Sa among panahon kaniadto sa dili pa kami mosaka sa balay aron manaygon,
Mokanta pa mi diha sa silong.

Maglipay kita
Kay Pasko karon.
Ang atong Ginoo
Nagpakatawo.
Ug kon mahimo,
Padayona kami
Kay among awiton
Kining among daygon ::)

Pagkahuman ug kanta, tawagon mi sa tagbalay ug mosaka me dayon.

Mokanta me ug usab. Ang among kanta nag-asoy sa kaagi ni Jesus
diin natawo siya sa Belen.

O berhin santa Maria
Si Jose ang bana niya
Sa paglakat sa kanunay ta
Si lawas nagamaluya na

Ginoong haring tagbalay
Sarang ba kami makapahulay
Si Maria gihago'g budlay
Kay wala ninyo iangay.

Malooy ninyong hatagan
Ug bisan sa sook lamang
Kang Maria nga pagaangkan
Kay matawo na ang  Balaan.

Ug dihay ilang hingtan-awan
Kamalig kadtong karaan
Gipuy-an sa mga hayopan.
Ug si Jesus didto nagpakatawo.

Mingkunsad ang mga angeles.
Giduyugan sa mga pastores.
Dalaygon duol na matapos
Gihapon kay amen Jesus ::)

Kining maong karaan mga daygon, talagsa na nato
karon madungog tungod sa kausaban sa panahon.

Cruel GSIS deductions from retirement benefits

Inquirer
First Posted 00:54am (Mla time) 04/02/2007

Filed Under: Government, Retirement, Wages & Pensions

THIS IS RELATED TO THE LETTER OF ANTOnio N. Domingo of Laoag City. (Inquirer, 2/14/07) I am the president of the 10,000-strong Camarines Sur Teachers and Employees Association (Castea) Inc. As such, I have received similar complaints from members of our organization - teachers and retirees - but it is only now that I understood their outrage.

I received last January the proceeds of my matured policy. The voucher showed that I was charged the amount of P42,081.92 as premium in arrears, detailed as follows:
Personal share premium arrears: P4,067.37
Personal share interest: P6,024.73
Government share premium arrears: P12,264.26
Government share interest: P19,725.56
Total: P42,081.92

Almost all government employees who retired since Winston Garcia took over management of the Government Service Insurance System, complained about such deductions -from P60,000 to P80,000 - from their retirement benefits. Also noted were deductions for calamity loans of teacher-victims of Typhoons Milenyo and Reming.

Obviously, it is the Department of Education that failed to remit the right amount of personal and government shares to the GSIS. And now because of this negligence or incompetence, the interest has become bigger than the principal. By deducting from the teachers' retirement benefits the personal and government shares plus interest, the GSIS has been so cruel, sadistic and insensitive. Some teachers could only cry and others were at a point that "kulang na lang ang magwala sa GSIS office" (short of running amuck at the GSIS office) when they received their check for P20 or none at all, because they were "deficit pa nga," so they were told.

To emphasize, it is patently unfair to charge the unpaid personal and government shares to the retirees. These shares are supposed to be remitted by the government. The retirees, even during their active employment, had no control over the remittance of the funds. It was solely government's responsibility.

We deserve to be refunded the big amount. We are not responsible for the failure of the government to pay its obligations.

How do we get the amount back? Whom shall we call upon to come to the rescue of our poor teachers and retirees? The education secretary? The budget secretary? Our legislators? The President of the Republic? Please help us!

DELFINA B. OLAâ€"O,
president,
Camarines Sur Teachers
and Employees Association (Castea) Inc.,

This is the how the AMC is derived.

Under the new GSIS retirement law, the average of my actual salary upon retirement and my salary the last three years was taken. The result, called my average monthly compensation or AMC, represented my monthly pension, which is actually almost half of my actual salary upon retirement.

Because of the new GSIS retirement law, a lot was taken from my monthly pension. One can only guess where the excess after the AMC was taken went. Probably to sustain the fat salaries and whopping retirement benefits of GSIS officials and employees who, upon retirement, become instant millionaires.

General Topic / Re: Who is Francisco Dagohoy?
December 22, 2008, 08:20:20 AM
Why did Francisco Dagohoy revolt against the Spaniards?

