World Daily News / Japan launches Internet satellite
February 25, 2008, 03:52:08 AM

Japan's space agency launched an experimental communications satellite Saturday designed to enable super high-speed data transmission at home and in Southeast Asia.

The domestically developed H-2A rocket carrying the satellite, "Kizuna," was launched Saturday evening from the southern island of Tanegashima, according to a live Internet broadcast by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, known as JAXA.

The satellite, equipped with two large multi-beam antennas, separated from the rocket and successfully entered its intended orbit 175 miles from Earth, JAXA said in a statement.

The agency said it hoped to enable data transmission of up to 1.2 gigabytes per second at a low cost across Japan and in 19 different places in Southeast Asia. JAXA developed Kizuna with another government agency, the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.

The cost of the satellite's development, launch and operation is estimated at $480 million, JAXA spokeswoman Asaka Hagiwara said.

Japan has yet to join the lucrative international satellite market, and Kizuna, which should be in operation for five years, is not intended for commercial use. Its large H-2A rocket is one of the most advanced and reliable in the world â€" Saturday's was its eighth straight successful launch.

Japan launched its first satellite in 1970 and has achieved several major scientific coups in space â€" including launching a probe that collected samples from an asteroid.

Japan is racing to catch up with regional rival China, which has put astronauts in space twice since 2003 and was the third country to send a human into orbit after Russia and the United States. Japan has since announced plans to send its first astronauts into space and set up a base on the moon by 2025.

In February 2007, the agency launched its fourth intelligence-gathering satellite amid concerns over neighboring North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile programs.

No Man, No matter how great they are in life, stays in power forever. Time claims everyone, from the great to the small.

Nearly a half century of rule by Fidel Castro was ending Sunday as Cuban lawmakers chose his replacement â€" widely expected to be his younger brother Raul.

The transition was not likely to bring a major shift in policies of the communist government that have put it at odds with the United States. But many Cubans were hoping it would open the door to modest economic reforms and improvement in their daily lives.

The parliament was choosing a new 31-member ruling body known as the Council of State to lead the country. The council's president serves as the head of state and government.

In his final essay as president, the ailing, 81-year-old Castro wrote that preparations for the parliament meeting "left me exhausted," and he said he did not regret his decision to step down.

"I slept better than ever," he wrote in the commentary published on Friday. "My conscience was clear and I promised myself a vacation."

The U.S. has said the change from one Castro to another would not be significant, calling it a "transfer of authority and power from dictator to dictator light."

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday Cubans have a right "to choose their leaders in democratic elections" and urged the government "to begin a process of peaceful, democratic change by releasing all political prisoners, respecting human rights, and creating a clear pathway towards free and fair elections."

Her statement, issued shortly before parliament met, called the developments a "significant moment in Cuba's history."

With Sunday's vote, Castro's 49 years as head of the communist state in America's backyard will come to an end. He retains his post as a lawmaker and as head of the Communist Party. But his power in government has eroded since July 31, 2006, when he announced he had undergone emergency intestinal surgery and was provisionally ceding his powers to 76-year-old Raul.

The younger Castro has headed Cuba's caretaker government in the 19 months since then, and Fidel Castro has not appeared in public.

Castro was among the 614 members of parliament elected on Jan. 20 but his seat was empty at Sunday's gathering. As the names of the new National Assembly's members were read aloud, mention of the absent Castro drew a standing ovation. Parliament gave another standing ovation to Raul.

If the first round of voting Sunday, National Assembly President Ricardo Alarcon was nominated for re-election to his post, effectively removing him as a dark horse candidate for the presidency of the ruling council.

Lawmakers then began filling out paper ballots to be filed secretly on his post and other parliament positions.

Fidel Castro's ballot with his votes for governing Council of State members, including his replacement, was delivered to parliament.

Dear E,

Do you remember when we were walking back from St. Aloysius all the way back to the apartment in Dekalb Ave? It was blizzarding back in 1995 and I was no more than 9 years old then and you were about the same age. We walked back from school sa una and it was snowing and raining at the same time. I can remember you saying, "O no, we can't get home in this." And ning hold hands ta, all the way from St. Aloysius to the apartment complex where your family and my family lived. haha, puppy love? Your mittens were pink, and my gloves, which were obviously too big for my hands, were red--covered with the emblem of 'Power Rangers', lol. You used to tease me about my Power-Rangers fascination, and I used to tease you about your Sesame Street pink gloves.

When we moved that summer '95, I was deprived of ever talking to you again. And have not see you since then.

One can only think what could have been. Or not. How are you? Where are you?

