Youtube Replay / Re: 2016 Obama's America

2016, THE MOVIE
This afternoon my wife, our 16-year-old daughter and I went to see Dinesh D’Souza’s 2016 at a nearby theater. I believe the film opened here yesterday; the crowd was about average for 5:00 on a Saturday afternoon. The movie is very good. It has several virtues, starting with the fact that it is only an hour and a half long. (These days there is no premise so slight, no theme so insubstantial, no plot so thin but what the film takes 2 1/2 hours or more to unroll.)

2016 is beautifully shot and edited, as you would expect from a film that is produced by the same guy, Gerald Molen, who produced such movies as Rain Man, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List. It is actually entertaining, a quality not achieved by every documentary. My 16-year-old enjoyed it, so I think its appeal will be broad. Dinesh D’Souza, who appears frequently and is the principal narrator is a likable figure, and the similarities and contrasts he draws between himself and Obama are revealing and effective. It would be a great thing if many millions of people see 2016, as it would tell most people a great deal that they do not already know about our president.

I have not read D’Souza’s book, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, on which 2016 is based, but I have heard Dinesh lecture on it twice. In a nutshell, his theory is that Obama’s world-view can best be understood by reading his memoir, Dreams From My Father, and taking it seriously. Barack Obama Jr., Dinesh argues, has assumed the anti-colonialist, anti-Western, anti-American, anti-free enterprise perspective of his father, which explains much of his otherwise-puzzling conduct as president.

I think Dinesh is on to something here, and his premise helps explain, for example, why Obama returned Churchill’s bust, backs Argentina in the conflict over the Falklands, and tilts toward the Palestinians. My question about Dinesh’s theory is whether it explains the essence of Obama’s philosophy, or is more of a footnote, or, put another way, the icing on the cake. Without doubt, Obama’s rather tortured youth is an important part of his persona. His bigamist father, an “intellectual” who was in fact a repellent alcoholic poseur, abandoned his family when Barack Jr. was an infant, and Barack only saw him once thereafter. Further, Obama’s upbringing in Indonesia and Hawaii no doubt lends a certain exoticism to his thinking.

But do we really need Barack Obama Sr. to account for his son’s hostility toward America and its traditional beliefs and values? I don’t think so. Obama came of age, over a period of decades, in an environment that can charitably be described as hard-left. His father and mother were both socialists or worse. His maternal grandfather selected a mentor for young Barry who was a long-time member of the Communist Party USA. The socialist New Party listed him as a member. His friend, colleague and fundraiser Bill Ayers is a terrorist who says he wishes he had set off more bombs. His college professor Edward Said was the leading intellectual voice of those who want Israel destroyed. His law school mentor Roberto Unger was too far left for Brazil’s socialist party, and was sent back to Harvard, where he declined all interviews lest he endanger Obama’s electoral prospects. The minister who converted him to Christianity was Jeremiah “Gad damn America” Wright. You can go on and on.

My point is that the cornerstone belief of 20th and 21st century American leftism is that the United States is too rich and too powerful. This is not a perspective that is unique to Barack Obama; rather, it is common to essentially every modern American leftist. (I say this in part based on personal experience and observation.) To take just one of countless examples, Hillary Clinton marinated in the view that America needs to be cut down to size just as much as Obama did.

That being the case, Obama’s efforts in office to weaken America are consistent not just with his father’s ideology, but with the entire culture of American leftism. That he is no outlier is demonstrated by the fact that essentially the entire Democratic Party has cheered everything he has done in office, from trying to socialize health care to apologizing overseas for the U.S. So in my view, Obama’s unique background and his tortured relationship with his absent father do help to explain some otherwise-puzzling actions, like returning Churchill’s bust. But they are not needed to account for the broader failure of his administration’s policies. Put another way, the oft-stated belief that Hillary Clinton would have been a materially better president is wrong.

Of course, that doesn’t address the ultimate point of D’Souza’s movie: what will happen if we give Obama another four years? Obama’s urging Russia’s president to tell Vladimir Putin that in a second term he will have more “flexibility”â€"flexibility to sell out American interests, apparently, or what was the point?â€"is chilling. It certainly could be that in a second term, Obama’s anti-colonialist (i.e., anti-you and me) impulses could be fully unleashed, in a way that would make his first term look successful by comparison. Let’s not take that chance! If you haven’t seen 2016, I am pretty sure you will enjoy it, and if your undecided friends haven’t seen it, they should.

JOE UPDATES from Lower Manhattan (4:08 P.M.): Several of Manhattan’s more noted cineplexes are screening 2016, including the Union Square Regal, where the 2pm showing resulted nearly in a full house. It looks as though 2016 will gross around $7MM this weekend, which is a strong showing. As ever in New York, tourists stood out like a sore thumb, and the auditorium was, at least, half-tourist. The film was met with applause at the end (though I was the only one booing when Dartmouth College was entitled “Dartmouth University” in the closing credits). I generally agree with John’s sentiments. It is a forceful and entertaining film, and the conceit of a global chase for the prime mover of Barack Obama worked very nicely. Dinesh and John turned the former’s research into a very high quality narrated essay.

As usual with conservative art, it bothers me that we cannot produce professional looking products. Why was 2016 in 30p instead of 24p? Why did the colors look so bloated? Why does Dinesh’s microphone distort? Why was the stock footage so painfully stock-ish? Why was the stock music so painfully stock-ish? Why should the film switch back-and-forth between Dinesh reading from Dreams of My Father and the dreamer himself? These errors diminish the transporting quality of a film. Conservatism needs a better farm team in music and visuals.

Yet Dinesh and John put together such a clever yarn that the audience seemed (as I glanced around) transfixed. The story really picks up once we see Dinesh’s now-famous interview with George Obama, than whom there couldn’t be a kinder soul. He has every right to be cross with his neglectful, power-hungry brother; instead he calmly espouses a pro-western view while shrugging off Barack Obama’s neglect. The most powerful theme of Dinesh’s is that the motivations of Barack Obama lie far from Selma or Little Rock. It is not the oppression of slavery which motivates him, but the belief, mistaken, that, instead of earning it, the colonial west has stolen its wealth from its former imperial subjects. To which George Obama is the living counterproof: he observes that the nations that are healthy and wealthy are those that clung to the British yoke a bit longer, hated British ideas a bit less. Barack Obama is not come to redeem America’s genuine sin of past racism, but to redeem her fabricated sin of colonialism. And that’s why Barack Obama is, in spite of it all, quite a gullible man if not a stupid one. His talents really ought to have him in the sociology section of the Barnes & Noble instead of the White House.

Movie audiences find anti-Obama doc '2016'

LOS ANGELES â€" It wasn't backed by any Hollywood movie studio. Reviews were mostly negative. It premiered in Houston, not Los Angeles or New York. And yet despite the unconventional release of "2016: Obama's America," the movie is now among the most successful political documentaries of all time â€" and it doesn't show signs of cooling down ahead of the presidential election.

The conservative film exploring the roots of President Barack Obama's political views surprised the film industry when it took in $6.5 million to land at No. 7 at last weekend's domestic box office ahead of three new releases: the Joseph Gordon-Levitt action flick "Premium Rush," the Kristen Bell comedy "Hit and Run" and the Ashley Greene horror film "The Apparition."

That makes "2016" the most successful conservative documentary of all time. It's also the sixth overall highest grossing political documentary behind four Michael Moore movies and former Vice President Al Gore's environmental film "An Inconvenient Truth." It all adds up to a remarkable triumph for an indie film that circumvented the liberal waters of Hollywood.

The film has continued to do well during the slower weekday period, especially considering that it's been up against the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Since last weekend, it earned an additional $5.9 million for a total of $12.4 million, placing No. 3 at the domestic box office on Wednesday.

Distributed by Salt Lake City-based Rocky Mountain Pictures, "2016" is directed by Dinesh D'Souza, a former staffer for President Ronald Reagan who is now president of King's College in New York and author of several books, including "The Roots of Obama's Rage," the basis for "2016" that claims Obama's beliefs are rooted in the anti-colonialism of his late father, a Kenyan academic who was largely absent from the president's life.

