were forced to else face the consequences of the extermination camps.

I pray that a demon like Hitler will never come out of this earth. I pray that history will teach us a lesson and prevent something like this from ever happening again.

Absolutely correct, Ate Belle.

I personally think that he was a pathetic coward. This slime of a human being was responsible for the murder of:

12 million European Jews
8 million Slavs (Eastern Europeans)
4-5 million Gypsies
1-2 million Homosexuals, political dissidents

Uncounted hundreds of thousands of French, Italians, Romanians, Ukrainians, and Allied POWs.

He boasted to the Germans that he could bring them 1000 years of Aryan supremacy.
He demanded his subjects call him 'Der Feurher' (the Master); and a cult of persona followed suit, he was worshiped as a God.

His 'Empire' didn't last more than 6 years. And Germany payed a terrible and brutal price for their naivety in following this moron's lead.

They awoke the American Giant. America's Hand leveled Germany's Body. Her cities were withered to the ground, her civilians were massacred by the Absolute Determination of the American Military.

General Topic / Reply: Hitler's Escape to the Antartica?

Impossible,

Hitler took a cyanide pill with his mistress, Eva Braun in his personal bunker as the German military's defenses buckled before the incoming Soviet Red Army. Hitler and Braun not only took cyanide, but committed double suicide by shooting each other with a Luger pistol. Dead shots.

The remains of the Feurher were disposed of vis-a-vis concentrated acid then burnt; for fear of Soviet claim of his body.

It is said that remains of his skull is in a military museum in Russia.

It would have been unrealistic for Hitler to escape to Antarctica due to the logistical impossibilities:

1. The German Kriegs Marine was literally strangled to death by the United States Navy; the United States poured in destroyers upon destroyers and frigates and wiped out any living semblance of Germany's U-boat wolf packs as well as annihilating the German surface fleet. Germany's naval fleet was obliterated by summer of 1944; thereby preventing their offensive or naval defense against the Allied invasion of El-Alamien as well as storming the beaches of Italy and checking the Nazi's southern flank; as well as in the storming of the beaches of Normandy; checking Germany's northern flank and breaching Germany's supposed "Impregnable Atlantic Wall".

There were no other ships Hitler could have used to travel to Antarctica. The Eagle of the United States Navy made sure that they were either obliterated in surface waters or sleeping permanently in the belly of the Atlantic. Think about this; the United States tore apart Germany's navy as well as air force while fighting her at half capacity. The other half of the United States Navy, Air Force and Armed Infantry was contributed to the liberation of the Pacific from the Japanese. Completely and utterly destroying Japan's offensive right arm and eradicating her soldiers within 3 years. And completely leveling Japan through air raids then Nuking the country to teach her a lesson to never mess with the Eagle of America.

2. Even if Hitler hypothetically escaped to Antarctica, he and his followers would have died within a week. Due to the lack of any vegetation or wildlife that can sustain them besides occasion flocks of seal and moss. Additionally, the frigid temperatures of Antarctica would have completely frozen their naval vessel and Hitler; Temperature in the arctic reaches -30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Buenos Dias, Sra. Orchids!

'You' in Spanish is 'Tu'

I'll give you an example.

English: Where are you from?

Spanish: De donde eres tu? (transliteration is: of where are you)

Another example;

English: My name is Brando Lorenzo Lucino and I'm from the Philippine Islands, but I've lived in the United States for 17 years. What about you? Have you been in North America for a long time? Yes?

Spanish: Me llamo Brando Lorenzo Lucino y yo donde Las Islas Filipinas pero yo vivo en Los Estados Unidos por diez y siete anos y tu?  tu vivaste en Norte-America por muchos anos? Si?

Stay on these roads

by A-ha

[mp3tube]878ed4d60b120d9f19b2ee7a94affbf6[/mp3tube]

The cold has a voice
it talks to me

Still-born by choice
and it airs no need to hold.
Old man feels the cold
oh
baby
don't

'cause I've been told:

Stay on these roads
we shall meet
I know

Stay on
my love
we shall meet
I know
I know.

Where joy should reign
these skies restrain

Shadow your love
- the voice trails off again

The voice trails ofF again.
Old man feels the cold
oh
baby
don't

'cause I've been told:

Stay on these roads
we shall meet
I know

Stay on
my love
you feel so weak
be strong.
Stay on
stay on
we shall meet
I know
I know

I know
my love
I know.

Feel the cold
winter's calling on my home
yeah.
Stay on these roads
we shall meet
I know

Stay on
my love
we will meet
I know

So stay on! I know!
Stay
my love
stay on
we will meet
I know
I know!

Bible Study / Reply: Christ, Be our Light
February 12, 2008, 03:46:26 PM
What I like most about this video is the message that the Blessed Mother Teresa gives to us.

In this video, which was shot in the 1980s, you can definitely see her humility, and when she talks, you can see through your eyes and through your eternal soul that God is talking through her. She lived through Christ, the Lord Almighty, and she has touched millions of lives all over the world.

And she sends to us  beautiful and powerful message, specially in our time when faith is being tested.

She says it so clearly, so beautifully and faithfully, "that presence of the poor, the work, the love in action that is present throughout the world is a proof that GOD IS."

