Being preoccupied with my well-being, You chose to self-sacrificed Yourself, Setting aside all Your personal glories. I thank You Lord Jesus for Your act of love! Your action has drawn me closer to You. Teach me to model in smaller things, To sacrifice in order to help others, Guiding my soul to endure abstinence. Lamb of God, I thank you endlessly!

May the Peace that comes from the very mouth of God be unto everyone who calls on His Name.

The Peace of God, the True Peace, that delights the soul, and gladdens those who are blessed to receive it...be with us all!

In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.

Omnipotent God, Almighty Emperor, Your power rules over all creations. Through the Word of Your Divine Will, Creation materializes or dematerializes. No power can ever near Your equal! You rule Your domains, Heaven and earth, With continuous compassion and love! Teach me to humbly manage my affairs As a reflection of Your Heavenly virtues. Should such power coexist with egoism, Belittle my soul as a reminder, That power is a gift of God to cherish!

AMEN

God, my Father,
may I love You in all things and above all things.
May I reach the joy which You have prepared for me in
Heaven.

Nothing is good that is against Your Will,
and all that is good comes from Your Hand.
Place in my heart a desire to please You
and fill my mind with thoughts of Your Love,
so that I may grow in Your Wisdom and enjoy Your Peace.

This prayer “Fill Me With Your Glory” was written
by Mary Jane Hurley Brant in honor of Katie Brant in July, 2000

Dear Lord,
Fill me with your glory and your hope.
Help me to remember that without you
I can do nothing very long
But with you,
I can help further your holy plan.

Assist my spirit in remembering
That I can be instrumental and steadfast
Faithfully aiding our heavenly Mother
To nurture all of her children
Through kindness and love.

Teach me to remember what I have always known,
That I came from You and I shall return to You,
And there, within Your perpetual light,
My every tear shall dry away for I shall be with You
And those I loved so dearly here.

Guide me in Your plan to courageously and fearlessly say,
Not my will but Yours be done
Trusting always that my motivations here on earth
Are driven by Your holy will.

Show me the happiness which springs forth from having faith,
The peace and joy that forgiveness brings,
And how prayer always makes life meaningful,
Despite any fears, or losses or pain
I may be suffering in the moment.

Love me into full being so when I am born to eternal life,
I shall feel fulfilled realizing I recognized and multiplied
All the talents You gave to me
And the sweet validation and peace I may humbly claim
From listening to You, The Bridegroom of my soul.

After consuming an entire bottle of duty-free liquor on a flight from Iceland to New York’s JFK airport, Gudmundur Karl Arthorsson of Iceland began grabbing women, spitting on people, and making threats to the crew. That’s when the duct tape came out. Gudmundur Karl Arthorsson of Iceland was taped to his seat and gagged on Thursday during a New York bound flight after consuming an entire bottle of duty free alcohol and accosting several passengers.

Question and Answer / Re: When Is War Justified?
July 08, 2013, 03:26:33 AM
While the just-war teaching has clearly been in possession for the past 1,500 years of Catholic thought, the "new moment" in which we find ourselves sees the just-war teaching and nonviolence as distinct but interdependent methods of evaluating warfare. They diverge on some specific conclusions, but they share a common presumption against the use of force as a means of settling disputes. Both find their roots in the Christian theological tradition; each contributes to the full moral vision we need in pursuit of a human peace. We believe the two perspectives support and complement one another, each preserving the other from distortion.

Question and Answer / Re: When Is War Justified?
July 08, 2013, 03:26:11 AM
Just response to aggression must also be discriminate; it must be directed against unjust aggressors, not against innocent people caught up in a war not of their making. The Council therefore issued its memorable declaration: "Any act of war aimed indiscriminately at the destruction of entire cities or of extensive areas along with their population is a crime against God and man himself. It merits unequivocal and unhesitating condemnation."

Side by side with the just-war theory throughout Christian history has been the tradition of nonviolence. One of the great nonviolent figures was St. Francis of Assisi.

