I spent time havinig bed rest with the kids.

I was abl;e to have two days of bedrest due to new medicines from my Doctor.

They are not working so now I am taking 1000mg of Hemostat to help slow down bleeding that I have had for three months straight with no day off.

My pants are literally falling off of me now.

Ugma ni ulka sa Dr. and ask her if there is an alternative medicines that would be 100% effective for me to use?

My daughter and I went to the Plaza Rizal late on Saturday night and watched the activities at the church and it was capped of with about a 30minute firework show with the help of Dennis Du from Dunkin Donuts Dragon Fireworks tyhe firework display was wonderfull it literally had my dotr in tears!

I have transferred the post on the second British on a new topic.

To be honest Atty. Lim is very mad in how they (the PNP) allowed Martins wife just to do as she damn chooses in how she was able to meddle and break her way inside the house that was locked up and to have possibly botched up this case and has destroyed any evidences that  of lead or could have proved if there was a Mastermind?

Priscilla,

I am impressed with your dedication to your work, and truly you bring a fresh breeze in Bohol Journalism. I admire your American perspective and how you provide that perspective in Bohol Journalism.

Make sure you rest and take it easy as well. Let your mind unwind and don't let such cases affect you too much.

Your health and your safety should be your top priority. Rest a while, make sure to take enough fluids, and keep up with your medication.

Happy Easter, Priscilla. God Bless you for what you are doing and your dedication to your profession.

Sincerely,

To the one who took my heart,

Please give me back my heart.
It isn't right for you hold it
Keeping it
When you know that you do not reciprocate.

Why am I so affected by this?

As much as I try to forget you,
I remember our nights,
I remember swing dancing with you
Your soft gentle hands clasped with mine

I refuse to be affected

Yet,
Behind my stoic face,
I cannot help but remember.

So please, please, give back my heart.

The act of legalization or not should be left up to the individual nation states, in the spirit of democracy and national autonomy.

Be it legalized or not, it should be priority to enlighten the population of the hazards as well as the positives of this chemical toxin (and I choose to call it so, because it is a chemical toxin, biochemically).

Buwad, thats the capitalistic concept.

The Russians do the same, and more.

Who provides the uranium for nuclear technology to North Korea and Iran?
Russia, my friend.

Who provided the Vietnamese with arms? Russia.

Who provided the Arab nations with Mig-21s and missiles to be used against the Israelis in the 1967 War? And again in the 7 Day War?
Answer: Russia

What about the British? Do you know that they sell arms munitions? So do the Germans, The Spanish, The Japanese, The Koreans, and the Chinese.

Its a global continuum, Buwad. You cannot wipe all the blame in on one country when there is a multitude of nations that participates in the same capitalistic process.

And in this economic scenario, you cannot blame, because they follow the law of Mercantilism. Supply and Demand.

If there is a demand, there will, definitely, be a supply.

Cheers,

Mr. Rald,

If Augustus were born in our day and managed to rise to the ranks of a senator or politician in the Philippines, the Philippines would become a power house in the region.

The brilliance of Augustus and his piety to his religion is something to be modeled after by any and all politicians. In any epoch.

I would compare his brilliance to that of Abraham Lincoln.

Great in their own time. And still great and honored in later generations.

#39420
Augustus was heralded also by the Roman people as a religious primarch, a devotee and devout practictioner of Roman religion.

He was a devotee of the God Mars and Jupiter.

The Roman historian wrote about him:

He (Augustus The Great) built many public works, in particular the following: his forum with the temple of Mars the Avenger, the temple of Apollo on the Palatine, and the fane of Jupiter the Thunderer on the Capitol. His reason for building the forum was the increase in the number of the people and of cases at law, which seemed to call for a third forum, since two were no longer adequate. Therefore it was opened to the public with some haste, before the temple of Mars was finished, and it was provided that the public prosecutions be held there apart from the rest, as well as the selection of jurors by lot.

He reared the temple of Apollo in that part of his house on the Palatine for which the soothsayers declared that the god had shown his desire by striking it with lightning. He joined to it colonnades with Latin and Greek libraries, and when he was getting to be an old man he often held meetings of the senate there as well, and revised the lists of jurors. He dedicated the shrine to Jupiter the Thunderer because of a narrow escape; for on his Cantabrian expedition during a march by night, a flash of lightning grazed his litter and struck the slave dead who was carrying a torch before him.

And many such works were built at that time by many men; for example, the temple of Hercules and the Muses by Marcius Philippus, the temple of Diana by Lucius Cornificius, the Hall of Liberty by Asinius Pollio, the temple of Saturn by Munatius Plancus, a theatre by Cornelius Balbus, an amphitheatre by Statilius Taurus, and by Marcus Agrippa in particular many magnificent structures.

