Inspiration & Hope / Re: Destined to achieve
August 21, 2008, 02:13:21 PM
Amen!

Every individual is capable of success and achievement. One must believe in himself/herself, have confidence in their ability, use their God-given wisdom and whit. Do not doubt, as doubt is not of God.

Remember 2 Timothy 1:7;
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but one of power, love, and self-discipline."

To God be all Glory and Praise.

it was a period in history where europeans are looking for new frontiers as a conquestadores and in the name of Christianity to brought to the world. blood compact is maybe a ploy to lure us into colonization in a gentleman's way. bear in mind, this europeans were coming from the other side of the globe enduring the heat and storms of the oceans they sail to find gold. and of course determined to do whatever they can by killing those who stand their way or by a gesture of frienship. for me bornian or not it is still a boholano who was more civilized to drink the blood from a white man for friendship. this gesture, for sure, mould the friendliness and hospitable culture of the present boholanos that i'm proud of.

MABUHAY KA DATU SIKATUNA........sikat na tuna pa!

The Spaniards' policy towards the colonization of the Philippines is less bloody as compared to Spain's treatment of the Mesoamerican civilizations of Azteca, Atlhuatl, and the Incans. It was customary in the early 16th century, especially during the epoch of 'La Conquista' in The Americas (North, Central, Southern).

After the brutal conquest of Azteca and Inca, The Spanish Crown made a proclamatory act to prevent further brutal acts against the Indios. Critical to this and championing of the protection of the Indios were the Catholic Episcopacy that warned the Spanish Crown in the protection of the Indios.

Spain's goal in the new world, economically speaking, was to safeguard the riches (land, workers, gold, spices, trade lanes, possible taxation). However, it was the Roman Catholic Church that provided backlashes and criticized Spain for its ill-treatment of the Native Indios; especially after the brutalization of the Indios in America caused by disease proliferation.

This is why we observe a massive drop in Indio populations in the the Americas during the mid 16th to late 16th century. It was in the late 16th century that the Catholic Church further exercised its religious power on Spain in ordering the protection of Indios (coverted christians or not) under the Spanish Crown. Their argument was that the Indios were capable of recieving grace and accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Redeemer. Spain, being the shield bearer of Catholicism in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries, acquiesced to Catholic demands in the protection of Indios and thus adopted a 'friendlier' policy towards the Indio. This is why the importation of African slaves came to hand in the New World because the employment of african slaves allowed the indio populations, which suffered from lack of resistance to European diseases, overwork, and war). Thus we see an eventual rise of Indio populations in the 17th century and unto the ending of Spanish control of its Colonies in the Americas, namely: Nuevo Espana, La Plata, y La Peru.

The Philippines, being discovered in 1521 and later in 1560+ was addressed by conquistadores that were told to maintain a 'protectionist' policy towards the Indios in the Philippines. This is the reason why the conquest of the Philippines was relatively peaceful, as compared to Spanish conquest and expansion in the Americas.

Privy to this conquest was the Roman Catholic Episcopacy, which sent hundreds upon hundreds of its Monks, Brothers and Priests to accompany Spanish ships to monitor the actions of the Conquistadores so that they would abide by the agreement of the Church and the Spanish Crown to protect the Indios.

The Philippines, in actuality, was a religious experiment for the Episcopacy and the Church. The goal was to Christianize and Evangelize the region to Christ and His Teachings. For the most part, it succeeded.

One thing that I admired about the Spaniards was their ambition for agricultural dependency.

It was always a policy in the Spanish Empire to procreate and establish Hispanic forms of agriculture in the new frontier; either it be in Nueva Espana, La Plata, La Peru and Las Filipinas (which was part of the Viceroyalty of Nueva Espana for almost 3 centuries).

Critical to the establishment and self sufficiency of the Spanish colonies was the proliferation of the Encomienda System. The Ecomienda System was a trusteeship labor system that was employed by the Spanish crown during the Spanish colonization of the Americas and the Philippines in order to consolidate their conquests. Conquistadores were granted trusteeship over the indigenous people they conquered, in an expansion of familiar medieval feudal institutions, notably the commendation ceremony, which had been established in New Castile during the Reconquista. The encomiendo system differed from the developed form of feudalism in that it did not entail any direct land tenure by the encomendero; Indian lands were to remain in their possession, a right that was formally protected by the Crown of Castile because at the beginning of the Conquest most of the rights of administration in the new lands went to the Castilian Queen.

Within the Encomienda system, were the Landed Elites that owned Haciendas (large lands). The creation of the hacienda led to the agricultural self-sufficiency and led to the direct growth of the population due to the increased food production per annum.

Originally, before the creation of the encomienda system in the Philippines, the Filipinos were noted by Spanish missionaries as being 'sedentiary' and 'isolated' farmers. And therefore were inhibited from growing in population as well as inhibited in communication ability due to the small populatory pockets prior to Hispanidad.

The Encomienda System not only led to the growth of the barrio system, but also the development of infrastructure that ultimatley allowed populations in the Philippines to skyrocket and allow the development of municipalidades, provincias and regionalidades etc.

