A book that I'm currently reading is, "Rose Red". A very nice horror book.

Ghosts and goblins. :)

Music,

I remember when i was still a child and our yayas would tell me ghost stories in and around the Valencia area. Do you remember the story of the ghost near the little bridge that separates Valencia from Garcia Hernandez?

Naturally, I'm very skeptical on ghost stories. But there have been times where I have felt things during the dead of the night.

#44205
Who in here have the ability to see the dead? See ghosts, or even feel the presence of ghosts?

Can you please tell us about your experiences, and how you have dealt with this gift? Any stories?

#44206
Being alone.

One time I went with a group of friends to the Greenville Cemetery during the dead of night.

Somehow I was separated from the group. And my flashlight died on me.

Let's just say that I ran fast towards the direction of the cemetery's gate.

It was the 'act' of farming that brought mankind into the realm of civility.

Bible Study / A Time for Everything
July 27, 2008, 03:26:17 AM
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-22

    There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens.

    A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.

    A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to tear down, and a time to build.

    A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.

    A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them; a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.

    A time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away.

    A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to be silent, and a time to speak.

    A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

    What advantage has the worker from his toil?

    I have considered the task which God has appointed for men to be busied about.

    He has made everything appropriate to its time, and has put the timeless into their hearts, without men's ever    discovering, from beginning to end, the work which God has done.

    I recognized that there is nothing better than to be glad and to do well during life.

    For every man, moreover, to eat and drink and enjoy the fruit of all his labor is a gift of God.

    I recognized that whatever God does will endure forever; there is no adding to it, or taking from it. Thus has God done that he may be revered.

    What now is has already been; what is to be, already is; and God restores what would otherwise be displaced.

    And still under the sun in the judgment place I saw wickedness, and in the seat of justice, iniquity.

    And I said to myself, both the just and the wicked God will judge, since there is a time for every affair and on every work a judgment.

    I said to myself: As for the children of men, it is God's way of testing them and of showing that they are in themselves like beasts.

    For the lot of man and of beast is one lot; the one dies as well as the other. Both have the same life-breath, and man has no advantage over the beast; but all is vanity.

    Both go to the same place; both were made from the dust, and to the dust they both return.

    Who knows if the life-breath of the children of men goes upward and the life-breath of beasts goes earthward?

    And I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to rejoice in his work; for this is his lot. Who will let him see what is to come after him?

JOB 42: 2-6

    Then Job answered the LORD and said:

    I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be hindered.

    I have dealt with great things that I do not understand; things too wonderful for me, which I cannot know.

    I had heard of you by word of mouth, but now my eye has seen you.

    Therefore I disown what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes.

The LORD restored the prosperity of Job, after he had prayed for his friends; the LORD even gave to Job twice as much as he had before.

Then Job died, old and full of years.

JOB 41: 1-26

    Is he not relentless when aroused; who then dares stand before him?

    Whoever might vainly hope to do so need only see him to be overthrown.

    Who has assailed him and come off safe-- Who under all the heavens?

    I need hardly mention his limbs, his strength, and the fitness of his armor.

    Who can strip off his outer garment, or penetrate his double corselet?

    Who can force open the doors of his mouth, close to his terrible teeth?

    Rows of scales are on his back, tightly sealed together;

    They are fitted each so close to the next that no space intervenes;

    So joined one to another that they hold fast and cannot be parted.

    When he sneezes, light flashes forth; his eyes are like those of the dawn.

    Out of his mouth go forth firebrands; sparks of fire leap forth.

    From his nostrils issues steam, as from a seething pot or bowl.

    His breath sets coals afire; a flame pours from his mouth.

    Strength abides in his neck, and terror leaps before him.

    His heart is hard as stone; his flesh, as the lower millstone.

    When he rises up, the mighty are afraid; the waves of the sea fall back.

    Should the sword reach him, it will not avail; nor will the spear, nor the dart, nor the javelin.

    He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.

    The arrow will not put him to flight; slingstones used against him are but straws.

