that song 'greatest love of all' makes me cry.

Because it reminded me when mommy was in the 'states in '90 and my sister and I were still in Philippines.

And daddy was still in Saudi as an engineer.

But in one year, all of us were re-united again in the 'states.

Man, i remember my little sister would sleep with my mommy's dastir on her hand.

Interesting historical tid-bit.
Cebu is known for its 'Spanish Guitars'

The historical reason for this is due to the heavy presence of Spanish performers that came to Cebu in the 18th-19th centuries; as the city had heavy Spanish presence. And even to this day.

Que eres muy Hispanismo!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PtQkyMbDbc

Note, that many and most Filipino kundiman folk songs have such tunes. Spanish tunes.

When the Americans first arrived in the Philippines in the late 19th century, many of them were surprised: as the environment was similar to that of Mexico (note that America had many military ventures into Mexico in the 19th century {Mexican American War/ Pancho Escapade etc})

Fact: Most if not all Filipinos spoke, and read Castillian Spanish by the time of the 19th century. The Lingua Franca of the day was Spanish. The way the Tagalog and the Bisaya communicated with each other was through Castillian Spanish. The language of business was Spanish. The language of the military, government, juidicial, the language of the Church was Spanish. The Philippines reached a pinnacle of Hispanization in that epoch. Most of the politicians and revolutionista leaders were themselves either half Spaniards or part Spanish.

The famous Jose P. Rizal, was a Spanish Mestizo. His mother being part Spanish and his father a Chinese-Filipino merchant.

The man by the name of Andres Bonifacio, was also another Spanish mestizo.

The great writer, Marcelo Del Pilar, a great Filipino Apologist and pro-independence writer in La Solidaridad in Spain, was also of Spanish decent.

To the amazement of the Americans, when they arrived in Spanish Philippines, was the fact that the Philippines was more 'Latin' and or 'Spanish' than it was Asian.

lol.

Half a Millenia of Spanish amalgamation and cultural imprinting can do that to you. :P
#40311
Mao jud, 'te Ging.

Even if phenotype does not show it, the genotype is undeniable. The Spaniards mixed with the Filipinos in the islands, either they were priests, conquistadores, merchants etc. They mixed, nonetheless.

Just think--when they first arrived to the Philippines in 1521 and colonized it, beginning in 1565--the population of the Filipinos in the islands numbered no more than 500,000.

By the time of the Revolution in late 19th century--the population of Spain's Royal Colony in the Philippines numbered at 8 Million~.

The Spanish-Manila Galleon Trade with Nueva Espana guaranteed that mixing and introduction and constancy of flow. The Royal Port city of Cebu, for an example, was a hive for European Spaniards. Villas were built in Cebu for vacationing Spaniards, and many poor Spanish men and women made the Philippines their home. Marrying into the local culture and people.

Impossible kaayo to deny our Spanish roots, when it is just so evident.

 Mr. Ferniz,

There are only few scientists around the world who are active in cold fusion research. Am sure there were 'pay offs' from oil companies; as it is a threat to their lucrative business.

Yes Manay Tess,

Deuterium is a necessary component for nuclear power plants. Inasmuch as nuclear power can be used for military defense, nuclear power plants also use deuterium to fuel the system.

Nuclear power is a renewable resource. If properly maintained, can provide limitless energy.
The two energy resources of the future are: 1) Nuclear Power and 2) Hydrogen Fuel Cells.

The Philippines is blessed with natural resources. It is the duty of the Filipinos to defend it. And extract it. ;D

By virtue of economics and trade, the United States will be one of the largest consumers of said energy source, if ever it is extracted.

Just a China enjoys hundreds of Billions of Dollars worth of American investment, so, too, will the Philippines.
#40337
The Marianas Trench is gold mine; if what Mr. Ferniz says is true, then that would make the Philippines  a potential energy supplier of the future.

This would revolutionize the Republic, the very same way when the Arabs of Saudi Arabia were propelled to success and economic fame when Oil was discovered in their desert plains.

haha, gahapon may lami kaayo. Ning adto mi sa Kralen Cave near the beach. A big group of my medical batchmates had a bonfire in a cave above the sea.

Those of us there were: Job, Myself, Shalabh, Sidrah, Tareek, Jason, Quan, Alex, and Thiru. We brought taco chips and 2 gallons of water with us. We were there from 9pm till 1am man.

It was just so beautiful. In the dark, we had a bonfire going inside a cave and the ocean was at our view. Job brought his guitar, so we both sang different kinds of songs. Christian-Liturgy songs, to classic pop songs like, "eternal flame, maroon 5's 'she will be loved', how to save a life, apologize, wonderful tonight, Don't stop believing etc etc"

Amazing last night.

We could see the stars out.

Truly one of the most memorable experience I've had in med school.

I'll remember that moment 20-30 years from now. :) Definitely.

She ignored him

Yet she started again to throw

lol, last night was 'interesting'.

I left my apartment around 9 pmish? And I was at Sid's pre-dance party. till like 12:30 my time. Had some shots, danced a bit, and the girls ended up perming my hair hahahaha.

I acquiesced to their demands. They wanted to straighten my hair kono. hahahaha. Jonna, Laura, Sidrah, Pyush and Deena couldn't believe how my curly hair would not give. puahaha. Palamuut kaayo kai my medical lab partner--si Job, drank a little too much.

It was hilarious, the girls were writing on his face. (thank god it was erasable marker tho, ) lingaw lingaw kaayo.

And yes, Ms. Chahill was there too. ;)

Fun times. We all deserved it, especially after our Midterms.

Pare,
My sister trekked all over Greece: including Athens,  Thesoloniki, Thassos, Lesbos as well as present day Sparta and Thebes. She has so much more pictures lol.

What was interesting is that a mutual friend of ours, who studied in Allegheny College (my alma mater and my sister's soon-to-be alma mater; both of my sister and I are/were Allegheny College Trustees Scholars-Honors Scholars in Allegheny) owns a family farm in the island of Lesbos. And his family gave the collegiate contingent a tour around the family farm, exchanged rather interesting stories etc.

I can't recount all the experiences my younger sister had in Greece, but I can tell you that I was sucked into the descriptions. It was too amazing. We thank our father for such a priviledge and supporting us in college and in our study-abroad exchange programs. My father believes in global exchange; as he himself, back in the 1970s was part of the All-Filipino Boy Scout Jamboree to Japan.

Global exchange, and Worldly-Encouters--mao na iyang gi instill namo.

Pare, perhaps we can meet up in Spain someday.

Barcelona, Madrid, Burgos, Castille are just some areas that I'd love to visit.

Getting that acceptance letter to med school--after investing so many hours in the MCAT reviews, and 4 years of pre-med biology & history studies in undergraduate college.

It is a feeling of complete exhilaration. The icing on top of the cake, so to say.

Happy ko kaayo adto. Jaw dropping jud.

Dear, Ms. Chahill,

Thank you for that letter you wrote to me. lol.

I hope the coffee we got last time wasn't too bad.

And about the 'notes' incident. Like I said, anytime you need my notes, you can have it.

Smile more often, please, because your smile makes my heart jump with joy.

Your Friend,
Bran Lorenzo