The film premiered July 13 on one screen in Houston and slowly expanded over the past month to 1,091 theaters in such cities as Nashville, Tenn.; Baton Rouge, La.; Denver; Phoenix; Wichita, Kan.; and Washington, D.C. MJM Entertainment's Mark Joseph, who is handling the film's marketing, attested that "2016" had to be promoted differently than typical Hollywood fare.

"You can't just throw up your star on Thursday night on a talk show," said Joseph. "That's not how this works. The traditionalist audience needed to hear about the film much sooner than what Hollywood is used to doing. It's also important that they heard about it from people that they trust and admire. It's a different way of engaging the audience."

Joseph and the film's co-director, John Sullivan, launched a stealthy campaign for the film that attracted the attention and support of right-wing superstars like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Buzz for the movie simmered over the summer, bubbling up last weekend before the Republican convention kicked off Tuesday.

"Timing is everything," said Greg Mueller, a conservative strategist whose public relations firm is promoting "The Hope and The Change," a film about voters who formerly supported Obama that debuted Tuesday at the Republican convention and is now available on DVD. "Timing is everything in politics. It's even more important in political documentaries."

"Fahrenheit 9/11," director Michael Moore's assault on President George W. Bush, opened at No. 1 with $23.9 million in June 2004, averaging $27,558 in 868 theaters. It went on to become the top-grossing documentary ever released with $119.1 million domestically, a world away from "2016's" haul so far.

While the release of "2016" just before the Republican convention and its portrait of a gloomy future if Obama is re-elected might make the film feel like an hour-and-a-half-long political ad, the "2016" filmmakers said they only received funding from private investors, not the Republican party, and the movie's proceeds aren't headed to Mitt Romney's presidential bid.

"We wanted none of their involvement," said Gerald Molen, the film's Montana-based producer who previously worked on such mainstream Hollywood movies like "Days of Thunder" and "Jurassic Park," and who won an Oscar for "Schindler's List" in 1993. "It wouldn't have made sense to do that." He added that the film's estimated $2.5 million budget only came from about two dozen donors supporting D'Souza.

Hollywood has long been inspired by the political process, and such an affinity usually burns brighter during election season when audiences are attuned to politics, whether it's through recent fictional fare like the USA miniseries "Political Animals" and the Will Ferrell comedy "The Campaign" or Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," which came out before the 2004 election.

Alex Ben Block, a senior editor at The Hollywood Reporter doesn't think that "2016" will usher in a new era for right-wing films, but he believes the unexpected success of the conservative film might encourage likeminded filmmakers to carve out a similar path in landscape that was previously dominated by more liberal filmmakers like Moore. Ultimately, Block said moviegoers will vote at the box office with their dollars.

"'2016' has succeeded, but it's going to be very hard to duplicate," said Block. "These things are driven by politics and passion. They're driven by people who are trying to be noticed and make their point. It's a powerful combination when you have a documentary that can be both commercial and have a point of view."

Although "2016" has obviously found fans, most critics haven't been kind to the film. Newsday's Rafer Guzman called it an "attempt at character assassination." The Arizona Republic's Bill Goodykoontz deemed it "an exercise in preaching to the choir." The Los Angeles Times' Betsy Sharkey lambasted "2016" for being a "sluggish film" whose "outrage falls flat."

"I think '2016' has a nice gimmick because it purports to show what the future will look like right there in the title," said film critic Ben Mankiewicz, who dismissed the film as an actual documentary and is unsure what its unexpected success means for the film industry. "I think it is another reminder of how many people in this country find Obama so shockingly unlikesome that they are seemingly ready to believe the most nonsensical theories about him."

Many of the assertions D'Souza makes in the film to support his point that Obama's presidency is an expression of his father's third-world political beliefs don't hold up, including that Obama removed a bust of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from the Oval Office because Churchill represented British colonialism and that Obama has "done nothing" to impede Iran's nuclear ambitions. And there are other instances where the film takes liberties with the facts.

"I don't necessarily agree with everything that's in the movie," said Arthur Hobbs, a retired engineer who caught a Monday matinee of the film in Los Angeles with his wife after reading about it online. "But I do think that we really don't know everything about Obama, even after he's been in office for four years. I think that's why we needed to see this movie."

Molen said he expected the bad reviews. The filmmakers, who plan to expand the film to even more cities in the coming weeks and keep it in theaters until early October, aren't fazed by any negative reaction. They just hope now that conservative audiences have found "2016," perhaps left-leaning moviegoers will be curious enough to buy a ticket.

"My wish is that people see the film and make an informed decision," said Molen. "I would love people to see the film and come out of it saying, 'I need to know more. I need to find out more about this country and what we're designing for our kids, grandkids and great grandkids.' I just want this film to spark an interest in people to find out more."

MOVIE INFO

2016 Obama's America takes audiences on a gripping visual journey into the heart of the world's most powerful office to reveal the struggle of whether one man's past will redefine America over the next four years. The film examines the question, "If Obama wins a second term, where will we be in 2016?" Across the globe and in America, people in 2008 hungered for a leader who would unite and lift us from economic turmoil and war. True to America's ideals, they invested their hope in a new kind of president, Barack Obama. What they didn't know is that Obama is a man with a past, and in powerful ways that past defines him--who he is, how he thinks, and where he intends to take America and the world. Love him or hate him, you don't know him. --

swerte diay ko that i vehemently refused this bank's offer of a credit card.  i bank with banks nearest my place of residence, and in cebu this bank happens to be the nearest.  i've been its client as a savings account holder for more than 10 years now.

i applied for a checking account and was refused when they realized that i have no job nor business.  fine, if that's their policy.  then they checked my savings passbook.  i presumed it was to study its history of deposits and withdrawals.  the hard sell of the credit card followed.  you can trust me with credit but not with a checking account?  no way, i said.  that settled it.  i was never offered a credit card again, ever.
pagka kita sa savings passbook nga milyones ang sulod, of course they will offer you their credit card. wa jud ko masajop sa ahong pangagpas islander, you are richer than me

Commander in Chief

The president serves as commander in chief of the nation's armed forces. In addition to his powers over the military, the president has the authority to deploy those forces at his discretion, with congressional approval. He may also ask Congress to declare war on other nations.

this is in times of WAR. i am talking about now, in times of peace. this is the power obama has. naa nay daghang mga hungihong nga naa nay gusto mo revolt, naay gustong mo assasinate ni barako kay sobra na kaajo ijang gibuhat. he is abusing the use of his power. mapahimoslanon na silang duha ni michelle, travelling in junkets around the world samtang daghang mga tawo dere sa america gi pang gutom. kanunay intawon ko tampo sa simbahan ug mga canned goods nga gi distribute pod tawon nila to the hungry and homeless

note: sans religion-bashing, being muslim does not necessarily mean being anti-american.  it's just that those who attacked the u.s. (9/11, u.s. diplomatic posts, etc.) happen to be muslim.  pity those millions of muslims who are peace-loving and have nothing to do with these attacks.

wa may kalainan ning condemnation sa pag-ingon nga hollywood is america, and because hollywood people f**k just about anyone, then americans f**k just about anyone.  wrong, very wrong, sir balong.  it is never advisable to generalize anything.

sa una ra ba, niingon to si marlon brando nga "filipinos are sly".  gapasabot ba nga kamong tanan dinha nga pinoy sa u.s. sly, meaning, abilidaran sa pangilad?  di sakto.  okay?

so please don't condemn a whole people who follow a different religious faith.  we are no longer in the dark ages.

i am not bashing muslims . i respect all faiths and religions. in fact, in my travels around the world, i was able to pray inside one of the largest mosques in the world, in turkey.  let muslims paray to allah and i pray to JESUS CHRIST. ang naka apan lang aning muslims kay manghilabot. nahitabo ni sa england. naay usa ka simbahan didto nga dili na maka bagting sa ilang lingganay kay dihay usa ka muslim mi protesta

OBAMA’S MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD TIES
By: Robert Spencer
2/8/2011 03:01 AM

Barack Obama has declared that all opposition groups should have representation in the next Egyptian government, which essentially ensures that the Muslim Brotherhood will be part of that government.  The Brotherhood is the largest opposition group in Egypt, so it will probably end up in the driver’s seat in any new regime, and steer Egypt toward becoming an Islamic state inveterately hostile to the United States.

