In what age should people stop possessing ambitions?

Impossible.

Higher thought and creativity is part of the job of the right side of the cerebellar cortex and part of the cerebral aspect. Whereas the left region is primarily based on logical reason and cognition.

So long as the right-side of the cereberealla aqueduct and processes are funcitiong and not impeded by the cerebral or cerebellar ischemia or a neuro embolus, then there will be no hindrance to the creativity, thus translating in the human sense of 'continued ambition'.

Ambition is nothing but a human realization of a dream/creativity. The yearning to complete a physical, mental goal. Intrinsic to that, neuroanatomically speaking, is creativity. Inhibit creativity, and you inhibit ambition.

lol,
Your question is very vague
and interesting because it spans and is an important topic in Medical Psychiatry. :)

OoO

Nice thread, Datz.

Ancient: Phoenicians, Sassamids, Etruscan-Roman, Hellenistic Greece, Qing Dynasty China, Chandra Gupta Maurya Empire (Of Indra/India), Judean Kingdoms

Early Modern:
Hapsburg Dynasty, Romanov Dynasty, Imperial Spain, English, Papal States, Islamic Caliphate, Ming Dynasty China, Mogul Empire (India)

Present Epoch:
The United States, The United Kingdom of Great Britain, Germany, Italy, PRC, India, France

My point:
Each epoch has its own influential power states. One needs to examine this in chronological retrospect; the proper historical analysis. That is why we emulsify and segregate time epochs according to age, culture, and reason.

So one can infer intra-epocheal analysis.

Cheers,
#40605
Doesn't matter, we all have pride in some way or another.

Men and women both commit similar sins. Be it pride, adultery, greed, etc.

You name, you've got it.

The point is, guys, that Grace is given to us. The saving power of Grace.

We, who are sinners of what it may be, are perfected in Grace.

God Bless.

If you look at the demographics of Asian-Americans that go on to graduate/medical schools here in the 'states; majority of the Asian-population are either: 1) Filipino or 2) Indian

lol.

Am I surprised? No.

The Filipino is blessed with a strong Roman Culture, a Christian Culture, and mastery of English or Spanish.

It pivots the Filipino to succeed in Western Host Nations.

It is safe to say that the Filipino, in general, is just naturally smart. Intrinsic Intelligence.

Kaning mga Bol-anon diri sa 'states, especially ang mga Valencianons, are very hard working. Puro tanan Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, ug Lawyers diri.

In my generation of Fil-Ams alone; most of us are either studying to be or are In Medical School, Dentistry School, Podiatry, Optometry, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Engineering.

Smart kaayo ning Bol-anon/ Pilipino.

From knowing and befriending other Bol-anons and Boholano-Americans, we are a very hard working bunch. Structured and our priorities are set in place.
Bohol is not a poor province in the Philippines. A rich province.

Datu,

The state of California (which is one state of the 50 states that make up these United States) is bigger in land mass than Japan or the Philippines. :)

We have states such as Minnesota, South and North Dakota, Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, etc etc that are vast lands.

Most of these United States are uninhabited. Still virgin fertile land.

This is what Land is ;) :

USA is one of the largest nations (in land mass, in military power and economic prowess).

I have a friend who went to college with me in Allegheny. He has a family farm that stretches over 300+ acres of land.

Ponder this;

To know how much Our Lord God In Heaven loved man so much as to send his only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, to be Heaven's Perfect Lamb. To conquor sin and death.

To be the mediator between God and Man.

Ponder what Our Blessed Mother, The Virgin Mary, went through?
To see her own baby boy, Christ Jesus The Saviour, being nailed to the cross.
To complete the mission that he was given by His Father in Heaven.

I want her to do some Post Grad studies on Implant or any specialization she wanted, either in States or England.

She is enjoying her studies, extra curricular and social activities. She want to practice abroad and do Dental mission for the poor communities.

You can communicate with her thru friendster or multiply account.

Thanks Dong Bran, for your thoughtfulness and compliments. Hope you can be friends someday.

Definitely, Glacier.

Trust me, bud, I've dated plenty of girls in my day--ranging from english majors, to nursing students, to podiatry students, to poli sci students, and even pre-law majors. With political views from christian conservative, to a tree-hugging liberal (no pun intended) lol. Hahahaha!