One major goal that Spaniards wanted to manifest in the Philippines was the creation of urban systems. Cities. As the Spaniards, as many christian Europeans at the time, believed that man was a social animal that was capable of receiving grace. What better to allow the reception of Grace than to facilitate communication by creating a agricultural system that can support the growth of cities and urban areas. Which, in the process, would lead to the ability of the creation of social orders, religious life, and therefore communication.

This occurred throughout the ENTIRETY of the Spanish Empire.

Cheers,

#43806
Historically speaking, it was the very arrival of Hispanidad to the islands that led to the eventual creation of 'El Filipinoismo'. There are, indeed, a dichotomy of the positives and negatives as consequence to Hispanicization of the Philippines during the Colonial Epoch. However, nevertheless, it is their presence in this country that led to the creation of the Idea of a 'Filipinas'.

They provided the basis for the evolutionary character of the Filipino.

Mr. Matig-a, as one who has had superfluous research in Imperial Spanish History and Colonial Hispanidad, your article is interesting in that it shares your own personal flair to it. However, it can be destructive as that it secludes the other point of view. It is clearly very biased and by that right, has already prejudiced the historical aspects of the MASSIVE phenoma that took place in the Philippines during Pax Hispanica.

To understand the entire complex processes of History, one needs to examine both sides and show both points of view.

Mao lagi, Tita. Pas-pas ra jud kaayo ang time no? I was talking to one of my colleagues from college the other day and one thing that we talked about was reminiscent days of our freshman and sophomore years in college. Its so surreal how time just passes; I mean I can still remember frolicking with fellow undergrads in the fall of 2004. lol.

My one very good friend, Lisa, who is a 1st year Law student in New York told me how she felt so old in her first day of Law School Orientation. One minute we were still undergrads having our typical conversations in the campus center over a nice cup of chai latte or cappuccino. And now here we are in our different paths. She, in Law School, and I, in medical school.

One thing we agreed on was that the level of stress we both are experiencing are mutually equal. LOL!
Hahahaha. She, being inundated with legal briefs and cases and historical timelines. And I, already covering my face with books upon books. Ay dios ko.

One thing is a constant tho. Stress.

It never ceased to bother me in undergraduate college. And now, it seems to have become my best friend. :P

One thing I learned throughout this 'growing' process is the ability to take things the way they are. And most of all, finding the goods and positives of every single situation.

You're right to, Tita, that friends will contact. One finds out who his or her real friends are that way.

:)

I extend my warm salutations and my absolute regards to all who read this; and find themselves agreeing to my point.

...blast from the past...

To suppress the insurgency in Bohol and to retaliate and avenge their losses encountered in Kabantian pass, the Americans intensified their campaigns against the insurgents who were camping in the different parts of the province. They heard about the two insurgent encampments in Bohol. Valmoria's campsite was in the upper part of Lonoy somewhere in Boctol or Claveceta mountain range overlooking Sierra-Bullones. Lonoy is a hilly barrio of Jagna, more or less 10 kilometers from the poblacion. In going to the place, one has to always go upward, following narrow winding paths or chopped roads by the hills. Its terrain is a good ambush site along the route to the Boholano camps. On March 5, 1901 Miguel Valmoria received a communication from the general headquarters of Pedro Samson that the Americans had started moving towards his (Valmoria's) camp.

On the following day he ordered Captain Gregorio Caseñas to prepare everything because his camp (Caseñas')  will be first to be attacked. Believing that the American troops will pass through Lonoy, Jagna via a narrow path they dug trenches and foxholes at both sides, covered and camouflaged. In the trenches and foxholes there were more than four hundred patriots waiting for the zero hour. On the morning of March 8, 1901 two American platoons attacked the Boholanos from the rear while another two platoons one on each end of the pass served as blocking forces.

Betrayed by a fellow Boholano, a certain Francisco Salas guided the Americans to the position of the Boholanos along the path to the rear of the defenses. The Boholanos in the trenches caught in surprise, were not able to raise their spears, were either shot or bayoneted in the covered foxholes. Four hundred six were dead including Captain Caseñas. Only seven were able to escape. The Americans had olny three casualties.

This is very accurate. I read into this in another online article. How disgusting that a fellow Bol-anon would rat out his own people.

You are very right, Mr. Ferniz and Mr. Nada.

Excessive democracy is unhealthy. We even see this in Ancient Greece, the fountain of pure democracy. Greece, was too ideological, too philosophical in questions of abstract concepts and debated for the sake of debate rather than focusing on realistic and rational problems of the day.

The country collapsed in internal civil war and later was conquered by a more rigid 'Republic'. Rome.

Roman style of democracy was more Republican-Federalist in style. Less political debate and more action.

My favorite fruit has definitely got to be lemon.

After a nice hot summer day, mowing the lawn and trimming the grass. I like to grab a lemon, peel the skin off, take some salt and sprinkle each lemon piece with some salt. Enjoy each peace under the cool shade of the trees in our backyard. And sip some home-made lemonade.

Glorious. Simply Glorious.

Mr. Ayag,

The name 'Dioscoro' has special implication for me because it is the name of my good friend, Dr. Dioscoro Villanueva, a man who I shadowed some years ago. And sir, isn't it your own name? For me, I really like classic names.