So why isn’t Obama working to limit the Brotherhood’s scope and influence?  Maybe because he doesn’t really have a problem with the Brotherhood, despite its hostility to America.  He made sure to invite Brotherhood leaders to attend his notorious speech to the Islamic world in Cairo, Egypt, in June 4, 2009.  Starting in the earliest days of his administration, he showed an intense desire to establish friendly ties with Brotherhood-linked organizationsâ€"despite the Brotherhood’s stated goal of “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within.”

Obama first reached out to the Brotherhood when he chose the leader of a Muslim Brotherhood-linked group that had been named an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case to give a prayer during his inauguration ceremonies.  Ingrid Mattson, then-president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), offered this prayer at the National Cathedral on Obama’s Inauguration Dayâ€"despite the fact that the ISNA has admitted its ties to the Brotherhood.  The previous summer, federal prosecutors rejected a request from the ISNA to remove its unindicted co-conspirator status.

Obama didn’t ask Mattson to explain the ISNA’s links to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.  On the contrary:  He sent his senior adviser, Valerie Jarrett, to be the keynote speaker at the ISNA’s national convention in 2009.

Even worse, in April 2009, Obama appointed Arif Alikhan, the deputy mayor of Los Angeles, as assistant secretary for policy development at the Department of Homeland Security.  Just two weeks before he received this appointment, Alikhan (who once called the jihad terror group Hezbollah a “liberation movement”) participated in a fund-raiser for the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC).  Like the ISNA, MPAC has links to the Muslim Brotherhood.  In a book titled In Fraternity:  A Message to Muslims in America, co-author Hassan Hathout, a former MPAC president, is identified as “a close disciple of the late Hassan al-Banna of Egypt.  “The MPAC-linked magazine The Minaret spoke of Hathout’s closeness to al-Banna in a 1997 article:  “My father would tell me that Hassan Hathout was a companion of Hassan al-Banna. … Hassan Hathout would speak of al-Banna with such love and adoration; he would speak of a relationship not guided by politics or law but by a basic sense of human decency.”

The late al-Banna, of course, was the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Terror researcher Steven Emerson’s Investigative Project has documented MPAC’s indefatigable and consistent opposition to virtually every domestic anti-terror initiative.  Its magazine The Minaret has dismissed key counterterror operations as part of “[t]he American crusade against Islam and Muslims.”  For his part, while Alikhan was deputy mayor of Los Angeles, he blocked a Los Angeles Police Department project to assemble data about the ethnic makeup of mosques in the Los Angeles area.  This was not an attempt to conduct surveillance of the mosques or monitor them in any way.  LAPD Deputy Chief Michael P. Downing explained that it was actually an outreach program:  “We want to know where the Pakistanis, Iranians, and Chechens are so we can reach out to those communities.”  But Alikhan and other Muslim leaders said that the project manifested racism and “Islamophobia,” and the LAPD ultimately discarded all plans to study the mosques.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a pro-Sharia group.  Obama’s chief adviser on Islamic affairs, Dalia Mogahed, is a pro-Sharia Muslim.  In their Gallup survey published under the hubristic title “Who Speaks for Islam?  What A Billion Muslims Really Think,” Mogahed and Saudi-funded dhimmi, or non-Muslim, pseudo-academic John Esposito cooked their data to increase the number of Muslim “moderates,” counting as “moderate” Muslims who wanted Sharia rule, hated America , supported jihad-martyrdom suicide bombing, and opposed equality of rights for women.  Mogahed also defended Sharia on a British TV show.

With Brotherhood operatives in the American government and working closely with it, thanks to Barack Obama, it’s no surprise that he would have no problem with their being part of the Egyptian government too.

Obama's Secret Plot To Bring 100 Million Muslims to the US
Behold the mother of all anti-Obama conspiracy theories.

In the past few years, paranoid conservatives have cooked up all sorts of conspiracy theories about President Barack Obama. Some have claimed he has a secret plan to confiscate guns. Others have said he has a secret plan to confiscate IRA accounts. Still others have contended he's setting up clandestine FEMA concentration camps. And, of course, there's the big one: Obama's is an undercover socialist purposefully trying to wreck the US economy so he can implement a dictatorial takeover. But here's the mother of all right-wing conspiracy theories: Obama is scheming to bring tens of millions of Muslimsâ€"perhaps up to 100 millionâ€"from the Middle East into the United States in order to turn this country into an Islamic nation by the end of his second term.

Fortunately, this diabolical plan has been exposed by an American-born Israeli named Avi Lipkin, who says he once was a translator for the Israeli government, and an outfit called Special Guests, which books conservative commentators and advocates on popular television and radio talk shows. Lipkin's website claims that since 1990 he has lectured on various topicsâ€"including the threat of Islam and Israelâ€"in over 1000 churches and synagogues in the United Sates, Canada, England, Greece, Israel, and other countries. His bio notes that he heads the Judeo-Christian Bible Bloc party in Israel. (The party's Facebook page listed 103 members yesterday.)

This week, Lipkin and Special Guests sent an email to television and radio bookers pitching the biggest story of all time:

According to Arabic language broadcasts intercepted and interpreted by Lipkin and his team, "The Moslem world is saying that President Obama wants amnesty for the current Hispanic 12 million illegal immigrants in the US in order to pave the way for the next wave of tens of millions of illegals from the Middle East to the United States, leading to 50 to 100 million Muslims living in the US before the end of Obama’s second term, which will be brought forth by these new US citizens voting for their savior, Obama."

Lipkin, who also goes by the name Victor Mordechai, claims to have "a source with a senior United Nations official" (whatever that means) who says that the United States "will be a Muslim country by the end of Obama's second term." This grand plan is so organized that it even has three parts. Phase One: Obama foments unrest in "each Middle East country" so that these regimes are toppled and replaced by "fanatic" Sunni Mulsims, who go on to "overthrow the competing Shiite regime in Iran without involving American troops." Phase Two: A massive exodus of Muslims heads toward Europe, Canada, and the Unites States, turning all of these Western nations into Muslim countries. Phase Three: The nations now controlled by Islamic extremists "march on Israel in an effort to destroy it" and Obama "keeps his promise…to destroy Israel."

Of course, there's a YouTube video (embedded below) that explains Lipkin's scoop. It's called, "Is Barack Obama Really A Saudi/Muslim 'Plant' in the White House?" The answer is obvious. The video claims that "for years before" the 2008 election, Lipkin's wife, who worked for the Israeli government monitoring Arabic radio broadcasts, picked up broadcasts of Saudis saying, "We will have a a Muslim in the White House in 2008." (Remember Obama's bow before the Saudi king in 2009? Wink, wink.) The video notes that Obama has refused "to reveal" his long-form birth certificate "or anything else about his past." (Convergence with the birthers!) The video suggests that Obama and his crew have pulled off the "greatest…scam in history" and "put an anti-American and Saudi-sponsored Muslim in the White House, thanks to a brain-dead American public and news media, both obsessed with skin color and an American Idol mentality." The video goes on to say that in 2009 Lipkin's wife listened to an Egyptian television broadcast featuring the then-foreign minister saying that Obama had sworn to him that he was a Muslim. Obamaâ€"according to Lipkin's account of his wife's account of the foreign minister's accountâ€"also told this Egyptian official that after he finished with the health care debate, "You Muslims will see what I will do for Islam regarding Israel."

The video does not specifically cover Obama's secret scheme to bring up to 100 million Muslims into the United States. But isn't that what a Saudi plant would do?

Avi Lipkin puts Glenn Beck to shame as a conspiracy theorist. But though he's on the fringe, he's not on his own. His video has been viewed 2.9 million times. And Special Guests is an outfit that works within the conservative establishment. According to its website, the organization has collaborated with the National Right To Life Committee, the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, the Second Amendment Foundation, and other conservative groups. The site boasts, "We regularly place guests on radio shows including Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity Radio, [and] Michael Savage." The group says it only promotes causes that "are pleasing to The Maker, our Creator." It asks potential clients, "What is your special message? Is it helpful to humanity? Is it God-honoring?" Apparently, it pleases God to accuse the president of covertly plottingâ€"and implementing!â€"a Muslim takeover of the United States.

