this usual doublespeak of an official statement from the u.s. embassy in manila is obvious.  that's the language of diplomacy.  say one thing officially, do something else as covertly as possible.  one must never doubt that the u.s. won't allow china to dominate these busy sea lanes, which would make it so if china succeeds in claiming the whole spratlys archipelago (i.e., no resistance from all other claimants).  the u.s. will help the philippines not because it loves our country but because it has to protect its own interests.

Kinasaktuhan, hagit panilngan. Ihatag nalang diay nang Spratly sa China aron way samok.

mas lisod, raqz.  no country in the world will ever give up a territory that easily.  not only is territorial integrity at stake but national pride as well.  an example is falklands, which is british and very far away from britain.  in the 1980s argentina and britain went to war over this very small territory where there are more sheep than people.

1.  wa epek.  the philippine market won't matter much because that country has the whole world as its market.

2.  my experience karong panahona:  bisag u.s. products akong paliton, chances are made in china gihapon.  u.s. tuod ang manufacturing company, pero ang labor china gihapon.  it is the world's factory, from the tourist souvenir of the knights of the round table in king arthur's court in england to venetian lace.  there's no escaping "made in china".

3.  barato ang gikan sa china, di malalis tungod kay barato ang ilang labor cost.  di ko mosukol ug palit ug barbie doll nga made in the u.s. kay four figures ang presyo.  ang made in china 98 pesos ra, makapalit pa kog 10 ka buok for our little girl nga di ko hapdosan kay iyang gipamotlan tanan ug buhok.

4.  gapasiklab ra nang gobernadora.  may puruhan nga ang iyang electric fans made in china.

The Oscar-winning actor went on a Tweeting spree hitting out at male circumcision late Thursday night/early Friday morning, making clear his feelings on foreskin and those who would remove it from a newborn baby.

"Circumcision is barbaric and stupid.  Who are you to correct nature?  Is it real that GOD requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect," he said to begin his rant.

After a number of retweets of supportive fans and responses to those critical of his position -- including one in which he said, "Hygenic?  Why don't you sew up your ass then?" -- Crowe reached out to his "Jewish friends," asking them to reject their long tradition of ceremonial circumcision.

The publicity from Tama's appointment led to an increase in passengers by 17% for that month as compared to January 2006; ridership statistics for March 2007 showed a 10% increase over the previous financial year.

A study has estimated that the publicity surrounding Tama has contributed 1.1 billion Yen to the local economy.  In January 2008, Tama was promoted to "super station master" in a ceremony attended by the president of the company and the mayor; as a result of her promotion, she is "the only female in a managerial position" in the company.  Her new position has an "office"â€"a converted ticket booth containing a litter box.

In January 2010, railway officials promoted Tama to the post of "Operating Officer" in recognition of her contribution to expanding the customer base. Tama will maintain the stationmaster's job while taking over the new job, and is the first cat to become an executive of a railroad corporation.

Her staff consisted of two feline assistant stationmasters, Chibi (born May 12, 2000) and an orange tabby cat named Miiko (October 3, 1998 - July 20, 2009).  Now only Chibi remains.

Tama appeared in a documentary about cats titled La Voie du chat in French and Katzenlektionen in German by Italian filmmaker Myriam Tonelotto, broadcast on European TV channel ARTE in April 2009.

Kishigawa Line announced that it was releasing a new "Tama Densha" (Tama railcar/train) train that was customized with cartoon depictions of Tama.  It began running in spring 2009.

Tama wears a decoration of "Wakayama de knight" (a pun, "It got to be Wakayama" in Japanese) given by Governor of Wakayama

Tama (born April 29, 1999) is a calico cat who is the station master and operating officer at Kishi Station in Kinokawa, Wakayama, Japan.

In April 2006, the Wakayama Electric Railway converted all stations on the Kishigawa Line from manned to unmanned in an effort to cut costs.  Station masters were selected from employees of local businesses near each station.  For Kishi station, Toshiko Koyama, the neighborhood grocer, was selected as station master.  Koyama had adopted Tama and other stray cats, and he fed them at the station.

In January 2007, railway officials decided to officially name Tama the station master.  As station master her primary duty is to greet passengers.  The position comes with a stationmaster's hat; in lieu of a salary, the railway provides Tama with free cat food.

PHOTO: Anthony Weiner’s Vintage Cosmo Spread

by Verena von Pfetten | 2:53 pm, June 7th, 2011

In hilarious, perhaps fortuitous, and decidedly appropriate news, New York State Representative Anthony Weiner posed for Cosmopolitan as a newbie politician some time around 1996.

The glossy listed the then 31-year-old Weiner as one of their “101 Gorgeous Real Life Bachelors,” and even peppered him with a few questions. A few excerpts:

First Lady: “Someone smarter than me. I want to be sucked back into the throes of love â€" isn’t that what everybody really wants?

On a day off, you’d catch me… “I hate days off, but I guess I’d try on clothes I couldn’t afford.

Favorite Cartoon Character: Newt Gingrich, for obvious reasons.

There are so many ironies to point out, including the fact that his pasttime once involved putting clothing on and that his entry is oh-so-sadly titled, “The Future President?”

The full spread is below.

