Some of them naa sa Bohol Museum, the rest gipadala sa Butuan ug sa National museum sa Manila. Too bad the caves at Lamanoc Point were not cordoned and vandals have gone in and out with little knowledge of what they have desecrated.

Even Mansasa in Tagbilaran should be given the same accord unta, di ba?

Murag dili.

I know the guy and he certainly would have won, easily had he gotten hold of such amount to fund his election.

Funding a former governor does not need that much money. especially when he has got the track record to cite.

Malmis wouldnt risk that much too, and so would Marlito, they are businessmen you see.

Calle,

The behind the church in Loon is a flight of stone steps, 165 in all and the longest in BOhol. It is called Inang-angan, and is made to connect the lower town (Napo) to the upper town (Sawang).

Napo, from the word Na Pulo (nahimong isla) because it is practically separated from the town due to its downhill position used to be the center for literature in Bohol,a nd if i am not mistaken, it has shared with Camayaan Loboc as the two places which have the longest running community theater presentations in Bohol since prewar.

Towns with similar but shorter Spanish stone steps are Loay, Maribojoc and Tubigon, pero sa tubigon, naas atubangan ang steps.

Maribojoc - Bohol / Punta Cruz
February 02, 2009, 06:43:19 PM
Punta Cruz now a crux
to histo-heritage tour

A world-class musical drama by a community theater rendered at the foot of the centuries old watchtower is the latest in culture and history pedagogy now making a hit in Bohol.

Here, a community theater tells the story in a brilliant weaving of music and dance.

The artistic cultural presentation retells the infamous pangayaw raids of the moro Tirones, one that would force the people to fortify for themselves and build a stone watchtower for their defense and organize an armada of boat riding men to meet the raiders and engage them in battle at sea.

Pangayaw is a traditional pillaging of moro tribes in the region for gold, food and slaves to be sold to rich sultans in Mindanao in the 17th century.

Performed by local Cultural Collective at the foot of the centuries old watchtower, the Castillo del San Vicente Eco-Heritage Tour officially opened with much fanfare Thursday, December 18 at the Punta Cruz Complex in Maribojoc.

Mayor Leoncio Evasco, in an interview before the musical and artistic rendition of the tour’s main highlight aired his elation over the outcome of their effort to help the community.

Aided by a funding agency partner and assisted by an NGO, the government and contacted artists, the mayor said the town has developed livelihood and enterprise as well as harnessed young talents in the area.

Along with Bohol Alliance of Non-Government Organizations in a project called Building Livelihood Enterprise in Support for Sustainable Eco-Tourism (BLESSED) in Maribojoc, the local government has also effectively reclaimed the town landmark from it’s an image as just one of the many heritage towers here, but as a root of local history and culture becoming a major crux of tourism activities.

“Along the process, the Punta Cruz Cultural Collective, a community theater comprised by 21 artists who went through the Basic Integrated Theater Arts Workshop was established” creative and artistic consultant Lutgardo Labad said.

“The soft launching turned out to be a major event which opened eyes to the historical realities that shaped the local culture and tradition,” admits a Maribojoc local artist who witnessed the 30 minute artistic performance.

Performed at the foot of the 17th century watchtower venerated to San Vicente Ferrer, the brilliant dramatization of historic moro raids intricately weaves the past with the present, reinstating the towering role of the heritage structure in the lives of Maribocjanons, shared a retired teacher too awed by the performance.

Trained local artists from barangays Punta Cruz, Guiwanon, Lagtangon and Bood all of Maribojoc staged the dramatization using classic pangalay (southern temple worship dance) choreography, indigenous instrumentation and the age-old chanted narration to thread the entire story line.

At the opening rites, PACAP Bohol project coordinator May Blanco hailed the town for the integration of culture, empowerment, conservation and history to develop economic and livelihood opportunities for communities.

She pointed out that several development plans overlook the crucial culture and environment, but now Maribojoc.

The Castillo del San Vicente Eco-heritage Tour is unlike your other stops that takes about 15 minutes.

