DILG won’t punish Sara Duterte
By DJ Yap
Philippine Daily Inquirer
6:40 pm | Friday, July 15th, 2011

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo said Friday his department’s recommendations to Malacañang on the case of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who repeatedly punched a sheriff early this month would not include sanctions.

He noted that no formal complaint was ever filed against Duterte; thus, the Department of Interior and Local Government could not actually punish the mayor, who voluntarily went on a five-day leave after the controversy made headlines.

Instead, Robredo said the recommendations would not only touch on Duterte’s case but would be a general guide on how local government officials should conduct themselves in similar situations as Duterte found herself in.

Robredo told reporters that the DILG fact-finding team had already finished its report on the subject, but he sent it back to the legal service because it was missing certain details.

He said the DILG would submit on Monday or Tuesday its recommendations to Malacañang, which would ultimately decide on Duterte’s case.

An incensed Duterte was captured by TV news cameras punching sheriff Abe Andres after the latter insisted on implementing a court order to demolish shanties in Agdao district, despite her request to hold it off for two hours.

Andres did not file charges and instead apologized to the mayor.

the weapons of mass distraction (wmd with a tasty difference)

The pie in question can include a variety of messy substances, usually whipped cream, custard, non-dairy dessert topping or simply shaving foam, placed in a pie tin or sometimes simply piled onto a paper plate.

One additional option is allowing the person who has purchased or won the opportunity to use the pie to also fill it, usually with a variety of extremely messy dessert toppings: chocolate, cherries, caramel sauce, strawberry sauce, etc.  Plastic bags for the victim to protect their clothing and hair are optional.  Witnesses standing too close to the victim(s) may be splattered.

CREAM PIE

A cream pie is a type of pie filled with a rich custard or pudding that is made from milk, cream, flour, and eggs.  It can come in many forms, including vanilla, lemon, lime, peanut butter, banana, coconut, and chocolate. A constant feature of all cream pies is the whipped cream topping.  The custard filling is related to the French crème patissière which is a key component of various French cakes and tarts.

CUSTARD PIE

A custard pie is any type of uncooked custard mixture added to an uncooked or partially cooked crust and baked together.  In North America, custard pie commonly refers to a plain mixture of milk, eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla extract and sometimes nutmeg combined with a pie crust.  It is distinctly different from a cream pie, which contains cooked custard poured into a cooled, precooked crust.  Some common custard pies include cheesecake, pumpkin pie, lemon meringue, and pecan pie.  True custard is defined as a liquid thickened with eggs.  Due to the often large number of whole eggs in custard pie it is a very rich pie.

apparently the friendship of the former president and our bishop from loon is close enough that he can express what he needs.  i would have done the same if i were in his place.  his 'lapse in judgment' was in writing it down; it seemed as if it was beyond him that a mere letter of request in the land of crocodiles could come back to haunt him.

if we must focus on the basics of this whole soap opera, it is the source of funds used for the gifts that's in question, not the receivers who ended up as the collateral damage.

the whole thing became embarrassing only because of the trial by publicity and how it was treated by the media.  there was condemnation of impropriety even before the process and constitutionality of the whole exercise were clear.

as for the gifts being "in exchange for something" from a politician like our former lady president, let's leave that to their consciences and not to our imagination.  i'll hazard though that the catholic church doesn't have much in terms of exchange (a promise of salvation from the fires of hell?  unthinkable.), unlike the iglesia ni cristo that promises block voting.

embarrassing?  yes.  the reasons for getting embarrassed?  non-existent until whipped up, out of proportion.

Followers

Godin, who uses the pseudonym "Georges Le Gloupier" has also inspired an unknown number of followers around the world, who now regularly provide him with details about the whereabouts of various important potential targets.

Philosophy

Godin insists his group is non-violent and is careful to use only what he calls a "tarte classique", filled with whipped cream and perhaps a little chocolate in soft sponge cake. He says his humor can be traced back through Jerry Lewis, Wile E. Coyote, the Marx Brothers and yippies like Abbie Hoffman.[citation needed]

Godin is inspired (for instance in his Anthologie de la subversion carabinée (1989)) by the works of the Utopian philosophers Tommaso Campanella (Civitas Solis) and Charles Fourier (La Phalange, Le Phalanstère). His ideal society is one where there is no struggle for power or money and where everybody can live in a state of perfect happiness.[citation needed] He is also an admirer of the anarchist Ravachol without approving his violence, sentiment which inspired him to his pie-attacks.

Godin has a particularly colorful and expressive way of expressing himself, using terms like for instance "tempêtes patissières" (pastry storm) to describe his pieing.

The Entarteur

Noël Godin (born 13 September 1945) is a Belgian writer, critic, actor and notorious cream pie flinger or entarteur.  Godin gained global attention in 1998 when his group ambushed Microsoft CEO Bill Gates in Brussels, pelting the software magnate with cream pies. After bombarding Gates, Godin allegedly said, "My work is done here."

