The dollar will bounce up as soon as the economy stabilizes itself. Fluctuations are regular and part of economic trends, rise, fall, then rise again. The cause of the Dollar's purchasing power decrease is due to the housing troubles this last fiscal quarter, and the non-stop spending in the Iraq War. America spends 5 billion dollars a day to fight this war (this is more than the defense spending of many countries; what the American military spends in a day, nations spend in a year).

Any nation that would have been in our situation would have felt the same situation. It is only due to America's 13+ Trillion Dollar Economy that we are able to carry this load as well as keep on domestic policies. Once this war is ended and military spending normalizes, we will see a balancing out of this economic trend.

How can the American Economy remain poor? We have over 300 Million citizens, with each paying taxes. With that, theoretically, with the average American making $45,000, the country generates an economy of 13, 500,000,000,000.00 (13.5 Trillion Dollars) a year.

So long as there are jobs, there is money. So long as the population increases, there will be more taxes paid. Money is of no concern for this country, there is always money. The concern is the way political administrations SPEND that money. There must be laws followed, and checks and balances to control the power of an executive. We must remind ourselves that this is a Republic. Not a Dictatorship.

I pray the people of Nepal see the truth and oneness of Christ. Not this kind of religion.

I pray for them.

Of course America is. We're living in the 21st century, where women make up a large percentage of the work force, where minorities are fully integrated. Being 'American' is not reserved for those who are white-caucasian. American citizenship and Americanism transcends that. To be American is to believe in the ideals of this nation, in our constitution and fighting for it. One doesn't need to be white to acclimate to it.

Obama and Clinton have gained massive supporters, in the millions, carrying many states. If America wasn't ready for a woman and a minority, then support would have gone to the Republican caucus.

In my opinion, it is long overdue in having a minority or woman president.

And I'm a Filipino. A brown man.

Color has nothing to do with politics, nor does it have anything to do with the dictation of politics and the health of our American Nation.

It is only a concern for racists that refuse to rise up from their ignorance. per se segregationists, neo-nazis. But those are right wing fringists. They do not represent the continuum of America.
#47705
It has nothing to do with that at all.

Barak Obama has been part of the same Baptist Church for 20 years.

Obama has himself denied being a Muslim, time and time again.
"Let's make clear what the facts are: I am a Christian. I have been sworn in with a Bible. I pledge allegiance [to the American flag] and lead the pledge of allegiance sometimes in the United States Senate when I'm presiding."

Mr Obama is a member of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ and is an actively practising Christian. But opponents, particularly on the Republican side, delight in reminding people that his middle name is Hussein, taken from his father, a Harvard educated economist who left the family when Mr Obama was two.

And a rumor it is. Barak Obama is a Christian.

False rumors like this are nothing more than bipartisan dirty politics to deface the man's name.
Please don't engage in rumors. It is how lies are started.

I had to contain myself from shouting, 'te.

The scientist debator was calm, relaxed, and presented facts, raw data to the audience.
The political scientist debator was argumentative, relying on his passions to control his mouth.
He didn't address the cold raw facts, rather he attacked the scientific community as being 'Godless' etc. Which was totally out of topic and a violation of debate decorum. He was attacking the audience, and the pro-Global Warming debator, accusing him of making the data. On the contrary, the debator provided sources from science think tanks, form NASA, and even from the Department of the Interior, Environmen and Energy.

The accusor's face was agape. It was hilarious to see how he changed topic immediately.

All of his points were refuted. And in the end, before time ran off, the entire Science community rose from our chairs and thundered our applause for our debator. Our claps echoed in the entire auditorium.
Suffice to say that the same things that the opposing debator mentioned is mentioned in this thread. Most of which are unfounded; relying not on facts, and evidence, but by human deniability.

What is good about science is that it does not deny. It provides or it breaks the old assumptions of the past. It provides answers where there were questions. Many people, in ignorance, would prefer to live in denial than recognize the truth--which is the antithesis of their views. Its called 'giving up'.

A foolish endeavor.
#47718
I share with you on that, Ate Ging.

America is ready for a president that represents the masses.
America is no longer a protestant bible belt nation, nor is it a purely white nation.

