Roles

There are three primary roles in an Acro-yoga practice: base, flyer, and spotter.

Base - this is the individual who has the most points of contact with the ground. Often this person is lying on the ground with the entire back torso in full contact. This enables both the arms and legs to be "bone-stacked" for maximum stability and support of the Flyer. Main points of contact with the flyer are the feet (generally placed on the Flyer's hips or belly) and the hands (which either form handholds or grasp the shoulders). The Base represents stability and grounding.

Flyer - this is the individual who is elevated off the ground by the Base. The Flyer can move into a series of dynamic positions, and generally lets gravity do the work for them. A Flyer needs balance, confidence, and core strength. The Flyer represents freedom and dynamic balance.

Spotter - this is the individual who has an objective view of the partners, and whose entire focus is on making sure that the Flyer lands safely in case of any slips. The spotter can also make recommendations to the Base and Flyer to improve their form. The spotter represents safety and guidance.

Sports and Fitness / Acroyoga, anyone?
August 04, 2012, 08:14:48 PM
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Acroyoga is a physical practice which blends elements of yoga, acrobatics, and healing arts. These three ancient practices form the foundation of a practice that cultivates trust, connection and playfulness between partners.

There are two schools of Acroyoga. Acroyoga Montreal, led by Jessie Goldberg and Eugene Poku, has used the term since 2001 brings together acrobatics, yoga and dance/performance. Acroyoga Inc., which began in California with Jason Nemer and Jenny Klein and was labelled as acroyoga in 2006. The latter practices brings together acrobatics, yoga and Thai massage. Both schools offer teaching certifications, and despite some differences have many similar poses.

Atretochoana eiselti, a very rare snake, was found during an examination of a hydroelectric dam on a river in the Amazon. It’s an eyeless blind snake more closely related to the salamander that lives at the bottom of the Madeira River in Brazil’s northern state of Rondonia. -- http://www.barnorama.com/

Ryan Batman,

Di gyud ikahibung nga ingon niana ang inyong kinabuhi tungod kay nanggamit man sab mo og laing tawo aron mo mabuhi. Sorry to say this pero isip tigtambag, apil sa akong papel ang pagpahigmata sab sa gustong magpatambag aron makakita sa wa makita. Sama nianang inyong gibuhat sa foreigner nga inyong gihimong gatasan. Di man gyud maayo nang inyong gibuhat sa foreigner.

Kini man gung gibuhat nato maora ni siya og echo, unsay atoang gibuhat mobalik ra sab nato. Kon unsay gitanom, maoy anihon.

Unsa man ang akong buhaton?

Philippine Daily News / 'Lolong belongs to us'
August 02, 2012, 11:27:53 PM
By Ben Serrano The Philippine Star Updated August 02, 2012 12:00 AM

BUNAWAN, Agusan del Sur, Philippines â€" The chairman of Barangay Nueva Era here insisted yesterday that “Lolong,” the world’s largest crocodile in captivity, belongs to the people of Agusan del Sur.

Barangay captain Teopanes Adlawan, who led his constituents in helping crocodile experts capture the 20.3-foot saltwater crocodile, vowed to oppose any move to transfer Lolong from a one-hectare pen in Agusan del Sur to the 22.7-hectare Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City.

“We will surely oppose any plan to transfer Lolong. The crocodile belongs to Agusan del Sur, not Metro Manila,” Adlawan told The STAR.

Reports earlier said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was studying to move Lolong to the Quezon City park.

Bunawan Mayor Edwin Elorde said that if not for the help of the residents of Barangay Nueva Era, Lolong would not have been captured.

“As far as we are concerned, the plan to transfer Lolong to Manila is a dead issue to us,” Elorde said.

Elorde and Adlawan said although they know that the DENR has the best intention for Lolong, it is doing well under their care.

The municipal government has built a P100,000 comfort room from gate proceeds at the Bunawan Eco-Park.

Adlawan also strongly rejected the proposal of animal rights groups to free Lolong back to the wild.