    Clubs he esteems as splinters; he laughs at the crash of the spear.

    His belly is sharp as pottery fragments; he spreads like a threshing sledge upon the mire.

    He makes the depths boil like a pot; the sea he churns like perfume in a kettle.

    Behind him he leaves a shining path; you would think the deep had the hoary head of age.

    Upon the earth there is not his like, intrepid he was made.

    All, however lofty, fear him; he is king over all proud beasts.

JOB 40: 1-32

     The LORD then said to Job:

    Will we have arguing with the Almighty by the critic? Let him who would correct God give answer!

    Then Job answered the LORD and said:

    Behold, I am of little account; what can I answer you? I put my hand over my mouth.

    Though I have spoken once, I will not do so again; though twice, I will do so no more.

    Then the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:

    Gird up your loins now, like a man. I will question you, and you tell me the answers!

    Would you refuse to acknowledge my right? Would you condemn me that you may be justified?

    Have you an arm like that of God, or can you thunder with a voice like his?

    Adorn yourself with grandeur and majesty, and array yourself with glory and splendor.

    Let loose the fury of your wrath;

    tear down the wicked and shatter them. Bring down the haughty with a glance;

    bury them in the dust together; in the hidden world imprison them.

    Then will I too acknowledge that your own right hand can save you.

     See, besides you I made Behemoth, that feeds on grass like an ox.

    Behold the strength in his loins, and his vigor in the sinews of his belly.

    He carries his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are like cables.

    His bones are like tubes of bronze; his frame is like iron rods.

    He came at the beginning of God's ways, and was made the taskmaster of his fellows;

    For the produce of the mountains is brought to him, and of all wild animals he makes sport.

    Under the lotus trees he lies, in coverts of the reedy swamp.

    The lotus trees cover him with their shade; all about him are the poplars on the bank.

    If the river grows violent, he is not disturbed; he is tranquil though the torrent surges about his mouth.

     Who can capture him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a trap?

     Can you lead about Leviathan with a hook, or curb his tongue with a bit?

    Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce through his cheek with a gaff?

    Will he then plead with you, time after time, or address you with tender words?

    Will he make an agreement with you that you may have him as a slave forever?

    Can you play with him, as with a bird? Can you put him in leash for your maidens?

     Will the traders bargain for him? Will the merchants divide him up?

    Can you fill his hide with barbs, or his head with fish spears?

    Once you but lay a hand upon him, no need to recall any other conflict!

Mike, if I could share another favorite verse, it would be in Psalm 104

"Bless the Lord, My Soul!
Lord, my God, you are great indeed!
You are clothed with majesty and glory,
robed in light as with a cloak.
You spread out the heavens like a tent;
you raised your palace upon the waters,
You make the clouds your chariot;
you travel on the wings of the wind.

..I will sing to the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God while I live."

Remark:

This passage reminds me of the beautiful majesty of The Lord, his abiding nature, and his outstretched hands. Praise The Lord, for he shall surely answer all prayers. Sweet man ta tanan sa Ginoo. Sweet like incense that rises like smoke unto the Throne of the Most High.

Through successes, failures, good times as well as the bad times, we should always sing praises sa Ginoo. Just like the prophet Job.

This is a view of my future apartment; which is a good 10-15 minute bike ride from the medical campus.

The cost of rent is very nice; its a one bedroom apartment. One thing that I liked was that most of my hall mates are medical students. My friend AJ, a 2nd year medical student, will be living down the hall from me.

View of the living room area; the land lord provides furniture, fridge, tv, etc. All included in the monthly due.

Another view of the fridge; note that the person living in this apartment is a 4th year medical student. She's moving out.

View of the kitchen/ cooking area.

View of the apartment's door/entrance.

Shower curtains

Bathroom; toilet. Cool looking toilet seat, me-thinks. lol.

Bedroom area.

I personally like it. Perhaps I'll have to change the curtains to something more befitting of my color interest; per se navy blue. My home for the next 4 years, lol.