This is may be an hour-long tour featuring local guides, cultural presentations, souvenir item shopping and the soon to open marine protected area guided tours, Fritzie Mae Zamora tells.

Zamora coordinates Bangon tourism assisted events and also helps communities develop tourism support products.

The tour at the Punta Cruz complex also feature banana chip pasalubongs, native souvenir items crafted by nearby communities and next year also adds a guided marine protected area tours, she added.

Danao - Bohol / Danao Extreme Adventures

LEVEL UP IN DANAO

WANNA do level up?
If you think only on online games can you go level up, take another look.

Here however, level up is not on those multi-tiered internet on-line games.

Far from the thrill of getting absorbed in the perpetual dusk of internet cafes and the muted click of computer keypads is a world for the taking; wild, needing control and truly exhilarating. This is the new kind of level up Danao offers.

Level up here is not on keypads or smooth shifting toggles. Level up here definitely needs more than that.

Tie shoelaces a bit tight. You would need it to get as comfy as if you are barefoot. Why?
Because level up here is root-climbing, cliff-scaling, rock wall climbing, simply bouldering, kayaking, river trekking or zip-lining.

Your pick. A 60 feet high limestone cliff with a face brittle in summer yet soggy wet with humidity and forest moisture on most times of year.

You’ll have a safety harness, because a slip might just get you plunging to the gurgling waters of the Wahig. That is for amateurs.

For professionals, skipping the safety harness routine is a dare.

LEVEL UP: ROOT CLIMBING

Before that root climbing routine, wade in hip deep or shoulder high river. Your local guide would caution you to follow his steps though.

The relatively simple part is slipping on the safety harness.

Then, harder, you clamber up the intricate weave of roots, your sneakers dripping wet, and toe-holds are tricky.

The hardest: make sure you’ll have three contact points at all times: two feet and one hand or two hands and a feet. Hands over the head. Tight grip. Tug on to the root making sure it wont give way when your full load is on it.

The plan is simple. Climb up the cliff; that’s 60 foot climb using the entangling of roots from that formidable family of ficus (balite).

Note, this is root climbing, not swimming, so keep the focus and don’t ever let go.

WAY DOWN: RAPPELLING

Before the adrenaline could settle down from that mad clamber, now you go down the other way, by ropes.

The same three contact points get used as you snap yourself on to a lifeline on your rappel down.

From an overhanging branch where the lines are hitched, grab the line with your left hand, and your
right holds on to the other line near your butts, to effectively control your rate of descent.

As you hang suspended from that overhang, dangle, allow the wind to calm you down, and then in one heave, slowly loosen your grips, simultaneously kicking off the cliff face when the pendulum gets you there.

SMOOTHER KAYAKING AND RUBBER TUBING

Danao also offers shooting the rapids with plastic and colorful kayaks.

But you need to put on life vests and hard hats. Currents along Wahig River can be tricky and you may need to navigate through massive boulders so a head-gear is in order; for your safety.

For the less adventurous, taking the rubber tubes is the thing for you. The ride is about five minutes long or if the water is alright, you can take a longer one, from the upper tributary before the bridge.

Oh, yes, the trip is smooth, unlike the one that would tire you out when you go river trekking.

The scenery is breathtaking, and the experience is definitely worth more than a page in your diaries.

SPELUNKING: VENTURE INTO THE BOWELS OF THE EARTH

Danao caves also have exactly the lure adventurous people would die for.

Ka Mira, a cave beneath the tourist accommodation center takes you to into a 500-meter walk, wade and crawl. Get into the historic caves that have become the favorite hiding places of local revolutionaries and re-trace their escape routes under noses of pursuing Spanish guardia civiles.

The caves still sport health stalactites and stalagmites, the stone formations are astonishingly perfect and the water that runs through the caves are crystal clear.

If you get lucky, you may spot albino crabs, local cave tour guide would tell you.

Careful though that you do not get into the cave on rainy seasons, the water can rise and you could get trapped for hours. The water marks at the side of the caves can tell that the waster can fills some small passages, especially the portions when you would have to crawl to get through.