Bible Study / Reply: Internalizing the Proverbs
February 12, 2008, 03:36:12 PM
Reading this proverb is very humbling for me,

Our pride, my pride,  your pride, pride itself is something that must be limited, and something that we must evade from increasing. As the Lord clearly tells us that an excess of will bring the man and woman down, do not glorify yourself so much as that it ever surpasses the glorification of God. We must remember that tho we may be successful now, in the future, all of the good graces we experience is through the Goodness of the Almighty Father.

Pride is something that can distort the soul, and if it is left unchecked, will give anyone a false sense of superiority and lead to our stepping over of other people; violation of other's rights, transgression of other's. Pride leads to hate, and though all of us experience pride, we must humble ourselves for the Lord loves the one who is repentant, those who corrects his own ways; for the Lord abounds in the meek, the simple and faithful in the Lord.

When I read this proverb, It reminds me about the psalm regarding the 'Rich Man'. The rich man who rejected to travel with Christ Jesus because his pride prevented him from selling his belongings and giving the poor to walk with Christ. This is a lesson to us; to listen to when we are called and hide not our love for the sake of pride.

Just as he humbled the greatest of all the seraphs, cherubs, all the angels in Heaven, Lucifer Child of Dawn, so can he humble those who are in earth.

Just as a father will discipline a child who steals from his parents and other siblings; so too will He discipline us in the same manner.

This is what makes America beautiful. A nation where not only the majority, but the minority can prosper, where a man's color does not limit his or her place in society. Where you are not judged by the color of your skin, but by the sharpness of your intellect and contribution to society. The sky's the limit. Obama is proof of that.

Obama is the top choice, in my college, most of us collegians are pro-Barak Obama. Throughout the entire country, he is popular amongst the new generation. He is the 'fresh air' that this country so desperately needs.

I like Obama because he reminds me of Vespasian, the Roman Emperor. Vespasian was the absolute monarch of Rome during the bleakest times of the Empire, when the eagle of Rome was engaged in brutal wars in pacifiying Germania, the Visigoths, the Dacians in the east, the Parthians in the far east, and the Numidians in the south. Rome, at the time before he was crowned Emperor, was on the verge of economic collapse; and military starvation due to the thousands of Legions spread throughout the Empire. Rome knew no peace since the age of Pax Romana during the time of Augustus the Great.

Vespasian, changed that. He was young, brilliant, a man of the people, and talked about the "Greatness of Rome", the "Rebuilding of Rome." And he did just that, under his rule, he conquored Germania and Romanized the region; bringing Roman law, Roman religion, Roman culture throughout the four corners of the Empire. And peace lasted for over 2 centuries, allowing the Empire to last for another quarter of a millenia.

Obama echoes those words. He has talked about rebuilding the "Greatness of America", and shining the "Light of America" in the world.

He is what this Republic, this American Republic needs. New ideas, new plans, aggressive domestic policy. And he, unlike his geriatric counterparts in the Republican party, is not that dilluted in corruption. Obama is young, fierce, full of energy. He is the Vespasian of our era. And I have deep confidence he will usher in a new age for this Great Nation, the awakening of Pax Americana.

In my personal opinion, I would not vote for McCain despite similar views. The man is on the verge of geriatric paralysis, and it would be counter to the interest of this country to have him die of either old age or respiratory, neurological problems while in office and while the country is in desperate need of a strong and reliable political figure.

Obama, is my top choice. He is a moderate, a liberterian-esque on economic terms, which will garner some support from moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats. His policies regarding external affairs is reminscent of the Clinton Administration during the epoch of Pax Americanum. When Clinton was in power from 1993-2001, this country experienced an economic boom, a miniscule unemployment rate, peaceful relations with most countries, limited military action, and overall massive domestic improvements. It was during the Bush administration that society was depleted of the Clintonian establishments; that and the fact that Bush brought us to war; and as a result of this protracted war, over 1 Trillion US Dollars have been spent, almost 4,000 US soldiers killed and over 3 divisions of troops (~30,000) were either maimed, injured or missing in action. Military spending right now is massive, this country has purchased over 200 FA-22 raptors (pricing at 200 Million US Dollars each), thousands of Abrams tanks, and building a 4th generation Super Carrier, which has cost this country's tax payers over 50 Billion US dollars. As we speak, dozens of AEGIS destroyers are also being built, price of which ranges from 5-10 billion US dollars each.

The American civilian is being burdened by unecessary tax breaks, which will only benefit the economic elite and not the working class American, this expensive war and the uncontrollable military spending.

McCain is a moderate candidate, and his policies covers my interests; primarily a more relaxed economy, reduced military spending, though the major problems that I have with him is the fact that he is a War-Hawk that and the fact that he agrees in increasing the strain on Iran and the maintenance of American control in Iraq while leaving domestic control of the region to the Iraqi parliament. I am irritated on that considering the United States has spent almost 1 Trillion US Dollars on this war; and if McCain pursues another offensive or maintains the current situation, this country will bankrupt itself and humiliate the working class.

McCain knows that he isn't right wing enough to capture the votes of the religious right, so therefore it would be of strategic interest for him to take Huckabee into his wing as Vice President candidate, as Huckabee is popular amongst the religious right. McCain would garner the votes of moderate voters, liberterian, right wing militants as well as religious rightists.

As for Obama, I have no idea who he would choose as his running mate. Either Clinton or Edwards.