I really don't care when it comes to political views, cuz well to be frank, I have friends who are from different sides of the political spectrum.

I like to think that I'm the traditional type, to be honest really. But I'll tell you the truth--I learned alot from dating different types of girls. You get to taste different types, learn different points of view (and the conversations with them have been awesome, hahaha).

Red heads, blondes, brunettes, asian, indian, latina etc.
Rich, poor, middle class.

My point is for a man to make a right choice is to date openly. See what you really want and not what you 'think' you want.

;)

Anonymous Diary Blog / Weight Loss: Project Health
March 03, 2009, 06:56:42 AM
This is the official weight loss thread, in here, lol. So a group of us guys (fellow med student colleagues of mine) have been enrolled at the local Gym and so far, we've been doing upper body/lower body work out (weight lifting) and thoracic work out.

We joked around in anatomy lab as we dissected the heart, but when we opened the pericardium, we saw the atherosclerotic fibrofatty plaque accumulating in the endothelium.

Since them, we (we'are also a study group, hahaha) have been working out every Mon, Wed, Frid and on Sundays. For about an hour and a half per day. Not too bad, and ive noticed that its also a stress reliever.

So this is an open invitation for those who are also looking to loose weight and have had trouble inspiring yourself to go out and work out. We can do this together.

The goal here is to chart what we've done, how much we've lost and the physical results. We can do this on a weekly report system.

Feel free to post pictures of the results thus far, muscle mass accumulation etc.

Join Me. Project Health!

Why? Because it is good for our Health!

Its good to hear from you too Bran, hope your doing well in school and your family as well. GOD BLESSED AS ALWAYS.

How honorable of your daughter, Mr. Rald, to partake in that. We have something similar as well, but 3rd year and 2nd years are expected to complete it in their spring semester. I looked at your daughter's pictures, sir, and I must say, how very proud you must be to have such a beautiful and intelligent daughter. Following in her father's footsteps :)

My studies are fairing well, Mr. Rald, I just took our midterms this past week was happy with the results. My study group and I are just beginning to get used to the work load that is expected of 1st year. We will begin our 1st semester of 2nd year this coming May.

I am a bit nervous, pero, as what they always say, hard work is the best preparation, diba? Is your daughter planning to practice in The Philippines, or is she looking to relocate abroad? I know daghaan raba demand in Dentistry diri sa 'states.

Sir, I would like to probably someday take part in a medical mission to the Phils.

Has our Manhood and Machismo image become a thing of the past?

I happened to watch one night a TV reality show, The Bachelor. The good looking guy, in search of another woman of his well-heeled life, confessed that the reason of the break-up with his wife is her being independent. She left him broken because of that and their marriage in tatters.

Are our modern women too strong for us? Does a woman's sense of independence become a bane or boon for men these days?

It depends, amigo.

If you're a traditionalist/conservative type, you'll find someone to your liking. If you're the opposite, then am sure you can still find someone else to your liking.

Women, just like men, come in different sizes, shapes, color, tastes.

The best thing in this predicament is that it makes the puzzle hunting--interesting. haha

Ako, I am open to conversation with different christian members or even aethiests. I like to hear their different points of view and interpretation on things, but when it gets to the point where they are pushing down their view of forcing it on me, I politely end the conversation.

As for aethiests, I have friends who are agnostics and/or aethiests. To each his/her own decision.

Dear Ate Ging,

I remembered that one time when you made that special cookie for Allie. And felt a presence of someone who I know very well. Thank You, Ate Ging. And I mean this with my heart. You helped me grieve when I was in such sadness over a year ago. Your prayers and the prayers of those in here helped me and my friends.

And I think it is a sign of a good friend to be there through good times and bad times.

So thank you for your warm support and your encouraging words, through my time in here. With all my heart, I mean that.

May The Good Lord continue to bless you and watch over you.

#40634
Inspiration & Hope / The Emperor And The Monk
March 01, 2009, 03:33:15 AM
There was Emperor of a vast empire, who ruled and sat on top of  golden throne. He was praised and given divine praises by those his subjects in his Imperial Court. No one was permitted to look at him in the face as it was fobidden to do so; by the law.