I was unable to attend the EB, sir, due to the cost of securing my apartment, as well as securing my first year's payment for medical school. I wanted to attend and visit the Philippines, but I thought it wise not to overburden my parents already. Someday pohon we shall meet, sir. Thank you so much for understanding, Mr. Ayag.

working diay siya the same time sa studies? kuyawa kaayo! More power to your daughter, Tita. That is what I call a true student :)

For me, Tita, the M.D program is 4 years, but an additional 2 years will be added for the completion of the Ph.D dual. So in all around 6 years. More years of demanding study and review is ahead.

Good luck to all of us. Because we are all students in some form or another.

OT: Most of my colleagues in undergrad are either starting their first year in Medicine or their Ph.D doctoral studies; I have 2 friends who are pursing their doctoral degrees in Organic Chemistry; one who is going into Physics, four who are going into biochemistry/molecular. Two who are going into Law proper and one very good friend who is pursuing a career in theater. Reading your post, Tita, reminded me of our last conversations we had with one another back in May. And it just hit me that we won't be finished with our studies until we're all old. hahaha. As in nearing 30 years haha.

O I do hope that most of them will be able to keep in contact; and keep our friendships intact. One can only hope, specially in our ever-changing and spontaneous world that we live in.

Bem, 8 hour shifts are typical shifts.

The hospital where I did my summer internship in, Virtua West Jersey Health Systems, had nursing students completing their clinical rotations. I managed to talk to some of them and it is common for first year nurses to work 12-16 hour shifts over here. Depends where one is relegated at.

If one is working in Med Surg (medical surgical), you'll see alot of patients even up to 15-20 patients per nurse. If you're working in Telemetry Unit, its even common to care for 20+ pts. Depends on how many nurses are on duty that shift.
However if one is placed in more intensive units such as ICU, CCU, ER, OR, PCU, PACU etc, then you'll be caring for 4 or less patients. In particular, the floor where my mother works at is in ICU where there are no Nurse's aids allowed; the nurse-to-patient interaction is direct. So it's common to have 1 or 2 patients per nurse. Then again, this depends on how many nurses were on duty that particular shift/day/night.

I agree with you that the nursing field is a very demanding one. Any medical field, by right, will be demanding and taxing on the individual; mentally as well as physically. As we are not dealing with financial funds, not with reparing television sets, directing shows, writing papers, etc. In medicine/nursing, you are dealing with the life of an individual.

If you loose a life, you cannot just replace it or refund it. That makes this professional field a league of its own.

As what the floor director told the nursing students, "If you can't take the heat. Get out of the kitchen."

Thus says the LORD, your redeemer,
who formed you from the womb:
I am the LORD, who made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens;
when I spread out the earth, who was with me?
I am the LORD and there is no other,
there is no God besides me.

I AM A JEALOUS GOD

I am the LORD, there is no other;
I formed the light, and create the darkness,
I make well-being and create woe;
I, the LORD, do all these things.
Let justice descend, O heavens, like dew from above,
like gentle rain let the skies drop it down.
Let the earth open and salvation bud forth;
let justice also spring up!
I, the LORD, have created this.

I AM A JEALOUS GOD

It was I who made the earth and created mankind upon it;
It was my hands that stretched out the heavens;
I gave the order to all their host.
It was I who stirred up one for the triumph of justice;
all his ways I make level.
He shall rebuild my city and let my exiles go free
Without price or ransom, says the LORD of host.

I AM A JEALOUS GOD

For thus says the LORD,
The creator of the heavens, who is God,
The designer and maker of the earth who established it,
Not creating it to be a waste, but designing it to be lived in:
I am the LORD, and there is no other.
Turn to me and be safe, all you ends of the earth,
for I am God; there is no other!

I AM A JEALOUS GOD

I am God, there is no other;
I am God, there is none like me.
At the beginning I foretell the outcome;
in advance, things not yet done.
I say that my plan shall stand,
I accomplish my every purpose.

I AM A JEALOUS GOD

Thus says the LORD:
Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
nor the strong man glory in his strength,
nor the rich man glory in his riches;
But rather, let him who glories, glory in this,
that in his prudence he knows me,
Knows that I, the LORD, bring about kindness,
justice and uprightness on the earth;
For with such am I pleased, says the LORD.

Mr. Barbaro,

I really like this poem, very much so.

Haha!!  America has won the Second World War!! Do not make laugh)). It can Americans have won Napoleon?
Or they have won war with Swedes.?