America is a nation of multi-ethnicities, multi-cultures, multi-religions. The demographics of this nation, this Federal Republic, ushers, nay, it declares it so! Almost 30% of this nation is minority, or biracial. And growing. Estimates show that by 2060, these United States will no longer be a traditionally 'white' nation.  But a nation of worldly origin. Over half of the population of the United States will be minority, with a 'new' brand of ideas, and goals for our Republic.

The days of Imperialist policies, where the Eagle unleashed its claws wherever she flew to, is coming to a  close. The Mighty Eagle cannot open her wings of war all the time, and we have learned from that, in this conflict in Iraq. America is not 'All Invincible' as what many of our compatriots believe, our wars are expensive, and it costs us Billions of Dollars to fund a war machine. As we fight a war abroad, thousands of our soldiers are killed and maimed, however, because of such extrapolaritic policies, most of our attention is focused abroad. By this, we alienate our domestic poor, our children, our elderly.

This Bush Administration has totally forgotten about the 40 MILLION Americans that live without health insurance, most of whom are children and elderly. The rising poor, the homeless, the environmental policies. While the world surges ahead on progressive ideals. Our administration would rather spend billions of dollars to fund an unecessary war, that PROFITS only the rich who are involved in the war industry. The average American, the tax paying American and the Youth of America bear the burden of this war. It has always been the common theme for this nation.

The point is, we should not send our boys and girls off to war at mere discretion for the purposes of flexing our muscle. There is no need for that. Yes, the world saw how Iraq buckled in 2 weeks, Yes the world saw the raw force of the American Armed Forces, our navy, our air force, our army. However, controlling a nation by force is not the answer. We learned from this before, 100 years earlier. In the Philippines. Where the Untied States utilized 'Indian Hunting' tactics on Filipinos. Millions of Filipinos died in that conflict, and learned that using force was not winning the American cause for the Filipino masses.
On the contrary, it only increased intensities and regional wars.

America won the Philippine War due to humanitarian aid AND wiping out the entire Rebellion.

She should learn from this, and instead of bombing civilian centers, build more schools, provide aid, secure the borders in Iraq to prevent extremists from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc from coming in the country.

The Obama/Clinton side addresses these issues. They show case a more diplomatic mission that will win over support to the American caucus from World Powers.

They will right the wrong the Bush Administration procured for us.
Let us hope and pray, that Providence blesses this Great Nation with a stern, compassionate and able leader. One that examplifies what it means to be an American. And not some war mongering Imperialist Dog.

American MUST learn from the mistakes of Rome.
If we WISH to survive. Rome Fell due to her CONSTANT wars.
Rome ALIENATED the world. Where do WE stand on this?

There was actually a debate on campus on the topic of :

Global Warming or Human Myth?

Its suffice to say that Quigley Hall, where the debate was located, was packed. Over half of the attendees were hard science majors, including myself. The others were economy majors, religious studies majors, liberal arts majors, and many citizens of the surrounding town, Meadville. The debater arguing against Global Warming had his case completely obliterated by the debator for Global Warming, who happened to be a friend and colleague of mine, a Biochemistry major.

The winner of the debate was thundered on by the congratulatorial claps of his fellow scientists.

The opponent left the scene, defeated, every single argument of his being crushed.

What can I say? When PhD doctoral students crush one another in debates, its quite entertaining as well as educational. Academia in its rawest form.  :)

Its a tough race, both of them are neck-to-neck in Texas.

Who will it be? It is up to the people to decide, and this is what makes the American Democracy a success. Each vote, makes a difference in the preliminaries, primaries and the Presidential run. Is the American people ready for a minority president? A woman president or does America want to stay with the old hardcore policies of the aged generation?

Let the people decide.

Old Roman sayings illustrate the discourse of the nigh,
"Salus populi suprema est lex! Cui bono?"

This is so sad, Mike. It seems to me that where ever we go, those with power will always take advantage of the poor. Be they from Imperial Manila, Cebu-Visayas, or even in Muslim Mindanao.

Salt, or chemically known as Sodium Chloride, NaCl is a simple compound but due to its simplicity, a very stable one.

It has been pivotal for the mastery of Man-Kind of this world for the past 100,000 years.
Our understanding of apothecary, pre-modern Chemistry/Pharmacy, traces back to its origin.