The scandal surrounding the GSA spending spree surprises me. Obama has been on a depraved personal spending spree throughout the presidency, but never a critical word is uttered by his big media propaganda arm. The worse the economy has gotten, the more obscene Obama and Michelle's spending has gotten.

Where is the outcry?

I, for one, as an overtaxed American, am sick of it. It kicked off as early as his inauguration. Obama spent an obscene 150 million dollars on his inauguration. The media rejoiced in his decadence. Bush, OTOH, was raked over the coals for spending a fraction of what Obama spent on his inauguration. And Obama did it fresh off the economic crisis that shook the nation and catapulted him to the presidency.

Where was the outrage?

That was just the kickoff to a four-year spending spree never seen before in the presidential annals of America. $100 kobe steaks, 20 million vacation home rental on Martha's Vineyard, $100,000 dinner dates with Michelle, and her obscene wardrobe expenses (and how the media went after Sarah Palin for her rather pedestrian campaign wardrobe), and Michelle's $10m in public money on her vacations: expensive massages, top-shelf vodka and five-star hotels, not to mention Michelle jetting off to Hawaii with the kids for a 17-day vacation before the President can leave. And then there are his hundreds of golf games....

Sick.

Taxpayers footed the million-dollar bill for Obama's 13 year-old daughter, Malia, along with 12 of her BFFs to party on spring break in Mexico. Media silence at a time when Americans are struggling under Obama's 15-trillion-dollar deficit.

Who foots bill when Obama travels? Washington Times (hat tip Laura)

Answer gets murky on combined campaign-official trips

When President Obama traveled to Florida this week, he sandwiched a partisan speech at Florida Atlantic University between two multimillion-dollar fundraisers for his 2012 campaign, allowing him to label at least part of the trip to a critical battleground state as official business.

While Mr. Obama can rely on Air Force One and other military aircraft at his disposal for official business, federal election laws require his campaign to pay for these presidential perquisites at just a fraction of the cost â€" the equivalent of a commercial airline ticket â€" whenever he or other administration officials are using federal government resources for political activity.

Yet, like most of his recent predecessors, Mr. Obama has shown a penchant for piggybacking fundraisers onto official trips, and figuring out the details of how much the Obama campaign must reimburse taxpayers for the mixed trips is complicated and opaque, confounding presidential scholars and even the most experienced federal election law experts.

“Nobody knows how much the travel has to be paid for by either the Democratic National Committee or the president's campaign committee, or how they come up with the data, or how long they have to reimburse it after the travel takes place,” said Brett Kappel, an expert on election law at Arent Fox. “It’s a total mystery â€" it’s a black box.”

Brendan Doherty, a political science professor at the U.S. Naval Academy and an authority on presidential fundraising and travel, said he has been unable to figure out the cost of presidential campaign travel for Mr. Obama, as well as presidents that preceded him.

President Obama can use Air Force One and military aircraft for official business, but federal election laws require reimbursement for political travel. His Florida trip combined official and campaign events. (Associated Press)
“I’ve never been able to find anything concrete, so we never know the bottom-line cost of any presidential trip,” he said.

Despite Mr. Obama’s pledge to run the most transparent administration in history, the White House and the Obama campaign have done little to clarify the situation.

Michelle Obama's trip to Spain--complete with shots of the first lady touring town in a swoon-worthy Jean Paul Gaultier top--is not playing too well in the media. Though the first lady, her daughter, and the first lady's friends assembled for the vacation are traveling as "private citizens," as Press Secretary Gibbs has emphasized, and paying their own expenses, a few columnists aren't wild about the optics during tense economic times.

'Modern-Day Marie Antoinette'  Andrea Tantaros at New York Daily News is the first to make the call. The problem for her, though, is not so much the excess  itself as the excess on the public dime, as well as the hypocrisy:
[Sacrifice] was a key theme in President Obama's inaugural address to the nation ... But while most of the country is pinching pennies and downsizing  summer sojourns--or forgoing them altogether--the Obamas don't seem to be heeding their own advice ... To be clear, what the Obamas do with their money is one thing; what they do with ours is another. Transporting and housing the estimated 70 Secret Service agents who will flank the material girl will cost the taxpayers a pretty penny ... I don't begrudge anyone rest and relaxation when they work hard. We all need downtime--the First Family included. It's the extravagance of Michelle Obama's trip and glitzy destination contrasted with President Obama's demonization of the rich that smacks of hypocrisy
'Let Them Eat Arugula'  The Charleston Daily Mail's Don Surber comments on Matt Drudge's choice to run Michelle Obama's Spanish sojourn next to a headline about the number of Americans receiving food stamps. "Participation has set records for 18 straight months," says Bloomberg News; "Obama has been president for 18+ months," comments Surber, and, meanwhile, Michelle Obama is going on about a kitchen garden.
'First Ladies Often Go on Vacations,' acknowledges the Chicago Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet, and Michelle Obama and the friends with whom she is seeing Spain pay for their personal expenses, though not the security. "The issue," says Sweet, "for Mrs. Obama may be how many" vacations she is taking:
New York in March; Chicago, over Memorial Day; Los Angeles in June; Camp David -- sort of an extension of the White House -- in July; Maine in July, to highlight Acadia National Park, and now Spain. Mrs. Obama is glamorizing Spain's coastal resorts before her Aug. 14 first family weekend visit to Florida's Gulf Coast, to encourage tourists scared away by the oil spill. Starting Aug. 19, the Obamas will spend 10 days in Martha's Vineyard.
The Way to Do This Right  "Way, way back in 2004," writes Nick Gillespie Reason, "... the accomplished doctor-wife of insurgent candidate Howard Dean got it right when she pulled a Dennis Thatcher and refused to be a public player in her spouse's campaign." This, he says, should be the model: "there, for a brief, shining moment, was an idea that rulers should live like the people they govern because, after all, they weren't any different."

Michelle Obama Criticized as "Modern-day Marie Antoinette" Over Spain Vacation

Andrea Tantaros has penned a scorching editorial for the New York Daily News deeming First Lady Michelle Obama a "modern-day Marie Antoinette" for her vacation in Spain with her daughter.

"The First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her 'closest friends,'" Tantaros writes, pointing to a CNN report that Michelle Obama and her group are expected to occupy 60 to 70 rooms. "Not exactly what one would call cutting back in troubled times."

Tantaros goes on to criticize the first lady for traveling abroad instead of within the United States, something that would help the U.S. economy.

"Michelle Obama seems more like a modern-day Marie Antoinette - the French queen who spent extravagantly on clothes and jewels without a thought for her subjects' plight - than an average mother of two," she writes. "... I don't begrudge anyone rest and relaxation when they work hard. We all need downtime - the First Family included. It's the extravagance of Michelle Obama's trip and glitzy destination contrasted with President Obama's demonization of the rich that smacks of hypocrisy and perpetuates a disconnect between the country and its leaders."

According to the White House, Mrs. Obama is traveling with minimal staff and a small group of family friends for a mother daughter trip long in the works.

The FIrst Lady's press office referred to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs' statement at the White House briefing yesterday that "the First Lady is on a private trip."

"She is a private citizen and is the mother of a daughter on a private trip," he said. "And I think I'd leave it at that."

CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports the C-32A (757) the First Lady used to fly to Spain - one of the planes that usually serves as Air Force Two, and sometimes Air Force One - operates at a Department of Defense reimbursement rate of $11,351 per hour.

So a 6.5 hour flight to Spain would run $73,781.50 - double for the round trip.

The White House says that as a policy, official trips by the first family are paid by the government but all personal elements paid are personally. Since this is a private trip, the White House seems to be suggesting that the Obamas are personally paying all costs associated with the vacation.

But there appears to be some wiggle room there, in part because the Secret Service must protect the First Family, and the cost to taxpayers would presumably go up during travel.