Bran,

The Joy of the Lord is your strength. Always remember this line from Proverbs: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not in your own understanding - in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path."

I just read this today, Mike. :)

I thank all of you for your kind words and your prayers.

I was calm during orientation, well at least I tried to retain some semblance of stern reticence. lol.

I was elated kaayo to meet the acquaintance with the Dean of Students as well as the Director of Basic Sciences, the professors of Neuroanatomy, Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Medical Histology and Medical Legal Ethics. Very to the point ilang answers to my questions. It gave me a sense of relief.

I met 2nd year medical students, the ones that I owe alot of thanks for helping me get a nice and affordable apartment close to the medical campus is AJ, Jay, Dave, Iris, Ann. Their words were comforting, as well as encouraging. Additionally, they allowed me to follow them during their anatomy lab.

I'm excited because apparently my class will be receiving 10 new bodies (cadavers) that we will be preparing.

I felt small compared to some of my many contemporaries; many of whom have their Masters, a degree in Physical Therapy, some even have their Ph.Ds already.

One can feel the difference; my peers are a lot more serious as compared to undergraduate college.

Isaiah 12:1-5

"On that day, you will say:
I give you thanks O Lord;
though you have been angry with me,
your anger has abated, and you have consoled me.

God indeed is my savior;
I am confident and unafraid.
For My STRENGTH and My COURAGE is the LORD,
and he has been my savior.

With joy you will draw water
at the fountain of salvation, and say on that day;
Give thanks to the LORD, acclaim His name;
proclaim how exalted is His name.

Sing Praise to the LORD for his glorious achievement;
let this be known throughout all the earth."

Personal Remark

This verse has been inscribed in my note books; part of the whole verse or some of the verse, specifically. In times of need, trial, and in times of dire, in times of success and in times of great achievement. I look back at this passage and smile in elation. He is the hand the guides my path, the voice that consoles in times of need. And the Mighty Power that has allowed me to conquer the mountains in my path.

He is My Source of Inspiration. There is no comparison to the consolation of The Father. :)

The Most Loving Father, works his wonders and his power through each and everyone of us. All we have to do, brothers and sisters, is to open our hearts. Open our ears and listen; for those who can hear OUGHT to hear.

He calls each and everyone of us. Either we choose to hear and answer His calls is up to us.

My flight leaves tonight at 7:40 PM.

My sister and I are both leaving; as she will be helping me to go 'house-hunting' lol.

I am nervous to see my fellow medical students who will be there during orientation. Our first year's class is about 70 students.

Words that can describe my feelings right now are:

Anxious
Scared
Excited
Needing-prayer
Nostalgic-already

I wonder if the physicians felt this way when they first started their medical school orientation.

I will be part of 70 very competitive classmates. Of the 70, I am admitted into the dual Ph.D/M.D program.

So I feel very anxious and scared right now.

God please calm me. God please strengthen me. For I call unto you, only. My Strength. My Only Hope.
This I pray, through our Lord, Christ Jesus.

Amen.

Bran,

I remembered our chemistry experiment during college to measure the PH level using napthalene solution and then you drop some acid and at just one drop the solution will turn red and then you will reverse it again to colorless. I forgot already the procedure.

Probobly this procedure is just peanuts to you Lorenzo.

Ah yes, this is probably an organic-chemistry lab in naphthalene removal during electrolytic aeration. Naphthalene degradation of 45-70% happened electrolytically and had similar rates at a pH of 4 and 7. 1,4-naphthoquinone was identified as a product of the electrolysis.Stripping due to gases produced at the electrodes did not result in any naphthalene loss. We tried adding H204 (Hydrogen Peroxide; in 30% solution insitu) but was of no avail; purgation was punitive.

However, when we added Ferric Iron (Ferrous Iron), it resulted in a 70-100% disappearance of napthalene.

My lab partner and I also noticed that chlorine in high solution can significantly also degrade napthalene but only within ph of 3-4.