Next to the immortal Gods he honoured the memory of the leaders who had raised the estate of the Roman people from obscurity to greatness. Accordingly he restored the works of such men with their original inscriptions, and in the two colonnades of his forum dedicated statues of all of them in triumphal garb, declaring besides in a proclamation: "I have contrived this to lead the citizens to require me, while I live, and the rulers of later times as well, to attain the standard set by those worthies of old." He also moved the statue of Pompey from the hall in which Gaius Caesar had been slain and placed it on a marble arch opposite the grand door of Pompey's theatre.

It is also interesting to read about what the Roman historians described Augustus. As it adds mortality to the genius that was Augustus.

The historian Seutonius described Augustus as, "He was unusually handsome ... He had clear, bright eyes ... His teeth were wide apart, small, and ill-kept; his hair was slightly curly and inclining to golden; his eyebrows met. His ears were of moderate size, and his nose projected a little at the top and then bent ever so slightly inward. His complexion was between dark and fair. He was short of stature."

In fact, its interesting when one analyzes the architecture of the United States Governmental buildings, as it retains a strong Roman-style and form.

Especially the Supreme Court and the United States Capitol Building, which is home to the Senate and House of Representatives.

The United States Supreme Court

The United States Capitol Building
Home to the US Senate and House of Congress
Notice the Roman style in architecture

Abraham Lincoln Memorial
-If you analyze this in a contextual point of view, it is basically a Temple
-The degree of popularity of Lincoln in US history text books, in contextual dialogue, in sociological view, and political reference, his popularity in the American psyche has basically made him into a political deity.

No, I don't believe Rome totally perished.
Rome lives on today.
#39423
There are some historians that would say that Rome lives on today.
Only in another form, another nation.

There are those who would say that America is the new Roman Empire
and Washington D.C the new Rome.

The United States of America holds true to the notion of a Republican form of Democracy.
The old Roman Senatorial class lives on in the halls of the Congress of the United States: The Senate and the House of Representatives.

And the President as the 'enlightened' form of the Roman Emperor.

There are similarities between the two. Both were super powers in their own times.

Let me give you a case point scenario, Buwad.

In the recent clashes between the AFP and MNLF forces, the peace process has always been under ushered by a 3rd party. Notice that it has always been Malaysia being that particular group.

I am not fond of the duplicity of the Malaysian government, as its tactics have manifested that for quite some time.

Prior to the peace process between MNLF and AFP forces, do you know where most of the MNLF recieved aid from? Take a big guess.

Yes, from private contributors in Malaysia. :)
And do you happen to know what the MNLF uses the funds for? For building schools and planting flowers? Oh no, definitely not. Arms purchases, my friend. Where do you think they recieve their RPGs, their AK47s, the stolen M16s, AR-33s and grenades? From funds given by 3rd parties.

Let us also remember the last clash the AFP had with the MNLF, where Filipino troops and officers were killed and beheaded. Do you think the MNLF merely left the rifles of the dead Filipino soldiers on the ground? As they lay? Of course not. They took their rifles, ammunition, munitions etc.

Its a cyclic process, Buwad.

The Philippines is at the mercy of duplicitous 3rd parties.

Cheers,

islamiyah, al queda or abus or bayuts its still m16's american guns manufactired by the americans. thats american bizness! the buck stops there!

Actually the buck stops no where.

We are living in a capitalistic society, one can even argue hedonism, but that is a topic for another day.

The point is, Buwad, that the United States cannot be blamed for selling weapons to allied nations and friendly nations. Thats the beauty and absolution of capitalism. What the buyer nation does with the weapons it has purchased from the United States (either it be using for its military or selling it to paramilitary units and or subversive groups under the detection of foreign watch groups, is all at the discretion of the buyer nation).

In this case it relates to Malaysia and Indonesia.

Please research more about Pan-Malay Islamofascism. It is a product of Javanese militantism. IT calls for the destruction of the governments in Kuala Lumpur and Manila, and reclamation of all Malay Peoples under one Islamic Republic.

Its a terroristic subversice political concept that has flooded southern Philippines from Indonesia and Malaysia for decades now. Do you think Indonesia and Malaysia want a strong Philippines? Of course not. That would be detrimental to their own national security to have a strong (economic-military-political) Philippines.

Its simple strategy, my friend.

One that has been in effect for quite some time now.

Buwad, do you even research ?

I mean, for you to say that without any research is quite absurd. The Abu Sayyaf is listed as a terrorist group by the United States government and NATO allies. Terrorist funding is restricted.

Additionally, the weapons these insurgents have are all purchased FROM sympathetic Malaysian and Indonesia members of Islamiyah Jeremiah. Many of whom donate weapons. Additionally, most of the weapons are also stolen from Philippine Army munitions and or taken from dead Filipino soldiers.

I really do hope you're not sympathetic towards these Muslim separatists.

May the Iron Hammer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines crush them.

