The Catholic Church is progressive and successful because Christ Jesus Himself told to Peter, the First Pope of the Roman Catholic Church;

Matthew 16:13-20. Here, Jesus asked the question, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" The Apostles responded, "Some say John the Baptizer, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." Our Lord then turned to them and point-blank asked them, "And you, who do you say that I am?"

St. Peter, still officially known as Simon, replied, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Our Lord recognized that this answer was grace-motivated: "No mere man has revealed this to you, but My heavenly Father."

Because of this response, our Lord said to St. Peter, "You are 'Rock,' and on this rock I will build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." The name change itself from Simon to Peter indicates the Apostle being called to a special role of leadership; recall how Abram's name was changed to Abraham, or Jacob's to Israel, or Saul's to Paul, when each of them was called to assume a special role of leadership among God's people.

The word "rock" also has special significance. On one hand, to be called "rock" was a Semitic expression designating the solid foundation upon which a community would be built. For instance, Abraham was considered "rock" because he was the father of the Jewish people (and we refer to him as our father in faith) and the one with whom the covenant was first made.

On the other hand, no one except God was called specifically "rock," nor was it ever used as a proper name except for God. To give the name "rock" to St. Peter indicates that our Lord entrusted to him a special authority. Some antipapal parties try to play linguistic games with the original Greek Gospel text, where the masculine-gender word "petros," meaning a small, moveable rock, refers to St. Peter while the feminine-gender word "petra," meaning a massive, immoveable rock, refers to the foundation of the Church. However, in the original Aramaic language, which is what Jesus spoke and which is believed to be the original language of St. Matthew's Gospel, the word "Kepha," meaning rock, would be used in both places without gender distinction or difference in meaning. The gender problem arises when translating from Aramaic to Greek and using the proper form to modify the masculine word "Peter" or feminine word "Church."

"The gates of hell" is also an interesting Semitic expression. The heaviest forces were positioned at gates; so this expression captures the greatest warmaking power of a nation. Here this expression refers to the powers opposed to what our Lord is establishing-the Church. (A similar expression is used in reference to our Lord in Acts 2:24: "God freed Him from the bitter pangs of hell, however, and raised Him up again, for it was impossible that death should keep its hold on Him.") Jesus associated St. Peter and his office so closely with Himself that He became a visible force protecting the Church and keeping back the power of hell.

Second, Jesus says, "I will entrust to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven." In the Old Testament, the "number two" person in the Kingdom literally held the keys. In Isaiah 22: 19-22 we find a reference to Eliakim, the master of the palace of King Hezekiah (2 Kings 18:17ff) and keeper of the keys. As a sign of his position, the one who held the keys represented the king, acted with his authority and had to act in accord with the king's mind. Therefore, St. Peter and each of his successors represent our Lord on this earth as His Vicar and lead the faithful flock of the Church to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Finally, Jesus says, "Whatever you declare bound on earth shall be bound in heaven; whatever you declare loosed on earth shall be loosed in heaven." This is rabbinic terminology. A rabbi could bind, declaring an act forbidden or excommunicating a person for serious sin; or a rabbi could loose, declaring an act permissible or reconciling an excommunicated sinner to the community.

Here, Christ entrusted a special authority to St. Peter to preserve, interpret and teach His truth. In all, this understanding of Matthew 16 was unchallenged until the Protestant leaders wanted to legitimize their rejection of papal authority and the office of the pope. Even the Orthodox Churches recognize the pope as the successor of St. Peter; however, they do not honor his binding jurisdiction over the whole Church but grant him a position of "first among equals."

St. Peter's role in the New Testament further substantiates the Catholic belief concerning the papacy and what Jesus said in Matthew 16. St. Peter held a preeminent position among the Apostles. He is always listed first (Mt. 10:14; Mk. 3:16-19; Lk. 6:14-1 5; Acts 1:13) and is sometimes the only one mentioned (Lk. 9:32). He speaks for the Apostles (Mt. 18:21; Mk. 8:28; Lk. 12:41; Jn. 6:69).

World Daily News / Sri Vijayan Empire
March 03, 2008, 05:07:11 AM
Sri Vijaya, which is Malay for Shining Victory. Sri means "shining" or "radiant" and vijaya means "victory" or "excellence".

Sri Vijaya was an empire that based its power on the island of Sumatra which influenced much of the Malay Archipelago. Records of its beginning are scarce while estimations range from the 3rd to 5th centuries CE. The empire's political control was centered around Sumatra, and controlled local rajas in Java, Sulawesi, Borneo and parts of southern-central Philippines. Sri Vijaya was a loose-based naval empire; not engaging in massive military conflict, but engaging control through economic trade.