The lab experiment was to investigate chemical and physical processes that may result during electrolytic aeration of a contaminated aquifer using naphthalene as a model contaminant. Visual confirmation of the chemical change is seen in the change of color. Reappearance and Disappearance.

It is quite easy to degrade the solution and then to re add the solution.

Mr. Ferniz, what I was amazed was that the use of ferrous iron to treat contaminated aquifers is a common tool. My lab partner, who is now a PhD doctoral student in Inorganic Chemistry, in this particular specialty.

It never ceases to amaze me of the true ingenuity of the Filipino and his inherent intellect. Reading this article, I can see the purity of the 'spirit to adapt'. And it makes sense to apply something like this in the Philippines, where jungle trees are proliferative.

I remember reading a synopsis of something similar like this in our college lab reports. Believe me, it brought  inter-disciplinary dialogue between the Ecological Biology and Economics and Business Departments.

Mari, talking about art reminds me of one girl who I dated back in college several semesters ago.

Her name was Rosaline, and she was a sculpture art major. She would make bodies, or her favorite kinds of models to mold were ducks; all kinds of duck species. Sometimes she would sculpt swans.

I can still remember kissing her and holding her arm, i would feel the residues of clay and chalk still in between her fingers, and underneath her fingernails.

What a woman she was. I would sit with her at night; i would bring my books to study while she sculpted away at night.

LoL. I used to bring my pillows to her art room. I would sleep there some times because it would take her forever just to perfect a duck's head.

What a woman..
#44236
@ Ate Mari, Mao jud, that is what I call "Born Talent". You have this so called "Born Talent"

A gift that not everyone in this world is given.

Ever since I was a child, I always admired artistic children and artistic individuals.

I have friends in college who were art majors, and during my lunch breaks, I would sit in their art rooms and just watch them draw, paint, build. It always amazed me, totally, in seeing how they can make the image of a human being, with deep eyes, noses, facial expression. They would make 'life' out of coal, chalk, or mere paint.

It is a skill that I lack and I truly, absolutely bow to people with such skill.

Such a gift, no one but God can take away. :)

#44237
mao bitaw, correct jud ka, Ate Belle.

You know i was so shocked the last time I went over my friend Lee's house. Because when I went, Lee's parents were working and Lee's little brothers (12, 14 years old) were watching adult movies.

And when I saw this, because we were hanging downstairs, I pointed this out. Lee, to my astonishment, didn't do anything and just laughed.

I didn't say anything because they weren't my little brothers nor family. I, however, voiced my objection to Lee, but he just brushed it aside.

If I caught either of my brothers doing such things, and if my parents were at work. I would have already unleashed my own belt. No brother of mine will do that under my supervision; especially not if they are only between 12 and 14 y/o.

Tinuud jud ka, 'te, that kids nowadays are not only becoming socially lazy, but are also having low morals. They are exposed to sex and sexuality, profane languages, etc at such an early age. And are bombarded with these images on a daily basis.

In death, compose yourself

Thus says THE LORD,

My son, shed tears for one who is dead
with wailing and bitter lament;
as is only proper, prepare the body,
absent not yourself from his burial.

Weeping bitterly, mourning fully,
pay your tribute of sorrow, as he deserves,

One or two days, to prevent gossip;
then compose yourself after your grief,

For grief can bring on an extremity
and heartache destroys one's health.

Turn not your thoughts to him again;
cease to recall him; think rather on the end.

Recall him not, for there is no hope of his return!

It will not help him, but will do you harm!

Remember that his fate will also be yours;
for him it was yesterday, for you today.

With the departed dead, let memory fade;
rally your courage, once the soul has left!

In Sickness, Seek Help

Hold the physician in honor, for he is essential to you.
And God it was who established his profession.

From God the doctor has his wisdom,
and the king provides for his sustenance.

His knowledge makes the doctor distinguished.
and gives him access to those in authority.

God makes the earth yield healing herbs
which the prudent man should not neglect;

Was not the water sweetened by a twig that men might learn his power?