Yes who would speak. The Soviet union ????? millions lives has carried Germany in down and ashes, has released the most part of Europe, and northern fleet of Americans has been broken by Japanese in down ashes. Japanese were ready to battle to the last. And you have dumped nuclear warheads on ???????? and Nagasaki without sense. Because she and so capitulated.
The Soviet union has made all for a victory over Germany while America simply stood aside. And only towards the end of war when there was a crisis, and fascists have started to recede, Americans were connected to business. Look insurgents Less. And think more. Our education system was always better than yours. In our country the most beautiful girls. The BEst of mathematicians and highly developed patriotism. That that the union has broken up a historical error.
You speak Russian are guilty in Chernobyl? In all Gorbachev who entirely was on sale to the West is guilty, has begun reorganisation and has entirely disorganised the Soviet union.
He/she is our first selling president Kravchuk has disarmed ours ??????? and has melted submarines and ?????????? nuclear power of our country.
All aggression that is in the world goes from States. I am correctly informed, my friend. I read both Russian editions, and western. In pure English language.
Because in knowledge force.
The American power is impudently screened. Not such it and powerful, your country. At you the president - the fool. And army of mercenaries which all the same, on whose side to be at war.
And concerning the second world do not compose fables. Because your people have made the minimum contribution to a victory over fascism. ?????????? the Union and itself would win this war. Simply America was afraid and is afraid of increase in influence of Russia in the world. Also recognise, it is the fact.
And the most stupid people in the world - Americans. Because the majority of you at all does not know, where is caucasus and where there is Georgia directly. The Majority of you is able nothing, except how to pull out languages on rotten sites like it. America - the country of hamburgers and Hollywood. All angrily, that is in the world is in America. Any ?????????? against them was not. And on September, 11th - it is planned by the Pentagon, differently how to explain that fact that in buildings there was a minimum of quantity of people.
And in general. You have gone to an ass. And your Ukrainian words in general are incorrectly written. I know three languages. Russian, the Ukrainian language and English. The god, I still to shoot also will give a bum to your brother!!

The deaths of people and the invasion of nations, the abuse of territorial sovereignty and the total dereliction of Human Rights and National Rights as dictated by the Hague convention and by the UN code of conduct is a serious matter.

They was killed two sousends russians peolpe at South Ossetia..
Mercy will not be. Russia will force them in the world. And they will be responsible for all.
Once again I wish to ask you. The United States if in a peace time have killed 2 thousand their citizens have as though arrived, having begun bombardment at night, on the eve of the Olympic Games. When the majority of inhabitants peacefully slept?
Yes. Your Ukrainian language - the nastiest that I read. On hearing probably is even worse.
What foreign at you teach at schools? Spanish??.
Adios, Amigos)

Absolute hoggwash. You talk of unrealistic and fictitious dreams. Latin American states harboring Russian patriotism and nuclear camaraderie? lol. The truth, my friend, is that Latin America (Central America and South America) are protected under American patronage as declared by the Monroe Doctrine. One can say that it is a form of America's 'Big Stick' Policy. :)

And it has been enacted for almost 2 centuries. There is nothing in Latin America that escapes American proctoring and intervention. It is American Policy to intervene in the region if any foreign power (European or otherwise) that will threaten the stability of Latin America--and thus to the detriment of American Interests in the region.

This is the reason why American warships and air force intervened in the Cuban-Missile Crisis in the 1960s to prevent Russian plans of making Cuba into an atomic power. It was Russian President Nikita Krushev that abated and acquiesced to American dictates and orders. :)

Latin America will remain part of the United States' Sphere of Control. Policy and Military Protocol dictates it.

LoL.

Of course America didn't go to war with Napoleon, we were still an infant republic during that time epoch. I, however, can assure you that it wasn't Russia that defeated Napoleon, either. Rather it was the might of the British Navy and the combined forces of Prussia, Sweden, Flanders, and The British Empire that crushed Napoleon in Waterloo in 1815.

;)
Russia, at this time, was still licking its wounds (figuratively speaking) after Napoleon's Grande Armie of 500,000+ men ravaged and totally decimated Russian agriculture, cities and nearly wiped out the entire Czaric Army.

The only thing that stopped Napoleon's forces in its offensive into Russia was not Russia, but God himself. It was the winter that stopped their offensive. They literally froze in the Russian Winter. Same scenario with Germany in its Operation Barbarosa in 1940-1941. :)

You should know your history. You live there. lol

It was last cries of them.. Georgia is fallen to ass and most of Georgias army were died!

Tries to cause pity of world community. But really it is not clear, that if Russia wished to attack Georgia at once would strike across Tbilisi would destroy by bombing all from near to distant borders. And really to the world countries not clearly, that Georgia has been directed by a hand of America. To check up fighting capacity of the Russian army.
Our nationalist-silly person Yushchenko, the westernized ugly creature. Really not to understand, that it is necessary to live in the world. We are Slavs. We - one people. And no borders are capable to win our Spirit.
Russia during the first hours after an attack addressed to the world communities, to a management of the United Nations which has ignored this statement, to the Pentagon. And only after the decision alone to settle the conflict was accepted and to enter tanks into a conflict zone on the first strips of newspapers of the world there was an inscription "Russia Attacked Georgia". These are such known systems as CNN, BBC. And so on.
The other countries simply keep silent. Others condemn. Poland and France already a saliva, splash. Will choke, day will come.
Young Russia needs to draw only a conclusion that it is necessary to strengthen and increase power of the army, pilotless planes. The Space weapon. And to search for allies. To Take the same Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Cuba. SO yet all is lost. Here take and will place the warheads somewhere there. With a view of ostensibly for "Struggle against terrorism". As do States. And we will show Kuzkinu mother!! Such affairs
For reception of fuller information read not only editions and magazines that in states do, but also Russian read now and then. So the situation will be more objective. I so do for a long time. To find true easier. And to analyse all.
Kapitalism is sucks. West of Ukraine is good boys, but every family has its black sheep, and politickal is Dirty business.. And Bloodness..