Mr. Rald, you know I was thinking about this some time earlier, but I remember reading a translation of some writings by Claudius Marxentius and of Cicero, who were both scholars in the Roman World during the ending of the BC epoch and the start of the AD epoch;

It was a critical analysis on their part on the Jewish Religion and a comparison to the Roman religion.

We know that in Judaism and similar to Christianity that there is only ONE God, The God of Moses, Abraham, all the prophets of olden days.

The Roman philosophers actually were intrigued by Jewish religious practices, and amazed that the Jews only had one god. As we notice that in most river-based and rich societies that there tended to be a pantheon of deities. Similar to Egyptian and Greek deities.

The Romans studied Jewish religion, and were deeply intrigued in the concept of a personal God. As the gods of the Roman religion were rather impersonal; religious doctrine in Rome required sacrifice and physical momentos of the devotee and to the god(s).

What intrigued Cicero and the like was the longstanding faith of the Jew.

Many civilizations that were conquored by the Romans usually converted to the Roman religion for fear of death, and usually assimilation was quick.
However, the Romans saw the opposite regarding the Province of Judea.

When Rome conquered Judea, Rome built temples of the gods and to the Emperor, and expected a conversion of the local peoples. But to the surprise of the Romans, that manifest will NIL.

Jews remained steadfast to their Monotheistic faith, and abhorred the notion of the pluralism of Roman gods. The Jews, outright, rejected the notion that Caesar was a God. Many Jews reviled the statues to Caesar and desecrating its image, which to the Romans was blasphemy.

It is amazing to me, that even since the days of Christ, the Jews and Early Christians were vehement to their faith. Sticking to their faith under fear of death.

As powerful as Rome was, not ever her armies could force the Jews or early Christians to convert to its pagan religion.

:)

THAT, is the POWER of FAITH.

#39437
That is very true, Mr. Rald.

The different perspectives of the societies.

That is one of the many reasons why Herod I and his son, Herod Antipas was unpopular with the Jewish people at the time.

Herod was busy trying to enlighten Caesar Augustus that he even built a city called Tiberias and built it in Roman form. And even erected a Temple to Jupiter, to Diana and to the Emperor himself.

Burning incense and offering prayers to the Emperor.

To the Jews and to Christ, no doubt, the actions of Herod was blasphemy.

#39438
Spiritually,

I found my LORD in my tenure at Allegheny College.
The evangelistic vision was conferred to me in the many dialogues I had with my college chaplain, Fr. Mark Hoffman. In his tutelage, I joined the choir, participated in Newman Association (the collegiate catholic association). Under his teachings, I renewed my faith and entered full communion with the Holy Roman Catholic Church when I was confirmed in Easter 2007.

Fr. Mark Hoffman was sent to another parish some 60 miles away in my senior year of college, but a bunch of us drove to his parish to attend his opening mass in his new Parish.

My face brightened to see him again, to hear his voice and talk to him. 'Pops' I used to call him. Because he was like a 2nd father to me, especially when I was in college.

I will always have a special place in my heart for Fr. Mark Hoffman.

Thank You, Father Mark, for teaching me the WORD of CHRIST. And opening this heart to HIS Love.

God Be With You, Always,

Poems and Poets / A Time For Renewal
April 13, 2009, 04:23:08 AM
Isn't it so beautiful?
The message of the LORD

Just as the orchid will wither and die in winter,
the same seed of the same orchid will rise again in spring
A renewal of LIFE.

As the Lord came to this World
To take human flesh
so that He could become one of us
To die on the cross
And to Rise on the THIRD day
so that we could be like HIM

There is no permanence in Death
Physically, yes, the shell will die
But the spirit, which created from The Father,
Will rise again,
At the appointed hour.

So where is thy sting, o death?
Where is thy victory?

Easter Time, indeed
Is
A Time For Renewal.

Poems and Poets / The Love And Mercy Of The Lord
April 13, 2009, 04:08:39 AM
Ye, there is pain and heart ache in life,
Ye, there is morose and deep longing in our hearts
I have despaired, I have gloomed, but I found salvation.

Ye, there were moments in life when I was afflicted,
Ye, there were times when friends could not be found,
But hark, I was shown a way
A way of thanksgiving,
A way of towards understanding
A way towards MERCY
A way towards FORGIVENESS
A way towards His Love

Ye, there are those who talk ill about us
Those who harken words that are meant to ache
Words and actions that defy their own consciousness,
Wretched words that have no sympathy in their own:
Jealousy
Anger
Ambivalence
And Pride

Lo, I was in the verge of reciprocation
But, I took a deep breath
Released all my pains and the pains of my loved ones
And in my heart I was forgiven,
The Lord is KIND.

He has shown me a way towards forgiveness
A way towards remedy
A way towards understanding
A way towards remuneration
A way to wipe the sins of others and forgive them

Though they may usher words of malice
to you and to me,
The Lord tells us to BLESS those who talk ill about us
The Lord who died for US and ROSE for US on the 3rd day,
Let HIM live in our hearts.