In the world of commerce, Srivijaya rapidly rose to be a far-flung empire controlling the two passages between India and China, namely the Sunda Strait from Palembang and the Malacca straits from Kedah. Arab accounts state that the empire of the maharaja was so vast that in two years the swiftest vessel could not travel round all its islands, which produced camphor, aloes, cloves, sandal-wood, nutmegs, cardamom and crubebs, ivory, gold and tin, making the maharaja as rich as any king in the Indies.

World Daily News / The Holy Roman Empire
March 03, 2008, 04:50:52 AM
The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation

otherwise known in Latin as: Sacrum Romanum Imperium Nationis Germaniae
or in German as: Heiliges Römisches Reich deutscher Nation

The Holy Roman Empire (1st Reich) colored in dark green.

The Holy Roman Empire was a union of territories in Central Europe during the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period under the authority of the Holy Roman Emperor. Although the first Holy Roman Emperor was considered to be Charlemagne, crowned on 25 December 800, the continuous line of emperors began only with Otto the Great in 962. The last was Francis II, who abdicated and dissolved the Empire in 1806 during the Napoleonic Wars. It was officially known as the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation from the late 15th century onwards.

The Empire's territorial extent varied over its history, but at its peak it encompassed the territories of present-day Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Belgium, and the Netherlands as well as large parts of modern Poland, France and Italy. For much of its history the Empire consisted of hundreds of smaller kingdoms, principalities, duchies, counties, Free Imperial Cities, and other domains. Despite its name, the Holy Roman Empire never included Rome within its borders.

What makes the Holy Roman Empire rather unique is that the empire was never 'Roman', the language used in the empire was not Latin, but a shared form of Gaulic-Visigoth (an early form of French and German). And the Holy Roman Empire never ruled over the city of Rome. What is intriguing is that the Germanic people that ruled the Holy Roman Empire were the decendents of the early Visigoths and Ostrogoths that invaded the old Roman Empire in the 4th century AD and led to the capitulation of the Roman Empire. 5 centuries later, the same barbarian Visigoths and Ostrogoths took up the identity of the conquored Western Roman Empire.

This is a form of cultural dominance. Where the Barbarian takes up the superior culture of the conquored Romans and claims it as theirs; thereby it manifests the barbarian's 'civility' by merging its identity with the Roman Culture. Thereby pronouncing the Roman Empire's continual existence within the minds of its former subjects; surviving not as a political power, but by purely a theologic, teleologic and cultural construct. Which transcends the physical, to the metaphysical.

World Daily News / The Byzantine Empire
March 03, 2008, 04:40:02 AM
Immediately after the fall of the Western Roman Empire to the Visigoths (a Germanic vanguard), the splintered eastern half of the Roman Empire survived, due to its bustling economy and organized military forces. The Eastern Roman Empire was revamped and re-named Imperium Byzantium, latin for the Byzantine Empire.

The Empire lasted from 400AD till the fall of Constantinople, the empire's capital, to the invading Ottoman turks in the mid 15th century.

The Byzantine Empire is colored in light yellow. Its seat of power is present day Istanbul, then called Constantinople.

World Daily News / Re: The Empires of the World
March 03, 2008, 04:30:43 AM
What is an Empire?

A: An Empire is a state that extends dominion over populations distinct culturally and ethnically from the culture/ethnicity at the center of power. Scholars still debate about what exactly constitutes an empire, and other definitions may emphasize economic or political factors.

Like other states, an empire maintains its political structure at least partly by coercion. Land-based empires (such as the Mongol Empire or the Achaemenid Persia) tend to extend in a contiguous area; sea-borne empires, also known as thalassocracies (the Athenian, Portuguese and the British empires provide examples), may feature looser structures and more scattered territories.

Empires predate the Romans by dozens of centuries: for example, the Akkadian Empire of Sargon of Akkad was the earliest model of a far-flung, land-based empire, founded in the 24th century BC. The New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, at one point in time another major force of the ancient Near East, was established as a loosely defined empire in the 15th century BC under Thutmose III by further invading and then incorporating Nubia and the ancient city-states of the Levant. It is worth mentioning, however, that these early models of imperialism lacked effective and administrative control of their conquered territories.