The Original Morris the Cat was a Rescue

There have been several tabby tomcats that have already portrayed Morris over the years in television commercials, but the original Morris was first called ‘Lucky’, and was from the Hinsdale Humane Society Animal Shelter in Lombard, Illinois.  He was discovered in 1968 by Bob Martwick, who was an animal handler and an employee of the Leo Burnett Advertising Agency. Before being rescued, the original Morris the Cat was said to be scheduled to be euthanized in the shelter, 20 minutes prior to being discovered.  Once he gained popularity through the successful commercials, he was even assigned guards to protect him from being catnapped.

Morris, the Clark Gable of Cats

Morris the Cat (voiced by John Erwin) is the advertising mascot for 9Lives brand cat food, appearing on its packaging and in many of its television commercials.  A large orange tabby tom, he is "the world's most finicky cat", and prefers only 9Lives brand, making this preference clear by means of humorously sardonic voice-over comments when offered other brands.  Every can of 9Lives features Morris's "signature".

Morris has appeared in other media over the years. He debuted in the Robert Altman film The Long Goodbye (film) with Elliott Gould, and starred in the movie Shamus with Burt Reynolds and Dyan Cannon in 1973.  He also appears as a "spokescat" promoting responsible pet ownership, pet health and pet adoptions through animal shelters.  To this end, he has "authored" three books: The Morris Approach, The Morris Method and The Morris Prescription.

In This Recession, Even a Police Dog Got Laid Off

By: Everett Rosenfeld
Time Magazine Newsfeed, 08 June 2011

A harsh economic climate has negatively affected cities and municipal services across the country. But the downturn hit home for a five-year-old German Shepherd named Daro earlier this month.

Daro, a police dog for the East Haven Police Department in Connecticut, was forcibly retired after the town council cut his budget. As the only police dog in the EHPD, Daro's early retirement has angered the town's police union and some citizens, according to the New Haven Register.

“My concern is why it's not being funded anymore,” Sgt. John Miller, police union president told the Register. “It's a valuable tool. It's been a proven success ... It's a valuable tool for police work these days.”

i never said i was wiser than hubag. oh no, i'm just a simple guy sharing a view (that sai baba was a fraud, not a god, and a sexual deviant). :)

i have no qualms with you isles. peace.

well taken.  peace too.  we can disagree here, we could even be obnoxious to each other and shoot ourselves in the foot, but never should it veer away from the fact that we're all friends here first and foremost.

Hmm, dementia de pandaka desesperada...

first, she pardoned erap; while the guy was falling from grace her people were then reportedly fielded to gather support for her takeover.  that's politics.  she expects a similar pardon once she had left office.  and now she wants lnb for marcos.  where else would she want to be buried, by the way?

now i know why you like latin.  i like latin too and i will always gravitate towards a latin mass when there's one.  i was lucky i grew up in a home where there were latin books.  (two elder brothers were seminarians who loved to explain the language to me.)  i just am not comfortable about joining groups within our church.

anyways, just this morning i told the banana republic my seeming regret over the "disappearance" of latin in our regular masses.  (i was pissed off that the credo, the our father, and prayer of the faithful were in tagalog, that's why.)  latin could have been one of the symbols of worldwide catholic unity, i said, just as islam uses arabic universally.  his answer?  arabic has an advantage because it is still alive and widely spoken while latin is a dead language.

wow!  too bad hubag is no longer online from the looks of it.

fortunately, your very own obstinacy in your relative youth (an age which you so often point out with pride as if it's a badge of honor) coupled with your narcissism, paterculus, and your intellectual pretensions are what are irrefutable in this forum.

an old learned fool can have the leisure of indirection and his time will never be wasted while a relatively young fool who still has a lot to learn is wasting his time pretending otherwise.  worse, in reality that young fool is actually an idiot.

hypothetically, let's say i have a friend who's dying of breast cancer and i know that her husband is seeing someone else.  never will i tell my friend about her husband's infidelity.  it's between her husband and his god.  as for my friend whose days are numbered, why should i add to her pains?  i will lie to her straight-faced if she asked me where her husband goes at certain times.

There is no integrity in a liar.

only if he violated someone else's rights, thus it is dangerous to talk in absolutes.

one's integrity is not diminished if he lied to a hold-upper that he doesn't have money.  (he had the sense to put his money in the socks that he's wearing.)

one's integrity is amplified if he lied to a posse or death squad where their next victim is hidden.  (he knows because he himself hid the potential victim in their attic.)

wow!  our asean neighbors can really be rude with us filipinos as i've experienced myself.  but then, even our own immigration officers can be just as rude with us.  and they shout.  at least, in other international airports, there's a room where questionable incoming passengers are brought for privacy.  in our country i've seen more than one foreigner (fellow asians, not whites) shouted down publicly.  we have a long way to go, too.

to each his own comfort zone in one's faith, so to speak.  my neo friend understood very well that the only two reasons for my resistance against being part of them is that when it comes to the practice of one's faith i abhor comparisons and that i'm not much of a joiner of anything.

as the revival of faith is the neo's reason for being, so are many other groups saying as much.  there is also this very active group that's going back to the latin mass of pre-vatican 2 vintage that was started by a french bishop.