Zdrastewidya Human Ukrainiya,

Ah how can you easily just point a negative finger to Yushchenko, one cannot deny the fact that he was the one that led the Orange Revolution that placed Ukraine on the Western Agenda and closer into the European fold. :)

Da, you are right that there are variances and differences in points of view, mass media will always be that way, comrade, either it be Western Media, Russian, Chinese, etc. You get the point. That is why it is essential that we research topics with varying sources. Unfortunately for you tho, most of foreign media has pointed the fault on Russia for its gross ineptitude on national integrity, territorial integrity and human rights on basis of Georgian statehood. It is rather sardonic to even discuss this as if Russia was even threatened by the state of Georgia.

My friend, you and I well know that the Russian Federation is in no way even threatened by the state of Georgia. Russia is massive, and one that is composed of multiple federated republics within the Union. Stretching from the West to the Eastern Siberian and Upper Mongolic regions. We all know this. Russia's military dwarfs the militaries of her neighbors and for Russia to even amass such a massive ground force, air force and naval units close to Georgia without the pretense of an offensive operation or even capitulation-based action is moronic. The point is, my friend, that Russia went inside Georgia and supported the separatist fighters, which by that act, is an act of terrorism. How can your country work covertly with insurgent fighters and maintain a calm face? Vulgarity!

Russia is guilty of the deaths of thousands of Georgian military personnel as well as tens upon tens of thousands of civilians. Clear cut murder.

For you to sit and tell me, and the rest of us otherwise is not only a direct lie. Russia is at fault and will, ultimately, face sanctions by the United Nations as well as decreased economic activity with the EU. Most of all, what will suffer is the relationship between the United States and Russia.

The blessing States have refused to help people, having limited to diplomacy.
Yes. In answer Lorenzo I will tell, that if the nuclear conflict nevertheless will occur, on our planet simply remains nobody. There will be a global cataclysm and all of us will die) So let's live amicably. Besides at Russia which that too is in a pocket, there is the climatic weapon, capable to cause seismic pushes and other cataclysms in any point of a planet. The another matter what to operate this hogwash they plainly have not learnt yet, and at America such pieces too are)) And nuclear war. It not that absolutely that it would be desirable. It will not pass completely. + Russia more than has enough nuclear rockets, + hydrogen bombs. But we will not be about the weapon. It is all in empty.
Let's continue drink further beer yes to communicate. After all there are such class inventions of mankind as Countre Strike 1.6, WOW, La2, others.

Hippie of all countries, Unite. Music will rescue the world)))

My ill-informed comrade,

There is no comparison and there is no threat to American military hegemony. The United States Navy has 18 super air craft carriers that carry an arsenal of thermonuclear warheads in its hangar bay. The Russian Baltic Fleet and North Sea Fleet would be liquidated within weeks. What is left of your country's navy is rotting and rusting in its port docks.

To think that Russia would even dare pose a threat to our military? The United States has never lost a war, and we were the ones that overwhelmingly incinerated Imperial Japan in World War II, as well as it was America's naval power and air power that pulverized Nazi Germany into total submission. It was America that occupied and conquered Fascist Italy.

During Operation Barbarosa, when Russia was in the brink of fall, who was the one that supplied Russia with war materiel and supplies? The United States of America. :)

It was America's opening of a 2nd front with Germany that saved Russia from total destruction. At the expense of thousands of thousands of American lives.

Russia is outclassed. And is in no way even close to the military might of the United States.

We are the ONLY Hyper Power in the world. And America has the ability to incinerate and totally glass every single inch of Russian soil. Have you ever seen the effects of thermonuclear fall out?

Cheers my good friend.

HumanfromUkraine,

Perhaps your understanding in your own regional and domestic politics is misguided. My friend, I was in your country and studied in Kiev Mohyla Academy of Law in Kiev.

Perhaps you heard of that law school? It's a quite prestigious school in your country isn't it? I was there as part of a Inter-change studies program. I took summer courses with fellow Ukrainian law students and one thing is clear that there is a disunity within Ukraine. The western region of the country, namely Lviv region wishes to be part of the Western European Fold while the eastern region wishes to remain close to Russia. Your views do not represent the entirety of Ukrainian youth and acadamians.

I have befriended many Ukrainian Law students in Kiev Mohyla Academy and it is observable that there is a huge Anti-Russian sentiment particularly within the new generation. Eastern and Western Ukrainians.

Your country is a beautiful one. One that has been ravaged by Russian idiocy and unaccountability. Have you already forgotten Chernobyl?

My friend, I went with a delegation to visit Chernobyl in 2006 part of our inter-change course and saw the liquidation of the entire Kievan oblast region. Amazes me that the Russians tried to hide and cover up the Chernobyl nuclear melt down until the west (namely Finland and Sweden) recognized a high copper, zinc, and radiation trace in the atmosphere coming from Soviet-occupied Ukraine in 1986.

It wasn't until the West found out and pressured the USSR to show accountability and reveal the entire scenario that the Russians finally complied. :)

This is the very same Russia we are dealing with. It is Russia that has instigated this war. Georgia had all rights to secure its territory in South Ossetia and even in Azh region.

It is Russia that is responsible of pro-imperialistic ambitions.

I assure you, my friend, that my country, The United States of America, will not just stand idly by and let its ally be harassed. If you haven't already noticed, the EU member states have already sent envoys to Georgia and have called for a cease fire and ordered a total Russian evacuation of Georgian territory in order for a cease fire to even take place.