Wherever he walked, whereever he trodded, his entourage would sprinkle flowers before each path, and his Imperial Robe stetched 40 feet--requiring 10 servants to carry his cape.

Then one day, the Emperor traveled to a distant battle field to defeat rebels in the north. His conoy passed by a small abbey, that was occupied by 7 simple monks. Christian Monks. The emperor, tired form a long day's travel, bequethed that they should stop in the abbey and rest. For a while.

When told of his arrival, the monks courted the Emperor. Gave him food when asked, offered him lodging when requested. And as the Emperor finished his simple meal, composed of porridge, lentils and a few scraps of meat (that was all that the monks could offer--to which was already considered 'a heavy meal' for them), the Emperor saw an old monk kneeling by a window.

Seeing this, the emperor rose from his chair and asked the old monk, "Who do you pray to, old man?" "do you knot know that your Lord and Emperor sits behind you?" "why do you not address my imperial presence, old man?" "do you know that i have the power to erase kingdoms from the face of the earth, and the power over life and death?"

The monk turned his head and said, "Yes, majesty, you have such power. You have my fear. But my Lord and God has my love."

The comment the old windbag said to the emperor was odd. Unfrequent. Such piety in an old man.

The emperor, stricken with fond interest, lowered himself and said to the old man, "Who do you pray to, old man?"

The monk, in calm and serenity, with soothing voice said, "To the One and Only God. His name is Jesus."

The emperor asked, "Who is this Jesus?"

The monk explained to the emperor. Everything.

Days passed, and the emperor was interested, growing interest. The monk showed him the Septuagint, the Greek Bible. The emperor, being wise and academic, read it. Word for word.
And oddly enough time passed by. Days turned to weeks.

And the convey commander asked his emperor, "Majesty, we must leave this place, the war continues. Your presence is needed."

The call of duty was unavoidable. And he prepared to leave, but before he left, the old monk came to the emperor's quarters and gave him a copy of the Septuagint. "Take this and read it often, your majesty."

The emperor smiled, "Thank you, my friend."

The emperor read of the bible, and dreamed frequently. And became the First Christian Emperor of the Roman Empire.

He was Constantine The Great.

Yes, God is Great.  Sa una it was Goliath, that Philistine giant who was so powerful that he dared to fight the whole of the Jewish army.  PINTIK RA ANG ARMAS ni David niadtong panahuna, apan sa paglabay sa panahun, nautro ang hitsura:

The Israelite with their vast arsenal, is a country to watch  not only in the MIDDLE EAST< BUT ON THE ENTIRE PLANET.  And now, we have the Palestinian, the remnant of the ancient Philistines, has only peebles to throw and their RPG to scare the Southern portion of Israel.

The Lord refers Himself as the Father of Israel,
"I will lead them beside streams of water

Time and time again He refers to them as HIS people.

Bible Study / Re: Ang Panalangin Sa Israel

My friend, no nation has defeated Israel. Israel cannot be defeated. Israel Is Uncoquorable. Israel is OF GOD.

The Romans destroyed Juraselem and burned the city in AD 75. They scattered the seed of Judea. And in AD 135-145, The Romans made an effort to annihilate the Jewish People and changed the name of Judea to Palestine.

Yet, they did not succeed.

Exactly 1800 years after the Jewish people were forced form Judea, they returned  to their ancestral land. The land that was theirs since the days of Abraham. Since the days of Jacob. Of Isaac. Of David. Of Solomon. Since the days of Jesus.  :)
(after all, our savior was a Jew)

Israel survived the pestilence of persecution for over 2000 years. Survived the Spanish Inquisition, survived the 100 years war, survived the Protestant-Catholic Wars (to which they were victims), survived Hitler's Holocaust (to which over 12 Million Jews were murdered)

And yet, here they are, back in ISRAEL. The land of their forebears.

We are Told in Jeremiah 31

This is what the LORD says:

"The people who survive the sword
       will find favor in the desert;
I will come to give rest to Israel."

3 The LORD appeared to us in the past,  saying:
       "I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

4 I will build you up again
and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel.
Again you will take up your tambourines
and go out to dance with the joyful.