You can wedge yourself however in vertical crevices, but you must have the expensive Petzl head gear and the equally costly Black diamond halogen headlamps.

The items however are standard issues for tourists.

GO GETTING THE HIGH

Extreme experience in Danao also gets on a different kind of high.

A zipline which you need to experience if you are that sure about getting a kick is definitely the thing to do

The line is stretched across Wahig river. It is not as long and scary as the one that would be available next month, but people with less bladder control may have to let go. I mean, adult diapers are needed.

The primary goat is to traverse the river while you are suspended on safety harness as you feel the air wheezing in your face when you slide to the other end.

Next month, if they hit it without a snitch, one of the country’s longest zipline would be available.

One of the longest means 550 meters spanned across the cliffs of Danao. You would have to go the way in too, if you have successfully taken the way out. That would be 1,100 meters of slide. But that is not mean.

What is mean is that you would have to slide and when you are off the ground, you would be suspended at least a thousand meters above the forests, rivers and caves of historic Danao.

Cool enough that the people would call this the “Suislide”

For more information about EAT Danao, call Loinda Saluan a the Municipal Tourism Officer 0917 302 1701 or Lumen Gonzaga at 0920 528 0155 or Mayor Thomas Louis Gonzaga at 507-3106 local 187. (KABOG)

Tubigon, Bohol / Jobs Kiosk
February 02, 2009, 06:39:24 PM
Tubigon gets Bohol’s
2nd GMA jobs kiosk

TUBIGON Mayor Luna Piezas succeeds in pulling up from his bag of tricks a jobs kiosk, the second in Bohol and one he “muscled” in his effort to make another pitch at generating jobs and denting on poverty in northern Bohol.

Recent reports revealed that Piezas, who then was a top level executive at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has to rub elbows with the secretary to get for Bohol its second web-based Greater Modular Access (GMA) Jobs Center.

Bohol’s first GMA Jobs kiosk was in Tagbilaran and is now housed at Capitol’s Bohol Employment and Placement Office while the upcoming kiosk would be temporarily at the Public Employment and Placement Office 2nd floor of the town hall.

This would be re-located however at a more accessible place possibly beside Julies Bakeshop, says Tubigon information officer Ligaya Castillo in a phone interview.

The move complements the country’s stepping up its search for new job opportunities here and abroad for Filipino workers to mitigate the impact of the global economic meltdown on the country’s workforce.

DOLE Secretary Marianito D. Roque, during the GMA jobs center launching said its is a vital step in ensuring local and employment opportunities for its people into the future.

The job centers of kiosks were designed fro deployment in key areas nationwide where heavy human traffic is, to increase access to job vacancies and relevant jobs information.

In it, GMA Jobs Center offers the country's first unified and synchronized, state-of-the-art system which incorporates the DOLE's time-tested Phil-Jobnet job search facility to reach out to a much greater client base with free, relevant jobs and skills information.

According to a press material from the DOLE, the kiosks will provide free job search, job skills matching services, skills registration and other pertinent services to a job seeker.

It also makes available to employers online registration, job postings for free, search for job applicants, and list of applicants with contact information.

The GMA Jobs Center is housed in a modern and convenient, touch screen and web-enabled, ATM-like machine capable of displaying information on employment opportunities and services for both would-be local and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

It is a welcome development here in this northern part of Bohol, where most job seekers need to go to Tagbilaran or Cebu to get search for jobs, Castillo reiterates.

The local government of Tubigon, through the local leaders assure their people faster and more the immediate employment for their jobless and out-of-school youth under different emergency livelihood employment programs, reports said.

Local employment opportunities include jobs in government projects as the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, irrigation systems, school buildings and hospitals as well as job openings for Filipinos workers in “new job markets abroad.”

Danao - Bohol / Danao Plans For A Canyon Swing
February 02, 2009, 06:37:38 PM
Danao puts up
canyon swing

YOU think the country’s longest and highest zipline is a push-over? Wait until Danao could put up the dreaded canyon swing!