God's many blessings to Man. Salt. :)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahah "Duty" LOL!

God Bless your Papa, 'te! Very tactical man diay siya hahahaha!

My dad is like that, kanang term i like to use is 'task master' hahaha. Pero one thing i liked about hiluting my dad as a child is that he always bought me a toy or something after i was done. I see the same thing with Andre and Don. After they hilut him, mo adto jud sa video game store or toy store. LoL

Pero i think my dad likes the hiluting because its a bonding experience for him with the kids. Kai we still serve him pa man, and a way for us to be with our father, because usually he is very retiscent, he is not a bugul-bugul type. Very strict kaayo--or what my mom jokes about to him, "Old-school imung Dad!" LOL

If you have a spare time waiting for your flight to Tagbilaran from Manila, there's a corner there where blind people give massage for a minimal charge.  I always fool myself into thinking that I would be helping those blind people earn a money by having myself a massage from them. ;)  They are so good!

hahahahahahahaha!

'te! lol

Is this like a common Filipino trait of fathers or something? LoL

Whenever dad asks us to hilut it starts with me, then after im done, he gets my my sister to massage his feet, then after she's done, DonDon does the same thing I do, then after Don is done, Andre tries to help pood, but Dad only calls him so he can 'higda' with him, LOL. He forces Andre to sleep with him despite Andre's toy in his hand. hahahaha. Luuy pood.

My first flight I ever went on by myself, was going to Arizona. It was a little scary at first, but with the help of many flight attendants everything was smooth flying from there on. When my parents took me to the airport I almost cried and almost decided not to go by my self. I was 10 years old. My flight to Arizona took almost 12 hours and had 2 stop over.
When I was inside the airplane I cant help it but cried because I miss my Mom and Dad. I saw my Mom cried too when she kissed me goodbye. I traveled first class back and fourth. The scary thing was when I arrived in Phoenix no one was there to pick me up at the airport, but eventually 1 hour later my Grandpa and Grandma both showed up after the flight attendant called their names on the intercom. Grandma thought that they will meet me at the baggage claim area but the flight attendant wont let me go out until my grandma showed up at counter area, my cellphone was low battery. I was speechless when I saw my Grandpa and Grandma, I thought I was lost and I still misses my Mom and Dad.
Coming back home is another story. I want my Mom and Dad to pick me up in Arizona. I cried every night after talking to my Mom and Dad on the phone and Mom cried too, we both miss each other. It was a wrong time to leave my Mom because she was so depressed after having a miscarried but we already planed my vacation way ahead. When I left in Arizona I cried too because I miss my Grandpa and my Grandma. I was stocked in Seattle airport for 6 hours oh scary but the airport have a special room for un attended minors, I have my own flight attendant with me all the times, very helpful lady we watch 2 movie, gave me lots of snacks and played games until it was time to board the plane.
Finally I arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska safe and sound! This is my story!

How about yours?

Hey, i felt pretty sad about you leaving your mom, little bro. Yea its always scary the first time we leave our parents, but you're such a strong kid thats why you were able to do it. :D

I can remember the first my mom left me and my sister, Kyle. It was hard because this was like in 1990, and my dad was still working in Saudi Arabia as an Engineer so we only got to see him probably 1 month a year, so whenever he left for Saudi, I was still probably 4 and my sister was only 3 years old; and it was already regular for this to occur. (I can remember one time when he was getting ready again to go back to Saudi--packed his things in his suit case and I didn't want him to go raba, he told me that he'll get me more lego toys ug mo adto siya sa Saudi, pero i didnt want the toys, I just wanted my Dad to be with us--lol, my logic at the time was very limited as a child. I decided to pack my clothes pood in a small suite case and by the time my dad got his things ready in the living room--my things were already ready. hahahaha. He said to me, "Mo asa man diay ka, doy" (where are you going, son"?) ingoon ko "Gusto ko mo kuyug, Daddy" (i want to go with you, daddy). :P I still remember that, you know. And my dad tells me that story, he always cries. :P
It was also hard because that same year he left again, my mom left for the USA for nursing. O god it was so bad, because my little sister was a very 'mommy's girl' and I was close to mommy. I remember us kids crying and the yayas keeping us quiet after she left. Whenever she called back from the 'states, my little sister would ask her on the phone, "Mommy, mommy, mo balika na ka, mommy?" {mommy, when are you coming home?}. sus luuy pood ahong igsoon, because she would always cry, she was only 3 years old. She would take my mommy's dastir {a house dress} and hold it when she went to sleep. Thats how she missed our mommy.