5 Again you will plant vineyards
       on the hills of Samaria;
       the farmers will plant them
       and enjoy their fruit.

6 There will be a day when watchmen cry out
       on the hills of Ephraim,
'Come, let us go up to Zion,
to the LORD our God.' "

7 This is what the LORD says:
       "Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost of the nations.
Make your praises heard, and say,
       'O LORD, save your people,
       the remnant of Israel.'

8 See, I will bring them from the land of the north
and gather them from the ends of the earth.
Among them will be the blind and the lame,
       expectant mothers and women in labor;
       a great throng will return.

9 They will come with weeping;
they will pray as I bring them back.
I will lead them beside streams of water
on a level path where they will not stumble,
       because I am Israel's father,
and Ephraim is my firstborn son.

10 "Hear the word of the LORD, O nations;
       proclaim it in distant coastlands:
'He who scattered Israel will gather them
and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'

11 For the LORD will ransom Jacob
and redeem them from the hand of those stronger than they.

12 They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion;
they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORDâ€"
the grain, the new wine and the oil,
the young of the flocks and herds.
They will be like a well-watered garden,
and they will sorrow no more.

13 Then maidens will dance and be glad,
young men and old as well.
       I will turn their mourning into gladness;
I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

14 I will satisfy the priests with abundance,
and my people will be filled with my bounty,"
       declares the LORD.

Did not David, who was then a mere Sheppard, take down the great Philistine Giant, Goliath?

Did not all of Israel defeat the Greeks when they tried to invade Judea?

Because God has willed it and has said it time and time again that All Israel is His people. Out of all the tribes and nations of the world, he selected Israel and delivered them time and time again from perdition.

In exodus, it is detailed to us how He set them free from the bondage of Egypt. After his judgement was made known to them. And when Pharaoh's hardened heart tried to race towards all Israel, did not The Lord God swallow all of Pharaoh's charriots? None let alive. All of the Entire Egyptian Army was leveled.

Israel of the present--in 1947, as well as in the 1967 War was cornered in all sides against the Arab nations, who cursed the existence of Israel. 7 nations against Israel. The armies, air forces, navies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen--all of them against the small nation of Israel. Composed of survivors of the Holocaust.

All 7 arab nations were defeated, decisively in battle. 7 against 1. And the 1 defeated all 7.

Was it luck? Was it coincidence?

Nay, I tell you, it was the Will of God.

Would God The Almighty forsake HIS own people? To which HIS only begotten Son was among--and born of?

Again,

"The Lord has said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse; and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

For those who ask, 'How do we clone things?"

This is a good illustration of the basics:

To clone an animal, researchers first take mature cells, such as skin cells, from the animal to be cloned. Next, they take an unfertilized egg from an adult female of the same species and remove the nucleus, which is the cell structure that houses the chromosomes that contain an organism’s DNA. Researchers then place one of the skin cells next to the nucleus-free egg and apply an electric pulse, which causes the skin cell to fuse with the egg. The fused cell, which contains the skin cell’s nucleus, divides and forms an early-stage embryo. This embryo is implanted in the uterus of another female animal, called a surrogate mother, and allowed to develop. The surrogate mother then gives birth to an animal that is genetically identical to the adult that donated the skin cells. This newborn animal is referred to as a clone.

Glacier, I never thought about it in that aspect. Your analogy on the Write Brothers' Aeroplane struck me and got me thinking.

Sure, you do have a point. It illustrates man's unsatiable need to know, to understand, to comprehend. It is that driving force that spearheaded our civilization, to think about it in a broader term--it is the very reason for the maximal progression of the Human Species.

Since the days of the Iliad, of ancient times, Man has studied the stars, charted the heavens, dreamed of the gods. Asked questions about the Divine nature.

You asked the question, "So is this cloning a hope we all are waiting for?"

My answer to this is, "No."

Man can never be satiated. Perhaps our generation or our children's generation will be satisfied, but only for a while. If genetic cloning is conquored and ascertained, it will only lead to further studies--and further dreams to be acquired.