And for those who has gooseflesh over the zipline, perhaps the chair lift gets you the thrill and safety you want to be assured.

And if the canyon swing is completed, Danao raises the Pinoy fear factor several notches higher or lower with a promise of a pendulum swing not lesser than New Zealand’s 105 meter with 60 meter freefall.

In fact, Danao Mayor Thomas Louis Gonzaga and Vice Mayor Jose Cepedoza have been closely keeping an eye on the local surveying team so they could judiciously decide which platform can deliver the most exhilarating swing of all, says tourism officer Loinda Corotico Saluan.

Danao, a town 72 kilometers away from Tagbilaran is struggling to beat its own economic problems by pushing for extreme eco-and educational adventure tourism, one which is a stand-out for outdoor explorers.

In a visit to Danao last weekend, the media missed Mayor Gonzaga by only a few minutes. Hours later, Vice Mayor Cepedoza took the supervision of the geodetic survey team put up by the local assessors office.

Saluan, who also doubles as the town’s information officer said the canyon swing would be their next aim as she pointed to a long queue of local and foreign tourists nervously fixing their head gears. The headgear is a standard measure before one is allowed to do the strapping of body harnesses in the town’s newly opened “suislide”.

The suislide, Danao’s best extreme adventure experience as yet is a 550 meters zipline where tourists slide for their life while suspended up in a canyon of about 250 to 300 meters over the gurgling Wahig River and its rocky beds.

The slide, which takes about 45 to a minute depending on the weight is gravity controlled and has to be taken twice; another one on the way back, has been rated a high thriller by extreme adventurists.

But upping the fear scare factor, Danao wants the scariest: canyon swing complete with free-falls, of course following the standards of safety in extreme sports, Saluan said.

According to a website by Shootover Canyon Swing in Queensland New Zealand, a canyon swing includes jumping off a platform while fitted to a chair or body harness and attached to jump ropes. The configuration is such that your hands and feet are free from entanglements while you do jump combinations. Gravity does the rest.

Of course, this sports activity is not for the weak-hearted, advised an extreme outdoor enthusiast who asked not to be named.

He however said for those who have the nerves for the canyon swing and love the thrill of canyon rushing in, a neat extra set of underpants is quite in order. (rachiu/PIA)

the angling is undeniably Chronicle.

But i recalled there was even a time the blue card was suspended too, because City Hall, and it should include the opposition councilors, was not as clear in determining who should be given the privilege.

Was there any reason that the City Hall has to stop the payments? Or has City hall really allowed patients to avail of the services without the appropriate cash back up? Or was the money plainly spent somewhere else?

Has the Chronicle delved on this? Too bad.

the shot is good.

the framing however can be improved.

Ever herad about the law of thirds? Photographers also say that a composition, to attin the formal balance may have to be composed (framed) in a way that the entire viewfinder is arbitrarilly divided into three horizontal and three verical lines. Here, your points of interest may be located on the lower horizontal or upper horizontal lines (also horizons in landscapes) while the vertical lines would have the accents?

LGU Philippines / Re: Heavenly visions in Bohol churches
February 02, 2009, 12:08:57 PM
My point is that the Boholano painters are doing their best in putting up their ideas on ceilings that could not be restored in the same manner as Ray Francia and Canuto Avila did the originals in tin sheets (which have coroded in time)

Both local artists i mentioned are hiding from the public in the context of noble artists who still do not want the publicity many "artists" would  kill for.

I would want to believe that they would have wanted to restore the Francias and Avilas in the style they were done but artists would leave a unique signature, one local artists may not be able to copy.

With St. Michael church partly devastated by an earthquake in the late 80's and the ceilings crumpled by the incident, it may be less hassle if they would come up with their interpretation instead.

What comes out is indeed a new brand of art in Bohol and that goes to the credict of this Boholano artists who should get a niche in the national galleries.
#446
we're also scheduling catered candle-lit dinner and concerts with the Loboc children's Choir or Loboc Children's Alumni Choir, (which ever is available) at the Bishop Gorordo Sala at the Dauis Convent.

