i'm thankful that we're done with saturday evening's anticipated mass despite my distaste for night driving amid a heavy downpour, otherwise i would have missed sunday mass.  it's a real lazy sunday, i ended up sleeping on the sofa throughout most of the day due to vertigo caused by sinusitis.  i couldn't even open tb without feeling nauseous, let alone read.  bad day. :(

knock on my door, bai hubs, and i can administer the same formula to you, with the same process; tingalon ta ka by squirting the formula inside your mouth using a syringe without a needle, hahaha!  angayan gyod ka, sure gyod ko. ;D

Aw, mao ba? Di man hinuon maingon nga unique ang iyang porma, pero, hmm, unsa man diay ang hukom sa mga hilabtanon, nga siya jud kuno?

;D

bisag ang kinataw-an na lay basehan, kanang pa-charming nga pinolitiko, wa nay lain.  sorry na lang siya kun hilabtanon ang mga tawo.  he put himself up for public office.  he is even a breath away from being president of the philippines.  (what if something happens to pnoy?  heaven forbid!)  we can also imagine the resources of public funds at his disposal (representations, travels, etc.) that are part of the perks of his office.  imagine such funds being used to finance his girlfriend.

so come on, let's not kid ourselves.  a public official is always answerable to the public.  that includes answerability for his moral behavior, which necessarily speaks of whether he is fit to hold public trust.

estimated 10 months old.  when i picked him up last february, i presumed he was no more than 6 weeks old.  he was weak and sick and still incapable of eating by himself, i had to force feed him with a formula of egg yolk, milk, and cooking oil.  he made it!

;)

to each his own taste, indeed.  but i must say you have a strange taste, lorenz.  she's too much of a vamp, a normal man except perhaps marilyn manson or alice cooper wouldn't want to be seen with her.  and what are those orange underwears with a peek-a-boo panty to boot?

hahaha!  she doesn't only look pregnant (thanks to luckybelle's imagination) in the first picture, she also looks like she's been given a karate chop on her spine.

the pictures you've posted seem like a trial run for her eventual playboy magazine spread, if at all.  hey, don't waste olive oil on her.  valencia is a good source of lana sa lubi.

from some other angle, my shy cat looks as if he's wearing bangs.  the usual dark hair on the forehead common to most cats looks like it was cut straight across his forehead in his case, like a little girl's.

this is one cat i chose to keep instead of giving him to some other home somewhere else because of his extreme shyness.

We Filipinos are taught in schools to get education so that we can find jobs here and abroad. In other countries, their students are taught how to start their own business and be independent.

woe then to those countries who teach only business to their students.  what countries are these?  don't they have service sectors or health care experts?

i must be an exception then (sorry for the word) because i went through college and all the way to post graduate studies without being taught, not even once, to look for a job abroad.  where one opts to work is supposed to be a personal choice, it is not taught.  and  naturally, in our country as in any other, when one reaches major age, one is already independent.

Hmm. I hope that along the way, this [the absence of correlation, supra] will not be perverted to serve as a reason to eliminate those whose brains cannot contribute much to the feeding of hungry mouths. After all, there will always be those who will be of lesser--and those of greater--utility than others in this regard.

thankfully, it is not for fellow humans to decide to eliminate those who fail to make the grade.

;)

thanks.  that would be a dream.  unfortunately, like the ph or rh bill, it would remain as such to me.  carelessness in my younger days (including frequent snorkeling at sumilom island, that terrific marine reservation of dumaguete's silliman university) had done something to my right ear.  being underwater is now a no-no for me, the doctor says, hehe.  i can remain on shore and watch over your things, with my cats and dogs. :D

Hmm. There could very well be no correlation at all between population and poverty but, surely, it cannot be said without qualification that it is necessarily a good thing for a country to have a fast-growing population.