Forced labor was one of the causes of the revolt. But what triggered the decision to rise up in arms against the Spanish authorities in Bohol was the refusal of a Jesuit priest to give a Christian burial to Dagohoy's brother.

Initially, Dagohoy was infuriated by the refusal of Father Gaspar Morales to give a Christian burial to his brother who died in service while chasing a fugitive who went against Christianity. Because of the said injustice, Dagohoy called upon his fellow Boholanos to raise arms against the oppressors. The rebellion outlasted several Spanish Governors General and several missions.[3]

In 1744, Bohol was ready for another serious insurrection against Spain. In that year, Father Gaspar Morales, the Jesuit curate of Inabanga, ordered Sagarino, a constable, to capture a man who had abandoned his Christian religion. The brave constable pursued the fugitive, but the latter resisted and killed him. His corpse was brought to town. Father Morales refused to give the constable Christian burial because he had died in a duel and this was banned by the Church.

The History of the Kiss

Historians really don't know much about the early history of kissing. Four Vedic Sanskrit texts, written in India around 1500 B.C., appear to describe people kissing. This doesn't mean that nobody kissed before then, and it doesn't mean that Indians were the first to kiss. Artists and writers may have just considered kissing too private to depict in art or literature.
After its first mention in writing, kissing didn't appear much in art or literature for a few hundred years. The Indian epic poem "Mahabharata" describes kissing on the lips as a sign of affection. The "Mahabharata" was passed down orally for several hundred years before being written down and standardized around 350 A.D. The Indian religious text "Vatsyayana Kamasutram," or the "Kama Sutra," also describes a variety of kisses. It was written in the 6th century A.D. Anthropologists who believe that kissing is a learned behavior theorize that the Greeks learned about it when Alexander the Great invaded India in 326 B.C.

There aren't many records of kissing in the Western world until the days of the Roman Empire. Romans used kisses to greet friends and family members. Citizens kissed their rulers' hands. And, naturally, people kissed their romantic partners. The Romans even came up with three different categories for kissing:

Osculum was a kiss on the cheek
Basium was a kiss on the lips
Savolium was a deep kiss

Inspiration & Hope / Re: Why God allows suffering?
December 18, 2008, 11:01:40 AM
Some Christians Suffer Because of the Chastisement of God

As a Christian, it is my duty to live a Christ-honoring and obedient life before God. If I become disobedient, the Bible says that my Heavenly Father will rebuke and chasten me (To "chasten" is to punish or correct for moral improvement.) Revelation 3:19 says, "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." Notice these important words from Hebrews 12:6-8: "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." Just as any responsible father disciplines his children when they become disobedient, God disciplines His children. Paul says in I Corinthians 11:31-32 that we can often avoid God's chastisement by JUDGING OURSELVES instead of ignoring our sins, thus forcing God to judge us. Addressing Christians, John tells us that, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I Jn. 1:9) It is my Christian responsibility to do my very best to live a sinless life, but when I do sin I must repent and CONFESS my sins to God. If I choose not to do so, then I am being a disobedient child, and my Heavenly Father will rebuke and chasten me. Sad as it may be, many Christians are going through tragedy today because they refuse to confess their sins to the Lord and repent.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT SUFFERING:

Romans 8:18: "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us!"

Romans 8:17: "We must also share in his suffering, if we are to share in his glory."

John 16:33: "In this world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world." (Or as another translations puts it: "Take courage, I've deprived it of its power to harm and conquer you.")

James 5:13: "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray."

1 Peter 4:12: "Do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you. But to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing." And verse 19 says: "Let those who suffer ... entrust their souls to a faithful Creator.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS
The word “carolling” dates back to ancient Greece and word choraulien, meaning to ‘dance to a flute.’ During the Middle Ages, carols were English and French dances accompanied by singing. The Anglo-Saxon tradition was to assemble small choirs on the village lawn to sing carols and Christmas songs for the pleasure of the passers-by. A number of our popular carols today come from England and France. The most popular carol is “White Christmas” while the two most popular Christian carols of the season are the Latin hymn “In Dulci Jubilo” (Good Christian Friends, Rejoice) and the German carol, “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night).

DA, NAPC promote widespread growing of lowly malunggay

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) are taking the lead in promoting the widespread cultivation of the lowly malunggay, saying the tree’s leaves, seeds, and fruits have significant amounts of Vitamin A and C, potassium, calcium, protein, and other micronutrients demanded by the cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies worldwide.

