Charles Martinet (Mario)
Martinet is best known as Mario -- a voice he’s been handling since the mid-1990s -- but his contributions to the Nintendo world don't stop there. He's also the voice of Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Toadsworth, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Wondering what Mario sounded like before Martinet landed the role? Find a copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 to hear a much deeper, raspier version of the portly plumber. (Photo credit: Nintendo)

The long-awaited "Xiamen Disneyland" - Fantawild Theme Park is scheduled to officially open on 28th April this year, 3 days before May Day (Labor Day).

With an area of 400,000 square metres, the Xiamen Fantawild Theme Park is located at Tong'an New Town in Tong’an Districts and made up of 27 theme project areas, boasting an investment of RMB2.5 billion.

The world-class large-scale high-tech theme park which integrates modern technology, science-fiction, myths and legends and history and culture, is seeking to live up to the high expectations people have for Fujian's largest cultural theme park. It is expected to receive 6 million visitors and rake in RMB2.5 billion in tourism revenue annually upon its opening, and further boost the development of the culture industry and tourism industry in Xiamen, especially in the Haixi Zone.

The theme park will charge visitors RMB200 per person for adults under a pay once admission model. After paying the fee, visitors are entitled to use almost all of the recreational facilities in the park including the roller coasters and carousel.

Meanwhile, 8 bus routes to the Fantawild Theme Park will be launched starting from 28th April, covering almost all districts of the city.

Opening hours: 09:30~17:30 (Monday-Friday) / 09:00~18:00 (on weekends)

A Zhengzhou-Xiamen flight landed safely at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport on Sunday night after a collision with a bird while it was descending.

A Shandong Airlines flight CA4766 from Zhengzhou to Xiamen apparently struck a bird as it was descending into Xiamen. There were no injuries reported, according to the Haixi Morning News.

A photo taken by a passenger onboard the plane showed that the collision left a small dent on the plane’s right engine cover. The passenger said he saw the engine cover dotted with the bird’s blood.

Shandong Airlines confirmed the bird strike incident later and praised their crew for handling it calmly. The airline said the plane landed successfully, and that their mechanics have examined and repaired the plane.

Bird strike incidents are more common in Spring and Autumn when there are a lot of birds migrating through the sky, the airline said, and their crew have gained much experience in dealing with such incidents.

Bird collisions with airplanes can be dangerous when they damage engines, the windshield, and certain other parts of the plane, experts warned.

2013 Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Race to be held on May 25th-26th in Xiamen

Xiamen is now gearing up to stage the 2013 Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Race on 25th May, which is scheduled to be held in Jimei Dragon Pool in the city to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the school and promote friendly relationships across the Straits.

According to the organizing committee, a total of 80 teams, which includes 37 teams from Xiamen, 15 teams from Taiwan, 2 teams from Hong Kong, and 1 teams from Macao, will compete in the dragon boat race this year.

The participants will be divided into 8 groups: Social Men’s Group, Social Women’s Group, University Men’s Group, University Women’s Group, Men’s Group of Middle School & Technical High School Students, Women’s Group of Middle School & Technical High School Students, Female Teachers’ Group, and Male Teachers’ Group.
The dragon boat race in Jimei dates back to half a century ago. It is an important sports event organized by the General Administration of Sports of China.

Jimei is also the hometown of Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, the late Chinese philanthropist and a celebrated leader of overseas Chinese, who devoted himself entirely to the cause of education. A lot of educational institutions started by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, including Jimei Kindergarten, Jimei Primary School and Jimei Middle School, are located here.

The heartbroken pup licked his mate's head and tried to hug her with his front paws. The butchers swore he saw tears.

"He stayed beside her the whole day, keeping licking her and pushing her, trying to wake her up. It's very touching."

"Then he pushed her with his head, and licked her face," he told the Mail. "I even saw tears."