Always and Forever.

IN Jesus' Name.

Last christmas break, I went to a Fiesta for the Blessed Santo Nino, and there I talked with some of my fellow Filipino-American friends, of course we separated ourselves from the loud and busy kitchen-family room area where our parents were talking and eating and dancing. LOL!

Its amazing for me, because wherever we Filipinos, either we be in California, Nevada, Utah, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Alaska even, Hawaii etc, whenever we go to a Filipino Party--there will always have this:

1) Karaoke or MagicMIke
2) Inasal/ Lechon
3) Diniguan and puto
4) Pancit Bihon/canton
5) Pang kare kare
6) People doing the CHA-CHA!

hahahaha, i think all the parties ive been, my titas and titos always try to somehow make me karaoke a Pinoy song with a girl.

Oh i also forgot, there is always a song called 'Baleleng' being sung too. LOL!

My tito Simon loves that song, and Tito Bern, and Tito Jan too. hahaha!

Ug mo adto mi sa Filipino party----so very bibo bibo kaayo. I can feel the spirit. The dancing, the reverie.

Aduy,

I really have so much respect for you guys over there, sir. I remember my dad could only come back to Pinas once a year when he was over there in Saudi.

He worked so much to provide a good house, food for the table, and send us to school.

Now that we are here in the 'states, my father who is a trained Civil Engineer--a product of Cebu Institute of Technology, is now an OR Nurse over here in the 'states. :)

Can you imagine? A Professional Engineer, who went back to nursing school in the 'states to become an RN? :)

That to me, is the epitome of a Filipino. Where ever you put a Filipino (be he an Engineer, A Nurse, A Physician, Teacher etc), he will prosper. It is a product of the successful educational system in the Philippines. Teaches hard work, and hard work!

In a conversation I had with my dad and some of his compadres (who are also civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers), the Filipino is paid less in Saudi, but his workshmanship and feasability far more superior to that of the Jordanian, Indian or Sri Lankan contemporaries.

Even if they are paid less, the Filipino still does his job, according to specs and even more.

My dad was a site supervisor for large construction firm in Riyadh, and when he had a quota or project, it was delivered in time and before schedule. He presided over Thai, Sri Lankan, Indian and Filipino construction workers. ensync ang workers to orders that were given by my father and other Engineers.

When it comes to work, it is above par. That is why I have alot of respect for Filipino Engineers and Construction workers.
#39454
Indeed.

My dad was a Civil Engineer and worked over there in Riyadh for some 8 years before moving to the 'states with my mom.

Ingoon si dad, daghan kaayo Filipinos dinha sa Saudi. Mga Engineers ug construction workers, aides etc.

In an article published by ADVANCE NURSES, Filipinos form a SUBSTANTIAL backbone in the American Medical Workforce.

Filipino Nurses are charge nurses, OR nurses, Anesthetist Nurses, ICU Nurses, CCU nurses, PCU nurses, ER Nurses, Nursing Home Nurses, Hospice Care Nurses etc~

There are about 20,000 Filipino and Filipino-American Physician-Surgeons.

Jesus the Bread of Life

25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?"
26 Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.
27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."
28 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Repent! The Lord Jesus Christ died for US!
And His Father in Heaven raised HIM from the dead on the 3rd DAY!

Hosanna In The Highest!

Mary,
On this, the Lord's Day,
We celebrate with joy the fulfillment of the miracle
God began in your womb.
He became what we are
So that we might become what he is.
He is Risen, the first-fruits of those who have fallen
asleep.
He reigns as Lord and God forever.
In your marveling at the great things the Mighty One
worked in you,
We find our own awe at being chosen sons (and daughters)
of God,
Of being empowered to become a nation of saints,
Of being commissioned to bear Christ to the world.
With you as our companion and model,
May God bring this good work to completion
And may our dedication to you of all that we have and are
Bring us to share in your blessedness.
Amen.

I extend this question to all of you guys:

What does The Gospel say about handling correction from our parents? And in a general sense, being corrected.
Please share a verse in scripture that associates with this question.

All are welcome, to share in this thread. Please join me in opening our bibles and searching the Word of God.

All are welcome to join in this discussion. :)
Okay ha?

I will answer this,

First and foremost, it is evident to us that our LORD GOD loves us, and HIS love is shown in his reproofs and his disciplinary actions. So too, as our Heavenly Father disciplines us, so too will our own earthly fathers. They discipline us because they love us, because they want to correct us.
We, the children, the fruit of the womb, are subjected to it.

Please read and remember:

And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?

-Hebrews 12: 5-11

There is righteousness in discipline and knowing the right from wrong!!
:

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

-Hebrews 12: 11

and

Children should remember their place, and the role of our parents.

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
-Colossians 3: 20

The Role of a Father is mandated, discplining his child is not bad, but is work towards wisdom and righteousness !