A few years ago, as Knoller notes, the Government Accountability Office did an analysis of presidential travel at the behest of Congress. The Secret Service refused to divulge how many personnel and costs are associated with safeguarding a protectee during a trip, citing its policy to not give up information that might be used to gauge a level of protection.

China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho
By Michael, on June 8th, 2011
Thanks to the trillions of dollars that the Chinese have made flooding our shores with cheap products, China is now in a position of tremendous economic power.  So what is China going to do with all of that money?  One thing that they have decided to do is to buy up pieces of the United States and set up "special economic zones" inside our country from which they can continue to extend their economic domination.  One of these "special economic zones" would be just south of Boise, Idaho and the Idaho government is eager to give it to them.  China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach for short) plans to construct a "technology zone" south of Boise Airport which would ultimately be up to 50 square miles in size.  The Chinese Communist Party is the majority owner of Sinomach, so the 10,000 to 30,000 acre "self-sustaining city" that is being planned would essentially belong to the Chinese government. The planned "self-sustaining city" in Idaho would include manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail centers and large numbers of homes for Chinese workers.  Basically it would be a slice of communist China dropped right into the middle of the United States.

According to the Idaho Statesman, the idea would be to build a self-contained city with all services included.  It would be modeled after the "special economic zones" that currently exist in China.

Perhaps the most famous of these "special economic zones" is Shenzhen.  Back in the 1970s, Shenzhen was just a very small fishing village.  Today it is a sprawling metropolis of over 14 million people.

If the Chinese have their way, we will soon be seeing these "special economic zones" pop up all over the United States.

So exactly who is "Sinomach"?

The following description of the company comes directly from the website of Sinomach....

With approval of the State Council, China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) was established in January 1997. SINO-MACH is a large scale, state-owned enterprise group under the supervision of the State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.

As you can see, Sinomach is basically an arm of the Chinese government.

The borrower is always the servant of the lender, and now China is buying up America.

The reality is that Sinomach is not looking only at Idaho.  Sinomach is in discussions to develop "special economic zones" all over the United States.

Sinomach has recently dispatched delegations to Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania to explore the possibility of establishing "special economic zones" in those states.

Will such "self-contained communities" soon start appearing from coast to coast?

According to Dr. Jerome Corsi, the U.S. government has already set up 257 "foreign trade zones" across America.  These "foreign trade zones" will apparently be given "special U.S. customs treatment" and will be used to promote global free trade....

"The FTZs tend to be located near airports, with easy access into the continental NAFTA and WTO multi-modal transportation systems being created to move free-trade goods cheaply, quickly and efficiently throughout the continent of North America."

So what do our politicians think about all of this?

Most of them are greatly in favor of it.

"Idaho’s the last state that should say we don’t want to do business with Asia," Idaho Lt. Gov. Brad Little said last year. "Asia’s where the money is."

So will all of this "foreign investment" really bring jobs back to the American people?

Perhaps a few, but the truth is that these "special economic zones" that the Chinese are setting up are designed to be self-contained communist Chinese communities.  Some Americans will likely be employed in these areas, but not nearly as many as our politicians would have you to believe.

In addition, these "special economic zones" represent a massive national security threat.  The communist Chinese could potentially be able to bring in and store massive amounts of military equipment virtually undetected.

In the days of the Cold War, we would have never dreamed of giving the Russians a 50 square mile city in the middle of Idaho.

But today we have become convinced that the communist Chinese want to be our great friends.

The following quote originally appeared in the Idaho Statesman, but has since apparently been taken down....

"The Chinese are looking for a beachhead in the United States," said Idaho Commerce Secretary Don Dietrich. "Idaho is ready to give them one."

Indeed.

If relations between the U.S. and China go south someday, we will deeply regret giving China so many open doors.

The truth is that you can never fully trust the communist Chinese.  Their top military officers talk about a coming conflict with the United States all the time.  China is extremely interested in North America.  In fact, the Chinese and the Mexicans have even been holding talks on military cooperation.

But even if you don't consider the communist Chinese to be a military threat, you should be deeply concerned about the economic implications of what is happening.

Today, tens of millions of Americans are wondering why the economy is so bad.

Well, there are a lot of reasons, but the fact that we have sent China thousands of our factories, millions of our jobs and trillions of dollars of our national wealth is a major contributing factor.

If you do not know the truth about how badly the Chinese economy is wiping the floor with the Americen economy then you need to read this article: "40 Signs The Chinese Economy Is Beating The Living Daylights Out Of The U.S. Economy".

Beautiful new infrastructure is going up all over China today, and meanwhile many of our once great manufacturing cities are turning into rotted-out war zones.

China would not be what they are today if we had insisted that they abandon the communist system and respect basic human rights before we ever opened up trade with them.

But that did not happen.  Instead we enthusiastically welcomed China into the WTO and we let the predatory Chinese system run wild.

In 2010, China had a "current account balance" of over 272 billion dollars, which was the largest in the world.

In 2010, the United States had a "current account balance" of negative 561 billion dollars.  According to the CIA world factbook, that put us in last place in the entire world. In fact, our negative current account balance was more than 9 times larger than anyone else in the world.  If you go check out this chart it will give you a really good idea of how nightmarish our trade situation has become.

The world is changing and nothing is ever going to be the same again.

Just ask the residents of Boise, Idaho - they are about to have a 50 square mile self-contained communist Chinese city plopped right into their backyard.

the u.s. recession officially started in december, 2008, during the presidency of george w., a republican.  it did not happen overnight, naturally.  thus one can safely say that the run-up to the recession happened during the term of president bush and broke loose at the end of his term.  obama simply inherited it.

some economists (nobel awardee paul krugman, for one), point to republican partisanship as the reason why the u.s. can't seem to get out
of its current financial quagmire.

this is a good read, though a very long one.  but here one can get a clearer picture of the reasons for the u.s. financial slump:

A Chinese Group Plans To Construct A 200 Acre "China City" In Michigan
By Michael, on May 9th, 2012
A Chinese group known as "Sino-Michigan Properties LLC" has bought up 200 acres of land near the town of Milan, Michigan.  Their plan is to construct a "China City" with artificial lakes, a Chinese cultural center and hundreds of housing units for Chinese citizens.  Essentially, it would be a little slice of communist China dropped right into the heartland of America.  This "China City" would be located about 40 minutes from both Detroit and Toledo, and it would be marketed to Chinese business people that want to start businesses in the United States.  Unfortunately, this is not just an isolated incident.  In fact, Chinese companies have been buying up land and businesses all over the country in recent years.  There has even been talk of establishing "special economic zones" inside the United States modeled after the Chinese city of Shenzhen.  It was inevitable that the Chinese were going to do something with the trillions of dollars that they have made flooding our shores with cheap products.  Now they are rapidly buying up pieces of America, and many of our politicians are welcoming them with open arms.

The town of Milan, Michigan is a small farming community of only about 6,000 people, but big changes are coming their way.  The following is from a recent Dayton Daily News article about this new project....

A group of mainland Chinese known as Sino-Michigan Properties LLC paid $1.9 million for 200 acres of farmland on Milan city limits in purchases this year and in 2011, according to local officials and property records.

Unfortunately, the goal does not appear to be to integrate this new "city" into the existing community in and around Milan.

Rather, it appears that all of the new housing will be sold to people coming over from China.  According to the Milan News Leader newspaper, the new housing units "would be marketed to Chinese business people who want to start companies in the United States".

In essence, we would be looking at a new Chinese city right in the middle of Michigan.

Doug Smith, senior vice president for business and community development for the Michigan Economic Development Corp., recently said the following about what the Chinese group plans to do....

"It’s a group that wants to build a China city, starting with housing over there in Milan"

Milan is not far from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, which is a very popular destination for Chinese students.  Apparently that is one reason why Milan was chosen.

This new project would be a Chinese community built by Chinese and specifically designed for Chinese.

But isn't this supposed to be America?

Fortunately, the project does not have final approval yet.  It still must be approved by the two townships outside of Milan where the land is located.

For some reason, the Chinese seem to be particularly interested in this area of the country.