Dr. Alicia Ilaga, head of the DA’s biotechnology program, explained that the tree, known scientifically as moringa oleifera lamk, contains 700 percent more than the Vitamin C in oranges, 400 percent higher than the Vitamin A in carrots, twice the protein, and four times the calcium found in milk, and thrice the potassium in bananas.

Secretary Domingo Panganiban of the NAPC has also implemented a program to encourage marginalized residents of communities in the 10 poorest provinces in the country to plant malunggay, a hardy tree that grows even in nearly arid climate and favors volcanic soil.

So significant is malunggay as a food substance for many Filipinos that its leaves have replaced other vegetables in traditional viands.

Ilaga said malunggay’s seeds, pods, and other parts are significant sources of nutrients and even oil, stressing that 40 percent of the seeds is oil that can be used for water purification and massage since it has anti-oxidant properties. It is also appropriate for cooking.

The seeds can be used for the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, gout, cramps, boils, urinary problems, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Malunggay seeds can be harvested every six months, according to experts from the University of the Philippines in Los Banos (UPLB).

Malunggay oil has a maximum shelf life of five years, Ilaga said.

What makes the tree significant for Panganiban is that it can generate as many as 10,000 jobs for every 3,000 hectares, and farmers can earn between R218,000 and R521,000 for every hectare and even more if the seeds fetch prices higher than R20 per kilo.

There may also be other uses of malunggay, said Ilaga, as she has urged government to conduct a comprehensive study on the impact of the lowly malunggay on the campaign to reduce malnutrition and increase the incomes of farmers who would cultivate the hardy tree and supply local and foreign corporations with natural ingredients that have significant cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.

Malunggay, known in England as moringa and in India as sajina, has been found by biochemists and molecular anthropologists as rich in vitamins C and A, iron, and high density lipoprotein (HDL) known in medical literature as good cholesterol, according to Ilaga.

SIMBANG GABI is one of the longest and most popular among the Filipino traditions in the country. It is when Catholic churches across the nation start to open their doors shortly before the break of dawn to welcome the faithful to the Simbang Gabi mass.
Simbang Gabi or Mass at Dawn is a nine-day novena to the Blessed Mother. The novena begins December 16 as early as 4 in the morning and culminates with the “Misa de Gallo” on Christmas Eve to welcome the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. In some churches, the panuluyan is reenacted showing the effort of Joseph and Mary to find a suitable birthplace.

ORIGIN
Simbang Gabi traces its roots in Mexico when, in 1587, the Pope granted the petition of Fray Diego de Soria, prior of the convent of San Agustin Acolman, to hold Christmas mass outdoors because the Church could not accommodate the huge number of people attending the evening mass.

During the old times, the pre-dawn mass is announced by the ringing of the church bells. In some rural areas, an hour before the start of Simbang Gabi, a brass band plays Christmas music all over the town. It is also believed that parish priests would go far knocking on doors to wake and gather the faithful to attend the misa de gallo. Farmers as well as fishermen wake up early to hear the Gospel before going to their work and ask for the grace of good harvest.

SIMBANG GABI NOW AND THEN
The changing of times does not break the preservation of celebrating Simbang Gabi although it is celebrated in new ways. Still, the tradition of Simbang Gabi continues. Part of it are the colorful lights and lanterns that fill every streets. Beautiful parols are hung in every window. Songs of the season are played everywhere to warm the hearts. Families, friends and even individuals find its way going to the nearest church to attend the nine-day novena. Shortly after the misa de gallo, families gather in their homes to celebrate Noche Buena and feasted on various delicacies like queso de bola, bibingka, puto bungbong, or a drink of salabat or hot chocolate.

SIGNIFICANCE
Simbang Gabi has become one of the most popular traditions in the country. But it is not just a tradition that is celebrated because we need to do so. It is a significant moment not only because it strengthens relationships among family members but also because it is the time where our faith is intensified. This is the time where we mostly feel the presence of the Lord because it is the spiritual preparation for Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. It does not matter if one has the stamina to complete the novena or not, what really matters is what is inside the heart. The blessing does not depend on the number of mass attended, but what is important is the disposition of the person who receives the Lord’s blessing.