I miss your pink gloves  :-[

Your walking buddy,

Lyrics

If you’re not the one then why does my soul feel glad today?
If you’re not the one then why does my hand fit yours this way?
If you are not mine then why does your heart return my call
If you are not mine would I have the strength to stand at all

I'll never know whatthe future brings
But I know you're here with me now
We’ll make it through
And I hope you are the one I share my life with

I don’t want to run away but I can’t take it, I don’t understand
If I’m not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am?
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?

If I don’t need you then why am I crying on my bed?
If I don’t need you then why does your name resound in my head?
If you’re not for me then why does this distance maim my life?
If you’re not for me then why do I dream of you as my wife?

I don’t know why you’re so far away
But I know that this much is true
We’ll make it through
And I hope you are the one I share my life with
And I wish that you could be the one I die with
And I pray in you’re the one I build my home with
I hope I love you all my life

I don’t want to run away but I can’t take it, I don’t understand
If I’m not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?

‘Cause I miss you, body and soul so strong that it takes my breath away
And I breathe you into my heart and pray for the strength to stand today
‘Cause I love you, whether it’s wrong or right
And though I can’t be with you tonight
You know my heart is by your side

I don’t want to run away but I can’t take it, I don’t understand
If I’m not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am
Is there any way that I could stay in your arms

Bible Study / Be Slow to Anger
February 23, 2008, 03:44:03 PM
21 Mathew 5

You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, "You shall not kill; and who ever kills will be liable to judgment." But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, "Raqa," will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and who ever says, "You Fool," will be liable to fiery Gehenna. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.
#48239
God Bless you, Priscilla. May he protect you and keep you in all your days. The Lord watches everything, and I am sure Zach is happy and content with all your work for his family. I misjudged you in the past, Priscilla.

Forgive me for my brashness,

#48240
Mike, that is the reason why I did not include her surname, because she will find it here.
:P
#48241

Dear Andrea,

Your man is lucky, he holds you, he kisses you, he breathes you in,
I cannot tell you this face-to-face, however, I find you extremely and exceptionally attractive,
There is not a day that keep my guard with you, my walls crumble whenever our eyes meet
Your smile can break my chest plate, your laughter cracks my shield, and your touch dismantles my head gear
My lance rusts to oblivion

Your man is lucky, he holds you, he kisses you, he breathes you in,
I cannot tell this to you personally because you know how I am,
I fear my mouth, that it will give way to you finding out,

If you find this letter, then you know what I mean.

With words meant to be said, yet left unsaid,
-Bran

Never let a woman ruin you, Mike. It is evident that she doesn't deserve you, my friend. As men, we must hunt for the right one. Some fishes come with small fins, or lack any meat. Toss those away. There is always a bigger fish in the sea.
#48243
Dear J,

I'm sorry I did not ask you out to a second date. My apologies if I did not return your phone calls, and when I did not return your greetings. I cannot give you what you want. Pardon my iniquities for failing to provide your 'needs'.

There was a time that I liked you, but then I found out through word of mouth that you were seeing another man the same time we went out on our first date. Nothing else annoys me or turns me off than a cheating and deceiving woman.

Pardon me for being absolute. However, I do not associate with harlems.

Sincerely,
#48244
Dear R,

You never returned my mechanical pencil, in fact, you never return the things that you borrow from me. Pero okay ra man, because I know how much you love to bite pencils. Last time you returned a pencil, pero it was filled with teeth marks.

Next time you ask for another pencil, I will give you only a pen. Perhaps that way you won't bite it, unless you want ink all over your mouth. :P

Just kidding, you can bite any of my pencils, any time. Just don't fill it with teeth marks. Okay?

Five years from now, my vision of Tubag Bohol:

-that this will be regarded as the most respected and credible  forum ever in the Philippine history, reaching out all the Boholanos in every corner of the globe.

-that Tubag Bohol will become a corporation that would allow us to generate profit or contributions so we can embark on projects for the betterment of our dear Bohol  and to be able to give free services to our less fortunate people in Bohol i.e., Tubag Bohol Hospital or Tubag Bohol Orphanage.

-that Tubag Bohol will be where Google or Yahoo was when they were 10 years old in the industry! ;D

Regally said, Ate Ging.

Amen!

And there also a great philosopher by the name of Voltaire, a brilliant enlightenment thinker of the 18th century who uttered the unsurmountable plaques of human fraternity and universality, "I may not agree with what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it."