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Your tongue is as sharp as the knife in my kitchen,
Your words are hurtful,
Your words are wretched,
Why do you say such hurtful things to people?

But instead of reciprocating your hatred and wrath,
I forgive you,
Yes, I forgive you, your hurtful words and your grudgery.

I know you are reading this, and I know you know who I am talking to.
You.

Though you may be hostile,
Though you may have some kind of vendetta,
know, and please bury this in your heart of ice,
that your wicked hate and envy and malice stays with you.
Because I have transcended you.
I forgive you.

Everything, absolutely everything.
I forgive you.
I pray for you.

Peace to your mind, and your soul.

Do you remember when?
When I would walk to Walker Annex and bring flowers to you,
to sneak into your room after midnight hours, for fear of the RA finding me,
sneaking int your room, seeing your smiling face, and opening your comforter for me.
And feeling the warmth of your legs on my thighs,
Feeling and hearing the rising of your chest on mine.

Do you remember when?
As I gazed into your eyes, your beautiful crystal green eyes,
as green as the clover of green ,
as green as the colors of Notre Dame
Do you remember my whispers into your ears?
My many sentimental messages?
Do you remember the notes I used to write to you?
I used to throw at you?

Do you remember when?
I used to swing dance with you
on Fridays, we would dress up to attend the swing club
the hotness of your feet, the speed of your feet,
as it complemented my steps and swing,
Do you remember? Yes?

Do you remember my kiss?
As I remember your warm sweet lips?
My dear love, I can still taste your lips, like the brisk morning of a spring dawn,
as the dew drops onto a budding tulip,
Yes, of course I do.

Do you remember?
I do.

As compared to the modern: John, James, Billy, Mark, Henry, Albert etc etc.

'Great power comes with a cost, assassinations were frequent, and even the Divinity of an Emperor could not protect his mortal flesh from the blades of his Praetorians,' said Dr. Turk, Professor of World History and Roman History at the prestigious Allegheny College.

And that was exactly the point. Internal court intrigue revolved around the schemes of relatives of the Emperor, senators, military factions and even the praetorian guard.

The rise of Caesar Claudius only came after the death of Caligula, who was murdered by his own Praetorian Guard.

Claudius in prostration pleading for his life to the Praetorian Guard. The Praetorian guards found him hiding after hearing that his nephew, Caligula, was stabbed to death by the Praetorian while sitting on the Imperial Throne, still enrobed with the Imperial Colours.

The Praetorian Guard did not kill Claudius, rather, found him and hailed him as Emperor-elect.

The best classical example of Divine Right and Absolute Power can be seen in the Political and Religious roles of the Roman Emperor. The Roman Emperor and the Imperial Office was subject to auspicious ritual sacrifice as well as garnished a cult following, namely the Cult of The Emperors, to which many religious fanatics and military leaders were part of.

The Office of the Emperor, was regarded by Roman Citizens as the epitome of Supreme Power. The Emperor was regarded as the living, breathing incarnation of Jupiter, who was the Father of the Pantheon of Roman Gods. And like so, the writ and commands of the Emperor was regarded as absolute law, power immeasurable that could overwrite and override even the will of the Senate and People of Rome (SPQR).

The Roman Emperor was not only a political figure that presided over the Senate, but was a religious officer. He was considered the Primarch of Religious festivals, the guardian and protector of Old Roman Virtues, he led the sacrifices and prayers to Jupiter, Diana, Mars, Saturn, and Divus Ilieus (The Deified form of Julius Caesar) and following Emperors.

In an analytical and strategic perspective, the extrapolation of both religious and political powers and placing it in the hands of One man, under One Office gave absolute control to one being. The singular unit that commanded the Empire. To which prayers were offered and incense burnt for.

Undeniably, the Office of The Emperor Of Rome was one to vie for, and at the same time, a dangerous one.

The Illustration of Imperial Divinity

The Statue of Emperor Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (CLAUDIUS)
-Note he is crowned with the Imperial Laurentius (the laurel crown), which signifies political power
-Note also he is enrobed with the Priestly Regalia, signifying his Religious Primarchy
-Note also in his right hand he has the incense-plate, which incense would be lit and offered along with prayers and praise
-Epitome of Divine Absolutism.

Question and Answer / What Does Divine Right Mean?
April 12, 2009, 09:27:00 AM
The concept of Divine Right of Monarchs (Kings or Emperors) has been a precept and used as a pretext to apply edicts and laws, as a solemn way of legitimizing a particular order and or action.

Either it be in regards to The Pharaohic Kings of Egypt, to the God-Emperors of Rome, to the Deva-Raja of Indus Valley Civilizations and South East Asia, to the Dynasties of China and Japan to the Jungle Thrones of the Aztec and Inca, it was used to solidify power and rule.

Let us analyze this concept on a case by case basis.

Interestingly enough,

I've had many a conversation with fellow historians and history students regarding Augustus and leaders in the last 3-4 centuries. One colleague of mine back in Allegheny College, who now is a PhD doctoral student at Duke University, argued that Hitler was similar in the likes of Augustus. In terms of military quota and ambition.