History of ubi
During the years intervening between the great migration and the great famine, the ubi became a "wild" plant unknown to the people. As a "wild" plant, it continued its natural cycle of propagation and dormancy, while its underground tubers continuously spread, until accidentally discovered due to the famine.

In their constant search for food, someone accidentally struck a fleshy tuber in the ground - some colored white and some with purple color. The famished settlers cooked it and found the tuber to be very delicious and highly nutritious. The "unknown" tuber saved the people from famine. Thereupon, the newly discovered tuber was instantly venerated as a saviour crop. Its a "manna from heaven".

The sacredness of the ubi did not come for no reason, apart from being given by Providence. Ubi is also about the rich history of the ordeals of the Boholanos and their resiliency as a people able to triumph over natural and man-made adversities.

Legend
Ubi is also a good subject for a love story. Rene Sumodobila, the Bohol Ubi Center Foundation Inc. technical adviser, recounted the legend and historical interpretation of ubi.

He said that "there was a beautiful royal princess in the island of Bohol named Bugbung Humasanun, so secluded (binokotan) in her chamber where she could only be found spinning, weaving or embroidering. She was adored for her coiffured panta or talabhok, a great mass of hair accented with artificial switches which is of great offense for a man to even touch. Her appearance to the public was like the first ray of the sun that gives joy and delight, or like a sudden flash of lightning that causes fear and respect.

"A great, brave and just chief named Datung Sumanga married her after several pangngagad and going through ordeals to prove his love to the princess. He ruled his subjects, settled their disputes, protect them from the enemies, and lead them in battle. There was peace in Bohol during his rule.

"From this couple and the barangays and communities they led, grew the population of the Boholanos

Sano calle, common sense prevails in everything we do. if its really turned to blood and bread,
then its  a miracle. Its like the first miracle of Jesus turning water to wine. Miracles never happen
during this days. Its blessings that comes to us  in may ways.

Christmas: A National Fiesta

The Philippines is known as the "Land of Fiestas," and at Christmas time,  this is especially true.  Filipinos are proud to proclaim their Christmas celebration to be the longest and merriest in the world.  It begins formally on December 16 with attendance at the first of nine pre-dawn or early morning masses and continues on nonstop until the first Sunday of January, Feast of the Three Kings, the official end of the season.

The Philippines is the only Asian country where Christians predominate. Majority of its people are Roman Catholic.  Christmas, therefore, is an extremely important and revered holiday for most Filipinos.  It is a time for family, for sharing, for giving, and a time for food, fun, and friendship.

To most Filipinos, Christmas is the most anticipated fiesta of the year and is celebrated accordingly.  The splendid climate of this tropical island nation, the abundance and beauty of its flowers, and lovely landscape, its multitude of culinary delights, and above all its warm-hearted people with their true devotion to family and faith all contribute to a holiday celebrated in the true Philippines fiesta tradition.

Filipino Christmas Decors

image from Pasko
A collection
of Filipino parol,
or star lanterns,
is an essential
Christmas decoration
in the Philippines.
These lanterns
display
dazzling colorful lights
especially at night.

There is no winter or snow in the Philippines at Christmas time.  There are very few pine trees.  There is no traditional Yule log or fetching of the pine sprigs from the woods.  And Santa Claus, though visible in displays and believed by most Filipino children  to exist, seldom comes bearing gifts.

Even without snow or pine trees, there's no doubt it's Christmasin the Philippines.  Filipino Christmas decorations are abundant and beautiful.

The bamboo parol (pah-role), or star lantern, is the symbol of Christmas in the Philippines, representing the guiding light, the star of Bethlehem.   It emits a warmth unparalleled among holiday adornments and is unique to the Philippines.

Filipinos enjoy decorating their homes not only with star lanterns but also with all sorts of Christmas decors.  Brightly colored buntings or streamers are hung inside and out.  Often, Christmas cards that illustrate  scenes in the Philippines are pinned on  red and green ribbons.  The cards are then hung in the sala, or living room, for all to enjoy. Candles and wreaths are also common adornments.  Recently, Filipinos have begun choosing wreaths and other decorations made with local native materials rather than those patterned after western designs.  And many houses, particularly those in the urban areas are strung with tiny multi-colored lights both inside and out. Most Filipinos think that decorating their homes for the Christmas holidays is a must.