For example, a different Chinese investment group has been busy buying up chunks of real estate over in nearby Toledo, Ohio.  The following is from an article in the Toledo Blade on May 26th, 2011....

Dashing Pacific Group Ltd., which has already purchased the nearby Docks restaurant complex for $2.15 million, put its $3.8 million offer to buy the southern 69 acres at the Marina District in East Toledo back on the table for approval by Toledo City Council. Additionally, Dashing Pacific Chairman Yuan Xiaohong, in a letter signed in Hangzhou, said the firm wants a two-year option to buy the decommissioned Toledo Edison power plant property on the site.

So should we be alarmed that the Chinese are buying up pieces of America?

Well, if they simply wanted to enjoy living in America and wanted to integrate into the wider community that would be one thing.

But it is another thing altogether to start dropping slices of communist China inside of U.S. territory.

In a previous article entitled "China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho", I discussed a potential deal that Sinomach (a company controlled by the Chinese government) was exploring with the government of Idaho.  The following is a description of that potential project from an article in the Idaho Statesman....

A Chinese national company is interested in developing a 10,000- to 30,000-acre technology zone for industry, retail centers and homes south of the Boise Airport.

There was talk that this "technology zone" would be modeled after the "special economic zones" that have been developed in China.  The city of Shenzhen is perhaps the most famous example of this.

Fortunately that deal appears to have stalled, but other mammoth deals have been moving forward in other parts of the country.

For example, the Chinese have been very busy gobbling up oil and gas fields.  The following is a quote from a local Texas news source about a deal that a company owned by the Chinese government did with Chesapeake Energy down in Texas....

State-owned Chinese energy giant CNOOC is buying a multibillion-dollar stake in 600,000 acres of South Texas oil and gas fields, potentially testing the political waters for further expansion into U.S. energy reserves.

With the announcement Monday that it would pay up to $2.2 billion for a one-third stake in Chesapeake Energy assets, CNOOC lays claim to a share of properties that eventually could produce up to half a million barrels a day of oil equivalent.

You can read more about that particular deal right here.

So is it really a good idea to be allowing the Chinese to buy up our precious energy resources?

The answer to that question is obvious.

Sadly, the examples noted above are not isolated incidents.  The truth is that the Chinese have been snapping up real estate and business assets all over America as a recent Forbes article explained....

According to a recent report in the New York Times, investors from China are “snapping up luxury apartments” and are planning to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on commercial and residential projects like Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn. Chinese companies also have signed major leases at the Empire State Building and at 1 World Trade Center, the report said.

So get ready - the Chinese are buying up U.S. land and they are moving in whether you like it or not.

So what will the long-term consequences be of allowing a communist superpower to buy up large sections of America?

That is a very good question.

the article as posted by sir balong emblazons "Obamaville...", implying that the shanties are courtesy of obama and his administration or, at least, these are credited to obama and his policies.

sa wala pa ma presidente si obama, diha nay mga shanty towns dinhi sa states. karon nga na presidente na si obama mi samot na ug ka daghan ang shanty towns meaning to say, obama has done nothing to improve the situation. this is the reason why they are called obamavilles. kay unsaon man, porya gaba, way alamag ni si obama. perteng boloka jamo. kay ang ijang gibuhat, mag sigi lang ug pangutang para sa iyang mga programa nga way kaposlanan. look at his stimulus bills. ang na bulahan lang ang iyang mga cronies sa negosyo. it has done nothing to provide more jobs. kong wala nay mag pa utang, mag print na pod ug dollars ang batabata ni obama nga si bernanke. all the more nga ma devalue ang US dollar. sauna 50 pesos pay baylo sa 1 dollar. karon about 42 pesos na lang. kong dili na mag pa utang ang china asa na man padong ang states.

the original article's title was Cities Deal With a Surge in Shantytowns, which first appeared on 25 march 2009 in the new york times (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/26/us/26tents.html?pagewanted=all&_moc.semityn.www).

another version of this article appeared the following day in the same paper, as an end tag to this article, a tag that appears at the end of sir balong's posts (i.e., "A version of this article appeared in print on March 26, 2009, on page A1 of the New York edition with the headline: Tent Cities Arise and Spread in Recession’s Grip.")

obama won as president in november 2008 and took office in january 2009.  these original articles appeared two months after, in march.

blast me for crediting a two-month-old president with these shantytowns as if these sprouted like magic because of him.  this is even beyond a brief suspension of disbelief.  more so when this article is resurrected four years after with a tweaked title.

FRESNO, Calif. â€" As the operations manager of an outreach center for the homeless here, Paul Stack is used to seeing people down on their luck. What he had never seen before was people living in tents and lean-tos on the railroad lot across from the center.

“They just popped up about 18 months ago,” Mr. Stack said. “One day it was empty. The next day, there were people living there.”

Like a dozen or so other cities across the nation, Fresno is dealing with an unhappy déjà vu: the arrival of modern-day Hoovervilles, illegal encampments of homeless people that are reminiscent, on a far smaller scale, of Depression-era shantytowns. At his news conference on Tuesday night, President Obama was asked directly about the tent cities and responded by saying that it was “not acceptable for children and families to be without a roof over their heads in a country as wealthy as ours.”

While encampments and street living have always been a part of the landscape in big cities like Los Angeles and New York, these new tent cities have taken root â€" or grown from smaller enclaves of the homeless as more people lose jobs and housing â€" in such disparate places as Nashville, Olympia, Wash., and St. Petersburg, Fla.

In Seattle, homeless residents in the city’s 100-person encampment call it Nickelsville, an unflattering reference to the mayor, Greg Nickels. A tent city in Sacramento prompted Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to announce a plan Wednesday to shift the entire 125-person encampment to a nearby fairground. That came after a recent visit by “The Oprah Winfrey Show” set off such a news media stampede that some fed-up homeless people complained of overexposure and said they just wanted to be left alone.

The problem in Fresno is different in that it is both chronic and largely outside the national limelight. Homelessness here has long been fed by the ups and downs in seasonal and subsistence jobs in agriculture, but now the recession has cast a wider net and drawn in hundreds of the newly homeless â€" from hitchhikers to truck drivers to electricians.

“These are able-bodied folks that did day labor, at minimum wage or better, who were previously able to house themselves based on their income,” said Michael Stoops, the executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, an advocacy group based in Washington.

The surging number of homeless people in Fresno, a city of 500,000 people, has been a surprise. City officials say they have three major encampments near downtown and smaller settlements along two highways. All told, as many 2,000 people are homeless here, according to Gregory Barfield, the city’s homeless prevention and policy manager, who said that drug use, prostitution and violence were all too common in the encampments.

“That’s all part of that underground economy,” Mr. Barfield said. “It’s what happens when a person is trying to survive.”

He said the city planned to begin “triage” on the encampments in the next several weeks, to determine how many people needed services and permanent housing. “We’re treating it like any other disaster area,” Mr. Barfield said.

Mr. Barfield took over his newly created position in January, after the county and city adopted a 10-year plan to address homelessness. A class-action lawsuit brought on behalf of homeless people against the city and the California Department of Transportation led to a $2.35 million settlement in 2008, making money available to about 350 residents who had had their belongings discarded in sweeps by the city.

The growing encampments led the city to place portable toilets and security guards near one area known as New Jack City, named after a dark and drug-filled 1991 movie. But that just attracted more homeless people.

“It was just kind of an invitation to move in,” said Mr. Stack, the outreach center manager.

On a recent afternoon, nobody seemed thrilled to be living in New Jack City, a filthy collection of rain- and wind-battered tents in a garbage-strewn lot. Several weary-looking residents sat on decaying sofas as a pair of pit bulls chained to a fence howled.

Northwest of New Jack City sits a somewhat less grim encampment. It is sometimes called Taco Flats or Little Tijuana because of the large number of Latino residents, many of whom were drawn to Fresno on the promise of agricultural jobs, which have dried up in the face of the poor economy and a three-year drought.

Guillermo Flores, 32, said he had looked for work in the fields and in fast food, but had found nothing. For the last eight months, he has collected cans, recycling them for $5 to $10 a day, and lived in a hand-built, three-room shack, a home that he takes pride in, with a door, clean sheets on his bed and a bowl full of fresh apples in his propane-powered kitchen area.

