July 31, 2008, 04:27:41 PM
Congratulation to AJ Banal! Despite that he lost in the latest fight, we can say that he reached the highest peak of his boxing career. He fought  the best of his ability. It is said that there is no success with out loss. Still he is young  and many more chances and  hopes.

From  his kababata, kaparyentehan, kaibigan from Corella, Bohol and to all the Filipinos, we are proud of you.

[edit] History
In the early days, Digos was a watercourse, a meeting place of inhabitants belonging to the Austronesians settled along the southern foothills of Mt. Apo. The Digos River meets the Davao Gulf and it is ideal for fishing and bathing.

During the Spanish Era, a group of natives carrying bows and arrows were approached by some Spaniards traversing the very fertile tracks of land in Davao. One Lopez Jaena Pacheco, a conquistador during the administration of Governor Claveria serving as the head of the group, inquired about the name of the place from the barefooted natives. Believing that the Spaniards were asking where they were bound to, the natives answered "Padigos", which means "to take a bathe". Since then the place was identified as Digos.

As a portion of the "food bowl" of the province of Davao del Sur, otherwise known as the Padada Valley, Digos lured many migrants, majority of whom came from the Visayas and Ilocos regions to settle permanently in the area. Before World War II, an enterprising American by the name of N.E. Crumb leased 10.24 km² and transformed the place into an Abaca Plantation. This became the hub of economic activity in the locality during those days.

Digos was occupied by the Japanese troops in 1942.

In 1945, through the brave efforts of the combined forces of the Philippine Army, the local guerilla units from the Davao peninsula, and the United States military, the Japanese soldiers were defeated.

Through the initiation of then Congressman Apolinario Cabigon, Digos, became a regular municipality in 1949 by virtue of Presidential Executive Order No. 236, dated July 19, 1949 issued by President Quirino. Its Coverage included the barrios of Tres de Mayo, Goma Bansalan, Matanao, Darapuay and the Poblacion where the seat of government was located. Before its creation into a municipality, Digos was a barrio of Sta. cruz, a town 16 kilometers away. On 19 July 1949, the town was formally inaugurated with Benito Rabor appointed as Mayor.

Digos in later years, before its conversion into a city, was regarded as the capital town of the Province of Davao del Sur, long before it gained the status of a First Class Municipality in 1993, being center for trade, commerce and education, accruing to its strategic location at the cross point of two principal thoroughfares in the south.

In July 1998, the bid to convert into a city was moved and initiated by Hon. Mayor Arsenio A. Latasa, considering its very satisfactory qualificationas required for in R.A. 7160

House Bill No. 5672 dated November 24, 1998 of Congress authored by Hon. Congressman Douglas Ra. Cagas, led to the drafting of Republic Act 8798, converting the Municipality of Digos into a component City of Davao del Sur, which was signed by President Joseph E. Estrada on July 14, 2000 and ratified by the Digoseños on September 8, 2000.

      FIREFLIES
                                    by fdaray

                       Glitter and glitter little fireflies,
Like stars in the moonless night.
Twinkle and twinkle  in  their flights,
So beautiful and pleasing to the eyes.
I caught one and placed in the light,
I wonder why  it is not hot.
I brought it back in the dark,
                       It again sparks and sparks.
                       They hide during the day,
Because, they are hunted for prey.
They flies only in the night,
                       To  display their sparkling lights.
                       They shouldn't be called fireflies,
                       Strange creatures, didn't carry fire.

 DREAM
                               by fdaray

Dream is like a falling star
That vanishes  in the glimpse of an eye.
Dream is like a morning dew
That dries when the sun rises.
Dream is like a scenty roses
                That falls and wither.
Dream is like a mighty storm
                That blows and suddenly calm.
Dream is like the sinking sun
                That disappears in the west.
                Dream is a vision
                That man wishes to achieve.
A dream with a strong determination
Will lead and bring  to  success.

      LIFE
by fdaray

Life is like a dream
That vanish in the midst of the night.
Life is like  the rising sun
That sets in the lowly west.
Life is like the angry waves
That breaks in the rocky shores.
Life is like the morning star
That fades when the sun rises.
Life is like the falling rain
That sprinkles the grassy land.
Life is full of miseries
With pains,trials and happiness.
The tragedies are those things
That you missed.