Filipino Christmas Traditions

It is a Filipino tradition
for children to visit their
godparents and elderly relatives
on Christmas day.
This child is showing respect
for his godmother by taking
her hand to his forehead.
In return, he receives a blessing or a gift.

Christmas in the Philippines is a mixture of Western and native Filipino traditions.  Santa Claus, the Christmas tree, sending Christmas cards, and singing carols have all been inherited from the cultures of the West.   However, these have all been  adapted to fit the nature and personality of the Filipino people.

Christmas Eve in the Philippines is one of the traditions most families celebrate.  It is a night without sleep and a continuous celebration moving right into Christmas Day.  As December 24th dawns, the last Mass of Simbang Gabi is attended; then preparation begins for Noche Buena, which is a family feast that takes place after midnight.

The Noche Buena is very much like an open house celebration.   Family, friends, relatives, and neighbors drop by to wish every family member "Maligayang Pasko" (Merry Christmas).  Food is  in abundance, often served in buffet style.   Guests or visitors partake of the food prepared by the host family (even though they are already full or bloated!).   Among the typical foods prepared in the Philippines during Christmas are: lechon (roasted pig), pancit, barbecue, rice, adobo, cakes (Western and native rice cakes), lumpia, etc.  There is also an abundance of San Miguel beer, wine, and liquor, which makes the celebration of Christmas indeed intoxicating!

The streets are well lit and are full of activities.  The children run in and out of the house  to play, to eat, and to play again. The Christmas Eve gathering provides an opportunity for a reunion of immediate and distant family members.  Some families may choose to exchange gifts at this time; others wait until Christmas day.

In general, the center of a family's Christmas gathering is always the lola, the endearing term used for a family matriarch or grandmother, who is deeply respected, highly revered, and always present.   Filipinos remember how their lola had their children form a line and step up to receive a small gift of some coins.  The older the child, the more coins he or she receives.

Some families have a talent show during Christmas Eve celebration.   Children are asked to perform.  One might sing a Christmas song, others might play a musical instrument,  or others may recite a poem or do a dance. The celebration continues until about  6 o'clock in the morning.  Those who cannot attend Mass the night before will go to the morning Mass on Christmas day.

Christmas day is a popular day for children to visit their uncles, aunts, godmothers, and godfathers.  At each home they are presented with a gift, usually candy, money,  or a small toy.  Food and drinks are also offered at each stop.  It is a day of family closeness, and everyone wishes good cheer and glad tidings.

Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation or "the real presence" was simple and direct. The idea contradicts common sense, he said. The doctrine claims that the bread and wine used in the communion ceremony is changed in substance so that what is bread and wine to all the senses is in fact the body and blood of Christ. If it looks like bread, smells like bread, tastes like bread, then it is bread. To believe otherwise is to give up the basis for all knowledge based on sense experience. Anything could be other than it appears to the senses. This argument has nothing to do with the skeptical argument about the uncertainty of sense knowledge. This is an argument not about certainty but about reasonable belief. If the Catholics are right about transubstantiation, then a book might really be a bishop, for example, or a pear might actually be Westminster Cathedral. The accidents of a thing would be no clue as to its substance. Everything we perceive could be completely unrelated to what it appears to be. Such a world would be unreasonable and unworthy of God. If the senses can't be trusted in this one case, they can't be trusted in any. To believe in transubstantiation is to abandon the basis of all knowledge: sense experience.

If it becomes real blood that contains live cells then the priest becomes a cannibal when he drinks during the mass. The bread and wine  symbolizes the body  and blood of Christ and not as real and genuine.

Baclayon - Bohol / Re: The Baclayon Church in Bohol

Bohol's Old Churches
IJsselstein, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 04:00:09

Bohol has a number of very old churches, dating back to the early years of the Spanish colonialization of the island.

Baclayon
The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon is considered to be one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. It is one of the best presevered Jesuit build churches in the region, although in the 19th century, the Augustinian Recollects added a modern facade and a number of stone buildings that now surround the church.

The first Spanish missionaries or doctrineros in the region, Fr. Juan de Torres and Fr. Gabriel Sanchez, first settled in Baclayon in 1595. Shortly after their arrival, a visita was erected on the spot.