Question and Answer / Re: When Is War Justified?
July 08, 2013, 03:25:59 AM
Because of the destructive capability of modern technological warfare, the principle of proportionality (and that of discrimination) takes on special significance. Today it becomes increasingly difficult to make a decision to use any kind of armed force, however limited initially in intention and in the destructive power of the weapons employed, without facing at least the possibility of escalation to broader, or even total, war and to the use of weapons of horrendous destructive potential.

"Indeed, if the kind of weapons now stocked in the arsenals of the great powers were to be employed to the fullest, the result would be the almost complete reciprocal slaughter of one side by the other, not to speak of the widespread devastation that would follow in the world and the deadly after-effects resulting from the use of such weapons" (Pastoral Constitution, #80). To destroy civilization as we know it by waging such a "total war" as today it could be waged would be a monstrously disproportionate response to aggression on the part of any nation.

Question and Answer / Re: When Is War Justified?
July 08, 2013, 03:24:23 AM
The moral theory of the "just-war" or "limited-war" doctrine begins with the presumption which binds all Christians: We should do no harm to our neighbors. Just-war teaching has evolved as an effort to prevent war. Only if war cannot be rationally avoided does the teaching then seek to restrict and reduce its horrors. It does this by establishing a set of rigorous conditions which must be met if the decision to go to war is to be morally permissible. Such a decision, especially today, requires extraordinarily strong reasons for overriding the presumption in favor of peace and against war. The conditions for a just war are as follows:

Just cause. War is permissible only to confront "a real and certain danger," i.e., to protect innocent life, to preserve conditions necessary for decent human existence and to secure basic human rights.

Competent authority. War must be declared by those with responsibility for public order, not by private groups or individuals.

Comparative justice. In essence: Which side is sufficiently "right" in a dispute, and are the values at stake critical enough to override the presumption against war? Do the rights and values involved justify killing? Given techniques of propaganda and the ease with which nations and individuals either assume or delude themselves into believing that God or right is clearly on their side, the test of comparative justice may be extremely difficult to apply.

Right intention. War can be legitimately intended only for the reasons set forth above as a just cause.

Last resort. For resort to war to be justified, all peaceful alternatives must have been exhausted.

Probability of success. This is a difficult criterion to apply, but its purpose is to prevent irrational resort to force or hopeless resistance when the outcome of either will clearly be disproportionate or futile.

Proportionality. This means that the damage to be inflicted and the costs incurred by war must be proportionate to the good expected by taking up arms.

The bow of the warship has this mounted:

Octuple SAM launchers, these are surface to air missiles and would render any air threats to the ship nill.
The system provides air defence missile coverage of 2,000km². Target detection and tracking range is up to 60km and the missiles can intercept crossing and approaching targets to a range of 25km. The kill probability is high, even against highly agile crossing targets. The system can engage up to four targets simultaneously with Aspide missiles.  8)

He he he, I think if the Philippine Navy were to send just 1 of our soon-to-be-acquired Masetrale Class Frigate to the Sulu Sea, the Malaysians might get too 'intimidated' and take it as a Philippine plan to re-possess Sabah. Considering the nature of the Navy, the Philippine's warships would be sent to interdict the rampant piracy as well as to neutralize armed bandits.

Adto nis West Philippine Sea ibutang kay hilig ra ba mangsug sug nang mga Chinese ug palupad inside the Philippine airspace kay lagi way anti-aircraft defense ang Pilipinas.

These missile batteries could be strategically placed throughout the military administrative regions so to ensure that the airspace of those regions are free from enemy aircraft.

The Armed Forces would probably place the majority of these in around Manila as there is no defense system to protect Manila from a fighter aircraft.

I also read somewhere that the purchase of the Rafael Defense Industries' medium to long range surface to air and surface to surface missiles can be placed on the Philippine Navy's large capital ships.

This means that the majority of the Philippine Navy's patrol ships and large capital ships will be equipped with these missiles.

Philippines plans to tap Israel for missile launcher

Amid rising tensions over territorial disputes with China in the West Philippine Sea, the government is planning to buy anti-aircraft guided missiles from Israel, reliable sources told the Manila Standard Friday.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the surface-to-air missiles or multiple launch rocket systems were being offered by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and Israel Military Industries Ltd., both based in Israel.