“I just built it because I need it,” said Mr. Flores, as he cooked a dinner of chili peppers, eggs and onions over a fire. “The only problem I have is the spiders.”

Dozens of homeless men and women here have found more organized shelter at the Village of Hope, a collection of 8-by-10-foot storage sheds built by the nonprofit group Poverello House and overseen by Mr. Stack. Planted in a former junkyard behind a chain-link fence, each unit contains two cots, sleeping bags and a solar-powered light.

Doug Brown, a freelance electrical engineer, said he had discovered the Village of Hope while unemployed a few years back and had returned after losing his job in October. Mr. Stoops, of the homeless coalition, predicted that the population at such new Hoovervilles could grow as those without places to live slowly burned through their options and joined the ranks of the chronically homeless, many of whom are indigent as a result of illiteracy, alcoholism, mental illness and drug abuse.

That mix is already evident in a walk around Taco Flats, where Sean Langer, 42, who lost a trucking job in December and could pass for a soccer dad, lives in his car in front of a sturdy shanty that is home to Barbara Smith, 41, a crack addict with a wild cackle for a laugh.

“This is a one-bedroom house,” said Ms. Smith, proudly taking a visitor through her home built with scrap wood and scavenged two-by-fours. “We got a roof, and it does not leak.”

During the day, the camp can seem peaceful. American flags fly over some shanties, and neighbors greet one another. Some feed pets, while others build fires and chat.

Daniel Kent, a clean-shaven 27-year-old from Oregon, has been living in Taco Flats for three months after running out of money on a planned hitchhiking trip to Florida. He did manage to earn $35 a day holding up a going-out-of-business sign for Mervyn’s until the department store actually went of out business.

Mr. Kent planned to attend a job fair soon, but said he did not completely mind living outdoors.

“We got veterans out here; we got people with heart, proud to be who they are,” Mr. Kent said. “Regardless of living situations, it doesn’t change the heart. There’s some good people out here, really good people.”

But the danger after dark is real. Ms. Smith, who lost an eye after being shot in the face years ago, said she had seen two people killed in New Jack City, prompting her to move to Taco Flats and try to quit drugs. Her companion, Willie Mac, 53, a self-described youth minister, said he was “waiting on her to get herself right with the Lord.”

Ms. Smith said her dream was simple: “To get out of here, get off the street, have our own home.”

SHANTY TOWNS SPREADING ACROSS AMERICA
Don't say it can't happen here. Across America Shanty Towns are popping up. Some are bottoms up affairs, others have been engineered from the top down. Cities and towns across this nation, many of them were industrial centers of the past, have turned into anarchy encampments where police dare to tread. Parts of Detroit are in the hands of the lawless, city services non-existent. In other areas of the country pop-up shanty towns gain critical mass overnight. They are served by soup kitchens and donations from local welfare agencies. Many of their inhabitants were once home owners devastated by the Obama Depression. Tin roof-cardboard made tent cities are a reminder of what is to come. Long time ago they were called Hoovervilles now they take on the moniker, Obamavilles. This is the Obama plan, the Cloward-Piven agenda is alive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmeHiFZUWtE#

In March 2008, Kwame Kilpatrick was charged with eight felonies, including perjury and obstruction of justice. In August, he violated his bail agreement and was thrown in jail. His actions were deplorable for anybody, but Kilpatrick was no Average Joe--he was the mayor of Detroit. Unfortunately for the Motor City, Kilpatrick, 38, is just one ripple in the area's sea of crime. Detroit is the worst offender on our list of America's most dangerous cities, thanks to a staggering rate of 1,220 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people. Factories that once provided tens of thousands of jobs now stand as hollow shells, windows broken, mute testimony to a lost industrial past," wrote Thomas J. Sugrue in his book The Origins of the Urban Crisis. "Whole sections of the city are eerily apocalyptic."

We once called them "trailer trash", but more and more Americans are queuing up. It is not of their own devise. Manufacturing, the life blood of the American worker can no longer be counted on to provide or sustain the millions of Americans who have in the past depended on it. Workers from less developed countries, hungry for a better life, will be happy to eat our lunch for 25% of America's going rate. Ethnic gangs control many sections of American cities, they provide protection, distribute drugs, are involved in illegal prostitution, gambling and other illegal activities. Soon, cities such as Los Angeles and Detroil, their budgets busted by the weight of the entitled will soon become devoid of any type of economic activity. You say this can't happen, white flight from gun infested cities (black flight too) has resulted in the insurrection of many American cities. As they become more prevalent to violence and anarchy the suburban towns will arm themselves against the threat of a violent confrontation soon to spread to the suburbs.

The cause of our demise has been none other than the FREE LUNCH. Millions upon millions of Americans, with the help of the Socialist politicians have leached off the private sector for the past 75 years. The resulting socialist state costs the private sector two trillion dollars per year. Why work when the government will pay you. It takes two to tango, the other partner was the greedy politician and his lobbyist friends. As companies sought more markets for their goods, the politicians, bribed by the lobbyists, looked the other way as our technical know-how was exported overseas. Countries such as China and India have become the new manufacturing centers of the world. As this tide turned into a vicious tsunami, America woke up to the nightmare, but too late. Now we face a more imminent danger, on of the debt ceiling.

This new metric has no answers, default on our debt is the only one. Why encumber future generations with the liabilities of the past. The young entrepreneur, the college graduate, those in the private sector will not take too lightly when told that they must pay 60%-80% of their salary to the government. The REVOLUTION is coming. Remember, we told you so.

You are not alone, others have prepared for the cataclysmic event. Below is an exerpt rom "the survival prepardness blog, click here.  http://survivalpreparednessblog.com/what-do-you-think-the-end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it-will-look-like

I think the larger cities will be ruled by Gangs and a mob mentality. Hell, look what happens when their favorite team either wins or loses a playoff game? They don’t need a good reason to start rioting and burning down their neighborhoods, just imagine what will happen when these thugs get hungry. I imagine you’ll have your “Green” areas where the Police and or private Security companies control, but the rest will be Gang ruled. It’s not the United Nations or even Uncle Sam I worry about, it’s Gangs or roving bands of ruthless people looking to take whatever they can get a hold of.
You’ll see people who will try and benefit from such a disaster any way they can. You’ll have those who try and profit from it, as well as the thugs who want to rule and control. Then you’ll have those who just want to survive any way they can.
I think you’ll see communities come together, at least the smaller ones, in an effort to secure their towns. They’ll probably throw together some “defense force” of one type or another. You may even see neighborhoods do this.
You’ll see shortages of the basic necessities; food, water and fuel. I’m sure that many things we take for granted today will be in short supply or unobtainable in such a situation. How much toilet paper or firewood do you have stored up?
I imagine they’ll be many refugees looking for some place to hole up. Hey, you’re place looks nice!
I have no doubt there will be private Security companies hired to “keep the peace”.
Just as with any war or uprising, you’ll have those that will give up their freedom’s for security. It’s these people you must be on the watch for. They’re the really dangerous ones.
I can see “Neutral zones” where people come and trade goods, supplies and services. What would you have to trade or use for currency?

It’s reminiscent of the Hoovervilles of the Great Depression and as our current depression worsens, and Americans lose the ability to pay their mortgages or buy food, we’re going to see more of this. Fittingly, this story comes to us from President Obama’s reported birth state of Hawaii:

image: Bruce Asato / basato@staradvertiser.com

The strip of land is bounded by Waipahu High School on one side and the calming waters of Pearl Harbor’s Middle Loch on the other, where the Navy’s mothball fleet sits idle. It’s the most visible portion of an enormous homeless encampment that stretches five miles over approximately 50 acres of city, Navy and state land that serpentines around Waipio Point Access Road, the Ted Makalena Golf Course and the city’s Waipio Soccer Complex and back down to Pearl City in the opposite direction…

…

Doran J. Porter, executive director of the Affordable Housing and Homeless Alliance, believes more and more homeless encampments like the one behind Waipahu High School are springing up on Oahu as Honolulu police and city officials continue to push Oahu’s homeless off of beaches and out of city parks.