If you look at this in a scientific perspective, one will know that genetics--per se cellular mitosis is linked to immortality. You can kill a bacteria, of freeze a bacteria--and keep it frozen for eons, but if you unleash it again provide it with sustenance, it will be re-awakened. Re-animated. We in the scientific/medical body have done this already.

We observed this when Dr. Cano and Dr. Boruckiactually revived (brought back to life!) over 1,000 types of bacteria and other microorganisms. Some of the life-forms date as far back as 135 million years which was the time of the dinosaurs. Can DNA survive that long? Many point to the plain physics of degrading DNA over time and state that organisms cannot survive for millions of years without having the bases of the DNA, which constitutes the genetic code, degrade to such an extent that the organisms would no longer be viable. But nonetheless, the bacterium was re-animated. Mastotermes electrodominicus was reanimated after some 25-100 million years of 'death' being preserved in a fossilized amber.

We ask ourselves, "How was this possible?" The answer to this is the intrepidity of m-RNA and RNA genome.

Genetics guarantees Immortality. Death is but a manifest of systemic/organic failure due to degradation of transcription right? Due to a defect or mutation (point mutation, insertion, deletion, trinucleotidic degradation, mismatch damage) due to a problem int he start site of transcription, translation and elongation process.

This only means that there was an 'error' that triggers systemic failure. Some kind of repression.

Molecular Genetics answers because it can counter repression, it can co-activate, it can co-repress, and facilitate invitro protein synthesis needed for transcription.

Theoretically, this means that immortality is possible. There is a gene for death. As one ages over time, genetic regulation occurs, a regulator to turn off mylenin production--this leads to loss and damage of the neuroal calyces, reduction and damage of neurotransmitter messages. This results in clinicals: Gaucher's Disease, Tay-Sachs, Alzheimer's, CFS etc.

A complement of genes being turned off will result in: cardiovascular, thoracic, neurogenic, renal, nephrogenic problems. Which, if left untreated, will result to Death.

That is the Medical aspect.

But the scientific aspect--we realize that there is a genetic regulation of turning gene expressivity "OFF". This means there are repressors being activated. If it is 'off', that means it can be turned 'on' again. Through invitro analysis;studies.

Which, ultimately, means that immortality, literally, is possible.

Scientifically, it is very possible.

But that feat--is something that our descendants will acquire. Science has yet to advance to the degree that can realize such notions.

My  younger brother, Don Rico, is taking an Intensive Course right now in Honors Spanish, which is part of his curriculum at his studies in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic High School.

The program the school has, which is rather prestigious, offers high school students an option to study abroad either to Rome, Italy, Heidelburg, Germany or Madrid, Spain.

My brother, who is taking both Honors Spanish and Honors Latin right now told me of his interest to study in Spain. I was ecstatic to hear that.

I think it will be a great experience for him to do so--and to have a better undersanding of the culture, life, language of Mother Spain.

I think it would be excellent, as it would be like walking in the footsteps of Rizal.

This particular verse always manages to make me cry.
Why?
Because it reminds me of the gentle nature and the Loving words of Our Lord.

He came to Elijah and spoke to him in a whisper.
A gentle whisper.

:'(

1 Kings 19: 9, 11 - 13

9     And there he came to a cave, and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Eli'jah?"
11    And he said, "Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake;
12    and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire
;

and after the fire a still small voice.

13    And when Eli'jah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Eli'jah?"

the check and balance of nature is evident indeed in the whole picture of this evolutionary process. but we may have over-intervened in this dynamic of checking and balancing because we are now trying to control the inherent flow of nature. behind that knowledge we've gained about this evolution is the stark reality of fear that nature will eventually destroy us, no matter what, just as it did to the past living behemoths and other creatures.

That is very true, Glacier. And indeed, it bears light to the phrase of: "Beware of what you want to know/ Beware of what you do/ Every action bears a consequence"

One of the many reasons why many species have perished in the earth is due to the natural evolutionary flow of things. The weak will perish to make room for the strong. As nature has determined that weak organisms will perish and be unable to proliferate their genetic codes due to failure to mate, failure to metabolize or catabolize/anbolize energy requirements. The strong, meaning the fit, will be able to do so. The powerful in size, the intelligent will be able to outwit a predator and survive to mate, whereas the weak/dumbwhitted will be predated and become fodder for predatory species.

