So do I, Melrose.  I was diagnosed of myalgia of the upper trapezius more than 10 years ago unya karon pati naman lower back nako.  I was in theraphy for many months until gihaguan nako sige'g therapy.  It's already a chronic pain so I learned to ignore na the pain but when I am so stressed, di jud ma ignore.   Ang gi ingon sa doctor, di daw pahilot but wa ko namati kay ma relieve man jud kon mahilot.

Let's see what Doc Dodong Bran can say about our condition.  :)

Hi Ate Ging,

kining myalgia of the trapezius can be caused by either:
1) nerve receptor hyperactivity (nociceptor hyperactivity: pain receptors ni sila)
2) Stress
3) Pathology in the accessory and cervical nerves.

When a person is stressed, it heightens receptors for pain, Ate Ging.
In these cases, of chronic pain, one can strengthen their dorsal muscles by exercising them. And if it is really severe, a physician will prescribe pain medication, but abuse of that can and will lead to dependency.

If hiluting helps relieve the pain, then continue with it, as massaging does help vasodilation and blood flow to the tissue. But if the pain is burning and aching and really unconditional, please ask to see a back pain specialist.

Because in the lower back, ate ging, chronic pain in that region is also symptomatic for endocrinal pathology. Kidney, colonic, and liver abnormality. We are told that even asymptomatic patients should have their levels checked at least once a year to make sure. Consant pain on the side of the lumbar area, also is symptomatic of bile cyrstallization, 'te. This manifests in gall stones. And it does lead to lower lateral back pain.

Always see the doctor, once a month jud. Bisan way symptoms, always ask for check up (complete). Better prevention that treatment of an ailment.

Love you,

I have back pains 24 hours/7 days a week. Any suggestions on how to ease pain?  :(

Hi Mel,

Kindly asking lang ko, how long have you had this back pain? Recently ni or has it been for a good while now?

Where are you having pain, what part of the back?
Is it in the upper posterior? Shoulder-scapular area? Spinal area? lower lumbar? Side?

Mel, there are alot of spinal nerves and nerve roots that travel through our spinal cord, and each of these nerves will connect to a specific target tissue (muscle, gland,) because this provides effector signals (from brain to tissue) as well as they are routes for affector pathways (from tissue/muscle to brain).

Back pain can be caused by a weakening of back muscles; trapezius, latissimus dorsi muscles, and or neuritis, which is an inflamation of a spinal nerve. Sometimes, the pain can also be due to improper movement/prolapse of the spinal disc.

Mel,

if this pain has been recently, (for last week or just recently), I suggest you do back exercises to strengthen your back, and don't apply too much pressure, or force on your back. Avoid strong massages if it hurts. As it could indicate nerve damage.

If this pain has been here for over 3 months, Mel, this is already called Chronic back pain.
If your family physician cannot diagnose properly, please kindly have him/her refer you to a orthopaedic specialist so they can make the proper diagnosis/prognosis.

I hope you get better, Mel. Please kindly update ra ko.

God Bless You!

My priest, Fr. Ranulfo Guido, who is from Cebu, was an economist before he was called. He is in his late 40s. And has been a priest for the past 8 years.

It is amazing, how one can be called at any age.

I am touched how he gave up, his profession, his life, to carry the Sheppard's staff.

Amen,

Lord continue to bless our priests.
The soldiers of CHRIST.

Who win souls for the Lord.
For the SALVATION of mankind.

In this, unending battle against the demonic enemy, who continues to claim lives and souls in believing untruths and lies.

I have so much respect for young priests.
For them, to make that decision, :'(    GOD BLESS THEM.

To the original poster,

For those who are in the contra in the preservation of Priestly celibacy, why and what is your objective and your resolution? Is it for merely to debate? Or are you actually young men who are truly considering the Royal Priesthood, yet at the same time entertain the notion of marriage, and physical fatherhood?