Dauis convent staff has been trained in a Manila 5 star hotel and you could go for fine dining (perhaps the only one in Bohol). Sparkling crystal, silver, choral music and Boholano Food presented in atractive servings.

But this is inclusive in a Bohol Arts Appreciation tour, a tour package developed by the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.

Bohol Directory / Re: Awit sa Bohol
February 02, 2009, 11:21:49 AM
Disecting the Bohol Hymn, a song adult Boholanos should have memorized by heart would perhaps give us an idea of how we would like, as a people to prioritize our hierarchy of values.

This and still some of the realizations i got from a re-thinking about the lyrics of the song.

In summary, the song is basically an open statement (and with the lyrics) of how BOholanos consider the environment, the culture and its heritage as primary over all other things.

Responding appropriately to this call for environment conservation, culture and heritage protection and preservation as a subliminal action for the land we love is perhaps the main reason why we have grown economically in the last decade.

We will just have to pray we can sustain all these efforts by constantly comparing what we have done to the dream we want to bequeath to our kids.

Bohol Directory / Re: Hundreds of Bohol Tarsiers Gone?
February 02, 2009, 11:13:33 AM
One thing rare about the tarsius syrichta is that tehy are endemic to the greater mindanao faunal region.

The region is characteristic of the island provinces of BOhol, Samar Leyte and mainland Mindanao to Borneo.

The land bridges which theoritically connected the country to Indonsesia may have something to do with this.

Apart from that, they are extremely territorial, one that even forces parent tarsiers to kill their young should they find the babies a threat and competition for food in their appointed territories.

A study has shown that a femal tarsier, when "placed" too far away from her favorite territory simply died, possibly by holding its breath. Suicidal is one characteristic of these marsupials.

According to research, stress, dislocation and pysical trauma can immediately cause a tarsier death.

Another big cause is the intrusion of human activity into their ranges have driven them farther to the thicker forests where insects may not be that numerous as in secondary growth forests, and thus depriving the tarsier of .07 pounds of insect food per night hunt.

Cats. Yes, feral cats often hunt for tarsier which present itself as easy prey when they sleep during the day, them being nucturnal animals and sleep at the heights from a foot to to heights of easy reach by our feline pets.

Would sending tarsiers to regions like shared by greater Mindanao work? Perhaps. But owing to the fact that these animals which used to inhabit the places were forced to extinction or near it, the may may spring some doubts. However, we believe there is not harm in trying, especially when there is available fund to initiate research on this suggestion.

The Bohol hymn was composed by the late Justino "Ning" R. Romea of Napo, Loon, Bohol who later settled in Maribojoc with his wife Susana Miranda (also rom Napo) and family because they were able to acquire a property there.  Hilig man gud mamulinaw tong Tatay ni Nong Tining, si Leon Romea (drama director in Napo, like his son).  Didto siya sa Maribojoc nagpondo, likod sa simbahan. Eventually naka payag siya didto. Ang ubang mga igsoon ni Nong Tining nagpabilin sa Loon. The song was composed in 1970 or early '70s with English lyrics. Therefore, na una ang ininglis kay sa hinubad nga binisaya. Then Gov. Lino Chatto launched a binisaya-translation-of-the-song contest. Sa libro ni Apalisok, naa didtoy letter ni Nong Tining, mi react siya sa project sa governor. He could have translated it himself man gud. And I know he could do justice sa pag translate kay siya gud ang nakahibalo pag-ayo sa iyang gi sulat.  Tuod man, napadayon jud ang contest (won by Ma'am Ganade of Holy Spirit School), ug ang binisaya na ang nahibaw-an sa kadaghanan. Tungod kay managlahi man ang phrasing sa ininglis ug sa binisaya, expected jud nga naay ma "lost in translation".  Pananglit, the very beautiful line nga "caressed by the sun, bathed by the sea, and kissed by the cool breeze" nahimo na lang nga "dinasig sa kinaiyahan". Ang "night and day" nahimong "sa adlaw'g gabii, taknang tanan".