He endows men with the knowledge
to glory in his mighty works,

Through which the doctor eases pain
and the druggist prepares his medicines;

Thus, God's creative work continues without cease
in its efficacy on the surface of the earth.

My son, when you are ill, delay not,
but pray to God, who will heal you.

Flee wickedness; let your hands be just,
cleanse your heart of every sin.

Offer your sweet-smelling oblation and petition,

Everytime  I want to hang out with my brothers, they are all watching anime shows.

One time galing, I forced them two to come with me.

We went to go car washing; to wash my car. A more effective bonding experience than say, watching 'Naruto'.

Sometimes one must be vocal to exact change.

I agree with Kiams.

The tv shows here in the 'states are filled with gross and indecent commercial programs. I for one am disturbed at how they show "Girls gone wild" commercials in children's television networks such as Nickeleodeon.

Too much 'reality-shows' and not enough educational shows.

Too much focus on material wealth, and not on the process of achieving wealth.

Too much commercials on 'make-money-fast' gigs and not enough lessons on proper studies.

Too much shows on sex and sexuality and not enough 'family-oriented' shows or programs.

There are too many hackers.

Protect your information and your computer. Always update your anti-viral programs, anti-spyware, anti-bots.

I will just keep the reason to myself to avoid hurting others as I've been hurt. Since there are no secrets in this forum, I know somebody

     I am so thankful that I met some really good people and made some lasting friendships in Tubag Bohol. I hope I made you laugh and

I trusted my friend whom I've only met verbally in this forum.

Let's get back to discussions.

What does ‘born of Him’ mean? (1 John 2:29) From 1 John 2:29 show the connection John is making between being born of God and what kind of life he should live because of that new birth. How is this connected to 1 John 3:9? Put this verse in your own words.

Not everything, Ate Belle.

Pero, that particular passage is a favorite of mine :)

Deep kaayo ang message sa bible, 'te. It is impossible for a worthless impudent human sinner, like me, to ever completely understand everything that is written in Holy Scripture.

I try to understand as much as my inadequate mind allows. In the end, the goal is to have a broader understanding of Our Father in Heaven.

The goal is to have a better relation to Him, through reading scripture. Well, we should try at least.

Dodong naa kuy question kay i know where to find it.

Asa gani to nga verse kadtong nag ingon:

"ayaw na pahibaw-a ang imong wala nga kamot ug unsay kaayohan nga gihimo sa imong tuo nga kamot?"

That paraphrase can be seen in Matthew 6:1-4, which says:

"Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,  so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

I take this to mean, that when you give charity,ultimately it is from God , so He is glorified through you...

;)

You can even see this in the Talmud, Ate Belle, there are eight levels of "tzedakah," often translated as "charity".

They all help someone, but as one progresses through the levels, each is considered more meritorious than the previous one:

1) Giving begrudgingly
2) Giving less that you should, but giving it cheerfully.
3) Giving after being asked
4) Giving before being asked
5) Giving when you do not know the recipient's identity, but the recipient knows your identity
6) Giving when you know the recipient's identity, but the recipient doesn't know your identity
7) Giving when neither party knows the other's identity
8 ) Enabling the recipient to become self-reliant

Giving without expecting reward or even acknowledgment is considered part of giving when you know the recipient's identity but they don't know yours. It's not wrong to expect acknowledgment, but to do so lessens the benefit to the giver in terms of his/her spiritual growth.

Bible Study / Canticle of Habakkuk, the Prophet
July 20, 2008, 08:29:42 AM
Prayer of Habakkuk, the prophet. To a plaintive tune.

The Canticle of The Most High

O Lord, I have heard your renown,
and feared, O Lord, your work.

In the course of the years revive it,
in the course of the years make it known;
in your wrath remember compassion!

God comes from Teman,
the Holy One from Mount Paran.
Covered are the heavens with his glory,
and with his praise the earth is filled.

His splendor spreads like the light;
His rays shine forth from beside him,
where his power is concealed.

Before him goes pestilence,
and the plague follows in his steps.