“I don’t know why it would surprise anyone that they’ve found these places,” Porter said. “You get kicked out of one place, you have to find somewhere else to survive the night. … And now their desperation is starting to show.”

This isn’t the first tent city we’ve seen pop up in the United States. They’re becoming more common as the reality of the greatest depression takes hold:

California Tent City:

source

Las Vegas â€" Off Main Street:

source

In 2008, MSNBC reported that tent cities were popping up all over the country:

From Seattle to Athens, Ga., homeless advocacy groups and city agencies are reporting the most visible rise in homeless encampments in a generation.

Nearly 61 percent of local and state homeless coalitions say they’ve experienced a rise in homelessness since the foreclosure crisis began in 2007, according to a report by the National Coalition for the Homeless. The group says the problem has worsened since the report’s release in April, with foreclosures mounting, gas and food prices rising and the job market tightening.

“It’s clear that poverty and homelessness have increased,” said Michael Stoops, acting executive director of the coalition. “The economy is in chaos, we’re in an unofficial recession and Americans are worried, from the homeless to the middle class, about their future.”

A full two years later, we’re nowhere near being out of this mess. In fact, we can expect to see this trend grow.

It’s very easy to understand what’s happening here and why the problem will only get bigger. When you lose your job bad things happen. Sure, the government will provide you with unemployment assistance for 6 â€" 8 months, including food stamps and even state run health care for the kids, but the so-called support net will most certainly fall short of providing you with the comforts you came to enjoy during the boom times of the 80′s, 90′s and early 2000′s. Once the assistance stops â€" and eventually it does â€" if you haven’t found a job, you’re choices become very limited.

It’s hard to imagine that after billions of dollars have been spent to fight homelessness and hunger in America, we’re actually seeing an increase in homeless and hungry people. As government spent billions to “save” and “create” jobs, we’re losing more of our workforce every month.

While too-big-to-fail banks, bond holders, unions and sovereign governments receive bailouts, the too-small-to-save American working and middle classes are transformed into welfare recipients and the poverty stricken.

daghang salamat MIKE. sa dili pa ko molakaw nia koy ibilin bilin ninjo. i think everyone uses FACEBOOK. karong pila ka adlaw mag himo ug IPO ang facebook. IPO means initial public offering. sa ato pa mo debut na ang facebook. mamaligja na sila ug sugod sa ilang shares to the general public. sa pagka karon private company ang facebook.  naa may daghang kwartahan dinhi. but dili hilig ug stocks. karon niay chance nga maka sapi mo. kay posible kaajo nga tulin pa sa manatad mo saka dajon ang share price sa facebook. let me share with you the tip i got from microcapmillionaires. okey ra man tingali kong i share ni naho kay nag bayad man ko ani kada buwan. i spend $600 a year for my subscription. kini si ROSANA mao ni ahong eldest. tanan nahong mga anak ahong gi train. naa silay kaugalingong mga brokerage account with scottrade. custodial account para sa mga gagmay. pero si ROSANA kaugalingon na nija ijang account kay adult naman sija. as you know my little company is called IAN RONALIE CORPORATION an acronym of the names of my children. IAN, ROsana, RegiNA and JuLIE. here goes.

Hey Rosana.

I am sending this out to you today because I don't want
you to realize you missed out on the easiest money (my opinion)
the stock market will offer you for the next 10 years.

Maybe you are one of those people who are fairly conservative...maybe
you like to trade penny stocks every day....either way you realize that
trading is all about how big of a percentage gain you can make on your money
over time.

Right?

Right. Well I will get right to it then...

"No-brainer" trade for 2012-2022 = FB (facebook) IPO.

Now....what I am talking about is getting FB shares BEFORE they
hit the open market. How do you get them?

1) You need an http://www.etrade.com account (scotia itrade may work for Canadians, call them)

2) You need to fill out the online form (make sure you have images enabled in your email and you will see a screenshot below) and submit your bid for shares, I would say
bid near $35 or even a tad higher since the pricing range is $28 to $35...make sure you do not select the option saying you intend to sell your shares in the next year or so...they want to
give these shares to ppl who want to hold (once you get the shares you can do what you want with them)
The whole logic of getting IPO shares of FB is due to the likelihood that the stock will likely start trading around $60 per share...give or take a few bucks. That is almost a 100% gain out the gate!! Hello! (Similar to how the LNKD worked out last year, and LNKD is small potatoes compared to FB)

Granted if you only have a few hundred bucks to trade with this is probably not for you. But if you have at least a few thousand bucks this is THE trade to get in on. Maybe you have a few grand in your sock drawer...open an Etrade account with it!!

*Note: I am attempting to buy FB pre-IPO as well. I have never bought an IPO before. I have no idea as to whether or not you will actually get any shares. Please do not bombard me with technical questions about this...call Etrade with those questions instead. I am not being compensated in anyway by Etrade. They happen to be the only broker that has access to FB IPO shares.

Just thought I would let you know about this. The window will be closed forever in a few days. At least you can't say you didn't know about it now.

It's up to you to take action.

Matt

nag share man lang unta ko sa ahong knowledge about making money. mao bitaw nga naay sections about business , finance
all i wanted to do was to open your eyes to another way of making money. dautan ba diay na. with a heavy heart i now bid you GOODBYE and MAY GOD BLESS US ALL :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I am one of the original members of this website. I shared Mike's loneliness when he was in Thailand. I got lost because my friend banned me for my sexual escapades. That does not mean I worship money. Mao nay akong gika sok-an nimo. Whenever you tell me I worship money , that I am a Mammon manservant I go off my rocker. I do not worship money. I worship only my Lord Jesus Christ. I am a devotee of Divine Mercy. Every day at 3pm I say the chaplet of divine mercy. But sad to say, init gihapon ko ug ulo. Sa didto pa bitaw ko mag puyo sa New York in Brooklyn, samtang ga drive ko, sigihan ko ug potpot sa hudeyo sa akong likod. Jewish neighborhood ang ahong gi poy-an sauna sa New York. Hawod kaajo ning mga hudeyo, duna silay attitude. Naglagot na ko, I stopped my car in the middle of the road, minaog ko sa ahong kotse. Perte nilang hadloka.  Ang aho man gong hitsura karon perte nang ngil-ara. Dili na pareha nianang picture with Stephanie nga arang arang pa ko ug dagway. Lost command na pod ang ahong nawong ron. Tag-as kaajo ug bohok, tag-as ug bongot nga puti na. So Mr. Hubag, I kaw na lay sabot nganong init ko ug ulo. I apologize. Sakto man ang imong giingon ba nga everyone is free to express his ideas because this is a free wheeling forum. I have no quarrel with that. Truth to tell, aho lang pod kang gi sogsog kay matod pa ni islander, sogsogan man ka. So let's call it quits my friend. Mag inom na lang ta ug bahal ;D

Before I go, let me sing this song for you

Reminiscing
The Little River Band
(Graham Goble)

Friday night, it was late, I was walking you home
We got down to the gate and I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right
How to tell you girl
I wanna build my world around you
Tell you that it's true
I wanna make you understand I'm talkin' about a lifetime plan

That's the way it began, we were hand in hand
Glenn Miller's Band was better than before
We yelled and screamed for more
And the Porter tunes (Night and Day)
Made us dance across the room
It ended all too soon
And on the way back home I promised you'd never be alone

Hurry, don't be late, I can hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark
Walking through the park and reminiscing

(Instrumental break)

Friday night, it was late, I was walking you home
We got down to the gate and I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right
Now as the years roll on
Each time we hear our favorite song
The memories come along
Older times we're missing
Spending the hours reminiscing

Hurry, don't be late, I can hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark
Walking through the park and reminiscing

I hope you can forgive me. I got mad when you said I worship money.  I do not worship money. I worship our Lord Jesus Christ.
You don't have to hate money. It is only a tool meant to be used, for good or evil. The choice is up to us.

To Mike Ligalig, thank you for letting me back in.

To all the members of this fantastic website, thank you for the camaraderie, love and friendship you gave to an old lonely man
reminiscing on his yesterdays.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