Romea also composed many school anthems (UB Hymn, BSAT Hymn, etc) and is best remembered for the love song "Ako Kang Paabuton" (kanunay masaypan nga "Buhi sa Kanunay"), the folk song "Sa Daplin sa Baybayon" as well as most of the songs featured in the annual ‘drama’ presentations in his native Napo for which he served as writer, director and musical arranger. Lately, I was surprised to listen to a downloaded version of "Ako Kang Paabuton" by Bayang Barrios.  Nananghid ba kaha ang nag record ana sa heirs ni Nong Tining?

Nong Tining was also a revered columnist of Bohol Chronicle. Up to this day, wala pay makatupong sa kanindot niyang mosulat og column, according to the current crop of journalists nga nakaabot pa niya.  In act, front page jud to iyang column, defying editing rules) kay daghan man mag-atang.

This thread is nice.

I cant stop but be reminded of a story i heard about another tribe in Mindanao: Ata.

Once daw, a group of Atas hitched a ride on a public utility bus. Since the conductor thought they would not pay, he sent all of them on top of the bus, amid the pile or merchandise.

After a while, the bus reached a checkpoint. The sergeant manning the checkpoint pointed to the Atas on top of the bus.

Sergeant: Hoy, kayo lahat, Baba.
Ata: Atami Sir
Sergeant: O bakit, Hakone! (ako ni)
Ata: o sige, baba na ta kay suko na sardine

The governor, who issued the order (during his weekly radio program) to the police provincial director may indeed be treading dangerous water when he did this.

You ask why?

Because this may be a trap of his own making.

He gets the police authority to stop a construction, he does not have the police authority to go lock horns with the rich guys at Eskaya, the owner of the house along Laya?

How the hell may he defend his attempt to restore Alona if he would be guarding his position as pro environmentalist this time?

I smell a conspiracy here.

Bohol also happens to have a nursery for endemic tree species and it is located in Batuan,at the Bohol Biodiversity Center.

InDanao, where the government and the privatesector put up the Assisted Natural Regeneration, you dio not even need to bring with you the seedlings. All we would do is clear a patch of  grass covered hill and leave young groths of natural species. Itell you there are quite a lot but obviuosly could not survive due to the choking grasses.

Waht we would rather bring  is P350 so we could all take the latest extreme outdoor experience in Bohol: a zipline that lets you cross at breakneck speed the span of 550 meters while you would be suspended between 200 to 300 meters above the mighty Wahig River.

It IS scary at a point you would blame yourself why you had to do it. Believe me.

And bring some set of underpants too. If you get my drift? hehehe

He constinued by saying "it is very unfortunate that you are using the newspaper... as a vehicle to peddle half truths, calculated to erode and destroy the people's faith and confidence in the judiciary.

Finally, he warned, "next time, be careful with your facts.

LTO Tagbilaran Chief Joel "Tata" Maloloy-on is a good friend of mine. we've known each other since his days at LTO cebu city and while he's still studying Law at UV. he's a good person and I can attest that. with regards to fixers, they can't easily be ignored because no matter what the concern agency is doing, they keep on coming. all gov't agencies not just LTO are aware about this and that's what their top priorities for now. the only thing that they wanted to ask from the public is to stop negotiating and doing business with these people. even if they approached you, all you need to do is ignore them. without customers, these fixers will just die a natural death and will go away unnoticed. who made them? it's the public who patronized their services. in cebu, fixers are slowly going away since the people are now starting to ignore them. other thing is to pay online or through bank. some government agencies are now accepting payments online or through banks. one particular example is NSO. paying online or through bank will always keep you away from fixers

precisely i wish the LTO could do a think like an SPA for people so the fixers can still have their day. Sans an SPA, the fixers' papers should not be entertained. That way, lawyers also get tgheir share while car owners or drivers (yes there are) who ask fixers to do "their thing" is finally given the right treatment. Of course they can pay and LTOP can have a heavenly reason to refuse fixers without the right papers.

