LAS VEGAS (AP) â€" The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps them find the person who put raw bacon on the door handles of a Las Vegas mosque.

The FBI said in a statement Wednesday that agents are trying to find the man seen in a surveillance video putting the meat on the entrances of the Masjid-e-Tawheed mosque. Authorities call it a desecration of the Islamic worship center.

The Quran, the holy book of Islam, prohibits Muslims from eating pork, and pigs have been used to taunt or offend Muslims.

Both the FBI and Las Vegas police say they're investigating the case as a possible hate crime.

Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield said the bacon was wrapped on the door knobs, and was also found on the ground and fences.

Officials at the mosque couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

The FBI said the incident happened about 3:15 a.m. Dec. 27. The culprit is described as a white man wearing a dark blue hat, jacket and black-framed glasses. He had black or dark brown hair with long, thin sideburns.

The site west of the Las Vegas Strip wasn't damaged, and no one was hurt. The mosque was empty at the time, and the case was reported by members who came to worship later that morning.

Several threatening incidents at mosques have been reported in recent weeks. A Molotov cocktail went off at an Islamic center in Tracy, California, days ago, and a severed pig's head was found outside a Philadelphia worship site earlier this month.

MANILA, Philippines â€" The Diocese of San Pablo on Tuesday, December 29, criticized one of its priests for using a hoverboard in a Christmas Eve Mass as seen in a video that has gone viral.

“That was wrong,” the Diocese of San Pablo, Laguna, said in a statement Tuesday.

“The Eucharist demands utmost respect and reverence. It is the Memorial of the Lord’s Sacrifice. It is the source and summit of Christian life,” the Diocese of San Pablo said.

Referring to the Mass, the diocese continued: “It is the Church’s highest form of worship. Consequently, it is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people.”

The Diocese of San Pablo said the incident happened on Thursday, December 24.

The diocese said that “before the final blessing of the Christmas Eve Mass, as a way of greeting his parishioners, the priest sang a Christmas song, while going around the nave standing on a hoverboard.”

The diocese did not identify the priest in its statement.

A hoverboard is a battery-operated device that brings a person from one point to another, and is now the subject of a possible ban in the Philippines due to security concerns. Hoverboards first appeared in the 1989 science-fiction film Back to the Future II. -- http://www.rappler.com/

Bohol cop shoots cop in station; is shot dead by fellow cop

SIKATUNA, Bohol â€" A policeman was killed on Monday by fellow officers after he shot and wounded a fellow policeman inside the police station here.

Insp. Erenieto Polestico Feniza, Sikatuna police chief, said SPO2 Fidel Malig-on, Sikatuna police investigator, was cooking in the kitchen inside the station at about 9 a.m. when PO2 Marlon Balbiran, a tourist police at the tarsier sanctuary in Corella town, arrived and shot him in the stomach.

When the other policemen on duty heard the gunshot, they rushed to the kitchen and was met by Balbiran pointing his 9mm pistol at them.

One of the responding lawmen, P03 Noel Felicia, shot Balbiran in the head. Balbiran was brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Malig-on remained in critical condition, according to Feniza.

Malig-on and Balbiran were both residents of Barangay Oy in Loboc town.

Feniza said he believed personal grudge was the motive behind the shooting.

He also said witnesses quoted Balbiran as telling Malig-on “Why did you embarrass my family” before shooting him.

Supt. Dennis Agustin, Bohol police provincial director, said he was saddened by the incident. “I cried. What happened to my men saddened me especially it happened just after Christmas and before New Year,” he said.

“I always remind my men to keep calm especially when they are bringing their guns,” he added.

North Korea has a long history of smuggling drugs as a means of gaining foreign capital, and they have even been willing to use their own diplomatic corps to carry it out. Much of this can be linked to the fact that North Korea pays its diplomats very poorly and expects its embassies to be "self-financing", forcing them to resort to bootlegging and smuggling. In 1976, the North Korean embassy in Denmark was denied permission to import 2.5 million cigarettes for personal consumption. Later that year, the entire staff was ejected from the country after two North Korean diplomats were found with half a ton of marijuana in their limousine.

In 2004, a US report detailed over 50 incidents in which North Korean diplomats had been caught with drugs over the previous 20 years. Pyongyang withdrew its embassy in Bulgaria when two of its diplomats were accused of smuggling drugs after Turkish police seized 621,000 narcotic pills, believed to be headed to drug markets in the Arab world. Diplomats were arrested and deported in the United States at around the same time for smuggling the synthetic drug phenethylline.

In 2013, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported that South Korean intelligence had discovered that the North Korean government had sent a large batch of methamphetamines to its embassy in an Eastern European country with orders to sell it and send the money back. Apparently, 20-kilogram (40 lb) packages of meth had been sent out to diplomats, totaling up to 200 kilograms (400 lb), with a deadline for sale of April 15, the celebration of Kim Il Sung’s birthday. One defector claimed, "Drugs are sent from North Korea several times a year by ship or trucks. An embassy staffer meets up with smugglers at a secret location to get them."