Although Baclayon was the first seat of the Spanish Jesuit missionaries, fear of Moro mauraders soon forced them to move their headquarters more inland, to Loboc. Only in 1717, Baclayon became a parish, and construction of a new church commenced. Some 200 native forced laborers constructed the church from coral stones, which they took from the sea, cut into square blocks, and piled on to each other. They used bamboo to move and lift the stones in position, and used the white of a million eggs as to cement them together. The current building was completed in 1727. The church obtained a large bell in 1835. In the Baclayon church is a dungeon, which was used to punish natives who violated the rules of the Roman Catholic church.

Next to the church is the old convent, which also houses a small museum with centuries-old religious relics, artifacts and other antiquities, dating back to the 16th century. Included in the collection are an ivory statue of the crucified Christ looking towards heaven; a statue of the Blessed Virgin, said to be presented by Queen Catherine of Aragon; relics of St. Ignatius of Loyola, old gold embroidered ecclesiastical vestments, books with carabao skin covers, and librettos of church music written in Latin on sheep skins. Here you can also find the cuadro paintings made by the Filipino painter Liberato Gatchalian in 1859.

The Catholic Doctrine has the Doctrine of Infallability. In this teaching, they
believed that the Pope being the vicar of Christ on earth can not commit
mistakes if he proclaims , decides and confirms on matters about God or
teachings of Chirst.

In this doctrine, they believed that when the priest give blessings to bread
and wine during the mass, it becomes the real, true and genuine blood of
Christ.

This is also the same thing when the Pope declared that Jesus was born on
Dec. 25.

Out of the thousands of subscribers of this blog, 6 of you were wondering why I don’t celebrate Christmas. Maybe you read my comments posted on this blog.

I know that you knew that Christmas is not a political celebration but a religious one. So, those who are Catholics and Protestants celebrate it. But Muslims and members of other religion, on the other hand, do not celebrate Christmas.

But you might be wondering why a Christian like me do not celebrate Christmas when in fact Christmas is the celebration of the birthday of Christ.

To let you know, I don’t want to talk about religion. I was blogging on this before but the result is not good or advantageous. But since you asked this to me, so I am forced to answer: why I don’t celebrate Christmas?

Christmas is just the invention of the Roman Catholic Church

When I was still a Catholic, December 16 to December 25 were few of my busiest days of the year. To let you know, I grew up serving the San Agustin Parish (Diocese of Surigao del Sur) as Sacristan. When I was 9 years old I became an Altar Boy (that was when Rev. Valentine Kind was our Parish Priest), and was promoted to Sacristan Mayor at the age of 14 (Rev. Peter O’niell was our Parish Priest at that time).

I found the celebration good and enjoyable. But I realized that the celebration is the teaching neither of Christ nor the Apostle but just an invention of the Roman Catholic Church. If you’ll dig up the Bible, you will never find any teaching that tells everyone to celebrate the birthday of Christ. What was taught by Christ is the commemoration of His death (not His birthday).

December 25 is not Christ’s Birthday

If you are reading the Bible, did you read any verses that tell us the birthday of Christ?

I was reading the Bible since my elementary school years but I found nothing. What I found are clues when Christ born like:

That was when Christ parents went to Bethlehem to register themselves as told by a decree of Caesar Augustus.
During the birth of Christ, shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night.
Now, dig up your encyclopedias and history books about these if these are the signs of winter season.

December 25, Originally Pagan Feast

Let’s consider this wikipedia entry:

A winter festival was traditionally the most popular festival of the year in many cultures. Reasons included less agricultural work needing to be done during the winter, as well as people expecting longer days and shorter nights after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.[8] In part, the Christmas celebration was created by the early Church in order to entice pagan Romans to convert to Christianity without losing their own winter celebrations.[9][8] Certain prominent gods and goddesses of other religions in the region had their birthdays celebrated on December 25, including Ishtar, Sol Invictus and Mithras. Various traditions are considered to have been syncretised from winter festivals including the following: ….

… Alleged representation of Christ in the form of the sun-god Helios or Sol Invictus riding in his chariot. Third century mosaic of the Vatican grottoes under St. Peter’s Basilica, on the ceiling of the tomb of the Julii.
Alleged representation of Christ in the form of the sun-god Helios or Sol Invictus riding in his chariot. Third century mosaic of the Vatican grottoes under St. Peter’s Basilica, on the ceiling of the tomb of the Julii.