Kon mailhan nila nga para kini sa pagpalambo sa kultura sa ilang lonsod, makadayeg sila. I think informations to the locals are missing here. Could you put yourself in their situation? To do this is not too late

I think the problem starts with the community being left out in the discussions.

Not Ms. Zobel's fault perhaps because the locals should do tehir share in explaining and really explaining the meat of the project. This obviously happened but it was not done right.

So its even the Parish Pastoral Council that spun the first line of evil talk, if my sources are right.

General Topic / Re: Why Tattoo Can Kill Your Loved One
January 26, 2009, 03:15:47 PM
I think the reason is fairly simple.

You get an ear piercing or a tattoo it would necessarilly include needle pricks, needles which may not be as sanitary or sterile if you get my drift.

An unsanitary needle could easilly cntaminate your blood.

Not that the hospital knows its contaminated. If they will run tests on a guy with piercings or tattoos, there is a bigger chance of getting a positive dirty blood.

And by the tests, the donor would pay.

He donates and he pays for a test, when its free donation, that is too bad for him.

So the hospital says its up to you, but yuo would pay for the tests. If you cant, then the hospital has reserved the right t refuse.

Its just that you need to know about this, and the hospital must tell you the real score.

Recently, there have been news about judges getting part of their allowances from Capitol and City Governments.

This has fairly been trumpeted by a local news network as an indication that the judges would hand in a decision that slants to the city government.

If you were a presiding judge who has earlier been reported as getting allowance money from  the City or Capitol, would you be biased?

If somebody sees your decision as indicative of your utang na loob, your name would surely be plastered and youd carry that brand all you life.

And its almost like the case would be for the city government as those who filed have been fairly summed by many as "the cantankerous kind here"

That is true and you know what?

I was privileged to have been with Irene Marcos in Bohol lately and when she saw the church, she exclaimed that it is quite similar to the church in Sarrat Ilocos where her sister Aimee chose as wedding venue.

The church in Sarrat is also dedicated to Santa Monica, and sports that same stone arch bridge from the convento to the church building.

All to make sure that the Spanish priest daw, does not have to go down to the level of the indios. Funny.

You were showing the Pueblo de Pamilacan, a high end resort operated by the owners of Eskaya, if am not mistaken.

It indeed is exorbitant.

For Boholanos however, there is a community based and operated tourist center just beside that old fort on the side of the island facing Baclayon.

They have very basic amenities, but i love the real feeling of sleeping in a payag with banig buli, the smell of burnt kerosene lamps, or rumbling waves and being in the middle of a fishing community with fishermen peddling their freshest catch right before your payag doorstep.

And they offer dolphin and whale watching tours too, for these are the real guys who were affected by the whale hunting ban.

try it sometime, call on nong sonnie or nang merry when there.

biggest in terms of barangays, because it has 67, but it bows out to Ubay which has a much bigger land area.

anyway, it is also a bit sad how the ceiling paintings in Loon are flaking and the restoration is not as perfect.

55,000 to 65,000 cubic meters of sand from the depths of Alona be sucked and restored to the beachfronts. All to extend the beachfronts by 20 meters.

because the officials who should be implementing the 20-meter access zones can not bulldoze the illegfal structures because these are owned by moneyed people.

So they are willing to compromise the environment.

That is how i simply see it.

Loon is indeed the queen of all Bohol Churches, not only because it has the biggest floor space but because it may earn the right to be called the only church in Bohol that was planned and done exactly according to plan.

The facade portrays the unmistakeable baroque architecture, one which gained prominence after the whole world realized a whole lot of their beliefs have been totally rafuted by science.

The graceful movement of the items in baroque art is eloquently showed in the vivid movements of the facade in Loon, one part advances while the columns and the designs depict that globl trend of beliefs.

the carvings at the altar would tell another story of the local artistry of the people.

Bohol Directory / Re: Hundreds of Bohol Tarsiers Gone?
January 22, 2009, 10:19:48 PM
It is just naive for local government officials to allow entrepreneurs to operate tarsier viewing establishments so that tourists can see these rare and endangered nucturnal animals even at day time.