The West has heard the cries of Georgia.

:)

Calls for US Intervention

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biZlqZVrB58&NR=1

Russia claims to be defending itself. Yet it has poured out over 1,200 armoured tanks and thousands of support vehicles into Georgia proper.

This is not an act of defense; it is an act of war. Georgia has lost 2 of its provinces already; and has lost its major norther city of Gori to Russia.

Russia's main geopolitical goal is to stop Georgia from joining the NATO fold.

Georgia, as well as with Ukraine are the next two countries up for the list to being part of the NATO alliance.

US warns Russia

President Bush condemned the escalated violence between Russia and U.S.-backed Georgia on Sunday, while Vice President Dick Cheney said aggression against Georgia "must not go unanswered."

"My administration has been engaged with both sides of this trying to get a ceasefire," Bush told NBC's Bob Costas in an interview in Beijing, China, where the president has attended Olympic events.

Bush was filmed speaking to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during Friday's opening ceremonies and said Sunday that he "was firm with Vladimir Putin" and that "this violence is unacceptable."

Violence has continued to rage between Russia and the western ally since Thursday, when Georgia launched an operation to crack down on separatists in South Ossetia territory. Russia said it wanted to protect its peacekeepers already in South Ossetia following ceasefires in years past. But Georgia called it a full-on invasion.

And while Russia has accused Georgia of a genocidal plot to cleanse the region of ethnic Ossetians loyal to Russia, Georgia accuses Russia of executing a long-planned war with the aim of taking control of the region -- including a key pipeline that carries Asian oil to Black Sea ports.

"I expressed my grave concern about the disproportionate response of Russia," Bush said of his talk with Putin. "We strongly condemn bombing outside of South Ossetia."

Putin says he's concerned about the flood of refugees arriving in Russia from South Ossetia. Russian officials said more than 30,000 refugees have left South Ossetia and crossed into Russia over the past two days, Interfax reported.

"The actions of the Georgian authorities in South Ossetia are a crime, of course, primarily a crime against their own people," Putin said, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

Meanwhile, Cheney talked to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Sunday, telling him that Russia's aggression against Georgia "must not go unanswered."

Cheney's spokeswoman Lea Ann McBride said the vice president spoke to Saakashvili to express "the United States' solidarity with the Georgian people and their democratically elected government in the face of this threat to Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Georgia withdrew its forces Sunday and offered a ceasefire, which Russia refused.

"The vice president told President Saakashvili that Russian aggression must not go unanswered, and that its continuation would have serious consequences for its relations with the United States, as well as the broader international community," McBride said.

Saakashvili has called on the United States and the world community to stop the "intervention and invasion of my sovereign country."

Recent Update:

Russia opens 2nd front in Georgia, seizing towns

Russian armored vehicles rolled deep into western Georgia on Monday, quickly seizing several towns and a military base and slicing open a damaging second front in Russia's battle with Georgia. Other Russian forces captured the key central city of Gori.

Fighting also raged Monday around Tskhinvali, the capital of the separatist province of South Ossetia. Swarms of Russian planes launched new raids across Georgia, sending screaming civilians running for cover.

The invasions of Gori and the towns of Senaki, Zugdidi and Kurga came despite a top Russian general's claim earlier Monday that Russia had no plans to enter Georgian territory. By taking Gori, which sits on Georgia's only east-west highway, Russia has the potential to effectively cut the country in half.

Security Council head Alexander Lomaia said Monday that it was not immediately clear if Russian forces would try to advance on Tbilisi.

The two-front battlefield was a major escalation in the conflict that blew up late Thursday after a Georgian offensive to regain control of South Ossetia. Even as Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili signed a cease-fire pledge with EU mediators on Monday, Russia appeared determined to subdue the small U.S. ally that has been pressing for NATO membership.

On Monday afternoon, Russian troops invaded Georgia from the western separatist province of Abkhazia while most Georgian forces were in the central region around South Ossetia.

Russian armored personnel carriers moved into Senaki, a town 20 miles inland from Georgia's Black Sea port of Poti, Lomaia said.

Russian forces also moved into the Georgian town of Zugdidi and seized police stations, while their Abkhazian separatist allies took control of the nearby village of Kurga, Georgia's Interior Ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili said.

Georgia borders the Black Sea between Turkey and Russia and was ruled by Moscow for most of the two centuries preceding the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union. Both South Ossetia and Abkhazia have run their own affairs without international recognition since fighting to split from Georgia in the early 1990s â€" and both have close ties with Moscow.

Georgia began an offensive to regain control over South Ossetia late Thursday with heavy shelling and air strikes that ravaged its provincial capital of Tskhinvali. The Russia response was swift and overpowering â€" thousands of troops that shelled the Georgians until they fled Tskhinvali on Sunday, and four days of bombing raids across Georgia.

An AP reporter saw a small group of Georgian fighters open fire on a column of Russian and Ossetian military vehicles outside Tskhinvali, triggering a 30-minute battle. The Russians later said all the Georgians were killed.

Another AP reporter in the village of Tkviavi, 7 1/2 miles south of Tskhinvali inside Georgia, where a Russian Sukhoi bomber hit a house. The walls of neighboring buildings fell as screaming residents ran for cover. Eighteen people were wounded, six of them seriously.