The Romans held a festival on December 25 called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, “the birthday of the unconquered sun.” The use of the title Sol Invictus allowed several solar deities to be worshipped collectively, including Elah-Gabal, a Syrian sun god; Sol, the god of Emperor Aurelian (AD 270â€"274); and Mithras, a soldiers’ god of Persian origin.[13] Emperor Elagabalus (218â€"222) introduced the festival, and it reached the height of its popularity under Aurelian, who promoted it as an empire-wide holiday.[14]

December 25 was also considered to be the date of the winter solstice, which the Romans called bruma.[10] It was therefore the day the Sun proved itself to be “unconquered” despite the shortening of daylight hours. (When Julius Caesar introduced the Julian Calendar in 45 BC, December 25 was approximately the date of the solstice. In modern times, the solstice falls on December 21 or 22.) The Sol Invictus festival has a “strong claim on the responsibility” for the date of Christmas, according to the Catholic Encyclopedia.[1] Several early Christian writers connected the rebirth of the sun to the birth of Jesus[15] “O, how wonderfully acted Providence that on that day on which that Sun was born . . . Christ should be born”, Cyprian wrote.[1]

Another record states that Christmas is just an invention of an heretic:

“An Armenian writer of the eleventh century states that the Christmas festival, invented in Rome by a heretic, Artemon, was first celebrated in Constantinople in 373.” (The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge, vol. 3, p. 47)

Celebrated with pagan rituals

It was recorded in The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge that says:

“The pagan festival with its riot and merry-making was so popular that Christians were glad of an excuse to continue its celebration with little change in spirit or in manner. Christian preachers of the West and the Nearer East protested against the unseemly frivolity with which Christ’s birthday was celebrated, while Christians of Mesopotamia accused their worship for adopting as Christian this pagan festival. Yet the festival rapidly gained acceptance and became at last s firmly established that even the Protestant revolution of the sixteenth century was not able to dislodge

We, in the Missionary Baptist churches don't have any church services relating
to Christmas celebration. We have christmas parties , gift giving and etc. because
it is part of our culture  and traditions and it is  one of the most celebrated
Filipino festival.

We believed that Christ was born but not on Christmas Day.

Born on Dec. 25 ?

Honest scholars admit that the customs of Christmas and a Dec. 25 celebration long predate the birth of Christ. Nevertheless, wasn't Jesus born on Dec. 25 ? Let's look at some of the scriptural evidence.

Luke's Gospel, describing Christ's birth, tells us: "So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night" (Luke 2:6-8, emphasis added throughout).

We see that when Jesus was born shepherds were spending the night with their flocks in open fields. In that region, from December to February, though the heat of the day might feel comfortable enough when the human body is covered, the cold of the night was piercing. Thus the shepherds never kept their flocks and herds out in the open country from December through February-it was simply too cold (Alexander Hislop, The Two Babylons, 1959, p. 2). This in itself tells us that Jesus could not have been born anywhere near Dec. 25.

The Roman census system is another historical proof that Jesus wasn't born in December. Luke 2:1 tells us that "it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered." However, this would not have happened in winter because "the middle of winter was not fitting for such a business, especially for women with child, and children to travel in. Therefore, Christ could not be born in the depth of winter ... And if any shall think the winter wind was not so extreme in these parts, let him remember the words of Christ in the gospel, `pray that your flight be not in the winter'" (Hislop, p. 92).

The Romans were efficient administrators. They would never consciously choose a time to register every man, woman and child when travel would have been so difficult because of cold and inclement weather. Here, too, is biblical proof that Jesus was not born in December's cold weather.

A far more likely scenario is that Jesus was born in the autumn, around the time of the biblical Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:34-36), when Joseph and Mary would have traveled to Jerusalem to keep the Feast along with thousands of other Jewish families. This also helps us understand why in the town Bethlehem, a few miles to the south of Jerusalem, "there was no room for them in the inn" (Luke 2:7)-the town would have been crowded with other travelers keeping the Feast at this time of year. (For additional biblical evidence that Jesus was likely born at this time and not on or near Dec. 25, request our free booklet Holidays or Holy Days: Does It Really Matter Which Days We Keep?)

Teachers poised to sue GSIS
July 29, 2008 22:47:00
Jerry E. Esplanada
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"Public school teachers are set to file a class suit against the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) over some P2.5 to P6 billion in unpaid teachers’ premiums.