It is debasing and unequivocally provocative to infer a course of action, when one isn't totally pledged to fulfill the oaths of that respective calling.

If it is so, that the debater merely debates for the sake of debating to see the others point of view, then one's reasons and resolution is moot and obliterated. It is unsubstantiated.

God established the CHURCH. WIthin the church we have : 1) Priest and 2) Laypeople.

The supreme role of Priesthood is to preach, to discern, to guide the flock. To follow scriptural mandates and APOSTOLIC Tradition. The layman, in his or her own indivdual style is to hold true to the teachings and apply it in faith and actions.

God does not count laymanship any less than priesthood; as both positions have different roles. One helps the other in making the right choice, to discern, and sheppard the other away from heretical notions that are under the influence of the Demonic enemy. MAY GOD REBUKE him!

Truly.

Book Reviews / A Critique of "Paradise Lost"
April 21, 2009, 03:48:36 AM
The classic, 'Paradise Lost' written by Milton is definitely one of contemporary pragmatics that divulge a what if scenario in Biblical Scripture.

Though I admit that I had some difficulty in compltely digesting the continuum of this work, I couldn't help but percieve how Milton illustrated a sympathetic view towards Lucifer. As almost a 'lost' son. Who looks for attention and relegates actions unto humanity to merely attract the attention of The Most High.

Whereas Lucifer's cohorts, Belzebub, et al, were vehemntly opposed to reconciliation with the Angelic Forces and re-communion with The Most High, Lucifer even considers the idea.

Lucifer's escape from the Sheol (Hell) and ultimate discovery of The Most High's newest creations (Humanity per se Adam et Eve) angered Lucifer. I couldn't help but observe a jealous tone in the fallen Cherubim, who was blind with envy in how the Lord adored His newest creations.

I admit, the hairs of my body rose when I read this book.
Scary, enlightening, entertaining, all in the same time. Same experience.

Your views? Any?

A review summary by Sharon B of Blog A Penguin Classic:
http://www.blogapenguinclassic.com/site/pcReadReview.php5?review_id=25

QuoteThis is an engrossing tale of love and obsession set during the final days of the French Revolution. Evariste Gamelin, the main protagonist harbours a deep desire to do the right thing for the good of France and its people. Accepting a post as magistrate enables him to dispense justice to those he believes do not share his ideals. But it is soon clear his passion has escalated out of control into obsession. No longer capable of judging right from wrong he becomes, in the words of his mother, "a monster". And his justice is no longer confined to those brought before him at Tribunal, but encompasses perceived wrongs committed by his family, fiancée, neighbours and friends. He saves no one and this ultimately includes himself.

Gamelin is one of a number of memorable, if not all likeable, characters in the book, including his fiancée Eloide. As his fanaticism escalates, so does her revulsion for both him and herself as his increasing cruelty ignites desire in her.

Valencia - Bohol / Re: So What's New In Valencia?

Quote from: calle on April 17, 2009, 07:46:01 AM
Dr. Henrietta, the present mayor, is Dr. Conching's niece, dong. She succeeded her uncle, Nong Abling, when the latter passed away before finishing his second term. Nong Abling, who stood as patriarch of the Lim family after their parents died, succeeded her youngest sister, Dr. Conching, when she finished her three terms.

Dr. Conching got elected in the provincial board for three terms. after finishing her three terms, she ran and won as President of the Association of Barangay Captains in the province.

The three altars of the church were renovated eight years ago during Fr. Estoque's term using indigenous materials, particularly molave, locally known as tugas. The renovation was under the supervision of the National Historical Institute and the Diocesan body tasked in preserving Bohol's heritage. It cost Valencianhons millions to renovate the three altars.

The facade was also renovated at the time of Fr. Galon as well as the roof and ceiling. The facade was funded through donations from Valencia's rich and famous, most notably the families of Drs. Conching and Guido.