He pauses to survey the earth;
his look makes the nations tremble.

The Eternal Mountains are shattered,
the age-old hills bow low
along his ancient ways.

I see the tents of Cushan collapse;
trembling are the pavilions of the land of Midian.

Is your anger against streams, O Lord?
Is your wrath against the streams,
your rage against the seas,
That you drive the steeds
of your victorious chariot?

Bared and ready is your bow,
filled with arrows is your quiver.
Into streams you split the earth;

At sight of you the mountains tremble.
A torrent of rain descends;
the ocean gives forth its roar.

The sun forgets to rise,
the moon remains in its shelter,
at the light of your flying arrows,
at the gleam of your flashing spear.

In your wrath you bestride the earth,
in fury you trample the nations.

You come forth to save your people,
to save your anointed one.

You crush the heads of the wicked,
you lay bare their bases at the neck.

You pierce with your shafts the heads of their princes
whose boast would be of devouring
the wretched in their lair.

You tread the sea with your steeds amid the churning of the deep waters.

I hear, and my body trembles;
at the sound, my lips quiver.
Decay invades my bones,
my legs tremble beneath me.
I await the day of distress
that will come upon the people who attack us.

For though the fig tree blossom not
nor fruit be on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive fail
and the terraces produce no nourishment,
Though the flocks disappear from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord
and Exult in my saving God.

God, my Lord, is my Strength;
he makes my feet swift as those of hinds
and enables me to go upon the heights.

The WORD of The LORD

Have we not all the one Father?
Has not the one God created us?
Why then do we break faith with each other,
violating the covenant of our fathers?!

Judah has broken faith; an abominable thing has been done in Israel and Jerusalem.
Judah has profaned the temple which the LORD Loves,
and has married an idolatrous woman.

May the Lord cut off from the man who does this
both witness and advocate out of the tents of Jacob
and anyone to offer sacrifices  to the Lord of Hosts!

This also you do: the altar of the Lord you cover
with tears, weeping and groaning,
Because he no longer regards your sacrifice
nor accepts it favorably from your hand
;

And you say, "Why is this?"--
Because the Lord is witness
between you and the wife of your youth,
With whom you have broken faith
though she is your companion, your betrothed wife.

Did he not make one being, with flesh and spirit:
and what does the one require but godly offspring?

You must then safeguard life that is your own,
and not break faith with the wife of your youth.

For I hate divorce,
says THE LORD, The God of Israel,
And covering one's garment with injustice,
says the Lord of Hosts;
You must then safeguard life that is your own,
And not break with it.

You have wearied the Lord with your words,
yet you say, "How have we wearied him?"

By your saying, "Every evildoer is good in the sight of the Lord,
And he is pleased with him",
or else, "Where is the just God?"

-Malachi 3: 10-17

The Word of The Lord

I abandon my house,
cast off my heritage;
The beloved of my soul I deliver
into the hand of her foes.

My heritage has turned on me
like a lion in the jungle;
Because she has roared against me,
I treat her as an enemy.

My heritage is a prey for hyenas,
is surrounded by vultures;
Come, gather together, all you beasts of the field,
come and eat!

Many shepherds have ravaged my vineyard,
have trodden my heritage underfoot;
The portion that delighted me they have turned into a desert waste!

They have made it a mournful waste,
desolate it lies before me,
Desolate, all the land,
because no one takes it to heart.

Upon every desert height
brigands have come up.

The Lord has a sword which consumes
the land, from end to end;
no peace for all mankind.

They have sown wheat and reaped thorns,
they have tired themselves out to no purpose!

They recoil before their harvest,
The Flaming anger of The Lord.

You know, O LORD,
that man is not master of his ways;
Man's course is not within his choice,
nor is it for him to direct his step.

Punish us, O LORD, but with equity,
not in anger, lest you have us dwindle away.

Pour out your wrath on the nations that know you not,
on the tribes that call not upon your name;

For they have devoured Jacob utterly,
and laid waste his dwelling.