“SAMs and MLRS are mobile anti-aircraft weapons designed against jet fighters,” the source said, adding that these had been suggested some time ago but had not been taken seriously because the defense establishment had no interest in investing at the time.

“Now, here comes the territorial dispute in the West Philippine Sea, and at last they’ve opened their eyes,” the source added.

Another source said Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin was planning to go to Israel next week to forge an agreement with the prospective suppliers.

“If you have an agreement this would hasten the procurement process, say in three to six months you would already have the weapons. The agreement gives you the leeway to access all the information you want know about a particular weapon you want to procure,” the source said.

Manila Standard tried to reach Defense Undersecretary Fernando Manalo and spokesman Peter Paul Galvez for confirmation, but both did not return calls or answer text messages.

In his first year in office, President Benigno Aquino III had released P75 billion to fund the upgrading of the military’s capability through the procurement of ships and aircraft.

Gazmin then said they had some 138 big-ticket defense items that were being considered on a government-to-government procurement basis.

Part of this buildup was the recent procurement of the BRP Ramon Alcaraz, a rehabilitated US Coast Guard cutter introduced in the 1960s.

The refurbished cutter, procured for will be the country’s most modern warship and is expected to arrive in July or August.

But Senator Gregorio Honasan seemed unimpressed with the extent of help offered by the United States, and called for a review of the US Visiting Forces Agreement and the Mutual Defense Treaty, which he described as useless.

“We are not getting anything out of it. We have many international economic, military and security arrangements with other nations but why did they not say anything while the Scarborough Shoal standoff was heating up?” said the former Army colonel.

Because of this, Honasan said the country should abrogate all treaties that do nothing to help the country.

At the same time, however, he said a joint fishing agreement with Taiwan would be beneficial because it would afford protection to fishermen from both countries.

His remarks follow the May 9 fatal shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman by Philippine Coast Guard personnel in the Balintang Channel that soured relations between Taiwan and the Philippines.

Also on Friday, the Foreign Affairs Department said it welcomed the filing of a resolution in the US Senate in support of a peaceful resolution to territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

“We understand that the resolution has yet to undergo the necessary congressional process before it is passed by the US Senate, nonetheless, we extend our appreciation on the mere fact that some US senators have deigned it necessary to express their views on a fundamental issue that affects the peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region,” the department said in a statement.

“The Philippines especially appreciates the reaffirmation of the peaceful resolution of disputes, including through arbitration; its condemnation of the use of threat or use of force; its recognition of the significance of the role of ASEAN and of the code of conduct; and its support for the ongoing and deepening efforts of the US in the region relating to ensuring freedom of navigation, maintenance of peace and stability, and respect for universally recognized principles of international law.”

These 2 Maestrale-class frigates, the 2 new frigates we purchased from the United States will definitely provide the Philippines a credible defense posture.

MANILA - The Philippines is set to buy two Maestrale-class frigates from Italy, a defense official said Wednesday, as the Asian nation races to upgrade its military amid mounting territorial disputes with China.

The frigates, along with 12 FA-50 fighter aircraft, are the most significant items on the government's 75-billion-peso ($1.7-billion) military modernization budget over the next five years, Defense Undersecretary Fernando Manalo said.

"We are modernizing not because we want to go to war with China," he told a news conference.

He said the government had a sworn obligation to defend the "West Philippine Sea," using the government's preferred term for Philippine-claimed areas in the South China Sea.

"We are not saying that this is part of our preparations to assert our sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea. What we are saying is that we cannot just give them up."

The frigates would add to two refurbished Hamilton-class cutters formerly used by the US Coast Guard that the Philippines acquired from its US ally to upgrade its ageing navy fleet, which includes some vessels that first saw action in World War II.

Manalo said the navy had already decided to acquire two new Maestrale-class frigates instead of buying used ones from the Italian navy, and had budgeted 18 billion pesos for them.

The Philippines could be ready to tender by the end of the year, he added.

Meanwhile, the government had alloted 18.9 billion pesos to acquire the fighter aircraft, which are built by South Korea, he added.

The modernization budget also provides for building or improving facilities to berth and provide maintenance to the vessels on the military's shopping list, Manalo said.

President Benigno Aquino vowed Monday to rebuild the air force by 2016.