One permit that DENR granted was for a tarsier breeding in captivity program, and mind you, not for endangering the tarsier's lives by making them available for day time tourists.

One tarsier stop even allows tourists to feed the tarsiers by putting in crickets on midribs and rubbing these insects on the nose of the sleeping marsupials.

This is not counting a tarsier stop that still allows tourists to handle the poor creatures.

Nobody really could tell how many tarsiers have died in these establishments. The operators say none. But by the abuse the tarsiers get, i wont be surprised if the turn-over is a dead tarsier a day.

And because Loboc saw that the tarsier establishments are racking in donations, they effected the tarsier toll fee so at least the town can get it all.

Accordingly, it was done in the guise of earning money so the LGU can put up tarsier protection funds.

In an area where the same LGU put in those gigantic lights to create a magical night cruise which has undeniably disturbed the tarsier feeding, the LGU still have the gall to tell that the P50 toll fee goes to tarsier protection?

Oh, come on, you can do better than that!

the latest development is that the LTFRB would not grant any tourist franchise to any van of the older models.

Only vans with 2006 are given franchise because they too are the ones that can comply with the DOT standards.

So ang mga Besta vans nga intawon surplus sa Subic, wala nay paglaum pa nga makakuhag tourist franchise.

Ang win win solution, older vans get a public transport Garage to Terminal Express (GT franchise). Which is not what tehd rivers love because going garage to terminal may need them travalling without any passenger from G to T.

I am not going to argue with you Mike on this guy, not because its true that he is 21.

What i am trying to raise is the fact that there are l lot, and i can name names here of older and supposedly much more brilliant leaders who get elected but unluckilly got the brains bigger than a pea.

And yes, vote buying.

Here, if you do not buy votes, even if your campaign manager is a Christ Crucified or Benedict in his full regalia, or you are a living Mother Theresa, trust me you could pray you'd get a hundred votes. Because honestly, i doubt it.

Choco Hills loses chance
to be new world wonder

ALL efforts to hoist the Chocolate Hills to the new seven-world wonders list vanished as the Zurich-based New7Wonders Foundation announced another Philippine entry instead as the country’s official entry to the search.

The announcement that the Chocolate Hills has been eliminated took Boholanos by surprise as efforts were indeed cast to get the iconic Bohol symbol past the country’s entries.

Local support has earlier organized to make a more emphatic impact on the global campaign to get Boholanos in other parts of the world vote until December 31, the deadline.

However, despite the attempts, several have aired apprehension that by sheer numbers alone in the online voting, Bohol would be totally out if countries with massive populations like China or India come out and vote.

Two weeks of tallying after the deadline, organizers have short-listed the entries to only about 40% of the original 441 nominees. The list also included only one entry per country, Swiss based organizers said.

Winning over Bohol and other national nominees is Puerto Princesa Subterranean National Park.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean National Park, or otherwise known as the Underground River of Palawan edged out other national favorites like Mayon Volcano in Albay, Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales and Hundred Islands in Alaminos Pangasinan, all later nominees.

Up for voting following the short-listing are 261 nominees where only 77 would be accepted to the next phase of voting come July 7 where only 77 nominees would be left.

From the 77, New7WorldWonders panel of experts, including a former United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organizations director general would choose 21 finalists.

From the 21 finalists, it would be 2 years before the new seven world wonders would be announced, organizers said.

The Underground River now stands shoulder to shoulder with other iconic sites as the Loch Ness in Scotland, Grand Canyon in the United States, the Black Forest in western Germany, Mount Fuji in Japan, The Amazon River in South America, the transnational Danube River in Europe, the Dead Sea in Israel, Australian Great barrier Reef, Iguazo Falls in Argentina, Mont Blanc in France Italy border, and the Niagara Falls in the US-Canadian border.

However, Tubattaha National Marine Park, itself being shared by the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia also came in as a multi-national nominee for the search.