I disagreed, Hitler didn't even come close to the genius that was Augustus. Hitler's military tactics were folly: per se Operation Barbarosa, his foolish venture to conquer the USSR, which failed absolutely, resulting in the loss of over 35 Divisions of Germany's best and the sacrifice of his famed Panzer Divisions. Hitler butched millions of peoples for a foolish ideology of purification, Augustus was nothing like that.

Hitler was not even remotely close to the political and overall Genius of Caesar Augustus.

Hitler was more of a Romulus Augustulus than anything else. --- The result of a tired and economically backwards peoples

Augustus was a living and breathing genius in his time, who dreamed of making the Elbe the new 'Roman Frontier'. Augustus wasn't a war hawk, rather he brought about the greatest epoch in Roman History, PAX ROMANA 'Roman Peace'. Which lasted for about 40-50 years. It was the most prosperous and peaceful time throughout the continuum of The Roman Empire! There were no wars, production and infrastructure boomed in unprecedented levels never heard of or seen of.

It was under the rule of Augusts that the Empire reformed its Legions and tactics in siege warfare and agricultural revolution blossomed. Bringing in grain from Egypt and Germania-Gaul, and zinc, copper, tungsten, metal ore from Hispanola and Dacia, Gold and ivory from North Africa, and timber and stone from Brittania, and the spices from Parthia and the East.

Hail Great Augustus!

To celebrate the restoration of its 184-year-old pipe organ, Baclayon Church is hosting a night of classical music on December 6, to be led by celebrated Spanish conductor and composer Cristóbal Halffter, principal guest conductor of the National Orchestra in Madrid and recipient of the Gold Medal for Fine Arts from King Juan Carlos of Spain.

Organized with the support of the Zobel de Ayala family, Ayala Corporation, and Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI), the concert will feature Halffter, together with acclaimed Spanish pianist Maria Manuela Caro. The concert will feature performances of classical pieces from Europe and the Philippines, and will signal the return of Baclayon’s pipe organ, which fell into disrepair and has not been used for over 60 years.

Among the pieces that will be performed during the concert are George Frideric Handel’s Largo, Antonio de Cabezón’s Tiento del Primer Tono, and Manuel Velez’s Sa Kabukiran.

The Baclayon pipe organ was modified once in 1902, but many of the changes were of poor quality and often unnecessary. Before its restoration earlier this year, the pipe organ had been left covered with thick layers of dust, with several parts missing or damaged. With the support of Patricia Zobel de Ayala, the organ was carefully taken apart and flown to Manila for extensive repair.

The restoration of the pipe organ is just one of the projects that the Zobel de Ayalas and AFI are undertaking in Bohol. Beatriz Susana Zobel de Ayala Jr., for instance, is advocating sustainable community development and the preservation of natural and cultural sites through a business model for social development. Most of these projects are concentrated in the municipalities of Baclayon and Dauis, which are well known not only for their diverse flora and fauna but also for their rich history and tradition.

Developing Dauis and Baclayon through their historical, cultural, and natural sites provided the framework for Bea Zobel Jr.’s projects, which focus on improving and restoring neglected historical sites, creating new infrastructures to generate income for Boholanos, and conducting training and seminars to introduce new skills and update the business proficiency of Bohol’s micro-entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, on December 5, a day before their performance at Baclayon Church, Halffter will conduct the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in a benefit concert at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Entitled “Bravo España.” The concert is organized in cooperation with the Spanish Embassy, and will also feature Caro, Filipino pianist Rudolf Golez and the Philippine Madrigal Singers. Among the pieces that will be performed at the concert are several pieces by Spanish composers, including Halffter himself.

Bravo indeed! His Majesty King Juan Carlos is broad minded to re-establishing good relations in this quaint town.

Cheers to continued good relations between The Philippines and Spain!

Quote from: raldampong on April 11, 2009, 03:18:38 PM
Octavian is son of Marcus Antonus to Athea Julia his mother the sister of Gaius Julius Ceasar. He became a favorite nephew of Gaius Juluis Ceasar and adapted son. He and his father allied to depeat the republican Army of Lapidus  And came back to Rome  to become a Politician(consul). Later on He hated his father Marcus Antonius very much because of his affair to Cleopatra. And dismantled his own father Marcus Antonius in Egypt.

Later he became Emperor Agustus. And restored peace in The Roman Empire.

Augustus changed the face of Rome, and its political structure, as well.

Prior to his rise to power, Rome existed as a Republic, since the Brutii and the Scipii deposed the last truscan Monarchy some centuries prior.

Roman Republicanism, was the purest form of a Federalist Republic, existing for almost 4 centuries. It was under Roman Republicanism that led to the defeat of the Carthaginians to the Republic in all 3 Punic Wars, leading to the substantial growth of Rome's Possessions overseas--which was one of the main reasons that stimulated the growth of the Roman Navy.