The Philippines, which has one of the weakest military forces in the region, retired the last of its US-designed F-5 fighters in 2005.

In the wake of the increased tension with China over a territorial dispute in the western Philippine Sea, the Philippine newspaper Manila Standard is reporting the Philippine government is planning to procure guided antiaircraft systems from Israel.

According to the newspaper, the missiles and launch systems that are being considered are produced by Rafael and Israel Military Industries (IMI), and Philippine Secretary of Defense Voltaire Gazmin is expected to arrive in Israel this week in order to close the details of the deal. The Philippine source who conveyed the information to the newspaper claimed that once an agreement has been concluded, the systems could reach the state within three to six months.

Efforts are underway in the Philippines to upgrade the state's military capabilities, which includes the procurement of new aircraft and naval vessels, and the state intends to procure additional measures and products in the framework of government-to-government deals.

Vince,

The Philippine Navy is not the only segment of the Armed Forces that will be augmented, but the Air Force as well. The Philippines is to acquire 12 F-50 strategic air fighters that will give the Air Force the capability to protect the air space of the country. In addition, will be an essential partner in cooperating with the Navy in isolating / pin pointing enemy crafts within Philippine territory.

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- The Philippine Navy is preparing to get the Hamilton-class cutter, formerly known as USCGC Dallas (WHEC-716), now named BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF-16), underway July 5.

The ship was acquired by the Philippines from the U.S. under the Department of Defense's Foreign Military Sales program for 400 million Philippine pesos ($9.26 million), May 22, 2012.

"The acquisition of the frigate is a part of the long term modernization plan of the armed forces of the Philippines," said Capt. Ernesto O Baldovino, Ramon Alcaraz's first commanding officer. "This purchase is mutually beneficial for both governments and shows the sincerity of the U.S. government and the Philippine government to uphold the provisions of the mutual defense treaty signed between the two governments."

Ramon Alcaraz is the second Hamilton-class cutter purchased by the Philippines and is expected to bolster the Philippine navy's capability in protecting their maritime interests.

"From a tactical standpoint, being a former United States ship, the systems are compatible with those of the U.S. Navy and will add to our interoperability with the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard," said Baldovino.

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard are also aboard Ramon Alcaraz to help train members of the Philippine navy to use the systems onboard, train the Philippine navy in what to expect while serving aboard the ship and help prepare the crew for working together with the Coast Guard and the Navy on future missions.

"We were brought here to advise and assist the Philippine Navy on how to use the systems that the ship employs," said Coast Guard Petty Officer First Class Derin Perez. "It's important that we conduct this kind of cross-training with them so that they are better able to understand how we're used to operating, so when we team up to do operations together we can all be on the same page."

The ship was named after the deceased Commodore of the Philippine Fleet, Ramon A. Alcaraz. Alcaraz was awarded the Silver Star for shooting down three low-flying Japanese planes during World War II.

The Philippine Navy has also purchased Harpoon Anti-Ship Missiles from the United States Navy, which will be installed on the BRP Ramon Alcaraz and on the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar. These two warships , upon installation, will have the capability of sinking any enemy capital ships who dare to threaten the territorial integrity of the Republic of the Philippines.

The crown jewel of the Philippines Navy is on its way to the Philippines the BSR Ramon Alcaraz PF 16.

The ship was acquired from the US Coast Guard in 2012 and underwent renovations and testing for the past year.

The 378-foot long battle shipped is equipped with twin Diesel engines and a canon, but also the comforts
of home â€" with Filipino cooking on board and balikbayan boxes full of gifts from the Filipino community in South Carolina where the ship departed from last month.

It’s the second ship the US has given to the Philippines in the past two years as the Philippine military continues to upgrade its fleet.

Upon receiving it President Aquino asked that this ship be named after a Filipino naval hero, and his team’s research dug up World War II hero Commodore Ramon Alcaraz who passed away four years ago.

The Alcaraz family now based in Southern California came to visit the ship.
“I’m so happy, I don’t know, I’m so happy (laugh crying) my husband is smiling up there, said the late commodore’s widow Concepcion.