Pero thank god, by 1991, we were able to go to the US. Thanks to President Bush Sr's 'family act' allowing foreign workers to bring family to the states. So our family was united. It was the first time i took the plane, i went with my dad, mom and my little sister. The experience was fun jud, the take off was exciting, though the food wasn't the best. Me and my sister were just happy to be with our mommy and daddy. Nothing else mattered.

And now, they added 2 little brothers for me and my sister to care after ;)
What more can a big brother want? hahahaha :P

To add your story Cel (kay naa na bitaw ka OK ani ni Bil hahaha), dihay party sa school ni smiffy na "important of special person" day ba kaha to, Sa same table nko, dihay duha ka Pinay ladies.  They were talking in Tagalog.  Dayon I smiled and said hello, nah gi tan aw lang ko sa duha ka manghak like wa kasabot sa akong gi sulti. Wa jud ko nila pansina the whole time.  So pwes, lain na lang akong ka storya.  hehehehe

Actually since you brought this up, it reminded me about an incident here on campus. The area where my college is located is in Northwestern pennsylvania, a region where it is predominantly white-american. Little to no minorities in the town, and the student body is 96% white, 4% minority, so its quite common for all the asian students to know each other. When I first matriculated to Allegheny College in the Fall of 2004, most of the faculty knew that I was Filipino, and one of my Professors introduced me to the Director of Pelletier Library, who is a Filipina. When I first met her her eyes lit up, apparently because she has lived in the town for over 20 years and there is probably 2-3 Filipino families in town (a town of over 30,000 people). Respectfully, I greeted her in Tagalog and spoke to her in my limited Tagalog (I guess she assumed I was Tagalog when I did this, as she was from Quezon region). So one time our conversations were about Cebu (she didn't know i was from the visayas this time, as she never asked where i was from), pero she started making rude comments about Bisaya people; she made these comments mostly about how 'ignorante' Bisayans are. She was saying this  during the Phi Si ceremonies (an Honors fraternity for high GPA students), I was inducted as an honorary member and she was there because she was one of the faculty directors. So when I got my award, as well as selected for Dean's List, I was ecstatic. I remember saying to her, "Tita, hindi ka alam pero taga Visayas ako, hindi tanan mga Bisayano 'ignorante'. Hindi talaga." We still talk, pero she does not even look at my eyes whenever I greet her.

I personally don't like stereotypes.
And these stereotypes of how Bisayan people are 'ignorante' is a flat lie.
Most of the Filipino Physicians/Surgeons are Bisayan.

A more correct stereotype would be how Bisayans are Intelligent.

The multiporality of Garlic,

There is a garlic proteinase drug called: Allium sativum L, which is taken Orally.

Its uses in controlling/aiding:
used for the hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), high cholesterol (blood lipids), circulation problems (peripheral vascular disease) and the common cold (upper respiratory tract infections).

#47760
Associations with cancer:

Scant data, primarily from case-control studies, suggest, but do not prove, dietary garlic consumption is associated with decreased odds of laryngeal, gastric, colorectal, and endometrial cancer and adenomatous colorectal polyps. Single case-control studies suggest, but do not prove, dietary garlic consumption is not associated with breast or prostate cancer. No epidemiological study has assessed whether using particular types of garlic supplements is associated with reductions in cancer incidence. Preliminary 3-year evidence from a large cohort study suggests consumption of "any" garlic supplement does not reduce risk of breast, lung, colon, or gastric cancer. This study has not reported associations relevant to consumption of fresh or raw garlic, and its data about supplements are limited because information is not available about different types and brands of garlic supplementations.

hahaha, really lil bro?

I can count how many times I've embarassed my friends when we would go to the mall as a group. And out of no where, I'd put this song on and pump the volume to the max and roll down the windows. So whenever there was a red light, people next to us would stare, LOL.
Hilarious, hilarious. Good times that make everything worthwhile.