Georgian artillery fire was heard coming from fields about 200 yards away from the village, perhaps the bomber's target.

Hundreds of Georgian troops headed north along the road toward Tskhinvali, pocked with tank regiments creeping up the highway into South Ossetia. Hundreds of soldiers traveled in trucks in the opposite direction, towing light artillery weapons.

In the city of Gori, where artillery fire could be heard, Georgian soldiers warned local residents that Russian tanks were approaching and advised them to leave. Hundreds of terrified residents fled toward Tbilisi, the Georgian capital, using any means of transport they could find. Many stood along the roadside trying to flag down passing cars.

President Bush and other Western leaders have sharply criticized Russia's military response as disproportionate and say Russia appears to want the Georgian government overthrown. They have also complained that Russian warplanes â€" buzzing over Georgia since Friday â€" have bombed Georgian oil sites and factories far from the conflict zone.

The world's seven largest economic powers urged Russia to accept an immediate cease-fire Monday and agree to international mediation. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her colleagues from the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations spoke by telephone and pledged their support for a negotiated solution to the conflict.

"I've expressed my grave concern about the disproportionate response of Russia and that we strongly condemn the bombing outside of South Ossetia," Bush told NBC Sports.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin criticized the United States for viewing Georgia as the victim, instead of the aggressor, and for airlifting Georgian troops back home from Iraq on Sunday.

"Of course, Saddam Hussein ought to have been hanged for destroying several Shiite villages," Putin said in Moscow. "And the incumbent Georgian leaders who razed 10 Ossetian villages at once, who ran elderly people and children with tanks, who burned civilian alive in their sheds â€" these leaders must be taken under protection."

The U.S. military was flying Georgian troops back from Iraq on C-17 aircraft and had informed the Russians about the flights before they began in order to avoid mishaps, said one military official said Monday on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the subject on the record.

Defense Department spokesman Bryan Whitman said Monday morning that U.S. officials expect to have all Georgian troops out of Iraq by the end of the day.

The Georgian president, Saakashvili, signed a cease-fire pledge Monday proposed by French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and his Finnish counterpart, Alexander Stubb. The EU envoys were heading to Moscow to try to persuade Russia to accept the cease-fire.

Saakashvili, however, voiced concern that Russia's true goal was to undermine his pro-Western government, which has sharply angered Moscow by wanting to join NATO. "It's all about the independence and democracy of Georgia," he said during a conference call.

Saakashvili said Russia has sent 20,000 troops and 500 tanks into Georgia.

The Georgian president said Russian warplanes were bombing roads and bridges, destroying radar systems and targeting Tbilisi's civilian airport. One Russian bombing raid struck the Tbilisi airport area just a half-hour before the EU envoys arrived, he said.

Another hit near key Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, which carries Caspian crude to the West. No supply interruptions have been reported.

Abkhazia's separatists called out the army and reservists on Sunday and declared it would push Georgian forces out of the northern part of the Kodori Gorge, the only area of Abkhazia still under Georgian control.

Before invading on Monday, Russia's deputy chief of General Staff Col.-Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn said Georgia must disarm its police in Zugdidi, a town just outside Abkhazia, but insisted "We are not planning any offensive." At least 9,000 Russian troops and 350 armored vehicles were in Abkhazia.

Bem,

Aren't there even any hospitals and clinics to take in the Filipino nurses who unable to go abroad still?

For me, it's all about waiting. When God wills it to be one's time, then it will be so. I have one cousin who graduated Nursing from UP a couple of years ago. She waited for about a year and a half and was finally given a position in the UK. I have another cousin who graduated and is right now waiting for her paper work to allow her to migrate here to NJ to work in a hospital up north jersey. She's been waiting for 2 years pero it is finally manifesting.

They key ani is to wait and have faith. Ing ani man jud ang mga immigration process. It doesn't take days or weeks. It takes several months and years even.

Key to this is being delikado and patient. Just like what you have to be when you are working in the hospital system here in the U.S.A.

To all aspiring nurses and nursing students, have faith! It will come in time.

God Bless!

UPDATE

Russians push past separatist area to assault central Georgia.

TBILISI, Georgia â€" Russia expanded its attacks on Georgia on Sunday, moving tanks and troops through the separatist enclave of South Ossetia and advancing toward the city of Gori in central Georgia, in its first direct assault on a Georgian city with ground forces during three days of heavy fighting, Georgian officials said.

The maneuver â€" along with bombing of the Georgian capital, Tbilisi â€" seemed to suggest that Russia's aims in the conflict had gone beyond securing the pro-Russian enclaves of South Ossetia and Abkhazia to weakening the armed forces of Georgia, a former Soviet republic and an ally of the United States whose Western leanings have long irritated the Kremlin.

Russia's moves, which came after Georgia offered a cease-fire and said it had pulled its troops out of South Ossetia, caused widespread international alarm and anger and set the stage for an intense diplomatic confrontation with the United States.

Two senior Western officials said that it was unclear whether Russia intended a full invasion of Georgia, but that its aims could go as far as destroying its armed forces or overthrowing Georgia's pro-Western president, Mikheil Saakashvili.

"They seem to have gone beyond the logical stopping point," one senior Western diplomat said, speaking anonymously under normal diplomatic protocol.