The PF16 will patrol the seas surrounding the Philippines…including the west Philippine Sea where the Philippones and China are caught in a territorial dispute.

“Hindi lang Spratly kundi sa buong lugar ng Pilipinas kung saan na kailangan ng presence ng malaking barko,” explained Captain Ernesto Baldovino.

The PF 16 will leave San Diego on Friday, taking a three week journey to the Philippines with brief stops in Hawaii and Guam.

But only Christ Jesus is the Supreme Judge.

Contrary to what human inclination supposes, one should never seek vengeance or revenge, that alone belongs to Christ Jesus the Lord of All. Vengeance, alone, is His.

Please read Romans Chapter 12.

" 18If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men. 19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, said the Lord. 20Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. "

-Romans 12: 18-20

Remember, friends, that both China and the United States are nuclear powers. A war between these two giants may lead to a hypothetical apocalyptic scenario, whole regions would be glassed. China has the capability of launching thermonuclear nuclear strikes, and so can the United States. Patay ta tanan. So it is to the best for everyone if these two giants were not to have "war". he he he, 'jaw lang uy.

Taeguk Sam Jang (For Green belt)

This trigram represents Fire. Related to this symbol is also East and the relationship of the Second Daughter. Fire contains a lot of energy. The symbol behind the fire is similar to the symbolism of the water in that both can aid and both can destroy. This form is intended to be performed rhythmically, with some outbursts of energy to reflect fire's rhythmic and energetic dualism.

Taeguk Il Jang (For Yellow belt)

The general meaning of this form and associated trigram is Yang, which represents Heaven and Light. Also, this trigram has a relationship to South and Father. The first Taeguk form is the beginning of all Poomsaes, the "birth" of the martial artist into Taekwondo. This Poomsae should be performed with the greatness of Heaven.

Taekwondo Patterns

Similar to other martial arts, Taekwondo has a series of patterns or Poomsae. The literal translation of Poomsae is 'quality shapes of strength'. The Poomse are a set of 17 patterns mimicking combat scenarios with multiple attackers. Used as a way to train both the mind and the body, patterns act as a form of meditation as well as allowing the student to see the application of the various stances, hand techniques, blocks and kicks.

When done properly, both the student and an observer should be able to imagine the opponent and techniques should be performed realistically with power and intent and in keeping with the meanings (below). The student should move with graceful fluidness and the sound of a snapping Dobok should be heard on any block, kick or strike. As the student progress, the Poomsae become more challenging and test other skills such as balance, timing and co-ordination.

Taekwondo students begin performing patterns for gradings at white belt-yellow tag upwards. Only a demonstration of basic stances and techniques are required before that. Patterns for the coloured belts are simply numbered in Korean from one to eight. The patterns required to attain each Dan grade have their individual names. Each of the Poomsae have a meaning attached to it represented in words and trigrams - a series of 3 horizontal broken or full lines:

At the same time, China must be reminded that her unilateral claims, specifically the 9-dashed claim, is unlawful, hegemonistic and irritates regional neighbors. If China wants to have warm relations with her smaller neighbors, she must practice patience, and diplomatic compromise. She (China) needs to do away with her 9-dash claim. If she can do that, she will realize that nations like the Philippines can be natural partners with China.

China is a non-confrontational nation and will not want war. Both China and the United States are each others' largest trading partner. Nor do I think China would want war in the region, it would be contrary to regional stability and would doom the CCP's legitimacy to rule. No, I believe there will be status quo. China's irritation is natural considering the United States is 'pivoting' 60% of its Navy to Asia Pacific. Her (China's) agitation is natural, how would we feel if a Superpower were to send 6 of its 11 Nuclear-powered Nimitz Class Aircraft Carriers , and and associated battle groups and carrier task forces.

China knows that a war with America would be disastrous for both nations. And I don't think they (China and USA) are stupid enough to initiate war.