The renovation of the roof was very Providential. Before the town fiesta, a Valencianhon, in the person of Tata Abarado, owner of Santisima Trinidad Ice Plant, Santisima Trinidad fishing vessels and Bohol's largest fishpond located in Ubay, had a dream. In her dream, it was raining in Valencia so hard that the Sto. Nino inside the Church got wet. She went to the convent and donated millions for the renovation.

Tito, how old is our church diay? ang real age ?

The architecture of our church looks like it was influenced by late baroque period; Imperial architecture.

The Philippines, in its current situation, is in a verge of national explosion. It has the massive man power to assert its claim, and no nation in the region (ASEAN) is in the position to thwart Philippine claim.

It is clear that the Armed Forces of the Republic of the Philippines is one of the best trained militaries. The fact that the United States Army and Marines trains with the Philippine Marines in Jungle warefare and maritine practice is testament to the brevity of our troops. The world's strongest military learns from the Philippine military :)

I see similarity between the Philippine Republic of the day to the old Roman Republic, before the erruption of the 1st Punic War. You have a potential regional power, whose territorial claims are being rivaled by other powers.

It always annoys me how a small nation like Malaysia has the audacity to occupy and squat on Philippine soil. Sabah. Sabah is Philippine Soil, and has been part of the Sulu Sultanate for over 5 centuries. Even before the Spaniards came, Sabah was part of Sulu, which once ruled over southern Mindanao as well as northern Borneo. The language spoken in Sabah, as well, is similar and identical to Visaya/ Tausug.

#39224
It is becoming more and more obvious that the Philippines needs to assert a militant claim on the Spratleys as well as Sabah.

Malaysia, a nation with a population of less than 30 million is not in the position to dictate and assert its claim over Sabah, which is and has always been part of the Philippines, historically.

In my opinion, reclamation is necessary to assert national territoriality. A fulfillment of Philippine Manifest Destiny.

General Topic / Is The Philippines A Growing Power?
April 21, 2009, 03:13:35 AM
In a conversation I had earlier with some respected colleagues (fellow medical students and 3 professors), we talked about the current global market trends and the overall negative economic growth in the West, and even in Asia-Pacific.

One individual reminded me that the Philippines was actually in positive growth, and has enjoyed a stable unhindered growth rate of 5% for the past 12 years, and an overall growth rate that has maintained a 6-7% growth trend since 2005.

I was reminded, that the population of The Republic of The Philippines currently stands at 97,976,603 (July 2009 estimate).

I am completely in awe. Our country is truly in the verge of regional powerdom. In 2 years, the Philippines will have over 100 Million people. It is evident that resources will be needed to support the growing population of the country.

And my question to you all, fellow Boholanos, Filipinos, and foreigners is:

Will the Philippines remain a docile force in this new century? Or do you think this rise in population will trigger an expansionist policy for the Republic in regards to breathing space?

Do you, believe that the Philippines is a potential regional power? Or is already a regional power?

The population of the Philippines is equivalent to 1/3rd of the total US population.
Philippine's population is double that of Spain's population.

One of the major problems with excessive alcohol intake is the overwork of the alcohol metabolism of the liver, and this will have a direct effect on the Na and H content secretion in the urinary duct. This means excess water secretion, which translates in dehydration. Thats why one has a 'hangover' or 'headache' the next day after alcohol beverage intake.

To equilibriate and ameliorate electrolyte imbalance, one should drink gatorade or water after drinking alcohol. To potentiate water resorption.

Cheers,

And remember, moderation is always key. If you have to drink, drink in moderation. Drink responsibly.

This notion of priesthood is for me, not something one should consider just for the sake of considering or testing.

This is so very beautiful, you know, the Sacrament of Priesthood. The calling of the priesthood. Ive had met many who are now seminarians in their youth, because they were called.

Young men of my age, even younger, called already. Do you all understand the beauty and unparalleled magnamity of such a calling? I attended a Collegiate Catholic Conference 2 years ago at Ganon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. For just. To entertain the calling of priesthood.