The escalation of fighting raised tensions between Russia and its former cold war foes to their highest level in decades. President George W. Bush has promoted Georgia as a bastion of democracy, helped strengthen its military and urged that NATO admit the country to membership. Georgia serves as a major conduit for oil flowing from Russia and Central Asia to the West.

But Russia, emboldened by windfall profits from oil exports, is showing a resolve to reassert its dominance in a region it has always considered its "near abroad."

The military action, which has involved air, naval and missile attacks, is the largest engagement by Russian forces outside its borders since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Russia also escalated its assault Sunday on despite strong diplomatic warnings from Bush and European leaders, underscoring the limits of Western influence over Russia at a time when the rest of Europe depends heavily on Russia for natural gas and the United States needs Moscow's cooperation if it hopes to curtail what it sees as a nuclear weapons threat from Iran.

President George W. Bush, in Beijing for the Olympics, strongly criticized the Russian attacks, especially outside South Ossetia, and urged an immediate ceasefire.

In an interview on NBC on Monday morning, he said he had been "very firm" with both Russia's prime minister, Vladimir Putin, and its president, Dmitri Medvedev.

Earlier, Vice President Dick Cheney intensified the administration's warnings to Russia. In a telephone conversation with the Georgian president, he said "that Russian aggression must not go unanswered, and that its continuation would have serious consequences for its relations with the United States, as well as the broader international community," a spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, said in a statement released by the White House.

Russian officials say Georgia provoked the assault by attacking South Ossetia last week, causing heavy civilian casualties. But Western diplomats and military officials said they worried that Russia's decision to extend the fighting and open a second front in Abkhazia indicated that it had sought to use a relatively low-level conflict in a conflict-prone part of the Caucasus region to extend its influence over a much broader area.

There was heavy fighting on Sunday on two fronts. Russian artillery shells slammed the city of Gori, a major military installation and transportation hub in Georgia. In the separatist region of Abkhazia, Russian paratroopers and their Abkhaz allies battled Georgian special forces and tried to cross the boundary into undisputed Georgian territory, Georgian officials said.

Russia dropped a bomb on Tbilisi's international airport shortly before Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner of France, who was sent by the European Union to try to mediate, was due to land, Georgian officials said. It twice bombed an aviation factory on the outskirts of the capital. Russia's Black Sea Fleet patrolled the coast of Abkhazia, and its Defense Ministry said Russian warships had sunk a Georgian gunboat that fired on them.

The Kremlin declined to say whether its troops had entered Georgia proper but said all its actions were intended to strike at Georgian military forces that had fired on its peacekeeping troops in South Ossetia.

A senior Russian military official, Anatoly Nogovitsyn, said early Sunday that Russia did not intend to "break into" Georgian territory.

'te, Georgia has been a strategic area for the United States in its containment policy during the 1990s and even to the present. It was only last month, 'te, that the United States Armed Forces and Georgian Armed Forces had a military exercise (US marines, army, air force) as part of the War against Terrorism. The reason for this is that many Chechen rebels are hiding in southern Russia and have been making attacks into Georgia and threatens American interests in the region.

Georgia is also home to the region's high oil and natural gas fields; which, by right of being a natural energy resource, is imperative to the security of international energy flow. America is in the region to prevent further Russian over dominance in the region to threaten international supplies; to the benefit of Russia at the cost of the West and the entire world.

Needless to say that the Caucasus is a strategic roadway in that it unites East with West. American military policy has shifted greatly during the 21st century; in an effort to shift American military presence from its concentration in Western Europe to Eastern Europe and Eurasian region. It is strategic for American's 21st centurian military policies as well as to aid in the War against Terrorism.

Georgia, is an independent nation. And one that has looked to the west after the fall of the USSR (it was a conquered territory of the USSR). And Georgia has looked to the United States, solely for support (economic, military). The United States has agreed and is a strategic ally of Georgia. By right of military alliance, America must defend its ally.

Russian invasion is a last ditch effort to try to undermine the growing American-Georgian friendship and alliance. Russia does not want to loose Georgia, which it has bullied for decades, to America.

This issue goes deep, 'te. One that is, I'm sure, complex for the entire American Armed Forces. This issue must be dealt accordingly and properly. So that Georgia's territorial sovereignty is secured and American Interests are safeguarded from all external threats.

Russia unite with Germany and China?

China is completely linked to American economic growth.

The fact is, that Russia Invaded Georgia. :)

In response to HumanfromUkraine,

The United States would glass every single inch of Russia if it even dared to send one missile to the United States. Russia is in no condition to even challenge the United States. Our military is unparalleled. :)

The entire NATO bloc would support the United States if Russia were to even further expand its war plans. It might not have dawn to your conclusion, but the United States has thousands of nuclear warheads that are ready and active. You talk of missiles that cannot be tracked by US military. Sir, the United States monitors every single missile (ICBM) launched from any where in the world. If an ICBM was tracked coming towards American soil from any where around the world; then it would be answered by a complete response of America's missile defense.

America's policy regarding such an issue is M.A.D. Mutually Assured Destruction. Nuke us, and we will liquidate any nation even affiliated with the aggressor. Total wipe out. This cold war era concept remains to this day.

Let us hope that the situation in the ground stabilizes. For the best interest of the region.