Bible Study / Reply: Internalizing the Proverbs
February 23, 2008, 02:24:45 AM
Earlier this week, I was a witness to a fight that occurred in Brooks Walk, which is the pathway that leads to the Campus center from Brooks Hall all the way down to the Weiss Center. I was walking in Brooks Walk and observed a couple fighting, it wasn't a regular fight, it was nefarious, to say the least. Both parties engrossed themselves in negative comments on one another, as if trying to destroy the other's feelings. There was one comment that the woman said to her partner, "I hope you die, you filthy _______". I don't know if you guys engage in such things, but I totally was affected by this because after the woman said that to her xbf, she left, and as soon as she left, I saw him cry. Such words, such filthy and hurtful words, should have never been said.

And as it reminded me a particular excerpt in the Book of Proverbs, that reminds us of evading such acts. That such words, can pierce the heart much stronger than a tip of a sword of a side of a cane.

Proverbs, Chapter 15 states:

A mild answer calms wrath,
but harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise pours out knowledge,
but the mouth of the fool spurts forth folly.
The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
keeping watch on the evil and the good.
A soothing tongue is a tree of life,
but a perverse one crushes the spirit.
The fool spurns his father's admonition,
but the prudent is he who heads reproof.
He who rejects admonition despises his own soul,
but he who heeds reproof gains understanding

The fear of the LORD is training for wisdom,
and humility goes BEFORE honors.

Peace be with you all.

Lyrics:

How can I just let you walk away
Just let you leave without a trace
When I stand here taking
Every breath with you oohhhh
You're the only one
Who really knew me at all

How can you just walk away from me
When all I can do is watch you leave
'Cause we've shared the laughter and the pain
And even shared the tears
You're the only one
Who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now
'Cause there's just an empty space
There's nothing left here to remind me
Just the memory of your face
So take a look at me now
'Cause there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me, is against the odds
And that's what I've got to faceeeee

I wish I could just make you turn around
Turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you
So many reasons why
You're the only one
Who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now
'Cause there's just an empty space
There's nothing left here to remind me
Just the memory of your face
So Take a look at me now
Cause there's just an empty space
But to wait for you is
All I can do
And that's what I've got to face.
Take a good look at me now
'Cause l'll still be standing (standing here)
And you coming back to me is against all odds
That's the chance I've got to take
(chance I got to take, got to takeeee)

Yeahhhhh
Take A look at me now

This one is very nostalgic, it has a pseudo-colloquialism feel to it.

When I hear this song, I see a man, an old man, sitting by the silent stream by the Susquehana River, as he dips his right feet into the stream, the sun, the red sun, begins to set. He looks to his right, as the wind carresses his face, the sun shining on him one last time. Memories, memories of old days long gone, words unsaid, feelings untold. In this old man.

Beautiful song, Mike.

Just shooting for decent marks, medicine topnotcher says

A combination of diligent review and tons of prayers proved to be the key for the Cebu-based medicine student to top this year's February Physician Licensure Examination.

Visayas-based Bombo Radyo reported Friday that Edilfabia Uy of Cebu Doctors University still could not believe she bested the 1,985 medicine students who took the licensure examination. Out of the total number of examinees who took the test, 1,985 passed.

Uy said she studied hard and - like many students taking licensure examinations - prayed hard for the exam, seeking the intervention of many saints, just to get decent marks in the test.

She said she did not expect to top the examination. Uy, 26, a resident of Tagbilaran in Bohol province and the eldest of three siblings, got an 86.33-percent rating.

"Ang mensahe ko sa mga kukuha ng exams sa susunod ay mag-aral ng mabuti, maniwala sa Diyos at magdasal palagi dahil wala namang imposible sa Kanya (My message to future examinees is to study hard and believe in God, and pray always. Nothing is impossible with God)," Uy said.

She said she plans to train in the United States as a specialist. - GMANews.TV

Congratulations and my Salute to Dr. Edilfabia Uy, M.D!

She attended the school that my uncle, Dr. Renee Lucino, M.D. graduated from.

after that skwela nasad ug nursing

Very untrue. There are many Filipino doctors who are practicing abroad who graduated medical school from the Philippines. My uncle is an example, who is currently based in the U.K. Another Filipino, Dr. Dioscoro Villanueva, M.D, who is the leading Cardio thoracic Surgeon in Southern New Jersey, is a graduate of the University of the Philippines School of Medicine, has trained hundreds of American-medical students and medical surgical interns.

To be exact, there are over 20,000 Filipino physicians in the United States, all of them graduated from the Philippines. This is not including or counting the thousands of Filipino-American physicians.

Not all physicians in the Philippines go back to nursing.
Thousands are being recruited to the US every year. They recruit only the best, and this Dr. Uy is surely one of the best. :)