Tell you the truth, I once thought I had a calling for it. In my 2nd year of college. I cannot explain the feeling, all i know is that i was in my catholic chaplain's office pouring my eyes out because of the feeling. Its like the hairs of your back being raised. Its scary and at the same time, very eye-opening. So i attended the conference, as my pastor recommended, to make sure it was genuine or not.

When I attended, i met a good friend, who was then a 1st year in collegiate seminary. Can you imagine, a boy by the age of 18, already in the seminary? I asked him, "how do you know it was the calling? when did you receive it?"

His response was, "always have had it since i was boy."

It really is scary you know, for me, looking at it in hindsight. To be called, or think to you were called? By the Holy Spirit to a sheppard of the flock. I thank the Lord i made the right decision.

Surely, I am not worthy to have been a priest. Like all of you, am a wretched sinner.

The priesthood is truly, the ultimate sacrifice.

A man not only gives his body, but his soul to Christ. Soley to Christ.

The priesthood is incomparable. And it is a sacred position. Not meant for those who are not fully discerned to its calling.

My friend Lorenz,

Other relgious sect believed that Jesus has brothers and our religion taught us He is the only Son.
While our belief in God is not be debated, but to be lived well in His Will, however, I need your able assistance. Thanks

Mr. Laganson,

There will always be people that will try to pick and dig into the what ifs in scripture, but for us, it is best to retain the yolk of the Word. Even if Christ Jesus had brothers and sisters by blood (just for sake of argument), that still does not change His Role in Salvation History.

If Christ Our Lord had mortal brothers and sisters, a product of the union between Blessed Virgina Mary and her spouse, Joseph, that still does not change Christ's role.

Christ our Lord was the only begotten Son of the ETERNAL, the ONE, and LIVING God.
The Mighty and Everlasting Father.

Eternally begotten of the Father, inseparable, and at the same time, One in the Father. From the Father, and the Son, comes the Holy Spirit.

We need to remember that Christ, is the physical manifestation of the Lord God. GOD in the flesh. For the main reason to save the world. He came down from Heaven to earth to share in our humanity, he died for our sins, so that we, his children, could also partake of his divinity, and that is in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Our great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents that lived some 5-6 centuries ago, though they are no more, their memory lost. They are still here.

Genetically, they are externalized in our chromosome. The thousands of genetic codes in the chromosome codes for a particular gene, passed on by one's ancient ancestors.

In Genetics Maxim, organismally, we all die. But genetically, immortality is plausible.

So long as one's gene seed is continued, a man or a woman will never truly die. He or she, genetically, lives on in his or her child, grandchild, great-grandchild, etc etc.

Sing victory, everlasting.
#39234
Mr. Daray,

We must practice discernment when in discussing this topic. To simply debase the Church and utilize a citation from an Evangelical site which is antagonistic to the RCC is unfair.

Again, we must practice discernment.

All these examples of of charges that you posted, have been addressed already in the Great Reformation of the 16th century, and yet again in following papal addresses, and the 2nd Vatican Council.

This notion of Sola Scriptural is not something that the RCC holds true. As Scripture and Tradition is mandated.

Let us stick to the topic, I could also infer the RCC's notion on anathema of some heretical church groups in this day of age. But again, that is left to man's free will.

so let me get this straight
say now you loved me all along?
what made you hesitate
to tell me with words what you really feel
i can see it in your eyes you mean all of what you say
i remember so long ago, see i felt that same way
now we both have separate lives and lovers (and lovers)
insignificantly enough we both have significant others

only time will tell
time will turn and tell

we are who we were when
could've been lovers but at least you're still my day late friend
we are who
we are who we were when
who knew what we know now
could've been more but at least you're still my day late friend
we are who
we are who we were when

but thoughts they change and times they rearrange i don't know who you are anymore
loves come and go and this i know i'm not who you recall anymore
but i must confess you're so much more then i remember
can't help but entertain these thoughts
thoughts of us together

we are who we were when
could've been lovers but at least you're still my day late friend
we are who
we are who we were when
who knew what we know now
could've been more but at least you're still my day late friend
we are who
we are who we were when

my day late friend

so let me get this straight
all these years and you were no where to be found
and now you want me for your own
but you're a day late and my love, she's still renowned
we are who we were when
could've been lovers but at least you're still my day late friend
we are who
we are who we were when
who knew what we know now
could've been more but at least you're still my day late friend
we are who
we are who we were when