Empire contrasts with the example of a federation, where a large or small multi-ethnic state - or even an ethnically homogeneous one â€" relies on mutual agreement amongst its component political units which retain a high degree of autonomy. Additionally, one can compare physical empires with potentially more abstract or less formally structured hegemonies in which the sphere of influence of a single political unit (such as a city-state) dominates a culturally unified area politically or militarily. A second side of this same coin shows in potentially inherent tactics of divide and conquer by different factions ("the enemy of my enemy is my friend") and central intervention for the greater whole's benefit.

I'm not really sure, 'te. You'd have to ask a physician for a concrete answer.

Pero from anatomy courses, all I know is that thyroid disorders are due to chemical imbalances (in this case thyroxin activity and metabolic activity). Everything is interrelated; im sure with proper chemical therapy, one can be 'normal'. Pero it is usually impossible to be completely 'cured'.

Chemical imbalances are a manifestation of genetic, more so chromasomatic degeneracy. It is part of aging, and or autoimmune attack.

Pero, if i were you id ask multiple physicians for their opinion.
They are the final guys on this.

Sige 'te, i hope i helped a bit.

Thats a good life motto to live by, Ate Ging. "Free as a bird" :D
I can't help but get tuned in to a schedule, class, teach lab, eat, gym, sleep, (and TBing whenever im in lab/desk). And even TBing is becoming a schedule for me, its like my therapy; a way for me to release stress and anxiety of work and class. It helps, and it has been invaluable for me. The only time that I can seriously claim a time for myself is prayer. When I randomly just out of no where would walk out of my dorm and drive to church at night and visit. Sit inside and meditate and pray.

For me that is my free time. When I totally just give time for myself and Him. No one else matters then. Just me and the Big Guy upstairs. Love it.

BAD experience.

Lyrics:
The only girl I've ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive
One evening 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she's a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sun
All sing to say my dream has come

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And now we ride the circus wheel
With your dark brother wrapped in white
Says it was good to be alive
But now he rides a comet's flame
And won't be coming back again
The Earth looks better from a star
That's right above from where you are
He didn't mean to make you cry
With sparks that ring and bullets fly
On empty rings around your heart
The world just screams and falls apart

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And here's where your mother sleeps
And here is the room where your brothers were born
Indentions in the sheets
Where their bodies once moved but don't move anymore
And it's so sad to see the world agree
That they'd rather see their faces fill with flies
All when I'd want to keep white roses in their eyes

I love this song, no, love is an understatement. I utterly adore this song, I revel in this song.
Deep. Death does not sever love, Death increases its intensity. As distance, despite the state of existance, makes the heart fonder.

This is a deep song, its a requiem for the happy dead.

There is a deep story in this song, about the life of Anne Frank, written in 3rd person view.

Valencia - Bohol / Re: The Folktales of Valencia
March 02, 2008, 10:50:44 AM
Another folk tale was popular among the fishermen of Valencia.

Sa unang panahon, the fishermen would go out together to catch schools of fish, and sometimes shark, pero there is a reason why fishermen would fish in groups and there was 2-3 fishermen per boat.

Apparently, during pre-spanish days, it was common for fishermen to disappear from their boats. I forget the bisaya word, but Lolo said kono that there were mermaids that would taunt fishermen, and when the fishermen were unaware, the mermaid would grab their hands. Bring them under the sea until the fisherman drowned.

Mao na sa una, it was discouraged kono to fish by yourself or when it was dark, because the mermaids were active at night.

When fishermen go fishing in groups, or whenever they are out at night, it is custom to throw a fish or two in the water as tribute to the mermaids. So dili sila mo bother sa fisherman.

It is already said raba, 'te, that we should not try to commune with the dead or through mediums or use magic. The Lord God, The Most High, even decreed this to the prophets. The Angel of the Lord God told prophets of the old testament to evade using sorcery because those are the mediums of demons, and are toys of the Devil, most unclean, most dirty, most unholy, the Great Liar of the Flood.

Some references from Holy Scripture:

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try [test] the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (2) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: (3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. (4) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (5) They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. (6) We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error."
-1 John 4:1

More:

Leviticus 19:31 - Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 20:6 - The person who turns after mediums and familiar spirits, God says He would set His face against that person and cut him off from his people.

Leviticus 20:27 - A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones.

Revelation 21:8 - But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

Exodus 7-9; read 8:18,19 - Pharaoh's magicians and sorcerers tried to duplicate the signs and plagues God caused through Moses and Aaron (7:11,22; 8:7,8,18; 9:11). For a while they seemed to achieve a limited succeed. But soon they failed and admitted Moses had the power of God.