(N.B.: I'm not for or against this so-called RH Bill, of which I know next to nothing.)

as in everything else, moderation is still the safest and best recourse.  moderation, like responsible parenthood through natural family planning as against artificial family planning.

oh, by the way, my initial reason for starting this thread is to try to slowly discover, based on hard numbers, what those nobel-winning economists saw that our honorable legislator could not see.  along the way, it helps to look into ourselves and our achievements.  it makes us see that more of us need not mean more mouths to feed but more hands that work and more brains that achieve. :D

In the United States:

There are over 50,000 Indian doctors practicing medicine.
There are over 20,000 Filipino doctors practicing medicine.

Isn't it amazing that despite the fact that India's population is 10x that of the Philippines, the amount of Indian doctors in the United States is only 2x that of Filipino doctors.

An Indian medical intern once told me (and I paraphrase): "It's really amazing how you Filipinos have reshaped the American Medical System. Whenever we think of 'Nursing' an image of a Filipino Nurse comes to mind. Or when one thinks of 'Doctor' an image of a Filipino or Indian physician comes to mind."

funny, where i am, during last year's philippine independence day celebration, this country's president complimented the filipinos with this story (in his speech) that went something like: we go to the philippines for treatment of our ailments in that country's hospitals.  a friend of mine chose to go to the u.s. for a major surgery.  guess who did the surgery... a filipino doctor!

Top 25 least corrupt countries according to the Corruption* Perceptions Index (PCI)

1.  Denmark
1.  New Zealand
1.  Singapore
4.  Finland
4.  Sweden
6.  Canada
7.  Netherlands
8.  Switzerland
8.  Australia
10. Norway
11. Iceland
11. Luxembourg
13. Hong Kong**
14. Ireland
15. Austria
15. Germany
17. Barbados
17. Japan
19. Qatar
20. United Kingdom
21. Chile
22. Belgium
22. United States
24. Uruguay
25. France

(note:  same numbers in ranking means a tie)

there is no single country or dependency that’s technically poor in this list of least corrupt countries.

the good news, the philippines (at 134th out of 180 countries) is not at the bottom 25 of this list.  the bad news, indonesia, which used to be the most corrupt in southeast asia, is now 110th, a real feat for their current president.  more bad news, we're tied in our ranking with the likes of sierra leone and zimbabwe.

*corruption - the abuse of entrusted power for private gain
**dependency - land or territory geographically distinct from the country governing it

the numbers, fr chic, had actually convinced me over what i came across some years back -- that economically our country is actually punching above its reach, ala pacquiao against margarito.

that article was written by a british writer who showed that the philippines is in reality doing much better than what others perceive.  sometimes, though, we ourselves are fond of self-flagellation that we'd rather concentrate on the pain rather than on the redemption of healing by achieving.

why is a hypothetical PH or GH Bill more needed than an RH Bill?  it is because the stated primary reason for the RH Bill is the reduction of poverty.  the less there are to partake of the cake, the more will each one have.

but there are those, like the economists of nobel prize caliber, who claim that there’s no correlation between population and poverty.  some number crunching:

we can dream.

there wouldn't have been a divisive issue over a potential law if the legislator who came up with the bright idea of passing into law his proposed reproductive health bill (RH Bill) had instead come up with a proposal to pass into law a political health bill (PH Bill) or government health bill (GH Bill).  basically, this dream bill would have provisions on how our political leaders and government functionaries can take steps to correct, police, and punish themselves for corruption.

impossible?  of course.  that's why it's a dream bill. ;D

how true.  they could have their banner ad in tausug for all i care, just don't let me go down the plane in manila and be asked for 50 dollars for a 90-peso taxi ride distance.  i get heartbroken every time i go to our own international airport at the capital.

don't let me go to a resort hotel in tagbilaran where the hotel's service driver keeps asking for a christmas gift throughout the ride from the pier, only to be replaced by a roomboy who also asked.  isn't that embarrassing?

i never went back to that resort hotel.  i have no choice in the case of our international airport.

we have to admit that we're not tourist friendly, yet, in terms of training and facilities.  if i were a foreigner, i'd rather go to thailand or malaysia where there are at least exotic temples and people in the tourist industry are better behaved. >:(