It would supplant the Carthaginian Navy as the largest naval power throughout the entire Mediterranean, and the world at the time.

We have to analyze the actions of the Senate of Rome. This way we can analyze and have a firm bearing on why Caesar Julius was murdered in the Capitoline Steps within the Senatorial Chambers. The senatorial leaders such as Cassius, Brutus, and Cicero believed that Julius Caesar were to remain Dictator for Life, he would undermine the Senate's powers and thwart the present idealogues of Roman Republicanism. They feared a reversal of the political advances of the day, they feared that Rome would yet again become an absolutist monarchy, that was deaf to the pleas of the people and numb to the Republican Democracy that epitomized the Roman Cause.

His murder was perceived to have been the only solution.

They were wrong. The senate was wrong. Immeasurably wrong.

After his death, the heir of Julius Caesar was his grand-nephew, Gaius Octavian Caear (Augustus), who would out due and outlive his adoptive father. In his life time, Augustus would multiply the gains won by Caesar, and dealt a heavy blow to the notion of Roman Republicanism.

Augustus' rise to the throne brought in great centralization to the powers of the Emperor, and marginalized the powers of the Senate. The pure form of Roman Republican Democracy was extinguished altogether in BC 23 when Augustus was proclaimed IMPERATOR, because his role and position was greater than what Caesar Julius ever dreamed. Julius Caesar wanted to become Dictator for Life, and remain the Consul of the Senate.

But what Augustus did, and bequethed by Imperial Decree, was elevate his position above the Senate and the People of Rome. The creation of the Office of The Emperor was, categorically speaking, a religious one. The Emperor and the Office of the Emperor was that of a Religious Primarchy, he was considered the living, breathing, flesh-incarnation of JUPITER, The Roman King of The Gods. Quite similar to the role of Pharaoh in Egyptian civilization and religion. The notion of God-King, or in this case, a God-Emperor.

Augusus not only created a new office, an Imperial Office, but also faciliated the creation of the notion of a God-Emperor. He was, in their society, the personal God for the Roman Citizen. And burning incense and offering prayers to the Emperor was quite common in the Classical Roman Imperial Epoch.

So in the end, the Senate did fail. Their powers were extrapolated and conferred upon the Emperor. The Emperor was considered to be not only a God-Deity, but the Will of the Roman Empire. His word was law, his word was truth, his word was absolute and unchallengeable like the walls of Rome.

Yes, so indeed, the Roman Republic was altogether destroyed and replaced by the Roman Empire.
That is how a Monarchy destroys a Republic.

We see a reversal of political systems in this analysis. First we have an Etruscan Monarchy, which was then overturned and replaced by a Roman Republic, which then would be replaced by an Imperial Monarchical System. With Absolute Power.

;)
#39485
The historian, Dr. Turk, a Professor of World History and Roman History at Allegheny College, once said, "Had the Roman Empire produced an Augustus-Like Emperor 3-4 times, Rome would never have fallen. Rome would have conquored the entire world."

I contextually agree with that statement.

In the battle of Philippi, Gaius Octavian Caesar (Augustus) commanded and led  his army against the Republican Army led by Brutus and Cassius. Though numerically inferior to the Republican Army, Augustus was able to route the entire Republican Army.

A TOTAL victory.
#39486
The magnificent and auspicious rule of Emperor Augustus, which saw the greatest rise of Roman culture,economy, military prominence, was and is remembered by historians and people, was unequaled and unrivaled by any other Emperor in Roman History.

Augustus The Great only had one flaw, he bore no male child heir to his Imperial Throne.

Augustus gave everything to the Empire, body and soul. He personally commanded armies in his wars to conquering all of Gaul and Germania, attended most Roman religious rituals, traveled to Egypt, Parthia. The pressure of the Imperial Office was definite on the Emperor.

He was unsuccessful in providing the Empire with a male son.

Instead, by proclamation, he named his next of kin, a nephew, Tiberius, to be his regent.

       and I will proclaim your great deeds.

7 They will celebrate your abundant goodness
       and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

8 The LORD is gracious and compassionate,
       slow to anger and rich in love.

9 The LORD is good to all;
       he has compassion on all he has made.

10 All you have made will praise you, O LORD;
       your saints will extol you.

11 They will tell of the glory of your kingdom
       and speak of your might,

12 so that all men may know of your mighty acts
       and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
       and your dominion endures through all generations.
       The LORD is faithful to all his promises
       and loving toward all he has made.

14 The LORD upholds all those who fall
       and lifts up all who are bowed down.

15 The eyes of all look to you,
       and you give them their food at the proper time.

16 You open your hand
       and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways
       and loving toward all he has made.

18 The LORD is near to all who call on him,
       to all who call on him in truth.

19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
       he hears their cry and saves them.