As an addition to this research,

There has been on-going research  on the possibility of garlic protein being utilized to inhibit carcinoma cells; tested on laboratory rats. Will add more results data as soon as I finish talking to a colleague about it.

Amazing isn't it?

The Bohol Chronicle

Are "Exorcism" and "spiritual possession" only seen in the movies? Can it be real these days?

Who would have thought what Mons. Medroso of the Tagbilaran diocese described as "phenomenon" would occur in this high-tech information age?

These mind-boggling questions relative to "phenomenon" have stirred the peace-loving residents of barangay Hanopol, Balilihan; Bayawahan, Sevilla; and Anoling, Candijay. Many believe the students were "possessed."

Bishop Medroso, in an interview with the DyRD last week, said that the Catholic Church would not jump to conclusion on what really happened to the "possessed." He practically stressed that the "phenomenon" should be examined. The Church has been very careful on this case or any other religious specter.

The latest to occur was in Anoling High School, Anoling, Candijay town last week. Seventeen students have manifested "spiritual possession," source said.

Several high school students of barangay Bayawahan, Sevilla town also experienced the same "phenomenon," said Sevilla information officer Walter Pondoc during the meeting of the Association of United Development Information Officers (AUDIO) recently. The "phenomenon" is blamed on the so-called unseen tree dwellers.

The same occurred to students of Hanopol High School, Balilihan town sometime late last year, taking into account a big acacia tree.

This writer tried to contact barangay captain Sancho Cagampang of Anoling for comment but failed.

Lately, the "manifestations" have subsided, said the source who declined to be named.

Manifestations include uttering of words that can hardly be understood. Calming down the victims by putting rosary around the neck aggravates the seizure. And the "possessed" resisted and fight back, said Pondoc.

Even police officers and military men stationed in barangay Bayawahan, including Pondoc, tried hold back the victims but there were strong resistance. No way to pacify the victim, he said.

Candijay source said that Rev. Fr. Rey Omamalin also tried to help the victims.

However, manifestations persisted (w/ reports from Danny Reyes)

naka witnessed najud ko ing-ani nga scene... promise...

Els, we experienced a powerful event, a Holy and Humbling event when I and some friends attended a Youth Retreat for the Catholic Diocese of Erie County some years back.

It was an Eucharistic Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament, The Parcelate of Christ Jesus.
I personally felt it. Ang effect is your head being cleansed, confusion was removed from my mind,
A feeling of TOTAL happiness. TOTAL content. I remember CRYING, tears were falling out of my eyes after experiencing it. Beautiful. Words cannot explain it jud.

It was like this event jud.

The devil and his demons try to test the faith of those who are faithful to the word of God. It is their form of defying and mocking God, by attacking his faithful. Even tho we may be tempted or even possessed by the devil's demons, the Lord God, who sitteth on His Divine Throne is not blind or deaf to such transgressions. His Mercies are there, every pain, every temptation we feel, he also feels. So long as we call on Him, He is there.

For who is stronger? The liar Devil and his deceiving demons or the Righteous and Pure Justice and Absolute Love that is The Lord God? Who Made Everything. The Devil and Demons are able and permitted to have such power, the same power they had when they were still angels, because the Lord allows free will. We are free to accept His Truth and His Salvaton, or be blinded by the lies of the Devil.

There is no 'Middle Ground' there is no 'Agnostic' when it comes to this.

When one rejects The Lord, then you unwhitingly invite the Devil and his legions of demons.

Sure it is natural for us to fear the Devil and his unnatural power, but put your Trust in the Lord.
#47794
Elsie, thanks for sharing your personal experiences.
They call that 'speaking in tongues'.
Ive witnessed this before when I attended a Catholic Youth Retreat several years back.
When we were reciting the apostle's creed and the benediction to the Blessed Crucifix on the Altar.
Where some of the youth would collapse, and rise up crying.
I felt it before, where our eyes were focused on the Holy Sacrament, and you could see a light coming out, piercing us not only physically but spiritually.

Very rare is this experience, Elsie.

This is what they call the 'touching' of the faithful by the hand of the Holy Spirit, the Lord God.

Yes 'te because taking a life, either it is born or unborn, is a sin.

Life, is of God. Life comes from God. A child is a blessing and a gift from God.

To take life, in any circumstance is a sin.