Poems and Poets / Sonnets
July 19, 2008, 01:38:34 PM
Sonnets are poems of 14 lines.

             Leaves

Gently fanning and dancing
As the breeze freely blows.
As the angry wind blows
They kiss and some fall down.
They are always bathed
By the showering raindrops.
You are the food of animals.
You give shade and freshness.
With different shapes and color
With varied scents and savor.
Our lives are like leaves.
We rise, blown and fall.
The leaves are so lovely
'cause we see them everyday.

July 19, 2008, 09:20:24 AM
I write this topic so that my fellow Boholanos who are living in  Digos will thread with me about informations ,experiences and for friendship.

Today, Digos City is celebrating its third aniversary of Padigosan Festival. This commemorates the  founding of Digos on July 19, 1949 into a municipality, 59 years ago.  Digos was a part of Sta. Cruz. On SEpt. 8, 1999, it was created into
a city, the provincial center and capital of Davao del Sur. Digos came from the word "padigos" which mean to take a bath. Early travelers where asked 'where are you going?. They answered "padigos". From that time on it was called Digos.

The framer and builder of Digos City was Hon. Arsenio Latasa, the first city mayor. He became a mayor for three consecutive terms before it became a city. Digos City is one of the fast growing metropolies in Davao region.

Proud to say, Hon. Arsenio Latasa  is a Boholano, from Laya, Baclayon,Bohol

Election is just a mile away. Many are planning to run for  elective position.
This is the last term of Hon. Vito Rapal. Who will run for  mayor in 2010.?
Probably, Ondong Bolando the vice mayor is aiming for. Although quite old
but politically capable to be the next mayor. Is there any indications that
the wife or son of the incumbent mayor will repalce him?. In  our place  in
Davao del Sur, after the congressman finished his last term, his son take
over and he run for governor. His wife also run for board member They were
all elected .This is true in many places of the country.  Lolong Ado  is the
the best choice for vice mayor or Mayor Rapal will go down for vice to finish
his projects and program for Corella.

I think its to early to talk on these at this time.

Dili gyud mawala sa iyang baba
Nga  mag-aso kon iyang yupyopn.
Mawala ang mga kaguol ug kalaay.
Maoy iyang adlaw-adlaw nga kalipay
Kon maupos na ang  solod sa hunsoy
Iyang itaktak aron  mahulog ang agiw.
Unya  dayon iyang itago.

This is proven. Ang tuba pwedeng gamiton instead of yeast for baking. Tuba is drink for life, kay makataas ug kinabuhi

I can still recall the BSAT Song Composed by Justino Romea.

Let us sing and let us praise the BSAT
Its the school that trains brind and hand.
Where the clanging of the anvils,
the buzzing of the sew
And the roar of the plainer
are song we love to here.
Where the joys and hopes are  waiting.
Blend in song as we turn the mill
We are wood and metal workers
We sew, we cook, we draw and hammer.

All these jobs will make our country
Strong and free   ( repeat )

I do believe that the movement of the moon affects to the growth of plants. The rise and  fall of the seas are  controlled by the moon. It was noticed by volcanologist that the  eruptions of Mt. Mayon occurs mostly during full moon. In some observations, pigs and cows usually give birth during full moon. There is no scientific study on this, but these are usual happenings. So, this can be facts.

I believed St Anthony de Padua is the seekers of lost article. One of my neighbor in Canangcaan went to Sikatuna and have a novena of the patron  and prayed asking the return of her lost necklace. After the ninth novena, the lost necklace was returned by a small boy. This is one of the untold stories in my KD story of Corella. He becomes a devotee to St. Anthony. Every fiesta , she is there in Sikatuna and lighted  candles to the saint.

June 21, 2008, 10:45:05 AM
In this time of cresis, mahal ang bugas, we tried cooking yellow corn. Okey lang kong maayo ang imong sud-an. My remedy now is buy the cheaper rice or NFA rice and mix it with malagkit.
Make a ratio of 1 kilo malagkit with 5 kilos of NFA rice. Malagkit is quite cheaper than ordinary rice.