The GSIS, however, said the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) was barking up the wrong tree, pointing to the Department of Education (DepEd) as the one responsible for deducting pension fund contributions from its employees and remitting the premium to GSIS.

The GSIS also questioned the motives of the 15,000-strong ACT and accused it of allowing itself to be used by the Lopez family group to “wage war for the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).”

The GSIS and the Lopez family fought for control of Meralco during board elections last May. The Lopez group retained control of the utility but GSIS, which holds substantial shares in the electric utility, has countered with various legal suits.

But ACT chair Antonio Tinio strongly denied the allegation, which he called “absurd, ignorant and desperate.”

Tinio on Tuesday told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that “long before (GSIS president and general manager) Winston Garcia raised a peep against Meralco, ACT was already out in the streets campaigning against the [huge] profits being made by Meralco and other utilities at the people’s expense,” Tinio noted.

He said Garcia’s policies and programs, have “made life miserable for thousands of public school teachers and other GSIS members.”

Tinio asked the GSIS to “attend to the legitimate grievances of its members instead of spewing out baseless and malicious lies against its critics.”

According to Tinio, the GSIS and DepEd are “supposedly undertaking a reconciliation of accounts, a process that has been going on for nearly four years with very little progress.”

“It’s stalled at the very first stepâ€"the updating of teachers’ service records which is still not yet complete,” he said.

Pareha tag huna-huna calle, si Manny Villar siguro na nga modagan for president.
Dawaton ba kaha siya sa opposition? Bag-o ra man ni siya nga nahimong anti-
arroyo. Musugot kaha si Ping nga siya ang mopuli. Sa akong estimate mas winable
si Manny kay Ping. Si Noli seguro gyud nga maoy manok  ni Arroyo.

Noli and Manny is the dream  fight for president.

I was very disgusted to the GSIS when  I inquired my balance of my restructured
salary loan last Dec. 4, 2008. The last posting of my monthly amortizations of my
loan was Sept. 2007. Hangtod karon, dili sila makapakita ug computation kon pila
na ang akong balance. Ang ilang tubag ," we are stilll updating of records". Ang
ilang updating nagsogod pa niadtong 2006. Hangtod  kanus-a pa mahuman?
For clarification , I went ot the OIC vice president for further inquiry. Unsay gitubag
ni Mr. Gangan, " just open the internet ,www.gsis.com.ph and you can see the latest
computation." Akong gisubay, ang mogawas, wala record nga makita, "updating of
records ang mogawas sa internet.

Low retirement benifets is the complainst of most retirees. GSIS  had a new computation.
I inquired of my monthly pension in case I will retired. The bases of computing is my salary
three years back not like before that the computation is one step higher of your present
salary.

Another problem is the cridetable record years in the service. In my Deped record,
my total number of years is 26 years. My creditable years of service to be computed
is 23 years, its because I lacks premiums payments to GSIS. I traced my payroll and
payslip and there was no interuptions or unpaid premiums. Since I started in 1982
there was no cut -off of my monthy premiums until now. I lost three years in the
service govt service.

Until now, I have not retired because of these problems. I wrote a letter to the GSIS
Manila and the  answer was  ' file a case"to the concerned employee'.

Teachers run vs GSIS chief Winston Garcia

A group of public school teachers in Metro Manila staged a a fun run along Baywalk in Roxas Boulevard Sunday morning to oppose Government Service and Insurance System president and general manager Winston Garcia and seek an end to the malpractices the GSIS chief has been doing at the state pension fund's helm.

The protesters said the plight of the teachers worsened when Garcia took office at the state pension fund.

Among the complaints were the delayed posting of collection and remittance of GSIS premiums, erroneous deductions from benefits for loans the teachers have not applied for, and low retirement benefits.

The teachers want Garcia removed from GSIS. They also accused him of using his power to make the state pension fund an enterprise.

Enriqueta Disuanco, GSIS vice-president for corporate support, earlier said the anti-Garcia protesters are unfair.

She said those who were protesting do not representing the majority of GSIS members.

She also said that GSIS only prepares the deduction reports and it is actually the Department of Education that deduct the fees from the public teachers' salaries.

Disuanco claimed that Garcia carried out reforms like computerizing and centralizing their records to provide efficient service to their members.

She cited a P40 billion increase in GSIS income in 2001 when Garcia assumed his post