This is a reality in the animal world.

Man is different. The reason why we have so many diseases such as Downe Syndrome (Trisomy 21, HIV, Menkes, Cerebral Ataxia, Telengenctasis, Achondroplasia, Familial hypercholesterolemia etc etc) is because many individuals who naturally would have perished and be eradicated, did not. Instead, they survived to mate and pass on their autosomal dominant or autosomal recessive diseases to their progeny etc.

As a result, we have a manifest of such diseases.

Man's ability to conquor natural flow of things has its gains, but definitely has its fall backs/setbacks if you analyze this in a natural-scientific observation and analysis.

There in lies the question that many scientists are debating in Academic Forums, my friend.

It isn't a question of 'can we do it', but more so on the level of , 'should we do it?'

There are pure scientists whose life work has paved the road of science and understanding through use of 'questionable' tactics. And many purists would so as much like to inhibit questions of ethical rights when in dealing with science. For them, it is a limiting factor, a rope that prevents the complete realization of the possiblity.

Their argument is that nature does not work in 'ethics' or 'ethos' or 'mores'. Said concepts are human invented abstract concepts.

They would subscribe to the notion of:
Science keeps Man from sinking into the valley of crippling irrationalism and paralyzing obscurantism.

Whereas there are bioethicists that would subscribe to the notion that:
Ethics and Philosophy prevents science from falling into the marsh of obsolete materialism and moral nihilism.

Even this topic, which is genetically feasable, discusses about genetic cloning.

What kind of animal or species in this planet has that ability, aside from Man?

It is the advances in Molecular Cloning, DNA-RNA-mRNA-Protein analysis, and PCR mechanisms have made this feasible and attainable.

Man can clone a sheep (we have already), can clone dogs (we have already), can clone primates (we have already) and can even clone humans (which we have not yet done due to ethical issues).

So the question stands: Can we clone dinosaurs?
Sure we can, but we need to acquire hematocrit levels, as well as chromosomal samples to do so. And we would need a plasmid or host to grow the DNA strand that would be annealed after hybridization.

Theoretically it is possible. But physically and operationally, Science needs to develop that said platform to continue.

But if this does occur in the future, and am sure it will--as academia would demand it for the good of science--Man would, literally, have the power to raise the Dead to Life.

Genetics, my friends. It's all about Genetics. It is the reason why no one really 'dies'. Genetics is immortal. Even the dead Pharaohs of Egypt, though are physically dead, are genetically still alive. The DNA of say King Ramses II, whose remains are in a museum, can be genetically cloned and proliferated in assay. And we could, in practice, raise him from the dead.

All of his constituents would be the same. Brain, length, color of hair, language, way of talk, size of his lips, skin tone, gait, etc. All of these are already predisposed and determined in the chromosome.

The planet during then was rich, so to say. High quantity of O2 as compared to now, food was plentiful. Vegetation was lush, aquatic life was lush. The environmental factors present then faciliated a necessity for biotic organisms to grow in size.

The way God, in His brilliance, designed things--is through a complementary system. There is a cause for evolutionary processes (per se antibody development through viral activity), so too, is there a reason why Herbivory species in the primordial epoch grew in such large size: Due to the almost infinite green vegetation that faciliated that growth. Lush environment, and high rain yield. As the primary primary produces grow, so too will the primary consumers (herbivory). Now to maintain environmental homeostasis and stability, there must be a limiting reagent, right?

That is where the predatory/carnivorous species come into play. It inhibits the primary consumers from growing too much and disbalancing the rate of production. As that would lead to the collapse in the entire food chain. Carnivory species evolved into multiple aspects--each of whom having their own qualities--hunting and predating over different types of primary consumers (herbivores).

So, as natural evolution made it opportunistic for herbivory species go grow in size (both as a defense mechanism against predation as well as for energy metabolism), soo too did the predatory species evolve in order to hunt the same predatory species and continue as well as maintain the homeostasis of the ecological food web. Thereby maintaining the food chain.

It's all about evolution, guys. The processes then are similar to the processes in this present epoch. Molecular basis of genetics in the present that has revealed these processes--worked the same in the Jurrasic, Cretaceous and Primordial Epochs.