Another KD story.

Walay gisultihan niya bisan kinsa.
Misalir gyud kay perme maliug and kalaban nilang manok.
Dili maayo nga magkupot ta ug tanggil nga iya sa p*** or devil.

Did you know that the mayor in Digos City is a Bol-anon.?

The present mayor of Digos City, the capital of Davao del Sur is a natural born Boholano from Laya Baclayon.

He graduated law at Divine Word College. After passing the board his parents migrated to Digos. He was a practicing lawyer until he was first elected   mayor of the old municipality of Digos in 1990. He served for three continious term. In 1999, he initiated the cityhood of Digos. He was the framer and founder of Digos City being the first city mayor. Digos City is quite becoming a fast growing city especially the development of barangay Kapatagan into a tourist spot. Kapatagan is the site for  the best view of the highest peak of the land, Mt, Apo.

Proud to say. he is Hon. Arsenio A. Latasa.

My father being a Usaffe did not enjoy so much of pension because he died in 1994. He recieved P1500 monthly during that time. I know personally Osyong Clarin. His wife, Felicetas was my Grade V1 adviser. My wife is descendants of Bayron clan in Candijay, Bohol. His Lolo migrated in Davao in 1940.

Profile of a Good Leader
   by fdaray

He was borned on June 30,1916 in Canangcaan, Corella Bohol to the parents Pedro Daray and Margarita Sayon . He was commonly called Engco Eden by the folks. Less had been written about his younger life. He finishded only Grade V1 and always been the head of the class. He had a very good penmanship in slanting
style. He was friendly and fond of teasing  anybody in form of a joke.
At the age of, 18 he was enlisted in the Phillipinre army and after two years training timely that  the second world war broke out, he was called for active duty in the arm forces of the Philippines. He become a recognized member of the USAFFE. He was always in the front line being a first sergeant. He was a "death marcher" and a prisoner of war.
After the war, he was discharge from the military and live a simple life, a farmer in his native hometown in Canangcaan. Because of his prowess in leadership, he was always chosen as president in any organization in the barangay like the PTA. In 1960 he was elected as barrio teniente. In 1965 he was again elected as first barangay captain and served without any honorarium until 1981 when resigned due to old age.
I remembered that when there were visitors coming to the barrio, our house was the venue for lunch and we tried to spent the last peso for the best food to be served. He organized benefit dances " bayle", during that time to earn money and make it a revolving fund for the barangay. He always think  of what he can do to the barangay to raise money because there was no ERA during that time.
Proud to say, he is my father , Ireneo S. Daray, a great leader, a frammer of Canangcaan, a defender of freedom. His life is worthy of emulation.

Corella is gradually changing to restore back farming. Many were able to harvest palay last cropping because of  affordable rain. Some started plowing for corn and other root crops. It was observed in the previous years that there were many idle lands and rice field because of abnormal weather condition. It was observed that there was  rain throughout the year. I believe this is the effects of reforestation. Many were planting trees like gmelinas, mahogany and fruits trees.  Corella is turning to be a man made forest.

Thank Atty  for conferming my story. I know you are always passing the road.

Chocolate Hills back in the race for New 7 Wonders of Nature

Cebu Daily News
First Posted 08:18:00 05/03/2008

BOHOL’S famed Chocolate Hills is back in the running to become one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature after contest organizers took it out from the final list of nominees two weeks ago.

Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado said the Chocolate Hills was put back in the list by the New 7 Wonders of Nature (N7W), a non-government organization, which launched the search, after he complied with the contest’s final requirement, which was to set up an official support committee for Bohol's natural wonder.

Aumentado appointed the Bohol Provincial Tourism Council as the official nominator of the Chocolate Hills as a requirements of the N7W.

The NGO also required a commitment of support from the local government unit (LGU).

Aumentado said the LGU support group would organize a global working committee which would support Chocolate Hills to be part of the new seven wonders of nature.

“They (N7W) had restored Chocolate Hills and the previous votes were still counted after we complied with everything (requirements),” Aumentado said.

