#39403

acetylene torch ang weapon of mass destruction nga gikinahanglan ani, bai hubs.  the downside:  klaro nga car theft bisag magmaskara pa ang thief.
#39404

terrible.  naluya akong tuhod nga nagbasa ani.  predators aside, nga angay panitan ug buhi, i blame the breakdown of the family unit here, followed by deviant customers and deviant cyber communities.  di ko kasabot nganong kun missing ang usa ka 13-year-old daughter ug usa ka gabii di tuwaron sa ginikanan ang kalibotan ug pinangita.

#39407

good luck, sir fd.  here are hopes that your virtual account becomes a real account.  too bad i'm always wary of "easy money" especially when one buys something with nothing.  please prove me wrong in the coming months...

Chameleons are another story:

Chameleons are widely regarded with unreasoning fear, especially in West Africa, where various beliefs associate the reptile with the Sun. In Dahomey, the chameleons are said to fetch fire from the Sun. In early Christianity, the chameleon was used to symbolize Satan who, like the chameleon, could change his appearance to deceive mankind. Other deep-rooted belief that persist are that chameleons are "nourished by the air," and hence do not eat. They do have huge lung sacks that, when fully expanded, become almost transparent. Nevertheless, chameleons do eat food.

The eyes of the chameleon are unique. The lids are fused over each eye ball, leaving only a small aperture, and each eye can see and move independently. Seen close-up, this random movement can be quite un-nerving. A belief arose as far back as the time of Pliny (1st Century AD) that a chameleon talisman restored sight to the blind.

Best known for its ability to change its skin color to blend with its background, the chameleon has been referred in Sufi (Pantheistic Muslim mysticism) parables relating to an inconsistent person. "So as the chameleon changes his skin, an unwise one changes the color of his being..." The thought is still believed among modern men.

Ang GINOO ay creator, justifier, judge of all things.

The Lord of All is Jesus Christ. So if we are strong and faithful in Christ. Why should we care about superstitious 'powers'?

Ang mga demonyo ma hadlok sa GINOO. :)

what are you doing getting off-tangent this time once more?  just because some of us tend to play safe with these so-called supertitions doesn't mean that we have stopped believing in god or that these superstitions are evil.  this isn't a one-or-the-other kind of thing.  otherwise, why don't we cross the street in pitch darkness because "motuo lang ta sa abilidad sa ginoo"?

is the u.s.'s observance of halloween or brazil's (and new orlean's) mardi gras against the power of god?  other cultures find these superstitious just as adherents of other religions take our sign of the cross as superstitious.

rice is showered on newlyweds right at the church door, a practice that isn't mentioned at all in the bible.  does this make one's faith in god any less?

mora bitaw ug mas daring ang mga lola ug gamit ug pearls for the simplest of occasions.  i think it's also because pearls are the safest and most subtle of jewelries in terms of matching them with clothes.  never gyod ta nga ma-over when it comes to pearls.  in truth, pearls are very feminine for all ages.  standard jewelry ni nga must-have kunohay ug mga baye, like the lbd (little black dress).

p.s. excepts perhaps for cufflinks and buttons, pearls are the only jewelry that don't fit men.  (a man with a pearl ring or pendant?  weird.)

lucky you your gift-giver insisted on pearls.

wa ko makatan-aw, tigs.  dia hinoon koy nabasahan, and i feel it's interesting for this thread.  (from Time Special Commemorative Issue, May 16, 2011, Asian Edition):

"This is a really exciting day for the unborn Hoosier children."

-Sue Swayze, legislative director of Indiana Right to Life, on the passage of a state bill that would defund Planned Parenthood; Republican Governor Mitch Daniels later announced he would sign it into law

notes:

1.  the term 'hoosier' refers to people in indiana as those from tagbilaran are called tagbilaranons or those from cogon are called cogonites.