20 The LORD watches over all who love him,
       but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD.
       Let every creature praise his holy name
       for ever and ever.

How about Martin Luther, I thought he was one responsible to weakened and led to collapsed the strongest and powerful Roman Empire.

No, Martin Luther didn't do such thing. Martin Luther was a Catholic Monk turned reformer, whose 95 thesis led to the reformation of the Roman Catholic Church and some questionable tactics.

The classical Roman Empire collapsed in the 5th century AD (Western Roman Empire) and in the 15th century (Eastern Roman Empire/ Byzantine Empire).

You bring up a good point, Mr. Felix.

The families of the dead veterans should also be remitted.

It is unjust for the US Congress to do this; when our veterans are dying of old age.

They should have done this before, they should have done this when our grandparents were still alive, they should all have been given US Citizenships and given Veteran Medical Care.

They fought for the American Flag. And many giving their all, the ultimate sacrifice, for that belief.

America owes them, the veterans, and the surviving members.

I weep because my own Lola passed away in 1998 without even being recognized. She was also a veteran.

Always be nice to people on the way up; because you'll meet the same people on the way down.

Beautiful quote.

Even the weak and meek, will be exalted by the Lord God.

By His Grace. All and anything is possible.

In times of wickedness, when those who plot against you, during times of trying moments, when betrayed, when heart broken, when in solemn loneliness, do not depress.

Do not weep and depress, as that is what the devil wants you to do. To forsake.

Instead, cast your fears and your uncertainty aside, and GLORIFY the Lord God.
For His name is worthy of ALL the Glories, Honors and Praises.

In good, and even bad times, Glorify the Name of God.

Denver, faith can move mountains. Thank you for addressing this to us. Sadly, I admit, I didn't even know about this.

As we celebrate Christ's crucifixion on the Cross for us, we should always remember that he died for us and our sins. Cleansed ta tanan sa sacrifice ni Jesu Cristo.

Imagine, He loved us that much He died for our sins.

Its sweet simplicity is Eternal. The LOVE of God.

Amen, Denver.

Bisan mamatay, i-raise man atong espiritu.

If God The Father raised Christ Jesus from the dead on the 3rd day, so too will he raise us and our loved ones in the day of Judgement.

God Bless, you. Wait In the Lord. Wait.

This problem must be addressed by the Municipal government in Mabini and the Provincial Government in Tagbilaran.

This is a total shame that there is not even a medical clinic in the town.

I am with you guys in this. My support, definitely.

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Bible Study / The Dichotomy of Good and Evil
April 11, 2009, 10:53:17 AM
Psalm 37

Do not fret because of evildoers,
Be not envious toward wrongdoers.
For they will wither quickly like the grass,
And fade like the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
And He will bring forth righteousness as the light,
And your judgement as the noonday.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
Do not fret, it leads only to evildoing.
For evildoers will be cut off,
But those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land.
Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more;
And you will look carefully for his place, and he will not be there.
But the humble will inherit the land,
And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity.

The wicked plots against the righteous,
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
The Lord laughs at him;
For He sees his day coming.
The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow,
To cast down the afflicted and the needy,
To slay those who are upright in conduct.
Their sword will enter their own heart,
And their bows will be broken.

Better is the little of the righteous
Than the abundance of many wicked.
For the arms of the wicked will be broken;
But the Lord sustains the righteous.
The Lord knows the days of the blameless;
And their inheritance will be forever.
They will not be ashamed in the time of evil;
And in the days of famine they will have abundance.
But the wicked will perish;
And the enemies of the Lord will be like the glory of the pastures,
They vanish --like smoke they away.
The wicked borrows and does not pay back,
But the righteous is gracious and gives.
For those blessed by Him will inherit the land;
But those cursed by Him will be cut off.

The steps of a man are established by the Lord;
And He delights in his way.
When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong;
Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.
I have been young, and now I am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Or his descendants begging bread.
All day long he is gracious and lends;
And his descendants are a blessing.

Depart from evil, and do good,
So you will abide forever.
For the Lord loves justice,
And does not forsake his godly ones;
They are preserved forever;
But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.
The righteous will inherit the land,
And dwell in it forever.
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
And his tongue speaks justice.
The law of his God is in his heart;
His steps do not slip.
The wicked spies upon the righteous,
And seeks to kill him.
The Lord will not leave him in his hand,
Or let him be condemned when he is judged.
Wait for the Lord, and keep His way,
And He will exalt you to inherit the land;
When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

I have seen a violent, wicked man
Spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil.
Then he passed away, and lo, he was no more;
I sought for him, but he could not be found.
Mark the blameless man, and behold the upright;
For the man of peace will have a posterity.
But transgressors will be altogether destroyed;
The posterity of the wicked will be cut off.
But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
He is their strength in time of trouble.
And the Lord helps them, and delivers them;
He delivers them from the wicked, and saves them,
Because they take refuge in Him.