Philosophical Principle of Tae Kwon Do

That is, the philosophy is one of actions that can be learned from other actions, and our everyday activities. Taekwondo philosophy represents the principles of the changes and movements in human beings. It also represents the principles of our lives, since life consists of our movements. Therefore, we can say Taekwondo is a philosophy in itself. We can understand the philosophy of Taekwondo by doing Taekwondo, and this understanding should lead to better understanding and enhancement of our life. The principles of Taekwondo can be explained in several ways but here we will explain it simply with the principle of "Sam Jae" [Three Elements] and that of "Eum" [the Negative or Darkness] and "Yang" [the Positive or the Brightness]. "Sam Jae" refers to "Cheon" [the Heaven], "Ji" [the Earth], and "In" [the Man] and the principles concerning them. In oriental countries, it has been recognized as the central principle that explains the changes of everything in the world. "Sam Jae" and the changes of "Eum" and "Yang" constitute the "Eight Trigrams for Divination" in the "Book of Changes." The principle of Sam Jae has been emphasized in oriental countries, especially in Korea. If you understand Taekwondo's principle, you could understand all the skills and spiritual depth of Taekwondo. The principle of Eum and Yang has also been emphasized in oriental countries as the central principle of life. It maintains that everything has an opposite side. This principle explains various forms of changes, but it comes from "Taegeuk" [the Great Absolute], which represents the ultimate claim that Eum and Yang was the one and the same thing. If we understand Taekwondo according to this principle, we will find a solution, and by continuously changing skills, we will never get stuck, in any situation. After we understand these philosophical principles of Taekwondo, we can find proper ways to understand and develop our lives.

How come we reach such a unity in Taekwondo? Taekwondo is a way of life, much like having a job, raising a family, fighting for a cause, or any one of numerous raison d'etre. What makes Taekwondo different from these is that it is an activity for survival in extremely antagonistic situations. One must always overcome the enemy that is trying to cause harm. But simply winning a fight is not enough to guarantee one's safety, because the enemy may recuperate and attack again. Moreover, there may be many other enemies than the one that was just defeated. One cannot ever feel safe unless one gains permanent peace. To attain this permanent or lasting peace, one needs unity. This is what Taekwondo aim for. Otherwise Taekwondo would be no different from any other street-fighting skills.

Taekwondo pursues harmonious growth and improvements of life through its unique activities. This is why one could say Taekwondo is a way of life. To ultimately enable ourselves to lead more valuable lives, we would do well by finding the guiding principles deeply hidden in Taekwondo.

Taekwondo today is similar to the martial arts in other Oriental countries and shares some features with them, because in the course of its evolution it has gained many different styles that existed in the martial arts of the countries surrounding Korea, like Japan and China.

But Taekwondo is very different from many such oriental martial arts. First, physically it is very dynamic with active movements that include a mirage of foot skills. Second, the principle physical movements are in simpatico with that of the mind and life as a whole. Third, it possesses dynamic poses from another perspective.

Taekwondo can be characterized by unity: the unity of body, mind, and life, and the unity of the pose ["poomsae"] and confrontation, and cracking down. When you do Taekwondo, you should make your mind peaceful and synchronize your mind with your movements, and extend this harmony to your life and society. This is how in Taekwondo the principle of physical movements, the principle of mind training, and the principle of life become one and the same. On the other hand, the right poomsae lead to the right confrontation, which will eventually produce great destructive power.

Let's take a closer look at the meaning of the word "Tae" "Kwon" "Do." It is composed of three parts as shown in the English spelling, though it is one word in Korean. "Tae" means "foot," "leg," or "to step on"; "Kwon" means "fist," or "fight"; and "Do" means the "way" or "discipline." If we put these three parts together, we can see two important concepts behind "Tae Kwon Do".

First, Taekwondo is the right way of using Tae and Kwon 'fists and feet,' or all the parts of the body that are represented by fists and feet. Second, it is a way to control or calm down fights and keep the peace. This concept comes from the meaning of Tae Kwon 'to put fists under control' [or 'to step on fists']. Thus Taekwondo means "the right way of using all parts of the body to stop fights and help to build a better and more peaceful world."

Taekwondo has been developing with the 5000-year long history of Korea, being called by several different names in the course. In Korea, Taekwondo began as a defense martial art called "Subak" or "Taekkyon," and developed as a way of training body and mind in the ancient kingdom of Koguryo, under the name of "Sunbae." In the Shilla period, it had become the backbone of Hwarangdo that aimed at producing leaders of the country.