Answer:

One needs not glorify himself or herself. What ever success he or she gains in this life, he or she should offer praise to GOD THE FATHER!

Offer praise to God The Father, as sacrifice for your success. For it was by HIS GRACE that one was able to succeed, or triumph over a course, a situation, studies, work etc.

Who will rule and inherit the earth?

Easy. Simple.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, WHO IS LORD! said, "

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
6
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,  for they will be satisfied.
7
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely).
12
10 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13
"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14
You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.

-MATHEW 5: 1-14

So?

Be meek, be humble, and the Lord will glorify you. Even if those who think and talk ill about you usher their lies, their wicked tongue and their scheming nature.

REJOICE!

Because the LORD GOD is not blind, nor is he deaf, nor is he numb to actions of men and women (both).

Bless those who say ill of you, and pray for them. For they need it.

In the end, that is what counts. Not wealth, not arrogant tone, not beauty or fading aspects.

What is beauty? It lasts what? 1-2 decades? Can beauty save you from judgement of God?

Can beauty and outward appearance preclude you to entrance in to the KINGDOM of HEAVEN?

No.

Faith! Action! And decency!

Satan was beautiful, too, may I remind you all.

And his arrogance and PRIDE was the reason for his MIGHTY and AGONIZING Fall!

May the LORD GOD REBUKE him!

AMEN!
The peace and love of Christ Jesus be with all of you!
I Pray!

God Bless, mo tanan, igsoon nako sa JESU CHRISTO.

GIVE COMMENTS OF THESE TWO VERSIONS.

Nuns and priests are Catholic, not Christians. The Catholic church does not allow its priests to marry. Supposedly this is because the Catholic church believes that Peter, allegedly the first "priest" did not marry. But the Bible makes at least two references to Peter's wife. See 1 Corinthians 9:5 (which uses Peter's Greek name "Cephas") and Matthew 8:14 (which references Peter's mother in-law).

Christian pastors can marry and, in fact, are encouraged to marry, so they can teach the congregation on issues related to marriage and parenting. Something Catholic priests can't really do a good job at having no first hand experience in these matters.

Mr. Daray,

Catholics are Christian. The word 'Christian' in the Greek root "Kristos" means 'Christ', the 'annointed one'. Jesus The Christ.

The old greek word Kristosin/ Kristosan means 'Christian'.

Later on when Christianity spread to Rome, the word 'Krostisin' was changed to the latin Christo/ Cristo. And the religion was regarded as 'Cristianum, or Christosanum'.

In Spanish it is regarded as 'Cristiano, Cristianisimo'. In english, it is simplified as 'CHRISTIAN'

What does that mean? To be Christian?

Simple ra ni.

Christian is a follower of Christ A BELIEVER of Christ.

Roman Catholics are believers of CHRIST. Anyone can be catholic. Catholic in Latin means "UNIVERSAL" or "ALL". In sacred scripture and in christian historiagraphy, the references of the Old Church Fathers and the 'Church' was the same Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church is THE First Christian Church.

From the Catholic Church, all christian denominations would come about. Either it be conservative orthodoxy, to anglican, to more simple lutheran, episcopalian to modern simplified baptist, methodist, 7th day adventist etc.

Catholic IS Christian. Christian IS Catholic.

The 7 sacraments of the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH preach of Christ. Baptized in Christ, Purified in Christ, read the word of Christ, adore the body and blood of Christ. Adoration of Christ's sufferings on the cross, his birth, his resurrection.