What makes man rather interesting is that Man is the only species in Mammalian-Kind that has nullified the ecological niche theory. As we have defied natural basis of the order of things. Where our numbers should have decreased due to the sustainability problems--we have overcome that. By mass-agricultural revolution, by poultry farm, by domestication of resource-rich animals: beef, chicken, pigs, sheep, turkey, etc, fish, etc.

The viruses and bacteria that are prevalent in the natural environment have evolved through the eons as a way to limit the numbers of population species--nature's way of checking one population from ever getting too numerous and disbalancing the order of things. A preventative step, naturally, to prevent the collapse of an entire food web.

That, man has already defeated. Man, through his shear brilliance and mastery of molecular genetics, Medicine, and Atomic Science--has guaranteed his ability to even check evolutionary processes--or find a way to even reverse it. (genetic therapy, through use of PCR, Molecular Cloning, Microassay analysis, Molecular scissors).

It is amazing how Man, has in a way conquored and 'understood' said processes that has been in constancy in nature for EONS.

Within only 100 some years time, Mankind has begun to understand said processes and develop techniques to address said situation.

Good Afternoon Ms. Priscilla,

Things aren't too bad over here, Ma'am. Just tough times, really tough times. Economy is really down in the dumps right now. But am sure and like yourself, know that we, The American People, will get through this situation.

America has suffered many attacks, and depressions before. Many setbacks, all of which we as a People and as Great Nation, have weathered through.

I still have much hope for this new Administration.

Economies go through a cyclic path. Sometimes we have good days, sometimes bad days. We are in one of those 'bad' days right now. But am sure there are better times ahead.

God Bless all of Us. God Bless the United States of America and the American People.

Ms. Priscilla, how are you doing? How are things over there in Bohol, Philippines?
How are your kids and family over there? Give them my warmest regards. Wishing you the best, Ma'am.

Mr. Ferniz brings up a very valid point.

Every species of animal and even plants induce and inhibit/repress a sense of interspecies competition. As even an Evergreen tree will emit allelopathy to repress growth of competitive species from advancing in the same food/nutrient source.

As the mammalian, avian, reptilian and amphibian species in this present epoch compete against each other for the same/given resource--it holds the same for the biotic species of say during the Jurrasic, Cretaceous, Primordial epochs.

If we tried resurrecting  a large predatory species like say--Tyrannosaurus Rex--or a large herbivory species like Diplosaurus or Bronchiosaurus; we would have to ask ourselves, "What would they eat?" And, "Who would they compete with?"

Herbivore species in the Donotopic epoch were large because of the increased O2 concentration in the planet, soil was rich, rain was plenteous, the environment--the planet, more like it made it more opportune for biotic species to grow large. Same thing applied for the carnivory species. Even aquatic species--crustacean were large in comparison to today's cousins. Bronchiosaurus were large because of the plentiful green vegetation to support their organismal need for ATP/ADP energy. For continual glyconeogenesis, glycogenolysis, their citric acid cycle. And the carnivory species such as T-REX, Raptorian species, were plentiful due to the high resource presence of the herbivory species. But their world ended, eons ago. Their entire world was wiped out. And it was the miniscule mammalian rat--form which all mammalian kind--would rise from--claimed the planet for its own self. Leading to the rise of primates--and eventually the rise of Human-Kind.

Dinosaurs would not fair well in this present times due to :
1. Human invasive characteristic
2. Increased toxic chemicals in the atmosphere--that have been linked to hormonal imbalance and genomic/chromosomal mutation in animals. (which would also apply to said dinosaurs if resurrected and placed in the wild)
3. Human Supremacy.

When it comes down to it, dinosaurs such as T-REX would require meat to fuel its energy needs. Man would be the preferred target due to man's evolutionary inhibitions:
1. flat razed teeth (no harm to other predatory species)
2. Coarse fibrin nails (offers no harm to enemies)
3. Rather slow speed
4. Small size
5. Numerical presence.

Naturally, there would be interspecies warefare between dinosaurs and Mankind. To which, Mankind would most probably prevail--due to His shear mastery in science and atomic concepts.