2.  some highlights of the planned parenthood movement of the state of indiana:

1932 -Planned Parenthood of Indiana, Inc., originally the Indiana Birth Control League, was officially established
February 4.
1936 -Federal Comstock Laws, which prohibited publication and distribution of information about sex, sexuality,
contraception and human reproduction, lifted.
1942 -First year federal funding was used for family planning.
1978 -Abortion services begin in Merrillville.
1991 -Abortion services begin in Bloomington.
1998 -The FDA approved the first dedicated use of pills specifically for the purpose of preventing ovulation, fertilization
or implantation after unprotected intercourse. :o
2003 -Planned Parenthood of Greater Indiana serves more 117,000 men and women with preventative services in
Indiana.  Through Pills by Mail, Bill A Pill and Emergency Contraception Online (ECOnline), Planned Parenthood of
Greater Indiana., Inc., helps women from across the state to access reproductive health services
locally and statewide.
 (sounds familiar?)

3.  noticed how the movement that was started in 1932 had evolved through the years?  planned parenthood as it was implemented evolved into abortion services.

4.  government funding was started in 1942!  it looks like it took 69 years for public funds used to support abortions, pills, and what-have-you to be finally withdrawn.

#39448

superstitions are handed down by tradition, very often as part of a people's culture.  considering the power of the human mind (a kind of energy, a bigger part of which is untapped), some things could come true by the sheer force of shared mental energy.  if we all think it is so, then it becomes true.  we must have heard of the so-called "self-fulfilling prophecy".
#39449

di gyod kuno angay mogamit ug pearls on one's wedding.  kadaghanan gyod kuno mag-antos ang baye sa iyang marriage.  labi na kuno ug teardrop-shaped pearls.  buwag gyod kuno ang dangatan.  mapuro ra ko kuno ani kay usa ra man nako ka kaila ang nagmahay nganong nag-pearls siya sa iyang kasal.  puro gira-patani sila sa iyang bana hangtod nagkabuwag.  hinoon, ngano god tawon nga pasumanginlan man ang pearls nga puro man gyod intawon sila bati ug batasan.  ambot ba uroy.
#39450

ang akong nahibaw-an nga ang pearls symbol of tears.  di kuno maayo nga mopalit para sa kaugalingon.  maayo ni basta gift lang.  mao nga aron ko maka-pearls, mopalit ko, unya akong paulian ni banana republic.  so far, so good.  wa pa mobalibad.

One should always be drunk. That's all that matters;
that's our one imperative need. So as not to feel Time's
horrible burden one which breaks your shoulders and bows
you down, you must get drunk without cease.

But with what?
With wine, poetry, or virtue
as you choose.
But get drunk.

Kinahanglan makanunayong mahubog.  Mao ra nay mahinungdanon;
ang atong usa nga labing kinahanglanon.  Aron di mabati ang
makalilisang nga kabug-at sa Panahon nga
makasiak sa imong abaga ug makapabawog kanimo,
kinahanglang makanunayon kang hubog.
Apan sa unsa?
Sa bino, sa balak, o sa kaligdong
Pili ug unsa.
Basta mahubog ka lang.

He he, I didn't want to post something I can't properly check (my French is lousy). Anyhow, here it is (URL provided in case you or Bay Bugs spots a typo or what)...  :)

Romeo and Juliet

we're all very familiar with this; young lovers (16 and 13 years old, goodness gracious!) belonging to two warring families end up killing themselves after believing the other is dead; romeo by taking poison and juliet by stabbing herself with a dagger.

shakespeare's tragedy of a star-crossed young love borrows from a tradition of ancient tragic love stories.

These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which, as they kiss, consume. (Friar Lawrence, warning Romeo to cool down his passion; II.6.9-11)

sukad ko niapil dinhi for almost a year now, ikaunom na ni nakong avatar.  usa ra ang dugay, kadtong nagmaskara. kadiyot ra ang uban kay usahay akong isibo sa tema sa akong giapilan nga heated discussion at the moment, sama atong bahin ug muslims and arabs sometime last year.

if i had my way, i'd rather not change my avatar, which i take as something like a logo of a brand or a banner of a newspaper.  it is an identity that one can tell at a glance.