I just had to correct that misinterpretation. As I think it is dangerous to differentiate it.

I’m curious about these two civilizations, were these documented that there are two kind of civilizations?, so that we can assure that this civilization where we are present is belong to modern civilization or just only assuming.

Also, I would like to know when the ancient civilization was ended and when the modern civilization was started because I heard from many people who said that we are now in modern civilization.

And, when will be the civilization next to modern civilization?, if ever it has.

Datu, you know whats intesting?

During the dark ages, many writers and contemporaries wished they were back in the classical age. :)

Interesting no?

One of the mistakes commited by historians is the comparison of historical epochs, and worst is judging them based on present criteria.

We cannot simply compare the ancient and the modern civilization precisely because the current civilization is a product of years and centuries of development stemming out from the ancient era.

Even so, historical research and many historians do compare ancient civilizations to classical, contemporary, to modern.

Depends on the writer, the historian, and of course the reader.

Everyone has varying opinions.

Sometime ago, my husband handed me a book entitled Child of Two Worlds, written by an African, R. Mugo Gatheru. He told me the book was used in school to learn more about the Kikuyu tribe of Kenya.  I got hooked to reading the book and learned a lot.  I noted some similarities of our culture and theirs.  But what drawn me to this book and yes, to the author is his perseverance to succeed, no matter what hurdles he had to go through in achieving his dream.  The Dream of the Warrior, he called it in one of the chapters of the book.  He said something like, education would free his nation from slavery, their nation at that time was being colonized by the British.

The book, Child of Two Worlds, originally published in 1964 in London.

Last Satuday, August 9, I got the chance to meet him.  It was indeed an honor meeting Bwana (Mr. in Swahili) Mugo Gatheru at his residence.  He has been based here in Sacramento and now a retired professor at the California State University where he taught History of Africa and Middle East from 1969 to 2002.  Needless to say, he was such an intelligent man!  We discussed the book Child of Two Worlds and it was fun!  I asked him for an autograph in my book and he graciously did.  Not only that, he gave me two more books!

Gift from the Author.

Before we left, I asked for a picture with him and his vibrant and super nice wife, Dolores.

Interesting book, Ate Ging.

I've read some works by His Eminence, Desmond Tutu of South Africa. The notion of 'UBUNTU' or forgiveness/reconciliation between ethnic South African blacks (Zulu, Swazi etc) with the white Afrikans and British.

Its interesting, its always interesting to read works by peoples during post-independence.

I'll definitely take a look into this book.

You know what is interesting?

Most of Spain's Foreign Legionaries were Filipino :)

In the mid half of the 19th century, Spain's expeditions to Morocco as well as in the Canaries were aided by Filipino soldiers that served in His Royal Spanish Majesty's Guardia Civil.

Filipinos joined the ranks of Spanish cavalry, in overruning forts. Filipino soldiers being sent to subdue islamic separatists in Morocco.

Even in Cuba, most of the Spanish Army that was stationed in Cuba, there were battallions that were composed of Filipino soldiers and officers that served in the Royal Guardia Civil.

Did you guys know that?

Even in the PENINSULAR WAR, thousands of Filipino soldiers were conscripted into the Spanish Army to support operations.

So loyal were the Filipinos to the Spaniards that a general of the Spanish Army once opined to the Spanish King, "Your Majesty, the retention of the colonies is due to the feasability of the Filipino soldier. 100 Filipino soldiers of the guardia civil under the command of Spanish officer is equivalent to any other foreign force."

Out of Spain's many colonies, Only the Philippines remained loyal to Spain the longest. 400 years. Half a millenia.

ADDENDUM:

I have discussed this before with many other colleagues and studied the military campaigns of the French and the Spanish in the 1795 war with Spain and France, and later on in 1806.

The defeat of Spain to the French, though was of tacitical precision, was unfair consiering the rules of engagement of the day.