Ideals

Godin claims his goal has long been to "entarte" as many people like Gates as possible - people he feels are particularly self-important and lacking a sense of humor.  Godin told The New York Times he chooses "to function in the service of the capitalist status quo, without really using his intelligence or his imagination."  He says his sworn enemies are "authority, depressing laws, the return of the moral order, nuclear power, any form of political power."

Since 1969, when Godin planted a cream pie on the face of the French novelist Marguerite Duras, he has cream-pied dozens more, including choreographer Maurice Béjart, France's best-known television anchorman Patrick Poivre d'Arvor, French president Nicolas Sarkozy and film maker Jean-Luc Godard.

A regular target is French philosopher, socialite and writer Bernard-Henri Lévy. After one attack, in 1985, an enraged Levy was filmed standing over Godin snarling "Get up, or I'll kick your head in".

'Pastafarian' wins religious freedom right to wear pasta strainer for driving license

By Matthew Day, Warsaw, 13 Jul 2011

An Austrian has won the right to be photographed wearing a pasta strainer for his driving license on grounds of religious freedom.

Niko Alm announced the decision on his blog saying that after three years of struggle a psychologist had concluded that he is fit to drive and so he could wear the kitchen implement for the official picture.

A self-styled "pastafarian", Mr Alm said he belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which lampoons religion. "Today I was able to get my new driving license, and in it you can clearly see that I'm wearing a colander on my head to demonstrate my allegiance to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster," Mr Alm wrote in his blog.

"My headwear has now been recognized by the Republic of Austria."

The spaghetti church was founded in 2005 in opposition to the pressure on the Kansas school board in the United States to teach the theory of intelligent design in biology class as an alternative to evolution, and since then it has engaged in a light-hearted campaign against religion.

Key to the beliefs of pastafarians is that the world was created by the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but owing to the monster being inebriated at the time of creation, it has a flawed design.

Naked Man Challenges Pamplona Bull
Sunday, July 10, 2011

Daily Mail Flying high: The streaker was tossed up into the air by a young calf during the suelta de vaquillas

KOMPAS.com - He might have been high on adrenaline and low on sleep - but it was no excuse for this naked bull-runner who was detained by police shortly after being thrown into the air by a young calf.

He joined thousands of thrill-seekers to run with the bulls on a crowded fourth day at the San Fermin festival in Pamplona yesterday.  Ten people were injured and no one was gored.

But the now infamous streaker, who was tossed up into the air by a young calf in the bullring after the running, was arrested for causing a 'public disturbance'.  Several runners tripped, fell and were trampled as crowds raced alongside the massive bulls of the famous Miura breeding estate, founded in 1849.

The Sunday run is usually the biggest of the eight that take place annually and is particularly favoured by aficionados because it traditionally features Miuras, renowned as Spain’s largest fighting bulls.

Navarra Hospital reported in a statement that 10 people received treatment for minor injuries including arm and head trauma.  Nine of them - all Spaniards of ages ranging from 19 to 41 years old - were kept in for observation.

The naked bull-runner suffered minor bruising to his face.  Two days ago a 24 year-old Australian tourist was gored in the thigh by a bull, opening an artery, and is in a serious condition in hospital.

Pamplona experts at state television TVE said around 3,500 people had run with the bulls on Sunday. One runner slipped and fell in front of the bunched herd and was trampled near the beginning, a second one tripped close to the halfway point and was seen to be hit by several flying hooves, and a small group jostled each other and hit the cobblestones as the bulls neared the bullring.

The run covers 928 yards (850 meters) from an enclosure just outside Pamplona’s medieval stone wall, where the pedigree animals spend the night, to the downtown bullring where fights known as 'corridas' take place each afternoon of the festival in honor of the city’s patron saint.

Sunday’s run was quick at 2 minutes, 29 seconds and would have finished even sooner but for one straggler that looked around and charged at several herders in the ring before being guided into a corral.

The largest Miura was a black specimen called Macareno that weighed 695 kilograms (1,532 pounds) while the lightest tipped the scales at a mere 540 kilograms (1,190 pounds), the games and spectacles branch of Navarre regional police said in a statement.

Despite the animals’ size and musclebound appearance, experts admire Miuras for their explosive acceleration, stamina and grace, characteristics that inspired legendary Italian car maker the late Ferruccio Lamborghini to name one of his iconic sports cars after the breed.

Dentists Treat Gorilla With Toothache From San Francisco Zoo

7/13/11

They say that an 800-pound gorilla can sit anywhere he wants. But when he's got a toothache, there's only one place he can go -- into the dentist's chair.

Oscar Jonsey, a 30-year-old lowlands gorilla from the San Francisco Zoo, was knocked out while two dentists performed a three-hour procedure to save an abscessed tooth, the San Francisco Examiner reported.

This was the second trip to the dentist's office in the past year for the ailing ape, also known as O.J. Last year poor O.J. had to get a root canal too, a zoo spokeswoman told The Huffington Post.

The silverback gorilla was anesthetized in his pen and brought to the zoo's veterinary hospital where dentist Dan Mairani and endodontist Steve Holifield, who usually handle humans, treated O.J.'s canine tooth.