Best,
Lorenzo

Cebu was established as the Capital of Las Islas Filipinas and remained the capital until the conquest of Luzon by Legazpi's men.

It is amazing that despite Manila becoming the economic and political seat of power in the colonial days, Cebu, remains far more Hispanized than Imperial Manila.

Our Blessed Patron, is afterall named in the Honor of Cebu.

A friend of mine, Dr. Bensel, Ph.D, a professor in Environmental Science in Allegheny College was actually stationed in Sijiqor when he was in the Peace Corp several years back.

When I was a freshman in college, he found out, from my academic advisor, that I was Filipino from Bohol. And I met him in the student cafeteria. I was amazed to hear his Bisayan skills. To see and hear a white man speak so fluently in Bisaya, is amazing.

His daughter, Catherine Bensel, is a senior in Allegheny College--also did a study abroad exchange program to Oxford University last year.

Small world.

Na annoyed baya ako last semester.

During the graduation of the 2010 batch from basic sciences, my friend, Jasmine, who is Filipina, introduced me and my friend Job to her mother. I did the cordial mano po and offered my greetings. Jasmine's mom, being from Manila, conversed with us in Tagalog. And she talked to my friend Job, who is from Lucena in Luzon. Now of course I can follow Tagalog, but my skill in speaking the language is rather limited (as I grew up speaking English and Bisaya).

So when Jasmine's mom asked where I was from, I told her "Taga Bohol, po." She then said, "Talaga ba? Intindihan mo ba Tagalog o Bisaya?"

I answered her, "Bisaya, po. Dahil hindi ko mashado yung Tagalog po"

She joked, "Oh you're not Filipino if you can't speak Tagalog."

I just smiled at hearing that. I told her in English, "I am Filipino. I'm a Filipino who speaks Bisaya."

She just smiled back.

How pretentious of some individuals to declare one being 'Un-Filipino' simply because we are unable/limited in Tagalog.

In actuality, Bisayans are more Filipino--considering Bisayans constitute the majority of the entire Filipino population.

I was wondering if other Fil-Ams or other Filipinos had similar experiences.

General Topic / Why Isn't Bisaya The National Language?
February 27, 2009, 09:21:40 AM
The majority of Filipinos are Bisaya. The Central Visayas and Mindanao are Bisaya-speakers. The majority of the Philippine population speaks Bisaya or a variant form. Yet the national tongue, 'Pilipino' is nothing but Tagalog. And Tagalog speakers are a minority in the population.

Cebuano-Bisaya should be the national language. And Cebu should be the National Capital.

It makes sense, as it is in the central region.

What do you think?

If they resurrected dinosaurs, ah id love to just watch and touch my favorite:

Velociraptor.

Probably the most intelligent of the jurrasic and cretaceus dinosaurs.
Actually, their descendents are the Hawks and Falcons.

lol, too many humans have thick skull to have transparency. ngek!
:P

interesting baya ni, Bem.

Would love to read what causes this transparency--to make a fish's epithelial tissue ascertain a degree of clarity. No doubt this is an evolutionary process.

I can't help asking if this is a autosomal dominant or an autosomal recessive effect. Is it caused by dominant homozygosity or recessive homozygosity.

Mo look ko into this later.
(maybe during post-exams)

Happiness is when you study for hours--and finally understand a really hard concept.
And when you are asked to explain it in review session--and get thanks from people for helping them understand that same concept.

Happiness is knowing that you helped someone in the process--and at the same time learn/solidify your own knowledge.

Win/Win scenario.  :)

This is amazing. Am sure if they use PCR/Microarray analysis, they can isolate the area in the operon of  that fish that causes transparency. Perhaps even utilize that in genetic therapy or for human use/academic use/military use.

Nice thread, Ms. K.

Quit quarreling with God! Agree with him and you will have peace at last! His favor will surround you if you will only admit that you were wrong. Job 22:21 (LB)

We should be more like Prophet Job when in dealing with dire situations.

There is a saying that correlates with Job's predicament(s):

Happy moments? Praise God

Difficult moments? Seek God

Quiet moments? Worship God

Painful moments? Trust God

Every moment? Thank God

Always,