First of all, when the French forces advanced, they sent a force of some 50,000 man strong with reserve units.

Spain at this time, was a mighty empire, owning and ruling over 1/5th of the world's landmass (Southwestern North American, Central America, South America, Philippines, Guam, Marianas, Pacific islands, and parts of India, parts of southern Italy).

Due to their global interests and expansion, Spain's 1 million-man army was pitifully spread around the world. She had divisions in Mexico, in Peru, In Argentina, in Philippines. The Spanish Army was unprepared for the French invasion, and was only able to muster no more than 25,000 man strong force to meet the French threat. By the time the Spanish forces were able to send reinforcements, Madrid had already fallen to French forces, which overwhelmed the Spanish forces due to shear numerical superiority.

Joseph, who was the brother of Napoleon, was placed on the Royal Spanish Throne, to the unpopularity of the Spanish Catholic Church, to the masses and to the military. When news spread to Spain's American Colonies of this dynamic effect, the people were in revolt. The landed aristocracy in the Viceroyalties of Nueva Espana, La Plata y Peru were in revolt. Thus beginning the PENINSULAR WAR.

The reason why the Latin American colonies revolted was because they were loyal to the King Fenando VII, and the old monarchical system. After Joseph was abdicated, and the restablishment of normalcy, with King Fernando VII taking the throne again. The effect was already established.

After the 7 years of occupation from the French, Spain was in economic turmoil, and its once massive military, was reduced to a mere fraction. Spain, immediately tried to reclaim its colonies in the Name of the King of Spain. To the surprise of the Spanish, they were met with hostility and indignation by the Latin Americans. The Latin Americans, who were independent for some time and liked the notion of self-rule, refused to offer fealty to the Spanish.

Spain, in anger, unleashed its anger to its colonies by waging a war of re-conquest. Hence called the PENINSULAR WAR. Spain was unable to suppress the massive revolutions, many of its armies defecting to the side of the insurrectionists.

Finally in 1820, Spain realized the futility of its actions, acquiesced.

The expedience of the fall of the Spanish Empire, was totally in effect a result of the French Revolution. Undoubtedly.

Adding to that,

I think that the most important epochial transition in Western History would be the 'twin' revolutions:

1. The American Revolution
2. The French Revolution

Why is this? What did it lead to? What were the effects?

First, and foremost, these two politico-milita phenomenons forever changed the atmosphere and environment of Western political and cultural ideologues. The severance of the American colonies from the Mother Country, The British Empire, challenged the very notion of absolute control of the mother country to the colony; thereby challenging the notion that the mother country was prime and that the sole role of the colony was to support and supplement the mother country; not vice versa. We observe the abuses of political and human rights of many Americans by British over-taxation, quartering, taxation without representation, occupation of ships, forced husbrandry, limitation of expansion in the west, etc. (there is a continuum of grievances). The fact that America declared independence from Britain, challenged the supremity of the the British Monarchy (King George the III) and His Majesty's Parliament. Britain sent out its military to put down the American revolution (insurrectionists, as we were called), but were defeated by the strategic allinace between America and France. General Lord Cornwallis offering his sword to surrender in 1781 in the Battle of Yorktown forever changed the climate of the West.

As you see, France was still an absolute monarchy, under the rule of King Louis XVI, and after the American Revolution, the very idealism of constitutional rights, universal human rights, as well as the classical concepts of The Great Enlightenment were stressed. Louis XVI's inability to tackle the political dynamics of the day was the prerequisite for the storming of the Bastille and the eruption of the French Revolution.

The french revolution is by far the most important political dynamic that occurred the West. Its similar to the American counterpart, but far more extreme and on another level.

America merely established a republic and removal of monarchical government, but retained the provincial level of governance and built upon that aspect. The 'states' merely took over of the Colony-Province. Governors remained in power, the landed aristocracy retained their land, power, and slaves. And with that, influence in Washington. (until 1861, of course ;)  )

France was different. France completely and utterly extinguished the Monarchy. The execution of The king, the queen, and the landed noble aristocracy (barons, baroness, marquies, count, countesses etc).