“It is a dangerous proposal, they are endangering not only our livestock but also people’s lives” he added.

He said Lolong was captured in Agusan Marsh in September last year after residents believed that the reptile was responsible for a young girl’s death and the disappearance of a fisherman in Bunawan village.

Meanwhile, Elorde said the lives of the residents are again in danger following sightings of a nuisance crocodile in the area.

“There is another one (crocodile) out there that we are looking for. I fear for the safety of the residents,” said Elorde during his visit to the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) office in Quezon City recently.

He added that Lolong’s companion was lingering in Barangay Nueva Era.

Agusan villagers believe that Lolong has a bigger companion in Agusan Marsh and probably a female crocodile.

Adlawan asked the PAWB to allow them to start searching for the nuisance crocodile in their village.

Mundita Lim, director of PAWB, said an independent study would be conducted to verify the report. â€" With Rhodina Villanueva

Hopia Baboy
by Marketman

How’s this for a blast from the past? As a child, I LOVED hopia with munggo or mung bean filling. I don’t recall ube hopias in the late 60′s and early 70′s. I suppose for a kid, the sweetish buttery munggo filling was as good as a protein rich beans were going to get. Fresh hopia purchased on occasional Sunday “paseos” to Binondo with our family were definitely a treat. As much as I loved munggo hopia, I absolutely despised hopia baboy. There was just something about this savory concoction that was a real turn-off. And now that I think about it some more, I think it was a particular Sunday, when in my single digits, I tried this version of hopia, and I got what felt like the most repulsive chunky piece of mushy slow-cooked fat in one of my bites. Without asking anyone, I just assumed it was solid fat, and I decided then and there that I would never again ate a hopia baboy… But here’s the real rub, it turns out that there isn’t much baboy in hopia baboy at all! It seems many recipes call for kundol or wintermelon cubes slow cooked in pork fat or lard. Or in the absence of kundol, sliced onions are sometimes used as an alternative. Now that I know that, maybe that silly piece of fat was in fact a very mushy piece of lard infused kundol!

Since that time, Jonestown and its leader Jim Jones have entered American discourse as code for the dangers of cults and cult leaders. The expression “drinking the Kool-Aid”â€"which means both blindly jumping on the bandwagon, and being a team playerâ€"is one manifestation of this. The story of Jonestown, and of its parent organization Peoples Temple, however, is more complicated than sound-bites comparing strict parents to Jim Jones, or pundits relating religious violence (such as the suicide air strikes of 11 September 2001) to Jonestown. Instead, Jonestown serves as a lesson in how a combination of media, government, and citizens can create a climate of persecution and fear. It also provides an example of how uncritical acceptance of the status quo and social and geographic isolation can lead to violence and even death.

Bonus. Jonestown

On 18 November 1978, more than 900 people died in the largest mass murder/suicide in American history. Most of the deaths occurred in a jungle encampment in Guyana, South America, where members of a group called Peoples Temple lived in a utopian community and agricultural project known as Jonestown. Most died after drinking a fruit punch laced with cyanide and tranquilizers, although some may have been injected; two residents died of gunshot wounds. Earlier that day a few other residents of the group had assassinated a U.S. congressman along with three members of the media and a departing Jonestown resident. And in Guyana’s capital city of Georgetown, yet another member of the group killed her three children and then herself after receiving word of the deaths in Jonestown. In all, 918 Americans lost their lives that day.

In 1993, Chung Hwa Pak released the book Roku Maria no Higeki (Tragedy of the Six Marys) through the Koyu Publishing Co. of Japan. The book contained allegations that Moon conducted sex rituals amongst six married female disciples (“The Six Marys”) who were to have prepared the way for the virgin who would marry Moon and become the True Mother. Chung Hwa Pak had left the movement when the book was published and later withdrew the book from print when he rejoined the Unification Church. Before his death Chung Hwa Pak published a second book, The Apostate, and recanted all allegations made in Roku Maria no Higeki.