The Chocolate Hills consist of at least 1,268 domed limestone hills that turn brown under the summer sun and are spread in the towns of Carmen, Batuan and Sagbayan, Bohol.

The hills measuring 30 to 50 meters high have already been considered as among the National Geological Monuments of the country because of its scientific value and geographical uniqueness.

Aumentado said he appreciated the support from the Cebu provincial government and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“It would be an honor for Bohol if Chocolate Hills could make it to the top of the seven wonders list. Not only will it promote Bohol's tourism industry but also the Philippines,” Aumentado said.

The nomination, according to the governor, can also promote the country as a favorite eco-tourism destination in the world.

Cebu Provincial Board Member Victor Maambong asked the Cebuanos to cast their votes for the Chocolate Hills.

He said it would be a source of pride and a boost to local tourism if the Chocolate Hills were to become one of the seven wonders of the world.

“It is not only a (source of) national pride but (it will) also (boost) the prospect of promoting eco-tourism in the country...,” said Maambong in a draft resolution that will be submitted to the PB session on Monday.

If approved, Maambong wanted copies of his resolution sent to all the barangays in the province and the Department of Tourism.

Aside from the Chocolate Hills, Maambong said the Tubbataha Reef in the Sulu Sea and the Underground River in Puerto Princesa, Palawan also deserve the Cebuanos’ support.

The reef is a Unesco World Heritage Site because of its globally renowned bio-diversity. Its two atolls lie on the Cagayan ridge and encompasses roughly 100,000 hectares of corals and over a thousand species of marine life.

In the initial results of the online polls for the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the Tubbataha Reef ranked 7th place while the Chocolate Hills was 9th. The Puerto Princesa Underground River was number 20.

The need to massively campaign on the local destinations especially the Chocolate Hills was also among the concerns discussed in a local security meeting called by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the Malacañang sa Sugbu during her visit last Monday.

Those who wants to cast their votes for the Philippine's entries can log on to www.new7wonders.com

“It is fitting that we encourage and exhort all Cebuanos to cast their votes for the new seven wonders of nature in the world,” said Maambong in his draft resolution.

The Philippine Tarsier Foundation in Canapnapan, Corella is located in a 7.4 hectare of sanctuary or forest reservation. Visitors can see tarsiers in its natural habitat. This promotes tourism in Corella and the province of Bohol. When I was still young, I caught a full-grown tarsier. I placed  it in a bamboo cage. The animal smashed its head on the wall of the cage in a bid to escape until its skull cracked and died. Therefore, this animal can not be raised  as pet. Before, this animals were mainly hunted  to be made into stuffed toys for  decor. The first man who successfully bread this animal in captivity was
Carlito Pizarras known as "tarsier man", the first man of Corella recorded in the National Geographic.
We invite you to see the Philippine tarsier in Corella .

                     THE TARSIER
                      by: fdaray

               Of all the rare animal
               I ever did see.
               The tarsier is the rarest
               By part to me.

               For all day long
It sleeps on a branch of a tree.
               And when the night comes
               It hunts and eats  prey.

One of my kababayan from Balilihan asked me about iced rain in Corella last Oct. 2007. Yes it was true. My sister in Canangcaan told  that the day was cloudy. They observed  stones falling on the roof. After two minutes, the  ice melted and falled down as if there was a heavy rain. People staying outdoor saw the ice were as big as a gmelina fruit. It was observed in the whole barangay of Canangcaan and other neighboring barangays. I beleived , it was  the effect of global warming.

Ayaw baya ug kasuko mga  taga Canapnapan. Katuohan dili kini nga estorya. Diha pud sa Sikatuna daghan ug gaba-an ug sakan diha.

Sa way kukahadlok iyang gidakop.

Circumcision is biblical. How old when Moses was circumcized? He was circumcized at old age.

Mga Sugilanong KD (Katuohan-Dili) sa Corella

Utang bayad man ang ilang pamaagi. Kon dili diliveran, dili sad sila mobayad.

Kon batan-on pa ako karon, magsulat ko ug will and testament nga edonate nako ang akong sex organ kon panaglit mamatay ko nga bata pa.  You are dead but  still enjoy life.