Then during the reign of Napoleon, though he declared himself Emperor of the French, he still retained and exported the revolutionary ideals. He defeated the Spanish Empire and forcibly abdicated the Spanish King (of the Bourbon Dynasty) for his brother, Joseph. And made Spain adopt revolutionary ideals that decentralized and weakened the governmental system of Spain.

This political manifesto in Spain was the DIRECT cause of the weakening of Mother-Country to colony, thereby leading to the revolution of Spain's Latin American colonies. The reason for this is becaue the colonies remained loyal to King Fernando VII, and protested the usurper, Joseph (who was the brother of Napoleon).

France's invasion of Austria-Hungary was complete. Austrian-Hungarian forces were unable to defeat the French in the battlefield, as a result, the Austrians became a client state of the French, and the the absolute monarchy in Austria was weakened, leading to further developments of republicanism and democratic ideals in that country later on.

The same for the Prussian Empire, the same for Russia etc etc.

Basically, the French Revolution represents a new chapter in Western/European climate. The end of the centuries-old Absolute Monarchy and the rise of the the Republic/ Constitutionalism, and later on: Marxism/Communism.

Question:
QuoteHi, i just read France's Novel and i need to write a paper on this novel on a historical aspect, instead of a literary one, which i am having trouble with. I was wondering if you could help me. the questions have already been asked to you:
How does France explore this attempt to create a new world and new selves in The Gods Will Have Blood? Does he see this as a good or bad thing?
or
How does France explain the Terror and its eventual end?

My Answer:

The question you asked, "how does france explore this attempt to create a new world and new selves in TGWHB? Is this in a positive light or a negative?

THAT is an interesting question because it precludes us to make an objective analysis on the novel, so to say, our own opinion on the matter. Some will say that France portrayed the revolution as a means to liberation in the basis of French ideologue of the day, "Liberte', Fraternite et Egalite'".

The Reign of Terror, can be seen as being necessary to completely root out the old governmental system, literally meaning the execution of the Capet-based French Monarchy and the landed aristocracy.

Only through revolution could the new French Republic have been established, else, other aristocratic powers would have intervened in wars to re-establish the monarchical system, which of course is what happened. Remember? The French war with Hapsburg Empire (Austria-Hungarian Empire) because Marine Antoinette was a princess of the Hapsburgian court. Spain, Prussia, And Austria all declared war on the fledgling French Republic for just that reason: To re-supplant the monarchy in France. And to put down the rebellion, else it owuld spread like a wildfire throughout Europe.

France's novel points out just that necessity. To rid of the monarchy and aristocracy before foreign powers had the chance to supplant them back into power.

The 'gods' so to say merely represents the French Revolution and its supporters. French Republicans.

Terror is represented as a 'means' to an end. In order for a true Republic to have been established in France, as like the American Colonies, it was necessity to completely sever the Monarchical threat. Only then, ...and after that...was peace realized.

But then again, if you read contemporary modern history, that just doesn't happen. Napoleon betrays that notion of Republicanism by carving a French Empire and declaring himself as 'Emperor' of the French. And marrying a wife that was of royal blood line (of hapsburg decent). lol.

In this case, power does corrupt. Absolutely. (This of course follows the major rule of Lord Acton's quote)

The Chinese like Philippines because they can practice their Chinese in the Philippines.

And, if the Chinese want to see European architecture, and culture, they need not leave Asia. Philippines is already the most Europeanized nation in all of Asia-Pacific.

This reminds me of our cultural show we had in Allegheny College back in 2004.

We had Filipino dancers that danced the Jota De Manila. And other asian-Americans (japanese, chinese, korean, cambodian and vietnamese) were amazed to see the 'unique' Filipno dances.

Why? Because our dances are so European. Very Spanish.

It made me smile.