"We use quite a few human doctor specialists with animals, especially the great apes because of their close connection to humans," zoo spokeswoman Lora Lamarca told The HuffPost. "They love to do it."

Inspiration & Hope / The 7 Blunders of the World
July 13, 2011, 02:34:12 PM
if there is such a thing as the seven wonders of the world, apropos there's also such a thing as these seven blunders of the world:

    Wealth without work.

    Pleasure without conscience.

    Knowledge without character.

    Commerce without morality.

    Science without humanity.

    Worship without sacrifice.

    Politics without principle.

The Seven Blunders of the World is a list that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi gave to his grandson Arun Gandhi, written on a piece of paper, on their final day together, shortly before his assassination.

nakaboto na ko pero you need to select other 6 pa na places aside from the PPUR. sakto ba tong ahong gihimo? mao man puy required. ???

a review of presidential proclamation 182 shows nga wa man hinoon mo-specify nga ang ppur rang usa ang botaran o pito bay pilion (kay 7 wonders man kaha).  kun magminaro gyod hinoon ta parehag election sa ato, pananglit usa ra ka konsehal ang botaran aron di madugangan ug boto ang uban, ambot lang kaha kun mahimo ba.  mosunod na lang ta sa patakaran sa n7wn kun di mahimo nga usa ray botaran.  as it is, nice na kaayo, tigs, nga niboto na kag tinarong nga pito ug wa gyod makalimti ang ppur.

ako?  wa pa ko mahuman ug pili sa pito.  i'm torn between choosing what i believe are the deserving seven and choosing the least likely to win just so the ppur could be favored more (i.e. it seems to me that galapagos is a sure winner, and it's going to be the amazon in south america instead of the black forest in germany.  aw, ako ra man ning banabana, mao nga ambot lang kaha.)

galisod pa ko; mora man pod hinoon nig nag-require ug voting with one's conscience, hehe.  pero sige na kog kompanya diri.

unfortunately, sir fd, voting is now limited to the 28 finalists, and our own chocolate hills are not on this list.  just vote for puerto princesa underground river (PPUR) if you may; you would still be casting your vote for the philippines anyway.

pareha ra man tingali nig election nato; di nato usikan atong boto sa dili kandidato.  lalim bag moboto ta ni jane censoria cajes pagka-presidente nga wa man tawon siya molansar.

tingali tungod kay maestra ang akong mama mao nga wa ko kasuway anang imong naagian, raqz.  wa pod hinoon ko kahibawo kun angay ba kong malipay o dili.  kini man gong atong past experiences, they bring their joy on hindsight.  it is memories that give us second chances at happiness.  i imagine that you were smiling as you wrote and shared your experiences with teachers in your youth.

anyways, sa pagkakaron, kun ako gyod hinoon ang inahan aning bataa nga nagisi ang ulo, giyera-patani akong himoon (gawas lang tingalig iabot kog kalooy sa maestra whose profession and lifeblood are at stake).  ikiha gyod nakog left and right.  schooling for a six-year-old should be fun.  what memory will the little boy have that would be worth smiling about when it's the wound on his head that's smiling?  he may even choose to stop schooling all together.  what a potential lifetime damage.  from a teacher at that!

Philippine underground river up for new 7 wonders

The promotion of the Puerto Princesa Underground River, or PPUR, in Puerto Princesa, Palawan in the Philippines as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature (N7WN) is now under way.

The 8.2 kilometer long PPUR was formed some 30 million years ago and now stands as the lone finalist from the Philippines for the N7WN.  It is considered as the longest underground river in the world, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1999 and declared as a National Geographic Monument in December 2003.

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III had earlier signed Presidential Proclamation No. 182 declaring a national and international promotion campaign for the inclusion of the unique underground river in the N7WN being conducted by a Swiss-based, government-controlled foundation.

The presidential proclamation is an offshoot of the fact that from an initial list of 400 locations around the world, the PPUR made it to the top 14 of the 28 finalists as selected by a panel of international experts from a total list of 77 contenders in the first round of global voting from 2007 to 2010.  PPUR’s inclusion in the final list has now made it a popular tourist destination.

As the voting is on a global scale with some one billion expected to vote, the Philippines is thus enjoining Filipinos everywhere to vote as a matter of patriotism.

Filipinos and other interested parties are enjoined to vote through the internet, SMS, or the telephone.

The middle-finger gesture, which has apparently had phallic connotations in every culture in which it has been used, is much older.  We know it dates back to ancient Greece, at least, where it was referenced in "The Clouds," a play written by Aristophanes in 423 B.C.  It was also well known to the Romans, who referred to it variously as digitus infamis ("infamous finger") and digitus impudicus ("indecent finger").  In all likelihood its origins were prehistoric.

this must be a political dynasty of daughter (mayor), father (vice-mayor), and son (councilor); so far, the daughter punches, the father and son flash the dirty finger, and the father can shoot.  they're all very expressive.

could the vice-mayor have shot the sheriff if the sheriff punched his daughter back, in self-defense?
